When he teaches he assumes that we all know what he is talking about when most of the time we don't! He is difficult to follow and his notes are the same way. You have to print the notes out before class every week and we have a quiz every week. His test are VERY HARD! They are 28- 30 multiple choice questions and 3 problems last.
Professor Lacina's class is very challenging and he expects alot from his students. He is very clear about what he wants and is very helpful and fair. Definitely better than Isleib.
TEACHER GIVES 3 TESTS AND A QUIZ EVERYTIME THE CLASS MEETS. IF HE SEES YOU TRY HE WILL CONSIDER PASSING YOU. HE CURVES!!!!!!!
Tests are extremely hard !!! Attend class ! If he sees that you are trying he is more than willing to help you pass. Much better than Isleib - MUCH MUCH BETTER !!!
Class is very straightforward. Do the homework and you will be ready for the quizzes and exams. He will indicate what homework will be key for the quizzes and exams. Do not expect to pick up your book a day before the exam and pass.
His test are extremely difficult but he willing to help you if you try
Class is very hard. He lectures the whole time from his notes. He does curve, and will probably pass you if you attend every class, even if you're not passing!!!
His test are so hard and his lectures are so boring they are hard to sit through. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO PASS.
GREAT PROFESSOR- IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE SUBJECT MATTER (AND WANT MORE THAN JUST A RUBBER-STAMP GRADE), I HIGHLY RECOMMEND LACINA. HE REALLY KNOWS HIS STUFF, AND HE IS REALLY WAY TOO NICE AND PERSONABLE TO BE TAGGED AS JUST AN "ACCOUNTANT".
Tests will give you a run for your money; however, he curves off the chart. You have to study but he will tell you which application questions are on the test if you ask. Nice guy really!
This is a difficult class. Professor Lacina made it as easy as he possibly could without loosing the purpose of this course. This class is designed to make or break you, and it definately does. Lacina gives plenty of examples, homework suggetions and quizzes to help master the coursework. He is extremely helpful and gives good notes.
He is a good teacher. He is not an easy A.He WILL teach the subject matter.Do the homework, dont miss class or leave early, study the outline and make notes and you will do well.Make sure you fully understand fundementals before entering this class. This is INTERMEDIATE accounting. He expects you to do your part to learn.
He's a great professor!
We really love the way he teaches us. Everything is clear and persuasive.
Really boring and hard. Dont take this class if you care about your grades.
Lots of material covered. In order to do well you need to attend every class, read each chapter, do homework, and attend review sessions. I believe anyone can do well, you just have to actually try. I DEFINITELY reccomend the Study Guide! Material may be overwhelming at times, but just relax, and set aside enough time to read the book and do the
Although I made an A I had to work very hard to get the grade. He does have big curves for his tests because the tests are difficult. Overall he is an OK teacher. He is willing to help you though if you have problems.
Really horrible and boring man. I believe he has posted all these nice comments for himself here. There is something underhand and silly about this man. He claims to be a CPA but if he was really that qualified why would he be teaching at UHCL instead of earning pots of money ? I am sure he was KICKED our of other jobs so had nowhere to go! Ha!Ha!
COVERS ALOT OF MATERIAL AND DOESN'T BELIEVE IN REVIEWING OR FOCUSING U FOR HIS TESTS. THIS CLASS REQUIRES ALOT OF TIME, STUDYING AND PRAYING.
Decent Professor, teaches from his notes, which are only guidelines though.Sticks to the syllabus.Overall good.
Very stupid professor. Just reads his notes in class. VERY BORING classes. Expects you to attend ALL classes and EXTRA CLASSES although the classes are no good for the exams. Really complicates the subject matter. Speaks in a MONOTONE. Brings articles from business mags to class. NO ONE Has time for them though. JUST SHOWS OFF. DON'T take him.
Really really horrible professor. Hell bent on giving you a C. Shows off in class. Very boring classes and useless notes. This man is the epitome of the typical book-keeper, boring, monotonous, avancular and hard. No creativity in him at all but plenty of attitude. DO NOT take him if you can help it.
One of the worst and most useless professors at UHCL. Really unclear stupid notes and horrible monotonous voice. Very stupid man. Hard and irrelevant exams. Dont take him if you want to maintain your GPA.
Useless to attend class since you are thinking of the quiz (each class) at half time. And after the quiz, it is hard to sit thorough the boring and dull class since you are not listening anyway. So this man needs to just teach online and should limith the f-to-f class to 15 minutes of quiz or exams. Waste of time to sit in class. NOT Recommended.
