Maxwell lectures off the top of his head, which is pretty amazing. His lectures are at times a little confusing, but he explains and sometimes over explains. As long as you take good notes and do your homework, the class is easy.
Maxwell gets very excited about statistics. He kind of jumps around when he gets to the important parts- very helpful because it helps you stay focused. He is more interested that you understand statistics than in having you do tons of busywork. If you don't understand something, he will take the time to help you out. Great professor.
although he's good at math, he doesn't seem able to explain the subject very well to non-math majors even though he's teaching a g.e. class. he's available for outside help but doesn't offer anything more than what you get in his class. basically, if you're not a math person, i'd stay away.
WHAT A NIGHTMARE. PLEASE REVIEW ALL COMMENTS LEFT BY OTHERS CAREFULLY. THIS CLASS IS NOT GEARED FOR THOSE WHO HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME WITH MATH. I AM TRULLY STRUGGLING IN THE CLASS. MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET TUTORING THE SECOND TO THIRD WEEK OF CLASS IF YOU NOT DOING SO WELL ON THE FIRST FEW QUIZES. GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE TAKING THE COURSE.
Boring and very confusing......if math is not your subject, I would not take
what everyone else is saying is complete bull. maxwell knows exactly what he's talking about, just take notes and u should do fine. very clear with everything.assigns hw, but never is collected, and the excel project is an easy A.
He knows his subject very well, he just doesn't teach it well to people who aren't good with numbers. He needs to take it slower and spend just a little more time on the topics, as this is a GE course and he is bound to have lots of people that don't understand math very well.
his quizes are somewhat easy but when it comes to the midterm and final they get really hard! he had garbage office hours and hes not good at emailing back. if you dislike math he makes you hate it more.
I don't like Math, so the topic was a 'bit confusing. STUDY the midterm review sheet with practice problems. Quizes are every weeek and some are confusing. His lectures are confusing, because the material is confusing. I learned most of the material by myself with the book and the Study Guide Solutions, which came with the book (new/not used). =)
ok u can't say he's the worst teacher ever but it's getting there. Most of the stuff he say is like reading out of the stats book.He makes math so boring,u just can't keep your eyes open. seriously. I thought he was suppose to be a good teacher after reading some of the reviews from before, well I THOUGHT WRONG!
The professor goes WAY too fast when presenting material. If you hate math, then you will surely hate this class. The material and his teaching methods were way too boring for me and I nearly fell asleep everytime I was there! And I never sleep during class!
Ok, I had no problem in his class. If you had a question, he would always answer it. Midterm and final were hard, but he did curve somewhat, plus he also drops your lowest quiz total. This is a class that if you dont go to, you will get a bad grade, so go to class!
He is so boring!!! if you like to sleep then you should take this class! if you like math to be boring and confusing then you should also take this class! if you hate math already then he will make you HATE it even more! don't take him!!!
maxwell is a bit strange. i sat in on my friends stat class and that was WAY more confusing than my class. he is a somewhat easy grader. if you correct him he is good about it. but he is still confusing. i may get an A but i learned nothing. his class is definitely a class thats easy to fall a sleep in. but dont or u'll miss a lot of material.
If you have already taken a Stats class, this class is a piece of cake. If not, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Having already taken one I was able to follow along and do well but I felt terrible for first timers. He can be really confusing at times and get ahead of himself. Be sure to ask questions and do the homework. Quizzes are super easy if you do.
he's an okay teacher. he does get confusing sometimes. i wouldnt' suggest you take this class unless you can keep up and not fall asleep in class.
Blonde Patrick Dempsey look-a-like. If you don't go to class, you will fail. Genuinely nice person but mostly wrote gibberish up on the board.
the previous comments are accurate. he is a decent teacher, and he is a fair grader with reasonable quizzes, homework and tests. not too much work at all. he writes wayyyy to many notes on the board, he doesn't even explain them. he is not a bad teacher but yea like mentioned before it is a very boring course.
waay, waay too many notes. I think I used an entire spiral notebook for just this class. The quizzes and tests are pretty easy if you come to class and do the homework
This guy is awesome. His love for the material is inspiring. When he gets excited about a point, his eyes get crazy and his voice cracks. He tried to teach out of the book, but I think we learned more when he gave us his own handwritten assignment(s). Exams were fair and reasonable. DO NOT MISS CLASS! You'll be lost immediately.
good math teacher. Makes the class interesting. Fair grader. No surprises on test.
he is an nice teacher, the stuff he talk about is understandable. If you try to follow what he say, you would be fine
His class is the first one I've ever actually fallen asleep in it. He is very energetic in his teaching so he basically yells at you sometimes. I don't think he understands the questions people ask him most of the time. His midterm was nothing like his study guide. Don't take this class
He's a fun teacher. He's really energetic so it's easy to stay interested in what he's doing. I learned a lot in his class and would definitely take him again.
