Before the class I really didn't want to take it, but michael made the class fun and challengeing. He taught me alot about public speaking. I highly suggest taking this class with this teacher...

Great professor, made a potentially boring summer into an interesting and fun summer school class... Though he seemed overly concerned with not wearing the same outfit more then once... You will see when you take the class... Anyway, bottom line was the class was fun, professor was cool, and if you have to take the class,,, I reccomend this prof.

I took Leach's class for winter 2006. It was fun and scary all at the same time. Scary because I HATE public speaking! And fun because there were a lot of people that were terrified just like me but we got through it and had fun. We used the text book only once! Do all of the assignments and it will be an Easy A!

Since I started this class, my communication skills improved a lot, and when I said a lot, it means A LOT! He dedicates most of his time for us. This class was one of the best classes I have ever taken. Mike is one of the most supportive instructors I have ever have during my time in college. If you don't like to speak in public this class will be difficult for you, but if you're willing to try and open to new experiences then you will flourish in this class.

Took his basic coms class and moved on to forensics. Mike has been helpful and always seeks to achieve goals with his students while keeping interpersonal relations clear and problem-free. Michael Leach is easily one of the best & most helpful teachers I have ever had at COC. I have had him for Fundamentals of Speech, Oral Interpretation, and as a Coach for the Speech team. He is always ready to help, and the lessons you learn in his speech classes on on the speech team are things you will be able to use for the rest of your life.

When i first took Mikes Comms class i was a bit afraid about public speaking. Mike's teachings have inpired me to speak out and open up. He encouraged me to join the speech team and i did. In my class, he told us that it was one of his toughest semesters personally - But he was allways there with a smile and encouragement for us. I was happy to sign a Thank You card for him. It was challenging, but the guy really cares.

This guy is the real deal. Very helpful outside of the classroom, as well as within. He knows his craft, and as a result strives to teach his students well above and beyond the fundamentals of speaking in the public realm. Hes also, "up on things", so he can relate to the students in a way many instructors lack.

Great teacher. I took him in the sumer because I just wanted to get speech over with. It turned out to be an amazing experience. We had 5 speeches in total and the first two were credit/no credit and done in class as to break the ice. Highly recommended!

Great teacher. Incredibly smart too. I wish he showed off how good he is because he's so humble. My only complaint is he is difficult to speak to one on one (unless you have an appointment) because he is sooooo busy! His class really changed the way that I write and present papers in other classes. His techniques are really, really good.

I absolutely HATE public speaking. That being said, this guy really knows his field. By the end of the class I was very confidant in going up to the front of the class and performing a speech. Mike was very helpful and practically spelled out what he wanted from us in order to succeed in his class.

I had an eh experience with this prof. If you aren't comfortable with public speaking, take this class. It's designed for people who aren't that great at it. However, if you're great with public speaking, you're better off finding an easier prof. He makes you do a lot of bs work so the speeches aren't weighted too heavily. No book

His speeches require a lot of work and it has to be exactly precise, he will email you late on a lot of those assignments, and his sarcasm can make him seem intimidating... BUT he is a good teacher, funny at times, and really into what he does. If you're planning on taking this class, good luck. But you'll be satisfied that you did.

Best teacher! I was so shy prior to this class, he really brought me out of my shell. Mad me feel more confident, I feel like this class improved my writing and talking public speaking skills. He's golden and by that I mean he's the type of person who you don't realize makes you a better speaker until after you have left his classroom. You get out what you put into it,; he just helps you unlock your talent for speaking that you didn't know you have or are too afraid to use.

I took Mike over the summer for COMS-105. We had 5 speeches, the first week was him lecturing, informing us how to speak and how to create speeches. Then it was a speech a week after that. He was a great teacher, I enjoyed his class; he has a great sense of humor. It is a lot of work, but if you try, and don't procrastinate, you'll be fine.

Mike is a good guy. If he gets sassy with you, give it back and he'll appreciate and respect you more. Follow the example outline speech to write your own, you won't fail. Very helpful and his constructive criticism will help you out more than you know in the future. Don't take it personally, he really means well.

Before taking Mike's class I was terrified of public presentations. He teaches you techniques on how to work on issues that you personally have with public speaking. As long as you set a good pace when you write speeches, you'll be fine.

He comes off intimidating at first. But if you attend his class and participate you will be on his good side. He is very picky with his assignments but if you follow his examples exactly as shown, you'll get a good grade. He is an easy A if you put in the minimal work he asks for. However, slackersno-shows will NOT do well in his class.

