He knows his stuff. But his tests are tricky even though their multiple choice.
Good teacher, tests are worded tricky so they are difficult
Good teacher and passionate about the class...Tests and quizzes are tricky due to wording...And some issues with lecture notes...
this guy knows his stuff, but is a real hard ass. he gets an attitude with students, and forgets we pay for tuition, and is not doing us any favors. Let me just put it this way, i missed a B by 2 points, and he was suppose to have a curve, so i guess it was a 1 point curve.
He has a lot of real life experience, but when people asked questions he was kind of an ****. I usually ask questions, and after observing how he responded - I kept my mouth shut. Decent teacher, tough class
I like his classes. I was never very interested in Law, but Prof. Miller keeps my interest. He is very passionate about the topic, and is a bit of a crusader, but tends to argue rationally. I did not find his tests too difficult at all, the easiest thing to do is to study the website that comes with the book - some of the sample questions made their way into the tests.
This guys is a great teacher. He is passionate and has a lot of experience. He gets your brain thinking about many different issues. The tests aren't completely easy, but they aren't impossible. But overall, I liked his teaching style.
He's an ok professor. Likes to get sidetracked. Likes to threaten students with pop quizzes so they'll show up to his class. He is funny though. And he did offer an extra credit assignment which raised my grade from a B to an A. The tests are not that difficult as long as you really study and know the material well.
This class is easy if you have common sense. I got B's on every quiz. I didn't read all semester, crammed for like 8 hours for the final. I got a B in the class. Make sure you do the extra credit.
Interesting lectures
He is a great teacher, very different-depending on the class level he teaches.Took him for Mgmt 350 and Mgmt 495. Mgmt 350 was an easy class, so many students took 495 with him-not easy-2 huge group grojects with presentations;3 exams;multiple pop quizes. Didnt do much study for 350, just showed up in class-got B. Study my a** off for 495, got an A.
The class is very interesting, but he makes it so hard by complicating even the simplest things. Take his class only if you want to get a grade by memorizing the information to get through. The tests are not hard but are extremely long.
Long lectures, which are basically the talks about anything, related or not related to the material. The book has to be read thoroughly. Unannounced quizes. Not so hard, though, pretty easy to get a B. Xtra credit available.
He is not a teacher doing teaching. You can't hear what he said most of the time not because of the noisy class but his extremely low volume. The T/A is also helpless even though she is very good in her major, and she is not responsible at all!!!
I took him for mgmt 350 and 495. he is a great teacher. very helpful. his projects and case studies help you learn a lot. if you sincerely do the work, it's not hard to get an A.
He gets angry when you talk and has pop quizes. Not fun when you have to go to every class for possible quizes. Test are pretty hard, and he doesn't really teach.
Him!!! well it was an ok class. It was hard but then on the other hand i didnt have a book. so i guess i got a B. If study then u should b fine. BUT U HAVE TO GO TO EVERYCLASS as there are POP quizzes. they are eaz but the exams thy are like HELL. if u can avoid him if u dont want more stress then u already have. I didnt have ne other choice!!!!
Very interesting class. Just go to class everyday because his pop quizes are unpredictable. NOt too bad. Make sure you do the extra credit.
I thought that histeaching style was all over the place. He spent most of the time yelling at the class because they were too noisy. Then for the material he would just talk all class about nothing and make everyone confused. You def have to read the book and go to every class!
Go to class because you never know when ther will be a quiz(sometimes twice in one day) so stay entire time. Also sit near front of class because he talks quietly and mumbles a bit
Unannounced quizzes. May give quiz at beginning but if people leave afterwards, he may give another one at the end of class. Make sure to take with friends so someone can cover for you. Tests are ok, a lot like quizzes. Extra credit opportunities
Overall, the class is very stress-free and not very difficult. You HAVE to read the text and the tests are somewhat difficult. A good amount of extra credit is available so earning atleast a "B" is fairly easy.
Mildly interesting class that you must never miss due to the Pop Quizzes. Read the text and his slides well in order to do well on the Tests and Quizzes. That class isn't really hard. The lectures aren't sleep inducing and Miller does show you some fun videos during the semester. Overall, not a bad class!
Miller is a great teacher, he makes the lectures interesting and challenges students on topics, the quizes and midterms are pretty easy, easy A or B! Recommended!
He's really not a bad teacher, he just needs to make things more interesting. Alot of paper writing. And they get longer throughout the semester. Make sure you do a great final presentation and you should be fine
This guy is a pre-maddona. One of HIS colleagues (a UIC teacher) told me that he cannot be wrong in an argument and it's true. Anytime a student challenges his point of view, he embarrasses the student and tries to make them look stupid or crazy. It's a shame his class is part of the CBA curriculum.
A fair teacher. Allows for debate and will make you seem foolish if you dare debate with him (even though he encourages it). Read book b/c there are pop quizes in begining of class(even though he says they will be at anytime). He talks quitely sometimes so sit near the front. 2 Tests are fair. Extra credit offered and class is curved.
The class was easy going enough. I'd say you could skate through the class fine and get a B or a C at least. An A is a little tougher. He injects a lot of his personal opinions into lecture. When I didn't find them boring, I found them annoying. Nice guy beyond his personal beliefs.
Well, I don't like him personally. He has pop quizzes instead of taking attendant. He lies all the times. There was a presentation from Target and then he lied to us that there'd be a quiz next class to get more attendants. Anyway, I'd stay in class but I just don't like that he lies to students! Afterall, his class is okay if you read the book.
