Miller is great! His notes are on powerpoint so it is easy to follow along. He does give some short essays on his tests but as long as you write plentiful you'll get the points. Just speak to him and go to his office and ask for help, it works.
He strays off the subject of the material and lectures on stuff thats not even on the test. His examples are so irrelevant to the material and he will run out of time and not even lecture on material needed for the test. The extra credit will save you!!!!

This man is BORING!!! His teaching style SUCKS!!!! He cuts you off & doesn't listen to others opinions, and overall he is just rude. I DEFINITLY do not recommend him to ANYONE!!!!
i liked this class. it wasn't like he was my favorite teacher but i think he's fairly good and not that difficult. if i took the class again i would be happy to have him.
Class was easy! Vocabulary and main concepts are all you need to know for he tests, but a lot of it you have to get on your own b/c he doesn't finish it in class. *Up to 10pts of Extra Credit on each exam from internet assignments*
he is boring, monotone, and lectures about things that are not relevant to the class.
He has a soothing voice, very easy to listen to. If you enjoy the subject then you will like his class. If you study for his tests you will do well, and he offers extra credit. Concentrate more on the material in the book than his lectures.
Taken 2 classes with and am registered for another. C'mon folks how much easier do classes get? Even the projects he assigns are a breeze. Straightforward and lets nearly everyone state their opinions. Work & Occupations & Social Stratification ta
i thought sociology was a boring subject... but then i realized that it's pretty cool, you'll like his style... lectures become interesting, and what you have to read it's not too much..he gives lots of extra credit too!
He is a good professor, he gives good notes, and he is a huge smartass. Some of the things he says are hillarious.
Seriously one of the easiest classes ever. The test took me 5 minutes and he gives tons of extra credit. Classes are pretty boring, but it's no big deal to skip-easy to catch up. Lots of common sense stuff.
Horrible Power Point presentations! His notes are the worst! No point in attending class. You can learn more by just reading text. You may or may not get paper results within semester.
Eh. Boring class. You're better off studying the book. Tests are OK. He's a good professor, but I wouldn't take him again.
I took him bc he was suggested, and it ended up being my hardest class. His lectures are pointless to attend, and I am not quite sure where he gets his test questions. I strongly advice not taking him.
He is a pretty good guy. His tests are ok but all you need to do to pass is print out the quizzes on the companion web site. He uses questions right off of there, and read the book.
very boring lectures.. horrible powerpoint presentations.. some of his notes dont make sense.. goes through them quickly, better off reading the txt, be sure to do extra credit.. i wouldnt take this class again...
the easiest class ever. hes a boring lecturer but the class is way too easy.
lectures in the dark, you can't see what you are writing. he seems not to know what he is talking about. very boring professor..sorry
Class is pointless to attend. Lectures dont go with the test at all. I was very lost by him and i think the subject in general is just dumb. i wouldn't say the class was easy or hard, but i do advise not to take him.
Class is by power point, making notes very easy to take. Tests are usually very easy. Enjoyed the class a lot, but tends to go over time. Also, most everyone who thought they'd make an A, made B's. Might be good to talk with Dr. Miller during the semester
makes the class very intresting and you learn alot the way he teaches
BOREING!!!! i fall asleep in that class cause he makes it dark...he says bad words to try to sound like a bad as* but really all you need to do is study vocab and understand what the key facts are in the chapters but ya first test will get u but its easy
Yes you have to study, but the course is very interesting and Dr.Miller allows discussion and student participation. stimulates your mind. Isn't that what college is for!
He's an alright teacher, I guess. His tests can be tough if you don't read the chapters or go over his notes. Go to the SI sessions whenever possible those help prepare for his tests. He can tend to be boring but overall he is a good teacher.
good professor...allows for and encourages class participation. the tests can be challenging if you never show up or don't read the book...but c'mon. not too hard, not too easy...just right. the lectures seem to have gotten better, more livelier...
He is very nice, but his test are little hard. If you read the chapters assign and listen to his power points, you might pass. He is very encouraging and likes to help out students.
good teacher. attend class for the notes and examples he give b/c they will appear on test. read book and focus on vocabulary & you will do pretty good
Good class. Makes you think. Prof. tries to keep students awake, but the lighting is poor, so I can understand those that fall asleep. He knows what he is talking about. I can see him struggle with objectivity at times. All in all, very good course. Read, take notes, and you will get a good grade.
