Very helpful teacher. Grading is a little difficult and is sometimes unclear on what he wants. But will help you if you ask and will review assigned papers and give you tips on how to improve them if you come o him before the paper is due. Allows make up writings. Would take this teacher again.
awesome teacher. all we had were 4 essays through the whole quarter and one in class essay. The rest were participation points so if you come to class and pay attention you'll be fine :) oh and a few blackboard discussion questions. No final or midterm or quizzes :) LOVED it!! ;D
He is very nice and quite helpful while some of his help was unclear. He grades very hard for a 101 class. Unless you are very good at analyzing and writing I would go for someone else. I'm taking Ken Fox now and he is awesome.
This was one of my favorite classes! It was just so much fun! Obviously you have to read a lot.. Talking about literature, reading.. He is also a author himself which makes everything even more interesting!
this guy graded WAY too hard for 101. he thinks he is teaching at an ivy league school. we didn't learn much in class and he expected us to go home and write pulitzer prize winning essays. summary: don't take him.
He was an interesting teacher, and gave good lectures, but what started as an English 101 class turned into an Advertisement Analysis class. He didn't teach us much about composition, but assumed we knew that much already. He morphs the curriculum to fit whatever he wants it to be, which can be interesting, but not the best for a 101 class.
his class was a little difficult but not hard at all. All of his homework assignments were easy and so were his in class writing assignments but his papers were harder. But if you AT LEAST follow the guidelines he tells you too, you will receive at least a C+. i would highly recommend him. people who had problems probably just didnt attend class.
Strict grading but he is an overall good professor. Isn't the strictest but isn't the most lenient either. I'd take him again, but if you want an easy A, he is definitely not the one to pick.
This teacher is so simple minded anything outside his field of comprehension gives you a c+ if your lucky. If you can help it do not take him.
Does not care about any problems of yours outside of the class. Very strict.
This is a very good teacher. He comes across hard, but it is for your best interest. To get an A we have to work for it,nothing is wrong with that, and awesome teacher I will take his class again.
Very good teacher
I don't recommend his class to anyone.
I do not recommend his class!Strict grading.Extremely hard to please no matter what you write.Be careful when you take this class. He just gives a minimum grade.Even stricter with students whose english is not their first langauge.Bottom line not a good instructor
Is way too harsh in grading for Eng 101. I can understand marking off for misuse of punctuation and bad spelling/grammar, but he really expects too much. I am an A student and this was the only class I have gotten a B in. I even tried going to his office for advice on my final and still got a B-. Honestly, I don't think he gives A's as a rule. :(
This guy is hard to please! He comes across very jaded and has little faith in his students. I went to his office a few times for help, the man has a hard time looking people in the eyes. He tells his class how easy this stuff is, then ask if there are any questions. He does not give good feed back at all! His memory of once being a student is gone!
He is an awesome instructor; one who cares about his students. The very first day of class (and most subsequent days thereafter) he informs students that he is there to help; we just have to ask. The essays are not hard, they just require some brain usage. Overall, Mr. Huffman is wonderful. I would take him for any class.
Mr. Huffman is a fist class instructor that loves what he does. He is quite clear when explaining what you are expected to learn and goes over everything several times. This is a teacher that cares about you understanding the material and makes every effort to help when you need it. I highly recommend this instructor to anyone.
This guy is a great teacher, I learned more in his class than in any other class before. He says its next to impossible to get an A in his class, but I got one, and all I did was work as hard as I could, and give it my best shot. If you want to do well, you will. If you give up and don't try, YOU WILL FAIL. This is no easy class to pass.
Huffman is a good teacher. He is straight to the point! He is not super friendly but he knows what he is doing. If you need help ask you will get help. If your looking for a nice friendly teacher to hold your hand pass on this class. The workload is consistant but not too hard. He is a tough grader but for the most part its fair! Good luck
Nice person but teaches above his students, does not do refreshers about any aspect of english writing, if you tested in at this level you should know where he is at. Must have a good self-esteem for this class. He is blunt and with a "it is what it is get it down" attitude. He is great about helping utside of class, go to his office for help!
He grade papers very harshly for a 101 class. He does not make paper due dates clear and he sends confusing emails about paper dates. i have missed the deadline for a paper because i thought he had extended the date. He seems to be very unhelpful. I would not recommend his class.
Very laid back cool guy. If you are looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you. He grades pretty tough for a 101 class. He is very helpful though if you ask. If you make an effort in the class and show up every day, you will pass with a reasonable grade. If you don't show up, you have no chance.