His teaching is awful. You have to read the book and learn from it. The 2 exams are pretty much knowing definitions. They are T/F and multiple choice. He has 7 pop quizzes, therefore you have to attend class. Easy B, and you can get an A with a little effort.
lectures are extremely boring you can hardly hear him, he gets all upset when someone doesnt agree with him and when he has no more arguments he simply ignores that person.. unfortunately he's the only one teaching this class
He does have a lot of arguments during class w students. I actually thought I was gonna write a ton of bad stuff. But I did actually learn, like the fact that plaintiffs have burden of proof and the diff. bankruptcies. Also, started recycling cause of this class. But you can barely hear him. His EC chances allow you to get the grade u deserve
I took him for 4 week semester. One of the better professors UIC has. His lectures are interesting and he?s clear on what he wants from you. Read the book and you will be fine. Lot of lively discussions in class, which is a good way to learn. This is college, you?re not going to get a A or B for goofing around. Must take. Good teacher.
All Multi-choices. But hard! He teaches pretty good, but his teaching style is not based on the concept. it is more related to critical thinking. You have to think more than memorize.
Easily one of the worst professors at UIC. He is utterly unprepared for class, just stands speaking whatever the heck he wants to talk about. We get through 3 slides on ave/per 2hour class.Slides that he didn't prepare, they were given with the book. Wouldn'tneedto come to class if it wasn't for those quizzes. Now has a seating chart for 500 students
Boring class. The guy knows a lot, but his lectures are irrelevant to the exams. VERY hard to get an A, or even a B for that matter. Lecture is spent NOT on the material, but on whatever he feels like talking about.
I had him for Negotiations and am taking him for 350. 350 there is not much choice and he is terrible, but for 463 the class is actually pretty interesting. he gives you good negotiations to do and all I had to do was write a paper on it. 463 was an easy A.
I know how we all feel about 350,but he's a totally different guy in 495. this class is pretty interesting and VERY EASY! the only time he really annoys me is when he talks about politics.
his lectures consist of him reading off the powerpoints and taking about back in the day when he was working at red lobster or the federal trade commission. You have to go to lecture because he has pop quizzes. you have to read the book heavily if you plan to pass the course with even a C.
Every lecture was a waste of time. He rambled on about everything accept what he needed to teach and he will claim to have worked for every government agency. He seems very book smart but just does not have much common sense. He tried to put our 350 person lecture hall into a seating chart. Did not like this class at all and am glad I am done.
Only reason to go to class is pop quizzes. Other than that it's worthless. He treats his students like little kids and can never be wrong.
Very boring, very tricky. Will have unannounced quizzes. Just read the book and you will be ok. Don't pass on the extra credit.
-Although each unannounced quiz worth only 10 points, 7 quizzes worth nearly your final exam points -Read assigned chapters carefully -take lecture notes even if you feels sleepy (you need to know where to focus on lecture notes because it's a little random)
This class is his baby. I have to say that I had bad memories from his mgtm350 class, but I completely changed my mind after having a fun and easy class in mgtm495. I also learned a looooot, which makes this class even better.
Doesn't discuss book topics or powerponts. He rants too much, boring rants re occurring topics. Tests are hard, use the book, not class notes.
He is ok. The class is not that difficult, you have to show up though in order not to miss pop-up quizes.
he is kinda hard. and i hate all his pop quizes. he doesnt know how to teach, talks about the useless stuff. and you have to read the textbook in order to do good on the midterm and final. his powerpoints are useless...
One of the worst Profs I've ever had! Tests questions are vague and he is boring and won't let you even use a laptop so you're sitting in class counting down the minutes! AVOID! You have to go to class because he gives pop quizzes and you don't know when they're coming up! AVOID! Trust me!
He wastes time going off on his political tangent, the book is a boring read (40 pages a chapter with hundreds of terms and situations). Class is a complete waste of time, if not for his surprise pop quizzes (which he might give out at the beginning or ending of class) there is no point in going to this class. Class time sucks also.
You just have to "get" him...If law and politics are something you enjoy you will love his rants. If not, you will be miserable as he gives pop quizzes and you will have to sit through his lectures. He really does mean well (but he has his own agenda in changeing peoples mind about government and corporations.
He's not a bad person, the problem with his class is that he can't teach. He'll just take out a power point slide and talk for like 20 minutes on something totally irrelevant, and he might occasionally yell(to himself) because the topic excites him. The quizzes irritate me because it's a mandate to come to his class despite his boring presence.
boring, boring, boring. lecture has nothing to do with material in book (nor do the tests and quizzes which are mandatory and unpredictable and you can't see them b/c they are on projector).very unprofessional in general. no one cares about your kids or law. this is a management class, not a law class. loves to show off that he has a law degree.
The timing of the class sucks, 3:30-4:45 PM especially for commuters which is like 70% of UIC. He's boring but you have to stay because of the pop quizzes worth 27% of your grade. Tests are difficult and about 40 pages per chapter with tons of law terms (It's awful). The class was useless but I hated that there was only one timing.
Miller said he personally reads these & I hope he does. He goes off in useless tangents that make you fall asleep but you are forced to go to his class for quizzes which are in Word so you have to make sure you have a good seat if you want to pass. He looks like the dad from Even Stevens. Final is about random terms not on review slides. Hate him.
I like the way he teaches. Many exercises that makes the material easier. The exams and quizzes were good and fair. He has a good sense of humor and keeps the class entertained. Overall, a good class to take. 1 midterm, couple of quizzes, homework, and a final paper.
You really have to read the text book if you want to get a good grade. He may give you some hint about test and quiz. I hate he gives us quizes on the screen. He does not give us enough time to read through. He needs to improve his teaching style.