He was a great teacher. His lectures really make you think. Do all the extra credit and take good notes! Do this and you should get an A!
He's a tough teacher with. He only gives Quizzes and Tests, no homework.
Very hard tests. Just tests on the text. Rarely on the notes he gives through powerpoint.
he makes the lectures interesting and relates the material to real life. the tests are easy if you study the chapters assigned (especially vocabulary) and go to the lectures. an A is possible, but you just have to work for it. miller's a nice guy
Very hard tests.
TONS of reading
I got an A in the class, but only because everything he said struck a nerve. The most liberal, communist professor Ive ever had.
Miller is a good teacher, loved his left-winged attitude. Also, if you need help he will clarify. I did have a hard time staying awake in his class, but it was my first class of the day, and lectures do that to me. I recommend Miller to anyone who needs a soc elective.
He is pretty helpful to his students when they don't understand something. He gives out 3 tests and a final, plus extra credit. I made an A, but that's because I went to class and read the text. Just keep up with that and anyone can make an A.

Alright heres the thing, YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THE KEY CONCEPTS, YOU KNOW WORDS THAT ARE IN BOLD? pay attention to those, and you will pass with flying colors in his class.
I enjoyed the class and found it pretty interesting. Go to class, listen to his lecture, and pay attention to the slides and you'll do fine!!
HARD teacher, talks about his family and you must understand what he is talking about at all times or you will get lost.

Unhelpful and unclear.
Took him for a bunch of my sociology classes. I thought he was a great professor and he was fun with his class. He didnt take himself too seriously, and thats cool.
Great professor! You do have to go to class to do well, which isn't bad becasue I found the class very interesting. He works well with students and will help you if you ask him. =)
Found it very hard to stay awake in his class and his tests were hard. I wouldn't recommend taking him unless you read EVERYTHING for class and have already found your "study style"
Tests are pretty difficult;it would be nice if he consistently provided a study guide for them. You do need to read the chapters and pay attention to his presentations. This was a very interesting class, especially when students participate.Has lots of video and audio to supplement his slides. He's very nice and funny, just wish tests weren't so hard
Lots of reading/internet stuff he's often late dull class if you attend/take good notes/read everything easy A but boring. Had to write paper for 5-wk summer class took 3 weeks to get back w/grade I'm mostly just glad it's over
Great class! Lots of material - both online & in the book - but if you listen to the lectures & come to class, you'll do great. Some days student comments ate up too much time & he would rush through or just not cover some sections. I learned so much from this class and will try to take another one of his classes.
Good lectures however sometimes too much student conversation input. Excessive audio and internet readings that I completed but not much was on exams
Good class. A lot of reading, internet and audio stuff. Teacher enjoys student participation and can make class interesting
he SUCKED, lots of reading, horrible BORING lectures, and he asks you to take your hat of in class
Very engaging discussions, lots of reading assignements however they rarely turn up on the tests. Willing to help and understanding
Great Class, Gives you 2 papers which are easy grades if you do them, test are kind of hard but if you study you should be A ok!
This professor still insists on rigorous standards and, for this and my classmates, this is entirely unacceptable.
Nice prof. Interesting lectures. Missing class is definitely NOT recommended; notes very important. If given the chance to receive extra credit, take it. 2 major essays; easy A or B if you know what you’re talking about and come across your points clearly. 2 exams and 1 final; extremely hard. Majority of the questions are from the notes; tricky.
Never had any problem with him. Miller is very nice and easy-going. His classes are very easy. Whoever said that he insists on rigorous standards is an idiot. His classes were among the easiest I've ever taken. Had him for senior seminar as well. Also easy.
Very kind and always values student's opinons. He is passionate about what he teaches and enjoys the students. Tests were moderatly difficult but he offers extra credit and other assignments.
Very good and caring prof :)
The people who say Dr. Miller is hard or has rigorous standards are either (a) lazy (b) spoiled (c) not-too-bright or (d) any combination of the above. If you can't handle Dr. Miller's classes then get out of college and free up some seats for someone who wants to *learn* and be challenged.
