not for non-math-minded. Hes smart but fast and impatient.Good for univ.teaching maybe NOT Junior college. If you like math-he'll be good though.Hes really thorough!
Awesome!Awesome!Awesome!!
He wants you to understand everything. The math lab is very helpful and the stat modules help 100%. The tests are very clear with no trick questions.
Very good teacher
Although he seems to know math quite well, he does make a lot of mistakes, and is not always clear. He also does NOT TEACH FROM THE BOOK. I dont think he is a very good teacher, but he is tolerable I suppose.
I loved this class! Great explanations.
He doesn't explain things. He leaves things out a lot.
o gosh, he is so hard, i cannot understand his teaching skills, without math lab I wouldn't learn anything about stat. Don't take him, his a pain in the head!!
I wish I could take more classes with him .. he is a great teacher just don't get on his bad side. show him that u care about learning. stay away if u hate math or if u thing that math is too much for u ...
He is a good guy-but if youre non math minded, take him on your 2nd time around with Stats. SO you are familiar with it, his tests are right off study guides, and you wont be frustrated with him not teaching you the material. OK?
He teaches very clearly.
He tends to go a little fast and gets ahead of us, but you just have to tell him to slow down. He's very patient one on one and also kind of sexy.
He had questions on the tests that were at a higher level than what we went over in class. Couldn't find practice prob.in the book. VERY HARD.Seemed impossible to get an A on tests b/c of the trick questions. He was more interested in tricking than teachin
A GREAT TEACHER EVER!!!
teacher's teaching does not relate to the exams
No Comments
His teaching style is clear and simple, although; his tests DO NOT reflect his lectures. I felt SO prepared for the first test but since the tests were not the same as the homework I got a D on my first test.
Teaching style very nice, but he faviored students over others.
He is a little fast at times, just take notes, pay attention and do the home work and you will do well in the class. he never gives alot of homework.
great teacher. he knows his matterial well and works hard towards teaching them. tests are easier than homeworks so if you can do the homeworks you can ace the tests. He is fair and understanding. if you are a transfer student he is highly recommended
Ok. Be prepared to memorize, and drink lots of coffee before class.
He does a great job helping his students when they need help. For this class his test did reflect what he went over in class. Just make sure you do your homework.
Mike teaches everything in the book and the test are hard and tricky. He does not specify what is on the tests and no notes are allowed. IF you are taking a full load, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
He is a really fast teacher and he is very unhelpful, horrible teacher, take Ann Kimet instead, I got an F in his class and an A in hers
Prof. Lines is well intentioned. His test material is what he reflects in the lectures. It is however hard to relate his material with the lab modules and the text. He also seems to be impatient if you "don't get it" and comes off as very patron
this teacher is very hard, and doesnt take his time to review each step he just gives us the answer and lets us figure it out by ourselves. he expects us to know the material which doesnt help he teaches at a fast paste.
Very helpful. I hate math, but he made it OK.
Good teacher! More than willing to help. Will entertain questions that are on topic and pertinent. He doesn't make way for stupid questions though so if you are stupid and afraid of being told that you are don't sign up.
Do not take his class
i worked my ass of in his class and got an "F" enough said
If you're anxious to fail, choose him.
i just cant keep up with his class. he does not slow ndown for the students who dont get it
took in the winter session. got an A. excellent instructor, however, seems to get annoyed when you don't get the concept right away even when he knows your one of his A students. very useful and interesting info learned.
Mike Lines is a great person, but maybe not the greatest teacher. He gets a tad impatient and doesn't deal well with a slower class. Though he will help you outside as much as possible. He's also cute and flirtatious. Always fun.
Goes too fast, hard to keep up with. Basicly whatever everyone else already said.
A wonderful teacher, just show him that you care to learn and he'll help you to get there. Make a use of his office hours, he is very helpful when you visit him. You're at a college level not at a high school level!!! YOU LEARN GOOD MATH WITH LINES!!!
EXCELLENT TEACHER, ONE OF MY FAVORITE TEACHERS. VERY HELPFUL, VERY EASY GOING....I HATE MATH, BUT LINES MADE IT VERY ENJOYABLE
Does not teach out of the book. Makes up own problems for us that are much more complicated than we can do. Goes off and talks about info not relevant to this particular class and confuses lots of students.
Focus on the flirting with girls then teaching his class
Well intentioned, but more focused on flirting and his image than teaching. Lab modules are easier than his problems - his are confusing. Very patronizing and impatient if you "don't get it". If you're not cute, he won't give you the time of d
Makes course harder than it has to be. Expects too much from non-math major students. Overall the worst teacher I've ever had at Grossmont. Doesn't communicate ideas well.
The worst math instructor i've ever taken.IF you have a hard time with math do not take his class. Argues more with his students than he teaches. He acts like a highschool teacher, not college level.
Everyone I talked to failed his first test. He didn't seem to care.
He is very helpful and understanding with students diverse situations. Easy Going teacher! you learn every thing you need in class!
i really enjoyed his class because he is very entertaining. some people said that he is hard but i did not think so. however his tests are sometimes kind of hard. he never gave us quizes.
I got the math the first time he explained it. But if someone else didn't he would explain it in an even more confusing way. It almost seemed like his lectures didn't relate to any other of the work. The h/w was never related to the lecutre.
Mike Lines is the best math teacher I have ever had. He acually cares if the student does well in class ( only if the student tries to do well). Focus more on the concepts that he says in class rather than the text book and passing shouldn't be a problem.
even the class' "combined intellect" could not impress this man. Don't take for summer, unless you want a challenge. Teacher is fair and teaches well. Gets you ready for the next math class.
didnt learn anything from him or his class. very hard to understand.has trouble sorting thoughts. very confusing. didn't enjoy his class at all
hard teacher during the summer. I'm an A student who got a C in his class. Said he would not curve. Small changes to problems on the final that he had never shown us how to do. I was frustrated. I learned a lot, but could not prove it on his tests.
it is a hard course for the summer, but you can still get an A. never did homework, but asked for help during office hours and got an A.
worst experience in math class . take if you want to be stressed out and confused !
not a good idea for summer! said he wouldn't grade on curve , after everyone drops, he does! teaches emphasizing on his knowledge rather than your understanding!
I learned alot in his class, use office hrs if u need. dont get behind
HATE him. first day of class & i never want to go back. He just annoyes me. So ugly, thinks he is all hot. goes so fast, first day & he tells ppl to leave if its too hard. all ready so unhelpful.
lines is a great teacher. he is very helpful- but his class is hard. he wants to make sure you know your stuff. if you stick it out- you'll be fine. he goes out of his way to help students sometimes. if you don't mind studying, take him.
