This teacher is not very helpful, is very sarcastic and all around one of the worst professors that I had at Suffolk Community College.
Whoever first rated this professor must have been a lazy student and failed on his/her own account. Dr. Inglis is brilliant. I learned so much in his class, and he is so nice and helpful. I strongly urge people to take his class- everyone I know enjoyedit
He's an ok teacher but not very clear when he talkes. Is it just me or does he always talk about Britain
No Comments
Much harder than Papas, but fair. Very funny(british). Sarcasm used at appropriate times (like when one that one girl asks one of her 5,000 questions per class). Overall an enjoyable class.
Horrible teacher. Didn't teach what appeared on the testS. Everyone failed almost ever test. Did not care about the students failing. He wasn't helpful at all.
When I checked the final grades posted on the wall at the end of the semester, everyone got C's, D's, and F's. The actual class was okay, but the tests and labs were a nightmare. The info in the notes was not on the tests, I'd study so hard for nothing!
Brilliant Lecturer. Awesome teacher if you just listen to him & take notes.EXCEPT!!! what he lectures about is not actually on the tests!!! The labs are way too long and hard. Tests are all hard and tricky & mostly multiple choice. Take him if you dare!
HE IS THE WORST teacher ever--Ask for help---good luck getting it
Professor Inglis is brilliant and he takes astronomy seriously. However this does not make him a good teacher. He is condescending and arrogant and he deliberately gives tests on material that has not yet been covered. He does not care about teaching, only showing off his knowledge and power.
The whole class was a nightmare. I was so interested in Astronomy before time, but I didn't know what I was in for. He is a very intelligent person, but then again he didn't express that in helping his students. I would definitely not recommend Professor Inglis.
Not a good teacher. Maybe a good astronomer but unfair in his teaching and testing corelation. Not helpful with extra help and said to the class, "If you can't do this elementary work then you don't belong in the class." Even with extra help and tutoring sessions, many students did poorly.
I enjoyed his class very much he was a big smartass which i always find funny. He always gave me help when i asked for it. I do agree his tests are hard but not impossible. I thought he was very fair and if you take the class your going to have to work.
He was a brilliant man but a terrible teacher. He let us go early every class, wouldn't answer your questions, didn't help. Basically, he didn't teach and gave tests on information he would cover AFTER the test. Almost the whole class failed. Why is he still a teacher here?
Dr. Inglis is a genius and an excellent professor. If you don't do well in his class, you're just plain lazy and have no right to complain. Some of your responses sound like what a high school kid would say. Life ISN'T fair, get used to it.
he wasnt very helpful. it was a very hard class and he even told the class that he was a hard professor
He is clear and easy to understand but he is mean. He dosn't like answering questions and gets annoyed easily. If you are bad in math DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS YOU WILL FAIL!The math is= to Physics and if you ask a question his famous remark is " If you don't know that you shouldn't be in this class"
He is the "Book of Knowledge" and teaches at the speed of light but DOES answer any questions you have. If you take this course, be prepared to study like you've never studied before! I enjoyed this class because I enjoy studying this subject. It's not like when you were in 6th grade and your final project is to create a solar system out of clay ;)
Granted, I did not know what I was getting into with this class. Very, very hard and a lot of material. He is not helpful with questions. Direct answers and no more are all you can expect. His humor was great but not if you are on the receiving end of sarcasm when you need help. Have a grasp of astrophysics before taking this class
DO NOT TAKE HIM!! He is an arrogant and condescending man that is only concerned with showing off his intelligence, instead of helping students. His tests never corresponded with any notes or info in the text. I studied more for this class than any others during the semester and still received a poor grade.
WROSTE PROFESSOR IN THE WORLD. I never failed a class in my life before him! He is arrogant and rude. He may be a genius in astronomy, but he is the worste profeesor ever. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He gives you tests with no warning with information that he hasn't taught you, then after you hand in the test he teaches it!!! Unless you know your stuff when
impatient and easily annoyed, he's also rather pretentious and arrogant. he's unorganized and his tests don't always seem to correspond with his lectures. if you're fresh out of HS and need to fill a science requirement, choose someone else. i recommend professor gambier for by14.
I enjoyed both of his classes very much. He answered any questions that I had and was not nasty at all. The problem with alot of these people on here is that they didn't show an interest or do their work, then when they fail they blame it on him. Astronomy is not an easy subject! You have to study hard, show up to class, and do those labs!!
He was the worst teacher ever.I think astronomy is awesome, but he makes it horrible. He wants you to read him mind and guess what is going to be on the test. Do not take the practice exams on his site, they are not found on the test, it will be a waste of your time. Alot of the questions on his test, we never even learned.