Was very helpful and took notes on the computer all class long. He emailed his notes to you after every single class. For a 101 class, he graded a bit harder, but he gave you examples of everything he expected. Was a very good teacher and kept it interesting. I will take him for 102 when I decide to do that.
Huffman's Humanities class is an absolute joke he does absolutely nothing in regards to teaching! all he does is look up youtube videos for you to watch every day. Then once a week you break up into groups and write questions (about the current chapter) on the board. These questions are then used on the midterm and final exam. memorize the Q's = A+
Mr. Huffman grades so harshly. He needs to understand that he is getting paid to teach us and not grade our papers super harshly! He is so sloppy with his classes, his due dates are all wacky, and you cant ever get an A even if you are genuinely trying. Dont take his class unless you truly are an exceptional writer. even then beware!!!!
Huffman is a pretty laid back dude. But he is a strict teacher and grades harshly. It seems like none of my work was ever good enough for him. He never gave good examples of what he expects from the student or what our work SHOULD look like.Overall he is a nice guy but his expectations are why to high.
Okay guy, not very clear on assignments/papers. A lot of assignments,at times up to 3 papers a week, if you don't like to write this is not the class for you!Subject was interesting and I learned quite a bit.
Laid back chill instructor. Has essay responses 1 a week or so and tells you exactly what he wants (take some notes). Very helpful if you just ask. Only 2 papers the whole quarter, no final. Be sure to come to class to get the participation points. I'd definitely recommend him!
Mr. Huffman is a nice guy, that I can say. As far as grading and how he runs his class, he is very strict. The class was not easy for me because Huffman is not what I would call ORGANIZED. He does not give clear instructions and he jumps around too much. However, he is very strict when it comes to grading and NO excuse is a VALID excuse with him
If you want an boring class setting, this is it. There is weekly film response or review and there is 1 big research paper. All papers are graded heavily on grammar. Writing intensive class. For me, I don't feel motivated in class which ruins my whole week.
laid back, helped anytime i asked him about something, watched movies, and learned alot about filmmaking, you do have to work a bit for an A
his lectures are ranty and lack clarity, and they lead to a 5-minute-long rush at the end of class wherein he tries to tie in his meanderings to something he wants or doesn't want in a paper. it's kind of hard to understand him, and i'm a native english speaker, so i can only imagine how the ESL kids in class feel during his jam-band style lectures
English has never been my strongest subject but this class was ok for the most part. You learn a lot especially since it's a foods class. I never talked in their, did my own thing and went with the flow. Go to the SI sessions, they help tremendously. If you do your work, you will be fine.
You watch a lot of movies and write a lot of critical responses in terms of cinematography. The first few assignments were a little frustrating because I didn't know exactly what Mr. Huffman was looking for, but as soon as you figure out what he wants the class is completely easy. You also pick a favorite director and write a report on them.
He did not have a previously made course outline. it seems he made everything up as he went along. Horrible teacher, do not take any of his classes.
Huffman's film class is very fun and easy. The quarter I went he just started doing ipad movies in class which was very entertaining. He doesn't really teach anything except for some vocab the first week of class. He just shows some movies and asks you to write about them. Great movies, cool guy, not a super in depth course though.
His instructions are not clear at all. Looks like he doen't know what he wants from the student himself. Grading is extremely unfair.
Had him for an Intro to Film class. Very easy. Watched film and wrote papers responding to cinematic techniques critiqued by movie buffs on IMDB and whether or not we agreed on their opinion. Also worked with iPads and filmed our own movie. Final paper is a research paper on a director of your choice and why they are an auteur in their field.
If you are thinking about taking him for English 102 find another teacher. His instructions were every unclear. He isn't helpful at all. Taking his class was a huge regret!!
Very unclear instructions, lacking in succinctness, meandering lectures. Did not plan class, was making stuff up on the fly. Do not recommend. very limited feedback on writing assignments.
Difficult class but very interesting. Watch a lot of documentaries, very nice guy. He meanders a lot but he also lets you out of class early often as well. Don't take this class if you want an easy A.
Mr. Huffman is a very nice guy who expects a lot from his students. He grades tough, but hey, this is college people! I have taken his English 101 and HUM130 Intro to Film classes and I thoroughly enjoyed them both. Show up to class, do the assignments in college-level quality, and don't be afraid to ask questions!
If you do your work and attend class you will do fine, no problem. If you are looking for an easy class this isn't it. He's kinda intimidating but a great teacher. You definitely learn a lot.
Not that I was expecting this class to be easy, I have never written a APA paper before and he could have shown a little more guidance. Grades way harsh
Good teacher for this course, he made you work pretty hard but other than that it was interesting and fun. It was a food based class so learning about what happens in the production of food etc. and writing about it. Grades hard but makes you a better writer for it.
