From Austin Texas. Seems nice but isn't. Takes attendance by name cards; he doesn't even check to see if you, the person, is there; just looks at the name cards that aren't collected.
Puts a lot into the class and really knows his stuff. Super nice in and out of class. Only negatives are that he's strict on attendance and the grade is heavy (15%) on participation. As long as you put in reasonable amount of work and come to class (and actually say something once in a while), you should do well and learn a lot about marketing.
Probably one of my least favorite classes at William and Mary. Seems very nice/engaging at the beginning, but is very unclear on grading and gives little guidance on tests. Very nitpicky on cases. Also very full of himself and not receptive to helping students improve test scores.
He is a very straightforward and intelligent Professor. He is always willing to help students with questions and he genuinely wants his class to learn something from him. Study his slides and don't be afraid to ask questions in class.
World cup soccer rules!
He will challenge you but you will get a lot from his classes!!
Hard teacher, very nice and helpful. Large workload. Very useful in marketing
Professor Luchs is awesome! Relatively easy grader. Somewhat challenging exams. The project was a lot of fun and some good real-world experience.
Professor Luchs is a great guy. His class is challenging but completely manageable. Do the reading, come to class, and you'll be fine. The reading you can do before the test, but it does help to have the textbook. I didn't and ended up getting Bs on the tests
I had professor luchs both for principals of marketing and marketing research and have loved his classes both times. He is one of the most dedicated and intelligent professors that I have had at W&M. He really cares about the students that he teaches and is deeply interested in the material. The class demands some work, but its worth it.
Professor Luchs is excellent. He really cares about the learning and well-being of his students. I would recommend him for any of his marketing classes. His willingness to incorporate "real-life" projects into his course really enhanced its educational value.
Can be a lot of work but everything you learn/do is useful after college. We also got to work with a real client! Resume-worthy experience
Project required too much time-took away from learning class material at times.
The multiple choice in the tests can be trickier than the written answers
Tests weren't bad at all, just review the slides and review the text; project was time consuming but he talked about reducing the workload next for future classes; overall great teacher. very helpful. very knowledgeable on the subject.
Prof Luchs is the man. He is extremely helpful and has a great professional background to call on when applying the course material. He is always searching for funny and interesting tools to incorporate into class too. Definitely try to take a class with LUUUUUUUCHS
Awesome professor! He was a real nice guy with a great knowledge and passion for market research. Very interesting, real-world application of material. Class required a lot of work but you get a lot out of it.
I love Professor Luchs. This is my second time having him, and he is a wonderful person. His tests are straight-forward, but with a couple tricky ones. His lectures are easy to follow because everything is organized by day, and his expectations are really clear. One of my favorite professors from both my old school and W and M.
Prof. Luchs is a great professor who cares about his students and will do anything to make sure every single student does well and understands the material. It's not easy to get an A but if you work hard enough, he rewards you.
Clean-cut guy.
His class is difficult, but it will prepare you for life after college. Overall, a good class.
Very nice prof. Passionate about the course. Takes interest in students & genuinely means it when he says he is there to help you. Approach him with questions & you will be glad you did! Very open to feedback and understanding.
Great professor. A lot of work at times, but BUAD 452 is a very useful life and you will feel like you got some useful "real life" experience.
Had him for intro and research. Both weren't too difficult if you put the time in. MGL knows his stuff and wants the class to actually know it too. I'm interning now and actually use things that I clearly remember from class. Definitely take him
Class was a lot of work but great professor, really went out of his way to make sure each student knew their stuff and left with a great understanding of what Marketing Research really is like.
Awesome class! Luchs is very clear and fair with his tests. The reading helps although most of his questions come from the powerpoints. Really enjoyed this class!
Luchs is an engaging and very helpful professor. The class was a little bit tedious with the Herman Miller project and the use of SPSS software. However I have had Luchs twice and definitely recommend him and his courses
This class can be a little tough, but if you pay attention and pull your weight in the group work, then you'll be fine. Luchs is a good guy and definitely tries to help students out.