Mr. Miller seems like a really good man. He is sooo funny and really keeps you entertained throughout lectures. the only thing is that you have to go to class. The lectures are good but leave something lacking that takes the book to fix. study for his tests and go to class! the classes are fun so its ok! hes definently a good teacher
Professor Miller is awesome! He is incredily intelligent and his lectures are fun and understandable. Don't need to be a soc major to do well. he's very accessible outside of class. i'm taking him again next semester!
Most of the people who give negative ratings on this site are dumb/crazy/lame/all of the above. This guy is really easygoing and an all around great guy. Imagine, having to take your hat off in class or study or go to class or just generally act like an adult?! Where is the ratemystudents site?
He is extremely nice but very confusing. Tests seem random & hard to study for. Instructions are vague. you must read everything and look at ALL internet assignments.
Although his classes can go by a little slow, this class was pretty interesting. I went to class everyday and took his notes from the powerpoint. All I studied was the notes for the tests and got As and Bs on all of them. Overall I thought this class was very interseting.
He's really nice and easy going. If you go to class, take notes and study a litle bit for each test, it's an easy A. I very rarely used the book, pretty much all the info was on his powerpoints.
he's great
I really did not like his classes (Soc Strat, and Intro). I felt that his exams were kind of out there. I studied his notes, the book, and his internet assignments and was still lost at what he wanted us to cover for the exam. Most of the class failed, and he weighted everything weird so that I atleast pulled a 'b.'
AWESOME PROFESSOR! Super interesting, loved coming to this class. Tests a little difficult, study hard. Really nice guy!
Videos were interesting but lectures dry. Tests had so much stuff that was rarely mentioned - not much from texts. Good guy but crappy grading. Pulled a 'C' and i studied! Not satisfied.
Not a bad professor tests are kinda hard lectures boring but i managed a B in the class, and only two papers due the whole semester..so basically study and go to class and you should pull at least a C
Great professor definitely a subject matter expert. class attendance is a must 85% of lecture is on the test. Tests can be difficult because of the way speaks. He uses a lot of isms, ifications, atisms, you know what i mean. Thats why its important to attend the classes tests can be easy if you understand his terminology. Very interesting class
lectures are a little dry and somewhat repetative if you have taken any sociology classes. Very helpful and understanding when things come up ,and always willing to help with anything. We had 2 papers and one group project, all of which were semi easy, and interesting to do. I would suggest taking this class from this prof.
awesome professor, loved coming to his class, probably the only class i enjoyed going to. pay attention to his lectures and ull do fine, the tests are all over his lectures, and just a little bit of the book
scatterbrained ferrsure but awesome professor, his test were a little tricky sometimes, but what professor isnt? he was always willing to help, and I LOVED coming to class. his lectures were great
Great teacher! Always in a good mood and is always interesting. this is the only class i actually WANTED to go to this semester. tests can be kinda hard, but if you watch his assigned videos and what not, youll do fine!
It is a very interesting class! attending class is important but he does an amazing job explaining everything. as long you keep up with the reading and videos you'll get a high b at the least. there is one paper and it isn't too hard, you just write about your life and it is worth a lot so it is an easy grade booster.
Prof. Miller is a great professor but his tests are tricky. You have to have a crystal clear understanding about the topics inorder to get higher than a C on the test because he like to trick you and his wording on tests are wierd. You'll think you got it right but it'll be like one word that will through off the whole Question.
Buying the book was pointless because I didn't use it much after the first test and I still made Bs on that one AND the final! He's very funny and down-to-earth, extremely helpful. Go to class & take good notes-stay after you get tests back because he will go over questions and throw out questions or give extra points but you have to be there!Great
I found this class very interesting because of the videos. It's not hard at all as long as you go to class and take notes. He's funny and makes the class fun. I Highly recommend taking his class.
Tests were extremely unclear/tricky; note taking is a must. He does not teach from a book. Does not treat all students the same.
Prof Miller is by far the best sociology professor,it was an extreemly interesting class. You have 3 exams and a paper you write about yourself basically there to boost your grade. The SI is extreemly helpful.Whatever he doesnt cover in class she does. she breaks down the exams for you and tells you what to focus on. DEFF TAKE HIM!!!
