Take Dr. Hahn instead for 202.

Very interested in making sure you know the material, and is therefore very picky, if you want to learn take him!
very picky and tries to make you feel that you don't know what you are doing
No Comments
He's helpful explains things in class pretty well, but is very very picky. You'll feel like you know what you're doing until you get you're test back. If possible take another teacher.
he is a hard teacher, but he will help you if you ask.
For someone that likes to do math my own way, I find his teaching methods excruciating. He picks on students that don't entirely "get it". What's there to get? Hm... maybe a better professor in the Math Department?
He's arrogant.
He is very difficult. He can't teach to our level. Tests are very hard. Avoid this teacher if possible.
The guy is a complete idiot. He doesn't explain things in terms that anyone could possibly understand. He once drew a big target on the board and announced to the class, "See, it's this easy."
He sort of has an odd sense of humor, but as a teacher, he knows what he's talking about and is always willing to help you through. He won't baby you though and if your really want to learn, you really need to put in the effort and try to keep up in clas
He's very difficult to understand, and doesn't understand why you can't get it. He gets sort of arrogant and mad when you ask for help
it's a tough class, but if you're willing to work, you can do well. he knows what he's talking about and will help you if you go to him. it's a challenge, but i don't think any other math professor would be easier.
um...
Awsome teacher.I took this class in high school and this was at the same level. He treats it as a weed out class so stick through the first 2 weeks and you will be fine.Good teaching style, always willing to help and explain.Go for it.
hard as hell
I love this teacher! Only stupid people think he's hard bc he tries to get you to understand the material and use your understanding as opposed to teaching you ways to memorize methods to solve problems.
He stated at the start of the year that he assumes you have had no previous experience in calculus but then turns around and teaches like you do. Terrible sense of humor. Take any other if at all possible.
Seems there's a great rift. He's either loved or hated. I would presume those that *understood* him loved, and those that didn't hated him. Well, if that's around a 50% success rate, in *his* grading scale, that's an F. So he fails to teach.
nearly 2/3 of the class dropped. hard as hell. seems to only like teaching students who have been taught the basics in calculus already.
He knows his math and really enjoys teaching. He will help you if you want it. If you take him be prepared to do your homework. He is a good teacher but his tests are killer, dont expect to get easy grades on the tests.
horrible teacher...drop it quickly
Does examples on the board but doesn't explain especially well. Lots of homework given but doesn't need to be turned in...quizzes every Friday and tests. The tests are DIFFICULT. Not a fan of this class at all!
Although the class is really difficult, he makes you laugh everyday in class with his terrible jokes and nerdly enthusiasm. He really wants to help you! Don't equate the difficulty of the class with his effectiveness as a teacher!
His finer qualities are condescension toward slightly-less-understanding students, using abstract, seemingly irrelevant analogies to "clarify" seemingly irrelevant side-notes to the essential parts of the course, and is cold an unapproachable.

He is very unhelpful. I really dislike this teacher. He is a snob and believes that every student in his class has this magic understanding of math. Don't bother going into his class for help. He'll tell you to do more problems without explaining.
Wow...this guy sucks! Hated his class, tortured me for a semester with annoying math that no one seemed to understand and he wouldn't take the time to explain. i WAS a math major until taking his class! This guy ruined my GPA...drop immediately!
HARD. But helpful. Go in for help. DO THE WORK AND STUDY!
I've had him for MTH 121 and 122 as well, and even though he is difficult he teaches very well. You are guaranteed a thorough understanding of Calculus. Do the homework, and study!. He also helps on the final. If you have a C and you get a B on the final He'll give you a B in the class.
Too smart for his own good. Unable to relate to students. Made class harder than it had to be by making students memorize theories. Avoid like the plague.
Did a wonderful job of convincing me to go into Graphic Design. Since I took his class I'm getting a 4.0 in my major and I'm in the running for Summa****Laude distinction. But I was failing this class. Definitely goes to show that it's not the student--it's the teacher.
If you are afraid of a little hard work, avoid this teacher. However, if you want to learn calculus, take this teacher because he is the best. I had him for Calc I,II, and III and in each class had a B going into the final. I got an A on the final and he gave me an A. It rewards you if you really nail the final. Tough teacher, but great teachr
This class was just toooo hard for me....if you're gonna take this class DO NOT GET BEHIND!
He is really hard, if you have a choice between taking it with him or Sterling, pick Sterling!
this was literally the worst teacher i've had here. He says to go in and get help if you need it, but was very cold when you actually went in, and I felt very unwelcome. I ended up with an A because i studied my ass off for the final, but it started witharound 40 kids and 13 were there at the end of the semester. he's an awful teacher.
I got an A in 109, but i had to drop because i did not want a D in 115. He has extremely hard tests. The homework is online and is hard to figure out how to format the answers. Avoid at all costs!
when he's writing on the board, he often stands in front of what he's writing, so you can't see it until he's onto the next point.
