great professor. He explains things well and he's really funny. curves pretty well. you can get an A if you don't slack off.
Muller is awesome. He is a funny easy going guy. Always wearing painter type clothing. Intelligent and a good teacher. one of my faves
Awesome teacher, great online notes(Lecture, quizes, and old exams are online), always gave review sessions before tests. Has a good sense of humor, and gives extra credit on his tests.
this class is awesome..the best bio class at UIc...the lectures are fun...the powerpoints are awesome and useful..
Muller is a great teacher. Posts lecture notes online which is very helpful when studying for tests. If you keep up with lecture, this class will be fun and easy.
Good professor! I was lucky to get an A, so he curves pretty well. Just study hard and you'll get the A... During the school year, he takes the top 4 out of 5 exams (including final). The final is hard, so make sure to do well on the 4 exams.
Very smart and funny professor. He is really good at teaching and will help you out if you ask. Don't slack in this class and you will learn a lot. One of my favorite classes!
Overall a great professor. He not only is extremely knowledgeable, but is also great at relating to his students.
The class is pretty easy and he makes lectures fun. His tests are easy too if you memorize his notes, which are all posted online. There is very little work you have to do compared to other classes.
Hes a funny prob but in order to do well in the class u need to read the book. His lectures can sometimes b unclear but the book clarifys the info. If u r willing to put in a little extra effort the class isnt too bad.
i barely did anything in this class except read his lecture notes, which goes straight into the exams! he's pretty organized and labs were kinda boring though. cool professor, the material just has to be memorized and you can get a B easily. if you actually go the lectures and listen and take down additional notes, an A is totally possible
I love this class simply because the professor is so funny! And I like biology, of course...
Great guy, very funny, keeps lecture moving at a good pace, exams easy if you study material and almost identical to past exams. Online materials a great help. Overall excellent, take if u can.
tests are damn hard. he thinks everyone is a genius or something

Great professor and lectures help as long as you go. Ive gone to every test and done good on everything, but the tests are hard as hell I studied a week ahead of time and got a 30 out of 100. The class average was 57. Just study your butt off for the tests
very organized and sometimes funny
Careful! Don't let yourself get deceive by his popularity and coolness, his exams are extremely hard! He needs to apply his coolness somewhere else
he's funny...but he goes too fast and when u ask him to explain it he'd still explain too fast! exams are extremely hard.beware.seems easy but noooooooo wayyyyyy
i think he is great and makes it very easy to study for the exam (lots of sample exams and quizes). i've done great at exams and got an A without having to take the optional final. i would recomend him.
MULLER IS HOT! Yeah...cool guy but tough exams. Although I think he does a well job on explaining his notes. However, it would really help if you read the chapters before going to lecture because he goes through them fast. Do all the labs and quizzes and study a decent amount for the tests and you should be fine.
Great Professor..way better than kelso..but here's the catch..tests are hard...kelso sucks as a professor but his tests are easy..Muller does post a lot of sample exams and practice questions..that should help you out..But I still suggest you take him if you're a bio major..if you do all the online quizzes and take all the labs..you should get A.
Amazing teacher! Really great, approachable, explains things well. It's not an easy class!
kind of weird, plays favorites with the pretty girls so guys beware
As long as you go to lecture, you will do fine on the exam. He gives you the power points that he uses for lecture online, but I definitely recommend still attending lecture!! The labs he puts together are actually really fun and are definitely aimed toward teaching elementary education, unlike the other Nats courses.
Is a pretty good teacher.
I really like Mullers approach to teaching. The class is real tough compared to other courses but you do learn alot. If you study for the exams you will fair well. You really gotta know the concept memorization will not help.
Those who don't like him are the ones who do not study. He is a pretty laid back professor but do not expect the easy way out. Muller is a great man
Compared to other professors I think Mike is a great teacher. If you work hard and acturally study for the exam you can get a B easily just dont be overconfident. The below post read i studied for a week and recieved a 30 its not mullers fault. Read his questions carefully,
He was a ok professor, He cares about what he does and lectures were very interesting but, you have to study. In order to do well on his exams you have to go to lecture and memorize his notes. I suggest spending 3 hours each day just writing his notes word for word and keep doing this a few more times. Then you will do good in this class. I got a B
Mike Muller is an awesome teacher. As the other posts state, you HAVE TO MEMORIZE his notes! His questions can be tricky. He is totally laid back and always available for help. Awesome guy and cool teacher. One of the best I've dealt with at UIC.
Not impressed. Tried too hard to be funny and prove hsi comic book chops while skimming. Likes to zap you with trick questions that further prove his coolness. Often refers to self in 3rd person. No bitter grapes here, I got an A, but it's all memorization of his lecture notes. He focuses on minutae. Lab was dull. Almost killed my interest.
Mike muller is the best bio teacher I have ever had. He tells a lot of jokes and tries to make the material comprehenisble for you in any possible way. he is eccentric, fun and very amiable. mike Muller deserves a big kiss for doing a great job, even though the exams are challenging if you go to lecture you will be fine.
he's a really good professor. his exams are mostly from his lectures. his lectures are not boring compared to other bio teacher because he speaks with energy. he finds ways to make the subject relate to college students. for some reason, he likes to talk about sex during lectures. he'll give extra credit . I highly recommend him!
GREAT PROF!!!! Hilarious at many times....one of the guys! Overall....lectures online....labs are EXTREMELY easy....just go!!!! Good class....a little hard in the begining though....
