This teacher is one who loves to lecture all period. He jumps around and doesn't leave much time for questions.
great instructor. loves the subject. very open to questions, very helpful. overall great guy!
He is a hard teacher, with some softness to him. Come prepared to write, yet learn interestering facts about history.
He's a great teacher. He makes the usually boring subject of history interesting, and worth learning.
The smile on his face doesn't mean you'll get a good grade. Be ready to meet a hard teacher , and even extra-credits won't help.
Take this class for an easy "A".
hes hot...but as a teacher he could be better...he jumps around alot...n doesnt leave time for questions...crams alot of things at the last min.
i think lorenz was a wonderful teacher if you have question he will answer them even if he himself has to search for them and bring them next class... he is funny at time you will definitly laugh a couple times and he puts things that happen in the past into what they would be like now so the student can get a clear understanding! TAKE HIM! YOU WON
gives too much background
An awesome teacher! He knows his facts, and yet still makes class interesting. He loves his subject, and is very, very helpful. He gives lots of extra credit choices (one of them was watching bravheart!)
Learned a lot!
He is a wonderful teacher! He is also a great person. Take him for an interesting class and you'll have fun. Oh yeah, he's kind of hot!!!
If you are not interested in history but you still need the class don't take him, find another teacher. He knows his stuff but gives a lot of time to things that arn't even on the test.
This teacher was hard if you are not interested in history. you have to read the book in order to get a good grade on the quizes. He gives a 5 question quiz every week. sometimes twice a week. and then he assings essays that are really hard to do if you didnt read the book because you have to answer specific questions from the book for the essay
Lorenz is a really good teacher, he tends to be a little goofy at times, but overall is a fair teahcer. His exams are based solely on the lectures he gives in class. The essays he gives are easy too, all you have to do is read the assigned book, and you will already know all of the answers. I would take his class again.
He is a great teacher! Very positive! Make you sure read the assigned reading because he gives quizzes! His tests aren't easy but he offers cool extra credit! He shows funny clips and is very excited about the topic he is teaching!
Mr. Lorenz made class fun. He gave examples of everthing he went over, and gave study tips as well. Got my best grade in this class.
He's soo awesome n is a great goofy guy. He made history soo funn. Greatest professor I've ever had take him !
The class is very simple but if you aren't interested in history don't take him. His lectures tend to be very long and uninteresting.
If you want an easy grade, maybe you should reconsider college, but you want to learn a little bit, take Lorenz. Just keep up with the reading assignments for the quizzes and pay attention to the lectures and you will do fine. He loves what he teaches and is quite interesting, however he tends to get behind and cram at the end, so be prepared
He loves history and it shows. it is not an easy class, but if you pay attention, take good notes, keep up with the reading assgnments you should do well. He tends to go off and tell stories, that are kinda relevant to topic, but this leads to cramming later in class(es)
I suck at history even though I'm interested in the subject. With his help I was able to pass when I thought I would fail. If you're struggling in class go talk to him. Scan notes from the library prior to class. Quizzes are easy if you read carefully. Tests can be easy. If there's a difficult question he helps the class. Very helpful in general!
By far the greatest history teacher. History is his passion & has stories and analogies to relate.often gives a few answers away for tests and quizzes, pushes back test dates too. Listen to his lectures, they are so interesting and you will learn a lot. Notes are at the library. John Adams book is required. Oh ya, he's kinda silly and goofy!
Great teacher. Really laid back. Super nice guy.
despite of the fact that ther r lotta readin hw, he is overall great teacher. I'm one of international students, then wen i went to his office to tell him that I was struggling of quiz, he gave me an alternative work in which it was much easier 4 me to deal wiz.i think it doesn't really matter whethr ur frm differen country tho!TAKE HIM!
Can someone tell me if you have to write papers for the classes he teaches in History 17 A & B?
He's really easy, though he requires A LOT of reading. Doesn't assign homework aside from reading and your final paper (as long as you participate in class). Tests are easy and have a lot of T/F questions. Books are a necessary. He quizzes you on reading everyday, but they are easy as long as you read the material. He also offers extra credit.
great teacher! reading is required but once you get into the book it's actually kind of interesting. i did the extra credit and got a B!
Mr. Lorenz is serious about his teaching. If you read your assignments sit in the front of the class you will do well. He has notes in the library you can copy or if you bring a USB he will transferr all notes to it. He uses great pictures in his notes.Very easy to talk to. He will give you extra credit assignments if you are falling behind.
Mr. Lorenz really is passionate about history and his lectures are interesting. The problem is that he gives a LOT of reading..we read 3 different books plus lecture chapters and the were times where it was really overwhelming. His critical analysis paper almost gave me a heart attack. I just cant take him again.Too much work with other courses.
