Seems to read word for word from the text and unorganized too.
i thought he was very enjoyable... if you are a girl and you take this class, you will not want to miss a day. You will see why. Yes he does read from the book, but if you get him talking about other things, it will be clear that he knows what hes doing.
Great professor.
Enjoyed this class more than I can tell you .... yes I am a girl .... Mike is great!! Oh, and He's a good teacher too.
Best teacher at Miramar! He's young and hot! What impressed me was not only his knowledge of the topic but the knowledge of wordly affairs. Its a great class for socratic seminar. Take good notes in this class and you'll get an A for sure.
Mike is an awsome guy. He makes it as easy as possible to learn. He has the ability to break down the complex concepts into real world practicalities. In addition, he is good at adapting to class discussions (usually off topic) but makes a lesson of it.
very laid back, makes class kinda fun, knows his material and how to teach it very well.
Sometimes rambles, but always intelligently.
he's cute! and he's alright as a teacher...
do the homework problems and dont get behind on ur works and u will do well.He is very nice and easy going and not too tough on grading.for girls he is hot but not for me bc iam a guy.
An awsome, funny, laid back and incredibly smart guy. Well organized and gets the class involved in discussions. Gives out a reasonable amount of work, but is to your own benefit. This was one of the few classes I actually looked forward to!

very good teacher
good teacher, very laid back, i would recommend him to anyone
mike is pretty chill. he discusses everything clearly and is pretty laid back. if he taught other subjects in my major would take him in a second. he's young so he's always talking bout everyday life

hottie! makes class fun and interesting. don't get behind on your hw, show up to class and you'll be good.
Very good teacher expalins things and is very clear and is a nice guy makes the class fun
Very cool teacher. Very clear and the lectures are interesting when people get involved. Study notes and participate and you'll get an A or B.
lost a first, but if you take all the notes for the test review then it should be no problem getting an A. lots of interesting topics covered and it definitely gets you thinking. great topics and great professor...he makes it easy to understand.
Presented subject matter in a very conversational way. Funny guy, really relaxed. Gave great study guides, tests not too hard. Mostly vocab. Would take his classes again.
Good teacher. Fun guy, a little monotone but better than some alternatives. He makes sure that you understand material and goes over tests. Fairly easy class too.
I did not know what the heck was going in this class, but if you study what he says to study and understand some of the concepts going on you will get an A- I used notecards, got an A on every tests- not helpful out of class but a good guy
Good class, it's fun and he will always allow you to argue your point if you think your right, only if you argument is Logical.
Nice guy- fair " do not htink u will get an easy A"- as long as u go to class and participate (hmk also) you will do great- he's a great teacher- a little bit unorganized
This class was great! He made class very interesting, aside from the fact he was a very good looking teacher!
This class was hard. It was hard because he spent more than half of the class talking about his coaching and about the hurricanes while not trying to evoke any critical thought on the part of his students. Got pissed when 1/2 the class failed the first test, but go figure...
As long as you go to class and LISTEN, you'll pass. He has class discussions about whatever the class wants to talk about... it IS philosophy. He's an easy going teacher. There are three tests and a term paper.... the final is optional.
goodlooking man :)extremely easy class. he starts the class talking about anything you want and then eases into the subject. barely studied and i passed with flying colors.
I use what I learned from this class in my everyday experiences. Explains material clearly and gives great examples from different perspectives. Go to class, takes roll, homework and journals, a term paper, and clear tests. He tells you what to study so you aren't lost and confused. Good class. I recommend it.
Good class. Yummy teacher!! Bring a bib ladies, you may end up drooling the whole class. Classes went along with the book, so it was easy to follow. I would recommend him for any Philosophy class. Very laid back, and a sweet guy! Too bad he isn't single...yum!
I was completely lost at first, but then started understanding. If you need to take a philosophy class, than take one with Mike. He is a laid back nice guy, a good teacher and my brother says he's a great soccer coach.

Awesome guy. Challenging class if you don't put effort into it. Interesting subject, he's big on class participation, he explains everything very well. He's very very nice on the eyes.
