Pretty chill. Class was easy. Super helpful with papers and such.
He really makes the subject interesting, but is a little disorganized with his powerpoints. He is funny and jokes with the students. Because he doesn't cover a lot of information in class, the book is necessary to pass the tests. His study guides are exactly like the test, but it covers a lot of information.
super chill guy. if you read the book, you should make As on the tests. Low effort class for me. he makes it interesting. you dont really need that georgia book.
Lynch is AWESOME. His lectures are funny and relevant and he gives you study guides for all the tests so you know exactly what to expect. He's very nice and is aware that not everyone is a political science major and spices up his lectures for those who aren't usually interested. Definitely my favorite professor at UGA.
My TA was an extremely tough grader compared to the others. The TA really makes or breaks the class. However, Lynch himself was great. He was funny and his lectures are interesting. Since he gives you a study guide, I would wait to read until you get that to read the book. There are only three tests and a final, so you have to really study.
Professor Lynch is really funny and makes his lectures very interesting, but they are by no means mandatory. The breakout sessions on Fridays are where you will learn most of the material, as well as just by reading the book. I felt that his classes were often a waste of my time when I could just read the book. Only 3 tests and the final.
Dr. Lynch is a good professor. Breakout sessions are fairly helpful, especially because they give you back your tests. Lectures were not mandatory, but were also helpful with some info that isn't in the textbook. Overall, an easy A.
Lynch is honestly a really awesome guy and a great teacher who really cares about what he teaches. In terms of difficulty his tests are very straightforward as long as you have the study guides memorized before the test as they are exactly what the tests will be. Go to class, talk in breakouts, ask questions, listen to key info, and you're golden.
Easy A, but you do need to go to lecture most of the time, his lecture has stuff not in the book.
kinda a funny gut but other than that he's pretty cool
easy A if you take good notes from his lectures and study the study guides. straightforward tests.
I really enjoyed Dr. Lynch. The class itself isn't difficult if you keep up with the readings and go to class. He gives you study guides that are super helpful and tests are fairly easy if you read the chapters. Really funny, laid-back guy. Would recommend.
I LOVED having Lynch. He makes lectures funny and enjoyable. Prepares students very well for tests and provides good tools to easily succeed in the class.
Great professor, awesome lectures, easy tests!
Professor Lynch made the lectures clear and entertaining. He's a very funny guy.
I loved this class and thought that Dr. Lynch was a great professor. He always made the lectures entertaining and his passion for the class and content was evident. He was funny and I learned a lot in the class. The tests were not too hard, but studying was definitely necessary for an A.
Dr. Lynch is an extremely funny and easy professor. He dismisses class early almost every week and tells you exactly what you need to study for the tests. There are three "midterms" and he reuses the same questions on the final. Lectures can be somewhat boring and are not mandatory. He also posts study guides for every test.
I loved Dr Lynch and his class! Political science wasn't a class I was looking forward to, but was required for my major, and he made it the most interesting class. He is so passionate and his tests are very straightforward. He always lets class out early, and his final is just old test questions.
Lynch is amazing, easily one of the best professors I have ever taken. He really knows the material and cares about his students. I am well versed in politics and I learned so many new things and insights from him, His lectures are interesting and funny, he is great at conveying the material in a topical and entertaining manner, Tests are very easy
The lectures aren't mandatory, but he doesn't post the slides online and some info covered isn't in the book. He makes the lectures interesting, and I genuinely enjoyed going. The breakout session isn't bad depending on your TA. You still have to study to do well on the tests, but he provides great study guides.
Dr. Lynch was a great professor! There is a lot of material with tests covering multiple chapter but he provides good study guides. The lectures are not bad either and he is also pretty funny. Overall it was a good class and I would definitely recommend taking him!
Lynch is very funny and the lectures are so easy that you hardly have to pay attention. There are 3 tests and a final, but they follow the study guides very closely. It will be tempting to skip because the study guides are follow the textbook, but go to the classes because he throws in questions he covers in lecture to encourage you to show up.
Really good professor! Lectures were interesting enough - he understood that it's not the most exciting of the required classes. Definitely go though bc he gives info that's not in the textbook. Also go to the breakout sessions - they're super helpful!
