Mr. M is an awesome professor. He makes class so much fun you actually want to go. He takes off a lot of the pressure normally associated with writing classes. So work with little to no stress!! He gives good advice and is always able to give each student positive feedback on their work. Also, he loves advice from students. ..
He is the HOTTEST professor i know.. If he was ever single i would love to go out with him but its against the teacher/student rule or something.. but he is soo funny and i like that kind of guy.. and a very nice professor.
Class was great, doing papers was not stressful at all, a lot of revisions and he gives really good advice to be a better writer. The project is fun, and he is a very funny teacher as well. take him as a teacher, u wont want to miss class, cuz he is HOT!! =p
Amazing Professor. If you get a chance to take him, I highly recommend it. The class is very relaxed and low key. The readings, although a lot at times, are interesting. Papers aren't bad. He really wants to see you succeed and take something away from the course, so he helps if he can. If you put forth effort and he sees that, you'll do just fine.
By far one of the most influential english teachers. He makes writing fun and interesting. Always willing to help and truly cares about his students. For those of you who dread finals, there isn't one.
This one was of my favorite courses. Rarely does a class and Prof. challenge my views and keeps me thinking once out of the classroom. The class has a slight work load but MM helps you with anything you need assitance with. He definitely earns all the chili peppers!!! I would totally recommend this course to anyone, english major or not.
After that class I couldn't help but give him chili peppers. Thanks Michael.
The best english teacher i have had in a long time. you can tell he really cares about what he does. very influential. helps SO much with writing. i definitely would recommend this class whether or not you need it. A+!!
Great Guy! very understandable. Knows his stuff. Love that we have discussion
I went to this class without any interest in english... now i'm an english major... Greatest of guys
Great Professor, I have learned so much from this class. He is not as easy as people say, you must attend the class and finish your work.
Meinhardt is definitely one of the most respectable and knowledgeable professors at Loyola. He is extremely helpful considerate of your time. He respects you and is flexible if you have personal issues. He is not the easiest professor, thought. The work load is a bit much but you WILL NOT regret taking him. He is awesome!!
I hated this class, way too much work when compared to other teachers teaching the SAME course. 1 page papers are constantly due and the final research paper is at least 2 pages longer than any other professor. Out of my class of 17, 3 people DROPPED the class to take it with someone else next semester! AVOID!
He really cares about the success of his students. I don't know what this kid under me is talking about yes the guy assigns a lot of work but he gives you unreal amounts of extra time to finish stuff. Takes all kinds of late work and will let you revise anything as many times as you want. Revise at least once and cant get less than a B+ on a paper.
Prof M genuinely cares about what he is teaching. He does assign a lot of work at the beginning of the semester but it prepares u really well for the final paper. Really fun to talk to and office hrs are helpful. my writing improved so much because of him. not easy but highly recommended!
The workload at the beginning makes you roll your eyes a lot, however he is an easy grader and you can revise revise revise for the grade you want. He's my new mentor, my fave professor at LUC. Take him, well worth your time.
He is a nice guy and an easy grader, but he is a teacher who does not care about grade. He says that grades shouldn't be a big deal, what you learn is more important. While this is true, GPA does matter. I would recommend him even though his class is not easy due to the workload, but do not be disapponinted if you don't get the A in the class.
Amazing, inspirational, dedicated. He really just wants you to learn. one 2-3 page critical response weekly, tutoring, group project, and random reflections. EASY CLASS
I absolutely loved Dr. Meinhardt. I've always been a writer, and the way that he disected college writing for me really did change the way I wrote for the better. Not only was he a fantastic professor, but he also helped me with things that weren't relative to his class. Definitely a great guy.
Seriously one of the most inspirational people I've ever met. Not one discussion from this class was boring or irrelevant. We had a loose outline for discussion but it was mostly what we wanted to talk about. Write-ups were pretty easy, mostly reflection based analysis. Best class I've taken at Loyola yet.
I would definitely recommend this class, you get a lot of good experience. Sometimes it can feel like you are doing a lot of work (at least one paper due a week) but it's not too strenuous and he's an easy grader. He's unclear on some assignments, so just go ask him for clarification. Meinhardt is a really approachable and interesting guy. Take him
If you take this class and are willing to learn something from it then you will. If you don't want to work, and you don't care about your writing, then there are easier UCWR teachers out there. He's a great guy that pushes you to think differently about papers, writing and school.
LOVED this class! My writing improved SO much because of him & i will forever be thankful. Kind of a lot of work, but its worth it! Explains ways to write better and is so helpful! He is very straight forward, down to earth and is super smart! TAKE THIS CLASS!
This class is not hard and it really improves your writting. No tests or quizes, only papers. If you do bad on a paper he lets you re-do it until you get a good grade!
Very interesting and helpful. Highly reccomend if you want to explore your writing and learn new ways to express yourself.
I came into this class with what I thought to be amazing writing skills. Meinhardt reduced my ego to a speck and then built it right back properly. I've learned so much in his class. It is definitely not easy (paper due almost every week), but very interesting with lots of discussion. 5 writing assignments, graded on improvement and effort.
One of the best professors I have ever had! Very funny guy! Most of the classes were discussion based and interactive. Not an easy grader. He will literally push you to your limit. WORK consistently, MEET him during office hours, he gives VALUABLE feedback, tons of opportunities for revisions. Very encouraging. I highly recommend taking him.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! At the beginning of the semester he told us we would change as writers I didn't believe him but I have! He taught me so much! He let's you continually revise your papers until you're happy with your grade. There is a lot of writing but in the end, it's totally worth it. TAKE HIM!
