Intro to Physical Geography was great! What a professor!!
Terrific class and a great professor. Hunter really makes it interesting.
IF you study the material and take plenty of notes, you will leave this class with a much better understanding of our physical environment. Michael is very approachable and knows his stuff!
Personally, his class was not for me. I didn't feel he was doing much teaching. It felt more like words just coming out of his mouth. I found him difficult to understand and eventually dropped out of his class because of this.
He does not teach anything. He left the class alone and went and did his own work. He didnt lecture at all on half the world, yet he tested on all of it. Basically, its a class for people who dont want to learn, but just memorize stuff from a book.
What an ****! Hunter held a "so called" final review, all he did was list off things that were going to be on the test. He was not helpful at all. Does he even enjoy teaching. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!
Great guy, but he needs to hella refine his teaching methods
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. For world geography he would have us outline the book on the board and grade on whether it looked good or not. Never lectured. Tested every other day. Left the classroom most of the time. He's horrible.
HE STARTS OFF WRITING A LOT OF NOTES, BUT THEN ABOUT HALFWAY THROUGH THE SEMESTER HE STOPS AND LEAVES NOTES UP TO YOU. EASY SCANTRON TESTS, JUST BE SURE TO STUDY IN BETWEEN THE LINES, HE IS VERY PECULIAR.
This is probably the worst teacher for me during my time at Sac City. I think the book was actually a better teacher of the course than he was. He is probably one of those teachers that pride in failing students. Dont take him! Find another geography teacher if you have to.
I got an A but let me tell you I worked hard for that A. U won't get an A if u don't read and study the material outside of class! I wasn't interested in Geog at all until his class, now I kind of like it. U can tell that he really wants everyone to do well &learn a lot from him. Be ready 2 study.
Easygoing teacher w/good sense of humor; willingness to negotiate if you have complaints and to always explains exactly what will be on the tests. Yes, he teaches out of the book, but it forces students to learn the subject. It is better than buying an expensive book and never needing to use it!
Michael Hunter is the worst teacher I have ever had. He is really nice, and I like him as a person, but he's terrible. He never teaches, but expects you to know all of these meticulous details about the subject. All he does is talk about himself, and give you a study guide. AVOID THIS TEACHER!!!!
I hate geography! It is so boring. This teacher tries hard but it just doesnt work. His tests are impossible because he is very much into specific details but never tells you them. So much work and too much effort for a boring subject
I took his video course which included some lectures. He is a very pleasant guy and his lectures were interesting. His class made me more interested in the world. Since his class, I am doing a lot more traveling. I even spent a month in China! By the way, it was an easy A for me.
Very interesting class i enjoyed it. He gives out a test per week. He gives out a lot of extra points. He takes attendence.
Quiz every week on 3 chapters. Tests are on 6 or more very thick and detail heavy chapters. Will not be able to memorize everything for tests, trust me. Sometimes can use notes on tests. Nice person but this class seemed so impossible sometimes. 40 pts ex.crdt. Study like crazy for an A or a B.
READ,take good notes,& STUDY HARD! His lectures are very interesting, but there's just a lot of info that your need to remeber and understand for the tests and quizes. I passed with a C, only becasue of the extra credit.
I've never had a harder professor! He lectures as if you should already know the subject like the back of your hand. Plus he expects you to know EVERYTHING in the book.
This is a hard class i have to admit, but as long as u do the extra credit and he lets u to use notes on a test (sometimes), you could pass it with a B. So good luck, and enjoy that class
Where to begin? We come into class allowed to use notes on tests, then for some reason mid-semester through he decides to change his whole test format. He asks far too much of his students, considering it is a G.E. class (expects you to know everything). Cool guy, bad professor.
He is a cool teacher. Being in college you must pay very close attention and this class is just one of them. I think that he is great. Very helpful. I recommend him for geography 300.
Don't take this class w/ Mr. Hunter unless you're willing to spend EXTRA time on the material, because that's the only way you'll pull through with a B. Extra credit, but too few relative to his MANY detailed tests. Open notes stop at midterm. Great and enthusiastic person, but I'd say his course is far too demanding for a 3unit GE course. Beware.
