Great professor. He is fun, easy going and makes class enjoyable. He is funny too... ;). Take him.
Not really a hands on type of person which drags the class on and on with his lectures. The only thing I can say something good about him is when he cracks a joke or two just to wake up the class for about ten seconds...
I liked the way he teaches. He makes a lotta references to the simpsons and likes caping on the students =D
The best political theory scientist ever. He makes learning about Aristotle, Socrates, Machiavelli, Benjamin Franklin and so on, much more pleasant to read and understand. He is on the top of political theorist known to me. I appreciate him.
Mclendon is a pretty good teacher. Actually, he is probably the easiest teacher you can have for political science course. As long as you pay attention to him in the lecture you will be fine. Try not to fall asleep and you won't have to read.
he is the funniest political science teacher and easiest too. he cracks tons of jokes in class and picks on students as well. no reading necessary just listen to him lecture and take notes and you will pass.
HE IS SO HANDSOME WHICH MADE ME WANT TO PAY ATTENTION EVEN MORE TO BAD HE'S MARIIED
He is very well prepared and knows his stuff. He likes to work with students and knows how to make reading philosophy fun. He is EXTREMELY gorgeous and has a great sense of humor. He's wonderful, especially for the ladies..watch out fellas.
He is a good looking man. One thing taht i should mention about him would be do not use or answer any phone calls in class because he will embarrass you. Overall, he is great. Listen and take good notes instead of reading.
Very thoughtful, but prone to going off on tangents. Very smart and always willing to help you if you're willing to put in a concerted effort. I would recommend this professor to anyone interested in the simpsons or basset hounds. Jokes aside take this to learn more than just statistics...
You don't have to buy book for his class. The page is much cheaper than a book. His lecture is interesting and is a main resource for test. You may not have to read the page at all if you are there all the time and took good note. Tests are in the short answer and essay form. One 5-7pgs essay.
Best political science professor in the department. He makes learning theory fun and interesting. I recommed him to everyone I see. He puts theory into perspective. If he wasn't married I'd marry him.
His class begins with outlines (which would be a very good idea to copy down). The part on Hegel was way too abstract for me (Zeitgeist?!), but he did make it at least understandable. Yes, good detailed notetaking is especially essential in McLendon's class if you don't care to read the text
He is a good teacher, actually one of the best at the college. No complaintes here. In fact he lays a good foundation for more advanced studies in political science. He is good at making abstract political theories understandable. He will definitely help you if you have questions.
Trys his best to make a boring subject interesting. He is very passionate about his field. Hardly any assignments. Watch out ladies, and try to ACTUALLY pay attention to the LECTURE lol. he's a total hottie.
Awesome and Intersting Professor. Keeps you interested in the class
He is incredibly funny and always willing to help you. He's also super organized, uses the overhead every class if u take down the outlines it's extremely helpful in organizing ur notes. U will do well as long as u make the effort and read the assignments. Incase it hasn't been mentioned enough, HE IS SO HOT IF HE GETS DIVORCED IM NEXT IN LINE ;)
He is a very enterteing professor...he makes learning easy and fun...I recommend him to every1
Its a lecture hall so all he does is talk. Its interesting. All you have to do is read. Not much interaction between teacher and student but he does make things as clear as possible. Seems like an easy B or C

Really funny and interesting. Probably one of the best instructors I have ever had. Work was easy. Notes given are completely organized and easy to follow.
McLendon is the****
first thing...(im a guy), but all the girls think the teacher is handsome/hot. Class is pretty cleared, but Mclendon speaks kind of fast, so u gotta keep up and take notes FAST!...make sure you're in class everyday, if u miss a lecture youre introuble if you dont copy your neighbors notes...1 midterm 1 paper, 1 final...make sure u do well on all 3.
McLendon is a charismatic, intelligent, funny, and passionate professor. He cares about teaching and it shows. Plus, he is extremely dreamy. I highly recommend his classes.
Ok he is hot in a dorky way but he knows it! Anyway my favorite thing about Dr. M is that he is compassionate. We had a student who was severly disabled and had a hard time communicating. I have personlly witnessed other professors ignore this student and even disrespect him. Dr. M. made this student feel welcome and comfortable.
Oh my God!!! He is horrible! His class is so hard. I don't understand why people put good comments for him here.Do not take this class! His exams are so hard. No multiple choice.. Everything is written test and essays. His TA grades the exams so hard. He is the worst teacher!!! Do not make mistakes!!! Take this class if you want a "F".