He's one of my favorites. Most of his exams are bits and pieces of previous exams so just memorize answers from sample exams. Lectures were ok. I rarely went but when I did, it wasn't so bad. He's a funny guy.
super easy. easy to get along with and his test are fairly reasonble. i got an a in his class no problem. highly recommend him!
I had him for only a few weeks but he was awesome. He is very funny and knowledge. Doesn't even look like a professor due to his laid back appearance (I thought he was a TA at first). Take him
I really liked Mullers approach to teaching the materal. As the previous post says he does present the materal with energy/enthuasm which makes you want to learn. On average, his tests usually have a 80% class avg better than Molumby. I would disagree with him being funny I thought he was more straught forward then a standup come(Molumby)
He is a cool professor. He tries to make class interesting. If you study his notes he gives on website, you don't even need book.
memorize the lecture notes and use the book for in depth clarification, if necessary...i got an A in the class even with the first edition textbook...great professor!
Funny guy, his tests were hard, but if be sure you check out the practice exams. The style doesn't change too much
An extremely funny and helpful guy - it is a good thing that he has notes online, though, because his handwriting sucks! Exams are online - there is no excuse for not getting a good grade in his class...
Excellent! Has great notes for every section. He stresses the important points of the notes he posts on Blackboard by writing them on the overhead during lecture while thoroughly explaining to us what he is talking about. He is easy to understand and funny. Keeps you awake!
the best!!!! so funny and helpful! you dont need a book! study his lecture notes, to class and study the SAMPLE EXAMS!!! my highest grade (98) was on the last exam...i only studied the sample exams for that exam! it helps a lot...it just took me a while to realize:(
Funny, helpful, and an interesting lecturer. Tests are hard but manageable. Overall, a great 100-level bio teacher.
what can i say, the Michael Jordan of professors.
awesome teacher! This guy makes you interested in a material and he knows his stuff. They should make other teachers sit in and learn from him.
mike muller you rock my world! i did absolutely nothing in his class and i got an A. bethany brown is the best TA. you ask her questions and she basically gives you the answers. TAKE HIM, TRUST ME.
This man is awsome he rocks my socks! He makes lecture fun while teaching you stuff. Id party with his crazy ass!
I miss Professor Muller! He is a great professor and very nice. He was one of my favorite professors at UIC.
Great professor, no one at UIC even comes close to his teaching style and his ability to keep your attention - I'm gonna miss him. Be warned though, the textbook is dry as hell, but Muller's lecture notes allow you to bypass reading most of the textbook (just use the textbook to clarify some things) - he even posts 5-6 sample exams per exam.
Easy A -- optional final - great professor, what more can you ask for from a class? Labs were alright, kinda boring, but you can finish up pretty fast if you read it beforehand and know what you're doing. Mike is great at communicating with students and replies to emails fast - uses blackboard too, and test grades are usually posted within a day.
Mike's a really funny guy who doesn't take academia that seriously. Exams were really easy if you study past exams that are on his website. Lectures were ok - a little fast at times. Go to his review sessions - they were REALLY helpful in studying for tests - he goes through most of what you need to know. Does give attendance points using iClicker.
Not as easy as previous comments indicate. Shifted teaching toward higher order learning, made the exams considerably harder. Class averages for fall 2009 are around a 65-70 with no curve. All in all, no longer an easy A, be prepared to work somewhat harder.
Mike is extremely FUNNY!! He makes lectures very entertaining. However exams are not easy and there is no curve. Average on third exam was 65/100. He seems easy but this class takes much study time and effort.
awesome guy and class! Actually enjoyed lecture... made me laugh. Clickers for attendance but you can always hand it off to someone if you will miss. Fall 09 was tougher because switched to a new higher learning but DO THE PRACTICE TESTS esp. ours and summer 09 because they are closer to what it will be like. I acually read, helped my A. enjoy it:)
Muller is a GREAT lecturer - he makes bio relateable to students, mostly via sexual metaphors haha.Memorize his notes & do practice tests for his exams, attend/do the labs and you will be fine. If you do well enough on his tests, don't bother with iClicker attendance- just watch LectureCapture. I never went to class, never read the book & got an A
Professor Muller is one of the best science professors I had at UIC. He posts a bunch of sample exams on his website and posts notes online. Study his online lecture notes really well and used the book to clarify material. This class isn't bad. I got an A, plus Muller makes it enjoyable with his jokes.
he is a great guy and all but the exams have become way too hard. unnecessarily hard. good luck
This class is awesome, but Prof. Muller does tend to put you to sleep sometimes, his jokes in lecture are amusing, but the class as a whole is kind of redundant! While the material, homework, and labs are easy the exams are ridiculously hard!
The lectures are like lullaby(s). He typically just reads off the slides and ask i-clicker questions to take attendance. The labs, online quizzes are fairly easy, but the exams are HARD. The exams are terrifyingly hard unless you've already had basic knowledge about biology already.
He is a good person. Labs and discussion are easy. However, his exams are hard. He also wants to you to know why rather than memorize. That technique is better left for Chemistry Muller. Average for exams were all in mid C's. If you are not an independent learner, do not take this class. Wait for the spring semester and take other sections.
Muller is an amazing professor! His exams are hard but you learn so much in the class considering the amount of material that is covered. If you read the book and study his notes on a regular basis you should be fine. The i-clickers and mastering biology assignments are easy points. Hes also really funny which makes lecture enjoyable
He is a really good proffesor he will make sure you learn your material.