Lopez is really great! The class subject is extremely hard so be prepared to spend a lot of time studying and doing the homework. He really values class participation. He made every class interesting becuase he starts off with current events. He has a terrific sense of humor and he is quite handsome. I highly recommend him because you will learn!!!
Fantastic class. Really makes you analyze your ethics. Uses the book but reading assignments are at most 10 pages. He is very intelligent and sheds a lot of light on the ambiguous subject of ethics. I want to take his logic class now. You will enjoy but do not miss class...they are too important
HE IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD LOOKING! :) NO WONDER I ENJOYED THE CLASS SO MUCH! BESIDES THAT, HE'S A REALLY GOOD TEACHER. HE'S FUNNY TOO! BEST TEACHER EVER!
He's the best professor I've ever had and I've almost reached an Asscociate Degree. He's fair, objective and informative and real easy on the eyes, really a looker.
A very challenging class unless you are willing to do the reading and the critical analyses. Definitely makes you a SMARTER person by taking his class. Big on class discussion. A very good lecturer:=) Do not slack off or it will haunt you. Grades you on midterm, final, essay, journal entries, and participation. An A is definitely not out of reach.
Awesome teacher. Loved how everyday was different by starting with what WE wanted to talk about. Class is confusing at first, but definitely a critical class if you like to think. Assignments are pretty easy if you read what your supposed to read also. He likes poems?
An excellent teacher. Assignments are easy to manage, as long as you do them. Readings aren't too difficult as well. Interesting class discussions. Class is easy to follow (not even my major), but can be dull sometimes. This class really changed my way of thinking.
He was a good professor. His tests were kind of hard though.I'd study one thing but then his exams would be completely different from what I'd study.
He's too good-looking to be a professor. But good class.
Great teacher. I definately recommend him. Very good lectures. Involved in his students. A little late getting back to his students in terms of homework assignments, but rather than that, he is an awesome teacher. By the way, HE IS VERY CUTE.
He is funny and likes philosophy a lot. His lectures aren't boring and can be very defensive of philosophers. When I emailed him, I got an firm, you-should-be-more-responsible, you-aren't-getting-it kind of tone. Overall, he is a good professor, but assigns a lot for a lower division class.
prof.lopez is a great guy, he is very smart and knows his stuff, I really like the class and made me smart, the exams are kind hard but if you study hard it is a fun class .
great teacher, nice guy, patient, learned alot but might have enjoyed less class jabber from students
This guy is pretty cool. His class does involve work though, beware of that. If you are willing to put in the work you'll walk away with knowledge and a pretty good grade.
Excellent class and great teacher. Lopez has you think about things you've never considered before. He's very thought provoking and the way he articulates his thoughts is clear and intriguing. The class is a bit challenging but just keep up with the readings and you should be fine.
Awesome instructor!!!!!!His lectures are never boring, everything he teaches has application in everyday life. Besides, he's handsome and has a great sense of humor.
This class was a breeze, but I learned a lot of valuable life skills from Lopez. He is a very smart man and knows what he is talking about. The class discussions are great. If you show up to class and follow along with the homework you will do fine. Don't wait until the last minute to do the research paper though!
Cool teacher and a funny guy. Talks a lot and you've gotta listen and study the material if you wanna pass.
he is unbelievably GORGEOUS!!!!!! i dont think i'll be able to pay attention because I just stare at him!! BUT he is brilliant and knows what he's talking about. TAKE HIM.
Horrible teacher. Goes way off topic and talks just to hear the sound of his own voice. Class discussions are pointless because he does most of the talking. 3 tests are given and then a final. He drops the lowest grade. The final is easy. Homework is time consuming. There is a 6-8 page paper assigned and he doesn't talk about til the end.
very easygoing teacher !!
Extremely gorgeous! I got a C in the class but that was my own fault. I'm pretty sure if I had studied like he said I would have an A. Not only is he good to look at but he actually cares about what he is teaching and his students. As long as you do the HW and study you will do good in the class!! I wish I could have him for all my classes!
