Take notes, and you'll do great in the class. You don't even need to read all the stories to pass. Open notes in Tests!!
His class is fairly easy, there is just alot of reading
He is the best teacher I had. I really enjoyed his class. He is very easy and helpfull. I advice everybody to take him.Easy scoring papers.
nice guy, kinda weird, but nice and a good teacher. Not too hard on you, NOT mlot of work.
Easy. Very lenient, and chill. Like to crack jokes to keep things light once in a while. Gets you through the course with a minimum of hassle and WANT TO ENSURE YOU SUCCEED. Definitely recommended. We all know writing papers sucks so at least take someone that has some fun with it!
He ie the best teacher I ever had. He is very helpful and easy. I recomend him with high qualification. He is the best. If you have the opportunity take him.
I took his class for Enc 1101 and then Enc 1102. He is the greatest ever and wants to make sure that we understand and succeed. He is a nice guy and very lenient. Dont pass up the opportunity to take his class, you'll get an A!
I enjoyed this class very much. Very easy to understand and helpful. He was one of my favorite professors. Grades very fairly and is an overall great guy!
He grades fairly and helps you out whenever you have questions. His exam wasn't that hard either. He is one of the best teachers I have had during college. Plus he likes to interact with the students and he will make you laugh.
He is a good professor. He thinks he's so funny but he makes you laugh. You only have one test which is the final. Notes every class. But hes a good teacher.
He is a very good teacher, you have to take notes, and do not miss class, you will easily pass this class
His an awsome teacher. Very easy to pass his class. He only give on test which is the final, which was very esay. But he does give a lot of essays to write in class and at home. The topics of your essays are up to you. His very laid back. I would take him again...
Excellent professor he is very easy but you do have to write a lot of essay but the essay are about the storys that you read in class and he explains the story in detail so you should be fine. Only two test midterm and the final. You should be ok with the test because he explains everything.
Excellent prof. took both enc classes with him and will take another in lit. Tests are essay format. One of my most memorable teachers for his passion, knowledge and personality.
This is an excellent class!! (Even if you're not into toliterature) As long as you go to every class & take lots of notes you'll pass no problem! He offers his help, and does not make you feel uncomfortable about throwing your ideas out there.
Marzelli is an awsome teacher. I took him for enc I and II, and American lit. I have no complaints. Read and take good notes for an A(engII & AML2010)
Great teacher, really explains stories. Take lots of notes because you can use them on the test. Don't miss class unless you have a friend who can take notes for you.
Great teacher. Very easy class. I liked this guy so much I took him for comp.2 and for Amer. Lit class. Nice easy teacher. Easy class. Class format is very good.
Weird guy with a fake voice and a very weird laugh, if not an English major avoid him,not easy grader on essays or tests, you have to tell him exactly what he thinks about this superweird poems that make no sense, prepare yourself to see the worst movies of your life and write about them. Not an easy A like people say, I got "C". DO NOT TRY IT.
I took his class spring 07. I loved this class and learned alot. I would take him again. He alway told you what you would need to know for the exam and there was no suprises.
HE IS OK BORING CLASS BUT ALSO EASY ONLY HAVE ONE TEST WHICH IF FINAL AND TILLS YOU WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR IN THE FINAL CLASS ITS SELF HAS ALOT OF LETETURE READING AND EASSY
Mr.Marzelli is very nice & very informative!!! The class is interesting. You just read short stories, poems and 2 plays. You do have to do 1 oral presentation, but it's easy! You get to use your notes and book on the midterm & final. Very nice teacher. Very smart!! Defenitely take his class!
he has a funny voice but he's a good teacher i took him for english 1 and i'm taking him again for eng 2 and american literature. you still have to do work but its not hard.the essays he makes you write are no longer then 700 words. we do alot of classwork and no homework unless you didnt finish something in class. pick him he is very good!
Wonderful professor. He tries very hard to make the assigned short stories and poems interesting. I can't see how someone can fail this class.
Awesome preofessor!! Extremely intelligent and captivating class. I had him for two classes this semester and loved both classes. get your hands ready to write because his tests are all essay format.!!