Dr. Lynch made his lectures interesting and I really enjoyed attending class. His tests are pretty easy and as long as you go to class and read the textbook, you'll do well in the class.
Lectures aren't mandatory but are helpful. The notes are pretty much exactly what will be on the exams. There's 3 exams and a final, and a breakout session every week thats 10% of your grade and essentially a free 10 points just for going. Breakout's are mandatory, lectures aren't, but do try to go to lecture or at least get the notes
I don't care for Political Science at all, but he somehow made me care about the subject. He is hilarious and somehow manages to create really fun lectures, even when he is talking about boring facts. Although I never talked with him outside of class, he is one of the more entertaining professors I have had. Tests can be pretty tough, though.
He's really funny & made lecture interesting, but there are definitely easier POLS professors. Three tests during the entire semester, no extra credit, no projects, and no dropped tests. Definitely need to study for tests, but day-to-day the class doesn't require much effort. Attendance/textbook not required.
Good teacher easy classy
Lynch was a great pols professor. He gives extra credit on tests, and if you show up to class he gives you hints to what will be on test. I've made As on all tests and only studied a day or 2 before.
He is super funny and makes the lectures worth listening to. The tests are straight off the study guides so it is not hard to do well if you study.
Very very easy class. Only 3 tests and a final, but he posts study guides that cover all the materials you need to know so it is very easy to study for this class. Probably shouldn't say this but I don't think going to the lectures are necessary if you do the study guides and understand the material. Again, super easy and fun class highly recommend
Dr. Lynch is a great guy. Grade is determined 90% by tests and 10% by attendance (to TA sessions. Unfortunately wound up with a not-so-great TA, but Mike's lectures are funny and definitely keep things interesting. If you don't have a good TA, things are definitely a lot harder, but go to office hours if things are unclear.
I loved this class, Lynch was so funny and nice. Attendance for lectures are not necessary, but weekly outside discussions are. I would recommend going to the lectures they are very helpful for test. TA grading is not the same across the students as far as some test grading goes.
He's a great professor who makes this required class one that you'll want to go to. Super funny and entertaining and almost always lets out early. You don't have to go to class if you read the book and do his study guides, but going definitely helps because he'll tell you some certain things that are definitely on the test.
He is engaging and hilarious. For a university-required class, POLS 1101 was surprisingly super enjoyable thanks to Lynch. Attendance isn't required, but I recommend going because lecture info will show up on the exams, which are straight-forward if you pay attention and prepare. Break-out sessions with TAs also are helpful. Lynch is great.
Class is just lectures, but he's a funny guy and i enjoyed them. Grades were purely tests besides an entire 10 points for your once a week breakout session. I made a terrible grade on my first two tests because i didn't study in the least. Study and you'll be fine.
Very nice guy and pretty funny during lectures. He doesn't take attendance but definitely go to class. He gets pissed off if a lot of people decide not to show up and will give a few answers for upcoming exams as a "gift" to those who show up. Also he puts questions specifically from lectures on exams, very straight forward.
He gives study guides that are exactly like the test. You do have to go to class after the last exam because the new information isn't in the book. But as long as you go, he will point blank tell you what is and isn't on the exam. Go to your breakout session because it is 10% of your grade and it's pretty much attendance.
Hes a really nice guy and tries to make class a little more interesting. The break out session are kinda dumb but helpful around test time. Uses similar test questions each semester. Final is hard but doesnt really affect your grade.
He made lectures interesting and relevant. Test are just like the study guides and answers for study guides are in the text book. There are 3 test and the final and that's 90% of your grade. Breakout session is based on attendance and is 10% of your grade. Easy A!
One of my favorite professors at UGA. Kept the class very interesting and relevant. Really cared for the students.
Professor Lynch is funny but can easily get off topic in lecture. That being said I never go to lecture. He posts study guides for the three tests online and if you study those for a couple hours you're totally fine. He makes the class super easy if you study a little bit. I also never read the book and have an A so...
