go to class and u will be fine
Tests are ok but he doesnt curve at all 89.8 will give u a B+

He's ok. He talks way too much for a Tuesday and Thursday class. His tests are hard.
Awesome teacher. would definitely take him again. Take notes in class, pay attention , you will do fine!
notes are essential, you must take the energy to stay awake and then you'll get a good grade
He's confusing, talks too much, too much notes, hard tests, it's nap time for half of the students.
Had him last semster and this semester if you go to class you will do good
HIS TESTS ARE HARD..HES REALLY CONFUSING...I DIDNT REALLY LIKE HIS TEACHING STYLE..HE RAMBLES AND RAMBLES...I HAD HIM TR CLASSES AND I FELL ASLEEP.
HE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD AT ST JOHNS. AS LONG AS YOU GO TO CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO WELL ON HIS TESTS.
If you do not mind taking a lot of notes then take his class. The tests are straight from the notes. It is in my opinion very self explanatory. Occasionally you will fall asleep.
He is a good professor. IF you just read his handouts and the books, you will do fine. His tests are not so hard. You could get away with not paying attention in class. If you like to write, then this is a good professor for you.
i had him for 1000c and 3000c (metapysics) which was one of the better decisions of my college career. He is clear and striaght to the point and if u put in the effort, it will show in the tests. A very nice man and a pleasure to be one of his students.
HE IS A VERY INTERESTING TEACHER. THE CLASS IS AN EASY A. NOT THAT MUCH WORK. ALOT OF READING, BUT IF U TAKE GOOD NOTES YOU DONT HAVE TO BUY THE BOOKS OR READ THEM IF U BUY THEM. THE CLASS HOWEVER IS VERY INTERESTING. GREAT GUY :)
cool professor, jokes are corny but he gets his point made. I liked him so much for 1000c I will have him for metaphysics in the spring.
he is the best teacher!!!! u can get an easy A. he is the best!! he is soo good that i am going to take all of my philo. with him. just do ur work and ur good. take him!! do urself that favor.

he is soooo boring you cant even try to listen and understand what he is trying to say
The reason why he lets you use notes on the exam because his questions are so HARD! You'll think you know your material but when it's test time your eyes bulge out of your face! Yeah, I wouldn't recommend him
pretty clear abt wat he wants...tests are not that hard if u read the text...
If you have no choice and you MUST take this class, then I wish you the best. DO NOT TAKE!
NO WAY!!
His test are hard! Reading material is difficult, end up with a bad final grade.
Dr. Henry... Is the nicest professor at SJU. This is my 4th philosophy with him, if u do the work, you can get A to a B in his class. If u need help, go SEE HIM!!
Test are hard and they are open book,so you can imagine how hard he is.I would stay away from him b/c he will hurt your grade in the end.He also makes you do 5 papers, and makes you read a ton of stuff.STAY AWAY FROM HIM !!!!!!!!
Very nice and smart man. Definitely passionate about philosophy - if you really want to learn something, take him. Course is a bit challenging, but worth it. Tests are hard. Oh yea ... there's lots of take home essays and essays questions on tests.
HE GIVES A LOT OF READINGS AND HIS TESTS ARE OPEN BOOK AND ARE HARD EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE OPEN BOOK. HE'S VERY BORING. AND SEEMS TO PLAY FAVORITES.
Personally did not understand a word that came out of his mouth. Seems to love Philosophy ALOT. Makes funny jokes once in a while. It may not be the most exciting class, but with Dr. Henry you'll survive.
His class is mostly boring. It's an easy class if you do the work. This class is a lot of reading but he emails you notes on most of the reading. He's an easy grader. U have 4 test and 4 papers and a final. U can do all5 papers and he'll pick the 4 with highest grades. Not hard to understand if u pa
he is o.k. class can be somewhat boring, but he is a good teacher. The tests are not bad and if you read the books you walk out of there with an A. He does offer help if you need it. He's not that bad.
i love Dr. Henry. he is the best teacher at sju. the class is really easy as long as you pay attention to the lectures and readings. 4 books, 3 tests (mostly mc, t/f, essay). i didnt study for his tests but i manage to get an A-. if i can i would take him again next term but icant sinc dropped math.
Very nice man. Knows his stuff. Lectures are a little boring but if you pay attention you dont have to do the readings. Tests are not hard, a little challenging though.
