i took a previous philosophy class before and didnt really like it that much at all so i expected to dislike this class as well. however as the class progressed, i actually enjoyed going to class, he really has a grasp of the material and encourages students to ask him for help if they do not quite understand.

Don't take this class in the summer! It's a hard class, but McNellis is a very smart man. He's very cute (cause he's Irish!)

McNellis is truly inspiring. I went into his class not knowing what I wanted to do with my life, and now I want to do what he does. He'll encourage you to think about things in ways you've never approached them before. He doesn't give any one religion preferential treatment, either. I highly recommend this class to anyone!

Highly recommended teacher, has high expectations but provides much in return. It's hard to be cranky when he teaches as his positive attitude is contagious. Although I don't know my grade yet, I still loved this class! It definitely was NOT the easiest class I have taken but quite possibly the most enjoyable. McNellis is always cheerful and funny. The material is difficult, but he explains the heck out of it until everyone "admits" they understand. He also has good office hours and tutors to help.

This class should be taken seriously. It is tough but the hard work pays off. Chapter 1 is hard. Practicing the odds and evens from the homework helps a lot. A Study Group is a MUST. The CD helps a lot too. If you do this, then you will succeed. He's a funny, awesome teacher! Makes the class interesting.

First, Mr. McNellis is way hot. Second, make sure you pay attention and take notes. Philosophy was a much more difficult subject than I had intended it to be. Third, make sure you actually read. I found philosophy incredibly boring when I read the text, but his lectures help so much and are very interesting...besides his good looks..

I took this prof last spring semester and he made Logic a very interesting class. At first, i'm not really into it. But at the last part i learned to love the class. I had him for Eastern Religion, B32. Challenging course no doubt, but I can't think of another prof that is better fit to teach it. Easily one of the most passionate guys I've had, makes subject interesting and lectures are fun and engaging. Hinduism, Daoism and Buddhism are difficult concepts to grasp, but it's worth it. A in the class.

Excited by his subject, which makes his lectures brilliant. He knows much about his subjects, but as broad as religion is, there is room for philosophical discussion and induction from precepts. That he allows this makes the class very engaging. The student actually adopts the perspective of the religions studied and works with them practically.

really knows his stuff- only wants to teach what is relative so you don't burn out -and even if you are having trouble- he's eager to help. he's passionate about the subject, he forces you to learn a difficult subject by making it somehow...'bearable'. he is a a great teacher and very nice to look at! yes, take him. no question.

I was so wary of this class at the beginning of the semester, but his passion is contagious. He is so unbelievably smart and loves what he does- and it shows. He's an excellent teacher and I highly recommend taking one of his classes; they're not easy but you will definitely learn a lot.

Mr. McNellis was an interesting teacher to take. He is very passionate in what he teaches. However, he could've been better at conveying that passion into his teachings in an effective manner. Logic is a hard class, but he is a really helpful and he cares! Once you commit to do the hard work, it becomes fun. I took it in the summer but put in more work for it simply because he made it interesting. Attendence isn't mandatory but you will be lost without it. Having the book, doing the homework, and going to study groups are all NECESSARY.

I took his class online, and he is very responsive, helpful, and fair. As others stated, he cares about his students and he keeps it interesting.

I took this course online and it was definitely a tough subject but he tried to be as helpful as possible. The work is not easy but I don't think that has anything to do with his teaching style, its just logic is hard anyway. I think I would have enjoyed and better understood the material if I had taken the course on campus rather that online.

Loves to lecture and they're never boring! There are no presentations or speeches (thank god!) He's fun and thorough. Tests are based on a combo of notes, textbk, and lectures. Extremely fun and down to earth!

One of the best managed on-line classes I have taken. He is easy to reach, quick to respond & always encouraging..unless you arn't doing your part. He doesn't require busy work, he just expects you know the material & do well on the quizez & exams. He has many resources to help student succeed. It requires you think outside the box.

McNellis is pretty awesome, he gets super enthusiastic about the subject he's talking about. I took Eastern World Religions and not going to lie, it was pretty hard and confusing. But he managed to make it interesting. You should probably attend most days because you will get very lost.

More importantly though, he is by far one of the most excellent professors at BC, as well as one of the most intelligent. His classes are never boring and he really knows what he's talking about. McNellis is an anomaly!!! He's incredibly brilliant in terms of his insight and abililty to articulate all the deepest crevice's that religion has to offer. As if this wasn't enough, his public speaking ability is tantamount to the best you've ever seen. This is a sure bet that his class lectures are enjoyable and easily understood. The only critique I could offer up would be that he's a bit sequestered in regards to email communication. In summation, he's a fantastic instructor that means well!

The professors are BC are generally unimpressive, but McNellis simply doesnt fit the standard of a lackluster community college instructor. (Hes also super attractive.) He has an amusing style of lecturing which offers breadth and nuances in equal parts to expand and inspire ones understanding of the material. His Logic class is neat, too.

Took his Intro to Logic online course, while he is extremely helpful to help you understand, the course is HARD! I'm surprised I even passed, but he gets an A for giving great feedback and being accessible.