The workload of his class is way much more than other professors, but he is great at what he does. He allows multiple revisions until you get the grade you want and improves your writing a lot. Just be prepared to put in time and effort.
Awesome professor! Allows rewrites on every paper. Very helpful and gives clear feedback. You can see that he really wants his students to do well. UCWR is not a fun course, but this teacher makes it a whole lot better. Oh and he's a total stud.
I came into this class thinking it would be a waste of time since I was already a good writer but Meinhardt taught me new ways to make writing easier and actually a little fun. He's super nice and very helpful too. Workload is intense but COMPLETELY worth it. Take this guy for UCWR he's by far the best one out there.
A very funny guy, he makes class very fun and interesting. He does require a lot of thought into each paper and the only busy work is the mandatory work for the class. The best part is that the final research paper can be about any topic, so you will genuinely have an interest in the final paper instead of BS'ing it.
Really awesome professor. Makes class interesting. Allowed 5 absences before it affects your grade. Not a super hard grader. If you put in the effort, you can do well. A lot of work though. Pretty much have papers or essays due every week The final paper is the research paper. 10 pages and a lot of work but not too bad. Overall a good UCWR class.
He is a great professor, and his class definitely helped me become a better writer. I never thought I would get an A in this class because I got B's in the beginning of the semester. But surprisingly I did get an A because he grades based on improvement. There is a lot of work, but he teaches you how to do them easily.
Great guy, great professor, great person overall. Only thing that sucked about his class is that he really dings you if you miss class. If you don't wanna have to go to class then don't take him. Absences will KILL YOU, whether for work or a family matter. No excuses are taken.
He's a really cool guy, and the class is not incredibly hard. However, he isn't too clear on what he wants which is super frustrating. If you are only looking for a grade, do not take this class
He's a cool guy and the class is really interesting. He never tells you what he wants and it can be a struggle figuring it out. But his class is definitely worth it!
His lectures are inspirational and the assignments show a room for improvement.
Dr. Meinhardt is my favorite professor, hands down! His classes are inspiring and he truly cares about the wellbeing and growth of his students. He has a unique approach to writing. I hated writing until I took this class..I saw great improvement in my personal writing skills during the semester! Great professor, great guy!! Take his class (:
Dr. Meinhardt is a great professor. He's not clear about what he wants, but the reason for it is bc he wants you to think for yourself. You get to choose what you write about for the 5 writing projects. There is a 10-12p research paper at the end, but Dr Meinhardt really wants you to do well on it. And he cares more about improvement then the grade
This is a class about life-NOT writing. Teaches you life lessons, not how to write. If you were to turn in in a paper the way he wants you to write to any other professor for class, you would get an F. DO NOT take if you truly want to become a better writer. His tactics are not realistic in regards to real college writing/papers.
It really depends with the student for this teacher. If you are willing to take the class seriously, I think it is a very simple class. Professor Meinhardt was very helpful and willing to make me a better writer. This is a must take class for any business writer and I personally feel that I took away a great deal from his course.
Best Professor I have had thus far. He makes you want to care about the case and is super flexible. Does not like Marshmallows!!
This was my first college professor and I hope that all of my professors are like him!!!
TAKE HIM. HE WILL CHANGE THE WAY YOU THINK. So much more than a writing class. There's a lot of work in this class. This class pushes you, but I promise it is worth is. He is such an amazing professor and only wants the best for his students. TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE.
Meinhardt is by far my favorite professor at Loyola. I have such high respect for him & his teaching. Every assignment you do is relevant for you to better yourself as a person,(& not just in your writing). More professors should strive to be as helpful and passionate about their students as Meinhardt is. He will change your outlook on everything.
Major respect for this man. He remains to be my favorite professor I have had Loyola so far. Lots of work in the start of the semester, but it makes you so much better of a writer. He's extremely helpful and laid back. He respects your opinions and encourages you to create your own powerful voice in your work. Highly recommend.
He is by far my favorite teacher I have ever had. He really wants you to become a great writer and pushes you. I have so much respect for him! I definitely plan on taking more classes with him. I thoroughly enjoyed his class.
Dr. Meinhardt is by far the best (and my favorite) instructor I've taken at Loyola. He really cares about making his students better writers. This course(ENGL 210)is not difficult but helpful to improve professional writing in the workplace. I highly recommend taking him for this course and other courses he teaches (You will not regret it).
Dr. Meinhardt has to be the best teacher I've ever had. He really cares about how you do and he honestly wants you to become a good writer. He also understand that you're a student and you have other obligations, so he's lenient if you don't get a paper down on time.
Super nice and funny. Best attribute: extremely encouraging. If you're like me, English classes get you down bc your grades say you can't write well. He encourages everything that comes out of your mouth and pushes you to do better. Gained so much, not just writing skills. Loved this class, loved Dr. Meinhardt, TAKE FOR ANY CLASSES! Just awesome!
Def. recommend. His class is extremely easy if you actually do the work and pay attention. Don't skip out on his lectures. His lectures give insight into what he looks for and gives valuable review to what you need to do to actually become a better writer. The only way to do semi-bad in this class is to simply be lazy and forget the assignments.
He is honestly one of the best professors I had my freshman year of college. Take him. You won't regret it.
Favorite professor at this school. He truly cares about each one of his students, especially the ones he sees are interestedtrying in the course. He respects all writing styles and opinions, and gives great feedback. I found myself growing as a writer. More a class on life lessons than english. Very down to earth. HIGHLY recommend!!!