Very good professor! He is really smart. I HATE English classes, and I was actually interested and looking foward to the classes. His Tests are not hard, just make sure you make notes throughout the class because everything on the test he covered in class, no mistery questions. Very good!
Terrible! I did not learn anything. I thought this was a wrighting class. ?? All he did was teach us literature. A waste of time.
GREAT GREAT! you can use book AND notes for every test, which there are only 2 (mid/final) we had to write two papers and one oral presentation. he even allow u to turn in papers late. very fair grader. I got an A
Energetic. Nice. Very helpful. Funny. Let's you use your book/notes. Nice enough to turn in my paper late. Worth taking the class.
Great teacher, pay attention and write notes and you'll have no problem. Only two test and and two to three writing assignments which are also very easy. Highly recommend.
He is a very good professor whose teaching style grows on you. Be sure to pay attention and take notes.
Great professor. I really learned a lot. Class discussions were stimulating. Movies - not so much, but helpful for tests. Take good notes in class. Tests are essay format, but he lets you use your book and notes. He is a tough grader on the essay, but he corrects it and lets you rewrite it.
HIGHLY RECOM. This is my 2nd class with this professor and he is great. Show up, take notes, complete assignments and you will be good to go. Easy A - open book mid term and final. I plan on taking him for LIT also.
AWESOME TEACHER!! Like everyone's said, he lets you use your book & notes on exam. I got 100% on my mid-term exam b/c of my notes! Just pay attention, take good notes, and you will do good! Main essay can be a bit tricky, but he's very helpful in trying to help you figure it out! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!!
I was in his class for Fall term 2011, He is a an ok professor. The fact that you only have four things to turn in and then the Final Exam with those five things you better do AMAZING ON, but you wouldn't know that till the end of the semester cuz thats when you get everything back. Which doesn't make any sense. No extra credit either.
This class was not easy. The professor did not grade any of the assignments until the last day of class. His comments on the essays were not helpful. since he didn't give us back the papers till the last day, then we couldn't fix what we did wrong on previous papers. I would not recommend this professor.
He is a pretty good professor. It is true that he does not grade papers on time and he seems a little disorganized but he lets you use your notes which I feel makes writingan essay all the more easier. If you aren't very good in English it is probably better to take a teacher who will go over things in better detail. I plan on taking him for Lit.
Its not an EASY A unless your a pro at writing essays, but overall it's an easy class, very little work and a lot of reading. Mr.Marzelli is super nice! Can be a bit funny also, depending on your class too.. Only 1 4p essay and 1 2p essay, read the stories & watch the movies, make sure to take notes on what he says!! Test & Midterm open book¬es.
Very great professor!!! Definitely recommend him!! He is very easy. Take lots of notes of what he says. Just one 4 page paper, an easy 2 pg. paper and open book tests. Super easy!!
Prof. Marzelli's class is awesome! My second class with him and its not one of those classes you stress hard about. He's simple and always tries to help you understand what he is teaching. The movies are a great way to help you understand. I HIGHLY recommend him!!! Would take another class with him if he taught other subjects!
I LOVEEE THIS MAN. HE IS SO HELPFUL, TOTALLY WORTH TAKING, HE IS ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR HELP, GO TO HIS OFFICE, TELL HIM WHAT YOU HAVE UNDERSTOOD AND HE WILL GUIDE YOU ALONG, TAKE NOTES SO YOU COULD USE THEM ON THE TESTS, VIDEOS ALSO HELP :)))))
This man is a really good teacher. I took him for both of my literature classes. ENC is not an easy class but HE explains and clarify everything really well. So if you don't past with an A, You are doing something wrong or not doing your work. he also give you what to study for the tests. I am definitely recommending him.
This professor is very easy going, I took his hybrid class and the online assignments were super easy. He is a very nice person and is always there to help. I connect with him more than any of my other professors.
A few essays are spread out, max 1,000 words. Some are in class, most at home. Participate, and if your writing improves you're good. The first essay isn't worth much while the last is worth more. Had the hybrid class, super easy and laid back. He will teach you how to write properly and logically, but isn't hard or demanding. Laughed every day.