I absolutely LOVED Michael! I was nervous going into my first coms class but it ended up being a great experience. I took coms 105 & 190 with him and I learned so much within 1 semester. make sure when you write your speeches that you bold exactly what he bold in his speech templates. if you forget to bold what he does you'll get so many points marked off cause you didnt follow his directions. so bold stuff so you dont lose points on stupid stuff

I've read some of the others reviewing and I can't help but disagree. Michael is trying to create an environment where people will feel comfortable encountering and overcoming a legitimate fear. He wants every student to feel respected and empowered. He works really hard to create an environment that encourages us to go outside our comfort zone.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for helping me to communicate effectively. When I was a child I had stutter in my speech, I slowly got rid of it by reading books and lots of praying. But on and off, I sometimes stutter even now. You have changed my life, for me to think & talk slow. My favorite acronyms are BEST, GIFT, which I am grateful.

Actually teaches you skills needed to be successful outside of this class. He provides great feedback and actually cares about you getting something meaningful out of the class. The speeches are not difficult if you follow his clear criteria. Would absolutely recommend this class.

Must have accesses to your student email, for everything he does is through that only. Mike is a brutal feedback giver, though he also has amazing examples and stories for every lesson. He helps you cookie cut your speech with clear instructions, but he can be a little arrogant or snarky at times. Would recommend for speech enthusiasts.

All he is really looking for is for you to try, the only way you will not pass the class is if u look at him and say I am not going in front of the class to do the speech Once you actually do the speech he gives great feed back great tips on how to do better, he cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Mike is a great professor who genuinely cares about his students. He gives brutal feedback, so people often think he's snobby/rude. I took his class over summer and liked it so much I decided to join the Speech Team. Mike is a very straightforward guy, so don't ask him unnecessary questions. Also, he gives extra credit. Really hard not to get an A.

At first he may come off as a bit rude, but in actuality he's caring and wants you to succeed. He really strives to have you become a good speaker and is happy to give you extra help if needed. He is also very lenient on grading, offering an insane amount of extra credit if you would need it. I learned a lot from his class and would take him again.

He can be a little prude but as long as you do your work he isn't that mean. As long as you do as you're told, you're gonna get an A on that assignment/speech (so he's a really easy grader). But, if you're extremely introverted or shy & you don't like being pushed to your limit, I do not recommend him. But he was pretty okay.

I really enjoyed mike because he actually wants you to succeed. He is a pretty easy grader and has good feedback. The stuff you learn is valuable inside and outside the class. However if youre very introverted he may be a bit hard on you. The only reason why Im not giving him 5 starts was because he took super long to put grades in.

Great Dude very helpful and respectful, gets your brain thinking and puts you out of your comfort zone, but hes a great teacher (one of the best i've ever had TBH) i guess in a way what he dose dose benifit in the long run, but over all he makes sure you don't feel like "Fuuuuu this class" hes funny and a solid down to earth dude!

I was so scared to take a public speaking class. I've always been afraid to speak in front of people, but he really helps you and works on preparing you to go in front of the class. he is very caring and does everything he can to help you pass the class. would take again!

Mike is a really cool professor who makes everyone feel welcome. I ended up becoming friends with everyone as he makes you sit with someone new every day. When I signed up for the class, I was not excited at all because I am shy and do not like to publicly speak. He was really helpful and pushed everyone out of their comfort zones.

Mike was not only a great professor, but he was a wonderful life coach and a great friend to all the classmates. His feedback can sometimes be misinterpreted as rude, but he genuinely cares about his students and only wants them to improve. He makes the classroom more of a community and tries to push students outside their comfort zone. EASY A TOO.

I HATE public speaking. I am an introvert. But I actually enjoyed this class. He rotates your seat every class, you get to partner up with someone new all the time. I received an A, and a lot of good feed back. Just do what he says, follow directions and you will pass.

I came in hating public speaking. Mike was able to push us out of our comfort zones in the best way possible. He sat us all next to different people each day of class and was able to relate when speaking to us. A lot of the time, it felt like he was a classmate. Was sad when class ended. Still in touch with friends. Highly recommend.

Took this class because it was a requirement for my major, but this class ended up being one of my favorite classes. Michael has a unique way of teaching that brings the class together, making you more comfortable for those really uncomfortable moments like presenting in front of people. Mike was a really cool professor, I was in a communications class seeing '19 and dropped it because it was so boring. I took Mike's class during the summer and it towards the end it felt a little rushed but the class as a whole was not as hard. He makes everyone feel really comfortable both with him and your classmates.

Mike is one of the best professors I've ever had. He makes the classroom feel like such a comfortable environment, after the first presentation I felt like I could talk to any of my classmates. You sit next to someone new everyday and have to remember lots of acronyms, but If you're taking com105 I recommend taking his class.