Awesome guy! Tells great stories and genuinely wants all of his students to learn how to write well! 100% recommended, but it is not an easy A. If you go to his office hours, he will go the extra mile to help you.
Meinhardt is a great professor, who really wants you to do well. The class is relatively easy, just do the assignments on time. He really makes you think about your life, and evaluate yourself in a critical way. He wants to see improvement, and passion for the topics you write about. Helps outside of class and really listens to you
He is the best professor I have ever had at Loyola. I was in his poetry class and he got me interested in it overall. I just took the class for an Art credit, but he really taught me how awesome writing poetry can be. I hope to have him again.
Awesome and super helpful. Definitely create a strong relationship with him because you'll want it later!
One of the finest professors at Loyola. He would help out and give good feedback on what you need to do in order to improve your paper. Lectures are enjoyable and funny at times. Would take again.
He is arguably one of the best professors that Loyola has to offer. What he wants is pretty clear; and if you are having trouble it is easy to approach him. His lectures are actually fun and he keeps the class engaged. He will allow you to revise your papers until you are satisfied with the grade.
He is one of the most confusing professors I've ever had. I would say AVOID.
Arguably one of the best Professors at Loyola. He is absolutely hilarious. He inspires students to write with their own voices. His lectures are not only for writing but for thinking as well. He pushes students to meet their full potential. Definitely will try to take another class of his!
Professor Meinhardt is a very good professor. I didn't like his classes at the beginning, then I began to enjoy his style and class a lot. As an international student, I improved so much in academic writing thanks to Professor Meinhardt. As long as you try hard to learn and communicate with him after class, UCWR110 is easy and enjoyable.
This class was an easy A! I recommend Meinhardt to anyone taking UCWR110! He's such a good and funny professor. It's easy to get advice or help from. He tends to call on anyone randomly to answer questions or share your progress on projects. But he always is willing to help you improve and succeed in this class!
Meinhardt is a funny, smart, and easy going guy. He really wants every student to grow as a writer and is more than willing to help in this process. This class also expresses how to also become a better person. Theres a lot do writing in this class obvi but he allows for multiple rewrites. It's and easy class and a good professor overall!!
Meinhardt tries to do too much in class. He tries to change his student's lives, which is honorable, but really not necessary for a core, mandatory writing class. 5 writing projects with 5 forced revisions. Also, about 5 critical responses on 5 articles you need to read.
I thought I would hate this jterm class but he was so wise and spent a alot of class time talking about life skills and had really interactive lectures. I actually learned a lot about fiction writing in his class. His feedback on your stories was critical but necessary. I highly recommend his jterm class writing fiction! he makes it so fun.
Really cool guy. Allowed revisions on everything. Kept my attention and was entertaining. I'd take him again.
I went into this class wanting to hate it, because I hate writing. Prof. Meinhardt made this an enjoyable class and I still don't like writing, but I'm definitely more comfortable with it.
Professor Meinhardt is the real deal! He breaks down what initially appear to be difficult writing projects into meaningful and manageable tasks. Hw: short readings and 1-pg essays. Simply show up ready to learn and to participate in class, and you will soon realize that he's helping you become a more confident researcher and writer. 10/10 TAKE HIM
Professor Meinhardt is the best, funny and makes class worth going to. Also, so helpful with getting prepared to leave Loyola and making sure the resume/cover letter look good.
Coming into this class I absolutely hated writing. In high school, my teachers always gave me bad grades and I had no idea what to do. Professor Meinhardt helped me a lot and I encourage anyone like me to take his class. He teaches you so much on improving your writing.
Hands down BEST professor at Loyola. I would take him again in a heartbeat. He is the most inspirational person, almost like a second dad. He is so funny and you will NOT be bored in his class. Through it all, I became a better writer. If you even get the option to take him, do it. Do not consider ANYONE else.
He is the best teacher I have had at Loyola. He has his students do a lot of work, but it is all worthwhile and easy to get a good grade. He is also well known among people on campus and can write excellent recommendation letters.
Meinhardt is a great teacher. I came into this class ready to be miserable everyday because I hated writing in high school, but his lectures are very interesting and he lets you do revisions on anything as long as you'll do the work. He's easy going and an extremely wise man. Would definitely recommend him.
Amazing professor. He cuts the bs and gets straight to the real world application that you actually need as a college student. Let's you redo work until it's something you would present in the professional world. I learned a lot about writing and business in general. Useful writing intensive if you need one.
BEST professor I have had so far. Meinhardt is so caring, he will grade your paper knowing you personally and knowing how you have grown throughout the class. He makes sure you are getting what you're in class for, and you will never leave unsatisfied. Though the material may be dry at times, he makes participation and involvement worth it!
Meinhardt is really great. If you aren't happy with a grade on an assignment he allows you to re-submit. 5 assignments for the semester with a few little things for homework. Your writing will definitely improve, and you will learn other neat, random facts!
Meinhardt (as cliché as this sounds) changed my life. His class not only provide writing techniques but life lessons too. He focuses on your own voice and thoughts as a writer.
A wonderful professor! Yes his class is a lot of work compared to the other UCWR classes, but you actually learn how to write well and improve as a writer. He is a fairly easy grader and is always there to help out. You can resubmit all of your big assignments until you're happy with your grade. He also makes class really fun and it's never boring.
