He the most awarsome proffesor I have ever had in college. Fun, energic, explain with more examples. He explains very good the materails and give you problems to work on.
hes a very good teacher. hes always willing to help and hes also very funny. dont slack a bit in the class because he covers a lot of material in a small period of time and missing his class wudnt be wise at all. hes one of the best teachers i have taken at eastern.
If you listen, attend class, and study you can get an A. Go To SI session if its available.
Energentic and willing to help, but I was annoyed by him by the end of the semester. He puts forth a lot of effort but has no Phd and occasionaly hits a topic he knows very little, or is mistaken about. He jumps around the book too much to make it useful for test studying, if you missed a lecture you missed a test question. I don't recommend him.
Lectures a little scattered, but lets you know what will be on the test. If you study, you get an A. Learned a lot! Funny guy, you will not fall asleep-even if it is a 8am class!
Very interesting. Has many interesting asides to the material. Tests are very fair.
He is very funny, loves to answer questions in class. his exams involve a LOT of writing, but he is a very fair grader.
Very scattered. Changed syllabus multiple times, I paid $120 for a genetics book that he decided to no longer use halfway through the semester. Unorganized, not very helpful, and gave you no clue where you stood grade-wise throughout the semester. Promised class A's if you do the final project, I did and somehow got a C+...very unclear.
A great teacher!! Be prepared to do a lot of work.
Dr. Kielb made me enjoy bio, even though i came into the class thinking i hated the subject. It was definately a lot of work, but if you focus and keep up with him you'll do fine. he's also really interesting in class, keeps me awake the whole time. I would definately recommend him.
very knowledgeable, makes lectures interesting, although the tests can be a little hard.
Intresting nutty professor type. Makes lecture tolerable with his fun style. Does require work though. His tests are difficult and many questions are sahort answer/essay so you have to study or you'll fail.
He is a tough prof. You have to really study for his exams. He is always willing to help and meet with students to answer questions.
Keilb is a very enthuiastic and helpful teacher. He is also fair when it comes to grading tests. His tests are challenging and it really helps to talk to him before each test.
Kielb- is an awesome teacher. He knows his stuff and is willing to work with his students. I thought I was going to hate this class, but it was my favorite class for this semester. His test are hard, so you do need to study for it. He does care about his studnets. He is a great teacher.
does not help as well as most people state. always tels you i cant help you with that. test are off the wall asks you to know one thing and asks the question in a different way. the class average for the fisrt 2 test are in the 60's
I took this class as a guest student in spring 2007. He was a great prof. Very clear and helpful. He knew his stuff. I would recommend him :) I ended up with an A in the class which is close to impossible at my home university.
He keeps you awake..and hes very funny, which can be good and bad! His tests are very hard. You really have to pay attention in class, because he'll put a few questions on their about what he said, and the rest is from the book. so reaaaaddd!
His class was tough, but he made it worth it to take the course.
Trick Q's on the tests, he would rather see his students be fooled than to see them really understand the material
Absolutely ridiculous. it is as if he wanted his students too fail. you could know every important fact that you SHOULD be tested on... but not a single important question is on the test. attendance isnt mandatory because it doesnt even help. he will point to a part of the brain on his slide and say "o that is interesting" and then move on.good luc
Mike doesn't know anatomy and physiology. He is a genetics study. Why is he teaching this class? Because Bob Winning loves him.
Had him for genetics as well as A&P. He is a spectacular genetics teacher, really knows his stuff and wants to help you succeed. However, in A&P his lectures are worthless. He is very knowledgeable but doesn't seem to know hoe to structure the class to make it more conducive to learning rather than memorizing.
Awesome professor, really drive the info into your head. you definitely have to spend a lot of time studying and preparing for exams. You never get homework, and skipping class is very very tempting. But i promise...its not a good idea.
focuses on what you NEED to know (for nursing, pre-med, OT, etc). tests are hard, but study along in the book what he tells you to look at in lecture. there is too much material to cover everything in class, so lectures and labs are a guideline to what to study on your own. be prepared to work, but it pays off.