Very dry with his stuff. Has a PHD in his field so expect total professionalism. But overall the guy won't kill you. If you don't like philosophy in general then stay away. But expect to go through the stuff quickly.
WHAT is it about this man that doesnt make philosophy seem boring? its the first phi class i didnt feel sleepy in - take him if you can ! Three cheers for the pre-Socratics
He is a good teacher, he knows his stuff and he is very helpful the class is pretty interesting there is just a lot of reading but its not bad. He is a pretty good teacher.
This guy is the most boring unfair teacher I have ever taken. So much reading and tests are impossible. Do whatever it takes to stay away from this teacher. The worst teacher I have ever had
he knows everything about what he is teaching. i haven't read any of the books yet, and i manage to do well. as long as you pay attention in class and take notes, the tests aren't that bad. he doesn't have any surprise questions on something he didn't mention in class. he's also witty =)
This is my first philosophy class and I loved it. Dr. Henry actually made me become interested in philosophy. He's an excellent prof and he explains the reading very well. He does give quite a few tests and quizes but if you take great notes and pay attention, you'll definately do well.
HARD and BORING! His tests really are difficult. What he teaches you in class and what is on the test are two completely different things. Dry and boring and strict. It's alot of reading. You do learn but his tests are seriously too hard with too much material. Be prepared to watch your GPA drop!!!!
is not looking to help the students

I graduated from St. John's about 4 years ago, and although I am not in enrolled currently, I like to stress that Dr. Henry's classes were fascinating. His superb teaching style kept me almost at the edge of my desk, making you want to write almost every word he said. Dr. Henry was definetly one of my favorite professors at St. John's.
Dr. Henry makes this most boring of subjects interesting. If you take a good notes, and study hard for the test, this class is an easy A. He's very clear, and also subtly humorous in the lectures. Goes over the readings in detail. A must take.
Very boring professor. He makes you write 8 papers total, 1-2 pgs long, about every week. Tests are ok but you must study. He also takes attendance.
If you thrive off in class teaching and less on self learning this is a good class to take. Explains hard subjects clearly.
this class is impossible to even pass, puls he dose not give you one hw assignment or paper to help you out its stright tests.. and he takes attendance but it can only hurt your grade
LOVE him. Great Professor...take the class!!!
i dislike this guy,he is obsessed with socrates, he is ridiculously boring and tests are tremendously hard. If u want to fail take him or be ready to see your GPA drop.
He's a great teacher compared to all the other teachers.Sure there are a lot of books, but then he explains each reading right after you're "supposed" to read it.He makes philosophy easy and understandable, you just have to be willing to work. Do 5 papers out of 8, lots of choices. Also has dry humour, which isn't always bad.
Don't listen to ANY of the negative reviews, because you have to be a dumbass not to do well in this class. Do well on 5/8 papers. Study the notes and the reading and WRITE notes as he speaks. Yes DRY HUMOR and sometimes boring, but DRINK COFFEE and trust me you will learn so much more. Not an easy A but if you're a good writer it will be.
Oh My GOD!!!! Save yourself the pain and dont take this class!!!!!!!!!I am studying for this final as we speak and oh ny gosh am I going crazy... A lot of books, a lot of reading and extremely boring....tries to make jokes but it aint working for him.Just safe yourself the pain, agony and money and dont take him!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly, I think he is one of the best professors I've had this year. I actually gained so much from this course. He is a very helpful, fair and nice professor. His exams are usually very easy and he grades them leniently.
i wish his lectures were less biased but he's much better than my other professors in his level of competency and you will actually learn something. 5/8 papers, 2 test & a final - he tells u what's on the test NOT impossible to get an A
Dr. Henry is an amazing teacher.I sat all the way in the back and I was suprised at how interested I was in this class. You will definitely learn here. He grades on how well you can write about the material. If you want to learn--he teaches so well. Worth every penny. One of the best at SJU.
if you do the reading and take notes in class, you'll do fine on the midterm and final. you have to do 5/8 papers which r not bad and you can e-mail the paper to him....i think he's a nice guy but i was certainly not tat interested in his class cuz there was not one class tat i did not fall asleep in, but i still managed to do good in his class
terrible class. he is soo hard... U stand no chance of passing because he give no papers, or HW, or class participation points. just 3 tests all very hard.
he is such a nice man, but the class reallllly bored me and i was ALWAYS dozing off. although there's alot to read, i never read a word of it until one or two days before the test and i did ok. definitely take him!!!
sooo impossibly hard...... no paper or chances to do well just 3 really hard tests do not take him
Don't bother purchasing the texts because he is going to give you everything you need to know in class. Go, try not to doze off (he's monotone), take some notes, do 5 out of 8 papers, study some, and you will pass.