You need to put in the effort if you want to benefit from this class. He's my favorite professor I've taken at Loyola. He will change the way you think about writing and help you grow. Writing is IMPORTANT in college. HIGHLY RECOMMEND you take his class. He's a funny, understanding guy and lets you resubmit all your assignments.
Mr. Meinhardt spent most of his classes talking about the ways he wants us to do his projects. Other teachers rarely ever go into as much detail as him. His projects were designed though so that you could have total control of your time and direction. I didn't like Loyola too much but this was one of the best overall teachers I've known.
One of the best writing classes I have ever taken. Meinhardt makes it clear to students that he really wants you to succeed and he pushes you at your own level.
He is a great professor and a great guy. If you go in hating writing and anything to do with it, you will leave with at least a tolerance for it. He makes the course very bearable with great lectures, jokes, and interactions with the students. This is the kind of professor you will always remember if you take, and will randomly thing about.
Dope professor, made the class fun, allows revisions for higher grade. Overall a pretty easy class.
Hands down the best professor I've had at Loyola. You will learn far more than what is on the syllabus. Also, total babe.
This was a great class! I took it over the summer and he gave us a lot of time to work on assignments in class. The work is not too bad, and he gives you the chance to correct all graded assignments. The group project at the end was very fun and actually helpful. I would defiantly recommend him as a professor.
Great man, once you get past the"I worked on my resume for so long! Who are you to tell me that it needs work?!" phase; You will realize that he has some great points and you will love the way he improves your writing skills. He can be a little hard headed sometimes but I think that comes with military background and Phd. To wrap up; Big thumbs up!
Fun and easy going professor that shows you how to express yourself in your writing in a professional way. I would take this class again if i had to or even just for fun.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! Took this class as an online J-term. Best decision ever. Easy A if you just try and do all the homework. He is so funny and a great professor. A lot of writing involved in this class, but its only 9 days, so that's a bonus. Only real homework were the papers and writing down fiction vocab. Take this fun class for a GPA boost.
If you wanna spend almost all of your time writing papers, this class is perfect for you. This man assigned us just an unnecessary amount of papers throughout the semester. He doesn't give you any prompts and is extremely picky. Basically, he says "idc what you write, do whatever," but then you "do whatever" and he doesn't like it, like tf?
First of all, Meinhardt is HOT!!!! Also, I really liked his class. He lets you revise for a better grade and is really clear in what he wants. Take him, you won't regret it
If you don't got to this class, which you can only miss twice anyway, you will not be successful. Nothing he says is written anywhere, which isn't necessarily bad, just pay attention. You do learn a lot in this class and there is a lot of homework. He is passionate about teaching you how to better yourself and to then better the community.
Great guy. Actually wants you to succeed and become a better student/person. Just a lot of work, kind of felt like I was an English major sometimes tbh
Really great teacher, super inspirational and funny. He put in a lot of effort to make sure his students improve as writers and makes you really think outside the box. This is the first class that I took where I can say I loved despite the difficulty. It was stressful but you have the chance to improve past papers which is nice.
Like this teacher. Would like to take again his other class in the future.
AMAZING professor for English. Hes hilarious and expects a lot from you but will teach you a ton. If you have the chance to take him for any class, do it. You wont regret it.
Awesome professor. Allows you to resubmit any assignment because he cares if you learn the material more than the grade itself. I learned a ton in this class and a very easy A. Very personable and helpful during office hours. Improved my writing a ton.
Amazing teacher that personally cares about his class. Always accessible to workshop papers and provides helpful and actionable feedback.
I absolutely hated writing but Dr. Meinhardt made it fun. You will have a LOT more work than all of the other UCWR classes (he clarifies this on the first day), but your writing will definitely improve (plus he gives chances to redo work if you're unhappy with your grade ). Amazing professor, would take this class again.
His writing classes are very helpful, my essay quality became so much better over the course of the semester. Yes, he gives out a LOT of homework (on the first day of class, he makes this very clear), but I think in the end it was worth it. He is very approachable and easy to talk to, I would def recommend this class.
Meinhardt is the coolest. I have not had much experience with writing, but he was always there to help and his passion shows. You may struggle in this class as a writer, but don't be afraid to go to him! I also didn't have to put too much time into this class, there are 5 writing assignments. Gives a lot of feedback, most kids end up with an A!
Best teacher I've had at Loyola. Had him for UCWR my freshman year and then took him again for his business writing class. He gives a lot of short writing assignments that are pretty easy and he lets you correct them as many times as you want. Teaches a lot more than just writing. Great teacher all around!
Dr. M is amazing. Came into class a terrible writer and honestly, now i can write great essays in a couple hours! Strong grader, assigns lots of hw first month but it really preps you for the final research paper, you literally have only a few pages to write for it. DEF take if you want to develop your writing skills and get a good grade! Great man
the best english teacher i have ever had. such an inspirational guy. if you want an A, it is not hard to get, just do the hw and listen to his format.
This man is AMAZING. He assigns a lot of homework at the beginning of year but it is preparing you for the final essay. He gives lots of really good feedback and on all the essays he gives you the chance to revise it to an A level! Also, he tells us so many funny stories of his life and he is super chill! 10/10 take him. he is hard but so worth it
He is AMAZING. He does assign a lot of writing homework, but it helped me improve so much as a writer. He gives great feedback and lets you edit your assignments until you get the grade you want. There is a lot of peer-editing in this class. He is hilarious and also shares good life wisdom. TAKE HIM FOR THIS CLASS, you won't regret it!!!
he does assign a lot more work than most ucwr course however he is awesome, really makes you think outside the box about everything and you truly improve as a writer, he gives great feedback and helps you see your own mistakes, i would recommend him 100%
If you aren't open minded, he will not be a good prof for you. That being said, this man taught me so much. He is teaching for the benefit of the students. Use his brain, it'll really help. Work load isn't crazy, I'm usually a slacker but this class was something i didn't mind working for.