He does not know how to teach. He does not know his own text. He does not know how to write test questions. He is extremely inappropriate in his use of mneumonics and his constant talk about drugs and alcohol. Professors should be above that and not try to seek approval from students in such inappropriate ways. He can't stand being challenged.
Kielb is a nice guy, but this was the most useless class I have ever sat through. Not sure if it's his fault or what. He did seem to freak out a little when people asked him questions; a little insecure to be a good teacher. The worst thing about this class was the total lack of a lab. 2 hours of extra study time was insulting. WASTE OF MONEY.
Although he borders on being a little eccentric and "out there" with some of his liberal opinions, I believe he geniunely wants to do everything he can to help his students succeed in class. He does expect personal responsibility from his students and will not "spoon feed". Plan on studying hard for exams and don't miss lectures. I enjoyed class!
He is not very clear, and has a hard time explaining answers to questions that are asked in class. I had him for 201 and 202 and it was mostly self taught and if it wasnt for having Erin for lab I probably wouldn't have learned what I did.
Mr. Kielb is a great professor. I read some comments about him, I am taking him now for neuro. I don't know about A & P but he is great for neuro. Coming to class is a must if you want a good grade. He's a fair grader and he is very thorough about answering questions. He doesn't make you feel dumb for asking them even if there obvious. Go Wings!!!!
Definitely not my favorite teacher. Made tests really hard almost like he was trying to trick you on questions. I didn't learn anything in class, he just went through all the pictures in the book. Kind of useless. Difficult teacher overall.
Just uses pictures from book and says learn this picture and this picture and so on. I would take another professor but he is the only one to teach the class. I feel like I wasted $1000 and could have got more out of reading the book. The only reason I go to lecture is to find what test questions he will have on the test.
not very helpful in explaining how things work. reading the book alone is more useful
The class is very time consuming, and if you don't study, you will not pass. If you do study, you will do fine. Lectures are not so great, just goes over pictures from book chapters, but if you do need help, he will help. Just be really really dedicated to this class. It is a lot of material to learn at a quick pase.
whats up with "this guy can not teach". He is one of the best professors i have ever had. I had him for A & P 1-2 and Neuro and i have learned a ton!! He knows his stuff and his tests are based on lectures. Going to class=good test. People just have to adjust, every teacher has a different teaching method.
Doesn't explain much about what is needed to know, just points to the screen and says "You need to know this" and shows pretty much every figure in the book during the lectures/reviews. Hard to narrow down what to study. Tests are pretty straightforward, DO NOT expect just going to class will get you an A, you WILL need a lot of outside studying!
Not an effective teaching style. Goes over every slide in the book during lecture. Never attended class. Read book and attended the class before the test and got a B.
He is fun to watch, but tests can be unpredictable. The key to his class is to study hard and take it seriously.
Professor Kielb is awesome. Go to class because when he goes over powerpoints he mentioned what what you need to know and what is not important. Then he tests you based on that. If material is on the test that he didnt mention then all you have to do is approach him. He's understanding. One of my favorite professor of all. And hes a Red Wings fan!!
I had him for Anatomy. He was by far the worst professor I have had. He would go off topic most of the time. Would loose his train of thought. He handed out a lecture overview but it didnt make to much sense.I emailed questions,IF he got back to me it was a week or so after the exam. Also went to see him 3 times, he wasnt prepared any of the times.
Professor Kielb is not the best teacher I've ever had, but he is by far the funniest. Reading the book is so important, and if he mention something, or calls something "cool", LEARN IT. He is not a boring teacher, and goes out of his way to make lecture interesting. He's a weird cookie, but what do you expect from an anatomy professor?