ARROGANT , COMPLETELY S-TUPId, CARELESS... YES.. FIRST DAYS HE TRIES TO BE COMPREHENSIVE..LATER ON... FORGET IT... THINKS HE'S GOD
He is a good teacher, speaks a little fast and doesn't remember the class is composed of undergrads. It sucks that he doesn't grade on a curve but he almost makes up for it in partial credit. If you go to his butt crack of dawn office hours you will do fine.
Ask questions!!! he gives a lot of handouts that are really hard but he goes over them in class. My only complaint is he didn't tell us where we were in the book too, so it was hard later. He only gives about a weeks notice for the test so keep up.
This guy will help you but only if you want help. SO if you planto do well he will assist you like no other math teacher will but he must see you putting effort forth to at least try. If you dont ask questions you will fail.
Prof Lines is a great teacher. I recomend his calss to anyone who is concerned with actualy LEARNING the material. Four stars
Great teacher, really knows what he's talking about and explains it very well. Anyone with problems in the math field should enroll in his class asap..
i took this class in Jan. session... and it was sooo good.. he is very lienent..explains things over and over until you get it.. Def take this class during jan, and you will be so glad u did.. everyone in his class says the same... really good teacher!!!! take him and u will actually "get it"..
found him to be a great teacher. did a good job explaining things the first time. was available to answer questions after class if needed. hand outs were great. for intersession class it was pretty easy.
Will help you through intersession. Makes class entertaining and can teach anyone stats. Goes the extra mile to help you understand and do well. Ask him ?'s, he'd love to explain. Intersession great thing to do, you'll be glad you did! Ultra-lovable too!
He wants you to understand the material, applies it to real situations in life. He will help you and will go out of his way till you understand! It is important to read and practice before lecture. He is real smart and very interested in questions, so do not be shy, ask questions he will explain.
MIKE DA BOMB!!!
take him during intersession... really good teacher.. and fun!! helped us all out alloott.. very clear and straight forward.quizzes and tests not hard
he's an okay teacher so far, he gets frustrated when students don't ask questions, but he means well. He has a nice body too!:)
Totally confused and bitter in this class! He chooses (hot) girls as his favorites and takes them aside and tutors them seperatly. I hate this class and i will fail it. He is rude to everyone who doesn't kiss his ass!!!! Watch out!
Oh my !!!
DON'T TAKE HIM FOR ANYTHING!!! very unclear boring, confusing and dosen't explainthings clearly. Unless you're one of his favorite students you won't get a good grade.
I took his class in last Spring Intersection, and I love him!
This class is simply difficult. He covers everything he expects you to know and answers lots of questions in class. His teaching style isn't as interesting as some, but its adequate to pass the class if you put in effort. You will likely need to do all homework, read the book, and ask lots of questions if you want to get a great grade.
Mike is an excellent teacher, but don't expect to just sit in the class and pass. He cares about his students so he gets frustrated when he finds that people dont care and are not doing their homework. Dont be affraid to ask him a question, he will explain it until you get it. Awesome teacher.
I don't think he realized this was intermediate algebra. He tried to fill our heads with lots of extra stuff that I'm not sure was neccesary. He seems to pick favorites.I did all my homework and still struggled. He took over the class about 2-3 weeks into it.My grade went from a B to a D.Our class went from 16 students to 4.It was a summer class tho.
Don't take htis class unless you are a hot little chickie, even then he is so unclear. It seems like he shows off how good he is at doing math but when it comes to helping others, he dosen't remember he's the teacher.
I took this class over the summer, and I knew it was going to go by quick, but what I didn't know was that this teach was going to be SOOOOOOO WACCCK. HE DOES pick his favorites and unless you have a strong backround in algebra, don't even consider taking his class. By the way, he's a bit rude. I hated him!
Hard to understand, Forceful, only wants you to slove the problem the way he dose it, and had strange hair.

he sucks

He knows what he is talking about, and he will answer as many questions as there are asked. He will go over the same problem as many times as you need and he doesnt make you feel like an idiot for saying you dont understand. He is a hard teacher and he knows what he expects from you but he is a good teacher.
i had him for math 180... he was kinda tough.. but i think he's hot!
Mike was an excellent instructor. No, he isn't easy, but if you put in the study time and do the homework, you should have no problems. By the time you leave his class you are well prepared for math 110.
he is a descent guy but teaches a lot of unnecessary material and can be a dick if you make him mad i would not recommend him if you have a hard time with math.
I had this teacher several times and I love his teaching style. If you are planning on transferring to a university then he is the teacher you want so you can be prepared.. There is a HUGE difference between a JC and a University!!! Lines is definitely for people who want to learn.
good teacher. sometimes moody & frustrated with class. sometimes if you ask a question he makes you try it on the board, so if your shy like me... you don't ask!
very intimidating in the beginning, but very helpful and clear on the subject half-way thru the semester.some may find his way of teaching difficult, but if u atempt the homework, the class will seem fairly easy.tests are moderate.makes u think and work hard to do well in the class.i definitely recommend him if u're plannign to transfer
fun class
Train Wreck.
Makes a very complicated subject tolerable. Will go over everything again and agin until he is sure everyone understands it. Kind of looks like hes either really tired or realy depressed all the time but it doesnt interfere with his teaching.
Mr. Lines is either really good or really bad at teaching...it just depends on who you are. I personally really enjoy the class, and he's very helpful and friendly. He's one of the best math teachers I've ever had. I recommend him to anyone willing to learn.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! he is a horrible teacher. He makes you look dumb in front of the class. He doesnot explain the matericals very well and you will get really confused in his class. He just doesnt teach one mthod to use, he teaches you 2 and 3 diff. methods. which can be very confusing!
He is one smart guy, but...he is rude, picks the hot girls to be favorites, and makes examples of u in class. For example, only one guy failed the test, and he mentioned it in front of everyone. He also talks to you like you are a baby, and need to be told everything 5-6 times. Very boring, tries to impress you with other math class problems. Jerk.
By far the best math teacher I've ever had. I wish all teachers taught like him. He is VERY Clear and exact in his teaching. He really prepares you for higher level math and makes sure you understand the basics. Don't take him if you want an easy A. Take him if you want to actually learn the material.
If you dont have a strong background in math, try not to take this guy unless you are a full time student and have time for all the homework he assigns and doesnt collect. If you have a question about home work...show him anything thing you've tried even if you know its completely wrong, otherwise he wont help you.
i heard he is better in teaching stats than math 90. i knew a lot of people who has to take this class over because he teaches u complicated problems.
This guy sucks. He loves the girls, but they have to be cute. His style of teaching is really horrible. He has zero personality. He gets irked at some students that have a hard time w/ the math. I think that's insensitive on his part. His hair really bothers me. Those of you who've taken him know what I'm talking about. Even his hair do sucks.
Mr Lines is a good teacher!!! math is a hard subject and one that not many want to take. He tries to give you the keys and tools that you will need and take with you as you continue math.. He is a wonderful teacher if you really want to learn, he cant make the plays he can only teach them to you and hope you run with the ball!!!!
mike doesn't have a lot of energy, but he's a good teacher. he likes if you ask a lot of questions. i would recommend, just do the homework.