Tests really matter in his class, and his tests are difficult. Lectures aren't very helpful unless you read. Take this class if you know you can commit to reading before going to lecture. I don't like to read, this class was my only C this sem. My favorite quote of his when someone makes an irrational argument "Now, don't get emotional!"
Tests are fair but difficult and there are about 8 or 9 random quizzes during class but he gives a fair warning about them by at least one lecture ahead of time. If you're a good student, you'll be fine but if you're looking for an easy A where you don't need to study hard, take another professor.
Quizzes and Tests are unnecessarily hard. Must read text. Does give prior notice of upcoming quiz. Explanations on occasion can be confusing. Material tested on is often irrelevant to job world (i.e., Ayn Rand, detailed points of law, and case studies). Could simplify and still get ethics message across.
You need to read the book. It's not that bad though, the material is interesting. If you read, a B or A shouldn't be a problem. Lecture is ok, you can tell he likes this stuff, so lecture isn't too boring. Oh and don't let Robert's (TA) questions trick you, just look for the 1 key sentence in the entire wall of text he writes!
This online class was 40% objective grading and 60% subjective. I read every assigned page. I maintained a 98.9% on all of the objective materials (quizzes/required postings), and received a low B on the subjective material. I ended up missing an A by 1 point. He provided me little constructive feedback, and did not clearly define expectations.
Terrible prof, but all bus majors have to take him. READ THE BOOK. It's the only way to pass - lecture is useless. Pop quizzes all the time so you have to go to class. Super liberal teacher. Can't have laptop in class or cellphone. Does offer an extra credit. Tests are HARD, M/C but asks stupid questions.
Over all pretty good class. but he doesnt bleive in letter grades. seems like his little daughter is randomly grading all hws!!! No Curve in class.very random grading. over all pretty easy and boring. MILLER Doesnt boost up grades for improving or if you are short 1% to get an A
Says it's a management class but really it's a law class. However, Miller is a nice guy definitely not a boring lecturer. Pay attention and you'll be good. All pop quizzes which is annoying at a college level. One midterm and a final and 6-7 quizzes with lowest being dropped. Extra credit in the form of attending guest speakers and a paper.
Professor Miller is passionate about the subject. It's mostly law related. His grading scale is a lil tough. If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the class for it. 20 out of 340 students received A's last semester. To do well in class, READ the book and COMPREHEND. Don't take the quizzes for granted. DO EXTRA CREDIT. Pay Attention!
Where to start. Quizzes are only 5?s and typo laden. Lectures are incohesive he looks at the book powerpoint and babbles of the cuff. He is the smartest guy in any room he's ever been in. Huge brownnose to the guest speakers he has come in. First B I have ever gotten at UIC. Play a fun game counting how may times he saysDoes everybody realize
Painfully liberal. He can't go 5 seconds without bashing republicans it becomes draining, this coming from a democrat. Class isn't tough, read the book. The low rating for ease and helpfulness is from pop quizes (some of us can't afford to study before every freaking class) and the fact that he (seemingly unknowingly) raised his voice at students.
I have serious doubts about some of these reviewers:"His teaching is awful. You have to read the book and learn from it." Wow. Read and learn. That's asking a bit too much. Miller is a character. His lectures are basically improv. Bashes students, politicians, and himself. His lectures were fun and a nice break from the avg. business class
Good professor
Horrible professor. His lectures have nothing to do with the material. he simply talks about his teenage work life at red lobster and about politics!! his pop quizzes are extremely hard!! they have very little to do with the book and nothing related to his slides. slides are not helpful at all. if you can PLEASE avoid him!!!!!
Very good professor.. I have to disagree with the last poster. I am currently in his course and his pop quizzes are based 100% on the book. I think I may get an A. I got a bad grade one quiz, then started focusing heavily on the book and haven't gotten under an 8/10 since. The class is not that difficult if you put the time in..
Going against the general consensus, I thought Miller's class wasn't too horrible. The exams and quizzes are verbatim out of the book. Lectures are interesting if you pay attention, although they have almost no relevance to the tests. Miller's a cool guy, and offers extra credit, hard to maintain an A however.
Horrible Professor. His tests are almost completely based on the book but he still demands students to attend his lecture by issuing pop quizzes. His lectures consist of him barking out his political opinions over and over again and have nothing to do with the course material.
He is a nice teacher very easy class just listen to what he has to say in class no need to read book and you'll surely recieve an A
Good luck with this guy. His lectures have little to do with the book, which is what the tests are entirely comprised of. Pop quizes are extremely tough, even when you study for them. Very angry guy, I wouldn't recommend him but you have no choice, he's the only law teacher there :(
This class was pretty challenging. There are pop quizzes given at random times. If you want to get an A you have to read the book. I recommend you read the book during class, and add to the powerpoint slides.
Avoid if possible. His pop quizzes are reason enough.
Awesome professor! AWESOME! I LOVE HIM!
The people saying you don't need to read the book must have taken another class. Lectures are useless, he just rambles about his accomplishments. You'll be doing a ton of reading. I hear Pagano's 350 section is better
When he talks, he always goes on a tangent. He will rarely finish the sentences he starts, which was quite frustrating for me. 80% of the time he spends lecturing will not be about what you will be tested on. He spends most of his time preaching what he believes kids should know, not about the material you need to know to succeed in his course.
Professor Miller. What kind of word can I use to describe him? Hippie. He definitely was smoking marijuana back in the day. Lectures are alright, gives out surprise quizzes, and very slow. Tests are hard, quizzes are usually easy.
I don't think he's as bad as other people have posted. Yes, he does blab a lot in lecture about irrelevant things but for those who come, he does give you an advantage by giving some questions straight from the test. There are pop quizzes and they can be tricky. Reading the book is mandatory. If you dont I cant see someone getting higher than a C.