One of the smartest men in SJU. Clearly explains difficult issues. But he doesn't seem to understand opposing views actually help clarify the problems better. Don't expect Cappell show, his boring tone will undoubtly work as sleep pills and do expect to get sniffed when you dare to stand up against his opinions. Too dogmatic and self-absorbed.
guy is the worst teacher i have ever had.. will fail you without and problem
Dr. Henry is a very hard prof. and is ridicolous to pass unless ur a phil freak. alot of work to be done. 5 out of 8 papers 3 test
I extremely hate philo. he was alot better than my last teacher. You do 5/8 papers which arent that hard at all. His tests are a bit tricky. He has a soft voice so it's easy to fall asleep but hes a good guy. He does most of the talking which is good especially if you didnt read what he assigned. Just listen and study. You will do fine.
He is boring!!!!!...you can pass if you really study alot!!!...His class sucks! get a different professor if you want a good grade with no stress!
Great professor, really know his stuff and you will come out of his class with lots of knowledge if you paid attention. He's a little boring, but he's very interesting. He's extremely friendly but makes you really work for your grade. He's definitely not an easy A, you have to work your butt off for an A but it's totally worth it!!!! Trust me.
NOT INTERESTING! HORABLE! IF YOU WANT TO GET A BAD GRADE TAKE HIM. GOOD LUCK TRYING TO TAKE NOTES...HE'S A MOTOR MOUTH AND JUST DOESN'T SHUT UP!
He gives you the notes online, you print them out and take them with you to the test, which he approves of. Then you just answer the questions. Be sure to read it ahead of time to give yourself a basic understanding. You don't need to even read the books. He talks the whole class, so coffee would be smart. The essays aren't that hard either.
Had professor Henry as a freshman. He is charismatic and helpful in tons of way. Go to class, listen to him and you will do find on his tests. Take notes during lecture and your essays would be a breeze.
His class isn't as boring or as hard as a lot of people think. There are three papers, which are pretty easy, and three tests which are open book. His class is kind of boring if Philosophy isn't your thing. He was very flexible with letting me make up missed work and a test. If you can stay awake this class isn't bad.
BOOOOOOOORRRRRRIIIINNNNGGGGG!!
he's not that bad if you listen to him take notes read the online notes and do well on the papers. sometimes he can be boring but if you study you should do ok in the class. if you don't understand ask him...he seems willing to help students do well
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Talks for 2 hours straight even though everyone is asleep or on laptops. Emails you notes and recaps of everything he says and those are usually clearer. 3 open book/note test. And you can use his notes on the test, so basically your taking the test with his word for word lesson in front of you. must do 2 of 3 2-5pg papers
Professor Henry is an excellent professor. his tests are simple if you read all his handouts and just skim through the book you will get an A. the people who said that he is a bad professor don't belong in college.
He requires you to write a couple of papers and do one presentation which are pretty simple. He is a nice man...however is class is kind of boring! Just do your work..his exams plus the final are open book! Easy A if you decide to do your part!
Dr. Henry is one of the best professors in this school. Do everything he asks for. His assignments and tests are easy, if you put the effort into them. Also, there is one presentation (easy). The first test and the final were both divided into an open book in class section and a take home section. Second test one was a take home. I got an A ^__^
Also, to add to the last comment, he gives 3 2-page papers which are straightforward, you only have to do 2 of them (just answer everything he asks for). There is also a longer paper (5-7 pages), which is easy if you answer everything he asks for fully. Good luck. I highly recommend him. He's a great lecturer.
three open book essay exams including the final and one presentation. he is a decent professor. the class usually does not pay attention to him or try to get into the subject, so they just simply put him off as "boring." easy A with a bit of effort, but won't be if you don't take the class seriously. go to class and actually listen to the guy!