He's a very nice guy. He's fair and he's always willing to answer questions or ask anyone who needs it. sometimes his lectures can drag on, but he's pretty clear. he knows what he's talking about. he's probably one of the most passionate teachers i've had. if you take this class, attendance is totally encouraged. one day can throw you off.
He's an OK teacher. he will answer your questions when you ask. 1 mid-term and 1 final. a few excel projects and homework is worth a big chunk of your grade. if you actually try, you can get a good grade. class was boring sometimes but bearable. not a bad class.
If you can self-teach yourself, then this class is for you. Don't bother buying the textbook either. You don't even use it.
i took him for business calculus and i regretted it. 1 midterm and 1 final. 1 page of note was allowed which i wrote down past notes that were taken in class. NOTHING on the notes were based on the midterm or exam. he doesn't curve and his grading system is hard to earn an A.
Do not rely on his lectures, self-teach is definitely needed. Uneasy online homework. 1 midterm and 1 final. Quizzes are given almost weekly but at random time. Hard grading system. I think more than half of the class were gone by the end of the semester.
I'm assuming this is his first time teaching math 110 aka business calculus. He's an OK teacher but you're better off self teaching yourself how to do most of the work. Online homework, easy 5 pts pop quizzes, 1 midterm and 1 final. Hard but survivable.
If you have never taken a stats class, I HIGHLY suggest that you do not take Prof. Maxwell. Although he is very nice, his lectures are very hard to comprehend. All homework is online, so if you just keep up with that, it is possible to do well in the class.. I hated that class, but ended up with a B+...
Yells out certain phrases lol. Very enthusiastic. Doesn't get back to you thru email so just talk to him in person. Allows notes for 1 midterm and 1 final. Online homework. Pop quizzes once a week so come to class and copy notes while you're at it. Class is easy if you really do try.
TAKE HIM. TAKE HIM. ONCE AGAIN TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT AN EASY A. NO JOKE. JUST DO THE ONLINE HW. RANDOM QUIZZES TAKEN TO PROVE UR ATTENDING CLASS EACH QUIZ 4 EASY QUESTIONS. ONE MIDTERM--16 QUESTIONS HELLA EASY. THEN YOU GET THE FINAL. JUST DO THE HOMEWORK CUZ, CAN BE UNCLEAR AT TIMES BUT EASY A. TRUSTT MEE.
Excellent lecturer, but lazy teacher. All multiple choice until the final, which had open questions (I think the dept. head told him he couldn't do just multiple choice). Most homework had two tries, so very easy.
He explains things clearly in class but the homework sometimes is different then the lecture. Theres a least 2 online homeworks a week. He gives a practice midterm that is like the actual midterm. You don't have to show up for the lecture but it helps because once a week he randomly gives a four point quiz, but they don't matter much if you miss.
Mr. Maxwell is really smart. He knows his stuff and keeps the class engaged. He makes statistics easier to understand and he gives really easy four point quizzes. Great Class!!!
oh yeah.
He tries very hard to be helpful and is very excited about his subject. And he's not too bad on the eyes either ;)
Maxwell I must admit is pretty lazy. Doesnt reply back to emails. It is just best to talk to him after class. Hw is online and you get two tries to submit. 4 point quizzes about one a week. Easy class but don't slack b/c of the midterm and the final. His examples in class is pretty clear but doesnt match the book. He definitely isn't bad to look at
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU SUCK AT MATH! Really, its useless taking this class, unless you are a math genius and like to teach your-self. On-line homework is greaaaat...but not for a Math class. Do your-self a favor & dont take this class, because its HARD!
I on average probably went to this class one out of the three days I had this class and still ended up with an A-. If you don't really need math 60 but were forced into it like I was, take Maxwell. You don't have to go, his hw is all online and not super long. Just go on the days you have tests and you'll be fine. :]
Not helpful, at all!! No email, no phone number. In class you'd better understand every word. Homework is all online but you have to teach yourself in order to do well. Not an easy A unless you already consider math to be fun. Haven't heard of passing grades from anyone in our class.