Great class you just have to do the work and show up. Isn't that what you do for any class? I dont see why people complain, his class was actully kinda fun
loved his class! he is a very good professor. made the subject clear and interesting. there was only one exam, a 3-5 pg paper, and the final which were all pretty easy. all u had to do really was attend class and take good notes on the lectures(he gives you most of the notes) he interacted with all the students and made us feel comfortable.
Very good professor. The subject he teaches has real meaning for him therefore he is able to teach the subject well and passionately. In order to pass the class you need to be able to take good notes and think critically about the ideas presented in class. If you can do this you can pass his tests which help you develop your thinking capacities.
McLendon owns! Don't listen to the complaints. Do the reading show up and take the test, its so simple you must be an idiot if you fail. I did 3/4 of the reading and got a B in his class and thats because I was lazy too! If you want an A you'll have to work harder than I did. Simply put just go to class and listen, he explains everything in class.
A passionate scholar and teacher with a cynical sense of humor. I love it! He encourages debate and discussion and reviews all assigned material in-depth. Be sure to keep up on the reading. An absolutely fair grader. I would certainly take him again.
Not a easy "A" class, but not hard either if you at least try he will pass you. I didn't do that good on my tests, but at the end I got a "C" in the class. Only bad thing about his class is his tests it's not multiple choice.
Dr. McLendon is an excellent professor and he is extremely nice. His notes are very useful for the tests. Do not miss class. There is a midterm and final which are in essay form and one paper. The reading gets a little complicated at the end of the quarter, but he explains the books well.
i'm not sure if that's the rigth class number, but it's classical political theory. great professor willing to work with his students. very passionate about what he teaches and class is definately not boring. not an easy A but not hard to get a C or a B either
McLendon's 150 was a great class! Very informative and interesting. The 'A' won't come easy...his exams are all essay questions, but it's definitely worth the challenge.
I had him for Pol 150, easy A if you come to class and take notes. You have to write everything he says down for his exams. Basically to get a A you have to understand the topic and rewrite everything he said in class for his ESSAY exams. Easy class if you STUDY a lot. I mean A LOT of memorization for mid and final. Dont buy any of books NOT needed
Great Professor. He gives a midterm and final which are in essay form and one 6 page essay. Highly Recommended.
McLendon really knows his stuff and presents the material clearly. This class is not an esay A, you need to show up to every class and TAKE NOTES. Class requires a paper (5-7 pages) and a final (all essay. Some quarters the throws in a mid-term.
unlike most poli sci profs he kept me completely interested in the material of his course. not an easy A but worth the challenge.
Amazingly brilliant Prof. The best at Cal State L.A.
Extremely good professor. Keeps his students awake and focused. Make sure you read the chapter before you go to class. Make sure you write all he says in his lecture because it will be in his mid-term, the paper, and final exam. Read, review, study, and you will pass the class with an A. Do not procastinate. Strongly recomend him. His lectures ara n
Dr.McLendon is a very knowledgeable person. He is very clear and ready whenever he comes to class. Tests are hard, but manageable as long as you come to class and take good notes. The essay assignment does take a lot of points, about 40% of your grade depends on it which really sucks. Overall, I've learned a lot and appreciate politics better, now.
This guy lives, eats, and breaths philosophy...which is a good thing if you want to learn. I am new to the college and this class will prepare and test you. A very good professor. Even though I probably wont get a high grade this instructor was really good quality for my money.fall 08
Very Interesting. Comes with outlines to lectures. Talks very fast. Tape recorder would be helpful or good note-taking skills. Good class participation on philisophical issues. I learned a lot. Gives essay exams and a paper. Good stuff.
Very Interesting. Talks very fast. Pay attention. Tape recorder helpful or good note-taking skills. Interesting philisophical issues. I learned a lot. Gives essay exams and a paper. Good stuff.
Dr. McLendon is arrogant and very disrespectful to his students. His lectures are very interesting but they are very quick so you have to take notes very quickly or have a tape recorder. In his office he doesn't look at you giving you the impression to leave. Very disrespectful.
Buy a tape recorder! I mean it. I passed with a good grade cause of this. Take super good notes, bring coffee, come to class or you wont pass. Record those lectures and review or YOU will be lost. Participation not mandatory, One take home mini essay midterm, one 5pg paper, and essay for final. Bad-his lectures are not in order goes off in tangents
Lectures are sometimes a little dry, but likes to joke in class. Great personality. Dr. McLendon will bend over backwards to help you understand class materials, including email and office hours. Has a very fair grading policy. If he likes you, he'll pick on you in class.