Overall an amazing teacher. Most assignments are done in class. Keep up with the online part of class though.
He is a ok guy BUT if you like a professor that motivates you to do work he is not the guy .. He is a very tough grader he will cut you no slack and he won't reward u for trying if the answer is wrong it's wrong even tho the exams are essay style. u can pass if u read everything over an over and study .but if you slip or slack he will have no mercy
He is a very nice professor. His class is more like a literature class than writing. We read a lot of poems and short stories. We wrote two essays: one 2-page and one 9-page. His grading is not that harsh, he gives great feedback. I definitely recommend him.
Great professor! I love English and Lit, so this class was a breeze. My husband is not good at English and Lit and he still passed with a "B". He is very helpful and does not bombard you with work. The mid term was open book & notes. We had to write a few papers but he grades fairly, and gives you plenty of time to do them. Definitely recommend.
Mr. Marzelli is great. I loved him as a professor. In both ENC1101 and ENC1102 there are not that many tests and only a couple papers to write. He prepares you well for both the midterm and final exam just make sure you take good notes. He is happy to help if you ask and is pretty funny as well. Awesome professor over all.
You have to read a lot of poems and short stories and the midterm test is on the stories and the final exam is on the poems. He shows movies based on the story or poem, and take lots of notes because he lets you use your notes and the book on the midterm and final. Only one 4p essay and 2p essay. More like a literature class than writing though.
Great professor! Class only consisted of an open note midterm, final, and a few easy papers. Most of the class you spend listening to others present their poem from the book, and not doing actual work. You can tell that Prof. Marzelli enjoys this subject, and is willing to help you with anything. Highly recommend!
Does not care to let you know what grade you have. You could be failing and he would not let you know. Tough grader. And he thinks your own writing is not yours . Would not recommend him or take him ever again.
He is the best English professor I've ever had. Yes, he isn't as hard of a grader as I feel some people make him out too be. The one research paper we had he gave us our drafts back and marked EVERYTHING that needed to be fixed before the final paper. Just read the stories and type notes for the mid termfinal and you'll pass no problem.
Basically if you go to class and pay attention you will have no problem with passing. This class is pretty easy and the professor doesnt ask much from you.
Professor Marzelli was great. He gave reasonable assignments and really got the class involved. I respect him a lot and I would totally take a literature class taught by him. He really knows his stuff and even though he has definitely read all the material a million times, hes still passionate
He makes class very interesting, by giving assignments you want to do. His lectures are clear and easy to understand. He does not assign many papers and when he does they aren't long at all.
He's amazing! lots of reading, but he goes over everything in class so its clear. Plus he lets you use notes so if you don't take good notes then if you don't pass its your fault. Class is long and he uses all the time.
Great professor. Made me enjoy coming to class everyday and gives great feedback/lectures. Take him if he has ENC or American Literature.
I honestly loved him! he was very straight forward. Made class interesting. Hell show videos that go wih the lecture which helps you understand the topic. Very easy if you pay attention and get your work done!
Professor Marzelli is great! He grades hard on your essays but gives excellent feedback. He listens to you & is very helpful. He takes attendance everyday. Turn everything in on time, pay attention and take notes you'll be fine! (he accepts late work) His midterm is a essay you do at home and the final he gives a study guide on what WILL be on it.
this is all fake hes not even good. he has a fake laugh and can even tell your grades. ifyou want your Gpa to dropdown take this guy. expect you to know every thing about som nnsense poem he can even explain them himself. make you confuse and end up tell you that your writhing is not yours. give you F bc he doesn't take time toread them.
stay away from this guy he might think he funny with he is fake laugh hell to the no. not recommended.
Good teacher was very nice, funny, and knowledgeable. Would take him again. Be prepared to read and study for test and take notes he usually give out freebies before the test.
Super easygoing professor. Some students hardly showed up to class except when things were due and they might complain about him. If you do what is asked of you, which isn't very much, then you'll do great.
Awesome guy I highly recommend him. His class isn't dull or boring he makes class interesting. I've had him for two classes he's great.