He's a great teacher. He has a lot of interesting things to say. He's a hard grader so work hard in his class. But overall I would take him again.
way too hard for ge requirement good luck glad im done!!
take down all the notes in the videos rivers city's names
Hunter is very into geography and knows what he's talking about. His classes are challenging (except the lab, which was VERY easy) but I like challenging. I studied a lot and got an A in the class. He does give extra credt, and will help you out if you ask outside of class.
He went throught one unit so fast that every two weeks there will be a test for four or five units. This class went by so fast that I felt like I was in summer class. If you are not a fast learner do not take this teacher (stay out).
terrible teacher way too hard for ge req hated it and him
What the hell is wrong with a teacher who spent 11 years in community college...NOTHING!!! he was funny, and made me laugh and made sure to show you everything off those stupid cds you get out of the books, that you never open!
Mr. Hunter is a true professor. his class is no vacation but who says a class should be? it is just as a true college class should be: ultra challenging. if you pass it, you can officially think of yourself as a college student and assume you're ready for
It is not impossible to do good in Michael's class. Take good notes and ask a lot of good questions and you should do fine. Ask him if you can use class notes for tests. It never hurts to ask in Michael's class. He is very approachable and the most laid back guy you will ever meet! He will teach you, if you are an interactive student.
Mr. Hunter is a great teacher, I have taken two classes from him and I have really enjoyed them.
this class was pretty hard mainly because i don't believe in extra credit.
The material is very hard. The professor is flexible in his grading, offers extra credit, and is willing to answer any questions that you might have.
Very dense material. He's very approachable though and was really interested in the whole class doing well. Be prepared to take the initiative though.
Like drag racing around beautiful lake to take in the sights. Overly esoteric, overly concerned with terminology, overly concerned with making sure nothing's too easy while never once engaging students. He's deflated any interest I had in geography and never let the student's shine ... while reassuring us that he knew everything. Not inspiring!
He's a cool techer and all but the class moved much too fst for me. I knew the concepts of geography better then i knew the terms. The jargin that fills the tests requried me to read the chapters several times in order for me to cmprehend. i wouldnt recommend him for students new to the world of gegraphy.
This instructor is nice and is willing to work with you, however, he assigns too much work. This summer he gave 5 test, quizes in between each chapter, it was just too fast past. I don't really care for his teaching tecnique, he expects a lot of his students for this to be a beginning geography class.
Hunter is great! Unfortunately everything was straight out of the textbook so just make sure you have time to read through! But he is flexible and offers extra credit. He's fun and funny, but a lot of work...
He can be nice, but nice is not what I was looking for. I need an instrutor he can explain the material so I can understand it. I took his beg. geog class, and he teaches the class as if you a geography major. I did not like his teaching style at all.
I had to work my tail off to get my grade. This class is an extremely hard online class and should be a face to face class due to the difficulty level. Exams are nightmares but he allows notes so that helps. Extra credit is a must (up to 5%). Not very clear, tries to be helpful but he really isn't, can be somewhat flexible. Book is $$$$$$$
Mr. Hunter is a great teacher. He is quite hard, but very helpful. If you try in his classes your sure to succeed.
I have really enjoyed this class. It's not easy, but if you show up, pay attention, and read the book, you can pass. I found Hunter to be friendly, very accommodating, and willing to help those who put in a little effort. He permits use of notes on test, and accepts extra credit work. I recommend him!
His class is very hard, I had straight A's -("HAD")Take an easier teacher his classes and expectations are too high/hard
I read the ratings from previous students, and I really needed the Geography class and he was the only teacher available, so I thought I should just take it, BIG MISTAKE, every negative comment that has been written here is 150% true. If you take this class, you WILL regret, just like I have. Way too much work for a starting Geog class...
I've never worked so hard for a B in all my life, and I am an A student. So if you know you are a lazy student, don't bother with this class. The class is **SUPER** fast-paced; tests every other day. The material covered in the text is INSANELY intricate. This class is a HARD college level class. I do not recommend Hunter - he is way too difficult!
HARD! DO NOT TAKE!
Michael Hunter is the worst teacher I have ever had in my college career. His class is a NIGHTMARE! I have never been slugged and studied so hard for a B in my entire life. He is a really cool guy, but an ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS PROFESSOR. I really believe he gets a kick out of giving really hard tests, and failing students.
Hunter is great I took him years ago and still retained most of what I learned. He is very hard, but that is what college is about. I got an A in the class so it is possible! If you are a lazy student he is not for you, but if you love to learn he's great.