Don't take him. worst thing I did. He is boring and his exams are ridiculous. Tried to argue with him on my answers, but he's a lawyer. He has the right intention on social justice, he just is not a good professor. Don't take him.
He's an awful "professor". He spends the entire class time talking about topics that are never covered in the exams. He doesn't read the cases he assigns and he cares more about format than content. If you want an A, read and memorize the book and follow his case format guidelines.
Run Away!!!! Drop him before it's too late!! Al he does is babbble about his political views, he's off topic, just read the textbook but it wont help too much, its like taking a political science class. just RUN!!!!
Miller is not that bad as people say. The class was easy as long as you kept with the reading. He does go off into some interesting stories though, some pretty funny. Just one of those classes we all business majors have to take. At least there wasnt any research papers. e
Pay attention, study, or read over your notes quizzes are easy. Test is hard. Study. Keep up with reading or pay attention in class your fine. Enjoyed his lectures. Relates to real life. ENgages class.
A hardcore but very knowledgeable professor! I really learned a lot from his class. If you're trying to get an easy A, don't take this class; if you're trying to learn some real stuff, take this class. Read every textbook page. Study for the exam. Go to every class. That's all I can say. I really tried, got a B, but I'm not regretful taking it!
His tests are extremely hard. I almost felt that I was in law school. His quizzes are not that hard but it doesn't help that they are pop quizzes. If you want to pass this class don't take notes just listen to him. Do not study power points, JUST READ THE BOOK!!!!
Overall not that bad. Make sure you go to class, listen to him, and READ the book. Oftentimes, he will give you an answer to some of the quiz questions while talking during class. An A is a bit hard, but a B is totally doable as long as you try a little bit. He is very boring, and hates students using their phones.
Whats up with all the drama!!! Okay, I will admit all you hear in class is blah blah blah nothing that has to do with terms thats are in the book. Just read the book....dont take notes sit there and listen to him. Attend all classes he gives pop quizzes and Good Luck his tests are confusing!
I really liked Professor Miller! His tests are a little hard, I think he gets a little excited and thinks that we all know law. We can't learn law just by reading a book. It kind of like calling ourselves doctors just because we went on google to diagnose something. Overall he he is a great professor he likes what he teaches.
I hated this class. It is not an easy A like 340 with Thompson. His tests are hard and tricky. The lectures are useless - don't have anything to do with whats on the exam. He still makes you come by giving 7 pop quizzes. Pop quizzes are ALOT easier than exams. Find someone else to take this class with!!!
Take another professor. This class is harder than 340. 7 pop quizzes. Tests are hard.
Miller tends to get distracted and talk about things that are not so much related to class sometimes. He's pretty cool though, since he used to work for the FTC. Buying the book is a must if you want to pass. I got an A by just reading the book. He does give extra credit, I advise you take advantage of that. Read the book and you'll do well.
I felt like this class was easier than MGMT 340. I suggest just reading the book. He also gives extra credit!
Avoid if you can, his class is the hardest one in management department with a lot of tricky questions in the exam. Even you read textbook and read his handouts, an A is out of your reach without knowing business law
8 Pop Quizes, 3 non-cumulative exams, 16 on-Line Quizes, Some extra credit, Read exam questions twice, tricky. Strict electronic device policy, Long Lectures, Will not help you understand questions on quizes from internet, not even to confirm if its the right answer. Horrible class, wish i could've gotten another professor.
Miller is a tough cookie. At first I thought I'd dislike him, but after a while he kind of grows on you. Miller is a genuine professor; always willing to help, and very understanding. The only fault with Miller is that he keeps you the entire 3 hours, often unnecessarily. His lectures could easily be condensed into 45 minutes. WE HAVE THINGS TO DO!
Pretty straight forward class; this is college, so stop complaining. Go to class, eat a sandwich; play on your phone; pick your head up every now and then; get a "B".
Honestly thought this was easier than 340. Just take notes from the book and memorize questions from the online quiz's and it should be easy. If people got lower than a B it just means they were lazy to study. It was a challenging class but just study for the exams and you'll be fine. I would take Miller again he was cool.
Simple, read a book before each lecture, do an online quiz, pay attention and there is no way that you should get a lower grade than B. Also, there are a couple of extra credit opportunities, please take an advantage of them because it can help you at the end.
Avoid him if you can. Lectures are useless. Read the book for exams. You still have to go to class though because there are pop quizzes. Awful class
good professor. 3 exams, 3 pop quizzes, 4 case studies. Read book and pay attention in class and you should be good
The guy is no help and doesnt seem to know the material. Avoid if you can. One of the worst professors I had at UIC, take that back, the worst professor I had at UIC. Lectures are boring. He reads directly off the slides. Get the book early if you can.
It's the second day and I already can't stand him. Liberal agenda wouldn't be so bad if he didnt verbally assault anyone with an opposing view. Often states Subjective or manipulated opinions as hard facts. Clearly cares about the material though, so it's not too boring.
really good professor, i am taking him this semester, only time i am in class is for his surprise quizzes which he lets you know about them at the beginning of class if there will be a quiz. all his lectures are online. easy B. if you want an A you would have to put a bit of work into studying for his exams. his exams are alright.
He is a very good professor and his ways of getting extra credit are very fun! Read the book and take some notes but you will learn a lot
THIS GUYS AWESOME!!!!
This class is not difficult but the lectures are very boring. He goes off many different tangents that aren't always necessarily related to the topic. The pop quizzes are not easy and they will affect your grade if you do poorly on them. The exams can be hard too even if you know the material. He is pretty boring but offers extra credit.