Easy. If you show up, do all the papers, and read the stories for the tests you won't have an issue getting an A. He allows you to use notes for the tests as well, so make sure when you read to take notes. He shows some movies based on the stories, they are a bit old but it makes the class a bit more interesting besides just reading.
By far the most boring professor Ive ever had, and I love literature. He's a very dull guy and did not manage to get anyone engaged or excited about the literature throughout the semester. Sitting in this class for an hour felt like three. DO NOT TAKE if you have ADHD or get bored easily. Class isn't hard, just mind bogglingly boring.
Okay, so I took his class having a strong English background and all I can say is I love this guy. He's absolutely hilarious and I enjoy coming to his class to his everyday. There are a total of about 4 or 5 papers that are really easy and short. Also, the class was scheduled two days a week from 12:30-2:10 and we were out everyday by 1:30. Take!!!
HE SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE RAY ROMANO. He's nice but has a very certain view in what stories mean, even if it's your opinion, if it's not l Ike his, he sees it as wrong. There's a lot of reading and only two papers and two tests. So not a lot of wiggle room to improve your grade.
His Honors class had to do 4 more pages on the midterm than the nornal classes, not bad. Go to every class because the 2 tests (midterm and final) are based on what he talked about in class and about the stories/poems/plays. There will be one short presentation (another for ext. Cr) a 8pg essay (honors) and a final test.
He is only flexible for certain students.
You have to read a lot but his class is easy he is a nice person and an excellent teacher
He was a very good professor. He does work with you and helps you achieve a passing grade. Overall, His lectures were awesome, and he helps you understand literature a lot better. Overall he was an amazing professor and would recommend him to anyone in need of LIT1000
t the professor did not give enough information for students (or at least me) to know what he expected from us. He never returned any tests, just emailed a single letter. Also didnt communicate what he was looking for from the tests. Be sure to ask about everything.
I took his honors class and all the key is to write down EVERYTHING he says. His tests are open notes and based on the characters from the stories and sometimes about how they are similar or diff. from eachother. An inclass essay, 2 pg midterm 2 class presentation (1 is opt. & extr. Crd) 8 pg essay (normal class is 4pg) and a final.
I have taken Professor Marzelli for all of my english classes. Very kind. His lectures do get boring but if you take notes to what he is saying (which you can use the notes on the midterm and final) you will pass. He gives good feedback on papers and allows time for you to correct your paper. I would absolutely take him again.
Professor Marzelli is the best teacher out there. He gives good feedback and the tests are open notes! TAKE NOTES AND LISTEN! Do that and you will pass. I would DEFINITELY take him again.
Easy! Took his AML course as well. Also EASY. Take notes and participate. Recommended for mature students only. I noticed the only people that complained were the younger crowd who was upset about writing a paragraph in an ENGLISH class.
Before I chose this professor I came on here to read other student's comments. One thing that most students said was to write down everything he says. Now that I've successfully taken the class, I'm telling you, WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING HE SAYS! You'll thank me later. Besides that, make sure to read the stories or atleast get the gist of it. Loved him
One of the best professors I have ever had! I am HORRIBLE at English and writing but I managed to get A's like most people say take notes read and you'll get an A super nice guy.
You HAVE TO write down EVERYTHING HE says. Your basically teaching yourself and peers the material. I got a F on the first test (Midterm) because I took notes on what the students were saying (his advice). He gives extra credit, just ask. Class is EXTREMELY boring and time consuming. I honestly wouldnt take him again.
The only reason why i would not take him again is because he DOES NOT use blackboard so you don't know what your grade is until the end of the semester when he tells you. Other than that there is a total of 4 papers to write he is kind of a tough grader so i advice you to take your paper to the writing lab he gives extra credit for it.
He is a really nice person. When writing your essays, make sure you double check your grammar. It's not an easy A, but if you put in the effort you should be fine. His test are open book/notes, so make sure you take down notes when someone is presenting.
Doesnt give have a clear grading criteria or give out enough information. Be sure ask about everything. His test are open book/notes so make sure you write everything down what he says and when someone presents. He is a tough grader make sure you triple check grammar on essays. The class is not easy if you dont put effort toward the class.
