Very good instructor, with very clear and thorough notes...a somewhat difficult marker. Young guy, so he can relate better with his students. Keeps class involved. (I don't think he likes Gordon Campbell)

A good teacher who knows his stuff. Just make sure you are good with math and don't get lost like I did with his fast-paced teaching style. I found he gave out way too many different formulas to calculate the same data sets.

Micheal is an excellent instructor,Very diligent. He changed my opinion that young prof cannot teach high level STAT courses well.In fact, he is very knowledgeable in his field. If you are a top student and interest in STAT, he is the guy you can talk to. Appreciate him a lot. learn much from him.

He is one of few instructors who know thier stuff. It's true he is going fast, but it's easy to understand if U pay attentoin even though U have't studied at all before class. Easy to get A if U are smart enough and make a effort.

It amazes me people find this class HARD. No teacher can make it hard. It's easy stuff. However, he actually teaches statistics, not mathematics. He makes you think about which calculations should be done, not how to do them. With minimal effort one can get a B+.

He is willing to help you. SOme of what he teaches is extraneous to the final exam and that's ALL that really matters. If you have him, i suggest finding out from students in other classes what is the MOST important. He is a hard marker but is reasonable and sometimes scales marks. VERY VERY helpful though

He really gives good notes, and his teaching method is really good that he makes sure you understand everything. His exams are not hard as long as you review what is on the notes and hw. But, remeber, attend all the classes or you may find it difficult to catch up because Stat is a challenging course.

First half of the course was easy to understand then last half I wanted to shoot myself. Carefull with wording on exams, and does the tricky questions on exams.

He was okay. Wouldn't say he is the worst but not he best either. His exams weren't too difficult but his teaching is horrible! He never gets to the point. It's good that he tries to put examples and "intros" to the topic that he is about to teach, but sometimes he spends too much time on it and never seems to get to the point!!

Very Cute Teacher, however, if you don't like Stat, don't take his course, b/c he taught very deep, and you have to think afterward. Ton of notes to copy, lot of info, but for mid-term and final just detail on his note and do all the excerises...if you are lost...ASK!!! he is very helpful

Mike is a great guy and a great teacher. Sometimes he talks a little fast (like too much coffee...)but just tell him and he'sll slow down. If you don't miss class and keep up with the practice questions, you'll succeed. Use his office hours as he is very helpful and approachable.

Don't know why he is getting such bad ratings... I am not very good with math/stats and I found him very good, his exams are almost identical to his quizzes, he does not try and "trick" you, he always helps in office hours. Make sure you go to class so you don't miss the notes though, its hard to catch up. Best math/stats prof ive had at langara!

No matter what many other students, Michael is good instrucotr, and a really really hard worker. He makes sure everyone gets the content, and has very organized notes, especially for this class. Problem is that he can be strict sometimes, and talks too fast on even somtimes when explaining key concepts. Really helpful guy.

Keeps me entertained during class. 2nd time taking a Stats course with this instructor. He's very passionate in statistics and teaches it very well. If you don't like him personally, you either a) suck at statistics b) don't even study at all c) has grudges against chinese people with accents. A very unbiased but hard marker. Hate the project!

He is a nice guy, enjoys helping students out but expect you to know every little detail. Extremely hard marker, mt avg were under 40%. Wouldn't recommend u taking him.

Gives really detailed notes and is really easy to understand.... but his notes and explanation don't really help during exams! Really anal about the way u answer exam/quiz q's. Our whole class is pretty much failing. Does not give any practice q's other than assignments (which are useless too). Don't take him unless you do everything like him too!

Overall a good prof. He is really good at explaining the concepts covered in the course and goes at a steady pace. If you attend class, pay attention, do the assignments and study his notes you will do well. He is a hard marker but he tells you what he wants so if you pay attention in class you will know what to expect.

Tips to do well: Show up for all classes, pre print all the notes he posts online, pay attention and ask questions, bring your calculator and use it, RE-review his notes and re do his assignments,do not argue with him about your mark,instead ask questions, show your effort, bonuses may be given! his class preps u for stat 3223!

he's not as bad as his bad ratings deem to be!took over our class from our original prof and I was sure so thankful he did!explains the concepts slowly & meticulously till we all get it!the course itself is easy if u get the basics right!but I lost marks coz of the group project!one thing which is bad is he gives pop quizzes with no warning!!