Everyone seems to think he's great but really his lectures aren't beneficial for the tests at all. As long as you read the book chapters and do the study guides you don't need to go to class. Try to take the placement test for this class but if you have to take it he's a fine option but his lectures aren't based on what you have to know for tests
Mr. Lynch is a great choice for this class. Since the lectures arent mandatory, I thought I wouldnt end up going. However, he keeps everyone entertained and gives a lot of test information out during lectures. If you attend the discussion sessions, read each chapter, and fill out every study guide, youll be set.
Haven't finished my semester with Prof. Lynch, but would definitely recommend to students taking POLS 1101. He is pretty funny in lectures, starts each with a current event or political scandal, that spends a bit of time on something other than just content. Some found exams difficult, but if you study well, you'll likely ace them.
Tests are easy if you do the study guide he gives (basically defining them). Going to class isn't mandatory and not needed to do well, but he gives answers/hints to questions on tests if you do go. He also gives a bonus on most tests. Breakout sessions are useless and boring depending on TA, but it's 10% of the grade and based on attendance.
Take him So funny and witty. Breakout session is mandatory, lecture is not. Tests are really straightforward if you study and go to class. He is really into current events and you can tell he is passionate about the subject matter. He made me fall in love with pols and I even made it my major because of him. I hope he sees this!!
Lectures are not important. You don't even need to show up. My recommendation would be to to go to every breakout session but skip almost every lecture. Spend that time highlighting and reading the terms that are on his study guide. The tests are pretty straight forward. Also, be very specific with short-answers.
Really funny, makes his class interesting. 100% reccomend taking his class!
His lectures were detailed and entertaining and he explained things well. Each unit has a study guide posted plus you make a new one with your TA before the tests. Studying the textbook with the guide in mind and coming to the lectures is a sure way to do well on the tests. Super approachable outside of class if you're having issues.
Here's the thing -- Dr. Lynch is a GREAT guy. He's super funny and entertaining. However, I don't think he's that good of a professor. He makes the tests decently hard, and his lectures aren't even really helpful. He likes to rant about current events and go off on unrelated tangents that don't serve any purpose. I stopped going to lecture.
In order to do well in the class you must prepare well for the tests because those are the only grades you can make besides the final exam. (3 tests + final) Attendance is also important but its only 10% of final grade. His tests are fair but they can be a little difficult. His study guides are super helpful so you should be fine and pull an A.
The lectures are interesting and funny but not based on what you need to know for the test, which I don't mind. The tests are not too difficult, but I recommend reading the book to study. He posts study guides that cover everything. Breakout sessions have mandatory attendance but are not very useful. Professor Lynch is in my opinion unbiased
His class is really entertaining, but the test are surprisingly more challenging than you'd think. If you put in the effort, you'll get a good grade in the class. The discussion sections on Fridays are mandatory and can hurt your grade if you skip these.
Lynch is hilarious and made every class enjoyable. Although attendance isn't mandatory, he doesn't post notes online so if you don't go to class you'll have to teach yourself. He provides optional study guides, and the book is really helpful in filling them out. The tests are kinda hard, but as long as you read and take good notes you'll be fine.
He's hysterical and tells fun stories during lectures. Lectures aren't necessary for anything other than the powerpoint slides, though. After the last test, he starts giving you final exam questions as incentive to come to class and the rest of the final is repeated from old tests. Not as easy of an A as I expected, but it wasn't hard by any means.
Lynch uploads study guides with important words and when you fill them out, read the whole section/paragraph in the textbook encompassing the word, not just the definition (key to getting an A). Go to all breakout sessions. Lectures not mandatory, but definitely go to the ones after the 3rd exam. Final is 95% old test questions.
Lectures are pretty unnecessary to attend, but very entertaining. I usually only took 2-3 notes per lecture. Getting a good TA plus going to and participating in all of the breakout sessions is super important. Very clear study guides that make tests relatively easy. Only 4 tests including the final and a participation grade from breakout session.
This class is super easy & Lynch is somewhat entertaining. There are 3 tests & youre set if you know the vocab and the study guide he gives. Overall, I definitely recommend Lynch if you have to take gov.