He *IS* pretentious, rude and overall a horrendous professor. He receives creditation for being a "NASA Scientist" but does not seem to accept the fact that not everyone else is. Terrible exams and labs, which he never seemed to explain. Take my advice and NEVER under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES enroll yourself into his class
I did all that was required in this course, came every day, for Inglis to fail me with a smirk on his arrogent English face. Do yourself a serious favor and skip Inglis, the class is great but just NOT with him!
It's called COLLEGE people! What babies people are who complain about him. Yeah he's hard and you gotta work in his class. No he won't spoon feed you the answers. He's really smart and respected in his field and teaches a real college course. If you happen to be a baby and want a free A then don't take his class. BTW, awesome accent & funny.
For those who whine about professor Inglis, I wish you luck if you plan on going on to a better school after suffolk. I guess most people cant handle an actual college class and a professor who doesn't teach as though they are a 5th grade teacher. Yes you have to work hard in his class. You have to take alot of notes, show up to every class, read
Dont let those who complain about Inglis discourage you from taking his class. I can promise you if you try hard, do what he asks, and show interest....he will pass you. He teaches any basic math that you will need the first day of class (trust me i suck at math, and it was easy). For tests, go over ALL notes, and ONLINE TESTS! and you'll be fine.
He is a great Professor. His makes jokes from time to time which makes the class fun.....his exams are hard if you dont study but he has practice exams on his website for you to take b4 each exam....i highly recommend his class.
He is by far the worst teacher ive ever had! He is sarcastic and it seems like he likes to see his class suffer. THere is concept that most teachers should take into account is that each student has their own learning styles and he could care less!If you dont get it your screwed! When i asked for help he simply told me to "try harder"! DOnt Take!
I don't care what positive things others may say about this guy.Hes HORRIBLE - Yes, he is intelligent and knows a lot about his field, and yes he claims he worked at Princeton or wherever the hell he says...but he doesn't care about his students, not in the least - unless youre a cute girl, because he favored the two that were in my class.
Inglis an unconventional professor, one of those who enjoys throwing curve balls. You must be a great math student and be able to comprehend abstract concepts in order to do well. Don't rely solely on class notes from his slide shows-take notes on everything he says, read the text, and take the practice exams on his web site. Got a B, but it wasn't fun.
Dr. Inglis is someone who obviously loves what he does-Astronomy is his LIFE, so you'd better make it yours if you want to do well in his class. If physics & abstract scientific theory don't interest you even remotely, don't take this class. You will learn a lot if you take an interest-and if you TRY. He likes diligence and will reward you for it.
I don't know what to say about this guy. I think he favors people that have been in his other classes and hardly cares about anyone else. He gives really good notes, and his practice tests on the websites, work extremely well. The labs are boring, and he can be sarcastic. However, I do recommend him. He is a good teacher, better than ones I had bef
horrible professor very sarcastic and rude
professor inglis is a great professor. he makes rather difficult and confusing information easy to understand. he might poke a few jokes here and there at students but its all in fun. if you are expecting an A and do not plan to commit yourself to his class you will most likely fail. dont take any of his classes unless you're ready to learn
Professor Inglis is smart, but not a good teacher. If there is a question, the reply is usually, look it up in the book. Don't be late. English and points out famous people by, " oh, hes british" and no one else. Tests are easy, he posts up practice exams. THE LABS ARE IMPORTANT. He will not tell you, you have to ask anything. don't "need" text.
He is a very prim and proper person, and does not take crap from anyone. Be on time, take notes, and you'll be fine. He gives practice tests on his website that have the SAME EXACT QUESTIONS as his tests. Study those tests and you will walk away with an A. His grading for labs however is very tough. BTW, he's Welsh. DON'T ask him if he's English.
Great professor, very passionate about his subject. However, the class is difficult. Labs count for a lot, more than the exams, so don't just say "eh, whatever...", as they ADD UP IN THE END!!! It's basically cut and dry though; show up and do what he asks of you and you'll be fine.
Extremely experienced in his field, but needs to teach instead of assuming all of his students are astronomers. He does not help with the labs, he lets the class sit and suffer and he gets pleasure out of it. Interesting subject, but beware.
He is a very smart professor who knows alot about Astronomy. The class was very interesting, but not easy. He is a great professor, its just the class that is difficult!
