Absolutly the best professor ever, super clear and fair

He is very clear with what he expects from students. He guides you by assigning only the relevant chapter sections and homework that will be covered for the test. He lectures very well.... keep up and do the work and you should be able to earn an A.

Excellent professor. Wayne State runs chem classes with quiz sections..beyond professors control. Tests are tricky but it seperates those who care from those who don't. With his lectures and studying, doing well should not be difficult.

Great teacher. You will learn a lot of chemistry in his class which can be overwhelming if you don't keep up. Tests are difficult but tests only on subjects taught... if you actually do the reading/homework and go to class the exams are cake.

Awesome teacher...expects you to do great but doesn't overload you. Gives great notes that are easy to follow along with.

Has T.A.'s grade labs very easily, tests are the buffers though, they are kind of tough.

He's an excellent teacher. The exams are quite hard, but if you do the work you should be fine. His notes are quite informational and easy to follow. He also reiterate on information that you should already learned in gen. chem or orgo 1.

Excellent Chemistry teacher. Take this man if you can. He is fair, cares about students, is funny, and is interesting to listen to. I have a three hour lecture with him, and it flies by fast. Do your reading though, it helps insurmountably.

Maguire was one of my favorite professors here. He knows his chem real well, and gives great notes and lectures. Hint: Dont miss a lecture, his test questions are generally examples right from the notes. Overall, hes awesome though.

He is a really good teacher, probably the best organic teacher at wayne state. He notes are very important because thats where the exam questions come from. Also really nice guy.

Course materials sometimes outdated or given late. Lectures are interesting and understandable. Some of the course material was expected to be self-taught (NMR). Exams are always based on lab material but not as direct as students would like.

i totally hated the material, but he made it so easy to understand. his tests were on the tough side, but if he feels you truly deserve a boost, he'll help you out in every way possible. he's really funny and is extremely cool outside the classroom.

His exams are straight out of the notes, and he cuts out all the ****. You probably wont need the book if u go to lecture. and you actually feel like u learn and understand something. Great professor, I was fortunate to have him for chemistry.

Very cool teacher and very knowledgeable. Attending the sometimes interesting lectures makes for no surprises on exams. The only downside is the hard finals. Regardless, still one of the best on CHM teachers on staff.

He was a great teacher. Understandable lecture. Notes were great. For exams all you have to do is memorize notes. He gave us tons of extra credit on the final exam for Honors! Really nice, good sense of humor.

HES OVERRATED! Maguire makes a good presentation but thats about it. He skims and leaves alot of information out, leaving you learning the minimal from his lectures. If you want to do well on his tests you need to do some self-study.

Clear lecturer, always clearly understood his material (probably more than most professors), could focus while keeping the bigger picture in mind, intelligently funny, seemed like a guy that just has an inherent coolness, could have bad days though. A rare and great professor.

he is a great professor and has a sexy english accent. his exams are based straight off of his lecture notes. he is a very understanding prof and is extremely nice. you will leave the class fulfilled and happy :-) even at 830 in the morning every other summer morning he can make you feel alive!

Absolutly wonderful, aside from a wonderful accent to listen to, his teaching methods were great. He taught simply so everyone could understand. Time flew by and tests were fair and not to difficult. If you have a chance to take him, its worth your while.

Dr. Maguire tries his best to be funny and has his occasional moments. That is the only thing remotely close to a complaint that I can say about him. He is an awesome professor and there is never a dull lecture in his class. BTW, in his class, say Aluminium rather than Aluminum for a good chuckle :)

Too easy. I really don't like the way he says "I don't care" all the time, he doesn't care about important details. Like some others here, I walked away feeling like I didn't learn much... other than how to take his exams. His teaching focus is primarily preparing for his exams.

i've had him twice and as far as i'm concerned he can teach me through my chemistry degree. very understandable, interesting lectures, approachable, smart, and funny. never in my life have i had a chem professor that actually took the time to come to the lab and help us out. A++

I have been at Wayne State for 5 years and have taken over a dozen Science classes. In all that time I have never had a science teacher as good as Dr. Maguire. He manages to take a very difficult subject and make it seem easy. If there is any way possible for you to take him, do it!!

Probably the best Chemistry teacher at Wayne State. His presentations are very clear and to the point and he does not hesitate to answer questions. His exams were a piece of cake (answer the 4 questions you know the best, out of 6).

i would say that this is the best teacher at wayne state or any other college, becuase of his great teaching skills and his ability to actually teach you a subject that may seem impossible, made me want to persue a degree in chemistry hope i have him as a professor in my later chemistry classes

Very good orgo teacher. Exams are more or less fair, but not easy by any means. Grading is more than fair. If you work hard he will take care of you.

