Great teacher; made my decision as a business major
Excellent teacher--very demanding, as the group paper for his perspectives class was always dreaded by the students when I was there--but he's more than willing to give you all the help you need, as long as you're willing to do your part. Good prof.
As a prof, he's good, but I wouldn't recommend the business tide. Its far too much work (a paper a week, a chapter a week, comments every week) for one credit. There are perks like free food though.
Excellent professor! Demanding but you'll actually learn the material.
very good teacher, very demanding but i learned a lot. he was very helpful and still keeps in touch 2 years later. i def. recommend the business tides with him, it was a great experience.
Best teacher
Good Teacher, you must do the readings or he will embarass your ass
Great Prof - had for both BLaw and INT law - he was hard in BLaw, the exam is the closest thing to a law school exam you'll see in undergrad, but he was a BLAST in Int Law - Ask about Beer Thurs at the Boot - any class over pitches is Fabulous - great guy to joke around with too
I am in love with Professor Hogg. He is the most amazing professor ever and really cares about his students. And he's hot
His class inspired me to go to law school. Now, 3 years later as I enter yet another round of exams, I'm cursing him in the back of my head! Despite earlier comments, his exams are NOTHING like law school exams. Much easier and he's a much, much easier grader! Sweet guy who gave us coffe mugs because "you'll need them to study for my final!"
He will bail you out of jail if you get arrested.
I don't know if I consider him hot, probably because I am a guy, but Professor Hogg is a great teacher. There is a reason why he makes the BSM Teacher Honor Roll virtually every year. He is a great teacher, he is an even better person, and from what I have read, he'll bail you out of jail! What more could you want?
nothing more needs to be said about Prof. Hogg. He's the man. pizza and pitcher days at the boot were great too. hard tests but worth it to learn from him. he inspired me to go to law school and i recommend him to everyone.
GREAT PROFESSOR! EASILY BEST TIDES TEACHER!!! REALLY CARES ABOUT STUDENTS!! WHEN I GOT A BAD GRADE ON A TEST IN ANOTHER CLASS IN ANOTHER DEPARTMENT HE HELPED ME FIX AND PLAN MY SCHEDULE! TAKE HIM WITHOUT A DOUBT!
Insurance and blaw. great teacher. learn a lot from the class. attendance mandatory; reading mandatory... but not burdensome. tests are straight forward but you must study.
Professor Hogg is an excellent teacher. He makes his class very interesting. Tests are straight forward but you need to study. There are three group papers that aren't too bad. You have short handout readings for most classes, nothing horrible. I highly suggest taking his class!!!
Hard class for a TIDES class. He is a great teacher and makes you think. Only take his TIDES section if you are 100% sure you want to do business at Tulane.
Funny, interesting, helpful, great weekend lunches, good dude!!
Fantastic teacher. Really funny and makes class really interesting. It was honestly enjoyable to go to that class. Material isn't necessarily common sense but is easy to comprehend, you just have to read over your notes. Also, tests are fairly hard, make sure you study a lot and know the material backwards-and-forwards
Hilarious, utterly professional professor. Flawless lectures and a very amiable personality, he is apt to pull stunts like shredding his own tie during a lecture on liability. Really keeps you on your toes with prodding questions. Be prepared to work really hard for exams and papers.
Excellent teacher, and great lectures but demanding. You must study. He is always willing to answer questions outside of class. He also wrote my law school rec. and called the school on my behalf. He really cares about his students.
I agree with the other comments. He made it fun to go to class, with superb lectures. He sets high standards and expectations, but always willing to help. You must study for exams and be prepared in class. All in all a great class and awsome teacher.
Incredible teacher and mentor. He is always willing sacrifice time to help his students/any Tulane student. His class is exciting and clear. The tests are difficult, but he will help as much as he can. I wish he taught all of my classes.
Had him for Tides, had him for Legal Studies, desperately wish I could have him for B Law. BEST. PROFESSOR. EVER. Not to mention my roommate (who's taking his lgst now) and I agree that he's super hot. Makes class more fun on dry lecture days. TAKE HIM.
He is a great teacher, but he really cares about students learning the material in a practical way. I would take him if you get the chance.
He never tests outside his lectures. So read the sections in the text that correspond to the topics he spoke about in class. His tests are straightforward if you pay attention in class. Some scenarios and cases he mentions in class show up as questions on tests. High quality class and a high quality teacher. A must take!