I am really, really bad at math but Mike was great at explaining I didn't understand. Willing to go over formulas multiple times. He really wants you to do well in his class. Put in some effort and he will notice.
This class had no padding to help your grade out, so you had to do well on the weekly quizzes and four tests he gives out. He does examples of math problems on the board and answers questions you might have from the homework. He had more patience for girls than the guys. He was confusing sometimes, but for the most part he was helpful.
Mr.Lines is the best professor! I would go to his class if I was dying! He is a cutie, and he makes learning fun!!! I am doing very well in his class and he has helped me sooo many times, I dont need anymore math classes but I am probably going to take him just to have some fun in school!
The book is basically a suggestion to use. His notes are unclear and he goes so fast there's no time to comprehend what he's teaching. Unless you are great at math, don't take him unless you basically live at the math study center
Lines is great when it comes to teaching the material. He does sample problems on the board & gives out section outlines. Only thing about this class is that you have to be an excellent test taker! Grade is made up of weekly quizes (not kidding) 4 tests and the final. No padding to balance out your grade. Attendence not required but recommended!
This guy is a very smart instructor, but that seemed like it was part of the problem. He taught more than was needed, making things very confusing at times. Also, he teaches different methods than the book, but writes test based on the book! It felt like two classes at once sometimes. If you eat, sleep and breathe math, take his class.
I liked him cuz i was able to ask questions and if i didn't want to do the problem i would tell him NO. if you don't do the homework and have a question he definitely won't answer your question. I really never went to class and he still passed me. If you get good grades on the tests, he really won't get on ur case about ur absences. has favorites!!
mike was a great teacher, if you work ard and pay attention in class youll do just fine.
he his the coolest teacher!!!
Is a great teacher. does have favorites though...but very helpful if you are struggling and are trying hard to pass. Not very patient with boys who think they know what they are talking about. hes also funny..which was nice.
Excellent teacher!! would highly recomend his class, he is funny and very helpful and will take the time to make sure each student understands the work. There is lots of quizes and a test each week, but if you study and do the home work you'll pass..just like any other college course.
Hes good.. I think this class is basically a ****ulative concepts from all the previous math classes- mainly algebra and calculus.U have to do the practice problems or homework a few time and youll get it. I never had the time so I had to drop but looking back now this class should be cake if you TRY to do the homework problems a few time. stupid me
Loved him, however he is more helpful if you show effort ask questions and can prove that you are trying such as showing homework even if its not complete. If he feels you aren't making an honest attempt he won't waste his time which I think is fair.
I took a few calc classes from Mike (Calc1 Calc2 DiffEq). He is extremely helpful if you show that you're trying, and anyone who puts in the effort required in any math class will pass his class. I went on to get a bachelor's degree in math and I must say that his classes helped me the most. I found Mike inspirational.
The class always had that uncomfortable abiance and he would always treat us as if we were stupid. The only kids that did well were those who never really showed up. I went to office hours once and left more confused than when I'd gone in. If you can help it don't take him. Take Mcann he's awesome!
Very knowledgeable, but not very helpful. Sometimes is hard to follow, but if you're good at math, it's an easy class.
Mike teaches you to prepare for the next level. His concepts and techniques are effective in all levels of math. Without self-motivation and effort, you will struggle. Mike is more than happy to help you if you put forth the effort. He is a great teacher who seperates the students from the slackers...
i took stats from someone else and failed. although this class was still difficult the second time, lines made it easier for me to understand, if i can do it with lines, u can too :)
Mike Lines is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Algeba is very hard for me and he takes the extra time to help me understand the steps.Anyone that says he doesn't help or doesn't explain things must be sitting in a different class or to buisy text messaging friends. At no time has Mike made people feel stupid in his class.
The man knows his stuff he has a hard time getting across to his students. The course would jump from section to section without understanding of the one prior. He does have the tendency to make students feel stupid and he does favor the "pretty girls". Expect the text book provided for your teachings. Good luck with this guy.
Mike is a nice guy, but moves fast and does alot in head while working on board. He shows short cuts and multiple ways to do things that sometimes just confuses most of us.. I would not recommend him to those who are weak in math/algebra. And get the solutions book - it's worth the extra bucks when you're at home trying to figure things out!
Do not take this professor's class. First off he doesn't even have a text on lone in the library. Weird seeing that every teacher is given one for that specific purpose. His lessons are all over the place. They don't mesh to one big picture. He spends WAY TOO much time going over homework. The only good thing is he is rather kind, but thats it.
Horrible teacher! He needs to go to teachers college! He knows his stuff but is unable to explain it well. He gets very annoyed when you ask questions or don't understand! I would not recommend him!
Great teacher, I loved having him. He went out of his way to help me. I had a lot of trouble out of school that semester, and he did so much that he did not need to do for me. He explained things to those who were struggling, made jokes. He was great. I will take his class again sometime soon. Thank you Mr. Lines!!!
VERY VERY HARD BUT HE IS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP WHEN I TOOK HIS CLASS IT WAS MY FIRST SEMESTER IN COLLEGE I THOUGHT HE WAS SO HARD AND NOT WILLING TO HELP ME CUS I WAS SHY TO ASK, BUT WHEN I WENT ON TO MATH 180 I RELIEZED HOW MUCH HIS TEACHING WAS HELPFUL. COOL TEACHER BUT A LOT AND A LOT OF TIME DEMANDING
Best math teacher ever. He will teach you above and beyond the course requirements and is willing to help if your willing to try. Slackers need not apply, He will have no patients for people who don't try. Sometimes it is hard to concentrate on math b/c he's hot!
Best sumer stat. class ever Michael.. You are one of my favorite profeesor at grossmont...He's very nice guy and helpful.. Take him
Calc 2 is a very hard class, but he does a GREAT JOB teaching. He is a very VERY good teacher. Even though the grade in the summer was based off of 1 quiz and 3 tests (due to time) if you really study you will do good. His tests are VERY fair, just do the homework and STUDY and you can easily get a passing grade. It is a very hard subject though.
I've taken two math classes with prof. Lines and enjoyed each of them. If you pay attention in class, and do your homework you will do well in his class.
Best Teacher Everrrrrrr!!!!!
fair and helpful and understanding. he cant do the work for you, he recognises a students efforts even if they are struggling. He is in math study center to help 2 days a week. if you dont pass its your fault!
Best Teacher EVER in Math. Willing to take time to go over anything. He made class entertaining. I've tried to take Math90 4X and dropped 4X. He made it easy. It would have been nice if he taught Math110 next semester cause I would defintely take him again. He really wants you to learn and understand Math. I'll be taking him for Statistic for sure!