Professor Marzelli is overall, a good professor. Unlike most of my English classes and professors, he knows his stuff and I learned soo much. He is a tough grader when it comes to essays, however if you pay attention and put in some effort, you will learn from your mistakes fast and end up doing great.
I had this professor for LIT1000 last semester and he is a very comical and genuine person, although he grades tough and most of the times you will find yourself lost or confused on what to study or even do for the papers. He does give you extra credit, just ask.
Supper nice professor ! He is very funny and engages a lot with the class ! You do need to read a little but he makes the lectures so much fun ! Recommend him 100 %!!
Take notes on all the presentations and you will pass. Do the few papers correct and you will be fine. Open note midterm and final. Professor Marzelli gives feedback and definitely knows what he is talking about. I would take him again, no doubt!
This was an easy class. There are 2 essays and the midterm and final are open note. Take notes on EVERYTHING he says about the stories and poems you talk about in class because that is what you'll need for the exams. He gives good feedback on the essays and lets you correct them for a better grade!
This professor is a very tough grader , his syllabus is not clear what so ever . You do have to pay attention to what he is saying and take notes but its very difficult to even understand what he is saying because hes so unclear with the lecture
Professor Marzelli isn't your ordinary ENC teacher. He's a real tough grader, so be prepare to read, and i mean a lot. He has a very dry sense of humor, & he really has trouble hearing so be prepared to SPEAK UP when your taking his class. Mid-Terms/Final are fill-ins so be prepared to watch LONG, CONFUSING & BORING films in his class. Good luck!!
I never took a worst Professor in my life . Please dont take this class wasted 3 months of his class telling me Im passing to give me a D in the end of the year . He dont put in grades and he treats you like
I took him for Honors class. He is a nice guy, loves to talk and has an intelligent sense of humor ( most of the time related to literary work) Knowledgeable man. Tests are about the tons of reading and is NOT multiple choice, you have to argument, compare, explain etc. about what you read. Tough essay grader. If you really read u will pass.
If you choose to take this professor PLEASE WRITE EVERYTHING HE SAYS. He isn't the best professor he gives no feed back just straight F's. He also doesn't tell you any percentages juts B- or C's. He doesn't warn you about your grade he just puts whatever in and tells you that you are passing just to give you a D. No extra credit at all. DONT TAKE
Professor was great and very helpful!
GET READY TO WRITE AND READ . YOU WORK FOR YOUR GRADE.
Pros: Open book & note tests, explains material thoroughly. Lively discussions w/ supplemental materials; movies, clips, etc. Not a lot of assignment. Cons: Unavailable outside of class, forever to grade paper, no makeups/revisions allowed. Not a lot of assignments. WRITE DOWN WHATEVER HE WRITES DOWN. That is EXACTLY what will be on the tests.
I wish I can withdrawl from this class. I hate it . I like better in ENC way better . He is careless omg . Theres no way to bring your grade up . No homework nothing . Only reading the whole semester. Sooooo boring . Reading , reading then test . I barely understood his lecture its a waste of money. Honest to God
The class was easy just write down what he says . But he doesnt communicate with the students outside of class I emailed him numerous of times and he never reply to any of the emails. He never update your grades so that you can see them. I completed the semester and didnt even know what my grade was in the class.
Easiest English class I've ever taken. He's nice, funny, and requires the bare minimum. Not a harsh grader at all, and make sure to write down EVERYTHING he says because it is word for word the exam. The only problem is that he's not so good with communication and Blackboard.
I recommend this professor. His class is fairly easy just read the stories in the book which is key for the midterm, final & 2 papers ( 1 short & 1 long). Exams are written not multiple choice but are only a few questions & timed. My only problem was that for the papers we write he doesn't give an outline/ examples that could help.
I am not the best at English. He is very unorganized, barely any structure at all. He barely uploads zoom recordings. Does not explain much when he grades essays and takes forever to upload grades until the last day. Write down everything because final is written response. Some essays will be written during class time. Does not responds to emails.
Boring professor dont make English seem fun. All we did is complete worksheets and write eassys which include a research paper. His attitude is terrible. The finals is written and I suggest you write everything down on the board and make a quizlet to help remember the final. Find a another English professor if you have a chance.