Actually a good teacher, but his tests are VERY difficult. Study the weekly quizzes, and know every theorem, and the tests might be much easier.
Actually a good teacher, but his tests are VERY difficult. Study the weekly quizzes, and know every theorem, and the tests might be much easier.
He was one of the most helpful teachers i have ever met. His tests are only REALLY hard if you don't study. The only bad thing is that the online h.w. can get annoying.
If one wishes to earn an A or B in this class then one must do just that, earn it. Mcasey is a brilliant and demanding professor. One must make sure to attend class for valuable notes as well as understand the daily online quiz questions. His exams are very hard but he is very helpful and if you do good on the finak he will bump your grade up.
Difficult. Always made himself available but pretty much useless. There's nothing wrong with hard work but this is insane. I'm in MTH 116 now and doing better than I was with McAsey.
This class is just ridiculous. It is called brief calculus yet McAsey teaches it like everyone in the room was going to be a math major. No reason for a 100 level course to take up this much time of my week every week. DO EVERYTHING TO AVOID HAVING HIM FOR YOUR 115 TEACHER. Tests are really hard regardless of study effort. Web Assign HW sucks..
Calc is really hard but I loved Mr McAsey! He is one of the best teachers I've ever had--always willing to help and the nicest guy you'll ever meet. If you need to take math and hate it, take him! If you love math, defs take him.
His teaching methods are horrible! He makes it seem more complicated than it actually should be!Oh and he has no mercy on you when you try to explain to him that you are not ready for the test, he will automatically fail you... If this class has taught me anything it is DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM AGAIN!
He is one of the Hardest teachers I have ever taken at Bradley, and he has NO mercy in his grading. I RECOMMEND AVOIDING HIM IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!!
Exams are very hard, hes a good teacher and very helpful but that doesnt make up for his exams.
He is the best math teacher you can ask for. He is always available to help. You will really learn in his class but you have to do all your homework and attend all classes. Just an awesome math teacher!
He is one of the most caring teachers I've ever had. This class is a big time commitment between going to class, homework, and studying, but he is willing to help you. I ended up dropping because I didn't have the time... but he told me that he will still help me next semester when I retake it with a different teacher. Hard class, but great guy!
This class is quite difficult to start with, but he does a great job of explaining things. When he teaches you a new concept, he draws a picture, relates it to Calc I, and goes through the derivation. If you don't understand something, just interrupt him, because he rarely turns around. I only wish he would give us more time on quizzes and tests.
Very hard class with him. You have a quiz every Friday, which you def need to study for & do the problems he assigns. The tests are very hard. However, he kept the 8am class awake with lighthearted jokes,& he's always willing to answer questions. Def go to office hours. He wants you to do well! Make sure you go to class for notes AND read the book!
The most amazing math teacher I've ever had. He truly knows his material. He teaches you the philosophy behind the mathematics so that you know where it comes from. He is answer to quickly and accurately answer any questions that you may have. With this said, be prepared to study a lot for this class! It's difficult, but fair.
He is surely one of the toughest teachers. He covers all of the materials in the book! So make sure to study harder at the end of the semester. His teaching style is great, just make sure you review right after class, do the homeworks, and study for the Friday quizzes.Stop looking for easy teachers who gives easy A's because there aren't any.
He is a very difficult professor, but he teaches math very well. He also treats classes as other professors should: where the professor is a resource that students pay to use, so he expects the students to ask questions and get help from him. He always says he is here for your benefit.
He wants you to learn the material. If you are having troubles, go to his office hours. He is always more than willing to help you until you understand it. He will never give you answers, instead he will have to get to them yourself.
Great teacher. Really funny and goofy. Learn the material from the ground up if you want to do well on his tests. relying on memorization and pattern finding will get you a C.
Math has never been my best strength, and to sum it up, this class did not do to much for me, i still hate math and will never be doing anything we did in class in my career. But with that said Michael is definitely a hard professor, he really knows his stuff and will answer any question with great detail, helpful in office hours as well.
He weights his exams heavily. Each one is 10 questions worth 100 points and he gives very little partial credit.
He wants you to learn the material. If you ask a question, he answers with another question to get you to think and find the answer yourself. While there may not be any homework, you need to work problems he gives to fully understand the material. He is also very helpful in his office hours and is quite funny in class.
Dr. McAsey is a great person but a hard professor. He's funny, entertaining and you can tell he wants his students to know the material. He's an extremely smart guy, and with that being said, his test and quizzes can get quite difficult. He wants you to not only know the material well, but be able to understand it conceptually. Don't skip class.
I did not enjoy taking this class all semester. He's so specific on having everything correct when he grades. He knows his material and wants you to know it like he does. Be sure you know every theorem and definition he discusses in class. Overall he is a good teacher but I am glad this course is over.