The guy is a genius. He definitely knows waaayyy more than the course requires. I took him for Calc II and Linear Algebra and I would recommend him for either class. He expects you to keep up but recognizes real effort and is ALWAYS willing to help you understand. Great teacher...and pretty funny too
Really good teacher. Knows what exactly what he is talking about and I wish he taught all the math classes. People says he moves quick but I think its a good speed and he also covers some difficult material but if you enjoy math and need many more math courses for your major this is definitely a class you should take.
Lines is a great teacher for serious students. He always took time to work through problems that students needed help with, and sometimes spent the majority of class answering questions. He collects HW every week and doesn't allow notes on tests or quizzes. I really liked his straight forward teaching style, has a good sense of humor too.Great prof
Mr. Lines is a really good teacher. His lectures are very clear and I managed to pass without too much effort, but still understanding the material.
Great Professor, I had to drop Linear Algebra last semester b/c the professor was useless. I'm glad i took it with Professor lines he is great. All the post below are true.
always willing to help and there for you when have questions in or out of the classroom. he builds your confidence by assigning work that you can do at your level and gradually increase the level of difficulty so come test time, you enough knowledge, confidence and skills not just to pass but get high scores.
Great professor and probably the best for math. Explains everything clearly and makes sure that you understand the material.
He is a great teacher who genuinly wants you to succeed, in the way where you deserve to succeed by understanding the math, not just succeeding through extra credit or something like that. He is ALWAYS willing to help. I asked about literally 15 questions per class and he took every one of them. He is very patient and reasonable.
VERY good teacher. His understanding of math is truly profound, yet he has the ability to relate the material quite easily to students. His pace in class is quick, so dont drift off even for a sec or you will be lost. His quizzes are pretty easy, basically just to make sure you have been doing the hw. tests are moderately hard in difficulty
breaksdown problems and helps student indivudal
One of the best math teachers i have had. takes time to teach everyone. kind of went slow most days because of this, but very helpful if you understand things a little slower than most
He is a professor that actually cares about his students' success. He is willing to do just about anything to help. He assigns a good amount of homework and expects that you will try to complete it. Don't miss class or not pay attention because that's really important. It was a hard class for me but I enjoyed it because of him.
Helpful teacher but takes 2/3 of class time answering hw q's. Spends a lot of time on proofs. Very few examples. Ill prepared, often stumbled through explanations of homework problems he assigned. No study guides, inconsistent, confusing, demeaning, anal, lots of hw. I got an A, but I spent a LOT of time learning from the textbook. Not a great class.
Had to teach myself, and I'm not good at math. Voila! There you have it. If you already know the material, great class! I wanted to learn algebra because I didn't know it. Informed us that 40% of the class fails! You have to understand the textbook explanation, that uses terms to explain the problems that describe things new in that chapter.
Lines is a great teacher that genuinely cares and wants his students to succeed. He spends a portion of the class reviewing hw and then moves onto the day's cha. I suck at math, but with Lines, I actually understand the material. He takes the time to help everyone individually and is willing to explain things thorougly. Plus, he's quite cute.
Professor Lines was amazing! i had dropped Math 175 twice because of other professors. But Professor Lines was so different, patient, thorough, and extremely helpful. Make sure you do your homework when it's due because he will give you surprise quizzes. I highly recommed him!
He was somewhat helpful but not enough. READ the book. His tests are really hard. You can understand it and fail the class. Overall calc 2 is a pretty hard class.
horrible. goes way too fast. goes over the hw on the board but doesnt explains. he just solves it for u. its so ez for him that he thinks we know it 2 but we don't. this class is self taught. horrible horrible AVOID
Mr. Lines is a great professor. He geniunely wants you to succeed if you want to. Yes, there is always homework but that's how you learn math. He always reviews the homework at the beginning of class and doesn't care if he takes up half the class answering questions. I would definitely recommend taking him!
He is a good teacher but he moves way to fast. The test always turned out to be different than the practice sheet he gave us. He solves problems & doesnt explain them throughly only when you ask, he will do it step by step
I took Math 90 with Mr. Lines two years ago and I failed the class because I spent less time studying the material. Then I took his Math 90 class again...yes again and passed. He's an awesome teacher, very helpful if you have any problems. Just study, do the homework and you'll do fine.
Thinks he's easy so he goes super fast. Won't explain problems or homework. MathXL program he uses is difficult and confusing.
He is a laid back teacher who makes sure that everyone understands everything. Explains in an easy way. Has a great sense of humor. -Shalina C.
Does go a little fast sometimes, but overall he's very laid back, occasionally joking around with students, but doesn't get too off-track. Willing to help if you're willing to ask, goes over material very thoroughly. Great teacher!
He moves very fast. he's brilliant. You can tell he knows what he's talking about because he uses alot of math terminology. I almost wished he had dumbed things down, only because there are ALOT of calculus rules that I didn't quite pick up or learn. Overall he's a good teacher who will be available to you during office hours.
Michael Lines is the Michael Jordan of math! He is good, but you have to keep up. If you are taking him for any higher math courses, don't expect him to spend time explicating on the basic math stuff, like factoring or why matrices don't commute; he expects you to know all that if you are in a higher math class. Overall, a good teacher!
He is a pretty cool guy however very difficult if you have never taken a Calc class before. I could see this being a good class if you are taking it over and just want a review because he goes way to fast and also skips all the steps that he thinks everyone should be able to do in their head. This is a teach yourself class! Gets Frustrating
Funny, laid back, guy, who puts up with A LOT of unruly students and still not only keeps his cool, but turns the tide of inappropriateness into fun learning. WAY smart. Super helpful.
Average teacher....practice tests are nothing like the ones he gives....do the homework and you'll be fine
Best Teacher Ever.
Took him for a summer Stats class. Very fast paced+difficult material. Using MathXL was VERY helpul! He was always willing to help Students. He's a fair grader and let us use handwritten notes for his tests (which are difficult but manageable). Class consisted of 3 tests, final, and a quiz each week. Lowest quiz score dropped. I recommend him!! :)
I had Lines for Calc 180, and he doesn't mess around. It's a fast paced class and if you get left in the dirt, there's no chance you'll come back. DO TONS OF PROBLEMS FROM THE BOOK. He takes pretty basic problems from the book and puts them on the tests, but they're still difficult. Not an easy class by an definition, but the teacher is great.
Lines demonstrates ideas starting with proofs and later moves to intuition. He explains things well and vigorously, but will slow down if you have questions. His grading is fairly lax, you can do well if you study.
Nice teacher and explains things fairly clear. However, he would work about 4 problems during class, and assign about 30. I felt I was teaching myself out of the book most of the time. He doesn't check answers on HW, which is fine if you want an easy A. I have 3 more levels of math after this so understanding the material was more important to me.
Mr. Lines is a great teacher who can be amusing and considerate at times. He expects students to be on track; therefore, one needs to come prepared to class for he progresses at a fast pace when students don't imply. Overall, he's a very helpful and lenient teacher. I'm happy to be in his class.
