grades fair, gives you opportunity to edit papers he already graded and corrected to turn in for a higher grade. only 3 or 4 pop quizzes. he loves what he is doing and wants to help you succeed. overall good and helpful teacher, i would definitely recommend him!
Prof Hickman was one of the best professors I've had for Gen Eds, hes really understanding and tries to help. Had a couple pop quizzes, essays regularly (which he helps you with), and no final. If you do all the readings and visit his office hours, no doubt you'll do well. My writing definitely improved because of him.
Hickman is a great teacher. He's always there to help, we have in class discussions, and homework is short readings and a few papers. Despite the relatively easy work load, you still get a lot out of his class. I was terrible at writing until now.
Professor Hickman really cares about his students and he is a really nice teacher - he talks with you not at you. We do a lot of readings with discussions the next day. There are never quizzes on them so you can get by not reading. You do just a couple papers that he lets you revise afterwards to boost up your grade. Easy A.
Amazing Professor! You have readings that you discuss the next class. Very simple even if you didn't read. Loves participation. He let's you revise your papers too and is super approachable. Best Prof I've had by far and has a good sense of humor. Writing skills have definitely improved and the writing assignments are straight forward and fun.
LOVED HIM! He cares about his students so much. Every class is beneficial and helps with writing your papers. He is very funny and keeps you entertained. I am not a fan of English in general, yet I never missed a class. I am a much better writer now thanks to him. TAKE HIM!! you will not regret it!!
Amazing professor! He is super helpful and kind. He cares a lot about his students, and as long as you put in effort he won't let you do badly in his class. Take him! This is by far one of the best Gen Ed classes I've taken thanks to him.
Mr. Hickman is great. I actually enjoyed going to class. The only downside to having him as a professor is that he is a hard grader. I consider writing to be my best subject, but I received an 89 on every paper I wrote for his class. Just make sure you read & participate to ensure an A!
I was not a good writer before taking this class but Professor Hickman was an amazing teacher. He makes class so interesting. There are short readings before each class that are discussed during class and maybe like 2 quizzes the whole semester. There are 4 main projects that aren't hard, they just take time and effort and Hickman is very helpful!
BEST TEACHER EVER. He is very helpful and positive. He works to make your writing better and tries to keep it interesting. If you get the chance, he is the teacher you want! His grading is not easy but he is very fair and wants you to succeed. He lets you do rewrites on some papers which really help your grade. TAKE HIM.
One of my favorite professors. He's young and tries to keep the class interesting. He has readings almost every day but they're usually interesting. He genuinely wants your writing to improve and even lets you revise your essays after he grades them to get all point possible back. Definitely take him if you can!
He is a really great teacher. He loves helping his students in every aspect of life, not just english. He is pretty difficult if you're not an english student like me but he loves helping his students progress in their work.
Greatest teacher ever! Super chill, super nice, never puts anyone down. Anything you say, he links back to the lesson so you NEVER feel stupid for talking. Didn't even buy the text book, did fine. Funny and a hipster. TAKE THIS TEACHER!
Favorite prof this semester! so helpful & encouraging. 4 papers,no tests. have to read one book and there's an easy quiz on it. Readings each class but aren't difficult, lot of them 1-3 pages. Discussion each class, speak up! may give quizzes if no one is talking, but u can say basically anything. Best class!! and helps you become a better writer
Great professor. Lets you rewrite most of your paper which got me from a B to an A. There is a short reading you have to do before for every class which shouldn't take you much longer that 30 minutes. Part of the grade is class participation and he really cares about class discussion. Will always help you with your writing. I Would recommend him.
If you have to take GWRTC I really recommend him! His class isn't difficult at all! There are readings "due" each class but all you do is talk about them in class. Only 4 writing assignments which if you get a bad grade on them, he lets you completely revise it and hand it in 2 weeks later for a totally new grade! I highly recommend him!
Prof. Hickman is a good writing teacher. Lots of papers and you will get better at writing. He allows corrections and you are almost guaranteed a B. Short readings before class that you don't even really have to do.