Can be funny. Knows what he is talking about. However, he gets off topic more times than not. I actually quit attending his lectures half way through the class with the exception of his exams and my exam grades continued to be the same as when I was attending class. If he calls something cool, learn it. I would say avoid him, but he's the only one.
By far my favorite professor i have ever had. He makes learning fun. He knows exactly what he is talking about. If you attend the lectures and read the book you will do just fine in his class. He does not try to trick people. He makes me want to go to class and learn about what is going on in the Human body. I would recommend him to anyone!
He is a good prof, grades with a "correction factor" (curve). He doesn't answer emails, but he is pretty straight forward about what's going to be on the exam. Expect to buy the book and know the images from it. He is a good prof. Take down what he says and you'll get an A or B and not have to take the final.
I took multiple classes with Dr. Kielb. Listen to his lectures but rely on the book. Nice guy.
His class was very irritating. He got off topic way too often and relied heavily on pictures as teaching tools. Threw way too much at us and made it hard to determine what was important. IMO he enjoyed shocking the young female students with his "humorous" and racy comments, more than making sure we learned the material.
Great teacher, very hard material. His exams are tough, I studied 2-3 hours about 5 out of the 7 days a week and got a high B. The final is optional, but if you do better on the final than any of the exams he will use that grade instead of your bad test grade. Class averages were C-'s for the test, great teacher overall.
I have had Kielb for 251, 252, and 330, and he is a great professor. Yes, he has quirks and expects a lot from his students; however, when 99% of your students are heading into professional programs (i.e. nursing, OT, and dietetics), it's kind of expected that you put in the work! He's a very energetic guy and has great stories.
Prof Kielb is very helpful. A lot of his slides come from the figures in the book so buy the book. His reviews are very beneficial before the exam. A lot of memorization but highly expected since it is a 300 level course. No homework just exams and lab quizzes. The quizzes are easy and help your grade in the class.
You definitely need the book and I highly suggest you go to class. It's a lot of stuff to cover, and sometimes you will get confused, but he is really the only one you can take. Lab helps get your grade up. I like Dr. Kielb, and he does make you laugh. He knows his stuff. I took A&P I at HFCC, and I prefer EMU and Dr. Kielb better.
Love/Hate relationship. I had him for BIO 251 & 330. He's hilarious/quotable, but sometimes takes for granted the fact that he's been doing this for a lot longer than we (students) have and breezes through info. Expect to memorize pictures, but know written answers. Challenges you to think in new ways and use various learning resources.
Kielb has a lot of great stories and cool little facts he throws into his lectures. However, he basically uses slides directly from the book and talks like he's reading the chapter. For the tests he seems like he goes into so much more detail than covered in the lectures: much harder than they should be. 140$ lab book not worth the meager 40 pages.
Lectures are interesting, but you also need to read the book on your own time to fully understand everything. His teaching style is hard to adjust to, but if you take notes and study very hard you will do fine.
I thought Dr. Kielb was fair, but difficult. There is a lot of information and he isn't clear about what you need to know for tests. Anything is fair game. READ THE BOOK! I think I taught myself moreso than he taught me. But class is mandatory bc of clicker questions. Thankfully, I earned enough points and didn't need to take the final.
I'll start off by saying that he is indeed a nice guy & quite a character. But that won't get you very far in this class. Neuroanatomy is a nightmare on its own & he makes it worse with his remarks about how impossible it is & how incompetent we are from day 1. & then he puts trick questions on the exams! He also uses medical-school level jargon.
He is quite the character. But he is very straight forward and tries his best to make the material interesting with jokes, pictures, etc. A lot of people find him difficult but thats the nature of the classes he teaches. Considering what he teaches i find him very fair, and just challenging enough to keep you working. His extra credit helps too.
Professor Kielb is great. I had him for 251 and now 252. As long at you pay attention to when he says things like, "I really like this slide!" You will do just fine. He is very fair with grading, if several people don't do well on questions on test he throws out the question.
