Good professor, looks like he cares about his students.
Bill Gates look-alike? Anyone? Anyone? He's a great teacher--very prepared and will go to any lengths to help you learn. He is willing to explain any tangent (doesn't get rattled at all) and you can go by his office just about any time. G
Great guy..helps a lot whenever you go to him. Surprising esp since hes the dept head of M&Nano. If this guy can spare the time to help undergrads, it makes me wonder why some other profs seem so damn busy.
Professor Melloch is the best! He is very competent, and awesome. He is the area chair for Micro&Nanoelectronics, and also he is the director of graduate admissions. Despite of his busy life, if you go to his office hour, he will still go in great detail to help you. One of the best prof at Purdue!
Extremely well prepared for every class, very clear and concise. Always helpful and willing to answer questions in or out of class.
One of the best professors, way to underrated. It's sad that the worst professors are the ones with the most reviews.
Took him for ECE 311 also. My favorite professor at Purdue. Very helpful and doesn't make the exams over things he has covered.
Great guy.
The course is hard but the professor is always ready to teach.
one of the most helpful prof. i ve ever met. prof. melloch really paid a looooooot of passion in this class.
excellent professor that actually encourages his students to post feedback on this site. keep up the good work professor!
I will take ECE305 if Prof. Melloch is teaching it next semester.
This is a very friendly and helpful professor, whose enthusiasm and passion in electrical engineering attract the attention of the whole class whenever he demonstrates simple experiments illustrating the concept of electromagnetism. However the lecture would be better if he mentions the topic of the day before showing us all the formulas.
He really is a good professor. He reviews what he taught at the last lecture, and he gives lots of chances to help students understand and get good grades.
You explain the materials very clearly. I only hope that we have time to discuss the LED and Photovoltaics part of the class. Other than that, it was pretty much perfect.
This professor makes the material easy to understand and tests you fairly.
One of the best classes I've taken at Purdue. Exams and HWs were all very fair.
Attend class, its worthwhile and really helps for the exams.
One of my favorite professors, actually tries to get to know his students which makes getting help from him easier. Will help out with anything that you do not understand. I recommend taking him for 311 and 305
Very good teacher but you must attend class to get anything out of it
The class was great. I especially liked the exams and the helpfulness of the past exams.
GREAT professor. the very first prof. i ve met during my 3 yr undergrad so far, who really cares his students. im lucky 2b his student.'nd he gives us extremly clear lectures
A godsend to us ECE students. I hated physics until I got into his class. For an abstract subject, he makes things very clear. It's not too hard if you actually study some. If you study past exams, you will do very well in this class. He is always willing to help you if you don't understand anything. A fair professor.
gotta say, my favourite professor! A fair and kind professor who actually cares his students! and you feel so bad when you dont study or perform in his class, when he is so helpful and wanted you to understand the materials taught. The course itself is hard but you will never want to lose the chance getting to know this awesome professor!!
The course is difficult simply because of the difficult subject material that needs to be covered. That being said this professor is the most helpful and caring ECE professor that I've had so far. The hw is reasonable and helps you learn. The exams are a very good representation of the subject that is taught. I highly recommend this professor.
Excellent professor who actually cares about his students and puts forth the effort to have them succeed. Easily one of the best professors in the ECE department here at Purdue.
Good teacher. Ok class. Like that he showed physical demos of the forces in action.
Prof. Melloch is probably one of the best professors in ECE. He does a great job at explaining the concepts in class. Very helpful if you meet him during office hours and extremely friendly. ( He treats everyone in class to a pizza lunch ).
Well organized and very approachable. Offers demonstrations and videos to supplement lectures. Always willing to help. Take a class with this professor if you get the chance.
Easy to understand, very helpful. Puts a lot of effort into actually teaching the concepts
This professor works very hard to make the material understandable and clear, and go to great lengths to help out the student.
A very approachable and nice professor. It's always possible to get an A in his classes if you put in the effort.
I like the fact that he explains topics that are not clearly covered in the textbook, and gives derivations for formulas. I also really like the fact that he has demos for many of the important topics, and posts videos of the demos, along with other videos, on blackboard, so I can go back and watch them again to clarify topics.
Professor Melloch is great, he shows excellent demonstrations in class, he tries his hardest to keep us students in the loop with information and to keep us entertained. My one gripeis that hishomeworks don'tmatch up so well with hislectures or the book. I look at thehomework and compare the problems with my notesand the book and I'm leftconfused
Professor Melloch teaches everything in a clear, easy to follow manner. He really wants his students to understand the material and offers a lot of office hours and extra help.
Great guy! He really has a good way of explaining complex concepts and making them simple enough to understand. Provides a lot of opportunity to learn the material.