1st of all,it's zEE-nith not zen-ith,and the 1st day of class he tells you that you are lucky if you pass with a D.He knows his stuff, and gives you a lot of notes and pretty pictures to look at,but don't bother taking the notes,or reading the book cuz NONE OF IT IS ON THE TEST! He is a tricky tricky man, and doesn't really give you direct answers.
he was a pretty hard teacher..classes were interesting but come test time i bombed..studying the notes are pointless..so many questions came from leftfield.some stuff on the test we never went over in class but i did not read the textbook everyday so maybe that was the problem, not a bad guy but his test r HARD. half the class failed,i eeked out a C
Dr. Inglis is a wonderful professor. His lectures are very interesting, but the material is hard. If you are not willing to read outside of class and study, then don't expect a good grade (but the same should be said for any science class). Dr. Inglis is a very nice man, very helpful, GREAT sense of humor, and very interesting class.
Doctor Inglis was a great professor who is very passionate about what he does and its apparent in the way that he teaches. It wasn't the easiest class in the world but for all the people saying they bombed the tests, he has online practice tests, with word for word questions, there is no excuse for failure if you simply do the practice tests.
He's a great teacher, his classes are very interesting. He sees your potential and if you have any difficulty, he will help you out, he won't tell you the answer right away, but he'll tell how to get the answer. He's very straight foward. Very funny man, but yet very strict. And yes, for the tests, you'll have to read the book, and the practice tes
He's a great teacher, his classes are very interesting. He sees your potential and if you have any difficulty, he will help you out, he won't tell you the answer right away, but he'll tell how to get the answer. Very funny man, but yet very strict. And yes, for the tests, you'll have to read the book, and the practice tests are very helpfull, too.
he is a very funny guy, made the lectures enjoyable, but the exams are really hard and you NEED to study. you also MUST learn the constellations in the planetarium on your own. take the class if you are interested in the topic but dont expect an easy A.
VERY HARD CLASS. The tests are very difficult and cover a lot of material. Be prepared to put a lot of effort in for this class. Prof. Inglis is very smart though and knows what he's talking about
This professor does not care if you are failing. He is not helpful at all and makes fun of his students when they do not know an answer. His tests are extremely difficult and some material is not even covered in the lecture notes. You are on your own for his class and must teach yourself the constellations on your own time. Would not reccomend
Mr. Inglis was not a very good professor. I feel that he did not give a darn about his students. The test were very hard and and did not cover the information we took notes on. If I asked for any help, he would just tell me to read my notes. Would not recommend this teacher to any of my friends attending Suffolk.
Extremely difficult. Notes were easy to take and understand, but were not used in any way in the actual exams (which were impossible). Of the thirty that started out in my class, nine remained. He did not offer any extra help, and mocked students that didn't immediately understand the material (this was an INTRODUCTORY COURSE ,absolutely ridiculous
GET THE old TXTBOOK ($20), its not required but Im assuming the writers of these bad reviews didnt get this book. yes, the test are hard, bc his test are based on the deep understanding the material, something you need a book for. and he is VERY helpful if you show that u care from the START. hes just sarcastic. but has a great heart.
Absolutely Great! Like any science ast is NOT AN EASY A! He is more than willing to help if you seek it. If you do not put in effort you will not do well but that does not reflect Dr. Inglis it reflects the level of difficulty of ANY SCIENCE COLLEGE LEVEL class. He is an amazing teacher! LOVED HIM!
Dr. Inglis is an outstanding teacher, and while his tests are difficult, they are do-able if you have enough time in your schedule to set aside to study. He's got a good sense of humor, and he delivers his lectures with enthusiasm. If you're ready to earn your grade, definitely take his class.
Awesome Professor. Very funny and crystal clear with the material. Does heckle his students but in good sport and although rough is very knowledgeable. I loved every minute of his class and looked forward to it.
He is BY FAR the best prof. I have ever had. he made me realize that planets and stars have feelings too, and we need not to bully them. i have a passion for laying out on my lawn, gazing up at the stars because of this man !!! and he is very attractive !
BEST teacher!! Such a funny guy and a great astronomy/life teacher. Expect to laugh a lot when you take his class. Taking astronomy with a different teacher this semester because he is not here for this semester and I am not nearly as pleased. He is one of a kind!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Inglis is the WORST PROFESSOR I have ever had! I am a straight A student, however this class killed my GPA. Most material on the tests were never covered in class! 2/3 of the class dropped out. This is an introductory course for non-science majors but he teaches as if it were an astrophysics class. He is also condescending.
Dr. Inglis even offered (unprompted) to write me a recommendation letter. He is fun, enthusiastic about the material, and lenient with grading if you give the effort. He even helped me decide my career. I'm truly glad I took the class and met him.
this teacher was great! he helped put things in a human perspective and helped make things clear while using a sense of humor! he was great and really paid attention to his students! loved him!
Although this class was rather difficult material wise, I had a lot of fun in this class! I'm so glad that I took it and it was a pleasure having Doctor Inglis as my professor. He is a very down-to-earth and funny man, and he really pays attention to those who try their best in the class. I don't regret taking it one bit!