This class was really easy, he is really good proff. Class is mandatory, 3 exams and a paper (about yourself, easy A). Deff go to SI, she has SI'd for him for 2 years and breaks down the exam for you to basically what is on the exam. go to class, attend SI regularly and you will get an easy A.
This is the best class i have ever taken. He is such a great proff! 3 exams, shows a lot of videos. I agree the SI was so helpful, got an A on all the exams because of her. Easy A if you go to class, watch the videos, and attend SI on a regularly (which isnt hard because she is really nice and very helpful). I would deff take him again.
Miller is a great professor. You have to attend class because most of the tests are from the notes and video clips he shows in class. Aside from that you have to watch ALL of the video assignments he gives and memorize the vocab in the book. If you do all 3 you basically get an A on the test, with or without SI. Pretty fun class!
Great proff!! This was such a great class to take, I disagree with the previous comment, the SI was AMAZING. My grade jumped 38 points from the first exam to the second after getting her help (she is a sweetheart). Easy class if you attend, read and attend SI on a regular basis (which she makes fun). Lots of fun videos and very fun lecture.
Read the material, watch the media. Go to class. Made an A in the 3-week minimester. Took him for intro and am taking him again w/o hesitation. Great teacher, knows his stuff. Has been at UTSA 30yrs for a reason.
He was super funny and super nice. Took him during the summer, easy A. Not one of those boring classes though, extremely entertaining. Didn't use the book at all.
If you really want to learn, take him. He isn't a easy A, but he's a great professor. The SI is very helpful (bumped me up from a C to a A). Going to class would be smart because he has tests questions from some lectures. There is also information in the book he doesn't teach. Recommended.
Favorite class of my semester. Class is modern with interesting videos and Prof. Miller is funny and down to earth. Class grade is only 4 tests, 90% of questions from lectures and 10% key terms from text book. The tests were so easy if you go to class, I got over 100 on 3 of them. Awesome class and professor!
took him for work & occupations in summer. great teacher. not easy A , must study the notes, and be know the matieral for the essays but such a great prof! take him!!
He's a nice man. Too opinionated though. His multiple choice tests are tricky. The answers are all worded the same, then he realizes they do sound the same and gives you credit for it. Too reliant on media for his lectures and needs to work on time management. Lets students go on and then doesn't cover stuff for test. Can be a little arrogant.
Just some advice: don't take SOC at UTSA. STUPID POLICIES. if you miss an exam have to take a short answer make up exam after the final (50% of your grade on the line in one day). But he is a good professor. Class is always interesting! Take notes, read the book, and watch mandatory multimedia! :)
This class was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Yes professor Miller is very opinionated & is the WORST at posting grades & SOME of the test questions were tricky but I still got A's on all of them. He gives points back on test review days & even curves QLP assignments. Take this class if you want an A (or at least a B).
Media! Media! Media! Who needs a teacher for this class when his consistent videos play throughout the class and babysit you. Whatever they're paying this man to sit at his desk and hit the play button, is too much.
You do not have to go to class . He does not check attendance. You do not have to buy the book , it is provided online (he gives you the url in the syllabus). There are three test && three assignments throughout the entire year. I did not study for one test and received a B in the class so if you do study you will be fine. TAKE HIM!!!
I thought this class would be easy but it was more difficult than I thought. You are expected to learn all the material by yourself. He has a lot of media (seems like 5 videos every night) and uses an online textbook quite a bit. You don't have to go to class but the material he lectures over in class will be on the test.
Well he is a good teacher, except for the fact that he lost one of my assignments and a few of my friends assignments, he should learn to be more responsible considering he is a university professor.
You don't need to memorize people, dates/eras, branches of sociology... This is nowhere near the difficulty of AP Psychology. His tests are over the bare essentials of the online textbook and the video clips you're assigned to watch. His lectures are mostly filled with jokes and interesting statistics. 3 papers that take 30min to write. Easy A.
Such a sweet professor! online book - read it! assigns videos, just watch them all a couple days before the test (watch out some of them are 1-2 hours) they are interesting though. Go to class, lots of test questions are based on in class clips. Interesting lectures, funny guy. 3 tests - know vocab , 3 Q reports (which are easy)
Amazing Professor. Attendance is not mandatory but there's not a book so class notes needed to study for exam. This is a fun class with interesting topics so you will want to attend. 3 total exams & 1 group presentation. Highly recommend; exams are super short so you can't miss many questions. Best professor ever. I would definitely take him again!