If you want to be prepared for future college papers, Meinhardt is THE MAN to teach you.
If you want to learn to write the CORRECT WAY, he is THE MAN to teach you. Be ready to rewrite multiple times to make improvements. All he wants is to see his students improve and do their best. I feel SO SO SO much more prepared for future college essays.
I disagree with how high the ratings are. On one of my papers, he didn't even leave a grade and only criticized my opinions on the topic, instead of my writing. While he can be cool at times, any time a professor forces their views on students it reflects poorly. Also there was quite a bit of homework, some of which was not necessary
3 writing projects based off of chapters in a book and then a 10-page research paper. Sounds spine-tingling but it isn't bad. Write about whatever you want as long as it's not completely irrelevant and you'll be fine. An ungodly amount of writing though.
He's an amazing professor who wants everyone to succeed. Yeah there's tons of papers, but you can correct your papers until you get the grade you want which is really nice. We also spent almost 2-3 weeks editing our final paper in class which was nice.
my favorite professor at Loyola. he's amazing. really opens your eyes to the real world and makes you a much better writer in the process. cares so much about his students, and so unbelievably knowledgeable. his class has a lot of writing, but it all pays off. I highly highly recommend him. you can revise all papers as many times as you want to
This guy deserve a 5 rating, by far the best prof at Loyola. a lot of writing but you can revise it until you get an A. he cares a lot, no boring classes, and truly life changing. Grades you on growth and improvement and helps you find yourself. you'll hate the class at first but it'll be your favorite one by the end of the semester. take him!
One of the best classes I've taken at Loyola. He's super passionate about the subject but makes it digestible for someone just taking the class to satisfy a requirement. Really great teacher, left class feeling inspired every lecture. He made an online class really engaging and fun to participate in.
It can be very unclear for what he is asking, which can be very frustrating. He talks A LOT, especially when analyzing something. SOoO much homework at times. And he seems very passive-aggressive. BUT: revise your paper as many times until you get an A, very straightforward and gives good feedback towards confusion. In the end, he cares!
Meinhardt is extreme attractive periodt besides that he will also improve your writing and give you an easy A which I guess is also a plus.
He's an amazing professor who wants you to succeed and not get caught up with the grades. The amount of homework can be daunting at first glance, but they're very doable. There's tons of writing but you have autonomy on what to write for the most part. You're more likely to get a lower grade from skipping class often than a crappy paper.
Professor Meinhardt allows you to correct your papers to improve your grade. He is quite demanding with the work load. 1 page reflection on the reading is due every class for the beginning of the semester. Then four 3-5 pages papers and a 10-page paper final. He is very opinionated and brings politics into the classroom. Fair grader. Worth taking.
Professor Reinhardt is a absolute legend. He is one of the most reputed writing professors in the English department. For UCWR, he has 5 assignments. Starting out with a page to a 10-page final paper (don't worry you work on it for a month or so with lots of feedback from himself) Taking his class as a freshman helped, so I would tell you take him!
This is one of the best professors at Loyola. No matter major taking one of his courses will make you better thinker. If you can have the opportunity to take ENGL 293 (Advanced Competition) with him DO IT. He won't give you a bad grade if you show up and simply try. He teaches essential skills and WILL improve your writing. Gorgeous.
Probably one of the best professors I've had so far at Loyola. I would definitely take him again if I could. His stories are really funny. Like no joke, I laughed out loud when listening to them.
this class makes you want to become a writer and write in cafes across the world also doesn't bs with unnecessary info but teaches you valuable lessons
Honestly just a really good teacher. Once you can get past his confusing instructions, he gives you incredibly useful information not only for your academic career but for your professional one too. He can sometimes come off as a bit arrogant, but I promise you will end up loving him.
The requirements and expectations were very clearly laid out which made the course super easy. We wrote 2-4 poems a week, eight 1-2 page reflections, midterm paper, and a poem portfolio at the end. This course was WI, as long as you show up to class, complete the assignments, and are prepared to be called on, you will get an A.
I'm not sure why everyone has given him such a good rating. There is quite a bit of writing, I heard that we had to do more papers than the other UCWR classes. His teaching is a bit intense and it makes him come off very intimidating. He also embarrassed me multiple times in front of the class. NOT a fan of this guy.
I don't really understand why he has such great reviews. He comes off as very condescending and is very intense which did not really help my confidence when it comes to writing or my peers. However, he does allow for you to resubmit assignments until you get a good grade and that is helpful. Still, I do not plan on taking him again.
Professor Meinhardt really does care about his students becoming better writers. There are 5 main writing projects and he's very clear on what he expects and lets you revise until you get an A. The only think is the workload is a little much because he assigns reading and small writing assignments for every class. Great guy!
Coolest guy ever. Being a fun teacher online is so hard and he still made it fun for the students. I actually learned so much in his class and I will literally never forget this guy. Gives a lot of work but he actually cares and actually teaches. Please take this man hes the best.
Intimidating, a bit arrogant, but I guess he has to be to get you to keep working in this class! He cares about his students, genuinely wants to help us be confident and succeed. Produces a great lesson each class but he maintains a chill class environment so students can be less tense. Funny and a very nice guy - just be ready to write a lot!
