Mr. Kirby is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had. He helped me discover that math could be easy. He thourghly explains everything and is willing to go out of his way to help. Not to mention he has a great sense of humor.

If you think you can't do math, this guy will show you how wrong you are. I haven't seen any math teacher who could put difficult concepts in layman's terms as well as he does. You will have fun, learn, and see mathematics in a whole new light.

The first week he acts like a "real jerk" but he's just trying to FOOL YOU so you will drop his class. I almost did, but lucky me I stayed. This professor is Terrific! You wont fall asleep with his constant jokes. He doesn't keep attendance but i suggest you show up. 5 Tests are graded for 20% each.

Wonderful professor! I am horrid in math, but took him for MTH 03 and passed with an A! He is sarcastic and crude at times, but its all in good fun. He is challenging and always wants you to feel comfortable. Take this professor!

I’m mathematically dyslexic and this guy helped me tremendously! His tests are very fair and he gives quizzes to prepare your for them. If you're bad at math and are willing to study, take Kirby---you’ll pass!

This was my 1st class with Kirby, so this was the first dose I got of his "attitude", and he's really not that bad. You just have to go into his class with a sense of humor. If you take everything seriously- yes, you will get spun up. But he's an amazing teacher, there's no way around that.

He's really good. I didn't even do homework, all I do is study the study guides he gives you. More than half of the quizes are either take home or open notes. He doesn't like slackers. His favorite word to use whenever he does problems is "blob" Easy class, study the study guide he gives you!!!

He do not rush thru the assignments. He make sure everyone get a good understanding before he moves on. He also has an SI ( if you are struggling in this subject the SI will be in the math lab at an certain hour to help you).

i still move my calculus textbook with me from town to town, although i have never found any good use for it, other than to remind me of a very good learning experience.

I had taken this course prior to attend professor kirby's class, and I was totally lost. Once I attended professor kirby's class the light came on. He is and outstanding professor and will take the time to explain the course work every step of the way.

If you really want to learn take him. It's not easy. You have a quiz almost every class. Homework isn't mandatory but to learn you need to do it. If you understand everything you will do fine. Grades are just on quizzes and tests.

Mr. Kirby is a very clear teacher-he will give you step-by-step instructions on how to solve a problem. He is very sarcastic/funny, but will call you out for anything-joking or not. If you have a problem with attendance-tardies or absences, he will definitely call you out in an innappropriate time. Overall, I'd take him again!!

Great guy! I had him for Mth 03 & 04 and will take him for 163. I love his class, he makes it fun and interesting. He gives small quizzes daily which is great because it gives you plenty of chances to pull your grades up. He is very fair and always willing to give extra help. If you do your homework and the exercises he gives you will do great.

"Grandpa" is one, if not the best mth prof out there for any mth, I am doing the 8 week course to get both out the way this semester, if you are serious about understanding and learning mth then he is the prof for u, cause he "cares about the children", very fair, do your homework and any worksheets and you will not only pass, but know it as well.

I took him for 04 and 158, SUPER easy. He makes jokes a lot, and usually at students, but it's nothing big, it keeps me awake. He's very helpful and knows math like he knows the back of his perdone bottle. I completely recommend him and wished he taught 240.

One of the best math professors at TCC... i took math three two times before i took it with kirby. and i passed. in only 8 weeks.. then i followed it up with his math 04 class in the second 8 weeks and in the spring's first 8 weeks i passed 158 with an A. quite an acomplishment for someone who hates math...if you hate math The Kirbinator is for you

In my opinion, the BEST teacher at TCC! I know many students who hated him, but not me. He explains everything step-by-step and makes it so easy to understand. I was using my MATH 4 notes for MTH158! I was exempt from the final because I ended up having more points than he was counting. He tries to come off as mean, but he really isn't.

Mr. Kirby is a wonderful professor and very gifted where teaching is concerned. Prior to taking him, I failed this class three times with three different teachers. His teaching style is efficient and effective. His disposition is a bit odd, but teaching-wise, phenomenal. Homework assigned, not graded and tests are moderate in ease if studied for.

We never used our book in class, although he did assign homework from it. He gave great notes and lots of pr@ctice. overall he was pretty good

He was clear on what he was teaching.he gave study guides on test, test weren't hard. a quiz everyday-easy! its a stress free 8 week class! take him, it doesnt matter if your good or bad in math, you will learn and understand this course if you have it with him.

I took Kirby in the spring and he was a great professor. He tried to make jokes, but they we NOT funny. He explained everything very well and I took more notes in this class then in any math class in my life!!!

