Hes bad at teaching and bad at making up exams!
Doesn't give "overall structure" to course. Simply presents topics with no introduction or explaining how it applies to the course "stream". Simply presents theories with unhelpful examples. Not very good at creating exams - questions are not weighted fairly, and questions outside the course scope are asked.
He's obviously a really intelligent guy but teaching is not his specialty. Our class average at the mid term was a 42! He's horribly confusing, and no matter how hard you study, you will NOt do well on the exam. It's as if he goes out of his way to confuse you. Smart guy, but he ruined economics for me.
Worst professor I have ever had in my life. He is not so willing to help students. The class average for this course is currently 45%, which is fail. 60 students dropped the course out of 140, and about 40 remaining students have F. I do not recommend taking his courses.
sincere
very good proff. Must attend class to do well
He is the worst INSTRUCTOR EVER! For some reason he believes it's alright for him to screw up with a class average in the 40's and a messed up marking scheme, but if you run into trouble do not expect any sympathy.
Was definitely the worst prof ever. I don't know what would have happened to the class if he did not have the power point slides from which he read. He barely explained the concepts. He knows his stuff but can't pass it on. The exam was set very hard and out of scope. Overall a bad experience.
He's the worst professor ever in the history of worst professors. Read from the textbook and learn how to solve questions from the TAs.
He is worst professor ever. I find useless to attend his class, better study at home.
He is good. Always gave the ot .no assignments.
Taught clearly. Reasonable yet easy midterm/final. Pretty good prof, pretty good/easy course.
easiest course ever. good teaching
either midterms or finals are all so hard
He is a horrible professor. He cannot teach and make the materials harder and confusing than it actually is. It is better to study on your own than to attend his lecture. He also has no sympathy for students and is not willing to help.
If you think this class is hard, then maybe you should switch to a college.
Worst professorteacher I''v ever had. It''s tough to follow along when he talks.
I wouldn't say the course itself is too difficult, but his lectures do not really help much. Luckily, you have a textbook - make the best use of it. You will understand better from the text than his lectures. From time to time, you will be frustrated with Sapling, since sometimes the new assignment just doesn't show up.
This guy explains basic economic concepts really well by using funny examples and applying them to real life situations. He has an accent, but I didn't find him hard to understand. You could get away with not reading the chapters, but definitely do the homework he assigns weekly. Pulls questions straight from it and puts it on his exams.
Face-paced. Boring! Sapling quizzes are frustrating.
Great course, you can pass well if you try. Pretty great prof, he wont baby you..
One of the best professor I've ever had. Behaves professionally, respects the planning, goes fast so you don't feel sleepy, times runs fast and you really have learned something. Gives good examples that truly helps in understand the logic. Treats you like a future professional. Writes faster than PowerPoint.
Not bad lecturer or teacher but he is very unapproachable and hard to get help from. He will often attack you personally for questions about material, does not stay on topic, and overall went out of his way to be rude to me every time I spoke with him.
If you have gone to class, did the online labs, done ur practice questions and mc from the study guide you will get a decent mark in the class! It really sucks that it is an evening lecture at 7pm just like micro.
This course is incredibly textbook heavy, if you simply attend lectures but ignore textbook readings you probably wont pass. Sapling is very straightforward, do the textbook readings and you'll pass them easily. The key to doing well in this class is doing the readings and finding youtube videos to explain concepts you don't understand well.
Unlike normal classes, his lecture is a week behind the quiz rather than a week after. Though this gives incentive to do the readings, it makes his lectures useless. The Sapling is necessarily expensive, and you have to do the readings (or teach yourself, which is what I did) to pass the quizes. Overally, poorly planned course :(
just pay attention to his lectures and its an easy 90. read the mcq in study guide and recommended solutions to get over 60 in the exam and if u did pay attention in class, u can get over 80 without even trying. a really good course to take if u wanna boost gpa
The lectures are pretty good and a large part (60%) of the exams consist of questions taken from the assigned problems/study guide and are quite straightforward. I started studying the day before the final and still got a mark over 95.
Prof. Ho sets his expectations clearly for this class. You need to be on top of readings before the class. He is concise with explanations, although he does move fast due to the amount of material he needs to cover. He adds in a bit of sarcastic humor in his lectures! He tells you exactly what's on the exam & TAs aren't too tough w marking.
Hands down the worst professor at UTSC. Not ready to help, makes fun of you if do actually ask for help, gives blunt responses in emails, sapling quizzes are ridiculous, moves too fast, takes any chance to reduce grades, never teaches what is in the textbook yet he expects you to know it all. Steer clear of this goofball
USELESS PROF, does not care about students and only does it for the sake of money. Wish he had different methods of teaching rather than just speaking for the entire lecture, would not reccomend
Energetic, clear, knowledgeable, funny. One of the best profs I have ever had.