He teaches well, and his note is very clear, but that's all. The worst part is "the exam is damn hard", and you need to attend all the class to make sure that you won't miss quizes. Therefore, better not take his class if you want high mark except you have take his class before, you need to get used to his style.

You MUST attend all lectures, else you'll be lost. You MUST do all assignments and projects, else your marks will plummet. You MUST do the project. You MUST follow instructions. This sounds like what a good student should do. He's an excellent instructor. Stop whining & complaining that you didn't follow instructions or sought help when needed.

Such a HARD marker. Very picky. Eg: took marks off for not stapling homework to taking marks off for not wording things exactly the way he wants you to. He explains things very well, I was actually able to understand material. Must attend every class, memorize his lecture and notes, and follow all his rules to get a good grade...it think.

You will nearly think your life is over if you care about getting a good grade in this class, but in the end, if you try extremely hard every single class, you will get the grade you need and you will realize how much you learned.

Hes one of those teachers you're lucky to stumble across. He enjoys teaching the material and he is extremely helpful and clear in what he expects. He seems like a tough marker because there's only exact answers for stat material, but he is fair and continually pushes you to get the material correct by the end of the term.

Knew that I was not a big fan of statistics going into his class. He made it fun and bearable. Text book is useless, show up to all classes and read his notes you will do fine.

He teaches the material extremely well and uses an amazingly helpful note package. However, he is very picky on wording when it comes to exams and assignments. His exams are ok, but you have to word your answers exactly how he likes or you're wrong. Assignments are way harder than the examples in the notes and marks very hard on the project.

I can understand why students give him a bad rating but in my opinion he's the best prof I've had so far. He is extremely picky and everything has to be in the format he gives you but it makes it easier; you know what he's looking for. His lectures are long but they are worth it and he . Great teacher! He uses the flipped classroom method of teaching, which is amazing. Make sure you read the notes and do the pre-worksheet before every class and you will do great. If you don't, you won't understand in class and you'll fall behind.

Great prof! His notes, weekly assignments and group project really prepared me well for the final. We did not use the textbook. Instead, we used notes that he provided.

I think Michael's teaching style is really good for students who came to class prepared. Every class you are expected to read the previous module for upcoming iclicker questions. Overall I would say just finish reading the material before class and you will do really fine. There are homework every week but shouldn't be too hard if you put effort.

Michael cares about all his students and is the happiest person I have ever met. You don't have to look at the notes to learn, just pay attention during his lectures which feel like a high school class! He has a lot of assignments and tests but if you work hard you will be fine. He does have a problem wording things properly.

Michael is very approachable and had a lot of enthusiasm during lectures! Come to class with the readings done. Make sure you understand his notes which contain practice questions and answers that are the same format as quizzes and tests. Weekly homework assignments, one group project, 4 term tests, and a final. Easy marker, great prof!

Mechael may not be the best stat teacher in Langara, but he definitely is my favourite one. He gives you a lot of practices with the answer key, and that prepares you well for the midterms and final exam. I recommend him to hard-work students who expect a good mark. As long as you do his question, the test will be fine. btw, he is cute and funny

Michael is a gem of a stats prof! If you've never taken stats before I would strongly recommend him. He looks beyond the textbook and course outline, and desires to make students understand the application of the material they are learning in real life scenarios. He LOVES what he does and it is shown through his teaching.

He's very enthusiastic when giving the lecture. Even sometime he pushes students to much and make s us a little bit stress but it really helps me prepare well for the final exam. His lecture note is very detailed.

Michael is a great teacher. This course is NOT easy so be prepared to dedicate time to study. There is a mandatory project, Homeworks are long, and there is a quiz after every class, so if you do everything you will have no problem in understanding. He might seem tough; but really cares and is always willing to help if you have any doubts.

Great teacher. He has an English accent, and sometimes it is hard to understand but he is available and he explains how many times is necessary. The workload is heavy, prepare yourself. It is a hard class, but if you pay attention and do all the quizzes and homework, the exams will not be THAT difficult. You are allowed to bring a cheat sheet.

He really wants his students to pass the exam. He gives 10% marks for class participation which is quite a high marks which is a good thing. He gives extra time during his office hours and in class you can ask your doubts too. He is little fair (or tough) grader but the course is hard too so might not be his fault. I recommend studying from him.