UGH!! Don't fall behind!!! Class is difficult, but as far as profs go, he's not too bad.
study the first 5 weeks like they r ur last! after that, its a piece of cake. memorize formats of all problems and you should be fine! made a b+ myself and didnt think it was too bad. do all the homework problems. his teaching style does make it easier for your other classes. if you can pass his class.then everything else will be easier. good prof!
I thought he was a great teacher. If you read the chapter as recommended and do the related problems, you will do very well. He gives a curve and very nice partial credit. He give six quizzes and drops the two lowest. This can really help your grade in the end. His test are tough, but not impossible. I would highly recomend him to anyone.
This guy really knows his stuff and has the notes prepared for class. You will not pass this classes if you dont study. He will give you everything you need to know on the test but you gotta know how to do it.
Stay with his examples and homework problems. I am not saying you'll see the sam questions on the exam, but you'll get helpful idea what you'll see on the exam.
Do all homework problems and you will do fine. Read the chapters before class if you want to understand the lectures.
I think it is better to take him during the summer mini. He lectures and notes seem to match more and have more examples. Go to his review sessions because the problems that he goes over are the ones on the test. In order to get an A in his class, you must do the assigned readings and homework problems. Great teacher!
great prof., must do work, all of it, and attend every class.
I don't know why anyone would recommend this teacher for any class especially accounting. He doesn't teach at all. He just reads printed material off the overhead and works some problems out of the book. His tests are lousy and difficult with several questions not covered in his lectures. He even ranks participation unfairly.
Good teacher. Always sticks to syllabus and types up notes for you. Do ALL the homework problems, over and over if you have to. Study hard and you'll make an A. Multiple choice questions are tricky but not impossible.
definitely not an easy class, too many quizzes, the class is very organized, notes definitely help with the class but you have to study really hard.
Excellent Professor. You do need to know the basics of accounting to make it in this class. He is a great guy and probably one of the best professors I have had at UHCL. Quizzes help even though they are every week.
Prof. Lacina knows his stuff. He tells you the first day that this is the hardest accounting class you will ever take, but if you keep up with your reading and do the problems and attend class, you should have no problems making an A.
From the first day, it's clear that this is not an easy class. Very important to do well on each quiz and to do the homework. Participation is key. You will spend countless hours outside of class studying. However, not impossible to make an A, just keep on top of the material.
Very difficult class. From the first day it is assumed that you have mastered the concepts from Principles 1 & 2. If your prior knowledge is weak you'd better do some outside work or get left behind. If you're serious about learning Accounting this is the one to take, the challenge makes earning that A very satisfying.
Excellent Professor, the class is hard, but he is effective in his explanations, and he provides the notes, so that you can focus on the instruction and questions you may have. He works problems, then has us work them in class and goes over them to make sure everyone understands what they are doing. Highly recommend this Professor.
This class was a very hard class. Must attend and must do homework. There are quizzes every class and the tests are extremely hard. I would not take him again or recommend him to anyone.
Very hard class designed to be the weed-out course. The instructor dont make things easier for you either. His quizes are ok but exams are very Hard. Unless you are someone smart you will either not pass the course or get a passing grade. This course is designed to make you drop accounting. BEWARE and study hard like your life depends on it.
Excellent professor. Material is difficult, but if you stay on track with the quizzes and study the material he lays out you will do just fine! His class is a walk in the park compared to Isleib in Intermediate II. Isleib's whole review is something to the effect of "test is going to be over chapters 12-15. Make sure you study." Lacina is great
This material is somewhat dificult. He post all his notes so you can concentrate on the lecture. There are quizes every week to motivate you to keep up with the material and the tests are no suprise, but could cover anything in the chapter. Pretty much; if you keep up with the homework and go to class you should do fine. he's a good teacher.
Horrible teacher. Very difficult to understand his teaching style. Even when I can understand the homework, he loses me in the lecture. He teaches a different way than what is in the book, and if asked to explain he looks at you like you are stupid for not understanding the first time. He gives test reviews outside of class time, which is very hard
I'm sure a lot of people had trouble this semester. I had no problem passing this course, I didn't get an A though. I believe I could've put more effort into it but I was studying for about 2 hours a week for this class. The test are multiple choice with a few problems. Quizzes every week. HE CURVES LIKE A MADMAN. Great Prof. overall.