Very good teacher! Not the easiest class but you can see his passion for the subject when he lectures. Very helpful. Very nice and understanding. Only think would be that you definitely want to attend class and read the primary source he assigns you. Would definitely love to take his class again!
Lorenz is an amazing teacher. He's laid back, really funny and very helpful when it comes to assignments. It's very important to keep up with the assigned readings because there are frequent quizzes. He tends to stray from lecture topics and frequently has to adjust the schedule. Participation is vital. Overall it's a great class, very informative.
Professor Lorenz is simply there to pile on a ton of work. He speeds through lectures, gives you a ton of information you don't need, and assigns two to three readings every class session. There are also frequent quizzes.
Im taking his hist 17a class and so far there are so many assignments and reading to do. His teaching is very fast paced.
Great professor. Lots of reading and a paper on your topic selection. He starts a lot of interactive discussions and you'll learn a bunch about international politics. He is respectful towards his students when they have questions. Nice guy.
Great teacher, class is easy as long as you show up take notes and pay attention.
Professor Lorenz is one of the coolest History teachers! I love that he is passionate about what he does, becasue it always makes the class a lot more enjoyable! I think he's funny, smart, and very handsome. He makes history easier to learn about and his stories are entertaining. He's not bad at all to look at! Reading 50pgs every class was not bad
Too many notes, each section of notes is 20-30 pages long. He gives too much info, most of the time you don't need to know it. Has to change his tests because we didn't have enough time to cover it all. Lots of readings, homework, quizzes and extra assignments. I wouldn't take him!!
Gives a lot of reading. Easily gets off topic. Let's you chose between verbal or written participation but if your not really loud he will ignore you so opt for written. Is approachable and will help but grading can seem arbitrary at times.
Be ready to read. We had to juggle THREE books for his class on top of other classes and responsibilities. He knows his history really well but expects you to teach yourself at home with the notes he emails you at the beginning. Extra credit is there and if you need help he's very helpful and nice. Just be ready to teach yourself.
Great Historian, great professor, terrible habits. Does not cover notes as much as promised, and all tests are based of of his notes. Jumps around too much in class. Fun, you will learn something, but you might get screwed out of points if you do not stay on top of your own grades.
Excepts a lot of out of his students. Reading is a must if in order to pass his class, gives pop quizzes on reading assignments every week. Assigns 3 books to read the first two are his choice and the third is the students. Requires students to write a 5-6 page on selected books. However, he dose offer many chances of extra credit. good luck!
He only tests on what he goes over in class so take a few notes. Honestly, It was a fairly easy class. Make sure you read though.
Would take another one of his classes. Interesting material, enjoyed class and lectures, enjoyed one of the required texts, "John Adams", didn't really care for the other, "Crosscurrents". Overall a great class though.
Professor Lorenz is not only an outstanding professor but he is one of those instructors that has your best interest at heart. His lectures are clear, he does challenge you however but this is college so should embrace the challenge. Highly recommend for everyone especially history majors seeking mentorship
I've never seen a Professor so into what he does. History is Lorenz's passion and the way he teaches makes that clear. He was very open to others opinions, loves class discussions, even helps out on exams. Offers lots of extra credit too! But it was not an easy class and came with quite some work, but hey, it's a History class. Highly Recommended!
His class was always very interesting and fun, he makes you read like 3 books almost at the same time. It may sound hard, but trust me, I honestly didn't think I was going to make it through, because all that reading. But it was a piece of cake! And I would totally take his class again!
More like an English class. You read 2 books on top of your text book and have papers due frequently. Pop quizzes on the 600 page john Adams book he assigns. Gets off topic and behind on his lectures alot. I had to retake this class over summer.
I have had him 2 semesters for Hist 17B and Hist 4A. Despite the fact that he is super hot, he assigns a lot of ready. Its difficult to balance out the reading since you have to read two books. He is very into his job, but wanders off sometimes.
Homework is reading sections from a book he assigns and every class there is a 5-6 question quiz on questions based on the reading. He makes you read a book of your choice followed by a paper you have to write. There are 3-4 multiple choice exams (notes based- he gives you them all) and Extra credit is offered throughout the class. Fun class.
I've had the privilege of having Profesor Lorenz for most of my history classes there. As a History major, he was a mentor type of figure to me. He's extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. I'd highly recommend him to any new incoming students at Merced College. Be prepared to read and participate in class, going to miss this guy
Knows his stuff. Makes history come alive. Cares about students especially ones who are on the fast track to get on with life and out of a community college. willing to work when life happens understands life beyond school.
