Very interesting. Great Teacher
He is by the far the best professor I've ever had - he's enthusiastic about the material and goes out of his way to help anyone who needs it.
Very smart. He knows what he's talking about and is very reasonable. As long as you show up and pay attention you are good to go. Exams are involved and extensive but are in the take home format.
Great teacher.... always had a great time in his class.
He is incredible! He is the reason I decided to become a history major - he changed my life! He is short..but a hottie...hehe
the best

Great teacher all his tests were in take home essay format. To answer the question involved 6-8 pages but an easy A if you are willing to put a little time into it
Wow he's really interesting. The tests were total essay (as in take home.) He pulled alot of stories about newark into the class. Having grown up in the town it was interesting.
this is guy is awesome
Mangus Khan is my heeeeee-ro!
3 papers all quarter? Two weeks to complete, minimum? He'll make comments and help revise? How much easier can you get?
Yes...
great teacher. he is the only history teacher i have ever liked. his lectures are very interesting!

Great teacher, i actually liked american history for a quater :) he's real funny too, talked alot about sex in history.
great teacher
definitely a cool guy, makes history fun and to the point where it makes sense. good guy to talk with and will help you out if there's anything he can do.
Didn't like his teaching style...
This guy is awesome! I wasn't too sure about him the first day of class, but this guy is great. He makes history interesting and he really gets into what he's teaching. All his tests are take home, which could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it, but he is really helpful. Take a class w/him, you won't be sorry you did!
very funny. but maybe a little too much novel reading.
Funny in a lame way. He has the weirdest extra historical tidbits to add which made his class fun. He's also a super nice guy.
Awesome teacher! If you don't have him, you should take him. He's the best prof you'll ever have. Helpful in many ways and easy too. Always a plus!
Mike teaches students to think like historians. The content was not all dry boring facts. He gives the facts then allows the students to form their own opinions(you don't have to agree with his BUT be able to support yours). He is willing to do whatever it takes to help a student earn an A -but DON'T CHEAT HE WILL CATCH YOU!
Mike is awesome. He can get side tracked very easily, but overall he is a great guy. History club shows that alot too. Take care of the Cat... all 37 lbs of it.
Very scatter brained and not coherent most of the time. Came across as an idiot a lot
Dr. Mangus is the most inspirational professor I have ever had. He is a beautifully sincere man; he changed my life. Beyond being helpful outside of the classroom, in the classroom he is brilliant, fun, and makes you truly understand the time period.
also took Hist 142. THE best teacher I have had at OSU. I actually looked forward to going to his class. Learned alot that will stick with me the rest of my life. Completely recommend him. Just don't keep him after class so that he misses his Simpsons!!
AWESOME teacher. Very interesting and smart. Funny too.
Mangus is a great professor!!! I hated history and he has made it interesting. He gives 3 papers and he will help you if you ask. Funny guy too!!! def. recommend him for history 181 etc.
He rocks
Just like the positive comments, he has three papers and will review them and make comments for you. You do have to read books to get the information for the papers; the books are interesting. The people that rate him bad have either tried to cheat or did not attend class regularly as Dr. Mangus is one professor I would like for all me courses.
Best professor I have had. I am a history major and had some terrible profs but Dr. Mangus made class interesting. He is more than willing to help and read over papers before actually grading.
Awsome taecher!
AWESOME!!! THAT SUMS IT UP IN ONE WORD
Loved this class. I learned a ton about history and he made it very entertaining! Requires a lot of paper writing so be prepared but if you go to class the papers will be a piece of cake.
He's the man!
Great teacher. Very informative interesting class. Only complaint is the mid term and final paper's questions. Difficult to answer 15 different questions and put em together into a paper. Hard to give the paper a good focus.Other than that outstanding class. I looked forward to this class all week!
this teacher is really easy and goofy and fun, and is the best history teacher you will ever have...he knows a bunch of random facts that he tells you about and his tests are easy and fun.
How much fun can you have....in his class it is unlimited! Excellent teacher, loads of laughs, he really enjoys his job - Oh make sure you follow the directions on all assignments to the T. Watch out for his cat army!
He is the best professor you will ever have, he is easy and funny what more could you ask for. Try him i promise you won't be sorry.
I have been at OSU-N and now Otterbein... I have yet to take a professor better than this guy. Interesting, fun, very clear and well organized. I hope he's getting paid the big bucks because he deserves it. I would like to go back to Newark and sit in one of his classes because they are so interesting... haha, no joke
He's great, and completely understanding. He really works with the students to ensure they have a great education
This guy was AWESOME! I hate history, but he actually made me want to go to my 8am class. Attendance is not mandatory, but bonus point options are given to those who attend. Always interesting opinions and super involved in discussion.