I throughly enjoyed Mr. Hickman's class. I would've personally had a higher grade if circumstances hadn't arose during the semester, but I did reasonably well considering my absences. He is extremely helpful and allows revisions.Highly recommend this professor.Just put in the effort and time. You'll get the grade you deserve.
Professor Hickman was very interesting and an overall good guy. He has your best interest in mind and allows revisions on top of offering clear and concise advice for how to improve your writing/paper. He is also understanding and allows you to hand in some things a day or two late if necessary. Great guy, great teacher, definitely take him
Professor Hickman is a great professor for a freshman gwrtc class. 4 papers throughout the class and he helps you so much with structure and how to write it. Class is a bit dull just because of the material being covered but he loves when you participate. Definitely take him if you're overwhelmed with all the choices.
Professor Hickman is an awesome professor. I was dreading taking a literature course, but I am so glad I got to take it with him. Discussion is a huge portion, but if you engage you get a lot back. Lots of reading, but that's the game for a literature class I'm afraid. He will make you think, and make you enjoying it. He's also kind and funny!
He is a very nice and understanding professor. There are 4 main papers you write, and several smaller homework assignments. He is a very fair grader and allows revisions on most of the main papers. He responds to emails promptly, which is a major plus.
I highly recommend taking Professor Hickman. His ghum 200 class is a great alternative to the traditional english class. Lots of reading of course because its the lit cluster. He makes the readings interesting by applying them to real life and it makes you think. Class is discussion format and attendance not mandatory but pop quizzes are frequent
Hickman is a GREAT prof. He helps you through all your papers and is SO helpful in office hours. He is understanding. He loves when the class participates. The readings are SUPER easy and usually short, so just do them. Attendance is mandatory, but you can skip up to 3 classes with no penalty. There are 4 papers that get bigger each time. Recommend
He improved my writing so much! I loved this class! Sometimes the class itself would get kind of boring, but he did a great job of letting the students know exactly what he expected from them, which made all of the essays a breeze. Essays are fun and creative and you get a chance to rewrite them.
Professor Hickman is one of my favorite teachers this semester. He clearly outlines how to write the papers he assigns, & goes over how to do them often before it's actually due. His lectures are very interesting & he always gives people the benefit of the doubt. Be prepared to work hard on your papers, though. He likes to see effortparticipation.
Overall I thought Professor Hickman was very helpful! I would ask him for him and he was always willing to. He wasn't very boring and tried to make the class fun. He does take attendance. He likes when people participate and answer when there are discussions. I would definitely pick him again for GWRTC103.
Professor Hickman was great! He is very helpful and will answer any questions you have. He answers emails promptly. No tests at all. Just 4 essays. First two are pretty easy, last two are a little tougher and involve some research. Homework is just a bunch of short readings which you don't even have to do because of in-class discussions
Hickman is by the far the man for this writing course. Regardless of interest in writing and literature, he will make you a master. He revolutionized my writing as a whole. He is always in communication and will go out of his way to help you. His emails are novels with help, and his feedback on papers are usually longer then the paper itself. TAKE!
Hickman is awesome! 4 papers, no tests. Everything is super clear and he is SO helpful! Class is actually interesting this was definitely my favorite class this semester
He's awesome. So nice and always willing to help. He answers his emails within hours and is so welcoming at office hours. As long as you put in the work, getting an A is definitely doable.
This class was very enjoyable. Reading assignments assigned for almost every class, but always interesting & never too long. Participation mattes & allowed 3 absences. 4 essays that count for a large portion of your grade, but he gives you a substantial amount of time for each and is extremely helpful. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! I got an A in this class.
Professor Hickman really was a great professor. I truly enjoyed his class and looked forward to going. There were 4 essays, and before each of them were due, I would send them to him and he would edit them for me so I could fix my mistakes before I turned it in. It made me learn a lot more about my writing. Great guy too.
Hickman seems like a cool guy at first but he is the toughest grader I've ever had at JMU. The amount of readings and papers he assigns is ridiculous for a gen ed. I would not have taken him if I knew this. It was a very frustrating class because the material is easy but he goes out of his way to stress you out.