Great teacher and really nice person. He cares about his students. I learned more in this class then in my other classes. He is very animated in class and keeps the lectures interesting. A must take if you can.
Great professor and kind man. If you have the chance, take him --best class I had at Tulane because I actually learned a great deal.
Incredible teacher and excellent class, but be prepared to work.
Best teacher that i've had the pleasure of having in the business school. Class is very interesting and he makes sure everyone is involved. You get out of it what you put in. Extremely fair. Great class.
much more difficult then made out to be... very confusing and his tests are much more difficult than other professors who offer the same courses. i would not take his course again.
Excellent teacher and class. He makes you think.
Lectures well organized with chapter outlines and PowerPoint slides. A terrific class and professor --an absolutely amazing experience. Take him!!!!
Great teacher, tests are very difficult. 3 papers are very time-demanding.
Hogg is a great guy and a good teacher, but makes his class unnecessarily tough. tests are all in essay format and he'll rip most things you say to shreds granted he is a lawyer. you will learn above and beyond what other sections of lgst 301 have covered. interesting class, but not worth the dent in your gpa. take others
Great teacher. I found the class pretty reasonable. All the LGST sections have the same requirements 3 papers and 3 tests. He made the class fun and I learned a ton about business and the law. He also made me a better and clearer writer. He is the kind of Prof. that always makes time to help you. I would take him if you have the chance.
Definitely not a typical easy TIDES class. You have to write multiple 6-10 page group papers and do a presentation, but very good prep for business school. Cares about students and food every class.
He's a really great and clear teacher. You must participate and know the material but he is very laid back and chill if he knows you. Tests are hard but the studying reinforces the material and makes you learn it
I love him. He is very enthusiastic and generous teacher. His lecture is so related to real life. He brings examples to demonstrate the legal terms all the time. His test uses name of people in the class and it is hillarious. I was laughing (not out loud, of course) during the test. But beware, it's legal study. So he's tough, too.
Michael Hogg is the best professor, mentor, and dean on campus. He changed my life this semester, and met with me throughout the semester to make sure everything was alright. He is the most inspiring and optimistic person I know, and there is no better person to take a Tulane course with then him. He is not just a professor, but a true role model.
Amazing teacher, amazing at explaining things, amazing at getting your attention, amazing at using examples of every-day life to correlate with laws. Must pay attention, and must study every single day because this is a memorization class, and unless you have photographic memory, it will be impossible to remember everything the days before exams.
Here's the deal - there is not a better professor, person, dean at Tulane. You're at Tulane to learn, and that is exactly what you do in his classes. I have chosen to take him for a second semester in a row for business law after taking legal studies. He is the reason I made legal studies my second major. Don't miss the chance to take his class.
He's very to the point and focused on the material. He's also available for office hours. Class periods are entertaining and info-packed, so you have to be there every time. It' s not an easy class, but you learn a ton. Take him if you can.
Easily the best professor I've had at Tulane so far. He's super enthusiastic and gives interesting and informative lectures. His tests are essay tests, but they only cover stuff that he went over in the lectures. He makes you work for your grade, but you will learn a lot from this man guaranteed. I highly recommend this professor!
Dean Hogg is by far one of my favorite professors at Tulane. He is seriously one of the teachers who actually wants you to learn something from his class but doesn't give long boring lectures. He is constantly making jokes related to legal studies in class through examples involving students. My favorite professor on campus.
Dean Hogg is literally the best man I've probably ever met. He works so hard to be accessible and helpful to his students. The work load is average with regular online homework and 3 papers in the semester. No. 1 tip is to print the power-points and take notes on them because he goes through pretty fast and likes to play funny videos.
The most amazing teacher ive had in my life. He makes you work hard, but also actually want to work hard. The feedback is amazing, and you can see the effort he puts into all the exam memos. You will also learn a lot and enjoy his classes. Simply amazing, education would be different if all teachers were like him!
Incredible prof!!! To do well you need to work quite hard as there are tons of assignments and the tests are very in-depth but you won't regret taking his class.
It's unnecessary for him to make the class so challenging. It's just 3010 and not everyone in the class will take legal studies major. GRADE MATTERS FOR US.
He give great lectures and always is willing to help.
Great lecturer and cares about students.