This man seems pretty cool in person, but totally unreasonable in online teaching. Do not take his online classes. Expects you to live in the book--not realizing that we have lives outside of his class.
DO NOT TAKE! I dropped this class faster than you can say "Geography."
Awesome teacher!!
Very hard class if you are aiming for an A. It requires about 5-6 hours a week for the reading and homework.
I took an all online class. It was well structured and you know exactly what is expected. It was time consuming but at least you know what you need to do to get the grade you want. The midterm and final are both in person and multiple choice and not easy unless you?ve been paying really close attention. He is responsive and does offer extra credit
prof hunter is nice slightly amusing. hes not a bad teacher its just that you have to actually try and do the readings and what not. hes not just going to hand you a grade... even a C is hard to work for with this teacher. hes alright if you like learning about the Earth and garbage but i would take an easier teacher if you just want to coast.
He moves through the text way too fast, sometimes two chapters in two days. He also gives bad lectures and notes. So it's pretty difficult to grasp any concepts. He can also be pretty condescending if you don't understand what's going on. I ended up dropping his class. I recommend avoiding him if possible.
Oh man where do i begin? Look this is a SCIENCE class. Its hard yes. It is NOT an easy A or B for that matter. But you know what he really cares for his students. You will probably do well if u are a geog major. If not then dont take ur head out of the book! lol. But seriously just ASK for help. He is more that willing. He's a great teacher!
If you have only this class in your schedule, and you like to learn amazing facts about the Earth, take this class. Otherwise, you are gonna be overwelmed.
Don't take during summer way to hard
This class is hard, yes. But if you pay attention and read everything in the book, you can pass. His in-class lectures are hard to follow, so it's up to you to learn the material via your book.
If you are a straight A student then this class is for you. This class is a giant load. You have lectures and have no homework except read the textbook. His tests and quizzes are super hard. You would have to read the text many times over. His lectures are mainly covered in the book. I suggest you find someone in the class to group study.
The Online Oceanography class is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. I would have to go over the text multiple times and the investigation manual was EXTREMELY ANNOYING. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. IF YOU DO, THREE WEEKS INTO THE COURSE, AND YOU WILL HAVE WISHED YOU LISTENED TO THIS COMMENT AND ALL THE OTHERS. Textbook alone is $150 NEW, $130 USED.
very very hard. lots of information, now hw all tests and quizzes. bt a very nice and helpful person (:
Fairly straightforward about material. Tells you exactly what will be on tests/quizzes/final. Lectures taken directly from book so if you miss class you don't miss too much if you read the book. Strict attendance policy. Allows makeup quizzes, but deducts 10 pts. Lots of EC opps. Encourages you to ask q's during test, sometimes gives extra points
This was a very rewarding class and very interesting. He was very helpful. Requires a lot of reading. Tests are in depth. I don't know if people realize this class is provided by the AMS, some people think he has control over the curriculum and he really doesn't. He just grades your papers and provides as much help as he can.
I am completing a summer 6week online course with him and while the course is pretty hard, the teacher is awesome! He responds to emails and questions and grades very promptly. I thought I was gonna hate this class, but I actually liked it very much! Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of onfo, but I'd definately recommend this teacher to anybody!
He's really a great teacher. Responds to all emails in a timely manner and was helpful with homework questions. I took his online summer course and it went by fast as there was A LOT of homework to do. Even in a 16 wk setting, I'm sure there is already a lot of work so be prepared for that but he is a great teacher overall.
LOTS of quizzes, one per week. If you don't read, you don't pass the class. His teaching is based on unorganized lectures, when he writes on the blackboard, it is VERY unclear, and when he shows videos the speakers are blown out so it is VERY hard to hear what the person is saying. He is also very uninspiring, and disrespectful.
If an A.A. degree is your final goal, then this class may not be worth the work for you. If you're planning to transfer to a 4-year, you'll be glad you caught a glimpse of what college work is like... A very good teacher who knows his stuff!
Took 308 from him on-line. The workbook used is insane. Often has nothing to do with other parts of lesson. Zero interaction with teacher, other than threatening e-mails about cheating and telling us if you got the headline wrong when e-mailing your work you'd get a zero. Took tons of time and teacher was a jerk who let the computer teach 100%.
this teacher is useless. he doen't help at all. I sent him an email requesting info on tutors, and i got no response! he spent half of the class flirting with his austrailian man crush who sat in the front. I learned nothing, and his lessons aren't even remotley like the book. Avoid his class if you can help it!