Four papers but multiple reader responses. He grades harshly and nit picks at a lot of stuff in your papers. Very hard to get consistent As on assignments. But he's always willing to help. Participation really matters in this class, so speak up and answer questions. Definitely use writing center for papers for him, it will help you so much.
Really enjoyed this professor but not the class itself. It involved a lot of work and a lot of reading, which was really hard to make time for. He gives pop quizzes pretty frequently. Assigned papers for the midterms and the final (he's a really hard grader when it comes to writing but gives good feedback). Okay class but wouldn't take again.
The class was okay. Hickman himself is an amazing professor and he really cares about the class, and gives you a lot of opportunities. You can resubmit 3/4 of the essays you do and the quizzes are really fair and all, but the class is a bit boring, but then at the same time most english classes are. He'll help edit your papers and I recommend him.
I liked Professor Hickman overall, he grades a bit hard but allows students to revise and resubmit 3 of the 4 big projects, which was very helpful. His feedback is helpful and he is always willing to work with students. The lectures were a bit boring but that wasn't a big deal. I would recommend for the most part
Hickman is the man, it says it in his name. The only people that failed his class are the ones that don't go. He gives you plenty of time for each reading and writing assignment. Gives quizzes if you are not there. Willing to help students when in need. Down to Earth. Lectures were kind of boring and so were the books. But if you try you like them
Very nice and helpful. You have 4 big papers, but no tests! You having readings to prepare for next class. They are doable, and they're very interesting. I didn't participate, but you should because it'll help your grade in the long run! His feedback on your paper helps with the revisions. Great professor.
Professor Hickman is a great guy I'd definitely take his class again. He assigns more readings and tougher assignments than most other WRTC professors, but you learn a lot in the smoothest way possible. If you arent the best reader or writer going into college, you need to take him. Legitimately helpful and smart man. Not the easiest A though
Attendance isn't mandatory, but he gets you with pop quizzes and attendance quizzes. He's very passionate about his books but if you don't have the same passion then the class can be boring. I recommend doing the short readings at least and participate. It will make it more interesting for you. Great guy
I LOVED HICKMAN! He was very helpful and loves when students are active in class discussions. There wasn't much work in class and homework was mostly short quick reads that would be talked about the following class. You're allowed to make revisions on the 4 projects that pretty much make up your grade and he takes the newer grade as final.
He's a great professor. He's young and went to JMU and cares about his students a ton. He wants everyone to do well. Discussion-based class, so talk once in a while. Do the readings. Five pop quizzes throughout the semester. Midterm and final are essays, small group project, short group presentation. Really not bad. Would recommend.
I absolutely love Hickman. He was always available to help his students. If you don't get an A in his class it's simply because you didn't try. He lets you redo every paper you turn in for a chance to get ANY points back that you missed. There are usually short passages for homework but nothing unbearable. Would 100% recommend Hickman
The majority of your grade is made up of 4 projects that he lets you revise for full credit. For projects 2 and 4 he cancels a week of classes each to have individual conferences with all students, during which he gives great feedback and will even write your outline. Overall, he's a great prof with an interesting class, you should 100% take him.
This guy is awesome. Whether you like writing or not, he makes the class interesting. Beware his quizzes on the grading rubric for essays as he usually doesn't remind you that you will be quizzed on them. He gives great feedback and I genuinely believe I have become a better writer because of him. Take his class! You won't regret it!
He's such a great guy! There is a lot of writing involved, go figure but it is all very doable. Throughout the semester there are 2 conferences and he helps you with anything related to the projects. It is an easy A, if you do the assignments. He allows corrections for your projects, so take advantage of that! Lots of small, and easy grades.
Definitely take him for gen ed WRTC (last paper is the final itself which you have over a month to do.) Four writing projects total, four writing responses (these are tough. 15 points only but require a ton of work). Professor Hickman is very apporachable. Go to office hrs! Look out He plays Friday song at the end of the week. Haha. Great guy!