I don't know why these reviews rave Professor Muller. HIs exams are ridiculously HARD. Its a 100 level course! THeres waay to much material to learn. He wants you to understand it...but thats better off for Chemistry. I use to love biology...not anymore
This was the hardest A I've earned yet. I took the summer course so it was a lot of material crammed into 8 weeks. His tests are HARD. I managed an A on 1st 2 tests and B on 3rd. I was one of maybe 10 students out of 100+ to get an A on any test. They are going for higher order learning but they only test HARD. Homework and labs help pad for points
Muller is a great professor who actually cares about helping students learn. People complain because his tests are 'hard', but I found them easy with a little studying (i.e. 10+ hours). It's a very enjoyable class with a lot of payoff if you pay attention, go to class, read the readings, and ultimately try to learn the material.
This class was WAY TOO HARD for a 100-level class. His lectures are essentially useless as he doesn't even go off of his notes, but reading the book is also pointless, because his tests are based off of the lecture. Lab is incredibly boring and tedious, and he does little to make class or his tests any better. I HATE THIS CLASS!!!
This class was ridiculously easy. Memorization is crucial in this class. You memorize all the exams. you get an A. that's all you gotta do. Lecture is very helpful. Labs are a waste of time. they are horrible. They gave me free points.but its not hard. you just gotta do your stuff and youll be fine ;)
Just pay attention in class and you will be fine. I messed around in class so I ended up pulling all nighters before his test, but his online notes are perfect and kept my grade up.
Best teacher ever, no studying, easy lab points, easy tests.
This guy is amazing! Take him, you won't regret it. He honestly makes you love the subject. Easy class, easy exams, easy labs. OG professor
Probably one of my favorite professors I had at UIC. He is really funny, has great lectures, teaches you the subject well, and is very understanding. Awesome class. He actually made it a pretty easy class too. Take this guy. Muller is a great biology professor.
His lectures are great and you have to go if you want the iclicker points, labs and discussions are easy points if you do them, the new grading on the online homework makes it hard to get 100% but he drops a good portion of everything in the class. His exams are sort of tricky so make sure to get high grades on everything else.
This professor is a G! I took his summer class and he's awesome! I didnt do so well on the tests but I got an A on the final which was super easy! I ended up getting an A in the class! But it wasnt easy! You have to study! & do good on the mastering bio so you can get all your points. Also go to class for iclickers! these are easy points!
Muller is a great guy. Approchable, friendly, smart. This guy knows his stuff. Going to him with questions really helps alot. Just study throughout the unit and you'll be fine. Exams are a lot to cover but as long as you're investing a little bit of time to study you'll be fine. Awesome lecture, easy labs. Overall an amazingly easy, fun course.
Mike Muller is a really good teacher. There is no way anyone should fail this class! He has plenty of resources available to us and he really makes sure the information is delivered in a way we can relate to. I would take anything that he teaches.
Easy class if you keep up with the work. Exams are not hard if you read the chapters along with his powerpoint slides. Pay particular attention to i-clicker questions which appear in a slightly different form on his exams. His exams only test what is on his powerpoints. but the book explains the finer details. Do all Mastering and lab homework.
I played on my laptop during his lectures, never opened the book and still got an A in the class. Im not the smartest kid, it's just that he tends to recycle tests quite a bit. FORMULA FOR AN A: 1) Learn all the bullet points on the study guide before the day of the exam. 3) Take the last 3 fall practice exams on the day of the exam, and know them
He is a good teacher but just be prepared to work extremely hard in this class!
Muller is great! He's funny in lectures, often cracks jokes, and is super approachable. If you do the work, it's pretty easy to do reasonably well. He goes over EVERYTHING in lecture, and you also get more points if you go.
Professor Muller is a boss. He's so funny and as a student who loathes science, he made this class definitely more enjoyable. Read your textbook, look at the practice test, come to lecture, and it's an A. Lab isn't bad either. It's pretty simple, just labs and one research paper. Professor Muller is definitely worth having as a teacher.
He is awesome. he's Super smart yet simple for the many idiots in this non-major class. Biology was actually understandable for me and Ive take 3 bio classes in my liftime lol maybe im an idiot 2 either way loved the professor (he's funny af) and despised the (unneccesarily long) labs but they were ok.. Great professor & pretty cool class overall.
Professor Muller is very clear and makes dull topics easy to understand. His lecture was combined with Professor Malchow's, and I preferred Muller. His portion of the test (plants) was fairly simple. Make sure you attend lecture as the iClicker is used to track attendance. Pay attention, look over previous tests, and you should be fine.
GREAT professor, I actually miss his lectures. He makes things SO EASY to understand and is very willing to help his students as he tries to relate to us everyday and make things easier. Do all of your online work, look at past tests, and you will get an A. No effort? That's the only way you will fail. Not that challenging and learned A LOT.
Pretty great professor. He emphasizes that lectures suck so he tries to really teach the material. Likes it when people are engaged to the class and answer questions. Really funny guy. TA was new so they were kind of tough on grading which should've got me that A. But highly recommended
great teacher. very enthusiastic, super helpful, very clear. awesome.
Nice guy and clear cut explaining. Very accessible and friendly to students. But definitely try to get on his good side as one annoying person in my class has done. Talks to him before every lecture, kind of irritating.
Damn yo....I'm here to get knowledge and a good grade, who he talks to is none of my business!! Great teacher and very friendly!!
I am not even a science student and took the class for the fun of it and wow did I underestimate bio!! Lots of detail but this guy's awesome! Breaks things down and simplifies it for you. Funny too. He may have some people he likes more than others but is fair to all. He does his job fairly for a teacher. But there are special people. :)
Nice guy! I wish he did more classes. Drinks way too much coke though...distracts me during class. But do mastering, go to class, and study honestly, you will do well.