I loved, loved, loved this professor. He does make you work for your grade, but you come out as a much better person and educated adult. You read A LOT!! Everything he gives you to read is relevant. Fantastic Professor!
One of my favorites at MC. Something that helped me in this class was annotating my readings and going over them right before class for tests/quizzes. You will basically be reading the whole semester, and it's a must because he assigns quizzes all the time. Definitely recommend him. I took him for 2 different courses. Would take again.
If you do the reading and participate (he gives you the option of participating verbally in class or choosing to write journal entrees) you will pass the class. He's very helpful and open to discussing things if you have questions. He really cares that you do good.
He's awesome. He's really caring and if you do your work you'll do great in the class. He really cares about his students and is really great as a person in general.
One of my favorite teachers! If you enjoy reading this is the class for you. Makes class fun!
Great professor! In order to pass the class, you need to read.
Professor Lorenz is honestly one of the greatest professors I have had. He is so hilarious, reasonable and wants the best for his students. He does assign quite a bit of work, however it is always easy work. He is not boring at all, he makes class fun always and shows a lot of funny videos in class as well. His teaching style is great as well!
I took this class because of the good review but Im sorry I must be real. He showed lots of videos. He gave lots of busy unnecessary work. Nice guy but tests were confusing and he hardly lectured and expected us to know material from previous experiences.
Professor Lorenz helped me fall in love with history! His class is not difficult unless you really don't like reading, because you will read two books in his class, he is a very fair grader and his test are right from the notes so they are very easy.
Taking his class made history so much fun! I like the way he explains things. There is a lot of reading in this class but as long as you have a positive attitude to reading and pay attention to the details you will be fine.
Kind of felt as if I didn't really need to show up to class since he posted the notes online and marked what was important. You'll pass a long as you do a great job on the critical analysis paper (it's worth a lot so pick an interesting topic to read about) do good on the quizzes, do your journals or participate in class, and read over the notes.
He was a cool Professor I wouldn't take him if you have a full load because its alot of work. Get ready to read atleast 30 plus pages before the next class to take a quiz that may or no happen. Gives up to 35 extra point for extra credit.
Don't me wrong I did like Professor Lorezn the first time I took him for 17A. But for some reason this time for 4B he is not the best as he was for the other history class. Lorezn shows unneeded video of what is currently going on in the world. I understand the pass affect the future but some were not needed to be shown.
He did a good job. He gives a lot of homework. You also have to read a lot. However, as long as you put at least some effort into the class you will pass. He is very patient as well. I thought the class was interesting. I would suggest taking him.
While lecturing, Professor Lorenz makes everything very understandable. He shares documents of all of his notes so that you can print them out to use while he lectures, but I didn't need them. He allows big notecards to be used on every test. Additionally, on exams and, he goes over some of the more difficult questions and gives answers to help out
Lorenz is one of the best teachers I've had and he really made me enjoy history for once. His is funny and the books were enjoyable to read. There are a couple of papers to write and some participation work, but as long as you follow the clear guidelines provided, you should pass without a problem. Lorenz really tries to get everyone to succeed
All books are mandatory. A lot of reading. But he breaks it up little by little I didnt do much of the reading but still got a B on my final paper hes a great teacher and is absolutely hilarious. Simple class definitely looked forward to it. He makes class fun and is great at his lectures. 10/10.
Super unorganized.
Professor Lorenz is very passionate about what he does and it shows in class. I have taken a total of 3 classes with him and although he does assign a lot of reading I have learned a lot. He genuinely wants every student to pass and if you give an effort he will pass you.
Professor Lorenz was a pretty funny guy in class, but one thing that irked me a bit was that it took him a while to grade assignments and didn't utilize the online learning management the school uses so I had to wait until class to learn how I performed on assignments. I met with him outside of office hours and was super helpful in his feedback.
Lorenz is a good professor and his classes are straight forward. There is a lot of reading and an essay, but the work is not difficult. Keeping up on your reading is key, because he does have random quizzes. Hes got extra credit options for everyone, too and its easy. I would recommend him and have taken him twice for HIST17A and 17B. 10/10
I took his last semester and I wish I could take it again. You can definitely see how passionate he is about the class. The class is easy but you have to do all the readings and watch the lectures to pass. For online classes, I would recommend going to zoom classes to get to know him better because he is a really nice professor.
dropped out of his class. the work was too much for me (7 hours of video per module). and he seems to be lacking in teaching as we did not have a zoom meet on the first week of school and did not communicate well with emails. he would ignore your questions. overall, I would not rec him.
I took this professors class in summer, and his gradings are strict on the final paper or like the main paper and some other assignments. Lots and long lectures to watch if in summer not sure about other semesters. Responds to the questions emails after few days, some assignments instructions dont make any sense.