Professor Lynch is a great guy and is so funny during class. The classes are helpful to go to, but as long as you read the book and go over HIS study guides before the test, you'll be fine. You definitely have to study though because the tests are hard. Short answer questions on the test are really vague and you must put a certain number of topics.
Lectures can sometimes get dry, but Professor Lynch adds in jokes to keep the attention of students. He also tries to put in material we all have heard of with "Scandalous Thursdays" where he talks about a current event. He gives a study guides that you can just look up in the book. This class is basically a high school Government class. Easy.
Lynch has only 3 test, a final, and breakout session participation calculated into your grade. His lectures are boring but he gives information for a few test questions during them. If you look up the definitions on his study guide and go to class, an A is doable. His final is mostly old test questions. Great guy.
I loved Lynch's class, especially as a POLS major. His lectures are interesting and usually funny, which made me go to class even without mandatory attendance. If you study the powerpoints and put in a little effort you can make the A. A true SPIA gem.
Not my favorite class of college. Lectures were boring and pretty much was just prof lynch reading straight from powerpoints that he didn't post online. However, he did post study guides and if you were able to do those prior to the tests you were pretty much guaranteed to get a good grade.
Lynch did not seem to care about his students. I went to his office hours and he was inconsiderate and didn't give me the time of day. The class is too test heavy and has questions purposely written to mess you up. The breakout session is the BIGGEST waste of time, but you have to go!!!!!! Not a fan....
Dr Lynch was incredibly unorganized and his only method of teaching in class was lecturing and the occasional discussion in groups. He just reiterated what was in the required reading for the day so actually going to class was useless but mandatory. He also grades bases your grade on how well other students do.
Dr. Lynch was a great professor. He made the class interesting by bringing in current events and having students weigh in. I thought he did a really good job balancing arguments from both sides of politics. He said he normally teaches over summer, so I don't know how that would look, but for the regular semester, it was pretty easy
Dr Lynch's lectures were engaging and applicable to our lives. He always made class interesting and is incredibly knowledgeable on the topics he teaches. I loved going to his class.
I am not a history person at all and I really loved this class. He made talking about American history and government super interesting. There are two tests and several assignments (3-5 pg papers) if it weren't for the pandemic. He is super interested in his students and wants everyone to do well. If you put a little effort in you'll be fine.
Since this is a small class, attendance and participation matters. He's super nice and keeps the lectures entertaining and he's funny. He kinda takes a while to grade but gives good feedback and is a fair grader. don't really need to read the textbook as tests mostly based off lectures/he post a test review. have four 3-5 page papers
Dr. Lynch made POLS so fun and interesting. I was super nervous about this class, but it ended up being my favorite. 2 tests based mostly on class discussions about readings- this was easy though because he made our classes interesting, so it was easy to remember the point of each reading and how it applied to what we were learning. 4 short essays.
This class was great. Professor Lynch is funny and keeps the lectures interesting. The grading is heavily based on three essays, the midterm and the final. Each paper is 10% of your grade so it's kind of hard to recover from a not great grade. But if writing isn't a problem for you, take this class!
I was a little nervous going in, since I'm not a POLS major, but I had absolutely no reason to be. Lynch made POLS extremely engaging and intriguing. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I always looked forward to going to his class.
Best Professor yet!! I absolutely hate politics, but this class was a breeze. My TA was Simon Williamson, and he was the best. If you don't take this class, you are missing out.
Prof Lynch was awesome for POLS 1101. The discussion sections were mandatory but it was with TA's. Really reliant on the textbook and InQuizitive, but his lectures were actually so interesting to watch!
This class was a breeze online. It is a lot of reading but its manageable if you spread it out over a few days. Lynch provides a lot of resources to help you do well. Ultimately, the tests were really easy. the TAs were leading the class as they coordinated the discussion sessions and graded everything.
Although a lot of the time in this class is spent with the TA, Lynch is amazing. He is nice and actually makes interesting lectures. The workload isn't heavy at all if you manage it well. I will definitely try and take another class of his later on.
If you think you can find a better professor, you can't. Maybe it depends on the TA, but mine was amazing and the content was a breeze. Easier than any high school or college class I have ever taken.
