Professor Matabanadzo does not hate americans, so you can ignore the stupid comment made above. If you want to learn what the american society doesn't teach in schools, this class is a must. He is a really good teacher.

I agree. Professor M. is a good teacher. If you hate americans and think they are terrorists. Also, if you see everything his way. He only bothers to learn who you are if you go on one of his trips. Do NOT take his class.
Makes students aware of a wide range of different aspects and different views never discussed before in regular history classes. Has a great undestanding of African American History.
The man does show a different side of history and it is right, but he also says that he rejects America and that Christianity is against blacks. His accent is hard to understand and he ignores me even though I try to answer his questions.

At first I was scared because he was hard to understand and he isn't very clear on when assignments are due. But all the tests were open book and it turned out to be a really easy class.. I got a B and I really didn't have to do too much...Overall not bad
Very prejudice v. white students- his dislike was obvious. Also course was supposed to be about western civ and his syllabus was ONLY about how whites mistreated blacks. I regret that but come on, move on! Impossible accent.
this is supposed to be 20th century world, not the history of slavery. the man justified 9/11 and pointed out how wrong the war on iraq is, contradicting himself. if u hate white americans who like george bush, u have alot in common. awful class

****, mean, doesn't teach just yells at you for not knowing the correct answer. Doesn't follow 40 page syllabus at all. Can't understand him. Whole class is about slavery and how black people are still slaves. Terrible, just terrible class.

He's really hard to understand because of his accent, he has a pretty biased opinion, his tests are all essays and they are pretty hard. If you take his class, definitely go on the trips because they help your grade out a lot.

I THINK MATAMBANDADZO IS ONE OF THE EASIEST TEACHERS AT SLIPPERY ROCK. HE IS VERY EDUCATED. THE CLASS MIGHT SEEM OVERWHELMING IN THE BEGINNING BUT JUST STICK IT OUT AND GO TO HIS OFFICE AND ASK HIM TO CLARIFY SOMETHING THAT YOU ARE NOT SO SURE OF.
Professor Matambanadzo is a very educated person. After taking his class, I have learnt many untold truth about what is going on in the world. For those that say he is anti-american, he is not, he just tells the crude and cruel truth and that's it.
If you're stuck in his class, yeah I know he sucks, and he hates you if you're american. But I promise you no matter how bad you've done on his tests and papers, he will give you a C, I promise.

This class might seem bad with the pop quizzes and papers, but show up and do the work. No matter how you do on the actual material doesn't matter he'll give you a B.
Being from Zimbabwe,Mr.Matabandzo knows his stuff but cannot project an enthusisam for learning the history, culture, etc. of his courses. I know, I had visited many nations of Africa when I was in the Navy. Personally, Mr. Matabanadzo is friendly.
He presents very interesting facts and arguments. He likes to be challeneged. Course is enjoyable, unless you are too sensitive and dont like hearing all sides of an argument.
This professor is absolutely horrible. He makes things up to proof his point. He doesn't teach 20th century information, he teaches 21st century topics. He absolutly hates Bush. He teaches his opinion not all sides of the topic. He believes America is evil. Avoid him at all costs.
There is more reading than you will ever be able to catch up with in your lifetime, provided you actually do read everything he tells you to. Hard to find during office hours. Difficult to pass, but very interesting material. If you are up for a BIG challenge, take the class.

WORST TEACHER EVER
EXTREMELY anti-american. If ure conservative, DO NOT take him. He teaches nothing but opinion, and will grade you tougher if you disagree,but u can do ok if you argue well. Plus, you simply CANNOT understand a word he says. Texts are less analysis, and more propagana not worthy of academic mention.
I believe that students are being too hard on Professor Matamabanadzo. He may come off as Anti-American, but he wants his students to observe a darker history. You don't have to be anti-bush to get by in his class.
He seemed very hard but stay with the class. If you have a problem talk to him he will help you. Even though it seems like you will never be able to pass his class dont worry. He does give you a different way to look at things.