The professor doesn't talk much about the materials that you'll see on the test. I recommend reading the book for classes. Gives out pop-quizzes so class is mandatory. You don't need to pay attention in class to get a decent grade. I wouldn't recommend taking this professor for any classes that aren't mandatory for your major.
Terrible professor. Avoid him!!!
Professor Miller is among the best professors at UIC. He explains the concepts of government regulation in business, uses real world examplesespecially while he worked at the Federal Trade Commission. His lectures inspired me to learn behavioral economicsthe fact that people have limited information and bounded rationality to make decisions.
Miller is a nice guy and all but he preaches his far left political agenda far too often in class. I dont believe it's appropriate for a teacher to spew his political beliefs (right or left) to his students. I wish he focus more on the actual facts, because he tends to say things that he implies are "facts" but are actually just his political opini
He is very nice, enthusiastic & tries to be funny. Lecture heavy, but you can skip it. The learnsmart assignments and quizzes are most helpful. Only time attendance is mandatory is if there is a 5 question pop quiz, yes they affect your grade some. Gives lots of extracredit. Does not like when ppl are on laptop during class. Easy B, A if you study.
Professor Miller is a good teacher! His lectures can be long and off topic but overall I got the sense that he really knows what he's talking about. The group project is extensive for this class so make sure to get a good group. Also presentating in front of Executives can be nerve racking but I highly recommend the experience.
While he is a nice professor, Miller has pop quizzes that can make or break your grade. Don't skip his class EVER. He goes off track during lecture which can cause people to leave class early but DONT LEAVE EARLY. Tests are challenging. Doesn't curve exams that much. Do the learnsmart and online quizzes, they will help long term in the course.
Just don't take him.
Preached his Political views like gospel, even though they were factually unsupported. Was of little help.
Took him for MGMT 350 and loved him! He was very entertaining to listen to and he connects the material his real world experiences. Honestly one of the smartest professors at UIC. Just read the book and pay attention in class, take good notes and you will get an A! The material is not difficult but can get dry at times.
He was my management 350 professor and he really wasn't bad. You have to read the book to get an A but it wasn't difficult. There are pop quizzes but if you pay attention he gives hints on the question and answer during class. Pretty funny guy. Just do your work you should get an A. He also gives a good amount of extra credit.
He was not too bad. The lectures weren't too helpful as he went off topic several times. He does give out 8 pop quizzes so make sure to know the material covered. HW and online quizzes were easy points. Tests were somewhat difficult but review the online quizzes and you should be fine. There is some extra credit possible so do it.
The class is not that hard. Yes, you do have to read the book, but the text is not difficult to comprehend. Most of the points come from the exams. Pop quizzes are not easy too. If you read the book, you should be fine. Easy B, getting an A takes some work.
I hate professor talking about his political views in class. I mean, come on, your opinion is not the fact, please don't do that in class. We don't want to listen to your political preaching. Worst professor I've ever had at UIC!!! Avoid him!!!
Thinks that he is the greatest professor alive. Talks crap about other types of teaching. Lectures are boring and are almost never about the material we need to cover. Talk about how he went to the Olympic games almost EVERY FREAKING CLASS PERIOD. The class is not hard but for your own time and sanity avoid.
Don't skip class and don't leave early. Pop-quizzes are completely random and happen in the last 5 minutes of class. Tests aren't too bad as long as you take notes. Pop-quizzes are hard while online quizzes are easily found on quizlet. A decent amount of extra credit opportunities.
Miller is an okay professor and this class is run of the mill. He gives random pop quizzes so you basically have to attend classes but they're not all that bad and not that difficult. Felt like the exams were a bit tricky even if you studied. He gives a review guide but tbh it does not really help out that much because it is kinda vague. Classmeh
This class sucks. Pop quizzes and 3 tests. Test reviews are way too broad compared to whats on the test. Learn smart and online quiz due every week. Pop quizzes suck and there is no way to prepare for them. This class is very doable but it just sucks. Miller is bad at teaching and doesn't prepare us for tests like he should. Do all extra credit!!
This guy just reads off of the slides, rambles about politics, and tells you a random story about his previous employment. I personally learned nothing from his lectures which I had to attend because of pop quizzes. Everything tested on is in the book. I recommend putting on headphones reading the book while you're in class.
The class isn't hard, it's his way of teaching!! His teaching skills suck!!! JUST DON'T TAKE HIM!!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!
Miller is not a great teacher honestly. He went off topic a lot and also did not teach the material very well. I literally found tests on coursehero and used that to study as well as the book itself. DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT!!! You can get up to 16 points extra credit and it will definitely help you get Atleast a B.
Spent two days in his MGMT 350 class and this guy is a joke. If it wasnt for pop quizzes, I wouldnt even bother going to lecture because he wants to ramble on about Donald Trump the whole time. Stereotypical college professor who wants to push their liberal agenda and has no idea what theyre talking about.
I hated this class. It is not an easy A! GOES OFF TOPIC A LOT. His tests are hard and tricky. The lectures are useless - don't have anything to do with whats on the exam. He still makes you come by giving pop quizzes. Pop quizzes are A LOT easier than exams. Find someone else to take this class with or take with alot of friends!!!
Miller definitely gets off topic a lot in lecture. You need to read the textbook if you want to succeed on his exams. Expect pop quizzes, about 6-8 throughout the semester. He CONSTANTLY talks about Trump. I'm liberal, and still think he talks about the guy too much.