I came to college after 15 years and was totally out of my league in the first month or so of my class. The instructor was very helpful and because of his constant encouragement I eventually suceeded in the class while I thought about dropping the course many times. His class is not easy but pay attention to his lectures, notes,h/w you will do well
The key to his class is to pay special attention to his lecture notes especially the homework problem done in class, attend his reviews and the quizes he gives. If you do that the exam wont surprise you much though he is know to throw a curve-ball or two. His Final is CUMLATIVE regardless of what he says but he does curve in the end.
Really good teacher who seems to care about the students. He is not an easy A, but if you pass his class it is because you learned something. I would recommend his class to anyone and I will take intermediate acct II with him if I can. His class has been a breath of fresh air, especially comparing with all of these other acct teachers here at UHCL.
this class sucks!!!!!!! he is a terrible teacher and expects us to all be CPAs. Save your money time and sanity. stay away from him for the sake of your life
A great teacher! I will miss his class...very enjoyable...
Great teacher, definately a professor who should be the model for other bus/acct professors at UHCL. Went through problems in class, gave sample exams, a quiz almost every night in semester. After leaving this class you def learned a lot about acct, but still have to read book, notes and handouts.
He is a good professor who take seriously in teaching. It is my pleasure to have him taught me.
Great teacher. He writes his own notes/test/quizzes. He goes through problems in class, gave sample exams, a quiz almost every class. Read the notes, study hmwk problems and quizzes.
Prof Lacina is a very responsible teacher. I always learn a lot from his classes.
If you are thinking about taking ACCT 3332 online, i wouldnt recommend it, his teaching style is way too technical and his exams are way to hard to try and teach your self the curriculum. He is VERY helpful if you need him, he curves the tests if need be, but even so, the class was a night mare for me.
1st...i took class cuz it was the ONLY class open...so I had ZERO interest in it. I hate accounting. Do not take this class online if you need feedback...as in which questions did I miss on quiz/test....only way to get that is by seeing prof during office hours. That said...if you study REALLY REALLY Hard you will probably make a B. He curves.
Difficult class because there's a ton of material to learn in short amount of time(you're expected to MASTER all of it).If he taught another subject he'd deduct pts for not dotting an i or crossing a t.Quiz every night, tests aren't like review, he's helpful, curves like crazy(made 80 on exam, curved to an A),his jokes are funny, will stay 3 hours.
If your aspirations include being a CPA, then he is your guy. You WILL dot every I and cross every T, or you will fail. Personally, I am a finance major that wanted to expand my horizons in ACCT and this prof was a huge mistake. Will take a different prof for ACCT3432. Tests are exorbitantly hard and answers are hidden in the chapters.
Not an easy class. I studied every weekend to prepare for quiz or test. You have a quiz just about every class. He is a great professor and knows his material. If you study, you will do fine in the class.
I know that his teaching style suites me well from the first class. He seems has a passion for teaching. He presents the topic in a very clear way, always to the point with sufficient details. I learn the most from his classes.
Difficult
He's a devoted teacher. I made a very good decision when choosing his class, and of course a lot of work to do but all these will bring you a very background of accounting!
This teacher clearly knows what he is talking about and is more than qualified for his degree, but his classes are incredibly hard. I spent all my time studying for his class and doing homework. I didn't have any life and I still had to drop it due to my grades. Only take his class if you are a wiz at accounting.
Dr. Lacina is a great teacher who knows his stuff. This class is very difficult, but he is fair. Those who try will succeed, and he curves. Reading the chapter before class and doing the homework (after) are crucial. Prior to tests, redo the homework as many times as necessary. Repetition is key to remembering. An available SI is also very helpful.
In my class, he forced participation. I'm very shy and I don't like being called on if I don't raise my hand. If I answered incorrectly he made me feel very stupid. The man is very intelligent, but he does not have a teacher's heart! Unless maybe it's in his briefcase.
The class is hard, but his notes and lectures, along with the suggested problems for "homework" are very helpful. I feel like I got a very good basis in financial accounting, and am planning on taking him in the fall for Intermediate 2. Highly suggest taking him, but be prepared to work, and work hard, for your grade.
Very difficult class. You have to work extra hard to earn your grade. I dropped his class because I couldn't keep up. Very brilliant professor. He knows his stuff, but I wouldn't recommend taking his class if you struggle with accounting.
Professor is very dry, but knows his stuff. If you're going to take this class, make sure you attend. He covers lots of material very quickly. Homework questions are not graded, but make sure you do them for practice. Test questions are very detailed.
He tries to trick you on quizzes and test. I wouldn't take him again for anything. He doesn't really explain how to get the answers. He just puts it on the board. He's a nice prof. but its a hard class.