Amazing Professor. Attendance is not mandatory but class notes are needed to study for exam. I never opened the book & made an A. I did well but I thought the exams were hard. 3 total exams & 1 group presentation. Watch ALL assigned videos since they will be on exams. Best professor ever. I would definitely take him again, what an asset to UTSA!
It may take a while to get adjusted to how he gives his lectures, but once you get the hang of it, you're good. Notes are very clear, but he speaks away from what he provides so pay attention to what he says and not just what's on the board. Pretty neat course to take.
If you don't show up for class to take notes you want pass and you have to write the notes no taking picture of them on your cell phone.! Test are easy but you have to watch all the videos on you homework assignment, read your notes and the book to pass the test.!
Lectures consist of pushing his political agenda and attempting to coerce the class into participation in the Google+ community (and then going over every single thing posted there). Attendance is not mandatory, but will be helpful as most of the test questions are taken from what was discussed in class. Most frustratingannoying professor ever.
Probably my favorite class this semester. May be a little easy to fall asleep if you don't really have much interest in the class but topics are very relatable. Although his lectures/assignments are pretty much a majority of the test, reading the book is important in order to get an A.
Definitely my favorite class this semester. He is very funny and very helpful, genuinely cares about us learning. Tests are easy if you go to class and pay attention, also know the bold terms from the book. Attendance is not mandatory, but you should go to get an A. He gave us a free online book, but I never used it. NO FINAL
Professor Miller is a great professor. He explains what you need to do in order to reach your goals and touches on the subjects very well. Make sure to do the homework on the syllabus because the material WILL show up on the exams. Also, you can go and talk to him whenever you may need help and he is happy to offer it to you.
He is unorganized because he'll say he's going to upload a study guide but won't do it til 2 days before the exam. He told us our first exam won't be based off the book but it turned out almost all the questions came from the book and not lecture. Take very good notes, he doesn't upload slides. Give a lot of details on easy questions on exams.
Awesome professor he will work with you, he is easily approachable and has good powerpoints. Make sure you read and watch video assignments but he is good and fair.
I never know what is going on in this class b/c he never follows the syllabus. Im an A student and this class is giving me serious trouble. All tests are online and it's nothing like what he talks about in class. I don't recommend taking him if you care about your GPA/ hate sociology, I use to love it & now i hate it. Tests are 90% of your grade.
Test are only which is a good thing, stuff from the lectures does not come a lot on the exam it is based more on the textbook and videos he post on BB. 3 exams and the final plus one Q-assigment with a tough grade
Class is super boring, teacher is unorganized. Have to stay on top of this class, tests are composed of notes in class and online videos or readings. Hard class since he makes it boring.
Professor Miller prepares his own online lectures and provides various types of learning material such as videos, articles, documentaries, etc. The class consisted of 3-4 tests, one paper, and a final test. There's a lot of material to cover but as long as you take good notes, you'll do great and learn a lot. I definitely recommend his classes!
Be warned! He teaches with Youtube videos and then gives you a study guide, which you think its heaven sent, but it's completely useless. The exam are crazy worded and it's 50 question with 1hr and 15minutes. This does not give you time to go through your notes without running out the clock. #worstclassever #takeanotherclass
This is the only professor and class that I have had an issue enough to rate them! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I wish that I would have checked his rating before registering for his class and it would have saveD me money and late nights studying just to drop it so it would not affect my 4.0 GPA. He didn't even respond to emails! Worst class ever!!!!!!!
The Textbook is not used in this course because the professor provides readings/videos for each chapter needed. No HW only tests, he does hand out a review but I found his tests to be extremely hard and tricky.. The videos can be 2-3 hours long so you can't control F your way through the readings. This course requires discipline and hard work.
So many videos assigned for each module, and you have to watch the to answer questions on the exams. Didn't really read, but created a document with all the vocabulary to reference during the exam. Exams are the only grades, but overall the class isn't too bad.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
If you are taking a full load of courses I would not recommend. To do well you need to be really invested in learning and retaining the material. Your final grade only comes from 3 tests (lowest of 4 is dropped). This felt like a graduate course instead of undergrad. However, if you have the time, the class is very interesting.