He's honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had. Understanding the subject itself is difficult sometimes but he's really good at explaining it and helping you when you don't understand. I wish all teachers were like him.

He is a fantastic teacher. The material is challenging but he sincerely cares about his students' success. I learned a lot from this class that I have applied in other classes and in life.

To be honest the guy is really into his subject that he teaches in this case Intro To Logic. He's a good speaker but the class was tough in my experience and the homework online was always tougher than the examples he would give over. The thing I hated about this class was he almost never emailed me back or other students. He needs to work on that.

He was very good at communicating with his online students and students knew what to expect from the class. Chapter 1 was really hard, but after that you will be fine. He emails fairly quickly (on average weekdays he takes a day to reply). He curves (max 5 to 7% on exams) because he wants his students to be successful.

McNellis really is awesome. I took the class over the summer, online no less, and still ended up passing what I understand is a difficult class. His lectures are very entertaining and clear, and the book is easy to read. He often let us re-do exams and assignments- keeping the highest grade. Need this class? Take McNellis!!!

The subject can be very difficult to understand, but professor McNellis will be able to help by offering lectures that are both entertaining and interesting that can help you understand Logic better. Homework and quizzes are done online. Exams may be tough, but he grades on a curve and will try to make it much easier than the homework problems.

Definitely loves his job and loves to teach. This class taught me so much about logic and changed the way I think. His personalitity made the class fun to attend. The class is tough, but he is there to help 100% of the way.

Mr. McNellis is very smart & he's a nice professor that cares about your success. Starting ahead of time on homework is strongly suggested and tests are no joke either. If you don't study for them, you won't do well. Also, McNellis is mighty attractive for his age! I'm going to miss that smile.

This class was extremely difficult for me. I struggled in the beginning but eventually got the hang of it. I would recommend this class based on himself as a professor. He wants to see his students succeed so bad. If the class average on an exam is bad, he wants to fix it and make sure everyone in the class understands. Not an easy A...

I never knew what philosophy was about, Its like a big puzzle. I had to watch a lot of you tube videos to be able to grasp the material. The professor was at times MIA, it didn't bother me though since he would extend due dates, and it wasn't too difficult except for chap. 6 and it's truth tables. Overall I would take him again.

McNellis is a rare kind of teacher that was able to teach a difficult class while also making it enjoyable and entertaining.

McNellis is a really solid professor. The book is required for this class (B7) but don't buy it before the first class session because he may have a way to get it free. The class is very mathematical in mind. If you suck at math, get a tutor, you won't have an easy time without one. The class is almost 100% tests and quizzes, so be ready.

Professor Mcnellis had got to be one of the best professors on campus. He changed my life. He took the time to guide me to what my passion was. Ive never had a class like his. I was excited to go to class everyday and improve myself. He chose to teach here and I admire that. he could teach anywhere.

Were do I begin!!!! If I had the chance to retake this class, I will again! He is very passionate about his work and yes sometimes he gets a little side track but he is a philosopher that is what they do. There a paper for each study of religion and they are simple 1 to 2 page papers. Nothing difficult if you read the book and take good notes!

McNellis is an awesome professor, his passion for the subject made it interesting & fun to learn. I failed the class due to working two jobs at the time, but I am taking him again this Fall. He does get side tracked, but even then it's interesting. This man has a ton knowledge and really does a great job of enlightening his students.

Very dedicated professor, passionate about his subject and very knowledgeable. Usually has some form of online hw and very straightforward assignments. The lectures are def. a must to attend 90% of any test info will be from lectures clarifying and unpacking information from the book. Taken a few of his courses and plan to take more for sure.

This class was the hardest I have token so far. I think I would of rather took this class in a long semester not a summer class. it was a lot of work. I've taken McNellis for B7(logic) and B37(world religion). The material he teaches is hard, so the class is hard, but he is an amazing teacher and makes it easier to comprehend. He is a great teacher, always has something to say, has a hard time keeping on track or on time, never puts anything online so if you care about knowing what your grade is youre out of luck, takes a long time to grade things. Anyway this was a very easy class but people ask dumb questions so if youre are easily annoyed dont take it.

Quirky, funny, passionate professor. Actually looked forward to class. Great method of teaching. Fair grading. Willing to help. The whole semester was just a great experience. Professor is smart as heck. Highly recommend his course.

One of the best professors I've ever taken. He really cares about teaching, but he does tend to go off on stories. Lets you have a note card to take test with. Also if you get good grades on two out of the three tests then you don't have to take the third one.

Super easy online class for the summer semester, there were no deadlines and the HW is easy. The only struggle were the truth tables that I never did but it didnt matter I still got an A because I did everything else. Definitely recommend for easy A.

I cant say enough about how much i look forward to going to his class. I recommend him highly. I didnt do all the assignments because he is essay heavy but it didnt matte to me. I felt like i learned a lot about myself in taking the class. Take him. You will love it.