prof. henry emphasizes original texts by working through the main metaphysical texts with class, which i believe is great.since he wants to cover a lot of material, he goes at a rather fast pace at lecturing as well as at assigning readings.dwells on aristotle and aquinas for too long for my taste.yet, educational class and excellent prof.
not one of my favorites. but hes okay. boring voice. i had to take him by force freshman year. study for his tests. read the books. fairly straightfoward
Prof. Henry knows his stuff, and teaches it well. He answers all questions (and thus can never catch up to the syllabus), is very helpful and grades absolutely fair, if not forgiving. He's generally very empathetic and does not seem to mind people sleeping in the front row. Very educational, great class for self-disciplined and interested students.
decent prof.,i took him in my freshman year and he had been very helpful. he knows his stuff, sends you notes on lectures which clarify everything, read these and you dont need the textbook. 3 open book tests and 3 papers (which he gives you 5 options), pretty straightforward. if you put in just a little effort, you should do fine
I'm in his medieval phil class right now. Great lecturer and very intelligent/knowledgeable man. Very, very fair grader. Take good notes during the lectures and put them in your papers. Take him if you get the chance.
very fair grader on tests and papers as long as you put some effort in can't get lower than a B
Just took him for medieval phil...a great professor. He's very understanding and can be lenient. His voice is very soothing (he reads to you in class) but moves a bit fast so try to take good notes. He's VERY knowledgeable so you will learn a lot. I would definitely recommend him-excellent professor.
LOVED HIM! he really tries to get everyone involved but no one really answers or pays attention; makes you feel bad. other than that 5 2-4 pg papers and 2 tests and final. very nice man too, he moved a test for us because we had a chem test that day too, most professors wouldnt do that
really nice guy. has a droll (sorry only word that comes to mind) sense of humor thats easy to miss if you're not playing attention. TAKE NOTES!! very rarely read the textbook but did good by just writing down his comments on the articles. on the essays take a stance and argue it using logic. you should do fine.
Dr. Henry is very wise and intelligent. Don't take notes because that will distract you from what he is saying. He will help you out.
He is very kind and very understanding. 4-6 short papers 3 tests. I got an A. It is not the easiest class but, you do learn a lot about whats going on today. A must take
Really chill dude. Takes the best 4 out of six essays. You can fall sleep in every class if you wanted. Very interesting material, he has all of his notes online. Must take.
LOVE him! Dr. Henry is extremely kind and understanding. He answers your emails immediately and is a good grader on papers. Exams aren't bad and neither are papers. You could fall asleep and he won't judge you. He's so chill. Wouldn't recommend anyone else!
This was an online class only had to answer 2 questions a week on that weeks reading which r fairly short 6-8 pgs long only one group project, 2 exams very straight forward just do the work on time and will definetely get an A interesting material he knows his stuff, always responds quickly, highly recommended best online teacher i've taken so far
One of the best Professors in the university! I took the online course and he was very helpful, and on time with the discussions. Just stay focused and on track-read the assigned pages, and its an easy A class.
His vocie is monotonous. Dr Henry read 3 or 4 articles each time. I cannot really learn something from his lecture. He is a fair teacher. Two tests are takehome tests. you must write 3 of 5 papers.I recommend you to take his online courses, but do not take his lecture course. His lectures are boring and make me sleepy.
Dr. Henry is the most considerate professor at St. John's since he: provides outlines for the in class tests, counts the best 3 out of 5 essays and counts the final as only 20% of your final grade. Attendence is mandantory.Yes, class was at 7:30 in the morning but his lectures provoke thought and I found class interestering.Overall- a must take.
I took his online class. He is the kindest, most considerate professor there is. He takes special care of you and he is extremely fair. The work is fairly simple. TAKE HIM!
Not the easiest of professors but will help you if you ask for it. He is a really nice guy who truly cares about the subject. Take him if you can afford a B in his class. 3 papers out of 4 count and weekly work. 2 assignments per week which take around 40 mins to complete
We need professor like Dr. Henry, he is great, his class is a load of work, that is not difficult to do, and he is there to help you, he is very human. If you want to learn take him, he is good professor!
I'm an average AA- student. And although I got an A- in his class, I was not satisfied because he's a harsh grader and I worked very very very hard in his class, I took a lot of time to prepare for his papers yet I felt as if he didn't give me the grade I deserve, NOT AN EASY A.