Professor Miller is very sweet! Took his Intro the Soc online and there was a heavy load of reading and videos to watch. Most of the videos he assigns are roughly 10-15 minutes but some are hours long. Need to make lists of all vocab (alphabetized) for all exams. There's technically only 3 exams aside from the final but he drops one of those exams!
Took this class online. Grades are strictly based on 4 exams (lowest dropped) and the final. His test are NOT on quizlet. He words his test very complex. His video lectures he posts are very very boring, but informative. It would be helpful to create a GroupMe & google doc and do the study guides w/ your classmates.
This class is an easy A if you read the textbook and simply take notes. I took the online course, so organizing your notes for virtual exams is VERY helpful. Our grade is solely based on exam performance but Miller is open to face-to-face meetings if you're struggling. He drops the lowest exam grade, only complaint is there is A LOT of coursework.
Took Prof Miller for two online classes and enjoyed them. Consists of three exams and a final; he drops the lowest exam grade. A lot of modules with videos and articles, which can be tedious but not difficult. My only advice is, take good detailed notes (you won't find the answers to the questions online) and you will get a good grade!
This is the hardest Professor I've EVER had and I'm a Junior, gonna pass one class and withdraw from another. Very complicated online classes. Have to devote lots of time and effort to each class, exams are difficult, feels more like a graduate class than undergrad class. Take only if you are very disciplined on online classes. He is difficult.
Only 4 exams based on video modules that are long and mundane. He injects his own personal beliefs and in opinions into the videos and expects you to answer test questions about his own beliefs. I took this class to learn real information, not his personal beliefs. I'm ashamed that this professor uses his platform in such an unprofessional way.
Class is an Easy A if you do everything asked.
4 Exams in this class, no extra credit work or homework. Do Not take this class unless sociology is you major!!!!!!!!!!!! He treats this class like we are all going for our PHD in sociology! All the exams are based on his videos where he talks about his opinion for about 90% of the time and the other 10% are actual facts. Terrible class.
Definitely time-consuming. There are only 4 exams and the lowest grade gets dropped. There is not ANY classwork and very little extra credit offered (literally only 2 points). He asks questions from the videos he posts, the readings, and questions at the end of the chapters. The final has questions from all of the exams.
Took him for Social Stratification and the lectures are long boring and dreadful. I would not recommend taking this instructor. I believe there is a way to put all the learning material into concise and efficient ways to teach students.
I took this as an online summer class and it was the hardest thing I have ever done. There are only 3 tests and a final exam. The tests are 50 questions and timed so be ready to be STRESSED! The professor offers 2 points extra credit to your final grade which can be helpful if you really need it. Do not take this class for an easy grade.
There are only tests in this class. He does not offer but two 1 point extra credit opportunities. Lowest test grade is dropped (but not the final). There are reading and videos per assigned section, and he does pull questions from the videos for the test, so make sure you're ready to read and watch the videos. Make sure to take notes.
Since I enjoyed the material I found this class really interesting. When you read the assigned chapters and articles, and watch the videos, be sure to take good notes through a program like OneNote. This makes it easier to study and reference during open note tests. Only a few tests which make up your grade. Great prof!
He posts a lot of material to go over and make sure you do because it'll all be on the test. Tests aren't easy but they're not super hard either. Drops the lowest test score which helps the grade.
This is a very difficult course because of all the online lectures and additional videos and readings. Not to mention the only grades for the course are all exams. You will definitely have to work for it but if you study study study you will pass. Dont sign up thinking you will get an easy A as a lot of people do because its taken as an elective.
All readings and lecture videos are required in order to be successful in this class. You must be a good note taker and have a photographic memory in order to be well prepared for his exams. Do not take more than one of his courses per semester because all the exam dates will be on the exact same dates, no exceptions.
for being an online class this was one of the hardest classes ive had. hes an awful professor, lectures are super dull and boring. he gives you a lot of things to work on for his tests; his tests are pretty hard. theyre worded weird and confusing. after having many issues this professor answered 0 of my emails. i would seriously pass on taking him
Tough tests with lots of reading and videos to get through, however, he provided a study guide for each exam, and during the pandemic was extremely communicative, empathetic and offered extra credit. Receptive to feedback and fair grader. Great professor to have during these tough times.