Mr. Kirby is a very laidback teacher. He takes notes on the board and does not use the textbook. He gives quizzes right when you come in, and if you ask questions he will answer. I reccommend taking him for any math class.

He is a GREAT teacher. He has funny storys to tell and whenever you have any problems he is so easy to talk to and helps you. He usaully does notes on the board some examples and ask after to see if everyone understand. he gives worksheets out at end of class for homewok but most of the time you do it in class and can ask class mates and him ?'s.

Mr. Kirby is a great professor, who means business in class, after all, students go to class to learn. He breaks down concepts in ways that students can easily understand. I am not a math person, but taking Mr. Kirby's class was beneficial. You get value for money. He uses worksheets and provides instructional material through his571 notes.

MR. Kerby: I s a great math professor! He is clear and helpful. I had him for Calculus I and II in the spring and summer of 2005. A fair grader and good worked examples that make a difference.

Humor can be offensive to some (be warned), but mostly done to bond with class & keep ppl awake. Teaching is actually above-avg. in terms of making things intuitive to grasp. Better than most profs. Very fair grader. Would take again. (Only tiny negative was a quiz problem one time that he didn't go over how to do in class, but that's it.)

THE BEST MATH PROFESSOR AT TCC. I had him for MTH 163 and MTH 270. He makes difficult concepts easy to understand and is probably one of the coolest lectures at TCC. Words cannot describe how great of a professor Mr. Kirby is. You learn how to do the math, but he makes it seem so simple. No book required. Drops lowest quiz grades. THE BEST!

He is an AWESOME teacher. Explains everything step by step and is always willing to help. Gives morning quizzed every single class so you CANNOT be late or it will effect you. All around great teacher, I've had him for TH 158, 163 and just signed up for 270 for him.

I have math anxiety and he taught in a way I could easily understand. Quizzes at the beginning of class reinforce material from the previous class. Do the worksheets, don't miss, don't be late and you'll be fine. Didn't need a book. Tests on what he teaches. Twisted humor, but funny imo. Fair grader, upfront with expectations. Wish he taught Stat!

I took this as an 8 week course. As long as you do all the paper work given to you and come to class you should pass easily. If you have any questions come to class early and he will gladly answer them. If you get butt hurt easily don't take him. He has a great sense of humor that makes the class less boring.

Note taking is crucial, along with doing doing homework for your own benefit. Don't miss class and don't be late either. There is a daily quiz. Yes, there are quizzes at the beginning of each class and your hand will hurt from the notes but there is no assigned HW and he drops 2 lowest quiz grades and doesn't require textbook. He is funny AND will ssay dumb stuff and start speaking is his native language. Be aware to take a quiz every class as soon as it starts you only have 10 minutes. Take down notes it will help you on your quiz for the next days and tests.

Mr Kirby is hilarious and can teach anyone to do math!! Use a spate notebook and just write down everything he does on the board and its your entire lecture for notes!! Kirby is a fantastic teacher. He's very arrogant and he knows it, says it himself. "His way is THE way."ru He's right though. Clear way of teaching and very funny with it. I took his 8week Pre-Calc course. He definitely teaches in his own way without a book, which is ALOT better. I sucked at math in HS but his way of teaching led me to an A+. His daily quizzes and 4 tests are almost identical to the worksheets/reviewsheets he gives you. He is sarcastic, but HILARIOUS. I wish he taught all math classes. TAKE HIM!!!!!

Professor Kirby is an exceptional instructor. He's enthusiastic, caring, funny, and engaging. His method of teaching forces you to stay on top of the material, and it is very doable. Take him for calculus! If you attend every class, pay attention, and study his daily handouts, you will do fine.

He makes Calculus easy. There are quizzes the first 10 minutes of EVERY class so you can't afford to miss class. There are 4 tests and he gives you a study guide that is very similar. Just do the study guide then go over it right before the test and you should have no problem. If you need 270 he's who you should take.

The funniest professor I have ever had. You have to take his class. I took pre-calc the first eight weeks and 270 the second. He really knows how to break it down. He also seems mean at the beginning but trust me this guy really looks out for students. Copy what he puts on the board, study it and do the daily quizzes(2 questions)you'll pass

I took a fast paced 8 week class and was very intimidated the first day but he was great, very straight forward and makes sure there is no confusion. He always says the grade you get is the grade you earn which is very true, he gives time in class to work on homework which gives you time to ask questions if you're unsure on anything.