I miss this class so much. I'm in ENGL293 now, and as I type this, I am pulling out my notes from this class to help me with writing an essay. He made me such a good writer and thinker. Please take his class.
This professor is nightmare. He has graded several of my papers with comments that do not apply to my work. He either meant to put the comments on someone else's paper, or didn't read my paper to begin with. He'll act as if he is a very sympathetic and empathetic person, however, he will humiliate you in class in front of all your peers.
Professor Meinhardt is a very wise professor who teaches you life lessons and how to be a more intelligent person in the world. I really enjoyed his lectures but some of the cons of this class is that it's more work than i intended it to be and he grades harshly. However, he allows for tons of revisions and is pretty flexible with deadlines.
Meinhardt's UCWR class was super hard in the first half of the semester because he assigned a reading summary that you had to do before each class. Later when you work on your final writing projects he chills out. The class was hard in the beginning but he's one of the most inspirational teachers I've had.
Meinhardt is a rockstar. This is my 2nd time taking one of his courses & I do not regret. ENGL 318 is a writing of fiction course that covers upper level English requirement, as well as Art. If you enjoy reading or writing short fiction, it's a blast. Grades are based on improvement and in class workshops - impossible to not get an A!
Best prof ever. hilarious. real. straight up. His lessons are really interesting and he does more than just teach you how to be a better writer. His creative writing class was hard because writing itself is hard but if you love writing then I highly recommend taking him. grades based on the effort you put into the work and not the talent. take him
Professor Meinhardt is great, not only as a teacher but as a person. His classes are informative and often entertaining. Yes, you have to write a lot, but you will seriously learn to be a better writer, and as long as you show you're putting in real effort, you'll get an A.
Prof. Meinhardt is an AMAZING professor, he talked about real stuff and honestly changed the way I write and even think now. If you are just trying to get UCWR core credit, do not pick him! I was just trying to get this credit out of the way, but it ended up being more stressful than my major-based classes. Get a easier professor to get the credit.
Other professors would have been easier for this course, I am happy that I took Prof. Meinhardt's class because he truly changed the way I think and write through pushing me to think harder and asking WHY. If you want to put in the work improve and like to write, I would take him. Definitely not for everyone though!
Meinhardt's class was probably double the workload of the rest of my classes. Amazing professor though, I learned a huge amount. Highly recommend, but get ready to write!!!
You will definitely have a lot of homework, but when you get better at writing the one page analyses it doesn't feel like a lot. The projects are fun to write, and you get to choose subjects you're passionate and excited to write about. At first I felt overwhelmed but this class was awesome!! Lectures are engaging, he wants the best for students.
He is the most unorganized professor i've ever had a loyola. If you are deciding between him and axelrod, take axelrod. He is condescending and does not foster class discussion.
For being a core, this class was horrible because of this prof. He gave excessive amounts of work compared to the other UCWR professors. On the way to his class I would sometime stop in the middle of the road and wait, but unfortunately I would always make it to his class. He made us print every single we ever wrote, and he called students out.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU WON'T PUT IN THE WORK! The beginning of the semester was overwhelming at first. However, the writing assignments soon became very easy to complete. There's a review saying he is racist. As a minority student, that can not be further from the truth. He will give you feedback on your writing and treat you with respect.
Dr. Meinhardt is a great writing professor in my opinion, he gives good feedback, is very straightforward with what he expects from you and challenges you to think outside of what you would do for a paper. You do critical responses, and 5 writing projects.
Meinhardt is one of the hardest professors I've had but it's because he wants to challenge his students. If you don't care about the class, you'll hate him. If you really want to become a better writer and push yourself, he is well worth the time.
I do not understand at all how this professor has so many great ratings, i did stick it out and finish the class but it is completely unnessicary how he talks to some students and he really shouldnt teach if all he wants is to bring students down
Great professor, cares a lot about his students. Get ready to write. Chili peppers.
Prof. Meinhardt was a very good professor. If you take this course just know you will be writing a TON in the beginning, but the last couple months gets a lot better, and you will come to realize this English class is the best because he lets you re-do your papers until you have full credit. Funny prof who deserves some chili peppers!!
when I started this course I was immediately yelled at in front of the whole class because I could not find and access the correct book. He was very harsh towards me and until I broke down in front of him (in a zoom meeting) did he ease up on me slightly. This class is very serious and requires hard work. (3 years later and still worst professor)
Words can not explain the issues I have with this professor. He is incredibly out of touch and is too busy boosting his ego to teach how to write. If you struggled to write in high school, avoid this prof with your life. Instead of teaching writing, he spends class time speaking over minorities and rambling about how white men control everything.
If you follow the syllabus, it'll be clear what needs to be done. He's lenient on work however you'll get essays every day so it's in your best interest not to fall behind especially when it's near the end of the semester. I recommend this teacher if you want to grow as an individual inside and outside the classroom. He values differing opinions !
Awesome professor. Super funny and makes learning poetry very enjoyable. Take him, you won't be disappointing.
The most egotistical professor I have ever had. Would not recommend.
The homework is so vague, and it angers me so much. Like does he want us to write the full rough draft or just the intro paragraph. You won't know until you get to class.
So much work, assignments are not clear, and lectures are confusing. Prof. Meinhardt will not tell you what he wants, only what he does not want to see. I would greatly caution against this professor. I know that I am not the only person who feels this way.