I enrolled in this class because it is included in my GE courses, now i love it. Lopez makes the class interesting by holding laid back open discussions at the beginning of every class where he and students can give their ethical opinion. Only hw are journals every week which is great. He's also very easy on the eyes so that's a plus!
This class requires work. The teacher assigns a reading and you are supposed to read and interpret it. It is an extremely interesting topic. This teacher moves fast through class and doesn't write things down in class. However, if you participate in the discussions and ask questions he helps you try and understand an idea better. Good teacher.
he is extremely hot!!! but besides that hes a really good teacher.. the class is not hard as long as you do all the homework. the tests are no suprise and are not that difficult either. i recomment this class! :)
Very good teacher and person. Learned how to adjust my frame of mind and widen my perspectives. He knows his stuff and has really insightful life advice regarding ethics, morals, and critical thinking. I walked away with more than a GE req, i walked away with very valuable wisdom!HIGHLY recommend!
Challenging but always willing to help you improve and provides great feedback. Helped me with some issues I was having w/ another professor and will help you with anything in his class or out of it.
Not an easy class, but it is definitely possible to achieve a good grade. If you read the book and do your assignments, you will be fine. He offers extra credit assignments too. he may not be the best teacher in explaining the materials, but he is good enough. Also he tries to help you, when you have questions. Overall, he is a good professor.
Mike is an excellent educator. I took his ethics class and it changed my thinking. The material is difficult but fulfilling. If you are serious about learning, I would recommend any of Mike's classes. He is inspiring and has helped me change my outlook on life. Do not take his class if you are a slacker, you will not survive.
Took Lopez for Ethics. He really got me into the material. He definitely broadens your outlook on life. Does a good job of explaining philosophy to students (which can hurt your head sometimes). Class was challenging but well worth it.
Lopez is great! I took his ethics class and he was really interesting and very good with philosophy. He can argue against any point you give him which makes him a great teacher for ethics. His class is challenging but if you do the journals and research paper, you'll be fine. I would take him over any philosophy prof.
Lopez is on point. Very crystal clear when he speaks. He can jibber jabber for a long time though. Very opinionated. Smart and knows it. Extremely fair and helpful. Very good at making you feel like a turd if you interupt his class. He tells you exactly what is on the test and how to pass.Do what he says and you will get an A.Very Qualified!!
Lopez is a fantastic teacher and and very smart guy. Listen to what he says and you will easily pass. If you aren't interested in philosophy i suggest not taking this class. He grades based upon your own personal growth throughout the class.
Absolutely amazing teacher. I had no interest going into this class but I really learned a lot. He is very helpful and very interesting. Always have great discussions in class, basically what the class is an the homework is right out of the book. Not to mention, he is super hot, which makes it much easier to want to be in class
Professor Lopez seriously makes me LOL sometimes. I love his rebuttals and his comebacks are absolutely hilarious! He does make you work for your grade but if you pay attention, go to every class, and do all your homework, it's a piece of cake. This professor is very intelligent and you can see his passion for this subject. Definitely recommended.
This was a tough topic for me, my brain hurt, and you have lots of h/w. Lots of concepts too. This teacher is tough, is extremely passionate, and really knows his topic. He will take his time to explain. Logic really opened up my mind and gave me awareness. Excited to take his World Religion Class next semester.
He really likes to hear himself talk. You don't really use the book at all, we used one full chapter, about 30-40 pages, the entire semester. He doesn't give out grades for HW, you do weekly journals, but he tells you pretty much exactly what is going to be on the exams so just study the guides he gives out and you'll be fine.
This class was very interact among students/teacher, he is so great professor, and he help if you care about your grade and learning. I learned a lot. It was a difficult class because I am not native american, but it was very interesting, a lot of critical thinking. Very intersting. I am glad that I took the class although I passed with C.
Took him for Huma 106. Really nice guy and super sexy. I ended up dropping the class but he's a really good teacher.
Logic class is hard and the text book we used was complex too. Luckily, this teacher can simplify some of the esoteric terms and concepts that are bothersome. Good teacher and I cant complain about em. Yet, logic is a tough subject, and I barely passed with a C.