I didn't miss a class at all because it is so interesting and he makes class very entertaining. He is a real scholar. Please do yourself a favor and take him. You will have to buy the textbook because you work out of it. but you can always just make copies. He helps in every thing you need as long as you show you work hard and genuinely interested

It was an online course over the summer, felt like enough time to do all of the work. The only assignments with due dates were the exams, he expects you to do the assignments to prepare for them. Grade is decided by the 7 quizzes and 3 exams since he's such an easy grader on inserts and worksheets, you have multiple attempts. Won't answer email.

350 characters is not enough to put into words how amazing Prof. McNellis is. He is one of the most, if not the most influential professors I've ever had. He pours his heart and soul into every lecture. Feels like you are hanging out with your favorite uncle every class. He truly cares about his students and wants them to be successful.

If you actually want to learn about Philosophy, I do not recommend this online class. He posts all the assignments at the beginning of the semester and they're all due by a certain day. You can do the work whenever. Work is really easy however you won't know your grade until the last week of class. Easy A class.

Mr. McNellis is one of those professors you never forget. I loved going to his class and wow his eyes are something amazing. He truly cares about his students and I learned so much. He is truly knowledgable and inspiring. I have taken all his classes and can say you will learn a lot.

One of the easiest classes I have ever taken. The bad reviews I saw are right he doesn't respond to emails, but the material is super easy and you're pretty much by yourself in this class for the whole semester. I would definitely take this class for an easy A.

Love this guy! When you reach out for help, he is there. He is not bad on the eyes too. This always helps. I had problems with some of the assignments and he went out of his way to help me. I could have studied more but I had a good experience.

I've taken McNellis for logic and world religions. He is able to teach the hard material because he is an amazing teacher. Helps you really understand the material. Definitely he is in my top 5 prof's at BC. Also, he is insanely passionate about his subjects and his students. He is very willing to help students out.

Prof M was amazing. He answered all my questions even though I had really simple ones and he was so nice and helpful. Professor McNellis is AMAZING! Took this class as a requirement for my degree and was somewhat dreading it due to peers telling me that Philosophy is difficult. However, Professor M made it so easy and his videos made the material understandable. If I could, I'd take all of my classes with Professor M! He cares about his students & helpful!

No papers, Quizzes, tests, videos and assignments that need to be done with your access code. He does not give out extra credit, your extra credit is your assignments online that you do. He gives you credit for doing the work. The material has to be seen as puzzles in order to understand what is being taught. It gets fun afterward.

Amazing professor! Had some problems at first but he was very understanding and helpful. He has zoom office hours which was very helpful. Would take again absolutely. My interactions with him were very nice, helpful and professional.

Honestly, if he didnt have zoom office hours, I would have had a difficult time passing. He is really helpful if you reach out to him. I took the online course which he said in the beginning we should take it in person but with his help I was able to do well. Thank you Mr. Mcnellis. You helped me alot.

I really thing you would love this guy. He cares about his students and he loves to talk about religion. I felt comfortable and excited to go to class. You will like him. I felt he prepared me a lot before each exam.

I really enjoyed professor McNellis. Classes and lectures were always fun and engaging. He does issue a lot of readings but they aren't difficult. As long as you paid attention and took notes he did a good job at preparing you for the papers. I took him for Intro to logic as well because of how much I enjoyed him.

My advice to you is to make friends as a study group and don't need a proctor for exams. Mr. McNellis is a straightforward person and expects you to learn basic concepts while giving you an opportunity to display logical problems and arguments. Also, you can use your notes and textbook for quizzes and exams. Excellent class and I had a lot of fun.

This class was my favorite. He makes the class fun, expects participation but takes the time to explain the material if someone is confused. If you read, like you're supposed to, attend class and take notes you will have no problem. He loves what he does, it shows. I attempted this course with another professor and didn't get it, McNellis is great

I took his 8 week Online Intro to Logic course. Honestly I thought the professor was great. I mean he teaches this course with old material, he sends generic emails that are recycled, does not bug you. The course is set to automatically run its course, you have to self teach yourself, it's an online class made for that. I passed his class with an A

VERY hard class. This class was more math than philosophy, however, he made it very easy to learn and as long as you apply yourself it isn't too bad. Always throws in a few freebie questions on tests. He is clearly passionate about the subject and tries his best to encourage you. Only rated a 4 because we didn't interact much but that's more on me.

Loved Dr. McNellis. He helped me so much when I reached out to him. Thank you. His video lectures were very helpful and his weekly updates outlined what we needed to focus on. You will enjoy his class even though it is pretty tough.

Prof M was great! He answered all my questions and when I reached out to meet him for explanations, he always was understanding and made the time for me. Thank you. Highly recommend. But do email him to ask for help when you need it.

One of the more challenging philosophy courses, but the professor breaks down the material well. Engaging lectures and a helpful textbook. unstuck study ai was a game-changer for exam prep.

Mr. McNellis is the best and most loved! Coming to class at 9:30 was worthwhile. Every lecture was meaningful and inspirational. He encouraged us to be the best we can be and pushed us to work hard. I took this class before with another professor and struggled, but McNellis made everything clear. He's passionate, engaging, and takes time to explain confusing material. If you read, attend, and take notes, you'll do well. His energy and care for students make this class one of the best I've taken. I highly recommend taking it with him.