Would not recommend this class unless you have a better understanding of Accounting. Really sucks that all your classes are based on this course. REALLY take advantage of SI sessions and tutor to get through this course. Would recommend taking Dr. Wu over him.
Professor is really dry, ended up falling asleep a lot in class due to it being at nite. Somewhat teaches like you've done accounting for 20yrs. Even with SI sessions and tutoring I couldn't salvage my grade. I'd go with Professor Wu instead.
Lacina is a very good professor but his class is NOT easy. He can come off as dry but he wants us to get our "money's worth" out of his class. Dropped his class the first time I took him because I was being lazy but I took his class again and got a B (after curve). It was the hardest class I took in college but the one I learned the most in.
His exams are very detailed and ask tricky questions. You must cover all homeworks and read the book. Very difficult class.
Int Acct 1 is no joke, but he is really thorough. The exams are a lot harder than the homework, but if you read, study and practice then you should do well. Expect to put some real time into the class just to pass. This is NOT a show up and get an A class. If you have questions, ask them, he doesn't mind.
Financial Reporting & Analysis was a difficult class for me. Notes provided was a waste of time. You HAVE TO read the book and do practice problems. I took this class online and there are only TWO exams. Not a class you can slack off in. No review given besides a practice test that's barely similar to the actual test.
one of the best professors of us universities, a very discipline, dedicated & excellent professor. he allways try the best to teach and explain his students to understand all accounting lessons and difficult accounting matters. you must study hard to pass his class otherwise !!!
one of my favorite professors of UHCL, a very disciplined, dedicated & excellent professor. He always be on time, try the best to teach and explain his students. Although there are quizzes almost every week and the final is cumulative, you must attend every class n work hard to get good grades
Difficult professor but you will learn a lot. Reading the textbook is essential as well as doing the recommended homework. Intermediate accounting i is definitely one of the harder courses in the degree plan.
Easily the worst professor I've seen. The class was a 50/50 online/lecture, but he didn't lecture and instead just solved HW problems in front of us. If you have no accounting experience this course is basically impossible. I've done poorly before in some classes, but this is the first time it felt like there was nothing I could do to pass.
He is dry. I know, he's an accountant, but still. Gives a warning for quizzes which are only a few problems. Goes over some homework in class. Final is accumulative.
Took this class online, but a TA (Celine Siewert) actually taught it. I really enjoyed the class. Yes, there is a lot of reading, but that's expected from a graduate course.
Reads off his class notes posted on BB. Read the chapter and class notes before going to class for a better understanding of the material. Tough but fair.
I have never had a teacher care so little about his students. I would never take this teacher again. I took him for Cost Acct. and let me tell you, I never knew what he was doing no matter how much I tried to follow. If you dont know accounting to its fullest, DO NOT take this teacher. Avoid at all costs.
Class is hard and professor doesn't explain material well.
Ive been told that this is by far one of the hardest courses in the Accounting program, and wow that wasnt an over-exaggeration. The professor himself seems to be a nice guy who's passionate in what he does. His teaching methods are perfectly fine, but his tests are insanely difficult. You have to REALLY understand the subject to get a good grade.
Professor Lacina comes off as a bit dry but he knows the material. His teaching method is clear and is happy to answer questions. He takes attendance and participation as part of the grade and WileyPlus is required for the HW (shop around for the access code). There are 5-6 quizzes and he drops the lowest one, plus 2 exams and a final (w/curves)
Professor Lacina is one of the worst professors I've taken by far. Attendance is mandatory and he makes absolutely no accommodations to people susceptible to COVID. His teaching is painfully dry and there are almost no homework grades (besides quizzes) so you don't know how you're doing until a quiz/exam. Don't take his class if you value your GPA.
Worst class I've ever taken. No flexibility, class participation mandatory, even the quality of participation is graded. I feel like I'm being treated like a Kindergarten student and micromanaged, it's ridiculous. There are other wonderful professors at UHCL that are flexible, I'd recommend someone else. This class could have easily been online.
This class gives no wiggle room. Only two projects and four exams. If you fail more than one exam, you are done for. His lectures are dry and straight forward, but he does many tables/charts to explain any sample problems and goes way to fast for anyone to understand what he's explaining. Definitely not taking him again.
His teaching is very straight forward but this class gives no wiggle room. 2 projects and 4 exams, and if you fail more then one then you're done for. His lectures are very fast paced and does many charts/tables for every sample problems which is hard to follow when he just explains it very quickly. Definitely consider another professor if possible