Best lab instructor I've ever had at Wayne State. Organized, clear and makes sense of the material. Good communication and had our grades posted in a timely manner. I hope to have him again for organic lab 2.

The best orgo chm teacher ever! I recommend strongly to take him if you have to take an orgo class. Makes the concepts easy and crystal clear! Exams are right from the notes, which represent the textbook very nicely. Very funny too =)

DR.Maguire is by far the best chem prof at WSU.He can make anyone understand Chem,if you do your part,too.Exams are fair,kind of long,but if you read and understand the notes,you'll do very well.Great personality,very helpfull,gives extra credit.You can feel he is there to help the students.Take him for as many chem classes you can!

I took his class summer of '04, and was the SI leader for him, summer '05. The guy is consistently thorough every year. STUDY HIS PRACTICE TESTS: don't change much from year to year, and are great study guides. The ONLY downside is the chem dept often doesn't give him good TAs. Get him for 1240 then Zibuck for 2220, NOT DR. CHA (usu. fall sem)

The clarity and eloquence with which he speaks will make anyone want to learn chemistry out of their own free will. This guy only teaches you the important stuff and not the other small **** things that other profs like to trick students with. Intelligence of the highest order....this guy was born to teach!

Okay this guy is definately over-rated. I'm sure he curves really well but when it comes to teaching he is so unorganized. His notes do not make sense when read alone, you have to read the book to actually understand the material. And he needs to stop mumbling.

Easy A if you take it seriously. Just memorize the notes, do the homework, read the book to clarify and you should be fine.

Okay...I'm not a science person, but Dr. Maguire has a way with teaching that grabbed my attention and held it all semester. It ended up being one of my favorite classes for my undergraduate degree.

TAKE THIS TEACHER! If you need your basic science credit, this is the guy to do it from. So interesting, easy, and informative.

The notes for labs are clear. The only study guide for the midterm you get is your labs. Make sure to do excellent on the lab work. Though, the midterm and the final are confusing, he may be curving them! Overall, good lab professor with great British accent!

Simply, an amazing professor and person. U learn alot plus he makes it fun and rewarding to study and want to learn. He gives real life examples and encourages thinking outside the box. ok guys, he normal is a easy teacher, but i guess the department got pissed bc he is too easy! so he became hard this semister. although a little trick is, just ask him at office hours whats going to be on the test (in a slick way) and he will tell you, EVERYTHING! not an overall hard class, BUT DONT MESS UP 2 TESTS!!! or you cant get an A..

i loved going to lab lectures at 8:30 because this isnt boring like stupid lindvet.very clear on his lectures and serioulsy if you get below a B in his lab class..maybe you should consider why you're in c lass..since labs are not bad because you get a week and exams are straighfoward problems from the labs.

Great instructor. He is extremely knowledgeable & very interesting. I thought his class was pretty hard though for an intro class. Attendance is crucial if you want to pass the exams. A lot of the test items come from lecture. The test are hard, the class averages were very low and he doesn't curve.

Excellent professor work load was pretty easy review your notes and you will do well and make sure to come to class or you will be lost he gives extra credit 25pts and grades on a curve gotta love this man

Very smart guy. His lectures were boring, but if you don't go and get notes you will fail. Tests are off the lectures and for an intro class this was way too hard. My friend goes to UofM and his intro chem was not this hard. Final is easy, it is all off prior tests which he gives the keys to. Got a B- cuz grading scale is lowered. A 62% is a C-.

Honestly, I took this class winter 2007 I was failing this class 50's & 60's on my exams on the final I got a 70. I did the extra credit assignment & got a B+ for my final grade. Definitely take him even if you are not doing good n the beginning do not drop him he does not like to fail anyone @ the 1000 level.

I had him over the summer 2007 and I think he was very fair and clear. Lecture attendance is mandatory, and if you take excellent notes, reading the book is not necessary. I aced his class without ever doing the homework. Definitely do-able.

His lab class is not as clear as his lecture; it depends more on who your TA is. While the grading of the labs is fair, the midterm and finals were a bit tough, so study hard for those. Not bad though.

Exams were kind of lengthy but he knows his stuff. Lecture isn't worth much and the Lab depends on the TA. Easy Lecture but exams could have been a little easier.

Good teacher. Not an easy class but a good class. Not a class for lazy students. Need to come to class, take good notes, read the book, do book problems and you should be fine.

Maguire is the man. Compared to every other chem teacher, for real, he's by far the best. If you can get Maguire, your set. Everything is from his notes. Everything. Study notes during lectures and do the HW problems in the book. Do that, you'll understand the material enough to get an A.