Dean Hogg is the best teacher I have had at Tulane. He is the reason I added legal studies as my second major. He is clear about what it on tests, and gives UNREAL feedback to your test answers. The pictures of students on tests also provided some comic relief because his tests are HARD and require a lot of writing. This isnt an easy A BUT WORTH IT
He is an incredible professor. He realizes not everyone in the room wants to study legal studies but is so passionate about the subject that you can't help but love the class. He gives you his phone number, posts old tests, holds review sessions, and tries to be as accessible as he can. He will call on you randomly during class, so be prepared.
Favorite professor at Tulane! Would take his class 100 times. So knowledgeable and somehow makes legal studies hilarious and relatable. Hogg is the man. Take this class and learn so much USEFUL life information.
Dean Hogg is Superman.
Worst class ever.
Good teacher. His lectures are interesting and keeps you engaged. He is very helpful and cares about his students.
He's not a very good teacher at all, he just makes the class super easy. He literally posts practice exams and the actual exams are just slight variations of those. If you memorize the practice exams word for word, the exams are super easy and you can do fine without even having to pay attention in class
Super professor.
Professor Hogg creates an inclusive and intellectually stimulating environment in his classes. For example, to prove a point on strict liability, he literally shredded a tie in a paper shredder. That experience is only one of the many fun, interesting lectures he has. He calls on people at random to answer, so staying focused is a must.
Horrible teacher, but the class is super easy so just study the textbook hard and you should be fine.
I'm not sure I've anyone at Tulane more helpful.
Hogg knows so much about legal studies and really explains the material well. His tests a little difficult because there is so much content covered but the questions themselves are not confusing. He is always available for extra help and his lectures are not boring.
Legal studies is one of the harder 3000-level business courses, so it will require a lot of work and studying no matter who you have. Hogg clearly cares about his students and presents information in interesting and engaging ways. He gives great feedback and always makes him accessible to his students. Definitely take Hogg if you can!
Michael Hogg is one of the most stellar professors in the teaching world. As an assistant dean and professor, Mike Hogg is a transformative and inspiring facilitator of information. Through multiple case papers, online activities, and an attitude to help students grow, I cannot recommend this man more highly.
Very nice person and really helped me with my job search
Hogg is the nicest, most accommodating, and most passionate professor I've ever had. He WILL come up to you in class and engage you if you don't participate enough yourself, and participation is a big part of your grade and his teaching style. The material itself is a LOT of tough concepts but he makes it easier to remember.
Hogg is one of the best professors I've ever had. He allows students to call him at any time (day or night) for help and gives pages of feedback for every exam. He truly cares for all his students and makes each class engaging and fun. The material is difficult but Hogg really wants everyone to succeed.
Prof. Hogg is the most professional professor I've seen in the Business School. His class is fun and he knows the laws thoroughly. Tests can be hard and he is a strict grader. Remember to read the textbook before coming to class.
Baller professor. Passionate and caring, one of my all time favorites. Only issue I had with the class is that he doesn't grade the 3 papers, a legal coach and grammar coach do that. My grammar coach was insane and graded like a lunatic. Legal coach was very chill and helpful.
Hogg is genuinely a great prof. Class is hard for sure, but he wants you to do well. He is accessible outside of class and gives extra credit opportunities all the time. Read the textbook and participate and he'll love you.
Truly the best professor I've ever had. Lectures were long but Hogg always kept things interesting. Cold calls and makes participation fun. Tests and materials are difficult but you will do well if you put the effort in. Read the textbook before class.
Professor Hogg is the best professor I've had at Tulane. The class is definitely a lot of work. You have to read multiple chapters per week and his exams are hard. He gives practice exams that mirror the actual test, so it is not that bad if you study. His lectures are super interesting. He gives feedback and is accessible outside of class.
Extremely good professor for a difficult class. Tests are very similar to past year exams (which he gives you), and they require A LOT of memorization. Gives extra credit pop quizzes that count towards your test grade, so memorize the court cases he tells you to know. He cold calls on people, but if you participate, you should be fine.
Hogg's LGST course was difficult. Be prepared to do a lot of work and a TON of memorizing for each test, which are really hard. But, if you study and practice the tests he gives you, you will be fine. Work with the TA's they were great. He gives a lot of pop quizzes which are awesome for extra credit on tests, but be prepared for class. COLD CALLS
Everyone should take a class with Hogg while they're at Tulane, he's tough, but he's super nice and has a lot of knowledge to share.