This guys hilarious and really cares about bio, and he loves cats so that's a plus. Do not buy the book. We literally never used it. He even tells you not to buy it. The mastering bio you can look up all the answers online. No curve, but a supper enjoyable class!
don't study off from simply by making flash cards. This is not memorization class. it is a bio class. He really chellenged me how to approach biology. I still suck at bio, but I think it was interesting class.
Muller is awesome and hilarious! Definitely not an easy A, you really have to work for it. Tests are also very difficult. He usually makes his tests off the power points and uses past exam questions. If I could take him for another science course I would. He simplifies everything for you so it's understandable. Overall, great professor!
Definitely read the book if you're not good at memorizing stuff straight from the ppts. Make sure you get full points on the labs and discussions because every point counts. Do every possible practice test to get an idea of what he wants you to know. He recycles a LOT of questions. Easy A IF you read and make an effort.
Muller is like your cool uncle, in professor form. Basically, he is the most approachable professor you'll ever have and he is crystal clear as to what he expects from you. Past exams make real exams easy to study for. He also does lecture capture, posts ppts before class, and allowed us to drop our lowest exam score. Wish I could have him again!
Muller is an amazing professor. He strives to make you learn, not memorize. Always go to lecture! I love how he breaks things down slowly and then summarizes before moving onto the next slide. You need more than a day to review lecture captures. Get a good TA, watch lecture capture, and get all the easy pts! I got a B but bc I didnt study enough
Great professor. I had him for BIOS 100, and took him again for BIOS 104. He really wants his students to learn and will go above and beyond any other professor I have ever met. Definitely one of my favorites.
Only had him for 4 lectures and feel robbed! I love this guy! Where has he been hiding all this time?! I can only imagine how my understanding of biology would've been if he were teaching me the whole semester.I am not a bio guy but love it cuz of Muller. I would almost marry him if I could. He's that awesome!
He is a nice guy but not easy because he doesn't joke around with the material but makes it learnable. He wants you to learn so will not babysit you. He's awesome, take him!!
Best Bio professor EVER.
Muller is a really good professor that tries his best to keep his class engaging. There is a lot of material but he is a great lecturer and his ppt slides are useful for studying. Muller has a background in education and incorporates his knowledge into his teaching style and the structure of the exams (there is a group portion). Highly recommended!
Mike's awesome. HILARIOUS and probably the most down-to-earth professor you can come across. Makes EVERY topic interesting during lectures. Talented presenter given there's soooo much to cover. You have to try to fail because he makes EVERYTHING available to us. Talk to him if you're confused. Wish I could have him for every bio class!
Muller is so hilarious and fun it's like I'm not even in a class. You know exactly what to expect from him from the first day, and if you put the effort into the class, it's easy enough to pass.
Muller is a great teacher. He makes things interesting, but there's still a ton of things to remember. He's very tricky with the tests. All the past tests are available to study online and on your actual test he'll make the questions similar, but tweak them. I found it really difficult to study for this class. Be sure to go to the review sessions.
He was awesome! Period. He really goes out of his way to help his students. He takes his time explaining things and he also uses lecture capture so attendance is not really necessary. You need to study for his tests though! Past exams were VERY helpful and questions for exams were pulled straight from there.
He was an amazing teacher. It was very easy to concentrate in his class. He WANTS you to do well so he goes out of his way to set up as many resources as possible for you to utilize! USE THEM. On BB and in SES. Tests are good if you pay attention in class. He challenges you in the best way. iClicker questions are actually interesting. Does Echo.
Had him for bio 100 and boy was it a rough beginning! His exams are really tough, however if you study at least 1 week prior to the exam you'll do fine. He also re-uses past exam questions so study those and you'll be at advantage. Labs are super easy so don't even stress about those. I stated the class off with a low B and ended it with an A. :)
Amazing, hilarious, and engaging professor. Exams are a breeze if you take the practice exams (he reuses a lot of questions) and go to the review sections where he's be very helpful and straightforward about what you need to know. No curve but you can drop an exam if you take the final. Bombed one exam but still got an A in the class.
He made lectures entertaining and the topic is the only thing that could possibly make it a bit dry. Defiantly do the homework it is easy points and it helps out alot
Cool guy. Currently have him for plants in my class. Makes it very interesting and is straightforward instructor. I wish there was an ice cube option like the red chili pepper. Although he isn't necessarily the guy women would run to sign up for class, he's cool. Like a goofy big brother. Which is good because he's a teacher, not eye candy.
This is one of the most enthusiastic professors I've had for an older guy. For his age, dude is awesome as ever. Looks young but I'm assuming he's about 55 and usually when they are older, they are not clear and hard. His material is challenging but he's also clear in explaining. Pretty good with email and questions. Recommended. Take him.
Mike is hands down the best teacher I'v had so far at UIC. He really cares about you understanding the material and all past exams are available to study off of. Best way to pass this class is to take good notes throughout lecture and take as many practice exams as you can to study. He reuses a lot of past exam questions. Overall great class.
Best professor in UIC period. Beware! the exams get progressively harder. TIPS: study powerpoints, like really well AND previous exams. Easy A. Beware of horrible TA's.
He gives about 10 past exams per exam and if u wanna pass study ALL his past exams because 80% of the questions are copy and paste. Thays all you have to do dost waste time with the book or powerpoints!!!