You can see Prof. Lines brilliance at math during his lectures for Linear Algebra. By far, this is the hardest, most challenging, math subject this student has ever taken. The best thing about Lines' Linear Algebra is that he studied the esoteric and verbose textbook from MIT, and interpreted it for the class in ways that is more understandable.
I took this class last semester, this teacher is funny.you need to read every chapter before the class and buy Mathxl code. His tests are hard, but the tests' problems are the same questions in the book. I ended up this class with B.
Mr. Lines is great. If you do all the homework and study your notes you will do well. Lines explains the material in a very understandable way, but this is not an easy class. I would not recommend taking it over summer as I did, since there is so much material to cover, but I definitely enjoyed being in this class.
Mr. Lines is great, anyone that posts negative comments on here was most likely lazy and looking for another easy A. If you are any form of Computer science/ engineering/econ major and truly want to learn the subject and be best prepared for future classes Lines is the man. With that, he isn't the easiest but he is very knowledgeable and a cool guy
By far the best teacher I've ever had. I REALLY struggle in math and he was really helpful. Gives Practice tests almost identical to the real tests. Goes over homework in class. Really cares about the class and their understanding of material. Easy to approach and ask questions over email, office hrs, and in class. I would take his class again!
Overall good class. I took it for a prerequisite and I'm glad I chose this one. Lines is an insightful professor with a clear understanding of what he is doing and how he's teaching his students. Do the homework and study for the tests. He's there if you need help and is pretty laid back. Would definitely recommend.
If you take differential equations with lines you are in for a world of pain. Getting a C or a low B is do-able. Very few people pass the class with an A. Even with their best effort. His lectures are confusing and all over the place. He gives tons of homework that will leave you working well into the night and his tests are full of surprises. hard
He's a nice enough guy, but I learned nothing (no exaggeration here) attending his class. Lectures are way too fast and skips through explaining steps, so if you have questions later on you might have to teach yourself. I personally wouldn't recommend this professor.
I took Mr. Lines for Math 170, Math 175, and Calculus 1 (I forget what number that is). Mr. Lines is a phenomenal teacher. He lectures every class but sets his expectations clearly. Before every test he writes out a list of things to review on the board. Class participation will sometimes result in extra credit. Definitely my favorite professor
Mr. Lines is the man! Very well-organized, very smart, and very good at communicating the material. Personally, I thought he was an excellent teacher. Also outright hilarious. Can't get enough of Lines' wit and charm!
While very knowledgeable at Math... 1. Does not break down material for students. 2. Tries to include material from classes 2-3 levels ahead. 3. Does not prepare lesson plans. 4. Does not teach from the book. 5. Tests are based on the book, not his lectures. I was had a C in this class till I finally ignored him and studied the textbook.
He's very knowledgeable and I'm sure he's a great math teacher during the regular semester, but the summer classes are too fast. I couldn't keep up with the massive homework and tests. Before I could master one subject we jumped right into the next, covering 4 or 5 sections in the span of a week. The class is from Monday to Thursday
Calc 2 is one of the toughest subjects you'll have and Lines expects you to be on point with your trig identities and previous math experience. He does not finish examples in your notes so make sure and ask him lots of questions! 45 students entered the class and only 14 or 15 remained by the end of the semester. If you can- take another teacher.
I don't like his way of teaching at all. He teach us from his notes and he gives us a lot of home work to do from the book. His test are not similar to the practice test.
Calc 2 itself is a hard subject so if you're not going to put in the time you probably won't do well, regardless of teacher. He's a funny guy as well as a great teacher. He teaches conceptually first and then gets into the details of the problems. Is also flexible and will help the class out. There are easier teachers, but there aren't better.
He is a good and smart professor. The material is tough by itself, but he will answer all your questions. Just don't be shy to ask questions. Try not to skip classes. Missing one class can make you very confused afterwards. I enjoyed his class. He does give a lot of homework, but if you do all the homework, you will do great at his tests.
Skips steps in notes and rarely finishes examples because they "should" be obvious. He quizzes you on material you learned 48 hours ago (the class prior) and does this weekly so if you don't understand and are not studying right after class getting help, you will bleed 1-2% of your final grade each week. Good luck.
If you like math, Lines is an awesome professor. You can tell he is passionate about the subject and he prepares you for future math classes. He is very personable and easy to talk to for asking questions. He is also very organized and was really good about grading and returning assignments. I would definitely take him again.
challenging class, needed tutoring for this class. quizzes every thursday and the material was tough to understand. Mr. lines was super helpful with questions and made sure we understood what was going on all the time.
hes so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!! hes also really nice you just have to pay attention. Its not hard but if you don't show up to class then you won't pass just like any other class. One of the Best math teachers.
Professor Lines is a very intelligent and kind teacher. His classes are meant for hardworking students, the more effort you put in the better you'll do in his class. His class will transform you into a well disciplined and focused student. Highly recommend him for anyone who wants a challenge, especially if your a math/engineering/science major.
great teacher and so helpful. I like stat just because of him. he put a lot of efforts inside and outside the class.
I was nervous taking this course because I'm not good with math. The teacher is a very nice guy. He will help if you ask. But, his lectures aren't really helpful. He just does the homework (which can be helpful). He doesn't really have an actual lesson plan. His lectures are over the place. If you're not a math wiz I wouldn't take his class.
BEST TEACHER ever!! very helpfulllll
This professor is the worst. He assigns long homework assignments that don't help you for the tests. He doesn't finish notes. For quizzes on Wednesday it will be on Monday's material. I dropped after the first exam because he had put questions from future sections that we hadn't learn yet on the exam. Never had to drop a class before. Disappointed.
This professor is the not all that good. He assigns homework that don't help you for the tests, does not give enough notes. He expects you to already know the criteria, gets all smart when questions being asked about work saying "what dont understand, I've already explained it" makes students not want to ask questions at all during class.
I took Lines for 281 and now 284 and he is the math teacher I have ever had. He explains everything in detail and will answer any question that comes up in the class. What else could you ask for
Do Not Take Him For This Class! Unless you seek help outside of the course and read the entire book, you will not receive a good grade. My class average at the end of the semester was 64%.
Difficult class (calculus 3), but Lines made the material understandable. Homework is a must, office hours are a good idea if you have questions, and outside tutoring isn't a bad idea. Great prof, would definitely take again.
Worst I've had. Avoid this guy. Super long homework every week, ridiculously hard tests. He let us all share answers on our first test since no one could even do half of it. So bad.
He is the best math professor I have ever taken. Very clear, gives a practice test the day before every test, and have the questions in the test so similar to the ones in the practice test.
He's honestly hard DONT TAKE HIM !!!
Doesn't really explain much kinda just breezes through stuff and expects you to already know it or figure it out on your own. he used an online program for assigning hw and it sucked.