One of the best teachers I have ever taken in my life. Gives very clear directions and feedback that will make you a better writer. All of his assignments make you think which makes it easier to get into. Not easy but if you work hard you will come out better.
Fairly easy. As long as you use a few quotes and make it sound like you do understand it by including terms and letting him know you at least read the material, then you"re good. You should only read the stuff pertaining to his questions. Hes a good teacher and knows his subject so its not THAT easy to get by by explaining yourself in short writing
He is a good teacher, but needs to be more clear and direct. Has a tendency to be incredibly vague.
I am disappointed with this teacher. He spends a lot of time talking about himself when I really wanted to improve the way I write. His comments on my papers did not make sense and I feel like I've wasted my time in his class. Nothing was consistent in what he says and he contradicts himself. He gets a failing grade in my book.
Great instructor! Read The Omnivore's Dilemma throughout qtr, wrote essays every week based on book, two big papers, and a few other writing assignments. He is very thorough and helpful. Do the work, put in the effort and get that A! Highly recommend him as an instructor!
While I found the class to have easy material and only two assignments per week was great, grades seemed to be either 100% or 50% due to one mistake. While I received an A in the class, there were some assignments where I had 'written too little' or 'didn't get to the point fast enough' to receive full credit and missed many points due to that.
I had a hard time understanding what I was doing wrong. So, I would put in the work, read the assigned reading, do the responses, but would lose points for vague things like not being personal enough. I also got dinged for writing too much, but I was trying to be more personal. It's like he's never happy.
Definitely my favorite teacher thus far. He is clear about the assignments. He is well-versed in his field and experience makes the best teachers. Will definitely take a class from him again. I didn't find a lot of the comments here accurate. When he is speaking, it means you can learn something; whether it is about himself or not.
While he expects his students to be fully aware of how to properly use MLA and APA citation styles he does have the librarian come and give a refresher on APA before you final research paper. He is always willing to read over you papers before they are due and give you good feed back. Also allows in class editing days before final paper is due
This was a classic case of enjoying the class but not the teacher. Mr. Huffman was tended to be vague when giving directions, and not very understanding if you had concerns. Class is structured Tuesday you watch a movie in class, and Thursday you film a movie. Attendance on watching days is mandatory. If you like film and understand it, it's fun.
It was def an interesting class. few reading responses and 3 major papers, that are super easy. missing class, only affects class work. you wont miss any assignments, however, miss too much days and its hard to catch up. he ALWAYS did a good job of emailing everyone the notes taken in class so you knew exactly what you were doing. awesome teacher!
Professor Huffman is a smart guy. But if you take this class don't expect to get much feedback or ever have any of your assignments graded. 7 weeks into the semester still nothing graded. I have no way to know how I'm doing or if I'm even doing these assignments correctly. Also won't give examples of assignments so you know what he's looking for.
If you mess up on one thing, the guy will be sure to make the rest of the quarter hard. I enjoyed the assignments but when it came to the smallest mistakes he docked points for it. Overall, your homework could be great but if you messed up on a couple things you would get a C or less. Pretty rad assignments but not my favorite professor.
Professor Huffman is very clear with what he expects out of papers and reading responses, in my English 101 class we had 3 papers and 13 reading responses for the quarter. He gave us an adequate amount of time to get each of our assignments done and gave good feed back. We used the book a LOT, it is needed for all of the assignments that he gives.
Professor Huffman is thorough and teaches well. He's fairly laid back & if you're there to learn he'll appreciate your effort. His feedback is helpful, & he's consistent through the quarter about his expectations. In 101, you will become acquainted with APA citations and format, and should you prove able to master those specifics, you'll do well.
I took his Online English 101, and I seriously regretted it. This guy has no respect for life's emergencies that caused my work to be an hour late. He grades harshly and sends very unhelpful comments. Would never ever take a class with him again.
If you take his class online he will take forever to grade things even when you email or go to his office. Also feedback is hard to come by, he only gives vague criticisms.
He takes way too much time grading assignments. If you need extra help on an essay, he either won't respond to you or when he does respond it is with a snarky comment. His critiques are unhelpful and vague. I wouldn't even consider taking his classes again.
Hands down the worst teacher I have ever had. He doesn't do much teaching, but he does do a whole lot of criticizing. Refers to reading students papers as "painful".
Took an Intro to Film class from this guy that sort of turned me off to film entirely (that's what a bad professor will do to you, unfortunately). His grading criteria completely fluctuates and for someone teaching an introductory class, he's got quite the superiority complex. Unclear expectations, inaccessible, for the most part, not a good time.