I absolutely hated him. It felt like he targeted me personally on a few instances. 5 kids talked during the whole year and its so boring and not easy. If you can switch out DO IT NOW. Worst class ive ever taken
If you pay attention during class, you don't need to really read anything and he also has notes online. Every test was an open book test and it is not that difficult. He wants a lot from the papers and grades it pretty harshly, never got higher than an A- , but wasn't too bad. He tries his best to sum up the readings in a interesting manner.
Take him!!! Yes his lectures are long but they are interesting. He lets you use your notes on tests and on the final! Also you only have to do three of the four papers he assigns! You should go to every class and raise your hand every now and then to answer his questions because they count for 5 points which brought me from an A- to an A.
This class was a lot more work than I was expecting for an online class. There are discussion questions every week, 3 short papers (lowest grade gets dropped) and 1 long paper as well as a group project. There are also additional discussions if you are a pharmacy student. He can be a tough grader.
IGNORE ANY MEAN COMMENTS. Dr. Henry is an amazing professor. Though his lectures are long (and sometimes boring), he is the nicest guy. He loves philosophy, and he is so clear. His tests are open note, his papers are easy if you actually put effort in, and he cares about his students. TAKE HIM! Come to class or you won't know what's going on.
Be ready to study
Extensive reading
It's frustrating at times because it seems like a lot of reading but he gives you at least a week to do the work. The grading wasn't bad, he's pretty good. I never felt pressured to say a certain thing about anything, no matter how controversial. I got an A and I don't think I put more than an hour or two most weeks. I would recommend taking him.
Dr. Henry is an outstanding professor. He teaches you how to think and create logical and proper arguments. It's a lot of work but if you get into it, the class is very rewarding and you learn a lot of valuable knowledge. Will recommend to all. Fantastic class.
3 mandatory papers 2-3 pages. 2 take home tests. 1 final exam in class which is probably the toughest part. Dr Henry has a clear grading criteria and is very helpful and understanding. I would recommend him and certainly would take him again.
this class was honestly harder than chem to me. The lectures are long and boring, it is very difficult to stay engaged. Dr Henry helps you edit your papers via email which is nice. The tests are open book, but difficult. He is a harsh grader. I would not recommend this professor and I would not take him again.
You definitely have to work for your grades in this class. I didn't read assigned readings because he reiterates everything in detail during his lectures, so make sure to take good notes since the exams are open book. His lectures can be boring, but I personally enjoyed the class overall.
Honestly this class becomes a competition of who falls asleep quicker. It's an all-out snoozefest competition between the students, professor, and the lights snoozing due to the inactivity in the room because every is comatose. Good luck taking notes in a notebook! It will be covered in drool. Getting a drool protector for your laptop.
Honestly, the most stressful class I ever took lol. You REALLY have to work for your grade. He is a meticulous grader, so reread your work to make sure they're actually answering the prompt. Even now, I vividly remember the nights I spent pulling out my hair trying to complete his assignments. I guess it was worth it since I managed to get an A.
This class was the most stressful class I've ever taken. Not only is this man monotone, he talks so softly that it's impossible to hear him say anything. Requires a lot of reading from the students. He's a super tough grader on essays, and his exams are difficult. Spends most of the class time reading from a book instead of discussing it. AVOID him
I won't front, there was a quite a workload. However, he was a great lecturer and cared deeply for his students. He was always willing to help students become better writers. If you work hard, it will definitely reflect. If you want to actually learn metaphysics TAKE HIM. If you want to just mess around then do not take this class.
Definitely have to work for your grade, but it isn't so bad. You can email him for feedback before officially submitting an essay. Three essays and open book exams. Just be there and take decent notes and you really can't go wrong.
Dr Henry is a really great teacher. She is very passionate about what she teaches. Her passion can sometimes come off harsh, but passion is what makes a great teacher. Talk to her if you need help, just don't wait until the last week of school, she will not help you then. She makes you think and challenges ideas!
I thought Henry was a pretty good teacher. All exams are open-book so just make sure you outline your notes really well before the exams. Going to class is useless because he reads from the textbook and his grading can get tough with the papers. But overall, if you do the work, the class isn't hard at all.