Just because he criticizes Christians doesnt mean he criticized Jesus. Wants people to think outside of the box, to debate him, to consider other points of view. Only the weak minded think he is really tough or actually an anti American.

I took him twice just to be challenged in my views. I'm white, Republican, American, and female and still got 2 A's so all this B.S. about him being ****/****/anti-american is just coming from those too lazy to do the work. He says controversial stuff only to get you angry enough to research what he's talking about.

Matambanadzo is awesome, if you get to know him and listen to him in class, he's good. He can really teach you something if you open up and listen. He's a little hard and somewhat opinionated but he will prepare you to listen up on the issues of this world. The ****es who hate him act that way because they are afraid.
The best professor i've ever had. He knows so much about what he's talking about but he teaches it in a way that really makes you think outside the box. He likes a student who wants to debate with him. If you are afraid to have your faith tested, or don't want to hear about how Bush is not right for this country, or so on, don't take him.

very good political teacher, you can be white and get above a c. i had him for 3 classes, and didnt get below a b. attendence is the key, and tests are take home.
at first i hated him. i was going to drop the class with rest of my class. we started with 50some and ended up with about 10 students. he is hard to understand. but gives lots of bonus and you will get a b in the class as long as you GO TO CLASS! its your own fault if you dont. and about the previous posts.. IM WHITE & I GOT AN A!!!
People who did not know how to write essays complained a lot. Learn how to write! Also, Matab deliberatly says things to stir up a debate, it says this on the syllabus. I guess the people who did not do well could not read either. I did well and I am white!

I have to respond to the post two down from this one. I took this man back in '03 and I see he has not changed. It's not just his essays. He is a bad professor. As for the essays, you shouldn't have to learn to write them. It's a history class, not a writing class.
It is sad to see that there are student that are so closed minded and ignorant at the college level.... Matam is a wonderful professor from whom we might learn alot... Just because his ideas differ from yours does not make him an anti-american/anti-white etc... If you are smart and loves challenges... take his classes...

Hates all white people and he WILL fail you if you don't agree with what he says. Accent cannot be deciphered, and I guess they didn't have toothbrushes back in Zimbabwe.

Matamb is the single greatest proff on SRU campus. All you have to do is go to class. He simply wants you to think outside the box, and if his students are able to do so, or at least attempt to do so, his class is very interesting.

Most intersting man. He's been through a lot, and I would recommend taking him, especially because he isn't your usual professor. He's had a hard life, knows how America is, and tells you about it. Great man! If you want to learn, take him.
Great guy, hard to understand at first but you adapt to it. Very out spoken, he likes to give his opinion but doesn't seem to punish you for your own. Go to class and your getting at least a B, he likes to know that you are there and trying to pay attention. Most of the writing essays are take home, which he doesn't tell you until test day : )
I must say that never have I had a more disappointing class. He strayed off the course description (20th Century World) and focused solely on the plight and his views of exploitation of African nations. That was not what the class was to be about and he didn't even touch on any major wars - which was what he was supposed to. Do not take him.

Matamb is not as bad as people say. Yes, he is hard and expects a lot from his students. If you go to class and actually try to will do fine. He is very opinionates and is not afraid to challenge students. People who fail his class are lazy and don't deserve to be in college. And yes, I am white and didn't fail.
20th Century WorldHe was a great professor...I got an A...He lets you use books on the tests and most are take home....I am white and a P.E. major so anyone that goes to class and puts the work in will do fine...Talk to him, he is a pretty cool guy
I like this professor a lot. He's a smart guy who really challenges you to think outside the box. Don't get so offended, if anything he's trolling his classes to get a reaction and stimulate thought and discussion.
Matamb is the bomb but he is very hard to understand at times. Once you get used to his accent he really is a funny guy who wants his students to think. You really need to pay attention so you can get an A.