Don't buy the book, didn't open it once, you need the lab workbook and online code. Don't take notes, instead listen closely during lecture, study power points and past exams and you will do great. Class is not easy, but can't complain best teacher i have experienced at UIC, super nice, helpful, clear, funny, and just a great guy. However, STUDY.
Super chill guy, great professor. Material is somewhat difficult but as long as you study you'll do well
Take Muller!! Im a freshman and really struggled with the content of this class at first. There's a lot of info to memorize and you have to apply it to confusing questions. But I started really paying attention and he's great with explaining and the past exams are helpful for studying. He drops lowest exam score if you take the easy final!
Muller is the type of professor that is not out to get you. He is very understanding and provides all the material you need to pass his tests. Accepts late work at no penalty. He did not give a final exam which was nice. Would definitely recommend.
Chill guy, knows his stuff, super helpful. gives online homework but doesnt really matter if you do it on time. His tests are recycled questions from previous years and he has them all linked so students can view them. Group project can be a pain so choose wisely (you have to learn and present about research being done at the school).
He's an engaging and animated lecturer who makes the material come alive. For a science class, it actually bordered on the enjoyable. Beware of his exams, though, which are deceptively difficult. Use the old exams he posts to study for them.
No book necessary, just get the lab and the online code. Homework is super easy (right out of his powerpoints), and lab was interesting and fun. Group project isn't terrible, and you're given a lot of time to work on it. You can easily get 100% on his exams if you study the past exams he puts up, since most questions are from the past exams.
Passionate about biology & loves to teach; offers good explanations in class. Very funny: Lecture was enjoyable. I wouldn't recommend missing class if at all possible - iClickers and attendance count (for disc, lecture & lab). Exams are not easy, but if you put the work in, you can get an A. Past exams & lecture capture are game changers.
Muller is the the best professor I have ever had for bio!!!! I actually learned in his class, the book isn't necessary as long as you study and understand the powerpoints. Study past exams and you are set. There are weekly quizzes which you should study for. He NEEDS to teach bio 101!!!!!!!
covers briefly introduction material for biology. solid course feel like i learned something.
Easiest A ever. If you get a bad grade in this class, it's your fault probably because Muller makes everything easy to learn and super understandable. He made the concepts perfect so everyone can understand it. He kept us entertained and did his job amazingly. Make sure to look at past exams and try to learn because Muller is worth it 100%
great teacher, easy class, it is not possible to get a below a C in this class. he makes learning fun and is very understandable
Interesting/fun lectures. He's very laid back, and wants the whole class to succeed. Uses 'clickers' for attendance. Book is not needed, as all lectures and PowerPoints are posted. Very understanding and will work with you if you missed a deadline. Labs are cool, too. Definitely an easy A, yet an interesting class. Take it!
Great professor. Lectures are somewhat fun. You get homework online (answers are usually online). There is no final exam but you will get 4 exams (study past exams and u should do fine and go to lectures) The book isn't needed (he says just buy the code and iclicker). Iclicker is free points. Both TAs are amazing and labs are fairly easy.
Professor Muller is one of the best teachers I have had at UIC. He is so caring and genuinely wants each of his students to succeed and benefit from his class. He tries his best to make his material easy to understand, and he does a great job at it. He is just so caring, and I highly recommend taking him for BIO 100.
Muller's awesome - he's funny and actually interested (and knowledgeable) about his subject. Past tests are up on blackboard and all lectures are posted online too through powerpoint and lecture capture. Powerpoints are clear and informative and the class is a relatively easy A as long as you understand the material but the TAs are hit and miss.
The material was clear and the professor was straight forward. The lectures could be boring at times, but they were very informational, so you don't really want to miss. The professor helped and cared about his students. Definitely recommend this professor and class.
Muller was a really chill and funny guy. Not going to lie, some of his lectures could be overwhelming, but he'll usually tell you what's on the test. He goes fast, so instead of taking all your notes in class, go through the PowerPoint before class and then just add to it. Uses iClickers for participation.
One of the most down-to-Earth instructors I have ever met. Muller is always there to assist his students and deal with any questions or concerns. Lectures are casual and oftentimes engaging. His powerpoint slides are well constructed and easy to follow.
Professor Muller is definitely one of the best professors I've ever had. I took his class over the summer and even though it was 8 weeks long he found the time to describe concepts in detail & he tries to make sure that his students understand what he is teaching. He posts his old exams, he's willing to answer any and all questions, and he's funny.
Absolutely does not go over the material well enough. He skips over all the slides and assumes you know everything already(If I did why would I even be taking the class?) and gives TONS of homework. Very very hard. Extremely tough grader. Would not recommend this teacher unless you are already a rockstar in Bio or Chem and need it for your major.
Great Professor overall. Does a good job covering material, and is very approachable. He records all lectures and posts previous exams on blackboard. Although a textbook is recommended by the professor, I never really had to use it. Also, the professor uses clickers so you need to show up to class. Just study the past exams and you will be fine.
I had Professor Muller for BIOS 104 and it was a great experience! All of the lectures were on Lecture Capture so it's easy to catch up if you miss class. The labs were easy for the most part and very interesting. Prof. Muller is very easy-going and hilarious, which made the lectures fun to attend. Anyone taking BIOS 104 should take Prof. Muller!
very easy class, 4 exams each have a take home portion to earn more credit, one project, tedious homework assignments though
Amazing professor, makes lectures enjoyable, and actually teaches the material for the exam. Definitely take this professor if you have the option.
If you're in need of a lab class (and you're not a science major), I would highly, highly recommend taking this class. It's a non-major class and everythingexam materials, homework, and anything else can be found online (Quizlet whoo!) or Blackboard. I never used a book during the course of the class and passed all of the labs with A's/B's.