Dr. Henry is nice and knows a lot about ancient philosophy. His lectures can get really boring though. Papers are a lot of work and you have to be concise. Tests are all take home and a lot of writing as well. Overall nice teacher but a lot of reading and work. Take only if you really love philosophy.
Dr. Henry is the worst professor I've taken so far in my studies at St. John's. I would dread going to his class every day because it was always the same; a lecture from start to finish with bare minimal human interaction with his students. Whenever we would answer his rhetorical godforsaken questions, he would tear us apart and leave nothing left.
Lectures will be boring, but he knows his stuff. Don't be tricked by the open book exams, you'll spend so much time going through your notes trying to find something that he never talked about in class. Grades very tough, thought the class would be an easy A because it's an introductory Philosophy but I thought wrong. Nice enough guy
The most boring class I have ever taken in my life. Great guy but he just talks straight through for 1.5 hrs. Otherwise, 4 papers, only need to hand in 3. A couple online quizzes. Two major tests and final, all open book. Never paid attention in class but read & annotated the notes he posts online and used those for the exams, always got over a 95.
4 Papers, Drops one, open note exams (3 Exams) (Midterm, 2nd Test is Take home, final), no quizzes, GO TO OFFICE HOURS, he will boost your grades, he is the most caring professor I have ever had, doesn't take attendance, you can literally never go to class and get an A, just hand in your papers and take home exams.
Very boring class and I could barely hear what he says. 4 papers but you only have to do 3. Open book midterm and final. He grades kinda hard. You don't have to read because he goes over the reading in depth in class. My least favorite class from freshman year.
Great guy, I don't understand why his rating is so low. There's a lot of papers, go to office hours, that shows care and effort. Turned my paper from a B- to an A-. Ask him a lot of questions, correct your papers and base it off what he wants, and you'll get what you want. Tests: 3 (Open Notes (2) + 1 take home) Papers: 4, 1 gets dropped
This class is very boring. He literally summarizes articles and what other philosophers believe about an issue. He is a tough grader and his papers require A LOT of reading and research. If you don't like writing, don't take his class. His class is not bad but if you have other class options, don't choose this one bc this one can get overwhelming.
Hands down the hardest class I have taken at St. John's. Henry is not ready to play with any of ya'll so get ready to work. He's genuinely interested in the topics he teaches, but it's a terrible delivery. Hard to stay awake. Prepare to read. Prepare to write. You will learn a thing or two. If you don't put in the work, don't expect to do well.
Dr. henry is honestly a great teacher. Im surprised he doesnt have a 4 or better. He gives INSANELY detailed reviews for tests, telling you exactly what you need to study. He also is very caring, and drops things like quiz avergaes if they would hurt you, but adds it if it helps. Hes very passionate about the subject, and is very knowledgeable.
Absolutely terrible. Final """exam""" had mulitiple sections specifically requiring 750-1000 word answers! Sad!
Dr. Henry is not a bad teacher, if you get him youll probably be okay. If you really want to pass I suggest sitting towards the front as you can barely hear him half the time, and the lectures are usually boring. Theres not much point in reading the textbook as he recites it in detail in class.
Great teacher. Syllabus says you need the textbook, but you don't. Just show up to class and pay attention in class. Read the files on the content page and you'll get an A.
I didn't enjoy this class at all. really boring lectures and it was hard to pay attention. 3 Tests that are all short answer/essay questions. take someone else if you can.
Very respected, but his tests were solely based on whether you knew the material or not. You can always find a way to BS through philosophy, but there's only so much you can BS. The final was open book which was great, but somehow I still didn't do very well. Knows a lot about philosophy and loves the subject, but personally I found it difficult.
Very interesting Medical Ethics topics of which I didn't know most of them until this class. Dr. Henry made it convenient for us to express our opinions on the topics through his tests and papers. He also gives interesting comments and feedback on papers. I personally enjoyed this class, though you have to read a lot, study and work hard to pass.
Dr. Henry is a very good professor who has a great knowledge of philosophy. The class however is difficult. It requires a lot of studying and thought. There are some online quizzes, papers, and exams. The final was open book.
ABSOLUTELY the worst professor that I have ever had at St. John's. He makes no attempt to engage students throughout the class, and his lectures are long and boring. He is a highly intelligent man who should only be teaching upper level graduate courses. Impossible Quizzes, terribly useless, and will hurt your GPA. THANKS FOR NOTHING DR. HENRY!!!