This class was made up of asynchronous video lectures and the format worked very well! The lectures were interesting and relevant. I'm nothing close to a gov major but I really enjoyed his videos. Learned a lot! It's also a fairly easy course if you turn things in on time and participate in small group discussions w/ your TA.
Dr. Lynch is an amazing professor and managed to make an objectively boring course topic interesting and engaging. If you're looking for a class to fulfill a requirement you're dreading, or just want to take a cool POLS class, take Dr. Lynch
Dr. Lynch is easily a top-5 Professor I've had here at UGA. Oddly enough Lynch's name isn't brought up a lot in undergrad circles (probably because our department has so many other great Prof's too) but make no mistake, this Kansan boy should not be slept on. His assignments are worthwhile (rare) and his lectures are extremely engaging.
I've taken Dr. Lynch for the past two semesters, and he's my favorite professor I've had here at UGA. His lectures, over normally boring content, are quite engaging, and he's extremely easy to talk/relate to. If you show up to class and do the few assignments he grades, you'll likely get an A. If you struggle, he's always around for office hours!
Great professor, funny guy, and tries to make gov somewhat interesting. Definitely would recommend you take him. Attendance isn't mandatory until Friday, because there's breakout groups with a TA.
Lynch is an okay professor. Inquisitive due every week. Tests arent east, but not impossible. I would study the textbook material a lot (like the definitions). Make sure you go to your mandatory breakout sessions as they take attendance and it is factored into your grade. Final exam is doable also.
Interesting lectures and tests are easy if you just make a quizlet and study basic definitions.
I thought he was a great professor who knew how to teach the content very well. The tests are not too hard, but there are short answer questions that can be a little tricky. There are breakout sessions that are counted for attendance, but the lecture classes are not mandatory. He does not share the powerpoints online, so I suggest going to class
Professor Lynch is very knowledgable about what he teaches, which makes his lectures interesting. Lecture isn't mandatory, but he doesn't post his powerpoint slides. Friday breakout session attendance is a part of your grade. Tests aren't bad, weekly quizzes that are an easy 100 every time. He's a funny guy and seems like he cares a lot.
Good professor. Test heavy with little other ways to bring up your grade. Only made a low B because my TA graded harsh.
He made gov interesting. However, a lot of lectures were not helpful at all. Did all the study guides and still got low Bs on all the tests. This class is mandatory, so take Lynch if you can.
this class is pretty easy, especially if you took AP government in high school. dr. Lynch's lectures are pretty pointless, but some things will be on the test in a short answer. Read the textbook and make quizlets. If you do that, you will be fine. Content is basic
Dr. Lynch is an amazing professor! While attending lecture wasn't mandatory, he doesn't post his PowerPoint slides, so I'd recommend going, but I skipped a few and found I didn't miss much. Its easy if you took AP Gov. Make sure to attend breakout sessions, get the easy 100 weekly quiz grade, and read the online textbook and you'll be fine.
I was misled by old reviews of this professor. Yes, he's a pretty chill guy who uses powerpoints to teach the class but his tests are HARD. None of the questions match up with what he teaches and the short answer portion is graded harshly. I got an F on the first exam and never managed to get above a B on any of the others. I do not recommend.
I took POLS 1101 with Professor Lynch during the Summer '22 Maymester. I can say with full certainty than he is one of the most kind, genuine, and passionate professors at UGA. He is very understanding and always makes himself available for students outside of class. Homework assignments are easy 100's. Absolutely recommend taking him!
Dr. Lynch is one of the best professors I've had in the Political Science department. This class was genuinely so enjoyable and never felt like a burden because of him. Only two papers, a midterm, and a final. He has extremely reasonable expectations and you will get a good grade if you make an honest effort. Take good notes in class, it pays off.
Easily one of my favorite professors at UGA. This guy is hilarious and is very reasonable in both his presentation of the subject and in his interactions with students. I loved how he tackled topics in a very moderate way, while also teaching US and Georgia politics in an interesting way that made me excited for his lectures. 1000% take his course.
Professor Lynch is probably the funniest professor I have had. He loves cracking awkward dad jokes. The class itself is fairly easy and he always keeps you entertained. There is a lot of discussion on current events. Tests are okay as long as you prepare. I would say he is a fairly easy grader. I promise you will not regret taking his course.