Muller is the best! There's four exams in the course (he dropped the lowest exam grade the semester I took him) and the rest of your grade comes from labs, online assignments and about three projects. A lot of the exam questions come from previous exams. If you're not a science major and need a lab class/four credits, I highly recommend.
BEST teacher for biology. He is very funny, explains things very clearly, and very helpful outside of class. TAKE HIM. His tests are based off past exams, he even says this. The questions might be rearranged like changing one word, but the answer will just be the opposite of past exams. I glad I took him. HIGHLY recommend him.
i took professor Muller for bio in the summer. It was a fast paced but he was able to explain everything easily. Very understanding and willing to help with anything. Study the previous tests and focus in class and you will do fine. One of the coolest professors I've had. Wish he taught more bio courses..
very simple. Go over lecture slides in order to get an A in exams; you get to drop one exam out of the 4 exams. I got a D in the first exam but that's was only because I didn't go over the lecture slides at all. So in short, review lecture notes and write notes while reviewing them. Also look over past exams!
Such a great professor!! His lectures are always interesting and you can tell he loves what he does. He does Lecture Captures which are all on Blackboard. Best way to study for exams is to look at past exams!! Id say about 85-90% of questions are the same as old exams (switched up a bit but same concepts). Thats all I did for Exam 3 and got an A!
His course is among those I like the most in UIC. He made everything fun and relatable. It's only 1 point for attendance in every lecture, so the point does not really matter. I go to lecture to see him, it is enjoyable and really amusing to see him moving around and put his genuien passion when talking about the material.
Mueller is honestly a great teacher and makes the class fairly easy. He posts all his past exams on Blackboard with the answers, but they dont help that much. Go to lectures and read through his PowerPoints and you should be fine. You take each exam twice, once alone and again with your lab group which really helps. Will take again.
Took him during the summer and he was the best! Really fun teacher and made class rather easy and straight to point. Highly recommend!
He is so funny! He offers extra credit, you do not need the textbook, everything is on lecture. He also does lecture capture and i-clickers, if you miss i-clicker he will post it again at the end of lecture. Homework is on Quizlet and exams are based on past exams.
The best professor. Made the class super fun and easy to learn, there are 4 exams and labs every week which were really easy. He also gives a lot of extra credit!
Take him, he is so easy. You just have to keep up on the homework which is some on line and labs. There is a group project, which can be a pain. 4 exams and he posts old exams on BB that you can study off of, the questions are almost exactly the same and they are super easy, drops the lowest. There are a lot of things that you get graded on.
Professor Muller is a funny guy! The way he goes about his lectures is flat out hilarious and he covers a good amount of content. If he misses a part that comes up on the exam he'll just give you the answer to that specific question! You'll love him. He's pretty respected and I look forward to going to class because he makes it very enjoyable.
Lectures were fun and interesting, not too much homework, labs aren't bad, tests are too hard either
Muller is such a great teacher. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students and explains material in a clear way. He's organized and stays on track according to the syllabus. He's also freaking hilarious. Highly recommend - wish I could take another of his classes!
Overall, super cool teacher, No book necessary but you have to purchase mastering biology. It's not enough to know the info, you have to understand it! He is super funny, super chill, and genuinely wants you to do good.
Possibly the best professor I have ever had! This man is downright hilarious and very very nice. He uses I-Clickers for attendance but he usually just gives everyone points regardless if you're there or not. He gives out the easiest extra credit opportunities that don't involve Biology at all... not a tough grader 10/10 would recommend
This is such a great professor and he really cares about his students. But the tests are hard, so be prepared to study hard. He posts the old exams, so you can use that to study off of. He also records the lectures. Make sure to attend class and bring your iclicker. There are some extra credit opportunities.
Awesome professor. Four midterms and an optional final. iClickers in class but gives opportunities to make them up. Uses Mastering Biology for online homework, but not too much work overall outside of class. Lab is easy, just do the prelabs and postlabs. Study lecture slides for exams. He also gives some extra credit.
Not a good lecturer at all, but hes nice. His TAs were all absolutely awful as well. He offers extra credit to make up for the fact he cant teach. The class is not curved. Another science class at UIC where you need to put effort to teach yourself everything on your own. I suggest taking notes and not cramming before exams. Easy iclickers.
Look at previous exams he posts and study those mainly. Lectures and slides help as well, but you don't have to go to class everyday since he lecture captures the lectures. I personally find it easier to focus watching the lecture capture than going to class. Super chill and funny professor, will give extra credit opportunities.
Guy definitely gets stoned to the bone.
Literally the nicest professor I've ever had. I've taken two classes with him and both went really well. Super flexible and helpful and nice. He actually wants his students to succeed. Overall, super approachable and willing to accommodate everyone
Great at teaching material and makes lectures interesting. Exams, homework, and lab are straightforward. Three midterms and optional final. To study just do the practice exams and go to the review session. Lab activities are actually interesting and easy points. Overall, awesome professor!
Prof. Muller was such a fun guy and by far one of my favorite professors this semester. His lectures were always pretty decent and he sent out weekly study guides for the quizzes, and went over how to do labs during lectures.
The man. The legend. My man muller. He is by far the most chill prof I have ever had, and he was really accommodating for all students during online classes. It is very easy to get an A in this class as far as you show up to lectures. Half the times he basically directly tells you the questions that are going to be on the quiz. Highly recommended!