Class overview: -we discuss readings assigned for homework in class -lots of support for essays (office hours, peer review, in-class workshops) -Textbook readings help. (I bought mine actually) -Prof Hickman is very approachable in/for office hours. -I've changed from being scared to write to being WAY more confident. -Allows revisions for projects
Took WRTC103 as a GenEd but actually ended up really enjoying it. Professor Hickman makes an effort to teach how to be a better student and person in general. Allowed for a lot of discussion, so his lectures were never boring. Participate when given the chance! He's a fairly tough grader but he gives good feedback and lets you revise.
Heres the problem, he teaches this class on a discussion base then grades the papers like you are his grad students. In class you literally just talk about current events but he assigns several very long books that aren't even talked about very in depth. He treats this gen ed like your most important class, would not recommend.
Michael Hickman made me a better writer. There are four papers throughout the semester. For the first two, he allows you to rewrite it for a better grade. There are no tests and no final exam for this class, only a final paper. He provides good feedback and is accessible outside of class. Only homework assignments are four reading responses.
I love Professor Hickman! He really cares about his students and is very understanding. The class is a lot of writing (obviously) but you get a lot of choice in what you want to write about. His class made me a better writer. Classes are mostly discussion-based and you have to participate for points, but the discussions are easy to contribute to.
Professor Hickman is one of my favorite professors. He really wants you to be aware of things and wants you to think critically. He gives really good feedback on papers and is more than willing to help you if you ask. Make sure you actually read the assigned readings and LOOK ON THE SYLLABLUS, he doesn't announce them in class. He's a great prof.
Kind of a tough class for a GenEd. Grade is based mostly off pop quizzes, online discussions, and papers. There are no tests, but the papers are graded pretty hard so you'll need to put in a lot of effort to get an A. Classes can be hit or miss depending on class participation and are treated like a book club, but they can be interesting at times.
Hickman is a really sweet and cool guy. The discussions in class on the readings we did never seemed to make sense of the projects that were assigned for out of class which made me feel lost on where to begin. It also felt impossible to get an A or B on anything. My final paper for 25% of my grade was also never graded.
Hickman is an awesome professor! This was my second time taking him. Be prepared for a lot of reading and occasional pop quizzes. Class is discussion based and is super awkward when no one talks so do the readings and participate. Grades are based on 3 papers and online and in class discussions. Typical english gen ed. but is an interesting class!
This class is hard to get through. He talks about things that have no relation to the books whatsoever. Grades like youre a graduate student.
Class is too hard for a gen ed. Assignments are unclear and acts like this is the only class you take. Avoid if you can.
His expectations are high but he never says what those expectations are. The books are all depressing and class runs like a sad persons book club. Never stays on topic and refuses to get to the point to fill up time.
Hardest grader who thinks this class is the most important class of your life. Very bland with discussions that dont have nothing to do with the books he makes you read. Run and run fast.
I took this class with a different professor and just wanted to see what this topic would be like. Hickman is a really tough grader on most tests/papers. It was also difficult to follow along in class because most of it is him proposing questions, which at times is fun but can get pretty monotonous. Overall, wouldn't take this class again.
The best professor I've had at JMU thus far. He communicates well with you on each main assignment you do. It's only 3 and hard to get below a B on them. You do have other little assignments but they are easy 100s. The class was discussions about real-life topics we face in the real world and here at JMU. Amazing professor and Amazing Class!
Hickman is a really caring professor, but sometimes his material seems irrelevant to his projects. If the readings seem long, or if they do relate to what's happening in class READ THEM. Even if it seems dumb, skim and grab the main points because chances are there'll be a quiz.
Very caring and super nice professor. There is one main test and 2 papers - midterm and final. You read 4 books along with online reading. He is very easy to talk to and is an easy grader. He makes lectures fun and he is hilarious and always asks how you are doing. Class is not mandatory but you get 4 absences and he's pretty lenient about it
Prof Hickman is so nice. It's a discussion based course with lots of reading involved but he makes it super manageable. He is super helpful & is willing to answer questions at all times. I enjoyed going to his class. He's really personable which is refreshing and tries hard to help everyone understand. HE IS AMAZING. TAKE HIM
Prof Hickman is a great choice. All the readings are online and he always answers his emails quickly. There are only 3 main projects and the rest is discussion based/peer revision. He is kind of a tough grader on the main projects- which makes sense- but if you are a decent writer you can get a B. Also there is extra credit. Definitely take him!