This guy is so annoying. You can tell when he has run out of things to say during class, because he'll just re-explain the same crap over and over again. This class covers very easy concepts, but it's also easy to get screwed out of an A if you just miss a few of the random quizzes or a few points on the midterm or final. and DON'T GET THE BOOK!
...DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE BAD IN MATH!!! he is not helpful at all!!..everything is online so do not bother buying the book, never lets you know when his office hours are! if u miss a homework assignment it messes you up!
SUPER EASY CLASS. Never went to class and got a good grade, its remedial, but its still easy. He explains things good.
homework is all online, if you miss any, you cannot complete them. it will screw your grade up if you miss too many. he explains math problems pretty well and will help you when you need it (during class)
Online homework, 3 excel projects, quizzez almost every week (in-class: 4 questions), midterm and final. One of the worst class, if not thee worse class that i have taken so far at sfsu. His in class examples does not match with the hw.TEACH YOURSELF. he should be your last choice. the subject is quite easy, but he makes everything so much harder.
emphasizes every other word "RANDOM variable." Always energetic to teach. Goes straight to lecture. simply copy whatever he writes on the board and you'll be good. Go to class so you won't miss pop quizzes (4 pts, and he'll give you the answer to the last one). The study guide for the Midterm & Final are similar to the real thing. take his class
Going to class was actually fun, he always seems so excited to teach; only he doesn't teach well. He's kind of all over the place and for someone who isn't good at math, like me, it isn't good. Doesn't respond to e-mails and most notes don't help with the hw. Also I NEVER USED THE BOOK, save your money, you'll need it for statsportal.
easy teacher but did not learn anything in his class. he goes really fast and is expected to read the textbook. he does not reply to emails at all. uses statsportal so you will have to buy it. 3 excel project which is easy and can do it with a partner.
This class is easy if you get the material. He moves to fasts but there is barely any homework, one midterm and weekly or bi- weekly quizzes they have four question and he gives you the answer to the last one and there are three excel projects which are given at the end of the semester.
So Mike Maxwell is an attractive man. You can see his crystal blue eyes from the top of a lecture hall but besides that he has a passion for his subject. His homework sometimes doesn't relate to what he lectured recently. Book sometimes was helpful but statsportal was used every night.
I rarely went to class, in class quizzes were easy, so were projects and homework, don't forget to do it! The midterm was okay but the final was hard, overall an okay teacher.
He's a great teacher, in terms of explaining the material. He's very funny and enthusiastic in the morning. Quizzes are quite easy, with excel projects. There was a midterm which was fine. But the final is quite hard. Know the material, and trust me you'll do fine.
Maxwell is really hot, but as a teacher he was of no help to me or most of the students in our class. He talked really fast and barely answered our questions. He never answered emails but when we asked questions he told us to email him???
Okay seriously, this was the worst class I've ever taken. Not only does he not cover the material that we need for homework, he doesn't even really answer questions in class. The class is practically online minus the ridiculous pop quizzes that he has at the beginning of class. If you can teach yourself, take this class.
Let me put this in simple terms, The man sucks. He's not a good teacher, his classes were boring and I learned nothing from him. Seriously If you need to do Math don't buy the textbook and study for the ELM so you can get out of doing remedial Math.
Great teacher. I'm terrible at math, but i understand it thanks to him. If you go to class, you will pass because he explains things well.
This class is only for those who do well in math. He is an unorganized teacher. The class itself is quite easy and you'll be fine if you understand elementary statistics. Take him if you are an independent learner
No matter who the teacher is for 324 the material will be the same. Maxwell just lectures the entire period, you just have to take notes and not fall asleep. Homework is collected about every three weeks. Two midterms and one final. Also one computer project but he made it very basic. Don't expect an exciting class
This class is almost entirely online, which made it difficult to keep up with the assignments. Unfortunately his lectures did not help whatsoever with the homework, and I found myself pouring through the textbook to learn the material. The 6-8 pop quizzes can also hurt your grade if you do not attend class. Wouldn't recommend for an easy A.
It's a Math class. You have to go to class everday and pay attention to the lecture. I learned that the hard way. He doesn't say when there's hw so keep checking online. 1 mid, 1 fin, ~6pop quizzes, ~weekly hw. for mid/fin, you are allowed a cheat sheet. I simply printed out the study guide bc it's SOMEWHAT similar. not that easy. warning.