Professor Kirby is a great Math teacher. He definetly knows what he is doing. You don't need book or online practices. The ways he teachs is really easy to understand. Everything you need to do is follow his instruction. He is nice and funny. He usually say "THE GRADE YOU GET IS THE GRADE YOU EARN". So, you are better be ready to study.

Absolutely love Professor Kirby. Just a caution if you are sensitive I wouldn't suggest you take his class, he has a blunt in your face sense of humor. Other than that he is great at what he does. Make sue you show up to class on time for the quizzes and do the homework even though its not graded. He does drop two lowest quizzes.

Precalculus was the first college class I've ever taken and I've been out of high school for 8 years. I took an 8 week class over the summer and had no issues maintaining an A throughout. He is amazing at what he does and breaks things down. Do the math his way and you'll have no problems. DO YOUR HOMEWORK, you won't regret it. He's funny too.

I failed college algebra at ODU twice, i have previously failed precalculus at TCC. YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS IN THE WORLD BY NOT TAKING THIS CLASS, this man teaches straight from his knowledge and doesn't rely on the textbook to teach like so many professors do. IF you pay attention and do the work you will receive an A.

The 8-week course can sound daunting, but Mr. Kirby is phenomenal. He doesn't use a book & teaches from his brain. He is willing to work with you if you work with him. He is a great teacher! When taking this class you need to do the worksheet because even though he is not grading them, you will find similar problems on your tests. Because of COVID 19 my class was switched to online but from experience with him in another class, you will have quizzes but just do the worksheets and you will do fine and he drops 1.

Everything is written out clearly and if you have any questions he respond maybe an hour later. Otherwise hes perfect

Took Precalc II online with him, very blunt and makes you work for your grade. Although his quizzes were very similar to the homework (which isn't graded), he throws in problems on the test that he didn't go over very well in class and says after that we "need to make sense of it." He is also always available during office hours which helped

His work hours did come in handy. If I had to choose between 2 bad teachers Id choose him. Hes not my first, second, or third choice, but hes alright. Chemistry major, so I need to learn a LOT of math.

Kirby tells dirty jokes (some PG-13). I do like his teaching. Daily quizzes based off homework and notes. Drops 2 lowest quizzes. Show up to class, take good notes. Wears Birkenstocks (Math Jesus!) If he can turn math into a fun subject, he turned me from hating math to liking it. For tests, study HW, notes, quizzes. #teamkirby4life

Had Kirby for a Zoom class. Quizzes and Tests are straight from the homework. If you don't do the homework and dedicate the time you won't pass. He is sarcastic, but who cares, he was a great teacher! I get nervous when it comes to math, but he eased those fears. My advice is to ask a lot of questions, do homework, and you will pass.

Excellent teacher, makes learning very easy. There is a quiz at the start of each class and you are required to have your camera on for the duration of the quiz.

Kirbanator is the funniest guy I have met! Loves teaching, and a very sarcastic guy. Gives daily quizzes, but if you study your HW, Notes, and practice outside of class, you should have 0 problem (Youtube Khan A ) "The grade you get is the grade you earn." If starting off at math, he will make it fun, not dreaded. Tests are reasonable, just study!

Was unsure the first week or so but honestly Mr. Kirby really grew on me. Hes a funny guy, if you understand his humor. Pretty chill class, homework every day but he doesnt check it so its on you to do it. Short quizzes at the start of every class, based on hw and notes. No final test just unit tests. He drops your 2 lowest quiz grades.

Knows his stuff but not considerate when it comes to life circumstances going on. He was a good teacher but I would not take him again for that reason, and other reasons.

Professor Kirby has been my favorite teacher of all time. He teaches from the heart. If you are a hard worker and participate you will do well. He makes learning fun with his witty sense of humor and passion for mathematics. His motto is "the grade you get is the grade you've earned", but he is always around to help students. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

Loved the course! Explains everything very well, step-by-step. I never really liked math but with Mr. Kirby I was excited every class! Quizzes every class, but they are easy. If you working hard, you succeed. Take this course!

Prof Kirby is knowledgeable and helpful; however, he's a hard grader. I had him Mon & Wed, which was fine, but my only complaint is that he quizzed us on wed for things we learned on Monday. I would have done better if he quizzed us once a week on the previous week's materials but ig i still did okay. He was excellent but quite difficult to ace.

He makes learning Calculus as straightforward as it gets. He doesn't grade homework, but it is important to do it anyway because the quizzes and tests are exactly like them. He doesn't offer makeups, but he is fair in other instances. As long as you pay attention, take notes, and ask questions, then you'll make it out with at least a B.