(Review 1/7) Read Omnivore's Dilemma, a 450 pg. nonfiction book. Each week we had study questions due related to the chapters we read. Peer-reviewing counted toward in-class participation credit. His syllabus and study questions handout had unprofessional typos. His handwriting on the whiteboard and notes on graded papers was illegible.
This guy is the WORST teacher Ive ever had. Does not teach & his feedback on your papers is that of a bad yelp review. Ive cried over the things hes deducted points for. Definitely doesnt care about your learning. Should have read these reviews before signing up for his class.
Hard teacher. 102 english honors is like a 300-400 level comp class. participation matters. Readings every week. Very tough grading for a 100 level class.
He has so many poor reviews here, they are kind of fair but also don't let it stop you from taking his class. He's a tough grader for sure, makes student work harder on the paper and lots of expectations. Grading materials are very thorough, so you know what you need to be working on more, although he is a slow grader. Enjoyed his film class so far
I enjoyed the theme for this class, but I did not enjoy attending his class. He was very demeaning to the students and he did not set clear expectations. My biggest complaint was the lag time for grades. It is impossible to improve if you don't know what you need to work on. I will never take his classes in the future.
He makes the literature seem intimidating, but he is fair with his grading. Most of the work I turned in had little to nothing to do with the reading material, but it was done correctly. I lost 1 point for being wrong or off topic. And by the end, I had more then enough info to write the final paper. I recommend Taking Engl 95 first.
Syllabus specifically states in all caps that late work is not acceptable, then on the very next line he explains that he has a tendency to fall behind on grading assingments. While he did offer extensions when he was behind, the principle of the rules apply to you because you're and adult, but not to me because I'm the professor was shady.
Currently taking his Eng101 class right now. It is rare that his instructions are clear and he gives very little guideline on how he wants assignments to be structured. Also, often spells words wrong in his instructions... He gives ok feedback but it hardly ever clarifies what he wants you to fix. He is consistently unclear.
There are a lot of readings but doing the response is easy for each is easy especially when you get the hang of it. He can be a tough grader but if you go into office hours, get constructive feedback, and apply what he wants you can get a good grade! You can miss a few days and be fine. He is strict on deadlines, but this is college.
I had him for three classes during my two years at TCC: English 101, English 102, and Intro to film. He can be a hard grader because he wants students to exceed their full potential. He doesn't have the laziness of most tenured professors. His assignments are creative. If you actually like English and are ready to put in the work, he's the your guy
He is a great teacher. Goes above and beyond if he sees you are willing to put in the effort. Gives vague feedback in class. It helps if you ask questions. I would suggest you ask questions after class or go to office hours if you are confused. He is more personable when not in lecture mode and will be able to better answer questions then.
Intense with the amount of writing. Do Not Slack Off! BUT because of his constant pushing to do better AND with feedback in the form of written and voice recorded, I am getting straight A's this quarter in humanities and sociology classes which are writing intensive. I see other students struggling and I am glad I took his English 101 class!
No help at all. For crying out loud it is an ENG 101 class, I don't care for english and he is making my school life hell.
He is not specific about a lot of things. You are always going to need to double check everything on canvas. Discussions are pretty quick, simple, and easy, but when it comes to papers it is difficult.
He doesn't do any TEACHING in his online class. Threw my GPA in the mud. Gives vague instruction and nit-picks for reasons to down-grade. Graded harshly for things never taught (because NOTHING WAS TAUGHT!) About 10 pages of course material in TOTAL. Waited a month for grades, so I couldn't even learn from my mistakes in time to not repeat them!
Does not teach well. Has lots of readings and a few papers but grades the papers off things he has never taught.
If you don't agree with his OPINIONS about films in introduction to film, you will not pass the class. He seemed unprepared most days and would go on long rants which he expect students to regurgetate back to him with every writing assignment. He didn't allow any room for individual thought and very clearly doesn't what dialogue means.
Online assignment expectations & feedback were not clear - this made it harder to know what was expected. And the grades would come a month after the assignment, sometimes related to additional assignments due the same day the grade & feedback were given (such as a rough draft feedback given the day the final was due).
Im sure he means well, but his class is very confusing. He doesnt give clear instructions and his wording is very unorganized on canvas. We only wrote about 2 different subjects so if you want to be able to write about your own topic, dont pick this teacher.
He is a very late grader. I didn't get my grade and critiques back on my rough draft until after the final paper was due and the quarter was over. I can't make the corrections needed if I don't know what I did wrong in the first place. He was rude and short with his comments and I didn't find him very approachable.