The prof offers about 16 extra credit points if you go to the events and do the paper. This definitely helped me get an A in the class otherwise I would have ended up with a B in the class. Three exams - 1st two are not that hard, the last one was really easy because he told us exactly what to study for each chapter for the exam.
Miller really isn't that bad. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he has pop quizzes. There are some online assignments that are easy points, and he offers a lot of extra credit. He basically just reads off slides for lecture and rambles about other stuff a lot. Lecture can be boring, but tests and quizzes are easy if you listen.
This guy sucks. He goes off topic during lecture a lot, has weird rules like using LockDown browser and not being able to backtrack on quizzes, and is horribly at answering simple questions like what is gonna be on the quiz. Avoid at all costs. Me and everyone else taught ourselves and each other. Not Michael.
Very confusing, not that helpful or accessible. I felt like TAs did all of the work. (Our TA was very nice though) Wouldn't recommend him. He's not horrible, but he's nowhere near good.
Useless teacher. Ask TAs if you need help. This guy wouldn't even flip his own Powerpoint slides because even the TA did that. I wish I took anybody else. Stupid rules and never clear on anything. Lectures were also useless and barely covered the chapter. Avoid at all costs.
He comes off a little pretentious at times. Not helpful. Blatantly ignored some people's questions in lectures. Not a fan.
He didn't provide much assistance and gets off track pretty easily. TAs did most of the work.
He was very bad at explaining things, made us more worried than we needed to be and kind of made his TAs do everything. On top of that, he wasn't very respectful as on multiple occasions he ridiculed students for asking certain questions or got upset at ones that questioned his policies, and he was routinely rude to his TAs talking over them. Avoid
During lectures, he reads off the slides, but then goes off topic for 10 minutes per slide. Quizzes and tests are on lockbrowser, which is understandable. However, having one's camera and microphone on during an exam makes me highly uncomfortable. One said that if you take your eyes off the screen or move, they'll be notified that you're suspicious
Probably the worst Professor ever. Gets irritated if students ask a question and literally insults them if they get any answer wrong. Will teach you the chapter and very same day will take the quiz of that chapter. Never talks about his own class instead talks about how he wished to be a History teacher at high school.
Attending the lectures is pointless because he literally doesn't explain the concepts in detail like the text does and goes off-topic. He doesn't make sense. There is a chapter reading and quiz each week but he makes things harder than it needs to be.
During lectures he discussed everything except for the content he tested us on. Complete waste of time. Also refused to tell us what content the quizzes were testing us on.
He was very rude to students and TAs alike and honestly came off a bit racist at times though he maybe didn't mean to. He once asked the two Indian TAs if they were often mistaken as sisters eventhough they did not look alike. This comment made TAs and students visibly uncomfortably. I wish he was more considerate when speaking to people.
Short tempered, confusing, not helpful. He seems like a nice guy but a bad teacher as numerous students felt confused all the time on what to expect from assessments. He barely covered actual material in class bc he preferred talking about himself. Practically everyone was teaching themselves. Find a different professor if you can.
Honestly, worst professor, and hes not handling this online courses thing well. He forces you to have a camera on or youll get a zero on your exam which violates your privacy, not to mention not everyone has access to a webcam. He doesnt even teach in lecture as he just talks about random topics.
Just avoid taking this class with Professor Michael Miller. Goes off topic every 2 minutes, and requires us to use a lockdown browser which does not allow us to backtrack.
Would not take again. Has TA do everything. His own opinion will be on the exams. K9 Did not give equal opportunity on exams for those who had cameras on laptops, while others didnt for lockdown Browser.
The bad reviews are justified. He is one of the worst professors I have ever experienced. Non stop lecture, always goes off topic, and he belittles his students. He is extremely arrogant and condescending with feedback to students. He knows he's tenured and does not care. I would not take. I hope no one continues to experience the way Miller treats
The reviews are justified, his lectures are of very poor quality and he belittles students during the lectures. All the hw and quizzes are locked behind an expensive paywall, and the tests are often not based on the hw directly. I couldn't reach him through email, just through his TAs. He's too arrogant in class to not even answer emails.
Grade in this one really depends on the exams. Hw helps a lot, so get em all in. The guy definitely wants you to know your stuff going into the exam, but if you review really good you should be fine. Offers a lot of extra credit, so take advantage of em. Overall he's a good guy, very opinionated but he knows his stuff. Overall, good prof to take.
Have you ever wanted to get robbed of your money and time? Well this is the class for you. Lectures are constantly off topic and it's centered around listening to this guy's life. Attendance is going to be mandatory due to quizzes. Also, keep in mind that the homework is behind a paywall and you will have to read to teach yourself the test material
Final exam is 55 minutes for 50 questions, given no backtracking, chapters that were not in the study guide and questions like According to Professor.... Same goes for most of the quizzes. Learnsmarts are worth nothing but take a lot of time to do and dont dive you sufficient information to study. The worst prof. Ive ever had.
You (or your team) will complete an assignment or project following a grading rubric but when he grades the rough draft the extra stuff he wants included for the final draft was never on the grading rubric. Super infuriating. This class will teach perfectionists to simply settle because you will never get out what you put in. He also talks over ppl
One of the worst Professors I have ever had. You will not learn anything on his class. He does not explain any assignments and expects perfection. The only reason I got an A was because of the extra credit. This class is already hard and stressful but he takes it to another level.
I've had Miller for three classes now and they're much the same. Lot's of assignments/quizzes and tight testing. The work can be a lot but if you study for exams they aren't bad. I do not envy those who took 495 online though, this is very much a course you need to take in person, or it will be very very easy to get confused or lost with Capsim.