Professor Melloch puts more effort into teaching his class than I've seen from any professor in my 3 years here. He posts helpful videos, and offers sessions allowing us to earn points back on our exam by "teaching" a concept from a missed problem. He has made me enjoy electromagnetics when I've only ever heard bad things about the course.
Very Helpful. Tries as much as possible to enable full understanding of concepts.
GOOD KIND HELPFUL
He genuinely seems to care about his students learning the material. He wants everyone to succeed in his class.
Fantastic Teacher, Always helpful and really wants you to learn the material, He is very laid back and likes to get to know the students, overall great experience
Mike Melloch is one of the best professors I've had at Purdue. He tries his best to make sure you can understand the material. In my opinion, the only problem is that the material in EE 311 is really hard to understand especially if you don't love physics
Dr Melloch places great importance on actual understanding of the material and goes to great lengths to make sure it happens, he posts several videos on experiments to better illustrate concepts which are fun and help you learn. One can also get back points on every midterm exam , which is a great confidence booster.Verdict: Take it !
Really great professor, material is hard to understand in general but it becomes clearer when he teaches it. Also go to Office hours they help a lot!
Brilliant Professor. Really Cares about his students.Knows the material. The Bar to which all other professors should be like.
Very nice professor
great guy
Possibly the greatest professor in the entire ECE department. He wants his students to learn the material and structures his lectures in a way that promotes learning. Exams can be tough, but he gives his students plenty of old exams to review from. I rarely had to use the textbook thanks to the clarity of Professor Melloch and supplemental text.
Professor Melloch is the best teacher I have had at Purdue. He is very good at explaining and demonstrating difficult concepts. His policy of allowing students to make up lost exam points by demonstrating mastery of a topic that you did poorly on is very helpfu, turning weak points into strong points. I highly recommend him as a teacher.
Puts forward more effort than any other prof I’ve had. Brings handouts to class, performs in-class demonstrations, gives historical context of material, posts supplementary explanations and real-world applications of material on blackboard, takes class time to answer questions, has ample office hours, arranges lunch with students.
Presents every single topic clearly and uses helpful demonstrations often.
Very helpful and interested in getting to know his students.
Wish more professors were like him.
Great professor, one of the best I've had at Purdue
Good professor and easy to talk to outside of class. Helpful when answering questions.
Sometimes the material covered in the lecture is different from the homework and the book is not that useful so I don't know what i can do if I cannot understand the material in the lecture.By the way, most of the time, the lecture is understandable
A great professor overall. He's very understanding and makes sure his students learn the material clearly.
The professor is amazing and really nice. He gives a lot of time to his students.
Attend class an pay attention. He's great at what he does, but it's a difficult class. However, he's willing to help out wherever you have problems and is very helpful. GO TO OFFICE HOURS
Very open to talk to anyone that needs help and just want to talk.
This is the only professor I've written a review for on this website, because honestly he deserves to have people informed on how good of a professor he is. No one else cares for his student as much as Prof. Melloch. If you're struggling, just talk to him.
Great Teacher. Easy to talk to
Nice person
Helpful
I would take any class with this professor regardless of the subject!
Professor Melloch suggested we do this eval which is already an awesome statement of the care he puts in his teaching. He takes care to make sure he knows each of his students on a first name basis. He does this by planning lunches with tthe which h is great! All hw is real hard, but it's extra credit and preps you real good for the exams! A+ prof!
Melloch is a super cool dude. He tries his best to help you and gives the opportunity to give points back on exams given class attendance is 80%. Highly recommend.
Attendance is not required, but he gives the opportunity to redo an exam problem if you attended 90% of the lectures before an exam. Easily the best ECE professor I've had at Purdue. Its clear that Prof. Melloch cares about the students taking his class.
If this professor is available, TAKE HIM!! you will regret if you dont. Also, if your major doesnt want you taking this course, just switch majors! Professor Melloch is the most amazing professor I have ever had.
The definition of a good professor. Actually, I can't think of a professor better than him. Professor Melloch actually cares about how his students understands the material and he puts all his time to help students.
Prof. Melloch is an insanely good prof. He is clear to understand, his assignments and exams are clear-cut and straightforward, and he makes every attempt to learn every student's name (in a class of 60) by the second (of 3) midterms. I could get an A in any class if he was the professor. GET HIM FOR ECE 311!
nice person and helpful course
He is really nice
Professor is truly concerned with students understanding of the material and sincerely puts time into making sure that students get a good grade if they are willing to pay attention and put forth effort
Professor Melloch might be the best professor I have ever encountered in college. He was very good at delivering ideas and the lecture contents. I loved the course and i wish to have him for future courses that I might take.
Professor Melloch is clearly the best professor in ECE. He makes his class go so smoothly that you never feel the pressure for the vast syllabus it covers. Prof. Melloch's policies and lunches are the coolest thing ever. I wish he teaches more courses and I will happily take them.