Great professor! Is really understanding and wants to help you succeed in his class. He does discussion boards and tests that are basically just essays that you have roughly a week to do. You also might have some group work assignments and he gives extra credit for tests. He is easily accessible and a caring professor under these circumstances.
Professor Hickman is such a nice guy and he really cares about his students. You might be scared going into his class of all of the work assigned, but it's not bad at all once you get started and he does everything he can to make sure you succeed, which I think is one of the best qualities in a professor.
The BEST professor I have ever had at JMU. He is willing to help you with anything and provide guidance on anything. I once emailed him asking for guidance on my first paragraph of my essay and he edited it for me and sent me his revised version for me to copy and paste into my essay. Amazing professor and super nice guy. Not too much work at all.
He cares about his students a lot but he is sooo boring. He teaches topics that are difficult to understand and doesnt do the best job at explaining them. He randomly calls on people every class and there is a lot of writing assignments for discussion boards and tests. I would try to take someone else if you can.
Hes such a nice guy!! The lectures didnt give me much its mostly just homework but it isnt difficult until later in the semester when there are papers to write. I would recommend his course.
he gives so much homework that I'm gonna go cry after writing this
He's great. I am not so good at writing but because of the way that he teaches I understood what I was supposed to be doing and I did really well on all of the assignments. We started with one assignment and just built on top of it for the rest of the semester which I found really helpful for my learning.
hickman is one of the sweetest profs at jmu. there isnt much outside work at all aside from the big projects. go to class, meet with your group and you will be fine! the big assignments are a lot but he gives SO much time to complete them. 1000% would take him again for wrtc
I cannot say enough good things about professor Hickman. He makes this GenEd manageable and fun. He is very understanding of students schedules and tries his best to accommodate them. Very flexible, and leaves great critiques without being harsh. Overall 10/10 would take again. Favorite Professor at JMU!
I loved Dr. Hickman's class. He's very caring, funny, and definitely a young soul. His class was always easy to go to and he rarely lectured. Lots of in class activities with interesting prompts that made participation/learning easy and fun. Wrote a few papers and never had any exams. 100% take his class!!!
I took Hickman for a GenEd and I am doing worse in his class than my major courses. He is a cool guy, but his classes are so boring and I quite literally never know what's going on. He assigns so much reading material. If you do not like reading/ do not have time to read a TON for a GENED, do not take his class.
Hickman is a great professor, he is so caring! You are allowed 3 absences, and your grade is made up off of two papers and an annotated bibliography. Class is a little boring, but overall he is a great person.
As someone who hates writing, I was not excited to take WRTC103. Fortunately, Prof Hickman made the class really manageable. There's 3 main writing projects, which seem daunting at first, but they really aren't that bad. The readings are generally pretty short and he posts them all on canvas, so you don't have to pay for anything!
I loved Prof Hickman, overall a nice guy. Your grade was made up of 3 writing projects, a unit test, and a handful of smaller assignments. Attendance is not mandatory, but he REALLY appreciates it when you participate in class. Sometimes class is a little boring, but if you did the short readings on canvas it's super easy to answer his questions.
3 major papers that build off each other(not your standard 5-page essays, they are about a topic that you pick at the beginning of semester). Prof is very caring and wants you to succeed, does grade decently hard. I got a 0 on a paper for plagiarism but he offered me a second chance because it was an honest mistake. Highly recommend WRTC 103.
This class was pretty small but I liked this format because it was a lot less intimidating and it was easier to ask questions. There was a lot of collaborative classwork, meaning a lot of participation. He has a 24-hour flexible deadline policy but if you ask for an extension, he's willing to give it to you.