Dr. McAsey is a fair teacher. I learned more calc than other sections. However, I would take a different professor if you expect an A. The exams are similar to the practice exams that he releases. He was always very helpful during office hours and encourages students to come. This class is easy to get a B in, but it is hard to get an A.
Feedback is often lacking on tests and quizzes. You'll have to rely on many office hours for this class because it's extremely difficult. Take it with a grain of salt if he tells you not to drop. Class is doable if you "do some problems", but you have to work extremely hard to pass.
I guarantee that anyone who's rated this professor less than a 3 or a 4 is just lazy and has never actually had to work for a grade before. McAsey is a tough teacher but also a fair one. He makes what you have to know very clear & will make sure you understand how to do a problem and WHY you're doing certain things. do the HW and you'll get a B ez
This teacher was probably the best math teacher I've ever had in college and high school. He was always extremely energetic in class and would stop whenever to explain something to you. Office hours were the best I've ever had. He would go thru problems slowly so I could understand better. Homework is alot, but it really prepares you for the tests.
Gives a ton of homework. Written homework once every couple weeks takes like 5-6 hours to complete, and he gives an online assignment every other day which takes at least an hour to complete, often on things he hasn't taught in class yet. Then after the hw on the material is due, he'll lecture about it. Also a VERY tough grader.
While this course was difficult, I felt that I have gotten a lot out of it. The tests are fair and cover the material that was lectured. The homework does not take too long to complete. He stops to answer questions that are asked by the students. I never even bought the textbook for this class, but an access code for online homework is required.
He's a real fungi and is very easy to talk to. Helpful and relaxed in office hours. I had trouble at the beginning because he doesn't explain things from the bottom up very well - it seems he has a disconnect from what the common student understands. Read the book section before he lectures on it, and what he says will make sense. Homework is fine
McAsey is a very good professor if you actually want to learn something. There is daily online homework, but it isn't too bad and it keeps you on top of the subjects. However, this means you really don't have to use the book that much. If you fall behind, it is very hard to catch up. Overall, I really enjoyed this class and him as a professor.
McAsey is a good-spirited person and great explainer! Don't be scared to take this class, however this class WILL test your limits. It's terribly difficult material and quizzes are every week which are closely related to the OPTIONAL homework (the numbers he DOES NOT assign) but about 4-5 tests in total. GO INTO OFFICE HOURS and PRACTICE A LOT :)
Just the right mix of goofy, caring, and knowing his stuff. Great professor always slows down to answer students questions. Make sure to do the practice problems if its a semester that he doesnt give online assignments. Clear on what material you need to study. Tough but fair grader. Very helpful in class and outside of class. Very accessible.
Easily the worst teacher I've ever had. Great guy, and humorous, but doesn't teach at all. Could be condescending at times and made you feel dumb when you didn't understand. He was extremely unorganized and wouldn't teach the homework until the day after it was assigned. Everyone in the class was constantly confused.
Dr. McAsey is the best math instructor I have ever had. He loves mathematics, and he shows it in his unique fun personality. McAsey is not the professor to take if you want to "learn" math, as in memorizing equations and plugging in numbers. He really wants you to learn the theory, which is what a mathematics education should be.
Calc 3 was my first college math class, and wow he goes fast. However, he was very available outside of class, and teaches in a style that makes sense and helps students understand the material better than most. He's quirky and cracks jokes a lot, which helps break the stress. Gives quizzes weekly, so you can't slack at all.
Professor McAsey remains my favorite professor at Bradley! His classes are really easy if you do the homework and go to class. The lectures are very interesting and engaging as well. He also is very available during his office hours and gives good homework tips!
Professor McAsey is a really nice guy but is definitely the most difficult math professor I have ever had. We get homework graded for correctness every night, and tough quizzes every week. He expects everyone to think like a fourth-year math major.
Absolutely horrendous teacher. Seems like a good guy in all the lectures, but holy crap is this class awful. He barely explains the concepts then speeds through the examples without connecting the two. He always says to do more homework, but the homework isn't representative of the quizzes and tests at all. I've never had a worse math teacher.
Recommend not taking his classes. Although he is good at explaining things, there is homework every day, almost no extra credits, the tests are way harder compared to the homework and what he taught in class. Lecture and theory-heavy. Also the tests are super long and they can barely be finished on time. He also did not return the final test
Professor McAsey is a very friendly and good humored person. However, the material is often very difficult and he does a poor job explaining the material most of the time. The tests and weekly quizzes are quite a bit more difficult than the nightly homework and in class examples. He is very helpful in office hours when you have questions.
similar to other math professors at Bradley, Dr. McAsey just isn't the best. gives a lot of homework due in an unreasonable amount of time and you have to teach yourself a good bit of the topics if you want a good understanding. He is very bad with technology and refuses to give grades on canvas but instead makes students calculate their own grade.