Awesome professor, one of the best in Purdue's ECE department. Really cares about students success, holds extra office hours nearing exam time. If you go to every class, bonus points available by making up exam questions. Exams are reasonable, studying previous exams will prepare you. Teaches very well, lots of cool demos.
Very good professor. Will go out of his way to answer questions for students. If he doesn't know the answer, he will research and come back next class with a good explanation. Attendance isn't mandatory. However extra credit is contingent on attendance, so most people go. Concepts can be difficult, but Melloch makes it manageable for students.
Prof. Melloch is a really nice person, helpful and patient. His course emphasizes the most basic concepts so that you can get a solid foundation with this threshold level electromagnetism course, but not get lost in the tons of weird exam questions without a straightforward sense of what is going on.
Best professor ever
Definitely a great professor. Awesome demonstrations in class. Very clear and detailed notes. Really nice as well.
Hands down the best professor in ECE! I would take any class that prof. Melloch teaches.
Prof. Melloch is a professor who is not as interested in making you work as much as helping you truly understand the concepts of the course. He therefore gives a reasonable workload, has enjoyable lectures that are engaging, and has plenty of opportunity for effort to shine over genius. The tests are very fair and the resources help immensely.
He puts forth an incredible amount of effort to teach, and it really shows! From his illustrative demonstrations, to his thoughtfully-prepared paper handouts and video recordings, he provides many alternate resources to explain and expound upon the phenomena covered in this course. He emphasizes and cultivates a strong conceptual understanding.
He's one of the best professors I've had at Purdue! He gives out lots of helpful handouts and homework is extra credit. He really cares that his students do well.
Cares for his students, I'd take him for any classes he's teaching. One of the best proffesors I've ever had
Prof. Melloch is the best professor I have yet to have in the ECE department. He is dedicated to the success and learning of his students. He is very personal with his students as well which makes it easy to ask for help. If you show up to class, do the work, and get any needed help, it will not be difficult to do well.
Prof. Melloch truly cares about his student's success. He makes himself and his TA more than accessible. Additionally, he uses numerous visuals and experiments to really create a good understanding of the concepts. The only problem was going too slow which might be attributed to the students and the Prof being taken advantage of slightly.
Easily the best professor I've had at Purdue so far, which, in turn made ECE311 the most interesting course I've taken. Truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He's always available to help, and is very friendly. I could write a paper about how excellent he's been this semester. Keep it up, Dr. Melloch.
Prof. Melloch was the first professor I had in ECE that I could tell really cared about his students. He would always come in with demos prepared to explain further the topics from the lecture. In addition, he had a point recovery system on tests based on a short presentation, which really helped me learn the stuff I wasn't as comfortable about
One of the best professors at Purdue
This is the only professor in Purdue that will give you his 100% to learn. If you dont take a class with him, you are losing big time. Never had a better Professor, I dont think i will (I really hope I do).
One of the best instructors I have ever come across. Very helpful and inspiring and motivates you to give your best. Always ready to help, if you are genuinely interested to learn.
Best professor I have ever had in ECE. Gives great lectures with experiments. He gives points back on exams and extra credit. In office hours it is obvious he truly wants his students to succeed.
Professor Melloch is a very extraordinary professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department. He can introduce electromagnetic topics very clearly and always do some physical experiments in class. I think that is a valuable experience to observe current and magnetic field effects. His exams are fair and test what you have learned.
This was my favorite class and Melloch is my favorite professor. Hands down- he is accomodating of outside situations, willing to meet with students whenever, will explain a problem multiple times and ways to help you understand, bring in real life demos to make sense of some of the weird formulas, and keeps everything fun. Best prof for this class
One of the best professors I've ever had. Truly a hidden gem of Purdue ECE dept.
The best professor I had at Purdue. He is able to take a subject frequently hidden by calculus and derivation, and make it demonstrably intuitive to students. Worked with me and helped me to understand a lot about myself as a student. Dr. Melloch is an outstanding person, a devoted educator, and was a real mentor to me during my time at Purdue ECE.
Dr. Melloch is the professor I've had at Purdue. I didn't have that many interactions with him, but I know that I can talk to him anytime!
Easily the best professor I have had. Offers a lot of extra credit and is very available to help students.
Easy A I feel. He gives you chance to get some points back if attendance is good. The content is not quite easy but it's easy exams.
An absolute gem of a professor, completely changed the way I approached the subject. His lectures are incredibly well organized with lots of practical demonstrations, worked out examples, and thorough explanations of concepts. Exams and homeworks are straightforward and not very hard if you put in the effort. One of the best teachers I've ever had.
