OK math is not my best subject T_T, on the plus side Michael is very funny and keeps things interesting. So far he seem to really respect the students and be fair to them.
Highly reccomend this teacher. Michael is by far the best math teacher I've had at GRC. He 's super funny and good at explaining statistics. He even offers exttra study session with him every week if you need it.
I like the way he cares for students. If we are not doing well, he often ask for feedback on his side so that he can improve in helping us. Besides that, I also like his teaching style which sometimes he jokes about something. This relaxed me because math is a very hard subject that often make you stressed. Would take him next quarter!
He is very generous and kind toward students
He's a really good person, he cares a lot about his students and he's really helpful outside of class. He's really passionate about his subjects but the materials are just too hard and most of the time he's too vague. He's just a really good person to work together with overall. But his exams and quizzes can be really tough so be prepared
Mr. Macon is a great teacher. It is clear that he wants you to learn and to succeed, and he does everything he can to make that possible. He does a lot of group work and is more than fair with grading. He gives plenty of opportunity for you to raise your grade if you are willing to put in a little extra work. His humor is an extra bonus!
Before the finals it was still fine. The practice exam are similar to the real exams even though they are variations of it. But, the final exam are really different to the practice final exam. It was different than previous exams standards. Suddenly, it get pretty hard.
I took his Math256. He cares his students and trying to explain everything to you. He is a great teacher.
Professor Macon is one of the best math teachers I have had, period. He has a great attitude in class and is always willing to answer questions and help, even outside of class. He also always tries to explain 'why' things are a certain way instead of just telling us to memorize something. Great teacher. Highly recommend.
Really good teacher. Focuses on every detail and explains in a fairly simple way so that the students can understand. Really helpful and accessible outside class.
He's hilarious and caring. I was kinda hating on him at first since it's hard to tell if he was joking or not when he didn't smile at all. But then 1 or 2 weeks in, I realized how good Macon is. He really does care about his students. Highly recommended
Very nice professor, took his statistic class (Math 256) , and math 151. got both of them in A+. always give students extra credit. Usually, there will be three exam and one final exam in his class. you will get practice exam before each exam, if you can do them well, you will get good grade in exam.
One of the BEST professors I've had. I was really nervous beginning this class as math is not a strong suit, but he makes it a lot simpler than I would have expected. It is still tough, just takes practice. Invest time into the practice exams, it will be so helpful! His humor is a huge plus, and his overall personality is great.
I would give him 10 stars out of 7. His lectures are pretty easy to follow and if you don't understand something, he goes over it and gives easy and logical explanations. He doesn't make the lectures complicated. He is VERY CARING. Office hours are great if you're struggling with something. I'd never want to skip his class bc HE MAKES MATH FUN!
Mr. Macon is a solid teacher. He can get distracted or confused sometimes, which drags the class, but overall his lectures were clear and he was always happy to answer questions. The book is free, but you have to pay $30 to set up WebAssign. Only used book for a few chapters, but I really appreciated its approach when I was lost during lecture.
So I have ALWAYS sucked at math but his class was the first math one where I actually got a very good grade! He's very caring and makes his lectures super simple and easy to follow. He provides the easiest ways to solve a problem. I would definitely take him again.
His teaching method is easy to follow, and he is really see the afford if the students try to follow up with the materials.
I took Michael for both Calc 1 and Statistics and I gotta say, this man has saved my math grade on multiple occasions. He's a really caring person so if you ever have questions or concerns, he'll help you and also not be judgmental about it. Overall, he's a great teacher, his lectures are easy to follow, and lets you know what's on the exam.
He is a great teacher and the tests are exactly like the pre-tests.
He gets confused a lot of the times, which really delay the progress in class, but he did finish the syllabus, but I don't learn much from him. He is always explaining the definition, which makes him do not have time to give more examples of how to solve the questions. But if you approach him with questions he is happy to help you!
Great instructor! I took his classes twice for the first and third calculus. He really cares about students, and always available outside the class. You have to attend all the classes to get a good grade AND understand the concepts. All HW is online on WebAssign. It is good to read a textbook. He isn't very easy for people without math background.
Professor Macon is a friendly person. I took a statistics class from him, and he was friendly. A friendly person makes the world beautiful.
Professor Macon is very understanding and helps you step by step in learning statistics. If you come to class, participate, and study before tests then don't even worry. Alos, you get a sheet of paper for every test for notes. But the hw is a little tricky, I would suggest to go to the Math Learning Center for help.
Don't take his class, his lecture is very unclear and he will let you teach yourself like watching Youtube on weekends. He won't teach these kinds of stuff unless you ask him during the class, and his grading is very bad, he usually makes mistake during grading tests.
Worst!!
Best!!