His lessons are clear but he can sometimes move too fast. If you're falling behind, he doesn't stop for questions very often. Homework is online, and most of it only makes sense if you refer to the textbook. BUY THE ONLINE BOOK ONLY, you don't need the physical one. His syllabus does not tell you when tests are.
I found this class very easy. Basically his class is made up of short pop quizzes (4qs) for each chapter, 3 easy excel projects, homework, and a midterm and a final which he allows you to use a single sheet of paper (double sided) for notes. Just go to class and take notes.
He really knows his stuff. Great teacher and the HW is not too hard if you just stay up to date in class.
What is assigned on the homework is not clearly taught in class. Has pop quizzes every now and then mainly to check on attendance i assume. would not recommend you won't learn anything
This was an upper division course that beat me good. I'm not good at math and he was explaining everything as if we were all math majors. For each exam he allows one full page both sides of notes. I copied the whole practice midterm.. and I still failed it. The only thing I like was the homework grading cause you'll get at least a D if you try.
what is learned in class is not in the hw. would not recommend the class, he works fast and assumes you understand the work.
Assumes you understand the lesson. Online homework is completely different from what he teaches in class. Would not recommend at all.
This class was one of the hardest math classes Ive taken (though Im not the best at math). Maxwell was rude to me the one time I asked for help. The $120 book was useless, and I couldnt sell it back cuz it went to a new edition. Not recommended for people who are bad at math.
The subject was a bit hard but the professor did a good job of thoroughly explaining the material;broke every little thing down.He happily answered any question we gave him, even if someone had JUST asked it.VERY HELPFUL if you ask questions. ifyou do the sample problems on the study guide and make a cheatsheet you should be good on the exams
The online HW really has nothing to do with the POP ZEUS quizzes we have in class, he does teach well and clear
Awesome teacher, made sure you knew the concepts and made HW a no-brainer. Quizzes were a joke that consisted of 3 questions and then him giving you a letter to mark for the 4th answer. Take his class!
The online homework progressively got harder and harder to complete each week, probably due to the fact that most of which was on the homework was never taught in class. The whole semester I felt as if I was teaching myself. His Teaching style: staring at the board and writing endlessly without taking the time to explain, much less turn around.
Only used text for tables in the back. Gives random quizzes sometimes, so attend to not get F's. Do the HW and ask him to help and explain problems. Pay attention to learn topic. Sometimes the online hw can be hard, but at least there are 2 chances.
right off the bat, math is my least favorite subject. with that being said, the start of the class was easy and nice, it progressively got harder. there are random zeus quizzes (3 Q's), mainly given on fridays or whatever day the class is especially empty, so attend class to get points. theres a lot of hw, and only a midterm and (8 Q's) final.
Hot teacher but a little boring at times, writes everything on the board in clear writing. main downfall is requiring use of the latest and *very* expensive version of the book for HW. Pay special attention to HW completion as that is a big part of the grade. All in all an ok prof, just be ready for a killer course as the material is diff.
Just do all the online homwork and as long as you put in the effort you will pass the class. He teaching style is helpful because the notes in class are actually relevant to the homework and I think he is a fair grader. Study the study guide for midterm and finals. Students do admit that he is pretty hot.
I took AP stats in high school and for the most part i thought i had it down for the most part. at first the class seemed so easy, but as the year progressed it got harder. always assigns hw and his examples are always much easier than the hw. if you want to pass his class you need to do all the hw and get a decent score on the midterm.
This is the kind of class where it feels like you are taking notes for no reason. He writes a ton on the board w/o really explaining the material. I didn't learn a thing! He also gives random zuez quizzes so you cant miss class or you'll fail. He also is not good at reminding u when ur hw is due online so therefore u will miss and fail..Hated it!
Don't buy the book! It doesn't help. Take notes and use them to do online homework. Decent teacher and it's definitely possible to get an A. Two attempts allowed on the homeworks. Random quizzes given so go to class. Probably one of the better stats teachers.
Great teacher. Spent a lot of time out side of class helping me. His lectures were great and he kept to the book for about 90%. My advice take maxwell over any of the others teaching his sections.
I thought this teacher was really unclear with what he was teaching. He talked a lot but it was a language which students did not comprehend. All homework's are online, unclear and you only have 2 chances to fix it so you get low scores. You have pop quizzes. And excel projects which are pointless. Don't take this class with him!