Kirby made math seem like it was one of the easiest subjects ever. He is very specific when lecturing and dumbs down the difficult criteria. It made applied calc so much easier to understand. Quizzes every class but they're literally only at most 2 questions and sometimes one question. The tests are easy, the quizzes are easy. Just keep up.

Kirby is the best math teacher I have ever had! I took his class because RMP reviews said he was Math Jesus, and he is! He makes math simple and understandable! Quizzes every class, do the homework and you should be fine! He is absolutely hilarious and I am excited to be taking MTH 162 with him next semester!

Mr Kirby is truly a sweer professor. He complains about how old he is and he will never show his face on camera because of it. He is a picky grader. I took his class online and every test and quiz he wants to see your face and hands with a blank piece of paper. He hates cheaters.

His Classes (161, 162) is the easiest out of all Subjects I've attended. Take the 1 Class per Week. You'll mostly be doing a Quiz (2-4 Questions) every Class; attendance (turn on your Camera). Do the Homework as it'll make your life much easier when doing the Quizzes/4 Tests. You can literally rest after doing the Quiz/Test, which is what I do.

Prof. Kirby is one of the funniest people I have ever had the pleasure of calling my teacher. He breaks complex concepts down to an easy to understand manner. Anything he writes on the board is 100% useful to you so don't slack on your notes. Homework is optional, however I do recommend doing it anyway it will help you understand everything easily.

I took Professor Kirby's compressed 7-week night class. Expect to stay for the full amount of time every class. Be on time because there is a quiz at the beginning of every class. Homework is not graded so you have to understand it on your own. It is great if you need a review course but it's very fast-paced if you don't know any of it.

I can only speak for the 7-week course but Mr. Kirby is an amazing professor when it comes to actually teaching the material. He explains it very well and is easily understandable. He only grades quizzes and tests, so homework is only for you to study with. That being said since it was a 7-week course, it was very fast paced.

This is my 2nd time taking Mr. Kirby's class after MTH161. I can say that Mr.Kirby is consistent with his classes. If you are soft and get offended easily please do not take this class. Mr. Kirby is an amazing professor and explains the material thoroughly and is easily understandable. It is up to you to study since he doesn't grade homework.

Professor Kirby's class is a mixed bag - he explains concepts well but can be tough. Quizzes every class, so staying on top of the material is key. Unstuckstudy was handy for quick practice problems.

Mr. Kirby is one of those professors that come off scary at first but it takes time to warm up to him. He has a pretty crude sense of humor and is straight forward with assignments. Only grades are quizzes and tests so you need to make sure you know the material and if you genuinely need help, he will be there for you.

Professor Kirby is the best Math teacher I've ever has in my life. If you take note by copying what he writes on the board throughout class, you'll pass. He has a short quiz at the beginning of every class but they are typically 2 or 3 questions long. His class is very straightforward and easy to understand. Your grade is really left up to you.

DNT expect him to sit & do the work 4 u! As he likes to say, The Grade you get is the grade you EARN! If u can't handle a joke are too sensitive, soft, or gets offended easily u shouldn't be at school The World is harsh! please do not enroll and waste his time. 100% recommend this class. Lectures are straightforward and very easy to follow. Every class has a short quiz at the beginning about the previous lecture/HW. The HW is not required for a grade, but it is necessary to stay on track. We were also given the last 20-30 minutes of class to do the HW, ask questions, or leave.

There is not enough praise in the world that I could give The Kirbinator. DO THE HW and quizzes and no not give up when there is hard material. Mr. Kirby is one of the funniest, most hilarious professors you could have, possibly the BEST at TCC VB. He made me love math again and believe that I was always smart enough to do the hard work. -BV

Mr. Kirby is very cool!! He made me love math, and the quizzes and tests were very nice. Just make sure you do the homework and do it over and over again before the quiz and the test. Make sure you take notes!!!!

Really good! He goes over the material very well. Just do not be late for class and make sure everything(!!!) is prepared and ready before the quizzes. He really wants participation and for others to do well.

Michael Kirby is an old, sarcastic guy, but I'd be wrong to say he didn't make PreCalculus the easiest class on my schedule. At first he's a little scary, but he's actually quite nice and is hilarious, just make sure you are on time to class (maybe even 5 minutes early) and that you practiced the HW (does not grade). No extra credit or retakes!

Mr. Kirby is an old-school professor who can come off as very intimidating and abrupt at first, but as class goes on, you will find he's quite funny and honest. Take notes from his lectures, and complete the homework sheets; it will pay off on the quizzes and tests. Prepare for quizzes every morning of class; they are short and straightforward.