This man is hard but very clear and helpful. If you study enough, A- is basically guaranteed. Only two flaws are: 1. Your group project must be good enough. Even if your two individual exam scores are nice, your group project grade can really hurt you. 2. His MC exams are tricky.
I have never rated a professor before, but I had to for Luchs. He's hands down the best professor at W&M. He's caring, smart as hell, super organized... the list goes on. Take him!
He is very nice, but a pretty tough grader. Participation counts, so make sure to talk in class. Powerpoints are straightforward but tests are pretty hard. One of the few good quality teachers at this school.
Sustainability Marketing and Product Design is a MUST TAKE for anyone interested in design or sustainability-related business issues. Prof Luchs is clear and diligent. You will work on designing a sustainable product or service. This course offers a lot of room for free brainstorm, steering the assignment, and creativity. Easy A if you are engaged
One of the best classes I have taken at W&M! Great experience and educational value overall, lots of practical work, and a fun/applicable project. Professor Luchs was a great mentor, always on top of things, always changing things up to keep discussions interesting. I highly recommend the class!
Sustainability Inspired Design (also Sust. Mkting) is hands down one of the best courses I've ever taken. The class is engaging, thought-provoking, and fun- 1 hr 20 min has never gone by so fast. Luchs is incredible- so knowledgeable, passionate, and inspiring. He puts a lot of effort into planning the course and genuinely cares about his students.
This was a great class.
Marketing Sustainability was one of the best classes I have taken so far! Professor Luchs is great, the lectures are interesting and he is very knowledgeable on the subject. Definitely a must take course for anyone interested in Marketing and Product Design.
I took Sustainability Marketing with Luchs and it was a great class! The second half of the semester was really fun in the design studio. Most of the work for the course you do in class, so its pretty easy. Definitely would recommend it, even if you aren't in the Business school and especially if you are interested in environmental issues or design
Great course, very insightful. In my opinion you will not regret taking this class. The great thing about this course is that it teaches you little nuggets of wisdom that you could certainly apply to the real world after college. I loved the class, the professor is one of the best i've ever had, and I enjoyed the work. Be ready to learn.
Marketing Sustainability or Sustainability Inspired Design(SID) was a fantastic course. I was amazed at what I learned and how it challenged me to think about learning differently. Class is pretty straight forward. Do the work and you will do well. Luchs is brilliant and a great person to know. Get to know him outside of class.
The Sustainability Inspired Design class was fantastic! One of the best experience I have ever had. It exposed me to a vastly different world and helped me to develop a different way of thinking. The professor is amazing, too. I have taken other classes with Prof. Luchs. He is always really clear on the homework assignments, the objectives of class
Just take the class. Luchs is great, you'll learn a lot, and you won't regret it.
Professor Luchs is amazing. I was initially intimidated by the class, but he makes it very easy to succeed. Also, turned out that I love the material. Probably the best marketing class at WM.
Very rewarding course. I went in with basically no stats knowledge at all, and with Professor Luchs's help, I was able to conduct a lot of statistical analysis and present my findings to the class. If you're willing to work, you'll do well. Luchs makes taking this class more than worth it
Marketing Research with Professor Luchs was my favorite course this last semester. While it seems intimidating at first, Luchs does an amazing job of explaining marketing research and by the end of the semester you are able to present you're own findings to the class. He has a lot of industry knowledge and is very approachable if you ever need help
This was the most useful class I took in college. It helped me with the data analysis portion of my senior thesis and helped me land a job after because of the SPSS skills I learned in class. Professor Luchs' class is not easy, but he explains even the hardest concepts. His online videos are very helpful! Great class with a terrific professor!
Just go to class, take notes no slides, prep well for the tests. Go to Friday help sessions for the HW. Make sure you understand SPSS for the project. Answer questions in class. If you're a WM caliber student and do these things, you'll get an A. I was surprised when I heard this was one of the hardest classes in the dept... that's marketing for ya
Wonderful professor! Incredibly helpful and informative! Classes are always well planned. Class will require a good amount of work, but nothing impossible. I would definitely recommend this for marketing majors. You will be able to use the information in jobs/internships.