Best professor at Purdue by far. He cares a lot about his students, and his lectures are very interesting. If you do the past exams, you'll do great !
One of the best ECE profs. Great lecturer (i.e. go to class and you'll get the stuff). Lots of extra credit. Straightforward exams. As long as you don't slack off (completely ignore class etc.), you'll probably get at least a B. Really cares about students. Very helpful in Q&A. Highly recommended. Only con is wish he taught more ECE classes.
Best ECE professor I've ever had at Purdue. The content was relatively difficult but easy to understand if you attend all his lectures. He makes it worth going to all lectures with extra credit incentives.
This class is physics heavy, but professor's explanations are pretty good. 2 cool things about the class: 1) all homework was extra credit, so you might as well do it. 2) if you do well enough on an exam, there's an oppurtunity to get some credit back for a question you missed; just schedule a meeting with him and work out the problem from scratch!
Normally he teaches ECE courses, but he started teaching ENGR 103 which is a course for FYE students about study habits and learning strategies. I found it interesting because he looked at the studies behind learning strategies, but I didn't find this class that useful since most of the strategies are fairly generic but definitely effective.
I took Prof. Melloch's ENGR10301 class. Content was engaging and very useful for my academic career. His teaching was clear and memorable, focusing on student success. Exams matched lectures and texts, making an A very achievable. Highly recommend, will be trying to get into his ECE classes next year.
This professor goes through material on presentation slides based off on the research book he wrote. It is all very informative on how to study and think when learning how to adjust to college life.
Definitely the best professor for 30411. You need to show up to class, though; he doesn't really teach from the textbook, and the notes he posts aren't enough to learn from. The homework is all extra credit, which is nice. Show up, take good notes, and do the practice exams, and it won't be hard to get an A.
Mike is honestly very overrated, i took his section and got a somewhat good grade too. You have to put in extra studying to do well unlike other classes. Homework is extra credit but he makes up for it by absolutely destroying you in the exams crossing questions left and right just because you didn't do the question his way.
Keys To Learning is a very new course Professor Melloch just started teaching, its a course he genuinely cares about and is extremely passionate about. Lectures contain so much concentrated interesting and inspiring content, and attendance is the vast majority of the grade making it a very easy course.
Imo, the best professor in Purdue's ECE dept. I haven't had many professors that genuinely care about their students and their learning. Lectures were good and they are recorded, but you can win points back on exams simply by going to lecture and office hours.
Show up for class, do the reflections, and you will do well on the quizzes. Easy course, but great information in it.
Professor Melloch cares a lot about students' success and wellbeing, and it shines through in this class. He told us that he designed Keys to Learning just so that students can learn techniques to do better in school. A decent amount of the material was common sense, but I still recommend this class just because of how well it is taught.
I would take a bullet for this professor if needed. he is so kind and genuinely cares. I sucked at the class but he does a great job teaching. he knows everyones names and plays music at the beginning of some classes. he also has an entire online course and demos. I showed the demos to my family at thanksgiving because he is so awesome
Professor Melloch is easily the best professor I've had at Purdue. He genuinely cares about his students and makes an effort to help everyone understand the material. His lectures are clear, and the handouts and demos he uses in class really help bring the concepts to life.
Extremely caring and genuine professor. Teachers extremely well and answers absolutely any question asked. Exams are very lecture heavy and homework is used as an extra credit opportunity. Overall, grading is very fair for this "difficult" of a class and Melloch made this one of my favorite classes at Purdue.
Melloch is a really great professor. Exams and HW are fair and his pre-recorded videos on Brightspace + practice exams are the script when it comes to doing good in this class. Lecture is a good way to get familiar with the topics and watching the videos is the way to master them. Wish he taught Emag 2.
Really interesting class! great professor
Overall a great and interesting class that isn't much work. Professor does a fantastic job lecturing, highly recommend.
While this class did teach me that I am horrible at taking exams, Melloch was always fantastic and I learned a lot. The homework is just a weekly reflection, with physics problems being for extra credit. He is incredible at teaching Maxwell's equations conceptually and I feel like he is one of the few ECE profs that actually care about students.
Melloch is a very good lecturer and is able to make all of his content very interesting. His 10301 class is very easy and actually gives good information, too. He knows his content well, is interested in what he is teaching, and doesn't just read off of slides.
I really enjoyed this class its pretty interesting and there is no work involved. Attendance is graded but the professor is very understanding and is enthusiastic about the material. It teaches you a lot of important skills.
Prof. Melloch only wants for you to take your learning from this class to excel academically/personally and doesn't want this class to be something you stress over. Attend weekly lectures for attendance points and submit reflections for all your points. Learned useful stuff in his course and recommend for freshman getting adjusted to college.
Very nice professor and easy to talk to. Class was a easy A+ if you just showed up.