He was an amazing professor! You sit next to someone new every time, that way you get to know everyone and it makes it easier and takes away your anxiety before a presentation! He was very respectful and very caring about all of his students! Not rude at all and very positive human being! Would definetley take him again!

He grades you on three speeches. Plus, there is a lip sing performance you have to do where you pick a song and lip sing in front of the class. He gives you samples of the speeches and you basically use that to write your speeches. He plays loud music in class. You have to sit next to someone new everyday and talk to that person.

Mike is a very unique professor, in the best way. He is very charismatic and is focused on helping you succeed, without just letting you float by in college. (Which is a good thing). Mike is also a great guy, and is very easy to communicate with outside of class as well!

He definitely gets you out of your comfort zone and aint afraid to call you out. Willing to joke around and not always be serious. Do the work and youll pass. Would recommend.

Mike is a pretty good professor, though he has no patience for unprepared and apathetic students. He will definitely take you out of your comfort zone in this class, and you'll learn a lot if you just do exactly as expected. The class is extremely easy if you JUST FOLLOW THE OUTLINES. Anyone who gets less than a B in his class is just lazy.

Mike is such a chill prof. His lectures consist of a lot of acronyms and the work for this class is super easy. You can pass if you just read the instructions. He offers extra credit at the end of the course and its super easy. This class takes you out of your comfort zone, and really challenges you.

Mike is awesome! As a student, it's so nice to have a professor who will let you shape your own interests around the projects and work independently. It's true this class will push you out of your comfort zone, but Mike is very helpful and tries to create support in the class. He created a fun, casual, and inviting class setting. Would take again!!

Prof Leach's class was an experience I'll never forget. I was undergoing a personal transition and was terrified of speaking in front of a group of people. He could see my nerves and took one-on-one time to help give me the confidence I needed to deliver public speeches. I also made good friends in class because of the environment he created.

Professor Leach is a breath of fresh air. He truly values knowledge, perseverance, and self growth while understanding the importance of connecting with his students. Light on the homework, heavy on breaking through fears and barriers in public speaking. So long as you follow his instructions, ask questions, and simply show up youll get an A.

The class I took with Professor Leach is definitely a life changing experience for me. It was tough and required me to step up my game. Despite the challenges I experienced in the class, P. Leach guided me to success. Accessible, provides useful feedback, & knows how to connect with his students.

I've always dreaded public speaking, so you could just imagine how I felt when I had to take this class! But this class ended up being arguably the most important one I took during my time at COC. Mike is a great teacher! He has helped me face my fears and build confidence that has benefited me long after I've taken this class!

I have seen many reviews that are the opposite of what im saying, but i genuinely think it wasn't true i took him and he was really sweet, funny and understood when something couldn't be done on time. im definitely going to take him again!! great professor

I took this class over the summer and was a bit worried, but it was actually pretty fun. There are a lot of discussion boards, but they are graded easy. 3 speeches total and as long as you try and follow the instructions you should be fine.

At first, I read all the comments here before taking my speech class this summer. I read some eyebrow-raising comments here saying that Mike is this or that. I challenged myself to know more about him and if what the students are saying is true. But This was the most AMAZING CLASS EVER! The people in my class are the best OUR LECTURER is the BEST.

Took this class over summer. I had a really great time in this class. First week was fast paced, but after that it slowed down and work load was manageable. He was lenient with our class since he felt we were not grasping the information well and gave us extra time. Which really helped. He was good about responding to emails.

Mike is the BEST!!!!! I'm shy & introverted but this class really brought a different side of me. Like The lip sync presentation was so daunting to me at first but ended up being the funniest thing ever. The entire class was awesome honestly , I loved it. And Mike really isn't a tough grader, just show up and participate.

Mike is a great professor, especially with our new zoom sessions. He is very easygoing and treats you like an adult. With that being said you are accountable for your grade. If you want an A then all you have to do is put in some effort and participate. He is very encouraging and enjoys seeing his students succeed. I even joined the speech team!

When I read Mike's review, I got intimidated and scared of him. But he changed my mind when I took Summer Class last year. Everyone from our class was lovely. The activities are fun, and nobody gets left out. He is one of the best Professors I ever had. He is very helpful too so don't be scared of asking him. I wish you well with college!

Mike is such a great professor! He genuinely cares so much about his students and is constantly working to make the class not only enjoyable but effective. He opens up to the class in such an engaging and exciting way that I decided to take his COMM 150 class this semester. If you want a class that produces dopamine, THIS is the professor for you!

I was intimidated on the first day of class but the fear of public speaking instantly disappeared after 15 minutes. As long as you show interest in the course and participate you're all good. He gives an entire letter-grade of extra credit at the end of the semester and genuinely wants to help you out. Taking this Coms-190 course next semester.