Outstanding professor. I took this class a few years ago as my first introduction to philosophy and am now majoring in the subject. Excellent at explaining concepts, creating a comfortable learning environment, and holds students accountable. Overall, a very wise man!
Outstanding professor! This professor takes the time to thoroughly discuss learning points from each assignment in a manner which his students can relate to. I have had him for three classes now and can see how he tailors his class to his students. He also makes the class very interesting. I wish there were more professors like him.
Extremely knowledgable great teacher. Only draw back was that this was a tough subject for me. I would recommend taking 102A (ethics) instead, it seems easier. I recommend this teacher though. You will learn a lot and will get a good grade if you work for it and participate in class.
ONE OF THE BEST!!! He understands that some people are stronger in some areas than others. His lectures are great because he'll explain the material several different ways to make sure that everyone gets it. After explaining it 5 different ways he'll really break it down if there are still some that look lost. He's patient, charismatic and funny
"Goods of the Mind" You will understand what this means if you take this class. The content can be challenging, but the prof demonstrates how it is applies to us. The hw is thought provoking and prepares one well for the exam. WTD with the HOT rating on this site? Very good looking gent, but so professional and intelligent it doesn't matter.
Very helpful in discussing religious topics and even makes you have an open mind. Flexible on due dates and will try to help you get the best grade possible. Would highly recommend. Better than average looking, but not red hot chili pepper hot, since everyone else is addressing that.
AMAZING!!!! HIGHLY recommend. Engaging, thought-provoking discussions, will open your mind and change your life! Extremely clear on expectations, not difficult to get an A. If you take ANY class from him, you will not be disappointed! LOVE this professor- wise with an awesome perspective!
Makes class really interesting! Wish he taught more classes. Drops lowest test score. Do the hw and you will do well on the test!
Pretty straightforward class. Homework, review, a few tests, and frequent small talk. I could see that he connected with his students. Respectable teacher, although he was a bit of a socialite demagogue at times. He's a bit stiff with seemingly uncaring 17-19 year old students. "Pretend you care" is his common plea for them. To the rebels: avoid.
He's a good teacher, however, he was always late and made it seem like he was doing the class a favor. Comes across as a little be cocky and self-absorbed.
Phil is a hard subject. I took 1 day a week class, so we would do the homework first, then he would discuss it afterwards. When he discusses the topics in class it makes sense. Study. Study. Study. The tests make you think! he is a good teacher, I liked him as a teacher, just not the subject!
I have mixed feelings about Lopez; some days the lectures were informative, and others it felt like he just didn't want to be there. Can come across as condescending and the material can be confusing, but by the time of the test you should feel confident about the info. Assignments can be tedious and the tests can be difficult. Take Muir instead
Don't be deceived by his amazing looks. Yes, he's good looking but that's it. He's a cool dude but really strict. ATTENDANCE MATTERS and DO NOT BE LATE. He's strict on that and lectures the class like little kids when we are. He lectures all class period about the reading that is necessary to pass the class. Also expect a lot of writing.
You want an A. Be prepared to seriously work for it. The class will leave you with far more questions than answers. Dont try to be clever either there is no room for that, let your work speak for itself; and dont be sensitive about the comments. You may actually learn something. Other than that, he gives you what you need to pass.
Its easy to get A if you attend to class everyday and do your homework.
Philosophy is a difficult subject for me because of all the concepts so I was lost in class. Lectures the whole time and sometimes boring, it can be interesting on some days. Be prepared to read a lot and write a journal (1.5-2 pages) every week. Midterm/final/term paper are difficult but he gives a study guide. Just study A LOT, ended with a B
Professor Lopez is an incredible professor. Very straight forward and logical. He provides everything you need to pass the class. Students below who claim he didn't use his time efficiently to cover the material probably didn't pay attention in class. Read and do the work, as any college student should. Reasonable amount of work for honors students
Mike is really cool and makes the class really interesting. He makes every concept in the textbook extremely easy to understand in his lectures. The tests are hard even if you study for them, mainly because the material itself is confusing. The homework is an easy A and the writing assignment should be started early in the semester. Great class.