Do not come to this class thinking it will be easy. He truly made me a better writer. Just stay on top of your work and apply his feedback and you should be able to succeed. Don't let the first few weeks scare you!
Although this course is very intense and intimidating in the beginning, Dr. Meinhardt truly cares about writing and wants you to succeed in the end. As long as you put in the work, you will do well. Also, give him chili peppers!!
Prof Meinhardt is so funny, very knowledgable about the world, and such an understanding person. He is the first prof I've ever had that actually means it when he says mental health is more important than school. There's a LOT of writing and sometimes it's stressful, but you seriously will be a faster and better writer. also, SO MANY CHILI PEPPERS!
Honest review, easy A. Lots of work to do but he provides great feedback to get an A and lots of opportunity to get an A. However, all of his assignments lack any written instructions, no written grading scales, no formal due dates. Very disorganized class which is frustrating but semi realistic to work environments. Overall, great guy and easy A
Honestly some people say that he is vague and doesn't give proper corrections, but if you just talk to the guy he actually gives good advice and helps you a lot, also mention Ratemyprofessor chilipeppers to him.
I mean it is a writing class..so you will have to write, but it honestly wasn't too bad. He supports rmp so this is the only reason why I'm writing this. In the beginning there was a lot of reading(just articles) and one paper responses but after the two month mark it cooled down significantly. He is a cool person I guess (no textbook+takes latew.)
Professor Meinhardt was amazing! I learned so much in this class. No textbook needed, great revisions and constructed criticisms, and very kind since he gives us more than a lot of times to get assignments done. You are guaranteed an A+ in this class as long as you do the work, overall a phenomenal and kind professor. SO MANY CHILLI PEPPERS!!!!!!
His class was genuinely great. He is one of the few professors I have actually learned something from. Lots of work, especially in the beginning of the year, but I promise you will be fine if you actually do it. Chili peppers
You never know what he wants from you. Homework is frustratingly vague, and he will not answer questions you may have. Insane workload compared to other UCWR classes. This class is supposed to prepare you for college writing, but I guarantee you will never apply what he teaches in an academic setting.
Meinhardt is my favorite professor. He cares about his students and deliberately prioritizes making better writers. His assignments are out of the ordinary and can seem vague but he knows this and wants to see the direction you take it. Crazy insightful lectures, don't skip. It's a hard class, but it is the best way to take UCWR. TAKE HIM IF U CAN!
If you are willing to be a good student and do your work, this is a great class to learn and develop both as a writer and as a person. There are also lots of hot chili peppers.
Meinhardt is such an amazing prof. He really cares about his students and their success; he will do anything in his power to make sure that you succeed in this class. It is definitely a lot of work and overwhelming at times, but he is very understanding and is willing to always be flexible.
I'm not going to lie, I hated this class at first. Be open about learning new things and be ready to have your writing picked apart. Have an open mind and a be willing to learn new things! Michael was an amazing professor. He was funny, yet knew when to be serious. His critiques are super helpful. Michael, you deserve all of the chill peppers.
He was amazing. If you want to learn life lessons and writing lessons, take this class for the betterment of your life. All the chili peppers to him :D
Absolutely loved him so much! Right from the start he talks about the assignments he will give throughout the semester and none are too much to do. This is a writing class so of course expect to write, BUT it is ALWAYS interesting. never a dull day in class TAKE HIM you won't regret! also he deserves A LOT OF CHILI PEPPERS, trust you won't regret
Loved this professor he truly cares about his students. I learned a lot but there is a decent amount of homework compared to other UCWR classes so keep that in mind. He allows revisions for all papers and if you show up and do the work it is very easy to pass. Chili peppers!!
Prof Meinhardt is veer funny, and is very helpful with providing lots of feedback. There is a lot of work, but that is typical with every ucwr class. There is a lot of peer work, and class participation. He also allows you to resubmit work that you did not get full credit for. He eats of lot chili peppers during class.
Great teacher, very caring of his students, assigns a lot of writing, and is hilarious. He deserves chili peppers.
I loved this professor! While this class was a ton of writing, that was expected for a writing seminar and it was not hard at all. However, it was a lot of work writing. But I loved that Dr. M was so understanding and he was a great prof as a whole -- guaranteed A+! SO SO SO many chili peppers!!! Chili peppers galore!
Thankfully I got 100% in this class but it was very difficult because of how vague he is. He doesn't describe his assignments at all and his own words conflict with what's on the syllabus. Very unprofessional, super funny and cool but he talks all class instead of teaching. Assigns so much busy work and much larger projects than other UCWR classes.
This class was definitely challenging at times but Dr. Meinhardt is upfront about it. You won't get as amazing of a writing experience with any other professor, I truly feel like I've grown so much because of his class! He really wants you to succeed so most stuff is graded on completion. Such a wise and engaging speaker too(lots of chili peppers!)
1.5 chili peppers if you have the chance take professor meinhardt, he makes ucwr soooo easy and hes a super easy grader. take this from someone who has never gotten an A in writing before now
Professor Meinhardt is amazing and he truly cares about all of his students. It can be a lot of work at times, but it is more than manageable. If you want to do good in this class all you have to do is try and put your best effort in. Before this class I did not like writing, but now I find it more enjoyable. He is funny and loves chili peppers.