Kielb will often digress, but it tends to be amusing & educational. He keeps lectures interesting & is extremely knowledgable. Can be slightly confusing but will always clarify if asked. Tests are sometimes heavy in certain areas. Offers study guides & reviews before exams. Put in the work & the class is easy enough. Fair, straightforward prof.
Prof. Kielb is very intimidating at first. He does this on purpose so that you'll study your butt off! And you really do need to study A TON to pass. But he warms up and he does mean well. He is super funny and tells cool stories that apply. If you like human biology and you're a motivated student you'll learn a lot and enjoy Kielb's insight
Kielb knows what he's talking about, for sure, but Neuroanatomy will be challenging with him! Neuroanatomy will always be tough, but sometimes I feel he makes things hard because he enjoys to, not because it will help you understand it. I recommend recording the lectures and listening to them while you study, at your own pace. Be prepared!
Prof. Kielb is your typical, slightly eccentric Ann Arbor professor. Neuroanatomy was by far the hardest course I have ever taken. The content is difficult, you are responsible for most of your notes. Exams were intense, you definitely need to study as much as possible to succeed. Kielb has a decent sense of humor, but be prepared to WORK.
I highly recommend Kielb! He knows the course inside and out and often brings in helpful outside stories. He teaches with powerpoints using images from the textbook and you can listen and take your own notes. There is no homework and only 4 exams total that are sizable but not too frightening. He definitely prepares you for lab & Bio 251.
Absolutely outstanding instructor - extremely intelligent, knows the class material off of the top of his head. Study hard for exams, value the lab work as much as lecture, and do pay attention if he mentions how much he likes a particular piece of material.
This is not a blow off class. I repeat. NOT A BLOW OFF CLASS. But, with that being said, Kielb is entertaining, interesting and know his stuff. Keeping up with the reading is mandetory and learning to memorize is key. Over all, I enjoyed the class.
This class is no joke! I studied my butt off for an 85%. Professor Kielb is a nice guy but his class is very difficult. You have to really read the material on your own as well as follow his notes. Make time in your schedule for this class and you'll do okay.
Go to class to get clicker questions, he does not provide slides or notes as Rae does but you can get through it. He wrote the lab book we use for the class. VERY KNOWLEDGABLE. Funny guy.
Had Kielb for both 251 and 252. About to take Neuro with him. Great guy, but his classes are down right TOUGH!! Study, go to class and pay attention. Apparently in the past he would drop a test...not the case any longer. 4 Exams, super tough. But if you study, you'll do fine
DO NOT TAKE HIS ANY OF HIS CLASSES. He talks about all other things except the things that you will need to know. His slide shows only show pictures and says you should look at this he does that throughout his whole presentation and then talks about random things the rest of the time. Horrible professor. I am an A student and I received a C.
Best teacher ever! He knows his stuff, tells a lot of good and interesting stories, class is so much fun! You do have to study hard and read the book. You can get as many as 50 points from answering clicker questions every day!if you're taking this as a prereq for nursing, seriously it's nothing compared to all the reading in nursing school. Enjoy!!
Kielb was a wonderful professor. I really enjoyed his classes and they prepared me for my Master's program in Health Care. He is pretty straightforward on what he expects his students to know and how to proceed in the course in order to be successful. 4 exams, 50 clicker points and labs. Attend all labs as they will help boost grade in the class.
Professor Kielb teaches difficult material, so it's a given that his class is going to be hard. However, I felt that he spent way too much time making sexual and often offensive jokes when he could have been providing clarifications on material. Next to impossible to get clarification from him, go to lab instructors or SI meetings.
Dr. Kielb is a wonderful professor. I would suggest taking him over Rae for lecture. He gives you objectives for the exams, if you do them and understand them, you'll ace the exams. It is a tough class and requires a whole new level of dedication. Plenty of people fail the class or drop, but there are also plenty who get A's.
Neuro is hard as it is and Kielb doesn't do anything to make it easier. The only thing that saved me was lab with Donzis. Tests are hard but surprisingly easier this semester than they've been in the past. Expect to teach yourself.