This Professor is amazing! Hes wonderful at teaching math and helps each student as much as they need. The test are a little difficult because the question require a lot of outside the box thinking, but other than that the class is fairly easy. I would definitely recommend him and will be taking another class by him next semester.
He genuinely cares for the student's well being and tries to lighten the mood as much as possible with corny and sarcastic jokes. A lot of online homework but, everything in the class is very straight forward. You won't learn the material with his lectures on their own and you need to be proactive but, do what is asked of you and you will do fine.
Definitely the best math professor I have had. He is willing to work with you outside of class, and explain things multiple times in multiple different ways until you get it. Also provides study guides which closely resemble the exams.
He doesn't remember quiz dates so he randomly gives quizes. Nobody finishes the tests and it takes 3 hours to do 1 homework. He goes from easy example to a bunch of impossible questions. He treats you as if you are a math major.
Hands down all-time fav math professor. Don't take him if you are trying to get an easy grade. On the other hand if you want to take your higher math classes and feel like you are learning something and not simply pulling your hair out because the basics weren't prev explained, because you didn't take a class from a GREAT prof, then this is yours!!
This stats class was hybrid, half online half lecture. Very helpful and conveyed material clearly, very friendly and answers all questions. Office hours are right before class. Had open-note exams, nothing unexpected. Lots of homework, repetitive problems but it helps you solidify the material :)
Favorite math professor I've had. He is tough, and makes you work for your grade. But if you're looking for a future with anything math related, take his class. It will be tough but you will have an extremely solid foundation in Calculus. He is very engaging, nice, and flexible.
Fantastic professor. Very tough class with lots of homework, so be prepared to work. In the end, you'll learn a ton. He's very nice and organized with clear notes and practice exams. Heads up though, there were 4 exams PLUS a cumulative final. He's accommodating too. I rescheduled 2 exams to take during his office hours which he was nice about.
Recommended for STEM majors. Challenging exams. Feedback is easy to understand, quickly resolves your block. One-on-one with him is highly effective. Flexible and WILL work with you. Requires much out of class time to do well. Fair grader. Can be inconsistent providing his resource material to you. Excellent at working your ?'s out on the board.
As someone who is not that great at math, I found this course to be helpful. No it's not going to be an easy A, yes you do have to pay attention. If you feel lost then speak up and he's more than ready to help. In the end your success in the class like any other will be based on the true effort you put in.
Fair teacher! You really have to work your butt off, but he definitely gives you the tools to succeed!
Hes your typical math teacher. Kind of expects you to be understanding of the material right away, which is unfair to those Non stem majors. Helps outside of class when he wants.
Professor Lines is by far THE BEST math teacher you can ever have! He is easy to talk to and listens to his students! This is such a great quality because he modifies the learning plan based on his student's understanding and makes sure that you leave his class with a SOLID foundation of Calculus. He is by far my favorite and I HIGHLYYYY RECOMMEND!
Professor Lines writes his quizzes and exams straight from his notes. He makes time for any questions before class and takes the time needed to really get it down. Prof Lines really cares more about you understanding the material than memorizing a few formulas. Don't take this class during the Summer!
Prof wasn't very accessible via email. If you are planning on taking the class online be aware he gives in person tests so if you work full-time you'll have to work around that. I had to hire a private tutor to pass the class. He assumes everyone is a STEM major. He is a nice guy but I don't think I would take him again.
He is one of my favorite math teacher. He is smart, caring and passionate. The exam is challenging but an A is possible if you are willing to learn and do homework. I would take him for all of my math class if i can.
I took Math 160 with My Lines last Spring. He is my favorite professor at Grossmont so far. I do agree that his class is somewhat fast paced.. He post notes and in class practices before class each time, so I'd suggest you watch all the videos and try to do the homework before class. Ask if you don't understand, he is always willing to help.
Michael Lines is an exquisite teacher. I had him for Calc 2 and,due to a vacation by my Linear Algebra teacher, was able to learn a few sections from him on that topic as well. Let there be no confusion: Lines is a challenging professor, but his grasp of the material and his ability communicate it with subtle humor is a worthy experience.
Prof Lines was a nice guy but I could not stand his teaching style. I was uncomfortable in the class so I never spoke up and asked questions when I was confused. The online homework took hours for me and theres an assignment for every lecture. He was great with test reviews. He was nice to me and helped me when he knew i was confused after class
Great Professor, hybrid class so homework and quizzes are online and tests are in class. study guides given before the tests. 10/10 would recommend. Really cares about his students and is a really cool guy
Do not take this class online under any circumstances. Each week has 2-3 Assignments plus a quiz and discussions. The discussions have nothing to do with math, and each assignment can take as long as 5 hours to complete. I am good at math, and I will probably drop. I thought this was supposed to be a math class, not an economics class.
I feel like he's a good professor but only if it is on campus. I took math 110 which is pretty much supposed to be beginning math for college and it was the hardest class I took my whole college career. If you're a math person you will do okay at this class but if you're not a STEM don't do it. The hw and quizzes use anologies are hard to understan
Although I struggled in his Math 180 class,I felt the reason why it happened was because I was taking too many classes when taking his class, I would have done better if I took less classes. The past is the past, i took him in fall 2019. He is a good professor, just study and practice problems in order to understand the material and you'll do fine.
This class was so hard it took me a whole day to complete 1 assignment. I am really bad at math but I was able to get an A but I had to work on it
If you have a job I would say this class is going to be extremely hard. The online homework was so much work that I would have to do homework from Monday through Sunday to barely keep up with the class. Along with that I wouldn't have enough time to study because there was so much homework. He never responds to emails and is extremely test heavy.
Do not take this class online. I don't know if he is better over the fall rather then summer. But this class had to much hw and was test heavy. If you do well on the quiz's and homework you more likely going to pass with a C if your not the best at test taking. I don't work and this class was still hard for me and i had to do hw over the weekend.
Gives way too much homework. I felt like I had at least 3 hours every night. He is also very bad about responding to emails.
Mr. Lines is very knowledgable and organized. I liked his lectures and he does not assign a lot of homework like other teachers. He gives multiple attempts on quizzes and exams and he gives a couple of days to complete them. When I saw the other reviews of Mr. Lines I could not believe them. You would have to be so lazy to not do well in his class
Mr. Lines is a good teacher. His lectures are easy to follow and his class is well organized in Canvas. He gives practice exams with solutions and allows multiple attempts on the quizzes and examinations. He also doesn't overwhelm you with too much homework. If you keep pace with the course, you will do fine.
Gave a lot of homework. When people would ask questions he would respond with something that would make the person feel stupid.