Maxwell is an excellent professor, but he will emphasize concepts. If you're not too good with concepts, this will prove to be a frustrating class. That said, he is honestly one of the best math professors I've had at State, and would strongly recommend him to anyone looking for a strong understanding of math.
No textbook, so your understanding of the material depends on attendance. If you like to skip classes, don't take this class. He's very informative and makes things clear and easy to understand. The pop quizzes are usually questions from the homework with an extra credit.
He is a good stats prof. He has a lot of high energy & you can tell that he is passionate about stats. There is very little derivation of stats formulas. You are expected to know how to apply certain unexplained formulas in various situations. A TI cal is needed. Definitely possible to pass if you study & care about stats. I earned a B- for trying
professor maxwell is an OK teacher, dont expect help from him, he expects you to do the work by yourself. When emailing him about a few questions he responded almost a whole week later, which was irrelevant by then. search for a better teacher, avoid this one
He's a pretty decent teacher he makes everything sensible enough for those who no nothing about stats. I skipped a lot of classes because I took the course in High school so I already new a lot of the material. I wouldnt say that you have to go to every class but as long as your there for the 2nd day of every new lesson you'll be ok.
He's a pretty good professor. It's basically a lecture class, so if you need a more interactive professor he's not the one for you. He's a really nice guy and genuinely wants his students to do well in his class. The homework is kind of a pain.
Awesome professor! He is attentive to student needs with the course material and answers all questions. He is very passionate and without a doubt is very knowledgeable about the subject matter.
I enjoyed Maxwell's class. Stats is not a very easy topic to start off with but if you go to class, take notes, do your hw, and ask questions, you can get a passing grade in the class. Maxwell is a helpful prof. I definitely recommend him for math. Def will miss his class.
passable class, from completely independent work; little personal interaction with students during class; follow instructions and you will pass
I got an A in this class without reading the textbook. You don't really have to as long as you write down everything on the board. Some of the HW are a pain and very long. Exams are not curved but they look similar to the practice exams. Oh and he's quite attractive for his age ;-)
Barely ever came to the class and got an A. He posts everything online, and just repeats the info in class. You get 3 tries on the homework, midterm is multiple choice + notes page, 3 easy 5 minute Excel projects, and final is not multiple choice but you get a notes page. If you get the concepts, easy class. Average teacher though.
Take this class if you're strictly an autodidact. Unfortunately, I am not one so I suffered through this course. The online homework is manageable, same with the midterm. However, the final kicked my ass. Overall: Meh
Teacher is really easy, and okay midterm. Surprisingly the final was way easier than the midterm even though it was cumulative. Got a 100% on the final.
If you want learn and pass Math 324, then do not take this guy. He is absolutely horrible teacher. The book is awful as well. He writes a lot and his examples are always the same so when it comes to the homework assignment, your going to struggle horribly. Avoid him at all costs, and going to office hours was useless.
A very smart and clear teacher who knows his stuff. But be warned a very tough grader when it comes to hand written HW and midterm exams. Be careful! He is a complete Bad-A$$ at lecturing Calulus III. He is the boss at this stuff. To be safe you rather have him as your lab guy not the teacher who gives you an official grade if you care about an A.
Easy teacher. Gives a lot of examples to back up his lecture, and he lectures very slowly, sometimes too slow that the class got boring. But because of this, it makes it easier for other people I guess. Midterm is super easy, final is cumulative, but it's easy since he gives out a study guide which says everything that's going to on on the test.
Calculus III is not easy...at all, but Maxwell is a great teacher. Very helpful and is clearly a Calculus God. Very passionate about math and actually makes it somewhat fun to learn. Hard grader on written hw, tests are not as intricate as online hw, and he'll always answer your questions.
This guy knows his stuff, but he's pretty bad at explaining it sometimes. Online homework is relatively difficult. Definitely gonna have to self teach most of this stuff.
Maxwell should focus on his teaching because as it stands it just examples after examples with absolutely no interaction with the students. The reason why people don't "get stats" is because he is teaching to the book. Where does our observation/intuition come into play? He should not be teaching to math majors
He goes over everything you need to know in class and does example problems exactly the same as the homework and repeated on tests as well, so GO TO CLASS. There's little time for individual attention or asking questions in class so if you need help/are struggling ask him after class or go to office hours. Not too hard!
Do not take statistics from this guy, I don't know about his other classes, but this math class has been way harder for me then it should have been. He doesnt know how to explain things to his students and he doesn't respond to emails. He spends the majority of class writing on the board not explaining where he got his answers. Dont take his class.