It's only 4 multiple choice exams, and that's it! No homework, no projects, no quizzes, no nothing really to help you get an A in the class. A little boost would be good. There is some extra credit on the exams, but it's doesn't really help because it's like 2 points when the exam is out of 100. If you want an EASY A don't pick kleib.
Not so bad! The exams are multiple choice and more memorization than apply your knowledge like other bio professors so you have to study everyday so you don't forget. The exam is from the book so you HAVE to read. He gives a full grade curve on every exam so if you get an 80% he will curve to 90% which is nice. He also gives extra credit on exams.
Kielb really knew what he was teaching and he is very passionate. The class is hard but lab helps a lot! Get ready to memorize, memorize, and memorize. Kielb may come off has scary at first but he is actually a nice guy and pretty funny too. If you need help go to his office hours! That's when he will clarify anything you need help with. Good luck!
Can seem initially charming, but... literally the worst instructor I have ever seen in a classroom. "Lectures" are nothing but pictures and off-topic stories. Tests are off-topic, and usually pulled from some internet source. Belittles students in class. Won't clarify material for students. Won't give direct answers to honest questions in class
Make sure that you are ready to take notes as soon as you sit down. He uses slides but they are pictures so you have to pay attention to what he says and write it all down. He's fast at explaining things so you have to constantly ask him to repeat what was said. He is a nice guy that is passionate about biology but doesn't help my learning style.
Kielb is a pretty funny guy. Bio 330 is hard regardless of the teacher, but Kielb has a way of making it interesting. Grades weren't too bad, just make sure you study the notes and look at the pictures in the book. Would take his class over Mast's class.
I love love love kielb although his class is tough he makes lectures fun and explains them well but he could explain them a little better ! Also sometimes he will tell you to study something that won't show up on test. All you have to do is study and read your book and go over your notes you'll easily get a b or a . Loved this class with kielb
Third semester taking him. Super awesome teacher. Really funny. Highly recommended.
Very good teacher, for a difficult class. Don't expect it to be easy if you are new to the subject. Study and take advantage of the clicker points, they help a ton. I would recommend him.
Very smart teacher, and generous grader. He is available for his office hours anytime he is not lecturing. He is sometimes unclear about what you will be tested on because he wants you to learn everything. Great teacher, just don't fall behind! It is study intensive.
He is a nice guy, knows his stuff. Likes to go off on tangents during lecture though. hard material, need to study. Tests are tough. He's a over to cover guy. Straight A student, studied for 6 days straight for my final and got the same grade I did on every other test. In 252 with Rae now, feel like I missed out on a lot. I'd recommend Rae.
This class is difficult, no matter where taken. He helps to make the class a bit easier to understand. Attend classes, as there are clicker points. The textbook, clicker, and code are necessary, but you do not need the lab manual or the flashcards, those are just helpful tools. Visit his office hours for help early on!
Professor Kielb is a good professor, you must attend class as there are clicker questions! He enjoys what he teaches. In order to keep up and get the grade you want I suggests to read ahead and print out the slides before hand!
Kielb teaches by diagrams. Learn them and love them. I started recording lectures towards the middle of the semester and found that it helped a lot because there's no text on his powerpoints. Show up to class for clicker points which roll over into extra credit. He'll help you but you have to make a point to see him.
Kielb knows what he's talking about, just you don't learn much from his lectures. He goes off on tangents often so you don't learn much. Attendance is mandatory because you have clicker questions and if you miss class you loose them. Be ready to teach yourself outside of class. Hardest class I've ever taken, be prepared for it to consume your life
Very enthusiastic about the topic (sex & gender). He gets off topic veryyyyyy easily, however, it makes the class more interesting.