Stay away, dear god stay away from this class. Our class average for the final grades was a low D (62%). Kind of says something when the whole class does that bad. His tests are impossibly hard and he is not all that friendly in the morning either. Real picky about people sitting in the back, almost dropped someone because they sat in the back a lot
Took online class during summer. If you must take this class w/this teacher I recommend online. I cannot imagine getting good grades on tests in an in-person class w/him unless ur a HUGE science buff. Also, don't take w/him if you aren't an extremely independent student. The prof is not friendly or helpful, he actually insulted many students.
Avoid him! He is an awful teacher all but 2 students are passing his class. His tests are impossible and he doesn't teach anything that is on the test. His class is impossible!
Took his online class. Hardly online based. Most work is out of 2 $150 books. Grades harshly. Does reply to emails promptly. Definitely not an easy A, requiring quite a few hours of hwk weekly. He's very particular about format on hwk and will dock you. I definitely don't recommend his class.
DON'T take this professor!Grades harshly, not only does he put your work through a screening process to see if it's "original" he marks down every chance he gets.I am a straight A student and I feel it's nearly impossible to pass this class. The books were $178 for a workbook that doesnt even go with the textbook. Worst professor yet!
dont take this class. I didn't learn anything from him. the book is so expensive. stay away from this class!!!!!!
very organized with his teaching. pulls out info straight from the text. uses powerpoints, videos, etc to keep it interesting. lots of quizzes which help u stay on track with material. replies quickly to emails. i dont pass every quiz but they really arent that hard. just need to do the reading or really pay attention. great instructor :)
There is no room for creativity in Professor Hunter's class. I am one of those students who succeeds when there certain components included in a class room setting: discussions, projects, presentations, and group work is what makes me enjoy a class. Unfortunately, Professor Hunter's class was not able to provide me with all that.
what he teaches is not always on the test. Majority the people fail his class and his quizzes. He wants all typed documents to be in Word document so it can fit his iphone or ipad. I would not recommend him to anyone.
Im a pretty good student but this class pushed me over the edge! Took a hybrid class and was doing fine till final day which covered all 20 chapters was super detailed and i completely failed and my grade went from a 93 to a 78. The most unorganized time consuming class i have ever taken! All online quizes were times with no time to even think!
This was the most horrible professor I've ever taken. I'm an A student, but there's no way anyone could pass this class with an A. It was completely difficult and has tons of HW,but all the effort is wasted because the midterm and final will screw you over. The work you do isn't relevant to the exams. If you still want to take the class, GOOD LUCK!
The way he talks to his students is borderline harassment. His form of teaching is not only not helpful but makes you lose complete interest in the subject. I'm not fresh out of high school and although I'm late on starting school professors like this guy make me wish I never came back. Thanks bud, you must really care.
Wow this is the worst teacher ever!!! Don't take him, just don't bother he is useless as a professor. He gives one minute per question on quizzes/exams and the questions are super confusing. He tries to be funny I guess but he is just rude and he makes the class so irrelevant and boring.
This professor was not helpful at all. He is disrespectful and condescending. There is no time to take down any notes. It was not a fun class. Everything is right out of the book. No room for standing out in this class. I would take another class if I were you. It was the so boring.
well michael didn't have a good way of teaching because in everyone of his lectures he went to fast and didnt give us a chance to get the notes down i think he was just rude and disrespectful and most of the notes we took werent even on the quizzes not even close in overall he wasnt a good teacher
I took this class as a GE requirement to transfer. I really wonder why he continues to teach when he is so obviously DONE with teaching and dealing with students. He is very very rude, condescending, and needs to either cheer up or retire. I do not recommend taking him as an instructor because of these qualities. He is a terrible instructor.
Ok if your stupid.. don't take this class. lol I took 18 units and took 2 of his online courses. I barely tried and half asked the homework and still got Bs in both classes. I would have done better if I was in a classroom environment . So.. just make sure you know how to read and actually do the homework and you'll be fine ;)
Yes, he was hard but after I got the hang of his hw format, it was doable. Just give yourself time to do hw and study before tests and you'll get a decent grade. He responded quick to my emails and graded hw fast. Tests are looong but if youve been keeping up, theyre ok. I liked the (expensive) textbook format, Im keeping mine actually.