I had him a while back and most of what I remembered him doing is teaching to the blackboard. He taught statistics in a superficial, non-proof based format and the entire course was geared towards applications which were really random word problems from the book. On the plus side he does come to class prepared and is comprehensive
Not hard,easy to get A
He knows his materials really well, however he doesn't explain them well enough and he expects you to have a strong understanding of algebra. The hw are ok, but expect the tests to be 3 times harder. He picks the hardest questions off of the hw and that's your test. If you're not a math person, you BETTER review before taking him.
Maxwell is hands down one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He is really passionate and energetic in the class, which really helps you stay focused on such topics. He knows his stuff really well, and he is very helpful when you ask him questions, even if they were very basic. He made me enjoy the class and sparked my interest in math. + Easy
not an easy teacher, but if you need help with anything go to his office hours, he will help you pass.
Very clear lectures and he's very passionate about the subject. There are two midterms and a final- pretty tough. His lectures are all directly related to the homework. The workload isn't bad at all- just daily online homework. I'm bad at math, but he does a great job of explaining everything. Would recommend.
I took stats in high school, so this class was really easy for me. It was just sort of a review. There's online homework every week and an iclicker exercise every class. If you pay attention and take notes, it's very easy to earn an A.
you definitely have to work for your grade and understand the material in order to pass. He's more than willing to help if you go to his office hours.
Professor Maxwell blew my socks off.... What a fantastic insightful mind. So helpful and knowledgeable. I don't think I could have asked for more. Super cute too!!!
Go to his lectures because he takes roll call by iClicker, if you're not there, he takes points off. Weekly online homework. One midterm (one page of notes), one final (one flashcard of notes), 1 excel project (EASY). Always go to his class or else you'll miss lots of notes. Without notes, you're screwed. His class wasn't as hard as I thought.
1 iclicker question per class for attendance. HW online, no limit on attempts.
I dropped the class because I wasn't understanding the material and he wasn't that clear with helping during office hours. Attendance is not mandatory but he does take it by iclicker. If you miss one class you get totally behind. But he's a pretty decent teacher I just suck at math. You need to buy the textbook to be allowed to turn in homework.
His class is difficult it can appear easy in lecture but the tests are hard. Notes are important and there are weekly videos (usually due thursday and friday night) and math homework due monday night. Attendance taken every day by iclicker. Emailed him once got a response 3 weeks later. Wouldn't recommend this class again.
Passionate. Loves to teach the theory than the application. He doesn't go over examples in class, but instead explains the theory of the equations. The materials he goes over in class does not appear on the exams. You're better off learning from the hw or online. Helpful professor and if you love math then take him. If not find another instructor.
He required us to answer questions with the iclicker, and that's how he took attendance. He wasnt helpful in class or outside of class, and if you have a question he will ask you to email him but he takes weeks to respond.
If any one want to understand math, he will be the best. I recommended for everyone want to learn. maybe he is tough, but I will take all classes with him
Explains the material very thoroughly and makes it easy to understand. There's one midterm and one final and homework is assigned through WebAssign about once a week. Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory seeing as it's such a low percentage of your grade, but you'll get lost really fast if you don't show up. Would definitely recommend.
I personally do no think he explained his lectures throughly. I found it difficult to grasp what we were learning because he just jumped right into his lecture without ever going over WHAT exactly we were learning for that day. Doesn't go over homework, speeds through lecture without stopping to answer questions. Everyone in my class was confused.
I'm really bad at math. Professor Maxwell's lectures go by so quickly. I skipped class rarely and didn't understand the material. He goes through chapters so quickly and I got lost really easily. Although I didn't make effort to go to tutoring, it was really difficult. If you're not good at math, don't take this class.
I took professor Maxwell Fall semester of '16. His lectures are pretty straight forward. I was scared of this class but he made the information clear and easy to understand as long as you take good notes and do the homework. Weekly homework, but they are not too hard since it's all done online. SHOW UP to class! Tests are easy as long as you study.
Dr. Maxwell was one of the best professors I have ever taken at SFSU. He goes extra lengths to make sure you understand the homework/projects in his classes. If you did not understand something in class, HIGHLY suggest you go to his office hours as he will help you. DO NOT SKIP classes, the semester is not over yet but I am satisfied thus far.