Easy 4.0
Great instructor! Sped through the material (maybe because of summer quarter) but got the job done! Allowed homework questions to be asked in class before due date.
He explains stuff clearly and leaves a lot of time for questions, so everybody gets to ask what about things they don't understand. If you still don't understand - he'll be happy to help after class. Tests are not too hard, and overall he is a great guy!
He'll occasionally fly through a lecture and assume you know what he is talking about - so if you aren't a math person you'll probably get confused. He is super passionate about stats though and loves helping. He's super dorky and awkward - but all around understanding prof. Drops your lowest exam out of the 4 you take + a final exam.
Prof Macon is the best math teacher I have ever had. This was my first college level math class and though I didn't do as well as I have in the past, I would absolutely take his class again. He is incredibly kind, helpful, and funny. Always extremely helpful during office hours and via email. Online homework can be confusing but he helps. Best ever
Macon's lectures were very organized and straight-forward. We often spent the first part of class going over homework problems, and questions. Tests were reasonable and the homework wasn't too difficult either.
Michael Macon has a lot to work on. He is completely unorganized in lectures and will sporadically focus on subjects not related to the textbook or exams. He grades easily on quizzes but will bring your grade down from an A to a D because he grades much more heavily on little things. It is week 9 rn and there has been only one exam from week 2. :(
easy to get 2.0
Michael is so funny and made going to class very fun. Attendance wasnt mandatory but he always encouraged students to come to class. It would be hard to pass the class without going to his lectures. He explains everything in a clear way and goes over homework questions in class if needed. Pretty much the only thing in the gradebook was our tests
Lots of practice hands out. Hw had unlimited attempts. Teaching style was alright. However the examples in class did not help with the homework. Does go overall hw in class. Exams are hard, problems on it isn't on the hw. Study guide for the final was given 2 days before the exam. Quiz every week. Also don't email because he never response.
explanation is bad. and tough grader, I have never got bad grade except his class.
Macon is awesome. You really learn in his class and he makes it fun. Lectures are mostly to the point but he throws in some humor too. Ive had no problem following him. Best math prof at FTC so far!
I really learn alot in his class. He gives unlimited chance for completing homework and he is often available to meet outside class for working on problems. He is very friendly kind person.
Meet with him right away if you have questions. I took his online class it was very straight forward however I feel taking his class in person would be very helpful with all the material you learn. It all builds on top of each concept so getting a good foundation is helpful and so is chegg tutor subscription.
Literally the worst class I've taken at GRC so far. NO EXTRA CREDIT!
No extra credit. Tons of homework in Sapling. If the final grade is higher than the rest, he will replace the lowest grade you had by the final grade.
He willingly spends time in class solving homework problems thoroughly if you ask, truly care about the students. Easy 4.0 if you work hard and be diligent.
What he teaches in the class is not related to the homework. The test is not even closed with the practice test. Easy to pass the pass the pass with 2.0. Get ready for being confused by Macon. The attendance is mandatory BUT even you go to class every single day, you cannot understand.
Professor Macon really teaches you Stats, and how to not be fooled by stats. I wouldnt say its an easy A because you really have to wrap your mind around some new concepts. But Macon is super patient and will work on any questions you have, including during office hours.
I had studied alone with sapling site which costs like more than $100. He is caring and passionate about statistics but his lecture is unorganized and hard to follow. He teaches one and expect students to do three or more. He rarely reply to your email. DO NOT take his class unless you want to waste your money!!
He know the material. He is smart but his explanations are so complicated. He cannot keep logical flow. It looks like he is lost and the class is lost too
There is a TON of homework, and a TON of reading. But he essentially goes over the readings during his lectures. So if you pay attention in class you can skip the readings and jump to the homework. If you're good at math and understanding why you're doing things, then this class might be for you. I found him to be very funny but just didn't like HW
I've seen good review, but do not take his class via online. Due to the corona virus, I had to take him online and it was rough. He does not tell you the structure of his class/ tests so you are very unprepared. He also does not explain very well. I'm sure it was not enjoyable mostly by it being online. Just do not take his class online.
Michael is a very understanding professor. He usually gives practice exams or practice quizzes before every exams. There are 8 quizzes and 3 exams in total including the final. His lectures are not that complicated, as he will take times to explain the example problems. There were NOT too many homework, and we have sufficient time to complete it.
Took him during COVID. A short quiz every week. His lecture videos were amazing and helped me a lot with the homework. The first two midterms may be tough, but the final is super easy.
Macon spent a lot of time explaining the origin of each formula rather than the application to our assignments. Reading the textbook was much more helpful than his lectures. However, I enjoyed his relaxed style of grading. Overall, I would take him again.
His online homeworks are very easy if you watch and understand his lectures on youtube , he is not a heavy grader , he gives quizzes and HW every once a week , his tests every twice a week.