I thought studying law was building your argument based on small technical details, but now I just don't know. However, at least it's funny learning about law with Professor Hogg. Somewhat educational. I can't give him anything but the highest recommendations. I hated basic law class was required and I still do but it was a productive experience
Professor Hogg's legal studies class is difficult, and people complain about the workload a lot. That being said, he is the best professor I have ever had. He is willing to work with students to explain material outside of class, approachable and personable during lectures. if you learn through participation, you'll get a ton out of this class.
Best professor I ever had in Tulane. He knows everything so well. Very nice person and cares a lot about the students, he knows the name of everyone. You have to study a lot if you want to do well in this class.
he is very caring, but makes the content harder than it needs to be. the tests are very straightforward and you know most of the test content will be based on past exams so it is not bad, but it takes a lot of time to study for them
Makes the class way harder than it needs to be. Smug. Really should avoid his class.
The content is very difficult, but Hogg is the best professor. He does a great job at explaining concepts and is always available outside of class to help. Tests were difficult, but there are bonus point opportunities and past exams to study from. Definitely requires a lot of studying but he wants you to succeed.
Hogg is the best professor I've had at Tulane. I studied a few days before each exam and did very well on them. Hogg is also a super generous grader if you clearly make an effort on the exam. His lectures are engaging, but he loves to cold call. I learned so much in this class, but it was also by far my hardest. Definitely read the textbook!!
Hogg is my favorite professor I've had at Tulane so far. His class does require a lot of work, but the lectures are engaging. The exams are a good amount of writing by they aren't too bad if you have a general idea of what your doing (know cases). He gave us donuts one day, and paid a kid to yell "I love tulane." BEST PROF EVER
He's the best. Take this class.
The most caring and genuine professor I have had at Tulane, don't hesitate to take class. Class material is tough and you have to keep up. However, you learn a lot. He's a pro and you want to pay attention in his class. GOAT.
This class is typically an intensive class for students but Hogg makes it manageable. He is super accessible by email or for meeting. He is extremely knowledgable, provides lots of sessions to study with him and constantly gives out extra credit. His tests are also very fair. If you don't take Hogg you are making a huge mistake.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! so kind, caring, and helpful! I would take him again any day. he is so selfless and makes the class worth it to students. Take him for any class you can! He is amazing!
Best professor ever. Cares about his students a lot and definitely places huge emphasis on lectures/participation (so definitely go to class). He will help you out so much if you respect him/his time and participate. TAKE PROF. HOGG
he cold calls in class which is kind of annoying, but all of his pop quizzes are for extra credit on the exams and the homework are super straight forward. highly recommend
Literally my favorite professor at Tulane. He is the best and cares so much about his students. He is super engaging and funny. Take any class with him. 10/10
I LOVE HOGG. Nothing else, I just love him. Take a class with him if you can!!!!!
Hogg is the best professor at Tulane. His lectures are amazing, I became a legal studies minor because of this class. But be prepared to get cold-called on in every class. The tests cover a lot of material, but he gives pop quizzes where the points get added to your test grades so those definitely help.
Hogg is awesome, one of my favorite professors at Tulane. The class is a generally tough class and he tries to make it a bit more tolerable. Lectures are super funny and engaging but he does cold call. Pop quizzes at beginning of class add extra points onto your tests. Tests are hard and a huge amount of material but you are actually learning.
100% the best prof for LGST 3010. he is very engaging and i learned more in this class than any other class i've ever taken. lgst is a hard class no matter what prof you have, but hogg makes it so interesting and he is so passionate about it. you have to participate in class, and do the readings and you will be successful
Professor Hogg was one of the best professors I ever had. I was often late to his classes and didn't do too well in his class, but any shortcomings anyone has with this professor can only be attributed to the student. He even prints out individual memos for every student after each test telling them what they can do to improve.
Really Really Good Teacher. Be prepared for incredibly difficult exams.
Michael Hogg is the BEST PROF EVER! Genuinely the most caring, accessible, and funny professor I have taken. The exams are difficult, but you will do well and should be well prepared with the resources he provides. Lectures are dense but extremely engaging. Assignments are very applicable to the material and prepare you well.
I liked Professor Hogg, except I never knew my grade in the class. If you miss homework that is not shown in canvas so you think you still are doing well, even if you aren't.