I had him for online classes (covid season). He was honestly kind of boring, and it's kind of clear that he hadn't taught online classes before. If he had, I'd be surprised. He wasn't very engaging, and got mad at us for not participating. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt though, he may be better in-person. Textbooks mandatory but unecessary
If you are bad at math I would not recommend this class. Mind you I took this online during covid but it was the same long lectures every day and it usually doesn't help you with the homework. I ended up using youtube for lectures for help with assignments.
This class was hard, you have to put in work and I took this class 100 percent online and some of the home homework is easy but then gets harder.
Very organized and easy to follow. Allows multiple attempts on quizzes and exams. You can turn in work late with a penalty. If you put the time in, you will do well. Great class.
Thoroughly enjoyed Professor Lines. Like all math, it requires significant work outside the class, but he communicates the needs very well. Takes a different approach where he allows multiple attempts on tests and quizzes, so you can see where you made mistakes and correct your thinking. Uses technology well and plans well, stays on track.
Professor Lines seems like a nice guy, but he's a psycho wannabe Gilbert Strang who expects a lot out of everybody. Going to class is pointless cuz he basically repeats exactly what he did in his prerecorded videos. Take him only if there is no other professor teaching linear algebra at Grossmont.
You have the option to retake homework to improve your score for a penalty. However the exams are crucial he wants you to do the exams online and upload hand written work for the exam. If the hand written work is not to his standards he will grade very poorly. No points are given if handwritten work not uploaded. Exams are worth most of the grade.
I got all 80s in his exams but I ended up with F because of homework. I told himcan I do some of the homework? He refused sayingI have 7 classes and I cant grade you alone while we are only 6 students in his class. If he is saying the truth he has 7 classes, he would have 50 students maximum. He made me redo the semester while I am very good.
One of the best teachers I ever had. He is enthusiastic about math and cares about his students. He will spend extra time helping you and adjust due dates if personal issues arise. If you pay attention, do the homework, and ask questions, you will succeed in his class. I definitely recommend him if you want a better understanding of math.
Gave way too much homework each week. He will mark you down on your tests if your work is not up to his standards. Super boring in his lectures and would get mad if people do not participate or know the correct answer. He once got mad at my class for not doing a practice exam that he literally said was optional to do. Do not take this professor!!!!
He gave us way too much homework every week, like a max of 34 problems to do for homework every week. He would get mad if not a lot of students participated or knew the correct answer to a problem. We were a class of 25 students in the beginning, but by the end of the semester we were a class of 11. His class will not be an easy A.
Mr. Lines is an incredible Math Teacher. He really knows his stuff and cares about his students success after they leave his class. I would definitely take him again.
Mr. Lines is a great Math Teacher. He really knows math better than any instructor I have had before and I have learned so much in his class. One thing that sets him apart is that he truly cares about his students success after they leave his class. I would take him again.
I took Math 280 from Mr. Lines are few semesters ago. Looking back after taking the next math classes, I am so grateful I took Mr. Lines. His knowledge, experience, teaching style, and test preparation techniques thoroughly set me up for success in the future. He really cares about his students. Thank you Mr. Lines
Wow, I just saw a poor rating from December 20th and I cannot believe it, must be sour grapes from a lazy student. I was in this Linear algebra class and I found Mr. Lines to be so knowledgeable and helpful. I did well in his class getting an A- and I am no math genius. He explains everything so well so that you truly understand.
Mr. Lines is very laid back and easy going. I did not feel stressed out during the entire class, even when it got a little difficult. He helps a lot and wants everyone to pass. I am so glad I took his class.
I took Calc 2 a previous semester and struggled so hard I had to drop. I took Mr. Lines this semester and passed with an A. He is so generous with exams and his lectures are engaging. I cannot say enough good things about him. Take him you wont regret it!
He is a great teacher and I learned a lot from him.
The bad reviews he has are for people that are lazy. If you really want to work and learn to be better you should definitely take this class.
I learned so much from Professor Lines, I took this class before from another instructor and I couldn't get any of it. He really knows the material and that is what makes his class understandable. You should take him if you want to learn.
Mr. Lines explains things very thoroughly. His class is well organized and he gives lots of help.
He is a great teacher, he knows the material and explains it really well.
Get ready to learn excel despite calculators being a thing and it not being an excel class. The videos for instruction on what to do in excel appear to be using Excel '95. There are lectures for the first 3/4 of the class but they are largely unhelpful/very very basic. I ended up having to teach myself most of the material.
Had him last semester, and he's one of the more enjoyable math professors I've had. Having a laid-back personality, his teaching style may not be for everyone as it's more or less just him explaining the concepts and then doing the proofs behind them along with a few practice problems. Overall, I really enjoyed this class and would recommend it.
Lines has pretty high expectations when it comes to your ability to do math, especially in this class. Earning an A is possible, but you will have to really work for it. I do not recommend him to those who tend to skip class or not do hw.
I took Linear from another instructor and couldn't understand any of it. Professor Lines explains it so well and really knows his stuff. Now I understand how it all fits together. I saw an awful review, must be looking for a free ride. Linear algebra is a high level course and it takes some work. If you want to learn it you should take Lines.
This was a great class because Mr. Lines gives so much resources to help you get the concepts. He is very helpful, he really wants you to understand the material. His tests were challenging but very doable.
You don't have to know anything. You should know this is the right professor for any type of students!
Mr. Lines is a very organized teacher and an expert on the topic. I strongly recommend you take him.
This was the easiest class I ever took, and I learned a lot. Mr. Lines makes it easy to understand.
I went into this class thinking it might be difficult but his course was so easy to follow.
I have never had a better teacher for math, Mr. Lines is incredibly smart and explains things perfectly!
I took Calc I at Cuyamaca College and learned nothing. Mr. Lines made me fill in those holes, and I was able to do great in his class. He really knows the material and I would take him again. I strongly recommend him to others as well.
Had about 10 HW & 1 quiz each week for 6 weeks course in summer. Used Pearson MyLab, be prepared to drop 100$ (mandatory for hw/quiz). You can retry infinitely on HW to get 100% till due and retry 2-3 times for quiz/exam. He's a kind professor and responds quickly. Don't take this class for an easy A, you gotta put effort into it, but its worth it.
Mr. Lines is a great teacher, I really learned a lot from him class.
His class was so easy to follow. This class is not easy but he made it so much easier to understand with all of his lecture notes.
I've had better calc professors. He wasn't bad, he clearly has a lot of insight but if you're someone that thrives on structure and predictability, take someone else. He strayed from lecture outlines and talked about unrelated stuff quite often, fast-paced, but very lenient on homework. Tests are nearly identical to practice tests
The class is a bit hard, but you can tell he really cares about students. Constantly wants to make sure that everyone is following along and that everyone understands exactly what's going on on a fundamental level.
Not the best math professor, gave way too much homework, and made it hard to pay attention in lectures. Expects us to understand the material within 10 minutes, his teaching style made a lot of students drop his class because it was too much. Take someone else please!!