For someone who was dreading chemistry and was expecting to fail, i was amazingly suprised at how managable the class was. Hes just one of those teachers who gives such good, structured, blunt lectures that as long as you go to class and take some notes your golden. Hes great and actually pretty humorous. He made chemistry bareable even for me.

There is a God, because this man taught me chemistry! I got a B+, btw I got a D in chem in high school. He is so clear, class wasnt officially mandatory but everything comes from notes, i only used the book for the periodic table. He is very funny. Take it with lab if you can, awesome grade booster.

I despised chemistry before his class and now find it far more interesting and understandable. He is witty AND attractive- which helps when it's in your best interest to pay attention!

Very good professor, his teaching is clear, understandable and very helfpul he gives good examples, he knows what he's talking abt. U must attent the class in order to get an A study the hw problems, and know his notes.

Dr. Maguire is the professor to take if you want an A in orgo. Finished with 107% without opening the book. The only issue I have with him is that he only teaches you what he deems is important, which can be problematic if you are taking the M/PCAT. If you take Orgo 1 with him be sure to take Orgo 2 with him too, or you will be completely lost.

This guy is AMAZING! He is a great professor because he teaches you what you need to know and not everything else that is useless. Study old exams and you will be fine. He has a sweet british accent and cracks jokes all the time. I'd recommend this teacher over anyone else for chemisty. Make sure you do not skip and lecture and the book is useless.

This guy is a genius. I love the fact that he makes you think why things work the way they do. As mentioned before, make sure you attend the class and take notes and you will never need the book. Pick this teacher over any other. You don't have to go to class and he post all his notes. You can learn it at your own convenience. I went to a total of 5 classes all semester and did fine.

Dr. Maguire is hilarious. I went to class just to listen to his jokes. Really easy to pass as long as you do the written assignments, quizzes, and study off of the notes. He posts all of his exams from previous years and lets you keep your own exam to study for the final. Would definitely recommend. He made chemistry easy.

3 exams and throws out worst score, ten written assignments (easy), 10 quizzes (online) and the final was online which was AMAZING!! great professor too, couldn't ask for a better chem course!!! Oh DON'T buy the text never used it

What can I say. THE BEST FREAKING ORGANIC CHEMISTRY TEACHER EVER. I had the privilege of him teaching me organic chemistry. I hated chemistry after organic I because he did not teach it, but this guy made me love chemistry again! In organic 2! He also has a great sense of humor. His exams are fair and he gives extra credit sometimes.

Quizzes are easy as well. Easy class as long as you keep up with the notes and do the practice problems.

Great professor. Had him for Orgo 1 and 2. These are very challenging courses but he makes the material very interesting. Most of his exam questions come from his notes so attendance is a must. He's way harder than phlum. My lab partner friends are in phlum's class and their not doing half the stuff we do. I'm not complaining though, its preparation for the mcat. Exams are tough but fair. He posts notes and exams whhich is useful. He explains everything. Will take him again for orgo 2

Just took him for orgo 1. Was very pleased I learned a lot. You can get in the 70s on the tests and ace the final and do the extra credit and still pull of an A. You defintely feel like you deserve it too because the class is a lot of work but he's a great prof if you want to learn.

Good teacher, no complaints. Kept class intresting and taught in a way that made it very easy to understand. Very cool and funny, he is also alot of help if you have a question. Don't try and cheat though! He has an eye like a hawk haha he will catch you.

not my cup of tea, gave homework but it did not relate to what we learned. skips around a lot making it difficult to understand mechanisms. Lets just say im glad to be done with the class and even though i should retake it, im NOT!!! and hes not as great as people say

Great Prof., he will help you out, do the homework, GO TO OFFICE HOURS AT LEAST ONCE and express any difficulty you have, email him and he will bump you up if you need help. Tough class, but exams are straight from his notes. He is a very good teacher and is crystal clear in explaining the material. Very harsh grading and he reduced the extra credit from 20 to 15 points. Does not curve so don't hope for one.

Great teacher,explains everything.Just had to study his notes for the tests,but it helps to do the practice problems from the book.Really his notes are enough though,study them really really well.Orgo is a tough class so be prepared to spend a lot of time practicing and studying.Great professor though,goes over everything he wants you to know.

I had him for lab and lecture in the summer, and I really liked him. He was very easy to understand, and taught STRAIGHT from his notes. Tests were tricky for us in the summer. Otherwise he is a fair teacher and does help out in the end with ur final grade.

Maguire is one of the best professors at Wayne for teaching organic chem..1240.. he has the best presentations and is a straight forward guy and is funny, he knows his stuff, in order to pass this class though its gonna take hard work and time will be sacrificed, GO to all quizzes and SI"s like i did and you'll get an A..take him for orgo 2 too!