Great teacher. I waited until my senior year to take history because I hate it so much but Dr. Mangus made it fun! 5 week summer class was not bad at all! He made me want to learn and he was a great teacher. Highly recommend!!
HE is awesome!!! His lectures are always fun, never boring and I hate history. Your exams are all papers, which sounds bad but he is very willing to proofread them for you and help you improve your paper before you turn it in for a grade.
TAKE THIS CLASS! Mangus is the funniest and coolest teacher ive ever had. His class is so easy, Ive never liked history and actually failed my first time taking, then taking this class i actually learned something and he made everything easy and relatable to understand. He is hilarious! Attendance is not mandatory, but always gives extra credit!
TAKE THIS CLASS! Mangus is the best professor ive ever had. His class is fun, Ive never liked history till taking his class. He made everything easy and relatable to understand. He is hilarious! Attendance is not mandatory, but always gives extra credit when we had low attendence. He pushed back due dates on all the papers. I enjoyed this class.
Awesome, fun, and funny. Take this class!!!
Very interesting guy who gives students a break but still expects good work. 3 papers was only grade, got an A on all three. Highly recommend.
Very good teacher! He is always interesting and funny. My grade was based on three papers and if I did my best work I always got an A. Highly recommended.
TAKE HIS CLASSES!
All we did was write 3 papers and that was the entire grade with "participation" As long as I had all the sources, I got an A
I took this class during May session. Mangus is great, I learned more from this class than any other history class I've ever taken. As far as grades, he completely makes them up. 30% midterm, 20% participation and 50% final - my grade did not reflect the grades I got on his assignments and he doesn't use Carmen. The grading system is not fair.
There are 3 written exams, but they are all take home. There are 3 books you have to read. He's an easy grader. State your opinion and support it and you will receive an A on every paper. He's hilarious when lecturing. He likes to keep his lectures entertaining so you will never be bored i promise. TAKE HIS CLASS. HE'S AWESOME.
I took Mangus for May term and I had a GREAT experience. If you cheat, DO NOT TAKE HIM. He takes plagiarism very seriously. If you are decent at writing and come to every class, you will be okay. He makes lectures as exciting as possible and sometimes gives key words to put on tests for bonus points. I would take him again in a heartbeat!
Amazing professor. I highly recommend getting him for your history class. He has a great sense of humor. He offers to read your mid term and final papers for editing before you turn it in. No tests. Easily one of my favorite professors I have ever had. He made history interesting for me and I am not a huge fan of history. Easy A.
Honestly a pretty good professor. He is definitely liberal and makes no efforts to hide that. Overall though, he's decently fair. Interesting material and he provides it in a funny context. Not bad, I could just do without his personal political opinions.
He was an awesome professor! Just make sure your attending class!
This man made my first semester of college a great time. I'll be taking him next semester.
This man made my first semester of college a great time. I'll be taking him next semester for History 2002.
Amazing!!! He has inspired a newfound love for history. He turns lectures into stories and his midterm/term paper and final exam are all papers. Easy AND interesting class.
By far the best professor I've ever had. Super nice, straightforward, and funny. Be ready to read, show up for class and talk in class during discussions and you'll do fine. No final, just a final paper. Literally the best!
Excellent professor and always makes sure that his lectures are engaging. You can tell he knows his stuff. The tests are an essay format in which you will choose a prompt to form an opinion on while using the assigned novels and lecture notes to support it. It can be any length as long as you get your point across. Ask him for help if you need it.
Dr. Mangus has been my coolest professor so far. He genuinely cares about everyone. His class is structured on reading 3 books and writing 3 papers about said books, along with 6 weeks of lecture with the remaining 8-9 as class discussion. If you email him drafts of your papers, he'll tell you what needs to be done to get a 100% every time.
The best prof in the OSU system. He gives a great lect. He will tell you there is a participation grade but he cant match your name with your face but you should go bc you will need to give info from lect+3 books on 3 papers he has you write. they are straight forward, just answer a question and support with lect and book. Hist2650 you have to read
Dr. Mangus made this history class super fun. Easy A if you show up and participate. Love his rants and views on politics. Only homework you ever get is three papers based on two books you have to read, no tests or quizzes. If you're a republican or conservate, I suggest staying away from this class.