Lots of writing in this class but I really don't think he's a tough grader. He is slightly sarcastic and tends to have a monotone voice making lectures boring but as long as you participate he's okay. From time to time he will assign a reading from the book for homework but other than that super easy class
Professor Marzelli was just fine. Few assignments but worth a lot for your grade, so don't delay. Half of the semester are student lead power-points over short poems or stories he assigned the first day of class. Accepted late work, seemed to grade more on grammar that information. BOTH EXAMS ARE OPEN NOTES so WRITE ANYTHING YOU THINK YOU WANT!!
Professor Marzelli is great, class mostly involves reading/or movie the literature for that day, a small lecture, and then notes. You have to make sure you pay attention and attend class. His exams may be a little difficult but they are mostly analyses of the stories read. He can be a tough grader if you have a hard time understating the stories.
He has such a love of literature it rubs off on you. Yes you have to read, but everything is very easy his notes are specific so if you attend class and take notes you can just skim certain parts of the readings and do well. He shows movies some classes so its chill, but I really enjoyed him and his teaching style. You can tell he loves his job.
Great, very funny. Classes are primarily lectures, midterm & final involve what was reviewed in class. Great at explaining the stories reviewed.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Professor not approachable, rude and curt in his response to students. He never posted grades the whole semester, but often told students not to worry about the grades on canvas. Posted grades and disappeared with no option for discussion. He display passion for subject but no compassion for students. RUN!
You have to make sure to show up to class and participate. You have to be prepared to present a poem/story that he assigns you. The tests are written responses, timed but not on the lockdown browser. He is harsh with comments but cares about what he teaches. If you participate and understand his humor you should be ok. Classes last full time.
EASY A. You just have to actually try. I used the SLC (student learning center) and aced every paper. He's not a tough grader AT ALL. I feel like he could have been a much tougher professor but chooses to meet students in the middle. He's passionate about his subject. His humor is dry. He's great at teaching most of all.
He is a great professor. I could've gotten a better grade only if I had attended all classes. However, overall he was very good at teaching, wasn't as tough with grading, and didn't give much homework either.
This class is pretty easy and enjoyable. He is not the most tech savy but does not require cameras to be on, even during tests. Super sweet and understanding guy, very helpful and encouraging if you are willing to engage with him. Not a tough grader and not very long or difficult assignments. Rarely ever kept us on for the full class time.
Easy class, great professor. We are only graded by a few things: midterm, final, 2 page paper & a 4 page research paper which are on stories we read during the semester. Show up for the zoom lectures and write some of the notes he says about the stories and u will pass. The notes will help u on the midterm & final which are like 10 questions each.
He was very direct and he also used the technology that was available very well. I would recommend always checking your school emails and also looking at the links that he attaches.
Professor Marzelli was great! I had taken this for Summer A. a lot of reading, you teach one story to the class for a grade, then write about it. 2 papers were research papers and was short and easy. Midterm and Final was open book and open notes! Easy class, pay attention and take lots of notes! He is a great teacher! I would take this again!
JUST TAKE HIM BEST PROFESSOR AND EASY CLASS IN PERSON 10/10
Simple class with a nice, funny professor. Lectures can be dry, but as long as you participate and use resources like the SLC, Unstuck ai, and take good notes, it's an easy A. Not the most organized, but a fair grader.
Michael Marzelli is one of the best professors at PBSC. I have taken ENC1101/1102 with him and have nothing but positive feedback. I have learned so much with him throughout the semesters. As long as you do the reading & work, his class is an easy A/B!!
If you don't like hand written work don't take his class but he knows his stuff
I enjoyed his class. It was a bit heavier on literature than expected, given that it was an English Comp class, but I didn't mind. Tests are hand written in class. I would've appreciated more varying perspectives of authors when it came to the literature, but overall it was a pretty chill class. Take notes, do the reading, & you'll be fine.
I took his live online class. There isn't really any homework. On the first day he assigned each individual a piece of literature that they have to analyze and present to the class. So basically we're teaching each other. Every now and then he'll chime in with his notes. The exams are open note. My only issue with him is he doesn't give feedback.