Don't let all the talk fool you, Matamb's not going to give you lower than a B if you show up to class and participate occasionally. Only bad thing is all his tests are essay and you actually have to read the books but no one in my class got lower than a B except a couple of ****s in the back.
Hard to understand. Gave impossible assignments with unclear purposes. Would assign reading material that barely made sense. Everything in class revolves around how black people are oppressed. America hater who couldn't survive anywhere but on a college campus. Found out he was letting black students work as groups on an "individual" project.
i didnt mind this class at all until i received my final grade. he gave me a c despite the fact i came to every class, participated,and never received lower than a b on a test AND went on his extra credit trips. he wasnt a bad guy, until he screw me over
Had this professor for 20th Century World History. I've been on dean's list every semester this far & I got B's on every test before the final. Failed me on the final, got an I in the class. A whole semester later he still hasnt contacted me back about getting grade changed & wont give a reason as to why gave me an incomplete. Avoid him if you can.
Class is a little overwhelming at times. He does know what he is talking about.At times it is kinda hard to understand him but as the semester goes on it get easier. Test are all essays, but I believe everyone will pass as long as you go to class and participate. He is a little controversal but its interesting.

this teacher did have hard tests and quizes but as long as you brought notes into the class that answer the question then you should be fine...although his class is challenging..you should volenteer alot and do so with the little events he wants you to go to..youll get a better grade and if you drive...ahha...you get the idea
I had TAMBZ for 3 straight semesters cuz i loved him so much. He is the easiest professor. Assigns A LOT of work, but you literally don't have to do ANY of it. I just showed up and took the tests and got 2 B's and one A from him. As long as you talk in class, you don't have to do any other work and you will get a B.
Close to unintelligible at times. Preaches his political beliefs as though they are fact. Took him for 20th century world and he spent most of the time talking about slavery, something that didn't happen in the 20th century. Frequently gets off topic. Tests are sometimes on things that he didn't teach and were not in the readings. AVOID HIM!!!
I really don't know how to feel about this guy yet.I love learning about WWI and WWII.However, this is not what you learn.You learn about slavery, capitalism, terrorism, slavery, U.S. as a terrorist state, slavery, slavery,and more slavery. Very disappointed with what he teaches, but can still be interesting at times. Would not recommend.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! Professor is horrible and difficult to understand. You have to buy the books because you do use them, but only a little bit. For the tests you read a ton of articles and then write a bunch of essays the professor wants to be extremely elaborate. He doesn't grade fairly. Most of the time there is no explanation for the grade
It's pointless to go to his class (it's always the same) but unfortunately he takes attendance. He constantly jumps around (one day we are talking about modern Israel, another day about the American Reconstruction period, another day Ancient Rome, etc). The only common theme is slavery and that's all that is discussed. Try to avoid him if you can.
Show up, do some reading/writing, and you get a good grade. He has an accent, but he is not difficult to understand if you listen. He is opinionated. Even if you disagree w/ him YOU WILL LEARN. THE TESTS ARE ALSO ALMOST ALL OPEN NOTES/BOOK! I got an A, & the class was honestly not that difficult. Your final grade will be better than you think.
Heavy accent, blatantly disregards opinions, repeats material, jumps around in time even within same class, grading criteria are non-existent (marked off points and put a check mark next to it), all material points back to racism and slavery. However, if you just do what you're supposed to its an easy A, though I still don't recommend him.
Terrible professor. You can't understand anything he says. This class is suppose to be 20th century world history. The first two months of class were pre-20th century material! Not only that, but everything is related back to racism and slavery. He hates the United States, and is a huge conspiracy theorist. Tests are essay format and impossible!
20th Century World; I definitely recommend taking a different professor. This class was supposed to be about 20th century world history and we talked about stuff that happened the previous week or years before the 20th century. You never know what grade you will get either. It's completely a waste of time.

Very hard to understand, but as the semester progresses it gets easier. I took a class from him my freshman year and loved it, but this class my senior year is terrible. He hates white people and America, and preaches his own opinions as if they are fact. Also he lectures the same thing EVERY DAY.
He opened my mind to other perspectives.