One of the worst professors I've taken at UIC. He goes off in tangents and makes you do an outline for the exam which doesn't help at all. Yeah there's extra credit but who wants to go to UIC just for 1 point of extra credit? No one. His exams are timed terribly. Please do not take him for MGMT 350 or MGMT 495.
This professor literally sucks!!! His exams are so hard and not only that you have only 45 min to complete exams with 35 questions. This class might be easy online but it is very difficult because professor Miller STAYS OFF TOPIC THE ENTIRE CLASS. Pop quizzes are hard too. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
He goes off the topic. Makes exams so hard and expect us to get good grades even if he doesn't teach anything. One of the worst Proffesor i have taken at UIC. Please don't take it.
Every day I come to school and go to his class, I think about finding my purpose in life instead because that would be less waste of a time.
He seems like an cool guy personally and all but as a professor he's not that great. He is constantly going off topic talking about his personal life and on exam days he teaches new material for like over half the class session right before giving us the exam. Like I said him personally seems like a cool guy but they way he teaches is not great.
Not a bad professor. Sometimes goes on tangents... but overall nice guy. There is only ONE chapter to read/complete per wk, short quiz every 2 wks, & 3 exams total. Honestly, it's not a hard class if you just take time to study for it. Study about 3hr/week for this class, and you'll EASILY pass. He also gives extra credit throughout the semester.
This class is a big reason why my motivation to do school work dipped. Goes off task like crazy, blames every student for performing poorly rather than taking a look in the mirror at the way he teaches. This class isn't engaging at all. He does offer extra credit, but the only reason he does is because everyone's doing bad. Doesn't curve either.
just study and do the hw and u will be fine. it's not a class you can just wing to do well, but it's not rocket science either. he does have pop quizzes, which suck, but he kind of let's u know a quiz is coming up a day or two before.
Here I thought this was a class about management but it turns out it's a class about Red Lobster! Miller is a well experienced man, just not a great professor. Class isn't difficult but his lectures are always off topic, homework is just tedious, and exams are half based on his lectures, which he only gives to one half of the hall so choose wisely!
Honestly, if you're not a good test taker do not take him. He is a nice guy and the class is "easy" but the exams are what weighs the most for the exams and it's all about memorization...Attendance is taken by pop quizzes and unless you're ready to just sit and listen to him read off the lecture and have to "teach" most of it yourself, be ready.
A cool and kind guy who cares about students. Offers extra credit that should be taken advantage of. Although lectures are useless, and off task. Be prepared to have no help from the teacher assistants. The class is all self-guided and needs lots of time dedicated to it. Suggest taking it with someone else.
Great professor, he has so much experience and knows what he's talking about but the only issue is he might go off topic sometimes. Attendance was kind of mandatory because he did pop quizzes randomly. He gave us a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Had him for MGMT 350 Smart book assignment and quiz every week. Pop quizzes once in a while and attendance is taken on Acadly every day by the TAs. Had us sign a paper at the beginning basically saying "I will do my best to pass this class" and then gets mad when people don't show up to class or don't get good grades.
Miller is nice but cannot teach this course. He will criticize students for bad grades and having jobs, never offers help or kind words. We wastes a lot of class time talking about Red lobster and UIC admin. Lectures never helped with content. He expects people to go above and beyond but never gives an A. Overall, my experience was depressing.
This professor gets a lot of bad reviews because he actually makes you learn the material. I think this class was very beneficial and the professor was very helpful and offered so much extra credit. The tests are not exactly easy at all but if you study you can pass.
Miller actually tries to make you learn in he course. He does ramble a lot though. There is 7 semester pop up quizzes. 8 but he drops the lowest one. Every week you'll have a smart book and a quiz online to do which are easy but time consuming. This semester he gave a bunch of extra credit. 3 exams and attendance was recorded.
He would make you sign a paper at the beginning of the semester that you will do your best and go to class but he never did show up on time.He always shames students for doing bad but doesn't do anything. He treats his TA's so bad in front of the whole class and make fun of other countries and their government system and laws
This man is getting lots of hate, but his class is entertaining. He does go off-topic every day but he makes the class worth it. For each of the exams, he lets us bring a 2-page cheat sheet for the exams which most professors don't do very often. as long as you do the smartbooks, quizzes, in-class quizzes, and attendance you will be fine.
I don't understand the bad reviews. His exams/quizzes are EXTREMELY fair, he tells you exactly what's on them. I got a 100% on first exam cos i listened, and yes i did have to skim/read through the book (..we're college students). He does go off-tangent but his classes are entertaining, and I do learn a lot. Just do your part and you'll be fine.
While he does talk about working at Red Lobster, he truly cares about helping us learn and he gives up so many hints during class. Classes are also very engaging, even if the room is huge. Just show up and do your part and you will succeed.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. You will pass his class as long as you do the weekly readings. He is funny and is passionate about teaching. If you pay attention in class he will give you the answers to the quizzes. He is super entertaining, but i do wonder what his wife and friends think of him. He has interesting analogies (his wife must really love him)
Highly recommend taking professor Miller, he truly cares for his students grades and gave out a lot of extra credit to ensure that all students have a fighting chance of passing his class. Very personable and easy to follow his lectures!! As long as you show up to class and try NOT to fail, you'll pass
at first i didnt like miller but after a while i got used to him. lots of pop quizzes, he allows you to use an outline for the exams and drops hints on what will be on the quizzes and exams
Professor Miller would be a great professor if his grading criteria was better. He mentions that he is dropping a Exam but it does not look like its going to happen. Honestly very boring class. Offers a ton of extra credit.
Professor Miller is the goat.