The only reason why I chose to take his class was because I've seen quite good reviews about how he's caring and how he explains stuff pretty well. Well, If I were you, I wouldn't take his class. I've got 4.0 for all math classes, and I don't know the final grade for this clas yet, but his exam is super confusing and his lectures are hard
He is a very responsive and understanding professor and the materials he assigned helped me learn stats really well. His quizzes and tests were all open book/open note, so take good notes and make notecards and you'll be fine. The class is set up with a quiz per week, plus 2 midterms and a final. I really liked this format and his class overall!
He's really nice and understanding. Just follow his lectures and you will be good to go. The best thing is he doesn't use the lockdown browser and doesn't have to turn in work for some quizzes as well. Good luck!
He's a slow responder. His material also quite thoughtful, and so does the homework. Be ready for the weekly quiz, but the questions are similar to the Homework.
I took his class online during Spring 2021 and all was well, until the final. I missed 1 of the 7 questions on the final which dropped my overall grade in the class from a 4.0 to a 3.6. I reached out to him via email to see what I could do and never received a reply. Pretty unfair that the final was multiple choice and couldn't show work for credit
Bad communication. Homework, quizzes, and exams heavily rely on the textbook, which I personally had a hard time deciphering. There is a quiz and homework assignment every week and only two exams that are worth 50% of your grade. If you're like me and would rather have examples from lectures that might appear on quizzes, this class is not for you.
took him for summer quarter and had homework and quizzes every week, but if you put effort in his class, they should be easy. quizzes questions are similar to homework. and don't do homework last minute and you should be good
He gives out two tests a midterm that's worth 20% & a final that's worth 30% of the grade. Also, you have a quiz due the following week about the previous week's topic, and you have about 18-30 math questions of homework per week. The quizzes are most similar to the tests, while the homework doesn't. Lastly, he doesn't lecture; he gives YT links
Lots of homework that is due weekly. Ended up using other youtube videos to teach myself the topics he would teach. All the tests combined take a total of 50% of your grade, homework is important to your grade too. Not many questions on the tests though and are taken on the same website as the homework (not WAMAP). Can't show work for partial creds
His lectures are good, yet there's always homework problems that aren't represented in lectures, so some outside resources are good to use. Regardless, he's easily accessible and will go out of his way to help you until you completely understand the topics. Also, he grades easy and gives plenty of time for quizzes/exams.
Professor was good. Don't expect to speak with the professor at all if your online unless you make a meeting, but makes up for it by giving easy quizzes. Straightforward grading, and quiz questions are basic/easiest problems from hw. He posts random videos, but I just read provided online textbook. Midterm/finals 6 questions;2x quiz length, p easy
Professor Macon is one of the best professor at GRC. He is very understanding. The quizzes are relatively easy, and the tests are not difficult. He is willing to give homework extension if you really need it.
Lots of homework due each week - Lessons, homework, and discussion posts for the most part (try not to procrastinate until the last minute). Professor Macon provides step-by-step solutions with explanations to problems you may be stuck on. Exams are not bad as it consists of 5 questions - you'll do well as long as you show your work!
Mr. Macon is a fantastic instructor for 3 reasons. 1) He is lenient with extensions. If you talk to him or send him an email with a valid reason, he won't hesitate to give you an extension. 2) He has easy tests, you can take them at any point in the day, with partial credit. 3) He is passionate about math. I did not have to use textbook
This professor was reallyyy understanding. I loved his online class and highly recommend it. This is the first time I 4.0 a math class. Homework was super easy (only a couple problems due every Saturday) and a occasional discussion post. you can take tests with notes!
Typical online math class with weekly homework sets on Webassign. Michael is always willing to help you out so send him an email if you need extra help. Make sure to turn on class announcements because that is where he posts extra practice materials for quizzes and exams. There are 9 quizzes (you get two drops), a midterm, and final.
One of the best teachers I've had at Green River. If you sit in on one of his lectures, you can tell he is quite intelligent. He is always willing to help students. One thing worth mentioning is he doesn't assign homework, but gives weekly quizzes. If you don't mind weekly quizzes, I would definitely recommend taking his class.
He was one of the best math teachers I have taken. VERY kind, always helpful. I took him when he was hybrid, he had open notes for his tests. They were medium in difficulty but you can pass easily. He is super approachable so if you're confused I recommend just asking him! Homework was easy, should be able to fly through his class quick
I took Michael Macon for 151, the main problem his is how everything is spreed out, as in his test are worth 50% and his HW is worth 20% and his Quiz are worth 30%. This for me wouldn't be a problem but his exam are 8 question!!!! So if you miss even one or two questions your grade is a 70. That and he tends to rant a lot about everything.