I just stink at bio and honestly online school got the best of me. The subject is pretty vast but Muller gives a lot of help for the quizzes/exams depending on the semester. We had a paper and that wasn't too bad, just ended up procrastinating. Solid dude and understanding.
Hes super helpful and his lectures are always entertaining. The class structure is pretty manageable, theres never too much due all at once. 10/10 would recommend.
It's an easy A. This is the type of course that if you really want to get an A, you really need to work for it. No final exam but you have weekly quizzes on Fridays. Every so often a Science in the News paper (4 in total plus intro and final essay). Aside from that an Adopt an Organism paper. He gives out extra credit mid semester and at the end.
Professor Muller is amazing! He genuinely loves his job and is passionate about what he teaches. He cares a lot about his students as well. There are supplemental videos posted for each week if you have trouble understanding the material. Extra credit was offered mid-semester and at the end.
Muller is an amazing teacher who makes mini lectures for each subject for the unit which are all easy to follow and informational. He also has lectures where he gives an overview of the unit and answers questions while being a fun person. Gave weekly quizzes that were easy if you watched his lectures and gave many extra credit opportunities to pass
Literally the best prof I have ever had. He knows the content very well and is super passionate about it. He always keeps an open line of communication with his students which is nice. Most importantly, he listens to his students and their concerns! If you get the option, take him, it is very worth it.
Prof. Muller was the best professor I had this semester! With us being online, he was very accommodating and understanding, and was very on top of his email responses and communication. Bio isn't my favorite subject, but his lectures were super helpful and all you needed to do was watch them and take notes. Really honest and fun guy overall.
Best professor at UIC! You can tell that he is passionate about what he's teaching. His lectures are easy to understand. He also goes over harder topics in class to make sure we understand it for the exam/quizzes. Weekly assign. are easy & simple. Cares for & will listen to his students. Likes to tell jokes/funny stories in class. LOVED HIS CLASS.
Muller was an ok professor. Lectures were recorded (good & in depth) because of COVID but labs were in person with the TA's. TA's graded everything and only saw him about twice the whole semester. Seems like a pretty chill guy, but not super involved with the students. Hard to get ahold of him through email. You'll rely on the TA's the whole time
Professor Muller is already highly recommended, I can confirm this from taking his class. I am kind of a slacker and I regret not taking his class as seriously I should have. His PowerPoints are straight to the point and his commentary is great. Him and his TAs are incredibly caring and helpful. It is not a ton of work but you have to be consistent
Great professor: online classes were the best structured out of all my classes. Responds to emails quickly and is very knowledgeable and personable. He cares about his students, which is hard to say for an introductory bio class. Great guy.
He is very nice and his lectures are pretty straight forward. There was no final exam and you just had to be in person for the labs that were fairly easy. As long as you follow the class content and do your work, you should get an east A.
Professor Muller was incredibly caring and understanding. His lecture videos were super interesting and helpful. The weekly quizzes are not difficult as long as you actually watch the videos and do the practice problems. I would totally recommend this course. The labs were not too difficult as well. There are also MANY extra credit opportunities!
This class is way too detailed to be a nonmajors class.
W professor seriously. Real nice and down to earth and will help with just about anything. Super chill dude and easy assignments as well. TAKE HIM!
easy class if you put in the effort. iclicker is mandatory (and graded) but physical attendance is not. i can't speak on his character because you're mainly only interacting with TAs (i never spoke to prof. muller once), but he is very enthusiastic in lectures, clearly cares about the subject and knows a lot.
very accommdating to any issues you may face, gives past exams to use for review on current exams. answers questions well and explains even via email if not in person. funny and easy to follow lectures. weekly quizzes, make sure to use practice weekly problems he gives they have answers to the quizzes most times. lab was boring. one of my fav teach
He was a great professor!! Even though I only took this class for as a gen ed, this class was very interesting. Labs are easy, he holds lectures in person and online (you can pick), and gives past exam answers in order to study better. I loved this class so much, highly recommend him!
I didn't find Prof Muller's lectures to be helpful. A lot of information was given, and it was hard to retain. I found lectures very draining. However, he is a good guy with lots of videos and study material on blackboard. His tests aren't hard as long as you go through the review material. He is lenient with grading and wants you to succeed.
Professor Muller is one of very few instructors that actually cares about his students. He is an expert on the material and assumes that most people are learning something for the first time, so he'll simply some things. Be smart and make use of his study guides and past exams, they helped me ace all of his exams. Do the quizzes and attend labs.
Awesome professor. Just go to lecture and watch pre-recorded lectures (from covid time) when you don't fully understand the topic. Also, make sure to review past exams, that's the easiest way to get through the class.
He gave extra credit opportunities and his grading criteria is pretty clear. If you use old tests to study for the exams and keep up with the work, you'll do great.
great professor, i loved this class and learned a lot. the lectures were engaging regardless of the topic. tons of resources and materials were given to study for the class that matched with the exam content. free txtbk provided. attending lecture/lab is for your benefit it helps your grade. very understanding, great person overall.
He is AMAZING. The best biology--and overall--Professor I had at UIC.
I had him for lab only, but he was chill.
Please show up to lecture!! I never showed up and failed all my exams (that was on me). He is very understanding when it comes to turning assignments in late. He is always extending assignments for everyone. You will interact mostly with TA's, but he pops up to labs sometimes. Really nice guy overall!
Michael Muller has got to be one of the best professors ever. His teaching style shows that he truly cares about the material he teaches. On top of this, time and time again, he has shown that he cares about the students and has the students in his best interest. Honestly I need more than the 350 character limit to say how great of a teacher he is.