He is just awful. The worst grader i have ever encountered. Two exams that are 50% of your grade which he grades tough on. Just a terrible professor overall. Avoid at all costs.
Dr. Henry does not do a good job explaining the material. All he does is post them online. You have to read a lot for this class and there is a long quiz every other week
You are on you own with this professor. He does not do any sort of teaching at ALL. Not one lecture upload, not a powerpoint, not any helpful material. Just a bunch of extremely long and heavy readings for quizzes and test. He emails once every two weeks to remind us due dates. You will spend way more hours for this class than others. Avoid him.
Lecture heavy, but corresponding notes that summarize the topics are posted for students to review. Very nice and extremely knowledgable. A few papers, quizzes, and tests, so the workload is a little heavy. You have to pay attention and take notes to do well, but he does a really good job at being thorough.
He will talk for every minute during your class, from start to finish. If you're not interested in philosophy, you will definitely be bored. Doesn't grade harsh though, just if you can support your argument well. You don't need to read the lecture material because he just goes over it in class and it's word for word what he uploads online.
Worst Professor I have ever encountered at St. Johns. The reading for his class will be more than all your other classes combined. Spent hours upon hours doing the readings for his class for each homework (and theres a lot of them). If you wanna work ur butt off with no reward then take this class.
Rough. Lectures were so boring and information was covered so fast. 3 tests and 4 writing assignments. writing assignments were easy but the tests were very difficult. if you love lectures where the professor does not acknowledge you, his class is perfect.
took Henry asynch, not really a lecture given but rather a slew of reading+discussion posts due. LOTS of reading, I put in more work for this class than some of my other classes and his grading rubric is unclear to everyone. No one gets 10/10 on his discussion posts but rather bizzare numbers like 9.1 or 9.2. 4 essays, lots of research
He never gives 100s so your grade will easily end up as an A-. He only gives 100s to people who agree with his beliefs and doesn't give any extra credit. he gives four short papers and one long paper and a bunch of discussion posts but is never satisfied even though he never teaches anything.
Dr. Henry was not the worst professor, but the class was hard. He assigned online quizzes and the second test was online and open-book. That being said, it is very difficult to find the answers and his in-person tests were a lot of writing. He is very sweet and did offer a retake for one of the tests, and he also posts all the notes.
Never read textbook, I stopped reading mid-semester. Only attend each lecture and write a transcript of what he says in class. He summarizes don't waste time reading. 2 two online pop quizzes. One test was closed book, midterm and final are open notes. He grades exams/quizzes thoroughly. 5 papers assigned,4 papers required. Easy grader on papers.
Make sure you attend all of the lectures. You don't need to do the readings. Just take notes when he talks in class. 4/5 but he would've been a 5/5 professor if he had ppt slides or something to follow in class. Papers and exams/quizzes are graded somewhat arbitrarily but you don't get a grade less than 85 as long as you submitted something.
the class is an easy pass if you truly apply yourself, attend every class, read the modules, and take notes on everything he says in his lectures. he truly is a sweet man, maybe PowerPoint presentations would help a lot of people follow along, but I didn't have an issue with the old school chalkboard.
be honest were only taking this class cus we have to. if u want an easy pass, dont take this class. its asynchronous but he gives so much work every week, 3 papers, several discussion posts, quizzes every week (they should be called tests instead), 2 exams and a final. its incredibly time consuming and unnecessary for a gen-ed class
He's not a bad guy, he's caring enough and lenient enough if you reach out. It's just so work-heavy for an online course, it takes up so much time that I would have spent on major-related courses. It's not an easy A for sure, and probably not worth it unless you have an interest in philosophy/humanities. He doesn't give 100s but mostly 90s so good.
If you're a STEM major, do yourself a favor and don't take this class because you will be spending LOTS of time here (THIS IS ONLINE). You will be doing constant work without clear grading criteria. Sometimes he puts comments on your work, and sometimes he doesn't. He's passionate, but you WILL do constant readings.
The lectures can be dry, but if you attend class, take notes, and use resources like Unstuck ai, you'll do well. Tests are challenging, but the open-book final is a saving grace. Overall, an engaging class if you put in the work.