5/5 chili peppers. 5/5 stars. Great prof, super chill, and you'll learn a lot about cool poetry!!! (coming from someone who didn't rly care much abt poetry before this class)
took this course over the summer 2024 term and it was great, he tells your exactly what he wants and gives you time for revisions, he really wants you to learn the scopes for life rather than just sending you off, a good balance of being a professor and a relatable human being you'd meet irl. also good life advice too. redhotchilipeppers
Prof Meinhardt makes UCWR a breeze. Lots of writing but he's a fair grader. Engaging lectures and great feedback. Unstuckstudy was a game-changer for study prep.
He was very kind, although he seems intimidating at first; as long as you pitch in and are kind, he will be chill, and if you care to ask him questions, he is very helpful. 3/5 chili peppers
Professor Meinhardt is very real and give facts to you as the are, I found this extremely helpful to improve my work. That class is not too demanding for an English course, it mostly consists of opinionated and personal writing.
First of all, 5/5 chili peppers. Next, Professor Meinhardt was the first English teacher to actually get me excited about writing papers. He really respects his students and there is always an open line of communication. He made UCWR very very easy and borderline fun. Def take his class if you have the chance.
He is a really nice guy who improves your writing capabilities. However, he doesn't organize very well and due dates are extremely complicated. He can give some conflicting corrections that can be confusing. His critiques are sometimes vague and difficult to interpret. He is understanding and available outside of class and has a clear expectation
Great professor for UCWR as he cares more about your improvement rather than the grading rubric. 5/5 chili peppers and there's a reason for that!
If you enjoy writing & reading, or don't mind a challenge, I would highly recommend Prof. Meinhardt. Solid amount of work, but he's supportive and understanding as long as you reach out and ask. Sometimes he'll tell stories in class, but they end up relating to the topic. Included in class: jokes, accessibility & chili peppers.
Lowkey, this class is a waste of time, but since it's required, it wasn't totally his fault. Was definitely my hardest class, always homework. Stay on top!!! He is very understanding if you fall behind, but get caught as fast as possible! Tons of writing and make sure you ask questions, because tbh the descriptions were not very helpful at all.
Dr. Meinhardt is a great professor who significantly improved my writing. He assigns a lot of homework, with papers due every class, so be mindful if you have a heavy course load. However, he allows revisions for full credit and tries to connect with each student. I highly recommend him.
WAY TOO MUCH WORK. For a required course, the courseload is way too much. It's very easy to fall behind. Participation heavy. Tends to ramble on and on often talking about unrelated topics. But he does want you to learn and grow and overall improve as a writer. He is very confident in his course. But once again. Way too much work
I don't know how he had this high of a rating. It was wayyyyy too much work for a general UCWR. He is all about "F the system" and relearning how to write, but he doesn't teach you he just sets u up for failure and then marks up your paper like crazy with no real help at all. Take literally any other UCWR teacher trust me it will be less work.
M.M. is amazing and he's a genuine person that wants you to learn! He gives lots of opportunities to revise papers and always desires to give you full score! However I didn't like how vague the online instructions are at all, but if you think you can handle that then I recommed 100%. Fun experience tho!
I took UCWR with Professor Meinhardt, and the class was very easy to get a good grade. He gives feedback on each paper and tells you exactly what to fix to get a 100%. At the beginning of the semester, there is a lot of busy work and readings, but it is made aware what is due each day in the syllabus.
He is a nice guy but his coarse load was extremely heavy. If you don't have decent time management, don't take his class, if you don't like writing a lot, don't take his class. I feel like this class was too much for an entry class. We ended with a 10 page research essay. Just don't do it
The grades are 5 writing projects (fifth is the final: 10-12 page research), plus daily responses. The workload is excessive for a required freshmen writing seminar. He doesn't give very clear instructions, just kind of mentions things once and expects you to know how to do it. But if you do all the work and try to improve, you'll get the A.
Dr. Meinhardt can be nice at the beginning, I found his lectures interesting w/ good information, but the problem was that he had nothing written down on Sakai to reference off of. Don't take this course w/ him if you have other heavy content classes b/c you will literally not have time to get any work done for this class.
He's very caring of his students and truly wants everyone to succeed. Sometimes goes on tangents. If you go to him for feedback, he will help you to get a better grade. He allows you to resubmit papers indefinitely so you will always have an opportunity to correct your mistakes. Put in the work and there's no reason you shouldn't end with an A
If your a stem major, don't take him. It's a lot of writing even for a UCWR class. I swear theres a paper every other day, I thought I could manage it and ended up failing 2 classes for MY MAJOR. He requires everything to be printed out. Says the class will get easier, actually doesn't... ALL of this work just to end up with a B+.
as a neuro major i did not know what to expect in a creative writing class, but he was so chill. he focused on growth + trying not necessarily 'correctness.' if you put in the effort to get better and showed up, he was super flexible abt dates/grading. enjoyable guy- clearly loves writing and helping students. would 1000% recommend.
A ridiculous amount of work for an entry level class. From what I hear he is the only professor who does this and he boasts about it in class. Nice guy though.
I would rate Michael 3 Chilli peppers. K Bye XD.
I wish I give him a zero, but unfortunately that's not possible. You will be revising your writing at least 3 times before he will give you an okay grade. If you ask for feedback in order to better your grade, he will just continue to give you the same response. It's a lot of work for a required class as a STEM major. CHOOSE ANYONE ELSE.
SO MUCH WRITING but gives lots of feedback
Five chili pepppers!! XD
Dr Meinhardt deserves 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ 🌶️a whole garden full of chili peppers due to his infinite wisdom and storytelling ability. He gives chill awesome dad vibes and is a chill dude.(In all seriousness, the class is hard work but genuinely made me a better writer, if you put in the work, your grade reflects it)