Prof Hickman is great! Each week he posts reading material that is discussed in class that week. A good amount, but not excessive. There are 3 writing assignments that build on one another and he gives good feedback and instructions and you have a while to do each of them. He is really caring I definitely recommend.
Prof Hickman was my fav professor at JMU so far. You have 3 major assignments, but he gives you a lot of time to complete them and is very flexible with handing things in late. Additionally, he is always available if you have questions and gives really good feedback. I usually don't like English classes, but I would def take this class again.
A very good professor for writing, really cares about the material and gives incredible feedback for the papers you write. The class basically has four big projects/papers/tests and then a final. There is reading, but really nobody does it, but it is definitely useful when you do.
Amazing guy! Not many assignments, but you have to work hard on them to get a good grade and have a while to work on them. Gives great feedback and is always there to help you succeed. Take his class!
I really like Professor Hickman, he did a good job at giving us plenty of time to complete his writing projects. You only have 3 projects during the semester. He is very caring and will answer your questions. Overall a very nice professor and one of my favorites so far.
Great class, you get to choose any topic and write about it for the whole semester, so it is actually enjoyable. Can be tough on grading sometimes but you learn a lot and become a better writer if you participate and do the work. He will revise your essays for you if you email him, super nice and down to earth. Very easygoing, extra credit too.
This professor rebooted my love for reading. He was super fun to listen to during lectures and made an effort to help us understand. He would assign us groups to work together on readings and questions outside of class.
One of my only professors I actually learned from this semester - he genuinely cares about his students learning to write well.
Professor Hickman is an amazing professor. He genuinely cares about his students and is very accessible outside of class. As long as you write the 3 main papers (which aren't that difficult) you will do fine. I can say with 100% confidence I took a lot out of taking his class! You will learn a lot, without having to stress.
The best most caring professor I've had. He is so sweet and truly cares about teaching and cares about success of his students. I have been going through a lot of personal issues and he was very lenient when it came to my late assignments. couldn't say a single bad thing about him. Amazing professor!
Professor Hickman is an amazing WRTC professor. He is so kind and caring and just wants the best for you. If you ask for help he will always respond fast. I would 10/10 recommend him!
Hickman is awesome! I really enjoyed it and got a lot out of the course. He wants the best for his students and is always happy to help. Graded on 3 papers which are not too bad (all on same topic that you pick), and then few other assignments. Gives great feedback! Attendance not mandatory, but he notices and appreciates if you go. Take him!!
Prof. Hickman is undoubtedly one of the best educators I've had. He is a phenomenal writer and really knows how to give great feedback! Readings are frequent but aren't too long and are mostly very interesting. Additionally, Prof. Hickman is very caring and happy to work through any issues that may arise. I highly recommend him!
I loved Professor Hickman so much! He is so kind and truthfully cares about his students success. He is really easy to talk to, so if you are struggling go to office hours and get help. There are a lot of readings but many are quick and most are quite interesting and helpful. There is one test, three projects, and one very quick, chill speech.
Professor Hickman is easily my favorite professor I have had at JMU. His ability to create a curriculum that accomplishes the goals of the course and is fun and engaging is amazing. Take advantage of office hours and do the readings. Everything in this course feels purposeful. Even though you still have to do work, you will actually learn so much!
Professor Hickman is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. He makes class fun and engaging, and the content is always very interesting. While there are some readings, they don't happen often and are usually interesting. Professor Hickman wants to see all his students succeed and has your best interests at heart. I highly recommend him!
Professor Hickman is so kind and caring towards his students. The feedback he gives is really helpful and he is very flexible with deadlines. He gave us a consistent workload but all of it was fairly easy. Absolutely take him if you can.
Dr. Hickman is a great professor and is so knowledgeable on the Harrisonburg community as he is a double Duke! I learned so much in his class about rhetorical reading and the class topic revolved around the upcoming of AI. Most classes have an assigned reading and there are 3 projects throughout the semester. He did not teach MLA or APA formatting.