Honestly the best professor I have had at UGA, super nice and knowledgeable, his office hours are very helpful and he always will give you good feedback on papers, lectures were funny and was very clear on grading as well
Excellent teacher at generating interest in the topic, class was heavy on casual discussion (especially on current events) rather than boring lectures, awesome professor who cares about his students
Dr. Lynch is a very knowledgeable professor and a hilarious lecturer. I genuinely enjoyed going to his class after a major political event happened to hear his sarcastic and no-nonsense take on the news. You are graded on two exams and two ten-page papers. The papers were manageable and he was a very forgiving grader on our exams. Take this class!
hes a nice guy-- clearly cares about the subject, class isn't hard if you show up, but if you're taking him for pols1101H be prepared to do more work than any other pols1101 class, even honors sections. for some reason he likes to focus on nuanced/obscure content. you'll survive its just annoying.
He was very understanding. Pay attention and take notes in class because that information is important to be able to discuss on the tests. None of the questions on the tests were multiple choice, but they were fair/ reasonable questions. Papers don't have to be that long. Very kind and funny professor.
He is great! I took his Honors section and it was easy. Attendance was req but the lectures were actually interesting. 1 quiz per week outside of class but you are guaranteed a 100. There were 4 assignments throughout the semester that weren't that difficult. The only thing is that the 2 exams are all open response but study and its not bad.
We had lectures and a discussion class with attendance. His lectures were pretty good and entertaining. Tests are very doable if you study what he lectures on in class, and he doesn't post his slides. Would take POLS with him again!
His lectures are very interesting and he talks about a lot of relevant topics. The tests were pretty challenging but he gives really good study guides to help you prepare. Class is not mandatory and usually the tests only covered things from the textbook rather than class. Overall a pretty easy class and a good professor.
Dr. Lynch is great and recognizes that this course is a university requirement, though tries to relate personally to lectures and keep them engaging. The expectation is clear with a weekly inquizitive and chapter reading, three midterm exams and a final. The breakout session was also a simple recap of the week's material, attendance needed.
Dr. Lynch is truly one of the best professors I have had since attending UGA. He puts real effort into his lectures and assignments, and student feedback is important to him. I can't speak for his non-honors level courses with larger class sizes, but I genuinely enjoyed this class despite government being a topic I don't care much about.
Lynch is a great lecturer, very funny and he tries to connect content with current happenings. Attendance is not mandatory for lectures, but he gives direct hints when stuff will be on exams, so I would go.
He is an amazing professor, and this class may have been a boring state requirement but I enjoyed it. Attendance was not mandatory during the lectures, but required for breakout sessions. He tells you what will be on the test, so I strongly recommend going to the lectures.
Professor Lynch brings a great sense of humor to his POLS1101 class. While the lectures may not always be super helpful, the content is manageable if you read the textbook and use resources like unstuckstudy for study prep. Overall, an entertaining and fairly easy course.
He's nice, but the class has close to zero structure: there are no slides, he just talks and it's often off-topic, so there's not much to study before exams (45% of overall grade). The midterm was 13 questions or so based on "lectures." Readings were never used/checked, he just talked all class and talked over students when they asked questions.
Lynch is great. He just redid this class so he's still figuring out what he fully wants it to look like, but he did a great job. There were 2 papers, and for both of them he offered feedback in advance if you turned in a rough draft a week before it was due. Easy grader, and he releases study guides for the midterm/final.
Dr Lynch is a great professor. Very understanding and friendly. The class can be challenging and information dense, but Dr Lynch always took time to explain and allow for questions. Three tests + Paper + Attendance consists of your grade. What you put into this class is what you get out of it. Very reasonable expectations, and a great guy. 9/10 :)
I love Dr. Lynch! He's an amazing professor, finds ways to make everything feel relevant and useful. The class was pretty lecture-heavy with a lot of reading, but you get out what you put in. He's a pretty lenient grader with his tests, although you definitely have to be familiar with the readings to do well. Highly reccomend this professor!!