Very bad professor ! Has a thick accent and goes extremely fast. Suppose to be the non mathematical approach but includes sooo many maths sums in his midterm. stay away at all costs !
I don't necessarily agree with his teaching style. It is a little old fashioned if you ask me. However he prepares you well for the midterm and final, as in everything he tells you to study will come up on the exams. He doesn't use the textbook in his lectures however a good 60% of the exam is textbook material based.
Does not care for his students or his materials and flits through the curriculum like a to-do list. Tests do not align with curriculum.
I went to him during office hours he was very cool prof as a helper but in class, he will take every chance to ridicule the students. Beware, this professor's grading for midterm and finals is very hard. Lastly, you won't pass by just going to class you have to do all the readings and this course is graded by few things which makes it worse.
You should attend his class as his midterm and final is heavily based off of his lecture discussion questions which are about 60% of the exam. Practice with the recommended questions that he provides at the end of lectures and do sapling, they are a mark booster.
He goes pretty fast because there's so much material and isn't the most caring/understanding. Your grade is only made up of the midterm and final, but if you study well for them, they're not too difficult.
I personally could not attend his lectures anymore because they made me more confused than ever, had to rely on the textbook to study. His accent his thick and the way that he teaches is so confusing doesn't take time to explain or make sure that it is understandable. He goes on with the material too fast.
The questions that were given for the final exam had nothing to do with the actual final. Almost like he wants his students to fail...
His lecs are mad boring. Consisted of a camera and him writing and drawing. He insults his students. Straight up told someone to read a dictionary when asked to clarify an econ term. Midterm was fine but the final was very hard. He's fast responding to emails however, very vague and dry. Pretty bad prof and should not take unless you need it.
CS student, meaning this was by the far the easiest course in my course load. Traditional/old-school professor but very solid teacher. Explanations are broken down into bits and examples are supplied. He's not too hard on classes. Midterm was basically the sample test (which was given to us during reading week). Pay attention during lectures!
The worst professor i've had at UTSC!!! Super inconsiderate. We had to beg him for an entire hour during the first class to record the lectures even though he knows we are still in a pandemic and we are all in different time zones. If you take this class takes very detailed notes or you are doomed. Because of him I despise thursdays.
We had to argue with him since he wont keep recorded lectures. Doesn't know how to teach, summarise or explain the concepts that makes it understandable. His accent is thick and hard to understand. He is condescending and gaslights students who questions him. Failed my midterm for a technical mistake on his end, for which I reported to faculty.
I actually liked this prof. He was very strict and set in his ways but still did a good job going over lecture content and made things very clear. His accent is still understandable so I dont see how this is an issue. Youll do good on the exams as long as you make thorough effort to understand his lectures and tutorials. Simple calculations only
Very disorganized: 1) No lecture recordings; presentations. 2) Writes down new equations not in the textbook. Bunch of variables without even explaining what they are. Had to check online AFTER the lecture. 3) Literally all materials are from Gazelle, and he refuses to explain or release the answers in Quercus.
Prof is not considerate of his students. Had to beg him for recordings amidst a pandemic & despite students being in diff timezones. Very old school - doesn't use digital slides & doesn't post his written slides. However, is good at teaching & uses good examples. Prac exam is identical to the final. Lots of formulas. Quizzes are easy. Took in 2021.
He is a very organized professor.
Professor Ho is really patient and helpful. He offered the past exam for us to prepare for the exam. If you understand the quizzes' questions, pay attention and take notes in every class, you can get a good grade. Yet it is indeed tiring to keep pace and take notes in class.
First, the final exam was 50%, the midterm 35% and the quizzes 15%. However, I am just gonna be fair. The midterm and final were decent and manageable IF you read the textbooks and attended lectures. There were no slides and notes posted on Quercus, and no video options, so you MUST attend lectures in person. Also, ask if you don't understand!!
Lectures are intense and you must pay attention the whole time otherwise you might not be able to get high marks in midterm or final. This professor is very strict but it's fair to everyone. As long as you read the textbook and attend all the classes, it's not hard to get a good grade.
Good luck
NO PPT, NO RECORDING. You have to write down all the notes that he writes. I can guarantee you that it was the worst lecture I've had. Avoid it if you can.
Does not post lecture notes or recordings, and he claims that he doesn't do that because students do better without them. The Midterm was very fair though. When asked to number his lecture notes in class, he said, I won't do that because people steal the notes. Be ready for mental torture as well because he presents his lecture in 3x speed.
Michael Ho is the absolute worst. He doesn't teach, just goes through the material at 2x speed. He doesn't provide any online resources except for the textbook and he is very unapproachable. He refuses to scan his class notes, which are also very messy and disorganized. Wouldn't recommend taking it unless u really have to or in 2nd year.