Wouldnt take this class again. His grading criteria was not clear and has made me feel like Im a horrible writer. Does not explain well and very little lectures given. Critiques work harshly too.
Prof Huffman was a great guy. On my final paper he helped me out substantially. Feedback is somewhat vague but hes easy to reach out to and helpful through email. Didnt give you a choice on final paper topic if you like to choose. Not much work really, but overall a great professor! If youre not dedicated dont take his class.
Professor Huffman cares more about following templates than actual writing skill. Inconsistent and biased grading. A student will make a mistake and hell dock points but hell ignore it when his prized students make that same mistake. Huffman will mark stylistic writing techniques as wrong.
If you haven't had an English class for a while he helps you grow and learn. Coming into the class I wasn't sure what a thesis was, how to cite with APA style and MLA but since his class I understand how to do both. Essays to write but there are practice essays that he gives pointers on to help you before the final product. Great experience.
Does not have any instructional material for his online class and he grades very harshly for things he does not even mention on the assignment rubric.
Grades harshly over minor errors and for things that he never went over. The class was literally on one subject throughout the quarter. Write an essay on one topic only to write another essay on the same topic but he expects you to have it be different or more interesting. Gave a 10 minute voice clip on why my essay was a C. Unhelpful and mean.
Worst professor Ive ever had. Doesnt know how to teach at all. Dont ever take this class, he makes you feel like you dont know basic English.
Loved learning from him, but sometimes it was a little confusing and difficult. Took two classes with him, and would again because I did improve from his teachings. Gave me incredible feedback that helped me earn an A on the final paper.
This was a great class and I learned a lot! If you want to succeed in this class take notes on his comments on your rough drafts and follow the instructions carefully for the discussions. The more you communicate with him the better. Overall He was a great Professor and I really enjoyed the content of the class as well.
There were only two essays that were easy and I got an A on both. If you just do the assignments as best as you can and complete the discussion posts, you'll get an easy A. He grades late and feedback is harsh but honest, which helps improve your writing. Lectures are boring but he typically cut the class short or would say class was optional. 8/10
Overall, this professor wasn't too bad. His class had an interesting theme which is about globalization in foodways. He does really care about your writing as he wants to strengthen your writing. I would recommend taking notes and if you come to class then you would be on his good side of the classroom. Make sure you come prepared in class.
He very much loved to hear himself talk. Attendance was mandatory and graded, and all assignments didn't have days stated, and then were also not up for retake if you missed a day. Not a horribly difficult class, just very tedious to hear him talk for 2 hours straight with little work on how to improve your reading/writing. Okay class lecture heavy
Overall, the class was fine. My issue with it is that it was not well-organized. There were rubrics for the assignments but I had to dig around to find them, and information for the assignments wasn't always all in one place. Feedback for assignments could be harsh but was honest. Getting an A was fairly easy, just don't submit incomplete or late.
Loves to hear himself speak. I would say every class could have been an email but he doesn't write on canvas the correct information that he spews off. Called me a liar for turning in my paper on time and when I showed him proof, he just berated me more. He couldn't do better to work for an actual university so he takes it out on the CC students.
Great teacher, minimal assignments how ever amount or assignments are heavy graded. His assignments are laid out and are plug and play he literally gives you the layout and makes it as simple as possible for you. Tough grader but fair!
His lectures often missed the mark in terms of engagement, causing the material to feel tedious and hard to follow. As a result, I struggled to enjoy his class. The homework assignments were similarly uninspiring, further diminishing my interest in the subjects.
He doesn't really teach anything, and when you ask questions, he gives the impression he doesn't know the answer himself. The instructions for 1 paper will be on 6 different pages on Canvas. Every time I think I finally understand the assignment, I end up having to go back and forth because his instructions are so poorly written, & he knows it!
The professor has a specific teaching style, but engaging with it pays off. Attend class, complete readings, and utilize study aids like unstuck ai to succeed. The workload is manageable with effort.
Hands down the worst professor I've ever had. He loves to waste your time by talking about himself for 2 and half hours straight. No use to even show up to class, but get this: attendance is mandatory! He would answer your questions by saying "well what do you think?" like bruh. I recommend taking this class for character development purposes.
He doesn't provide clear instructions for assignments and expects you to be a mind reader. Zero education was given on essay writing/formatting. Following assignment instructions makes no difference, you'll get a bad grade. Take any other possible professor, this person is terrible at their job.
He makes you read a lot of material, write a lot of detailed papers, and is an incredibly tough grader with very specific expectations - will mark down points for minor details
I wish I had taken another teacher and I was begging for my life the whole time. So many useless assignments. SO MANY discussion boards. So boring.
Not good at making clear instructions.