Professor Luchs ia great professor! I especially like his music choices during class. But actually, he's very helpful and clearly dedicated to the subject matter.
This is a phenomenal course taught by one of William and Mary's best professor.
Luchs is a wonderful professor. Sustainability Inspired Product and Service Design is a cool, innovative, and culturally relevant class. I learned SO much. I took the class through its ENSP cross-listing, and knew nothing about business/marketing/design before- he teaches you the basics and then puts you in groups of diverse background to help you.
Luchs expects a lot from teams when submitting their 2 big projects for the semester. However the class itself is VERY interactive, unique, and interesting. A great course on product design and sustainability - you really do spend a lot of time on both topics. The lab you use is amazing, too - a definite pick to try at Mason!
Professor Luchs loves the sustainability field and it shows in every aspect of his Sustainability Design course. He'll help you understand material you're struggling with, all you have to do is ask and you will benefit. His energy translates great in a creative class like this and the studio space is easily one of the greatest rooms on campus.
The Sustainability Inspired Design is the best class ever!! Being able to have a business class in a design studio is a great experience! The class materials are interesting and engaging. I would definitely recommend everyone to take it!
great class, great professor!
Professor Luchs really shows you how to think differently. The class was engaging and very useful for the future!
Luchs is a great professor and all of the material is very well-explained. My one criticism is that sometimes he has trouble understanding student questions. His 1st test is quite hard, 2nd is easy. HWs are no problem. If you're unfortunate and have a lazy team, continue to work as hard as you can because your grade will reflect that.
Luchs is a wonderfully bright professor. This material isn't easy, so I would really encourage going to class and seeking help when needed.
Super helpful, kind, and engaging. This class is super applicable to marketing, and will give you really great skills for the real world. Big emphasis on group project-make sure you like your topic, because you will work on it all semester!
Professor Luchs is a really great professor. He really cares about his subject and is incredibly knowledgable. He's actually enjoyable to listen to which is quite refreshing. His subject material is somewhat difficult, but he explains it so well that you'll probably get a decent grade in this class no matter what. 10/10 would recommend.
Prof Luchs is one of the best at the B School. He's helpful, clear, and incredibly demanding. By far the most useful course for my future I've taken at college
Great class! Luchs really cares about the subject and does a great job explaining everything. I barely referenced my textbook, studied mainly off the powerpoint slides. Learned a lot and would definitely recommend.
Class material can be tedious, but he is a great professor. Explains everything very clearly. A class that will definitely boost your skill set for the real world.
Good professor, he really cares about his students. Take his project seriously, he knows when you don't. Tests are not too bad, just prepare. I honestly studied 3 hours the night before and hardly paid attention in class and got solid B's on the exams. With that said, if you do put the time in and pay attention and prepare well, an A is doable
Very passionate and so helpful. Tests are directly from the power points and class discussion- not really a need to read the book.
Super nice and very clear about class expectations. Had to do little work outside of class because so much of the group work is built into class time, loved that! Very considerate. Can get away with only doing 3 for the semester. Blog each class, 2 projectspresentations. Awesome! Learned so much with ease, very different from any other WM class.
Really cool class. I looked forward to coming to class everyday because luchs made it such a relaxed environment. I could focus on learning and not worry about taking bunches of notes (I preferred to not take notes at all), and I loved that projects were our midterm and final. It's a much better judge of what we actually learned. Which was A LOT.
Such a great professor--the class relates more to the real world than almost anything I've taken at W&M. Even though I'm not a business major, I felt like the material was strait forward and Luchs can explain anything that's unclear.
One of the best professors in Mason. Class challenges you to think creatively in ways you wouldn't otherwise, and Professor Luchs is always there for effective feedback. My eyes were opened to the world of sustainability. Definitely recommended!
A unique and forward thinking course that marries creativity with innovation and sustainability in the business realm. Professor Luchs is as good as it gets- one of the best in Mason. He has a way of teaching that allows students to discover rather than be told. I highly recommend this course for students of all majors - not just business.