I did not like the class with Michael Maxwell, he went too fast and the lecture size was too big so I did not feel comfortable asking questions. When I asked him about office hours, he was reluctant to talk to me at all. When I went to him at office hours he was either not there or very rude and unhelpful.
He's not a very good teacher. What drew me into his class was that he mentioned he understands all students will learn calculus at a different pace. Well, he rushes through concepts and is unfriendly when you try to talk to him. He's not enthusiastic about what he teaches. Most of class cheated to pass, if you don't, you won't pass like me.
He was really rude when it came to asking questions and wouldn't clarify many things.
I didn't ask questions in person or through email, I only wrote down 98% of what he wrote during his lectures (his practice problems are very similar to the homework and exams). When someone did ask a question, he would reexplain and it helped. He allows one sheet of notes for all tests and takes attendance by iclicker. I would recommend him!
Professor Maxwell is a very straightforward lecturer. If you write down all his notes and use them for the online hw and to study you will grasp concepts and pass easily. He also gives great help if youre stuck on a problem. Gives reviews for exams to print out w answers which was very helpful aswell.
I took this class after taking statistics in high school and this class was an easy A. Not the easiest if it's your first time taking statistics. Attendance is worth 5% so it could boost you. There's a lot of homework, but partial credit is offered for late work. Lectures go very fast, but he explains things. Not very helpful in office hours.
Michael Maxwell was very rude when we would ask for any help or ask questions in and out of class. Throughout the course you only have a midterm and a final and the homework is heavy and online which means if your answer is wrong it can affect the homework grade by a lot. Do the homework and try to get 90%-100%. I would not recommend him.
PLEASE do not take this professor. He doesn't care if you are failing. Won't give you any chance to improve yourself. You will regret.
He doesnt explain things and goes really fast through topics. Making it harder to keep up with the work. Wouldnt recommend for someone who has trouble learning things fast
He's ok. His lectures are easy to keep up with, he lets you ask questions. Pop quizzes every other class without warning, even though his syllabus said he would give warning. You're self teaching a majority of the time. Does not allow cheat sheet for test but gives formulas. If you're talking he'll stop the class and get mad at you. Obviously.
The subject is not very hard but he makes it hard. His test are very tricky. Professor uses cengage for homework and there is about 25 homework in 15 week semester so you will be submitting 2 homework ever week. If you one or two then its best that you drop the course if don't want to get an F.
His lessons are done at a good pace, and he makes it easy to understand. He showed enough examples to make sure you understood the concepts well. Online homework heavy, but he lets you have infinite tries. As for tests, they can be difficult, but at least he posts the answers after so you can understand where you made mistakes.
Awful professor. Very homework and quiz heavy. He drops students who miss even one assignment with no warning. He constantly complains about how much work the class is, without being self aware enough to realize its because of him.
His teaching style doesn't suit me
Very organized. Lots of homework, about 2 per week. His notes are in depth and helpful while he goes over it during lecture. NOW... his tests are HARD and there's a time limit. He provides a very detailed study guide and says to study homework questions since he said his questions come from the homework. Not the case! Totally left field...
Worst professor ever!!!
extremely heavy course load!
OMG DONT CHOOSE THIS CLASS. IF YOU DID THIS IS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE OF YOUR LIFE. He's rude and gives A LOT OF WORK. IM FAILING BECAUSE OF THE EXAMS. Study guide doesn't help at all. GOOD LUCK, HARDEST CLASS AT SFSU IVE TOOK IN 4 YEARS.
Great Guy! Professor Maxwell was a really cool teacher for my Business Calculus class. If you do your homework and just look over his lecture notes you will have no problem getting a good grade. He records all his zoom lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I highly recommend it since there are participation quizzes.
Attendance isn't mandatory so it's easy to push off preparation and studying when it comes to exams (which are open note). The workload seemed higher than average but nothing too hard to manage. He's very nice and willing to accommodate students if they're struggling or unhappy with their grades (if they can demonstrate progression).
Need so much time for this class
Maxwell is the best math professor at SFSU. His notes are well written and prepare for his exams. Don't know why some people didn't attend his lectures he helps every person get the best grade possible. 3 exams(too easy), 24 Homeworks, quizzes every week. Just too easy, just do the work that's all he has everything for you :)
Phenomenal professor, he really cares about math and he is absolutely a statistics nut, which makes the lectures more enjoyable because he's so passionate about it. This class is pretty tough though, there is a big use of R, if you make a cheat sheet with all the functions in R, you shouldn't have a problem passing. But a lot of quizzes and exams.