Professor Miller is one of the most engaging professors at UIC and I will remember the experience he gave me my last semester! The class is lecture based, we have smartbook homeworks and quizzes due every week, 2 exams total, and Capsim every week. Make sure you choose a good group for Capsim and ask questions. The work is nice and manageable.
This is the type of professor that goes off on a tangent at the very beginning of the semester and stays on it until the end. Did no learn a single word. I was shocked this class is actually happening at a 4-year institution. You will notice something is off the very next class. Make sure you register early, so you're not forced to go with him.
I am giving Professor Miller Because he literally lied to students about dropping the lowest test score. I would have finished with a B but he chose to lie to his students. He always changes his syllabus and very unorganized. Pop quizzes were easy but tests were hard.
This class was A LOT of work. The best advice I'd say is to skim the book, take good notes, do the homework, and learn CAPSIM as soon as you can. Manage your time wisely because due dates for things tend to overlap. Overall, I enjoyed the lectures and the professor because he's trying to prepare you for the real world.
Professor Miller was great at teaching using real life examples. There are quite a few homeworks, and it sure helps one become better at business writing.
This class was 30% reading from a powerpoint, 20% random stories somewhat related to the slides, 20% random personal life stories, 15% telling people to be quiet and other warnings, then 15% actual teaching. Highly do not recommend, run
Do not expect to learn a singe a thing. tests are not easy however
terrible
this class is a joke
He is the worst professor I ever had
Absolutely a bad man!!!!! Has so many stories about his experiences and is very knowable about the real world. I would take his class again if I could.
His class feels like a captive audience forced to listen to his ramblings about his personal life. Rambling about his family, movies he watched 50 yrs ago, going into excruciating detail about heinous crimes (r*pe and murder). His ramblings are insanely inappropriate & you learn nothing in class. Attendance is graded. A if you do extra credit
If you want to get a good grade, all that matters is that you get the attendance points for showing up to class. I did not go to most classes, but still got an A on the midterm and a B on the final (with no studying.) I ended with a C in the class because he deducted 20 points for missing more than 7 classes, and I missed 5/7 in class quizzes.
Do NOT recommend. Lectures are boring, goes off topic too much. Tests felt like they had random trivia questions, not related to the material directly. If you miss more than 3 classes, he will drop you a whole letter grade down. The material is not difficult, he just makes it difficult with his exams, lots of pop quizzes and inability to lecture.
If you're looking for a professor that just reads off lecture slides, this isn't your guy. However, Professor Miller, as unconventional as he may be, is able to relate class topics to his past experiences & current world events. He's definitely not for everyone, but if you're looking for something new, I recommend taking a risk on him.
Great professor, not sure why there are so many bad reviews. Instructions are pretty clear and his lectures are interesting. Attendance is mandatory though, so make sure to go.
Honestly, if you want an easy A don't take him, but if you want to be challenged and learn something along the way he's your professor. He doesn't just read off the slides and makes class interactive by talking about current events.
All he asks is that you read the text book and comprehend it. 7 pop quizzes, based on chapter of book you are learning that week. Huge part of grade is group essay. Lecture is just him talking about whatever he wants related to the book chapter. Has interesting previous work experience, good resource if you're pre-law but aggressive personality.
Took him for 350 & 495. Old-fashion. Has valuable life experiences. Lectures can get a little boring, but he relates lectures to the real business world. He favors students who participate and show up. Don't expect an A in participation if you never raise your hand. Miss 3 classes and drops a letter grade. Pick your CAPSIM group wisely.
I took this prof for my BA 351 online. The course was really easy, and all assignments were also easy. I bearly spend 1 hour each week for this course. It's super easy. Will definitely take this professor again.
Professor Miller's class is unconventional, but engaging. While the tests can be challenging, the material is interesting. Using Unstuck AI and staying on top of the textbook can really help.
My bro Miller if your seeing this, I personally loved your class. This class was so easy to take just show up for attendance points, do what your supposed to and you'll pass this class. I don't regret taking him for a second time.
It's Miller Time guys. I heard so many bad things about him but honestly he's not that bad! His class is lecture heavy & he does tend to yap a lot, but it's alright. Lots of group work & he does kind of leave us to figure it out but it's manageable. He doesn't really give clear explanations for papers but overall hes pretty chill. I'd take again.
If you want to learn the ins and outs of the Red Lobster business model, this class is for you.
very rude professor with lots of hw. super boring lectures, talks about red lobster half the time. talks so much about capsim but is no help and has no idea how to even use it. Is disrespectful and creates a hostile environment.
I am rating only two profs on RMP for the best and the worst in my entire school years, and Prof Miller takes the crown for the best professor ever. He is very knowledgeable and caring and knows what he is talking about.
He tends to talk about random stuff a lot especially Red Lobster, his children and his disliking for Trump which can get annoying but he is overall pretty chill. I don't understand all the negative reviews the class was pretty easy and he bought us food at the last class.
This man comes off kind of cranky and a pain but he does it because he understands this the only way for kids nowadays to learn. Took him for MGMT 495, the "final course" at UIC and it went well. We went on a field trip to a business on taylor st, later a bulls game, and he PAID OUT OF HIS OWN POCKET to buy the whole class pizza TWICE in 1 sem.
He is a really nice guy, he does push his political views a lot and go off topic a lot but this was my favorite class of the semester. I don't understand all the bad reviews here I had no bad experiences with him. He took us to a local business to chat with the owner and he also gave us a graduation party out of his own pocket.
This class should not be scheduled for two hours. He gets off track A LOT and most of the time is spent reading off a power point and talking about Red Lobster or his political views that are not open for discussion. Going over the Capsim reviews for the week was the highlight of this class, which only takes about 20 at the start of every week.