I don't like philosophy at all but Dr. Mclendon made it fun and simple. The readings are long and tedious but just go to class and take good notes. a 6 page paper, 1 midterm and i final with short answers and an essay. He likes to joke and is always there to help or clarify. don't be intimidated by political theory.
Great Professor. Best I have ever had at CSULA. Passionate about his field and dedicated to his student. Not my field of study but very glad to have had the opportunity learn from him.
SECTbest! One 6-8 page paper, midterm & final are long answer/short essay; really good @ explaining things & tries to make jokes during class. Repeat examples from class for a B, make your own examples for an A. Likes it when you argue something "outside of the box." I really enjoyed his class & will be taking 433 in the Spring.
He is one of my favorite professor i had during my time at CSULA. He is very passionate about the subject. The material is hard to comprehend on your own, you must go to class to clarify and fully understand the readings. It is NOT an easy A. I managed to get an A but it was hard work. I highly recommend him.
ILOVE THIS PROFESSOR!!!
Professor McLendon??? what moroue can i say about this professor? He's simply the best. Very insightful . His lectures speak to your soul.
"Now is the winter of our discontent." His agruements are like a slap in the face, and you will like it!
Knowledgeable, engaging, insightful, challenging, perhaps the ideal professor. Lots of reading. LOTS. Lectures are clear, but full of tons of information--recorder would be helpful. His class will require you to work quite a lot, but what you learn and getting to work with McLendon is worth it!
Good professor, explains readings thoroughly (which is extremely helpful). Reading the assigned readings is a must, a recorder is helpful. Very approachable and lively.
Dr. Mclendon is really enthusiastic about what he teaches and makes dense political theory easily understandable. one take home midterm, one essay, one in class final. these are really easy even if you don't read just take notes and pay attention and you'll be fine. answer the questions, don't worry about length
Dr. McLendon is very disrespectful towards his students. He makes rude commentaries in class and offense his students. he will not go out of his way to help you,if your struggling in the class he will not care if you drop. When you arrive to his office hours, he will talk to you and email at the same time. His door isn't open when he says it is.
McLendon is probably one of the best professors I've had in my college career. He assigned like 9 different books but you can get them all on amazon for under $40. Very helpful and a great philosophy teacher BUT he does speak extremely fast and does mumble from time to time so record the lectures! Also, don't be afraid to ask questions.
He is funny, hot, nice and fair. I got the grade that I worked for.
He is alright, but his grades are based on lot of reading. Do ALL the readings, otherwise you'll get a bad grade. Also, try not to miss his lectures, being sick is not an excuse for him and if you borrow notes, you still need his lectures. Not a bad professor.
ONE OF THE BEST AND MOST PASSIONATE PROFESSORS IN THE POLITICAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT.
take lots of notes during his lecture. expect to either do all of the reading or skim through all of the books and do a lot google searches. honestly not a hard class as long as you keep up with reading. he's not rude, but he will confront you about believes you may espouse in class. dont take it personal its just critical thinking
I didn't even get an A and I feel like I learned so much from him. This is what a professor should be like. He is charismatic, helpful and super intelligent. I took the required political theory class and came back for more as an elective. He by far has the best lectures in the whole department. He makes philosophy fun to learn.
He was a great professor. Hard subject matter, but he explains it very well. He spent most of the class talking to Jazz. Very interesting teacher.
Really enjoyed his class. We covered many textbooks, but he made some of them accessible online. 1 Essay, midterm and a final. Some random quizes for attendance purposes. If you do the work, its not so hard. Easy on the eyes.
Great professor. I can tell he REALLY loves teaching and pedagogy generally. Because of this, I honestly felt guilty the few times I missed class. He's very knowledgable and is entertaining to listen to, lecture wise. Like, he really knows his stuff; and he expects you to learn the material he presents in class (and rightfully so). Would take again
Awesome Professor. Nothing less than too legit to quit.
I took Dr Mclendon's class 10 years ago and still remember his lectures. He is very knowledgable and is a lecturer who ensures that his presentation of ideas is relevant and entertaining. Take his class.
He is a Fun and Entertaining Teacher. He really does care about teaching you the topics. He is VERY helpful at his office hours and will cover anything you need clarified. He seems to Love with Justin Beiber and talks about Beiber this, Beiber that. I would Honestly take every single course he has because his lectures are so much fun to listen to.