If you think another professor cares more about his students then Hogg, you're wrong. Lectures are incredible, he uses students in examples to make it very engaging. He gives pop quizzes that ONLY count towards extra credit on exams, and you get a cheat sheet. It's a difficult class, but if you pay attention it's impossible not to learn something.
He brings food every class. He is also very interesting to listen to. One of the best teachers I have had at Tulane by far. Thank you Professor Hogg.
Hogg is THE best professor at Tulane. He is so dedicated to his students, writing us multiple page memos as feedback for exams. Classes are very engaging, and he always bring treats from Whole Foods for us. He is understanding, funny, and sets us up for success. Legal content is not easy, but he makes it as easy as possible. Take Hogg for any class
If all my teachers were like Hogg id be a much better student. His class isnt a cake walk but hes the best professor ive ever had. 100% take him, just know its a work based class.
Everyone should take Professor Hogg for Legal Studies. He is the best teacher I have ever had in my life. Tests are hard but he prepares your well. He also lets everyone have a cheat sheet. Amazing teacher, Amazing man.
Great professor. He genuinely cares about his students. He is also always there when you need him. However, towards the end of the semester he started to push his political ideas on us. As someone with a different view from him this made me very uncomfortable. Other than that he is an amazing teacher. Brings food everyday for students!
Professor Hogg's LGST3010 class is challenging but incredibly rewarding. Lectures are engaging, and the material is dense but valuable. To succeed, attend class, do the readings, and utilize resources like unstuckstudy for study prep. Tests are tough but the pop quizzes help boost your grade.
LOVE HOGG! Have to take him especially if you're a legal studies major. He is incredibly knowledgeable. In order to do well: use the outlines given on canvas, read and understand the required cases, study 1-2 weeks in advance. Pay attention in lectures - he is constantly giving tons of useful info for the tests and for real life!
Absolutely the best for 3010. Funny and will make you love business law. The most caring professor and mentor ever. Will go out of his way just for you.
Professor Hogg is amazing! He makes legal studies fun, uses student names in examples, and gives great resources. Effort = success—if you study and use your cheat sheet, you'll do well. He truly cares and creates a supportive, engaging class. I even added Legal Studies as a minor!
Hogg's lectures are extremely informational, participation and attendance counts, he gives LOTS of extra credit quizzes, his tests are knowledge dense but you get cheat sheets, this is a hard class content wise but Hogg's class is easily the best to take. He hosts extra study sessions personally and cares deeply about his students. Take this class!
Hogg has been my favorite professor that I have ever had. His lectures are informational and engaging. I have also never seen a professor care about his students as much as he has, he will even reteach lectures if students miss a class. Go to class, ask questions and make sure your cheat sheets have the correct information for exams.
If I could give a higher score I would. Genuinely the most caring, intelligent, and engaging professor at Tulane. Professor Hogg is one of those professors I will remember long after I leave Tulane and I am not even pursuing law. There is a lot of reading and you have to really comprehend he material but Professor Hogg is always available to help.
Awesome teacher with great anecdotes that will help you remember the material. Definitely not easy, but going to his office hours really helps. Make sure to wake up for the test an hour early because he will send out an email letting students go to the test early and you will need every minute you can. A ton of material in a short period of time.
Hogg is the best professor I've had at Tulane. He genuinely cares about his student's success, giving up his own time to host office hours and review sessions on weekends. If you miss a class, he will teach you everything you missed in office hours. He creates engaging assignments that actually help with the material. I can't recommend him enough!
The best professor I have taken at Tulane. He is an amazing lecturer and goes above and beyond to make sure you understand the material. You can have a cheat sheet for the exam, and he gives an extra credit opportunity for the exams almost every single class. He is super helpful with office hours and soooo funny. Highly recommend.
Professor Hogg is one of the best professors I have ever had. Great guy, super accessible outside of class, and extremely smart. Can not overstate how competent he is. Take him if you are able to.
Best professor I have had a Tulane so far. Incredibly knowledgeable, always available to meet outside of class time, and wants every student to succeed. The class was challenging, but I can't recommend him enough!
Great Professor, very intelligent but be careful because he is a tough grader when it comes to essays and exams.
Over rated. The worst!
Prof. Hogg is one of the best professors in the B-School. I took him for Law in Marketing this past semester and he was amazing. His class consisted of 2 Exams, 1 group project/presentation, and daily quizzes (for extra credit). It's nearly impossible to not do well in this class and it's much easier than his LGST 3010. Take his class!!