Probably the worst teacher I've had in my life
never again bro
This professor gives a vivid and comprehensive lecture. All the quizzes and exams are based on the things he taught. If u understand the lecture, u can get a good grade in this course.
There are no lecture slides. The materials addressed during the lectures are not recorded. Attendance is necessary if you want to do well. Positively, most of the questions on the midterm and final are posted ahead of time.
Really intense lecture teaching. Good for those who have the habit of reading the textbooks before lectures.
He is very passionate about economics and gives informational lectures. However you really have to pay attention to everything he says. because he talks very fast and uses paper and a projector to draw a bunch of diagrams. There are no slides posted. If you miss a lecture, it is hard for you to catch up. Had to take this course twice to pass.
His classes make me severely mad and depressed. He goes way too fast and does not care if all his students understand what he is saying. Not caring and wants to get the lecture over with as fast as possible. I wish he resigns because it makes learning extremely difficult...
He's very direct, attendance is mandatory because lec are not recorded. I recommend taking notes by hand because of the graphs. You will do well if you read the textbook before the lectures. The midterm was not hard if you study. If somethings unclear you can go up during the break or after class and ask for clarification. He explains topics well.
Micheal Ho refuses to record his notes or post any online because "its stealing" so be ready to write as much as you can in lecture. Try and be as detailed as possible for his "notes" themselves aren't high quality enough for studying and since it isn't his job to teach his class material I recommend studying the textbook practice problems.
He is good at teaching but he has no emotion (maybe).
I cant lie, i found prof ho to be a great prof. Idk why there is so much hate going his way. Yes his lecture are long but they are amazing. He is hilarious and actively tries to make lecture more entertaining for the students. He is very knowledgeable and explains concepts very well during lecture.
He refuses to record lectures and is notes for class is literally A4 paper and sharpies. So safe to say, you miss a lecture and you're done. Midterm and final are not that bad, but still not the best either. They take up all the grades, so if you do badly in one then you're done. Don't take unless you need to.
He can seem a little intense at first. His lectures are well rehearsed. If you read the textbook, attend lectures and do the problems, check the answers (this is a MUST) he posts and understand the graphs you will do decent in this course. This is NOT a class where you can attend lectures and call it a day. You need to engage with the material.
Don't understand the hate for him. He's firm, clear with his expectations for students and gives good lectures. You have to put in the effort to do well in this course, like reading the textbook, attending the lectures, taking notes and going through posted problems. He explains topics well and is available for questions during and after class.
Idk why people seem to hate him, he's a nice and funny prof. Lectures are supposedly 3 hours but actually only last 2 hours. Doesn't record lectures or post notes so you really have to go and take notes. Tests were mostly multiple choice, so really easy. Got a 95 on the final by cramming for a few hours. He posts practice tests which help a lot.
Too fast and doesn't take his time to thoroughly explain
If someone told me that every single one of Professor Ho's lectures I attended were just a sequence of the worst nightmares ever made to torture me, I'd believe it. He posts no notes online, talks so unnecessarily fast, and god forbid you miss a single class because all his notes are on paper. This class traumatized me,don't take unless you need it
the worst experience ive had is in his classes. very unapproachable and does not post any notes or slides. avoid taking his class unless you must
Does not post any notes, his handwriting is so shockingly bad, and talks very fast. Does not record lectures either, and then somehow get's angry if a student records the lectures. Do not recommend at all
If you think the other reviews are exaggerating they are not, he is very unapproachable and key topics he goes very fast. Nothing is recorded and half of the terms that are in the textbook are not even mentioned in his lecture forcing you go back and reread.
Never take his class unless it's necessary to. His lecture goes too fast so it's hard for you to understand . He never post his notes and lecture recordings. And he doesn't allow you to record his lectures. The exams is not hard at all but not easy. If you read the textbook, you can get like 50-65. If you didn't, then you will be so cooked.
This professor won't upload any materials. You have to go to the classroom to take notes. His teaching style is very Chinese. He directly explains the key points and lists the examination syllabus. Unlike other professors, he won't first tell you a story to introduce and then explain. If you want to get a high score and are suitable for the exam,
I had to take this class for my major. I would rather be in prison.
HELL NAH. Switch your major, idk, do anything BUT take this class and econ in general at UofT.
biexuan, zhong guo ren bu pian zhong guo ren
one of the most difficult times i've had at uoft so far. no joke.
Very awful experience, does not upload lectures neither any slides or additional notes for you to learn, everything is taught in class but the problem is his teaching is extremely difficult as he speeds up the content and doesn't allow students to ask questions briefly, he will instead tell you to book office hours and even with that it's useless.
I paid $700 and then some for that stupid achieve e-book to teach myself EVERYTHING because lectures were genuinely useless when it came to exams.
no no no no no no no no no just do not