AWSOME !! He's a little rough around the edges and a bit intimidating. The class itself is easy, if YOU DO THE WORK. But, it's not that hard, go to class, bring your lab materials and pay attention. NOT THAT HARD. He's quite funny though, even if his humor is at your expense sometimes. I REALLY ENJOYED his class. Great Professor!!
You are going have to work for this class. He is a tough grader and he aspects a lot of his students. This will prepare you for you next school. I would recommend him but you will have to work for you grade but i cant tell you how much i learned from his class and how much i still remember.
I love Inglis, but half my class dropped out before the withdrawal date because there is a lot of studying you need to do for the tests! he is hilarious! he really likes outgoing and sarcastic students and jokes around often, if you are not outgoing maybe you should pick a different professor. overall you have to work for your grade.
Took an Astrophysics class with him. Very tough grader but the lectures were interesting and his experience is impressive.
If you can avoid taking this Professor then do so. You will be lucky if you get a C. He is rude and very narcissistic. He talks a good game, but can't walk it. He is a full time professor--which means he gets pay no matter what-- so he doesn't care about helping students. He really just needs learn how to teach and try to be less full of himself.
I took Professor Inglis' Ast102 class, and loved it, I didn't do well in the class, but I loved his lectures and how passionate he was about Astronomy, he made a lot of jokes and kept the class intrigued. He was helpful, but made you really think about the answers to your questions, and the labs were super easy. Would take his classes just for him.
you have to study, its a lab science so obviously there is work involved. He likes when students show they care and he is willing to help you if you show you need it!! almost a year later and i still go to him for advice and a good laugh! he's British so his accent is entertaining, i would talk in an accent just to annoy him, he's my favorite prof
Tough Grader but if you pay attention and act like an adult (do the work, show up to class, pay attention, don't text) you will do well. He is very funny even though sometimes his humor can be a little bit sarcastic/condescending. Lectures are interesting, and he gives short little quizzes at the end of each lecture to be sure you undrestand.
Dr. Inglis is one of the most knowledgable professors @ Suffolk. Don't be intimidated by his brilliance, he is willing to help anyone that asks. You will NEED to study for a good grade. There is a minimal amount of math in the course, and if you've already taken Physics I then you should be able to well. Good luck!
HORRIBLE professor!! Tests are extremely hard - all fill in. He hardly teaches and doesn't care if you fail. He's extremely nasty and just loves himself. You cant talk to him during his office hours if his door is closed, which is 95% of the time. Wants you to buy and read his book. Good luck if you take this professor
This class was NOT easy. If you actually participate and show you care Professor Inglis will like you and care about you. It was actually really questionable if I'd pass, I danced in his office when I found out I did. I was genuinely shocked. The tests were extremely hard, just make sure you do all of the labs! Very interesting though. Good Luck!
Very funny, entertaining and he clearly knows the subject. You definitely have to work hard in the class to pass though. The best thing about him is that he clearly has a passion for the subject which is generally the most important thing with professors. He might not be be for everyone, but I thought he was great and absolutely recommend him.
Nice professor who isnt boring but is a little too sarcastic for me, sometimes to the point where I didn't even want to ask a question. This class is a fast paced class so reviewing notes every night is essential. Make sure to take lots of notes, study, and do all of the labs, and you will be ok
Very knowledgeable of his work. Has a good sense of humor. Don't expect to slack and pass. Encouraged me to continue in the science field and I'm forever grateful for it.
Professor Inglis is a very entertaining guy but man his class was tough. If you even attempt to slack off once you're basically doomed for a test. Inglis also can also be full of himself and can come off as rude occasionally. Only take him if you're focused 24/7
he is not lenient and does not make online learning any easier :(
If youre taking his class just be prepared to be on your own, to him you are just a CRN number. He does not accept late labs at all and offers no extra credit. Would not recommend taking any of his classes if you are not serious about your studies.
Doctor Inglis is very knowledgable of astronomy and he is very funny and sarcastic. His exams are difficult so you definitely have to make sure you are on top of your work and studies for the course or else you won't do well. Make sure you participate as well.
I needed a science credit and I've never been more excited to be in a class. Super sarcastic and tells jokes but enjoys classes who are engaged with the content! Take notes, pay attention, labs are super important and don't miss homework! Don't be scared to ask questions regardless of the sarcasm, he wants to make it enjoyable!
The hardest yet most interesting class I've had at Suffolk. He is extremely sarcastic, making fun of everyone in a joking matter. Labs and homework are easy to do well on, but tests are extremely difficult. If you don't study, you will fail the test miserably. He cares about the subject that he is teaching and makes you want to attend and succeed.