Sustainability Inspired Design * Innovation was a once in a lifetime experience. Professor Luchs did a great job of keeping the class interesting through supplementary material, changes in class structure, and constant change. The class is for students of all backgrounds and is a great introduction to Design Thinking. Would take again if I could!
I took Sustainability Inspired Design with Luchs and it was GREAT! Everybody loves him because he's such a bro. He encouraged us to think outside of the box which I loved. I had almost perfect attendance and that says something for me. I LOVED THIS PROFESSOR!
The class was engaging and helped you learn the design thinking process to solve real life problems. I've applied many of the ideas and concepts in different aspects of my life and I am so glad I took the class. A great class for business or environmental majors or anyone with an interest in developing innovative ideas.
Professor Luchs provided a great opportunity to do independent research for my ENSP capstone. He was extremely helpful and encouraging. I thoroughly enjoyed doing research with Luchs and would recommend it to anyone with an interest in viewing sustainability through a different lens!
Interesting class, learned a lot-- but way too much work for a 3-credit class if design is not something you are super into. He expects a lot from you, and has very specific ways of thinking and working that he looks for. Learn what he wants and don't stray from that (counter intuitive for an innovation class).
I had a great semester! Prof Luchs is truly a professional. The class was unlike any traditional class and really made me think in ways I've never done before. I had more fun with this class than I have ever had in all of my college classes. Def take him!
Such a cool class and Professor Luchs is great! The class really makes you think outside of the box - very different from any other class I've taken at the College. A lot of work but almost guaranteed an A if you do it!! Would definitely recommend
Professor Luchs is awesome and Sustainability Inspired Innovation and Design is a really unique class. There are no tests and the course relies on group projects; if you show up and participate you will likely get an A. It introduces students to a new way of thinking and pushes you to think beyond your comfort zone. I would definitely take again!
Luchs is the absolute best! You have to take a class with him before you graduate whether or not you are a business major/minor.
Took sustainability and design with prof Luchs because I was interested in it and the class turned out to be my best learning experience in college. He was so peaceful, wise and inspirational. Walking out of his classroom you feel like your living philosophy was well nourished. Lots of group work, but lots of freedom and fun!
One of the best classes I've taken at W&M. You spend about 50% of classes working on your final group project, which is the majority of your grade (no tests or quizzes). It's an inspirational class that will change the way you think about a lot of things, from design thinking to sustainability to happiness.
This is one of the best classes I've taken at the college. It changed how I viewed innovation and coming up with ideas, happiness and doing good in the world, but most of all I felt like I came out of the class creating something I was incredibly proud of. This is a truly unique and inspirational class and I can't say enough good things about it
Professor Luchs teaches a college course the way one should be taught. It's way more than regurgitating reading or memorizing information; his classes always require a deep understanding and creativity and hard work. The class is also very enjoyable. I've learned a lot from him. You should try to get a class with him before you graduate.
Excellent professor. Genuinely interested in the subject which makes it engaging and informative. Unlike many of the other marketing classes I've taken at the College, I actually feel as though this information is new, cutting edge, and will help me market myself when applying for jobs. I learned a lot and it didn't even feel like that much work.
The best professor in BS. Without using any textbook, you learn a lot and trust me, you are going to apply this knowledge for the rest of your life. He is very passionate about his topic and teaches his classes in a very unique, but enjoyable way! I believe every student at WM should take one of his classes!
He's a handsome, sweet, soft-spoken professor, but an unnecessarily tough grader. He has very specific ways of thinking and things that he looks for, and if you stray from that, he will think you're off track or not following the process. But the class made me think differently about my approach to solving problems and innovating in the world.
Professor Luchs is an amazing professor! While his class was extremely difficult, his engaging presence and teaching style made this class one of my favorites. You will learn a lot in his class that actually is applicable to real group projects, but you will really have to work for a good grade.
Luchs is one of the professors at William & Mary that thinks differently. His optimism and encouragement is a breath of fresh air compared to the rest of the school. His thesis is that business and environmental/social/economic sustainability aren't opposing topics, in fact they're complementary. If you want an autopilot class, this is not for you.