My experience communicating with this professor was terrible. He was disrespectful and unwilling to admit to mistakes he had made when confronted about them. Assignments are otherwise straightforward, everything pulled from the class materials. If you choose to take this course, work hard and it will pay off.
I was insulted by professor Hunter when I was trying to get information on the course, not only is he rude but he had the audacity to belittle my profession. I was so excited to learn something new, but I would not recommend him, based on he treatment of the students.
This is the worst professor I've ever taken. He doesn't help when it comes to questions, tries to belittle you in front of the class, and NONE of his notes are on any of the tests or homework. He assigns a ton of homework and never goes over it.
He goes through the lectures very quickly and does not give much time to take notes. He is not clear when it comes to due dates, homework, class work, or anything like that. If you do not ask, you will not get your answer.
This class was such a waste of time. I do not feel like I have learned much of anything. The book is very expensive and all you get is a code to view the book online just for that semester. The prof. does not explain anything. You are expected to teach yourself by reading the 50+ pages per chapter. Two tests, multiple choice.
BORING BORING BORING. No structure. You literally do the same thing every single class. All you do is read and listen. The tests are so hard and that's the only part of your grade. The extra credit he does provide, don't be fooled it does nothing to your grade in the end even if it may seem like you have a good grade
This online class was SUPER EASY! All I had to do was read, do the weekly homework assignment, which took maybe 2 hours a week, and pass. Sure the materials for the class are a little pricey, but being it is online and some of the information available is interesting. I recommend him for online only, his tests and homework are very easy/open book.
Probably the worst class I've taken at SCC. The assignments are confusing and he gets mad if you ask him for clarification. If you do take his class, find a study group ASAP. It will save your grade.
He's just not very organized. His syllabus is a big post on d2l that isn't very specific, and the textbook he uses isn't user friendly at all. He is picky about plagiarism but the class is online so the homework you turn in sounds like the textbook because that's how the information was explained. He also seems unforgiving of student mistakes.
Great guy. Lectures are a little boring but he is very funny and literally gives you test answers if you're paying attention. There is a lot of reading but its not too bad. If you participate in class he will really take a liking to you. He offers extra credit that is super easy and really helps your grade. I passed with 105%.
If you can avoid taking this class- please do. Hunter has you purchase a very expensive online textbook through which you do weekly hw assignments that take at least an hour. This is all the instruction you receive. Your grade is based on these tough and tedious assignments as well as the finals. He does not teach any material, you MUST read.
I would be better off Googling the terms I might think I need to know regarding climate versus taking this class. If I could give 30+ students a poorly written syllabus, tell them to buy a $150 book, then, "good luck, here are your assignments", I'd love to be professor. Lastly, don't tell your class you're ready to retire during the orientation.
This guy is very particular about his grading, if you don't turn in the hw EXACTLY how he likes it formatted (down to the margins) you get docked a significant amount of points. He has very little patience and is very unpleasant to communicate with when asking questions, even though my class is online .. I will not take him again
This class material is enriching. He is sticky about the margins, due dates, & how you write emails. Follow the rules! He's really just professional and expects you to act the same. His organization makes this class worth it. He has a system on grading. You need to turn it in on time, do ALL the extra credit. I missed an A bc of this. C.N.
Yes, he's super particular about formatting, but come on... It is posted from day 1 WITH EXAMPLES... this is college folks, if you can't follow directions you deserve to be docked points! Only used the textbook for tests, assignments are from online source. Fascinating material, great layout, quick grades, would take again in a heartbeat!
I wouldn't take this professor again, I took his online class and he would send emails all the time about the assignments due dates and saying that he will drop who ever misses an assignment . Sorry but this is college not elementary, so I dropped his class for that reason. If you have to take Geog 306, I would suggest taking it at another campus.
150$ nonrefundable required online access. not clear with expectations. condescending. prides himself on failing students for arbitrary reasons. I thought I could handle it because oceanography is part of my major but I can't deal with the sheer lack of respect and humanity in this professor.
hard class
Mike is a great lad! The class is tough but he's a fantastic teacher and he makes you a better student. You work hard but you're ready for college after this course.