Come to class and write notes to help write your midterm and final. If you go to class every class you do not need to get the history book just the 3 books you need to read for the term paper. He reads rough drafts so he can help you get an A. For the term paper I only read 1 book and got a B- on the paper thats how easy of a grader he is.
Doesnt take attendance but takes class participation so you need to show up. Hes hilarious and really gets to know everyone and their opinions on anything. Would definitely take again.
Best Professor at Ohio State. I had him for both History 2002 and History 2650. Probably some of the best classes I have ever had were taught by him. He is a funny guy and truly cares for all of his students. Classes consist of 3 papers and he is always there to help. I loved every minute of these classes. You're the man Dr. Mangus.
Professor Magus is one of the best professors I had thus far. He taught in a way that was vibrant and engaging. I love history now because of him. He does tend to talk about his political views a lot, but I did not mind. Take him. Easy A.
Professor Mangus is an excellent lecturer, take comprehensive notes during lecture and you will succeed. My only complaint is his constant tangents criticizing any political view that is not his own (die hard liberal who suckles at the teat of the fake news).
The best professor I have had at Ohio State. Never read the books. Lectures are very interesting. He loves to ask for the students' opinions on issues. As a republican, dude is super liberal and lets you know about it but isn't like most college professors who tell you that you are wrong and try to prove you wrong. Just the best hands down.
Mangus was an excellent professor. You're actually going to learn history in his class because his lectures are so in depth and amazing. I enjoyed his class so much that I am now considering a history minor. Your grade is determined by three papers and as long as you are a decent writer who includes a thesis and supporting evidence, you'll be fine.
he is good usually doesn't take attendance but he knows everyone.
Mangus is awesome. History has always been my least favorite subject but that changed this semester. He is funny, intelligent, and very open-minded. No assignments other than 3 papers over 3 small books, but his lectures were interesting and I learned so much. Go to class. Taking him again next semester because he's so great
History 2650- Best professor I've had period. So good that I'm going to contact him soon so when can talk. He's one of the few who knows whats really going on and provides real links between academe and the real world. Hes also open minded. His class was a blast and you'll actually enjoy going, unlike most. A real gem, he cares and is compromising.
As a person, Professor Mangus is fantastic. He is really funny and interesting. I was kind of disappointed with the class though. Our class was modern world history. We only talked about history for around 6 weeks, and then it turned more into a current events class. His constant Trump bashing, while pretty funny at first, gets really annoying.
Dr. Mangus was a very good history teacher. The reason I can't give him a 5.0 is because the class felt more like a debate class than a history class for the majority of the semester. You can get by with no attendance, as long as you're pretty familiar with the required readings. Very accessible during office hours as well.
Mangus is pretty cool, easiest going professor by far! He always answers emails quickly, really cares about your grade & will make sure you can correct everything you can before turning in your papers. I never read the book but always went to lecture and took good notes, because he likes you to include information in your papers! 10/10
Dr, Michael is a good professor, but you are not learning Anything in his class. He doesn't use Carmen at all, he only grades three papers. Also, the entire class he talks about how much he doesn't like republicans. Totally waste of time, he does deserve to be a university professor.
He has 3 books that will be on all of your exams. I skimmed through the first book and got a 104 on my first exam. Very good professor. He's fun and tries his best to make history exciting!
Definitely the best professor I have had in college. He really cares about his students. Your biggest assignment is usually a lengthy research paper, but he is very lenient about it. He is hilarious and loves tangents. A great professor that loves interacting with his students. Take any and all of his classes.
Loved this class. I hate history but this class was great. You only write 3 papers If you show up its super easy. He makes it so interesting and fun to learn There's a reason he has such a great grade on this The papers are easy if you finish them before the due date and send it to him he'll give you a 100 or tell you exactly what to fix. Loved it!
Easy A But the whole class is based on a debate. Like they should call political science class because we are not learning history in this class. Therefore, Michael is a good guy but the class is not worth the money. I dont recommend this class.
By far the best educator I have ever had in my college career. He was meant to be an educator as he had a passion for what he taught and you could truly tell. He encourages all students to participate in discussions which was always a blast. He is the best teacher at Newark hands down.
Dr. Mangus is infamous on the Newark campus for a good reason - he is the best professor in any department. He is thoughtful, respected, and a great professor to have either as a freshman or as a senior. Take him if you ever get the chance. You'll thank yourself for having easy assignments while actually learning real-world material.
AMAZING!! So kind, understanding, and responsive to carmen notifications. There are only 3 essays based on 3 required readings (he'll read over them before hand too, and help you through them! :)). I definitely recommend, I wish I could take more classes with him!