I found his lectures to be very helpful. I am more of a visual person and he gave a lot of examples when teaching each topic of Organic Chemistry.

Dr. Maguire is by far the best professor I have had at WSU. He is extremely intelligent and teaches you not only about chemistry but how to reason and think above and beyond. Taking his Orgo 1/Orgo 2 will no doubt prep you for the MCAT/PCAT. He is amazing and I learned more in his class than any other class. Go to office hours & do hw problems!

Best Professor I've ever had. Knows what he is talking about and is able to teach it in a very basic way. Any class with him is, good news.

Maguire seems like a great teacher, but I think he would be better in a higher level class. He contradicts himself by saying the book sucks and teach it "his" way, YET base his exams off of the book. For the final, no review and not written by him. -__- Funny at times, but I wished he taught with the book since thats what his exams are from.

My favorite proffessor at Wayne State by far. He is an amazing teacher. Besides him being the next James Bond, he REALLY knows his stuff. He even goes into more things the book doesnt even discusses. His class is hilarious. The only class i actually looked forward to attending. No better teach to take for orgo one and two besides him.

For me, chemistry is not my strong point but Dr. Maguire makes this class interesting. He uses great examples and if you pay attention, you will do great. Almost no homework except studying which you got to study a lot but all in all, a great class.

Maguire is a great professor! Very straight forward lectures and exams are straight from his notes. This is a tough class, but an A is very doable. Depends on how much time you put in.

Awesome prof!! Had him for orgo 1 and 2 and definitely wouldn't have done it any other way. Crystal clear on his notes, and his exams are right off his notes. He makes lecture interesting and is funny in a sarcastic way. I'm gonna miss orgo because of him.

Helps you to understand a difficult subject quite effectively; he's a work/reward educator. Extremely quality prof!!!

chm 1420 was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, but it's orgo 2 so that's expected. maguire was really the best teacher to teach this class. I learned a lot and appreciated his teaching style (and espescially his notes!). he was really an excellent professor :)

A great professor!!! He made learning the last half of orgo 1 and orgo 2 such a fun subject. He's almost always in his office if you ever need help to go over specific problems. Another great thing I loved about his class is that he almost never made us look at the text book. Great professor and I recommend him very much!

I graduated in 2004. Maguire was not going to teach this class (organo II). We had another prof. When Maguire walked in and we discovered Maguire was to be the new prof, he got a standing ovation from the class. The guy was great lecturer, very concise and organized lectures, therefore concise and organized notes.

This guy is the best. He actually cares about his students. Go to his office hours if you have problems and he will spend as much time as neccessary to help you. I suck at orgo but he helped me get through it and understand it. Just dont go whinning to him the last day of class begging for a better grade. This is college people, grow up

Dr. Maguire is one if the best Professors for Orgo. I am tellin u Orgo is HARD! it is like learning a new language in 3 months but Dr. Maguire is so good at explaining things. Very organized, gets to the point, and extremely helpful during office hours. TAKE HIM! But expect to do TONS! of work. Do the homework, it helps and do the practice exams.

Took him in summer Org1.Exams were tough. He's a very good prof and wants his students 2 succeed UNLIKE Zibuck who's rude. Maguire wants his students 2 do well. But He HATES ppl who cheat. I witnessed ppl getting caught cheatin on final exam sitting next 2 me. He was pissed. Hes gonna make the nxt exam IMPOSSIBLE if he finds out ppl cheat. Honestly

He is very willing to help you if you are honest and put in the work. Do the homework and his past exams multiple times.

I have him for Orgo II currently and the class is 6-7:20PM. Very weird time, but the reason why I love going to class is because he is HILARIOUS. Keeps the class awake, and is friendly to all of his students. Unlike other orgo prof's who think they're Gods, he's more of a friend. He's always on time, and makes lectures quiet interesting. 10/10.

wonderful professor. hilarious guy. crystal clear. extremely intelligent. exams are not that challenging and you actually understand what youre doing (UNLIKE WITH ZIBUCK!) I will miss orgo 2 because of him....never thought id say that.

Losing him as a professor at WSU is like losing a gem. He was the best chemistry professor at Wayne State.

Left WSU for Concordia University, Texas. Such an inspiration and good looks to boot. Wish there were more of him in the world of Chemistry.

Very upset I won't have him for Ochem 2, he was my prof for Gen Chem 1 & 2 as well as Ochem 1. He is such a cool guy outside of class and his passion for his students shows in his lectures. Every lecture you will need is posted on his Youtube channel and he posts study guides for exams. If you know the study guide b4, you will succeed on the test.