His lecture is super clear and interesting. In addition, he gives a homework assignment once a week. Lectures are recorded. He made online class fun and exciting. The only thing is that exams are challenging. Most of the time, not enough time to finish all eight questions.
I'm not someone who is good at math, but I really enjoyed this class. Yes the actual content can be hard, but he's pretty thorough with his lectures (just remember to take notes). The homework was all on webassign and we did group work often. I got a pretty good grade considering I did meh on all the tests.
His class is hard because the time limit is too short, but he has an amazing lecture.
The professor provides a lot of useful materials online and you can expect to get at least 1 homework assignment each week. He shows a lot of useful and easy ways to understand math and also lectures normally go by quickly.
He's passionate about the subject but his lectures are dry and heavy. The assignments are easy if you follow the notes he has and the quizzes are just the most important part of the assignments (Don't miss any of them). He lets you use as many notes as you think you need for the midterms and final exams.
He was very kind and so patient and he really helped me understand math (which I struggle with), I really recommend him!!!
Great professor, good at keeping students engaged, repeats key points over several lectures, great with questions, uses R for pretty much everything, allows cheat sheets for exams and answers can be left as R commands/unexpanded, gives lots of credit for trying on exams even if you're wrong, I don't like stats but I'd do it again with him
He is very intelligent and enthusiastic but for 3 unit course, he assigned way too much work. We had to pay for Webassign subscription to do homework and even he complained about how he didn't like Webassign which made no sense. Also he didn't properly set up his office hours and I felt uncomfortable having to meet him outdoors in Thorton Hall.
Dr. Mike is an absolute gem. He is very sincere and always encourages students to ask questions. Lots of HW but that's how you will learn the material. He uses R to simplify complex distributions. get advantage of the office hours he is very helpful and approachable. On a side note the way he plays with Desmos is insane.
I don't know why someone hate this professor, he is one of the smart professor in SFSU. In the test we only have to write down the formula and put the number in. You don't even need the calculator. Just pay attention to the class. You can even bring a A4 not with you during test. What can I say. Overall, great professor.
Professor Maxwell's class is challenging but rewarding. The lectures are informative, and he's great at keeping students engaged. To succeed, attend class, read the textbook, and utilize resources like Unstuckstudy for study prep. Overall, a worthwhile experience.
Don't take it, he only teaches people who are doing well in the class, if you suffer in the topics, then you won't look at the clear sky of the "Good Grades," he does three exams back to back, with considering all of their grades to the final grade, and then he has a guideline to replace quiz grade if it's lower than the final grade.
Don't be intimidated by his 3/5 rating, watch the videos he posts and do the homework beforehand. His lectures aren't mandatory past the first few weeks, and all of the content he covers is found in the videos he provides. His exams are almost the same as his practice exams, so you're golden as long as you understand how to do the practice exams.
Mr. Maxwell taught Math for Liberal Arts Majors (Math 70), Fall 2024 at CCSF. The professor broke everything down into logical steps. His integration of online and in-class material was seamless. He was available for students needing extra explanation. The exams were a true reflection of taught concepts (no surprises.)
Prof. Maxwell is a true gem, he is very knowledgeable and his lectures are very informative. Although attendance isn't mandatory, I highly recommend going to class cause his lectures are amazing. I will also say the content taught is very heavy and dense so prepare to spend lots of time studying too.
Dude, this guy is fantastic. He is very good at breaking down complex topics in an easy-to-understand way. He also loves to make little jokes to himself. He is super lenient on test grading, understands you are trying your best, and rewards you. He is also just a tremendous dude. Love talking to him right after class about whatever. Very Funny!!!!!
My fav. He does weekly homework on myopenmath, which is not bad. He makes math interesting and simple. I highly recommend taking him! He is energetic and can be seen drinking coke cola. The only issue was that other students were half asleep, so he would keep asking easy questions to engage the students. (My grade was due to no hw turned in, oops).
Loved the class, the professor is a great guy who spends a long time going through each new problem in front of the class and is still available to walk around and answer questions when we're doing our solo/group in class work. We were reminded before every exam and given good resources for studying to make sure we did well. Overall good experience
This class was pretty easy and well organized. All of our assignments, class work, and quizzes were on my open math and graded as you complete the work. We had 4 in person exams in total including the final. He would give us practice exams to prepare and would use the similar questions on the real exam which made studying easier.