AWESOME!!! I wasn't sure what to expect but this was perhaps the best class I've ever taken. His lectures are amazing and you genuinely understand the material. Read the books though because he does ask ? and you don't want to be lost. Accessible outside of class. The topics are amazing and he is funny too. Take his classes you won't regret it!
Of all the professors you ought to take Dr. McLendon is a real gem. His lectures are profound and inspirational and dive into deep topics regarding Political Science and life. He is hilarious and attempts to relate said topics to contemporary issues. Read the books, do the work, coming to class are VERY IMPORTANT. 1 paper, 2 exams.
His lecture is beyond compare. Prepare by reading and referring to the lecture outlines. Read, take good notes during lecture, 1 mid term (20%), final paper (40%), and final exam (40%). You either know it or you didn't pay attention in class-no in between. Lastly, if you were really sorry you wouldn't have done it.
Make sure you read. Two papers, midterm and final.
He's so funny and made the lectures really fun. Take him and make sure you read.
Amazing professor. Despite the time constraint we had we were able to cover many topics. Demonstrates a clear dedication to what he teaches. I wish he taught more classes. He's somewhat lenient with grades, he is more concerned whether you actually get the material. Well worth taking the class. 10 books used. 2 papers. Lecture heavy and reading.
One of the best professors I've taken, if you have the chance and his class isn't waitlisted take it! I took him online for political theory and I learned so much given it was online. I would definitely take him again, the work consist of three papers, and final exam thats it.
Gives insightful lectures that are funny and his character provides easier understanding on materials. He grades really tough on writing styles and should be MORE clear on prompts if summary/analysis is needed. This isnt an English class of the any sort, be prepared to write and analyze critically.
HONEST REVIEW: Dr. McLendon is an awesome instructor, and bit of a tough grader. There is a total of four essays, three of which are from three Units of your own choosing. The fourth essay is the Final essay, which is a Philosophical Essay. He was very understanding that students too were struggling with COVID-19, he let students submit late work.
McLendon will be a memorable prof for me. He is very engaging, funny but still gives you all the information you need in his lectures. Take good notes and pay attention as this information WILL be used in his assignments. He seems to be a caring prof and I would take him again. Very accessible as well.
Professor Mclendon is a great professor. If you come to class and take notes, you will pass! Theres a total of 2 papers and two exams. The readings are challenging, so it requires a lot of time. I passed with an A, but be prepared to work for it. Hes funny and caring. Just talk to him and come to his office hours.
Assigns a lot of reading so the lectures are also very long, but he's charismatic and tries to be engaging. If you keep up with the readings the long lectures are easier to understand and keep up with. He doesn't believe in "small assignments" and only grades based on a few comprehensive writing assignments which include the final and midterm.
Class is graded by 2 essays and 2 written exams. Many textbooks are required and lecture-heavy. If you're a visual learner, this class may be difficult as he just talks during lectures and doesn't do slides or bullet points. He isn't savvy with Canvas. The teacher is accessible outside of class and understanding if you communicate your concerns.
I want to start by saying that there was a total of 9 textbooks to read throughout the semester he needs to keep in mind that some students work full time and have other courses 9 books are too much. His lectures were all over the place it was hard to keep up, expect to write your final like a graduate student.
He's a good professor but get ready to read alot of textbooks some are easy some are hard to understand.Overall he definitely shows that he cares that his students learn rather than just intake information.
Dr. McLendon is okay. The material is very interesting, but lectures can be tiring depending on energy level. Assignments are okay but are difficult to try to obtain a really good grade.
This professor is actually passionate about what he teaches and totally reflects it. It's contagious and makes the class easier to handle, although there's a lot of reading.
Dr. McLendon is one of the best professors that I have ever had. I had never taken a political theory course before his and didn't know what to expect, but he made the material understandable and engaging. He is also genuinely caring and helps each student learn and succeed. I only regret not taking more classes with him during my time here.
Dr. Mclendon is one of my favorite CSULA professors. His engaging lectures, iconic jokes, and thought-provoking materials/readings (especially those on Marx, Thoreau, and Mill) were always the highlights of my day. I appreciate his ability to draw from his knowledge and love for political theory.
Genuinely the best professor I have ever had.
Great professor. He definitely cares that you actually learn the material and understand the course overall. May be hard to understand your grade overall near the end .
He's a really good professor. He has a ton of passion for teaching and helping you understand the material.