The entire class was based on AI, and we did research and opinion projects based on a topic of our choice and AI's influence. Not much work total but required research. Do the quick readings and provide thoughts for discussion in class. He is a great professor who values your thoughts and opinions and provided many perspectives on AI and its future
Very easy professor! We had few "homework" assignments, class discussion based on the homework, and two big research papers, he gave a lot of time to do the papers and provided a lot of helpful feedback. The class was overall very easy and I would definitely recommend!
Professor Hickman is compassionate and very invested in teaching about nonprofits. We collaborated with Cat's Cradle and learned about a new nonprofit topic every week. Several small assignments and interview project to end semester. One partner presentation about a nonprofit of your choosing. Class always ended early, worthwhile class/elective.
Great professor! There was plenty of time to go over each paper with him and he's very accessible and nice. Make sure to annotate every reading given, he gives random annotation checks! He also cancels class the week of when papers are due so you have plenty of time to get stuff done for his class and other classes.
No textbook or exams, just one big semester-long project that you get full creative control over. He's super chill and offers good feedback, but the lecture itself is very skippable and doing the readings is borderline pointless. Lowkey I just do other homework during class.
Really good prof, class had no exams or quizzes, assigned readings each class that he will check randomly but if you don't do it you can just email it to him and still get full credit. Has one big assignment but meets with us and gives so much time to do it, easy A if you just do the work.
Professor Hickman is amazing and truly helps students benefit from this GenEd. Assignments are easy to do and interesting to students since he has us write about topics relating to ourselves. Attendance isn't mandatory but you are graded for participation.
Assignments are easy. Weekly readings for each class but nothing is too long or hard. Very flexible to help you, and very easy to find outside of class. No quizzes or exams to take either. 3 Big projects that are doable and he gives plenty of time to do so. No class during the week a project is due which was very nice. Overall an easy genEd
He structures the class through projects for each unit but provided us with a lot of time to do them in and out of class. He also provides feedback prior to submitting and is easy to access through emails or office hours. I highly recommend him if you are taking WRTC-103!
Professor Hickman is an engaging and knowledgeable instructor. His class focuses on AI and its impact, with projects that allow for personal research and discussion. The workload is manageable, and Unstuck AI proved to be a helpful study tool alongside the readings.
This class was truly one of my favorites because it was small and engaging with the other students. There is a lot of readings every class, but they are short and manageable. He gives optional one one-on-one meetings for projects, which is helpful. The class gives you a lot of helpful skills for everyday reading and writing.
He is a very clear professor with reasonable expectations. He gave us clear guidelines of what he was looking for and oftentimes we could get all of the work we needed to get done in class. The whole class is a group project with the same group, so choose your groupmates wisely.
3 total papers, but the last one is basically an easy A, not a terrible class for a gen ed, just a lot of writing because it is a writing class. He has the papers broken up with smaller deadlines, so by the time the whole thing is due, you basically already have it all done. Easy course, and he's nice.
Extremely caring. Very open ended essays that give you free will to write what you want.
Professor Hickman is incredibly kind and genuinely cares for all of his students. His classes can be a little bit boring at times, but if you do the assignments and participate a little bit you will easily pass. I would absolutely take this class again.
Super sweet!! Take him for the writing credit. He wants you to do the best you can in the course and is always open for office hours.
He is the kindest professor ever and truly cares. I wasn't a great writer but he makes things very easy to understand and most writing assignments you chose what to write. Attendance matters but he makes class interesting. Definitely take him if you have the chance to!!!
Really nice professor. If you have the chance to take his class, TAKE IT. The final is a project.
Dr. Hickman was a very nice professor that was always responsive in-person and online. The class wasn't that hard since we were mostly graded on a few projects and a quiz that did require some time but were pretty easy. The class was pretty boring but if you want a class that can boost your grade I highly suggest taking this class.
He is nice. He will help you. But going to class can be hard to sit through because it is extremely boring and he talks with a monotone yawn. Not very fun or funny but could try more to get us into it.
He was extremely rude in his teaching. There are other professors with more experience and more impressive degrees that are teaching this class better than he is teaching it.