I took his online Philosophy 102A course. He is a tough grader. I already had a background in philosophy when I took this course. I was already familiar with the readings. On the first day he stated that roughly 25 percent of people drop the class and another 25 percent fail. Expect to get a B or C.
I took his online 102A course over summer. Over eight weeks there were thirteen journals, ten discussions, a midterm, a term paper, and a final. He makes you work for the grade. I probably totaled around 15,000 words written. I recommend him if you're actually interested in philosophy.
Great Professor. Hardest class ever.
Took his online class. I found it super hard to get an A. Too much writing, tons of homework. The class itself was boring and tedious. Don't take it online, take it in person. Many people don't pass the online class.
He is one the best teacher I have ever had.
If you need structure and direction in a class, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. Crazy vague, I mean like really no guidance. bulky assignments. No quizzes! Just midterm and final (40% of grade) to test your understanding. Hes nice enough and if youre good with independent learning and winging it, then you could be fine.
I took professor Lopez for values ethics, and I can say that he is a phenomenal professor for this class. He makes the class enjoyable and is very knowledgeable about the topic. His class is not an easy A, as you will have to do the readings and journals to get a good grade. If you put in the work you will get results. Make sure you go to class too
Taking his class is more like a test of your strength of will. Class is 90% lecture & 10% q&a. Frequently, Lopez will discuss what ever banal topic a student asks and it becomes tedious to listen to. TL;DR Do the journals and focus on study guides and you will be get a low A. Class is just boring and monotonous because of his style.
One of the best professors I have had at Mira mar. Extremely intelligent and makes lectures interesting. Tests were easy given you know the material. Homework can be procrastinated until test which is a +. Take his class, youre not going to find a better PHIL professor.
Hard class but professor does a great job in lecture explaining everything. Ask questions if you're confused but listen during lecture because you might answer your own ? if you just listen to his lecture. Honors contract emphasized term paper. Doing homework ON TIME helps with lectures. 3/4 tests (one dropped). Little to no extra credit. Take him.
Will not post grades online and doesnt seem to care very much on helping students out.
Very smug. He loves to hear himself speak even though what he's talking about is nonsense.
It might be a philosophy professor thing: but his feedback on assignments can be confusing, abstract, and bizarre at times when he goes on a ramble about your work. There was some effort trying to decipher exactly what hes looking for, as he is very particular. 6-8 page term paper due at end of semester, and two exams which are essentially essays
He is a witty smarta but he knows his philosophy, tries to be humorous and is actually funny to an extent. Quizzes were okay but got more difficult with each one (trick questions). Have one essay the entire semester.
I have taken many philosophy classes and Prof. Lopez has been one of my best teachers. I am taking the online course right now and it is well structured and difficult but very interesting. He is willing to push back on thing and critique your thinking process. He teaches strategies to help with comprehending difficult readings. Hard but recommended
I took this class Fall 2019, if the class is in person you must show up and be on time or else he will take percentage off your grade. There is a 2 page reflection on a short reading due every week and discussions are fun and interesting. Study Guide & review is provided for midterm and final pretty easy. There is a 10pg paper due for the final.
He might be a better teacher in the classroom, but I took an asynchronous online class from him... it was hands down the worst set up canvas page I've ever seen, you can't find the timeline for the readings that you have to do discussion boards and journal entries on every other day, literally every other day, which is the worst schedule. awful.
This was my first philosophy class in general so it was hard to figure out everything I was reading but from time to time he would have notes for us to look at which were helpful. Doesn't give a lot of feedback, but grades very fair. He would send book pages if we didn't have the book at first and allows set meetings if you need help as well.
Each week there is a reading and then a journal response. the more effort you put into the journals the higher he will grade. Not hard to get a good grade as long as you fully participate and put in effort. Very knowledgable and the assignments give a comprehensive scope of philosophy.