Definitely would not recommend. His grading scales are confusing- he complicates A LOT of things and the work load for his classes are ridiculous. His exams are VERY specific, so even if you have a general understanding of the material that will not be enough. Im a straight A student and this was the hardest A Ive ever gotten.
I like that he made sure all of the material was clear and made sure we understood the concepts.
One of the worst classes I have taken in awhile. I would not recommend. The amount of reading, lecture and documentaries is ridiculous. He expects you to remember every small detail. But the main thing I disliked is the lecture videos of someone washing dishes, him eating, his phone notification rings and using filler word "uh" over 300 times.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. DO NOT TAKE HIM. DO NOT TAKE HIM. For those in the back, DO NOT TAKE HIM. If you are debating even a little, DO NOT TAKE HIM. Take anything else besides him. Did I mention, DO NOT TAKE HIM
Avoid this Professor at all costs. 4 exams for the whole semester. 5 quizzes for extra credit but only gave 4. Exam 3 and 4 are back to back. Ridiculous amount of reading. Study guides are not helpful AT ALL. last lecture video states he is tenured and cant be fired, that rule needs to change. AWFUL PROFESSOR. STAY AWAY!!!!
Negative reviews are all true. This is the worst Professor I have EVER taken. His lectures are boring and filled with the word Um. The amount of reading is insane . Posts links to to video to watch and they dont even work but then includes questions about them. Every single exam he added pts after everyone was done due to errors he made. Not worth
I do not recommend taking this Professor. He is MIA for most of the semester and doesnt respond to emails. He tests on his lectures mostly. You will read several Wikipedia pages of history stuff. Know the concepts but all be prepared for detailed exams in the beginning. Take ALL the quizzes & do extra credit, that is the only way you will pass.
I took this course over the summer; each module has dates of suggested completion. His lectures are hard to get through because he talks slow and quietly. If you take good notes on the material he gives you, then you will do well on the tests. He also does give extra credit quizzes and on course evaluation.
DO NOT TAKE!!!! Trust me when I say this class is extremely challenging, you are graded on only tests, there is extra credit available through quizzes. In this class, expect to watch over 100+ videos and take very detailed notes on them for the test, read many articles, and watch movies and take notes on them for the test. DO NOT TAKE!!!

The approach he takes to teach this class is an extremely poor method. His lectures are voice-over videos, and he is extremely monotone and dull when speaking. The material is interesting, but he loses me most of the time. I would avoid taking him.
Although he gives extra credit opportunities if you only want to take this class as an elective because you just need something I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM. His emails are rather rude and he has kept our grades locked for the entire semester. He makes you calculate your grade which you can't be sure you are even doing right.
Graded only on tests and a few extra credit opportunities.
Worst class I have taken at UTSA. Half questions from exams come from articles that require subscriptions, so you automatically get them wrong. Hours of addition reading/watching material other than useless textbook. Took this class in need of free electives & will most likely have to take a summer class after this. Not enough time for exams!
I never interacted with the professor but his class is an easy A. There is no homework and only exams are mandatory. Even if you don't keep up with the lectures, the exam questions are fairly self-explanatory. There are ample extra credit opportunities so take advantage of them.
The class is easily outlined in what is expected to be completed and by what date. I did not do all the materials provided however his exams were easy and often going over key concepts within the modules. It is a great course for self sufficient students.
The intro class was okay, no homework to be honest, just filled with exams, nothing that occurs every week. No textbook to buy.
Do not take this course if you are looking for an opportunity. This is not the place to look. Have a great day.
He was great, no textbook required; if you wanted to learn, you needed to put in the work. However, he was easy and accessible.
You get out what you put in - do all the modules and take good notes, and the exams will be easy. Knowledgeable professor who cares about his class and his students. Sometimes offers extra credit. Workload is manageable and self-paced. Professor is helpful and encourages discussion. Had him twice and he was great both times.
I loved this professor! He was very kind and clearly loved his work. I found the class easy, and his exams (at least for the online class I took) were all open note/book, including the final.
Didn't really get to talk to him just read what he gives you & you'll be fine on exams. Not proctored