I took this class as an ENSP student and felt that the group projects helped expose me to the business-side of the class in a comfortable/accessible way. Amazing content, very inspirational, only graded on a few large projects and participation def counts. Class made me eager to do the readings and sad when I was too busy to read as much as I want
Prof. Luchs is my favorite professor at WM. He is the wisest person I've met and cares about all of his students actually learning the material. He utilizes experiential learning in order to keep things in the class interesting and he definitely succeeds.
I did the bare minimum in this class and got a B, so he does make you work for it. Luchs is a really interesting and unique professor, he teaches a lot of cool ideas and ways of thinking i was never exposed to before in a classroom setting. i would highly recommend people of all majors to try their hand in innovation - it's an important skill.
In general this class has so many interesting concepts that I know will help me for future courses, but Luchs also teaches them in interesting and engaging way! And while this class does have a decent workload Luchs is a wonderful Professor to be around and clearly wants his students to do well, but also cares about their well-being as a whole!
Great Professor! I have taken Luchs twice now and loved both classes. It is a class you will learn a ton, but you must work hard to do well. 100% take him but understand this will most likely be one of the hardest classes of your semester.
This class is a great simulation of the working world. You'll definitely learn to work in teams. At times, he has trouble seeing eye-to-eye with students that aren't on his innovative wavelength, but learning to think like he does will teach you how to please any real-world bosses that you may have trouble relating to. Busy work & easy grader
Took professor luchs for a 1 credit seminar class. We met a few times a semester to discuss the lectures by guest speakers. Final grade was determined by a short final paper. He allows you to decide the topic tho. Luchs class is very engaging and he makes you think outside the box. Really cool professor. Def would take again
Professor Luchs is one of the best professors at W&M. He is extremely knowledgable and it is evident through his teaching. He has high expectations and grades accordingly, but he also gives really great feedback and lots of direction for group projects. His class provides really practical real world experience too.
Taking Professor Luchs' class was one of the best experiences during my exchange semester at W&M. His teaching style is inspiring and makes you think critically about things that would normally not even cross your mind. I have learned a great deal about sustainability related topics and would definitely take this class again!
Professor Luchs is a phenomenal educator. He is encouraging, challenging, and inspiring from the first lecture to the final presentation. After coming to him about my post-grad goals, Professor Luchs listened to me, believed in me, and helped me come up with a plan to make it all happenhe is the most caring and brilliant professor at W&M by far!
Professor Luchs is amazing and is such a kind man, but your experience in this class is 100% dependent on your project group. He has you fill a survey and randomly assigns you to people, which did not help out my grades since my group didn't mesh well. The course is interesting, but this lessened my interest in the topic by a lot.
I love Professor Luchs and would definitely recommend him to others! The class was a fair amount of work and involved group projects but was manageable and interesting! I was a bit apprehensive of a business class because I had no experience in marketing/finance/business design, but class was very accommodating, and the readings taught me a lot!
I really enjoyed the class and will definitely take the lessons about how sustainability and customer reactions play a role in businesses into my career and personal life in post grad. Super group work intensive so also taught me how to navigate group dynamics where not everyone got along lol
This is for BUAD 446. Insane amount of work and an impossible grader. He added assignments under our nose that were not initially on the syllabus, as if there already wasn't enough work. Interesting and useful material unfortunately taught by an insufferable professor.
Take any of Professor Luchs' courses. Fantastic lecturer, and great at driving class participation. A previous review said "impossible grader", which couldn't be less true. BUAD446 is conducive to creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. Not a cakewalk, but we are adults and if you raise your hand and apply thinking beyond ChatGPT, you will do well.
Can't say enough positive things about Professor Luchs. His lectures were not only engaging, but they made me think deeper about marketing as a whole. It is clear he loves what he does and is good at doing it. Prof. Luchs is a rare find and a gem of the marketing department. While you are expected to be engaged in class, he makes it easy to do so!