So this class is hard. Anatomy part 1. But Kielb is a great Professor. He gives extra credit out almost all the time. And if you make a name for your self and go and meet with him in his office hours he is very polite about grading. His class is based on Lab and exams and clicker points. Attendance is how you receive clicker points. Its easy.
Kielb knows what he is talking about. On some occasions he will get off topic, but will usually get back on track. This class is test based. The textbook is not necessary if you are willing to search online and do a little bit of work to find reliable information to study off of. You will need APR and the clicker though.
Kielb was a good professor. Class is not mandatory but I garantee if you do not go, you will not pass. I studied on average about 20 hours for exams and earned a B. Must work for your grade.
He keeps lectures very interesting and is very personable. This class, however is extremely hard and will take a lot of study. Met with him when I first started struggling and he sat down with me and worked out a plan that included coming to his office hours. Gets side tracked A LOT though.
Note-taking helps but honestly your best bet is to read the textbook because the exams and the lectures cover the same material but not necessarily the same details. Diagrams in the tests are not the same as book and lecture diagrams so understand, don't just memorize. Funny guy personally, please laugh at his jokes I felt bad when it was awkward.
Biology of Sex & Gender could be very dry sometimes, even when speaking out knowledgable subjects. Kielb sometimes would make it interesting with a comedic commentary. The class is based off of four exams, you don't have to study very hard to pull a B.
Kielb knows his stuff. BIO 251 is not an easy course, you certainly have to work for your grade. If you stay on top of material, come to lecture for the clicker questions, and most importantly, study hard for lab quizzes and practicals, you will pass. There is opportunity for extra credit with clicker questions, and he is happy to help you out.
Kielb is really knowledgeable. The course is intense, but that's just because of the material. Be prepared to be studying and reading every single day.
does not give accurate syllabus no direction on what is going to be covered or what test is on., doesn't follow it. Lab is same not organized, told test on page 1-100 know it for next week.
Goes very off topic all the time. Ends class 30 minutes early most of the time when we still have plenty more we could be going over. Tells you one thing is on tests and to focus on it and it doesn't end up being on the test. Only positive thing is you get A LOT of extra credit.
Professor Kielb was great. Although his teaching style is unlike most, he will go out of his way to make sure you succeed. If you don't go see him, he won't know that you're struggling so make an effort to go see him! Kielb offers tons of extra credit through clicker questions, so make sure you attend class everyday.
Kielb is by far my favorite professor I have had in my 2.5 years of college. He's funny & he cares about his students. He is very accessible outside of class & is willing to help anyone who asks for it. You'll need the textbook for this class and you'll need to be able to put in at least 15 hours of studying outside of class to understand material.
Kielb is a great professor, his exams are pretty moderate. I like the way he sets them up, a lot of it is labeling. He is very approachable, and wants you to succeed. You do have to study hard, but if you put in the work you'll do fine.
If you think that this class is easy, you are in for a rude awakening. This class is not supposed to be easy. But, if you read the chapters, take notes, and GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS you will be ok. Kielb is funny and very caring. BIO 251 was a lot of fun and I really enjoy his lectures, I never dozed off because they are entertaining.
His teaching style is more casual, so if you like to copy down notes, don't count on doing well. He just shows pictures and diagrams and tells random stories. It personally didn't help me in the slightest and I taught myself most of the material, but if you like a image-heavy lecture and learn from someone just talking at you it'll be fine.
Kielb was very knowledgeable and somewhat understanding. The class is very difficult and so are the exams. Every lecture matters and the textbook is a must.
Kielb is a good professor, but sometimes you didn't know what was expected from you in class. Lecture exams could be tricky, but if you study and read the textbook you will be okay.
Kielb is funny and interesting, but not that great of a professor. He basically just reads off the slides and tells you personal medical stories and then at the end of class tells you to read the textbook to prepare for the tests. He has office hours if you need help but don't expect to get a response by email usually. This class hard but doable!
Kielb is nice and explain the lecture clearly and funny, interesting. He is very approachable, and wants you to succeed.