Muller is an AMAZING professor. He is very well spoken and super flexible if you talk to him about needs help with certain things. The class itself was very easy as well, but is very lecture and note heavy. None of the material is say "hard" but you need to either watch the videos/lecutres to be aware of the test material. Labs were very easy also!
He was an okay professor who seemed interested in teaching, but he mostly just read from his slides which are accessible on BlackBoard. His tests are super specific and you have to memorize every little detail, which is not so great. Attendance is checked via iClicker, but you can log in from elsewhere and the questions are available on the slides.
This professor is one of the best there is and is my favorite teacher figure i have ever had. He is extremely nice and unproblematic and shows that he cares about students learning. Get a spot in one of his classes before someone else does!
Muller is a great proffesor, I just feel like the wordy slides made lectures very boring so it was hard to keep up. I didnt think I would pass because I failed all the exams but I ended up passing somehow. Make sure to finish all the lab worksheets for easy points and attend to class for the extra credit. Take another bio class if its not for major
Probably one of the few coolest professors on campus. He isn't completely all business. He tends to crack jokes here and there. Weekly online quizzes with lab assignments every week. The powerpoints tend to be wordy with a lot of graphs/figures. DO go over the past exams and watch the lectures from the covid era. They help a lot when exam day comes
Professor Muller is easily one of the best teachers at UIC. This class is an easy A, IF work is put in. Lab assignments are very easy and exams aren't horrible (Use the old exams and lecture slides). Attendance is not mandatory but he has clickers (not location) and he even live streams class. I would recommend going and taking notes for an A.
best bio prof at uic take him!!! Study his past exams he gives u for the exams!
This professor is like a once-in-a-lifetime professor. The leniency of his class is way higher for a student who saw the strict CS classes. I took his class to complete my Science Electives. If you get a chance to study BIOS110, take his class without questioning others. HE IS THE GOAT.....THE GOAT.
It is the best and the most straightforward class if you can pay attention and have fun with it, as his way of teaching is the easiest I have ever experienced. The work amount is moderate and easily manageable.
Muller is one of the best bio professors at UIC. His lectures are engaging, and he genuinely cares about student learning. Take advantage of his practice exams and consider using unstuck ai along with the free textbook to prepare. Attend class and complete all assignments for the best chance of success.
I hate bio but you get everything you need to pass the class. Go to lecture (get those I-clicker points), Do the weekly quizzes (very similar questions on the exams), Finish labs (you have one week to do them, answers on slides and book), 2 essays (that are not even essays), review the past exams (again!! very similar questions on the exams!!).
I really don't understand why this class has no curve, this course is not easy and requires a lot of studying. I wish professor muller would apply a curve for this class.
He provides so many resources to study and review the class material. The textbook is free but even just going to lecture/watching the livestream will give you the necessary information to know for the exams. Just an all around cool guy that actually makes the class easier and fun.
You can tell Dr. Muller really wants students to succeed by the amount of resources he provides for studying and reviewing the class material. His lectures, whether you attend in-person or online, are very informative and fun. Overall, great class!
Mike was a fantastic professor, and I enjoyed his portion during the NATS 106 class. He is very outgoing, will make a class laugh, and is down to earth. Mike genuinely knows what he is talking about and does not make you feel terrible when you have a question or a concern. His lecture slides were very understandable, so were the weekly quizzes.
Pretty easy class. I pretty much just attended labs and looked at the slides and was able to pass. Long slides, but good for studying and going at your own pace. Lecture is recorded.
He is pretty informative and likes to give cool fun facts. Lectures are super packed with information so going off of the slides at home isn't ideal because they're mostly just pictures. Weekly at home quizzes. Labs are pretty chill and fun. He gives lots of materials and resources to help you understand the classwork.
Great guy hard class. Everything you need is on the slides he post.
Bios104 honestly is not too bad, but it definitely requires you to study quite a bit. The professor is really funny and always super understanding, always willing to go above and beyond to accommodate his students. Overall not a bad class at all, but theres an easier class for the gen-ed.
Professor Muller is the best professor to take. He is laid-back, funny, and understanding. He makes learning interesting by interweaving hilarious side-stories into his lectures. His classes are very informative, but his exams can be tough because you need to remember everything from his lectures, which is a lot of info. Overall, awesome teacher.
He made the class very enjoyable, not too bad just need to put the work in, highly recommend!
Professor Muller was highly engaging and always made lectures interesting. I would definitely recommend his class to my peers. He's a great guy!
Best professor I've honestly ever had for any class. Hilarious guy: gives great examples and shows the perfect amount of detail. Would have him for a professor again any day. If you can, request him as your professor; he's the goat.
Great teacher. Gives extra credit occasionally. Tests are in class. Practice exams are helpful to do for exam prep. Literally gives so much material for you to study from so you can do good. Would totally take this class again. He is very approachable. You'll do fine as long as you pay attention. Don't sit in the back because those people slack.
This is such a good class to take if you need your science requirement as a non-STEM major. Professor Muller is really chill and the online lectures are really easy to understand (make sure you have notes out for the weekly quizzes though). The labs are also pretty easy and fun to do and my TA was also really chill and helped out a lot.
He is a great professor and helps out students a lot. The class is exam heavy. He is really funny and teaches the material rather than just talking. I recommend emailing him and attending office hours.
Professor Muller's lectures are very useful as he teaches the material in a way that's super easy to understand for the "common person". I would highly recommend his class, as there are many extra-credit opportunities and the grading is extremely lenient. He's also very approachable if you have questions or struggle with understanding something.