Uses the Pearson application for hw/exam/book. Lines is a fair professor who responds quickly to Canvas messages. You're responsible for all reading and hw/exams, Lines will offer specific info as needed but generally you lead yourself and take responsibility in knowing what to do and when it's due! I adored this course and highly recommend M.Lines
Used Pearson for all hw and tests ($100). Each week there were typically 2 diff sections of hw with around 10-15 questions, a written assignment (not weekly), & then a quiz all due on sundays. Tests were identical to hw questions but since online he had us turn in all work for every problem which was very time consuming (avg 3-5 hrs per test).
All lectures are prerecorded & severely lack any good explanations & goes over problems as if reading them off the textbook, no real explanations. Lectures are as bad as the background music. Too much homework, redundant problems. Won't check on any student. Will drop you in an instant. You're better off reading off the textbook & teaching yourself
Professor Lines uses pre-recorded lectures. I'm currently taking an all online class with him, and he ends his lecture videos with "I'll see you guys in class," clearly these are videos from other classes where he got to meet in person with his students. He expects you to know too much, be prepared to use a lot of your own time to learn the material
STAY AWAY. He thinks everyone is going to be a math major when that's not the case. Lectures are not helpful you have to teach yourself.
Professor Lines is my favorite professor at Grossmont. His class isn't the easiest, but you learn a lot by taking his courses. He could skim quickly over basic mathematical operations like algebra, but this is a 285 course so he expects you to know this stuff already. Overall, take him if you want to challenge yourself. If not, find someone else.
Although the class is quite tough, I do not take that as a reflection on the professor. He can be quite tough on his students if they are not putting in some sort of effort and if they are being lazy, which is fair. Despite that, he is a very caring professor who wants to see students succeed especially if they put attention to the class.
Extremely helpful, caring, and funny. He extends homework essentially until the end of the semester. He genuinely wants you to succeed, but his class was the hardest one I have taken yet and will push you to your limits depending on your level of competence leading up to the course. Take him if you want a challenge from a caring and kind professor.
One of the worst math professors. Do not take him. He does nothing but proofs, doesn't go over problems that you would see on the homework. You're better off teaching yourself. Take someone else. His practice exams are also nothing like it would be the exams. stay clear.
This class was incredibly difficult. He knew the class was really struggling but didn't slow down to re-teach concepts. He's not the most understanding and his tests are brutal. He's a fast grader though and allows late work, those were the only good things about his teaching style. Very difficult professor and did not empathize with students.
Prof has a PHD in math, very knowledgeable about the subject but teaching is NOT his thing. Averages for exams were 50% & lectures consisted of him going over proofs. Nice guy, great math skills, mediocre teaching, not great at helping students but he's available when you need him. Would rather eat decaying meat than take this class with him again.
no...just no...
Professor Lines is a fantastic math instructor. He's patient, kind, and supportive. He explains complex concepts clearly and goes deep into math proofs, which really helped me understand the material. He creates a great learning environment and truly cares about his students. I'm looking forward to taking another class with him. Highly recommend!
Lines knows his stuff well enough and teaches well for some students. All of my classmates loved him but he singled me out in the class and was constantly making jokes at my expense. I did something to annoy him, I dont know what, and he changed my grade for the final to 0%. I did not receive 0% because at first he put an actual grade in.
The lectures can be hit or miss, but with the help of the textbook and resources like unstuckstudy ai, you can succeed in this course. Stay on top of the homework and you'll learn a lot.
50% class quiz avg from two quizzes. got no partial for a quiz question done correct until i forgot to plug a - into my calculator which changed the answer. hw is a lot diff and harder then what gets shown in class. review was nothing like the exam. blabs about proofs all class. doesn't finish problems cuz its assumed you'll know how to finish them
He does proofs for fun and knows his stuff EXTREMELY well. He'll make you work but you'll definitely learn the material. This is the most educational class I've taken at Grossmont, but be sure to make the time, or you'll fail. Can be very rewarding when you do well, though.
I took Prof. Lines for Calc 2 and Calc 3 and he is an great pillar of support. He believes in his students and is always willing to help. He typically spends the first part of class on hw then moves on to a lesson. He is proof heavy and there's hw for every section of notes. I really like him overall and am planning to take him for differentials.
If you are looking for a real education in preparation for your STEM major/career, Michael Lines is your go-to Professor. That being said, if you are looking for an easy A, don't take his class. He's also very accommodating (he should be stricter in my opinion). Be ready to study a lot, but once you pass his class you'll be goated at math!
Took him for my first year in college. He is nice and supportive. Always asking if you need help. Only issue is that he expects YOU to come to class already having knowledge of the lesson prior as he expects you to watch his lesson videos the night before. Due to this he never taught in class. Also doesn't reply to emails. Expect quizzes and exams
Overall, he is a fantastic teacher but I will say he's not for everyone. He is a brilliant man and does things his own way that can be hard for some ppl to follow. But if you put in effort, he will work with you. He has plenty of office hours and you can always ask questions. For this class, you will have to study, it is a very hard subject.
Professor Lines is great. His lectures are pretty straightforward and it's obvious he cares about students' success. He will hold you to a very high standard and test/quiz you on everything. However, he provides ample resources. Be prepared to put a lot of time towards this class. He wants you to attend office hours for detailed feedback on tests.
This is my second class with Professor Lines, and I highly recommend him! Multivariable Calculus is a heavy class with a lot to cover, be ready, but he explains everything clearly. He's patient, kind, and truly cares about his students. The class is challenging but rewarding. Looking forward to taking more of his classes!
Good professor but you pretty much have to teach the material to yourself. His class' dynamics is to answer questions from homework. Homework is due by the end of the semester but make sure you do the corresponding chapter every week, if not you're going to get behind and be lost completely. He truly cares about students and explains lots of things
Prof Lines is a genuinely caring professor who will work with you to get you where you want to go. He has plenty of accommodations and offers office hours daily. He provides ample resources, but does expect you to come to class having already watched the videos, but IMO made the class SO much easier! Definitely recommend, but don't expect an easy A
This is probably the most university-like math experience you'll get. He does the proofs, he works through problems, and goes into a bit too much depth sometimes (stuff higher level courses talk about). But his exams are all fair. They are all based on the homework he gives you and sometimes he'll give very simple questions. Funny guy too
Very good professor, this class is the best experience at a small community college since it is the most university like in terms of material. He lectures well, dont be like me and procrastinate but stick with the class and you will be fine
The course often felt unorganized, and lectures did little to support my understanding. Although the exams were reasonable, there was little to no review to prepare for them, so be aware of that. Overall, this was pretty much a self study class. I earned my grade through my own efforts, not because of the instruction.
The course was pretty disappointing, it felt like a self study class. On exams, there was no time to review, and he also also didn't provide anything to help improve our grade. Mistakes, like on quizzes, can slowly lower your grade, making it harder to recover. Overall, he didn't prepare us for anything.