Easiest class you will ever take. At least regarding 20th century history, he has no idea what he is talking about and isn't qualified to teach about it. He doesn't even know how or why WW1 broke out, and he refuses to provide sources for anything he says. If you confront him with questions he will stop showing up to his own office hours.
I have taken two classes from Mangus and both were graded by three papers (and participation) and you have to read three books. Mangus is an awesome professor. I am not a fan of history and he manages to make his lectures interesting. He also cares a great deal about his students and their success. 100% recommend taking a class with him.
If you're at all familiar with American history this will be a boring class as the first half is common knowledge and the second half is debate. The class is graded by only three papers so if you're looking for something easy this is it. If you want something worth your money I'd go with a different class.
Dr Mangus is wonderful. He is very accessible outside of class. He allows & even wants you to send in rough drafts beforehand so you can fix problems before the final grade. Only 3 papers that are based on books you will read. Class isn't mandatory but is worth 20% of the grade. Lectures were boring but I liked the class discussion. Very easy A.
Class is fairly easy and well organized. Grading criteria needs some work I feel. He seems to grade essays purely based on his rubric instead of the actual quality of the essays, but the rubric is easy if you follow directions. Class isn't so much about learning history as it is debating it, but there aren't any other better options really.
This class was one of my favorite classes I have taken here at Newark. This teacher cared and truly wants all his students to do well. There are few assignments, but each assignment is a paper and if you try on the papers, you will get a great grade and easily be able to pass this class. I would recommend him to anyone who needs a history credit.
Notes are super important because the slides are very vague, he gives lot of detailed information though, so it wasn't hard to take good notes. The assignments were very clear, and he reviews drafts which I HIGHLY recommend submitting because he will tell you exactly what he wants you to change to get a 100. Very nice guy and I enjoyed the class.
Dropped his class simply because most of his topics were politic based, and I didnt care to hear about why his ex-wife left him every 5 minutes, And he would refer to himself as "Mangus". Always in third person. Very brain-melting. So if you would like to hear his sap stories- please take the class.
Took his class last semester and I really enjoyed it. Cares that you do well in his class, even offers to read rough drafts for papers. Would definitely take his classes.
Professor Mangus is probably the best professor I've had. This man is so easily loveable, and his assignments aren't as complicated as they seem. The papers within the class are just regurgitating information from lectures and books then providing your interpretation. If you are taking history for a gen ed credit and see his name, be at ease.
Very funny professor, and a good person. The class is structured with zero homework besides 3 large papers spaced fairly. 3 books to read that we use in our final. attendance is not said to be mandatory but there is a grade for participation in discussion, which is helped by showing up. Gives great feedback on papers (utilize this!!!)
Dr Mangus is a great professor and a great person. He really cares for his students and wants to help them get the best grade possible.
May God question this man and the likes of him; the amount of unnecessary work is crazy he unfortunately also happens to be a harsh harsh grader and I have not cried about a class since last autumn semester but he did a wonderful job making me shed tears with his work load. He also refers to himself in third person like what bro????
History 2001 with Mangus is a joke, and you should take it if you want an easy A. If you want to learn history, then don't. He teaches high school-level US history with fun facts and personal political opinions. No textbook(so he can't be corrected in lecture?)and three essays+participation grade. FYI, the online course is supposedly a lot harder.
Professor Mangus is an engaging lecturer who makes history come alive. The class has minimal assignments beyond a few papers, which are manageable with the help of resources like Unstuck AI. Attendance is key, as participation is graded.
VERY LIBERAL TEACHER. A good portion of the grade is "participation", but he never stops rambling about how the radical left is correct and anyone right of center is evil. There's never a moment to participate. The only time to speak would be to disagree with his political views, which is pointless because he is delusional.
Horrible professor
He isn't nice
He rants about his 3 divorces every single class. He lied about being on tenure. He talks about cheating on his wife. He talks about r A LOT more than he should. He is very "I'm right you're wrong". He admitted to some stuff I fear should be criminal?? It's also a weighted class, and if you don't submit one assignment, you fail the whole class.
Continuing from my last review, he also went on a rant about his former students' health issues AND his wife's issues. Might I add, the issue with his wife, he practically told us he was dirty! He also talks about intercourse way too often. He lied and said that if we showed improvement on our assignments, he would change our grades. He didn't.
This dude is weird, not in a good way. Likes to bring up intercourse with students wherever he can during lecture and has a really creepy vibe. His lectures (100% of class time btw) also included info that was dubious to say the least, I often found myself fact checking him on Google after class. Take another easy A, his classes aren't worth it.