An amazing professor I took PHIL102B online and the course set up was super organized and helpful. He is very straightforward & is very great at helping students. There is a 1-2 page journal and disc every week. It's an easy A if you put thought & effort into your work. Also, the exams are a bit heavy but you should be fine if you read the textbook
Took this as a summer course, so it was condensed. It really was one of the hardest things I've done in my life, but I managed. This is not a class you can wait until the last day to do your assignments or else you will not have a good time. Learned some stuff, read lots of stuff.
I thoroughly enjoyed this course and the way that everything was set up for the semester. This teacher took the time to write us out a packet of notes to help us connect all the readings and pushed us to think critically about philosophical ideas. I recommend this teacher. The class involves a lot of writing and reading.
Had a random memory of Prof. Lopez, I took his philosophy course three years ago. This is more feedback for him than a warning for others. It's an enjoyable class; the material is great and discussions can always be fun, but man does he sound uninspired and bored. It turns people off the subject when your professor feels he is above teaching at CC.
I would not recommend this class if you are a busy student. This was by far one of the hardest class I have ever taken. The work load for the class is unbelievable. You will have a reading, a discussion board, and an essay every week. Maybe even two times a week. The professor is not a fast grader and does not give good feedback for improvement.
Took and dropped 101 previously. Gave incredibly condescending assignment feedback despite being a 101 class and was the kind of prof that brags about the percentage of students who drops his classes. Slow grader, disorganized coursework and classmates said it was like swimming in the dark. Took 102 and nothing has changed.
I thought Prof. Lopez's class was easy, however I often found his expectations to be unclear. His questions for homework were vague and often it seemed as though he cared more about the length of your work rather than the quality. Luckily, the workload was light and the structure of the class was consistent.
Fortunately, he is a good professor. He has a good attitude. He will still give you more points if you put more effort into your work. His discussion assignments may be too boring, but they are so easy because when you thoroughly discussed the reading you'd read, and you'd thoroughly respond to your two classmates, you'll get full points.
He has really amazing an insightful lectures. One of my most interesting college classes by far! You must actually read the material and put effort into his class in order to pass. Apply his crituqes on essays and you should be fine, don't take if you want a laid back class with minimal work. His way of teaching is oldschool but very simple!
Grade = 20% participation/homework, 20% essay, and 20% for three midterms. Final can replace your worst midterm+extra credit opportunity to boost a bad midterm. Lectures are spent going over homework& hw = textbook-heavy (can pass not reading entire chapters and only reading what you need). Professor Lopez is funny but can seem uppish to some.
Tough grader. Course layout was easy to follow. Journals feel a bit repetitive. Overall I would have taken a different class had I known how much reading and writing and perfection was expected.
Easy to follow but consistency and participation on your part are NECESSARY. If you do not like reading, I recommend taking a different course.
Challenging but rewarding class. Lots of reading and writing, but the lectures are insightful. Using unstuck AI along with the textbook really helped with the workload.
Good teacher
Amazing teacher, I cannot recommend people enough to take his courses. Be warned, you'll need to be present and do some writing, but never something excessive. His manner of teaching is always incredibly rewarding, he shows no subjective biases in his lectures and remains objective. His lessons are some I'll carry with me for the rest of my life.
He is a very understanding and educated professor. He is very knowledgeable on the topic of philosophy which makes learning easy. The class doesn't have that many assignments so getting everything turned in is important. The tests can also be difficult so make sure you study very well.
He's good and a fair professor. He cares about his students and is understanding. Just don't procrastinate, and you should be fine with the readings and assignments.
Professor Lopez takes himself too seriously. Called out students for “disrupting the class” while they were simply typing notes. The tests were poorly worded and the grading on the final essay was random with no feedback.
Great professor. This class was generally easy, just don't slack and make sure you are getting in depth and being thorough with your assignments if you want to receive the maximum amount of points.
Overall the class was neither here nor there. I believe this would be a great in person class, but the fact that it was online made it feel grueling. This one class almost took as much time as all my others combined. Lots of reading(since we didn't have lectures) and lots of writing(since we could not discuss in person). He is caring and helpful.