The lectures are great and very detailed. However, his teaching style is very outdated. Prepare for very unclear instructions, confusing assignments, and random, useless papers. If you don't fully understand the reading, your grade will suffer because he only gives quizzes. For HW, you'll be stuck reading instead of listening to lectures you need.
Throughout the semester he would not finish lecturing, and expected us to finish three lecture before our exams, would get side tracked and would just watch movies, which affected out lecture timing. Test were influenced by the lectures that were unfinished. Would not recommend this class to no one.
Professor Lorenz is very tough on grading, he will double homework if you do not attend the class. It took me 8 hours to complete his work for the class, there is 2 text and you must create questions for each reading. There are I believe 3-5 tests with 50 questions each with extremely hard questions. It is very intense, so beware.
This teacher was awful and had a lot or work for his class. I took it during the summer and the classwork took the whole day. Do not take him in my opionion.
He is a very engaging professor and I never fell asleep once in his class. Make sure you do the reading, you'll have to read fifteen to twenty pages for homework and there is usually a quiz based on the reading(5 questions each time). He will also call on students to share any questions they have based off the reading and he offers extra credit.
Professor Lorenz is clear with all his instructions. He even makes videos and links for assignments explaining in good details. He is quick to answer anyone with their questions. I enjoy the way he teaches.
Professor Lorenz was an amazing professor! He entered the class with a smile, shared funny and personal stories, and was always kind by giving extra help. There was a lot of reading in the class, many lectures, and multiple pop quizzes/exams; however, it was the most educational course I have taken so far! I would totally take his class again!
Didnt reply on any email I sent. His hw required you to read a sec of a book with info like what section, pgs you need to read. Most pgs listed to were off, maybe bc of smth like him basing the hw off of an old ver of the tb. Some of the sec he wants us to read werent on the ver of the tb given to us. I emailed him asking wht to do, he didnt reply.
Get prepared to read and write! If you do the work it's an easy class. Attendance is key because there are lots of quizzes on the readings. His exams are based on his lectures almost word for word. If you study and do the work you will pass his class.
I took his class during the summer which was accelerated. He makes it clear what to expect, but I ended up dropping because he always trailed off on his lectures which made it hard to follow along. It's a lot of work and required reading. I wouldn't recommend taking this course in the summer.
Lorenz was my most interesting professor! He was funny, explained History like it was a story and would relate things from then to now which made me really understand what we were learning about. If you do the work, he will grade you fairly. DO THE READING and you will be just fine. Tests are about 50 questions, he gives you the answers for a lot!
i did his Hist17B online all you have is weekly readings from the assigned books, and some exams, and writings once every 2 weeks. easy A is if you put in a decent amount of effort.
Professor Lorenz was a great teacher! Not a lot of homework, but the reading for it makes it seem like there is so much more than there truly is. He does do "pop quizzes" on the readings but he usually lets you know when the pop quiz will be if not its already posted in canvas with the date so you can look there. Super great though!
Very good teacher, had some issues with some assignments but I got it resolved pretty quick. There are two pretty big assignments where you have to keep up with. Not that many assignments at all, very doable. Do the assigned reading and listen to lectures, you'll pass.
Great professor, gives good feedback on assignments. The amount of work is a hefty load especially the reading, what is nice is the exams are based on the lectures and it is open note. He is a fair grader and offers a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Only would not take again because of the amount of reading.
i am currently in Lorenz's class, here is what i have to say: he will not respond to emails, even if you inform him about it, will tell you to go to office hours will not grade assignments even until midterms, stuff is still ungraded you will take a lot of notes, expect your hands to hurt DO NOT RECOMMEND!!
Great Professor! His lectures are easy to follow along & he does go over the notes pretty quick but just go on his YT for extra time to take down notes. He answered most of my emails and reached out when I needed help. There's a lot of reading so make sure to show up & be consistent with your hw or your grade will drop down fast. 8/10
This class revolved around reading. I personally did not mind this and I found his lectures to be easy to follow. He is good at answering questions and his feedback is actually helpful. Lorenz is a cool guy overall and I recommend him!
He's a good professor his lectures aren't to hard to follow, and test are easy. Only complaint was he did not show up to class a few times and didn't make an announcement the class was outside waiting for him to show. Some of us commute.
Mr. Lorenz is an amazing professor, sure he has a lot of quizzes that's going to take every week but the quizzes are based about the pages of the book's that are for the class and the claim of the student who did their review about Mr. Lorenz "taking a long time to respond to emails", every teacher has a lot of tasks to handle as a teacher all day.