I signed up for his online class but I ended up regretting it.The course itself was simple but it required reading the book and watching other videos because his own videos were messy. They were recorded three years ago and he seemed unsure of what he was saying during his lectures. Its best to avoid his class if you want to learn something properly
The professor himself is quite amiable, but he tends to display a lack of enthusiasm in his approach. His lectures were pre-recorded amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and he continues to utilize them, leading to delays in the grading process. Despite having only quizzes and exams to grade, receiving feedback can be a lengthy process taking several weeks
Took him for Calc 3. Multiple extra credit options. Didn't go by the book, but used examples from the textbook. Kind of heavy on tests/quizzes, but he asked whether we wanted homework to be part of the grade and changed based on class vote. VERY lenient on deadlines for homework, and gave 100 tries to get problems done. Very engaging and humble.
Most of the reviews here say that his lectures were confusing, but I think this was mostly due to the fact that he prioritized application and disambiguity over easy understanding. This is fine if you're in his stats class, but it could be more difficult in a calc class. The guy himself is awesome, he gave me so many extensions on things I forgot.
Mr. Macon is a great professor. He's nice and caring. Calc 3 is kind of mixed up because the first half of the class has nothing to do with the 2nd half, but he still manages to teach it well. My only complaint is that he looks exactly like the older version of my friend from high school. It is possible he is a clone... or maybe my friend is.
I took 151 online and there were 0 lectures or instruction. he basically gave us the assignments and said good luck. I ended up teaching myself everything that was in the class. We wouldn't know if we had a quiz or a test coming up until he told us witch was (in the extreme) less than 24 hours before unless you had a schedule from the syllabus.
His lectures are mostly bland and consist of him demonstrating solutions and proofs without much explanation. Content suffered from being rushed later in the quarter. Homework rather uninspiring. This may sound like a bad review, but those are the only negatives. Great guy, caring, funny, helpful in his office hours. Average class, not exceptional.
Your average math professor, he was good at teaching and he used another website outside of canvas to assign homework and quizzes. Every week we had an in person quiz and every couple weeks, an exam and then a couple of assignments due online. He just talks too much and gets off topic and it got on my nerves at 9am but he's a nice guy.
I like how he explains things. Willing to explain after class enquiries, and is a funny and kind person. Weekly quizzes, three exams (total worth 50% of your grade), extra credits in exams, and homeworks with 100 tries and 999 latepass (he gave us that much since the class kept on asking for more). Highly recommended professor!
One of the BEST math professors at GRC. Expect quizzes almost every week, but I personally liked that because it actually makes the tests easier, so you don't really have to do last minute cramming.Tests are okay, he sometimes uses slightly harder numbers though. Passing his class is not that hard. Overall, amazing professor. I'll miss his class!
He's really nice (some of the reviews here are from online lectures just go in person he's really chill) and the topics were not too hard to digest if you go to his office hour, overall a good teacher.
Took his online class. Homework, quizzes, and discussions every week. On midterm and one finals with 50%. His lecture videos were great but I had to buyWebAssign to do homework for $45. Quizzes and exams are pretty easy though, but one mistake and you lose 5 points since they are multiple choice questions.
Took math141, but it's not on here, Great professor! Lots of homework, but so is every class in college. Tests are based on WAMAP homework so make sure to review those to succeed. He responds to emails fast and will make videos working through problems if you need help, they're also provided on some assignments too.
Mr. Macon is a great professor. Semi-weekly quizzes and he usually gives a heads up for them several days in advance. He can explain things so quickly, but in such an understandable manner. Sometimes I wouldn't have enough time to write down notes, but he posts lecture notes after class. Very genuine guy, I looked forward to his class each day.
Top 3 best professors at Green River, easily. I'll definitely remember his class since he made math so interesting. Definitely take his class if you can.
Great professor overall. The lectures were great but would highly recommended learning outside of class to get the whole picture of the concepts. The grading scale was test heavy with 60% being tests 30% being quizzes 10% being HW. Would highly recommend coming to him during office hours. Overall the class was a bit challenging. But no surprises.
While Professor Macon is caring and kind, his teaching was very hard to follow and didn't explain things very well. His teaching is scattered. If you are someone who needs examples and in depth explanations DO NOT take his class! However, he is always willing to help and if you end up taking him take advantage of that!!!!
Mr. Macon is very considerate, however his teaching is at times quite jumpy. He'll go from one topic to another and it can get very confusing at times. READ THE TEXTBOOK, if you don't read the book you'll definitely fail. He's pretty open minded to things but definitely study for at least 1 week before each exam, as they're worth almost 50% total.
I took 142 and the class itself was difficult and as a professor Macon can be a bit lacking. I felt like there were minimal class materials to help us succeed and as a person he is super kind and caring and is probably the nicest professor I have had. But I certainly do not prefer his teaching style.
