Mike rocks! Very good instructor. Looks for the best way to truly TEACH students. Nevins takes his time to help you even outside of office hours-- if he has time-- and he usually seems to. Mike is fair when grading and is more than willing to let you try and argue some points back if you have a logical arguement, or if you can show from your work

I had Mike for 81 and 82. He's very easy going ang makes class fun while covering the material step by step. Patient and willing to help outside class, Mike follows the book and prepares the class well for tests.

I had Mike for math 80 and 81. To be honest I hate math and am pretty bad at it! But Mike is a great teacher, he makes sure that everyone understands the material and that nobody falls behind. His class is pretty easy, as long as you take notes in class and do the homework you will be fine on the tests/quizzes!

Great teacher. Highly recommend. He will listen to your questions and explain it until you get the answer. He loves math and is excited about teaching it to the students in his class. It appears there were alot of students that have taken him for several classes. You must do your homework to keep up.

Great teacher. Loves teaching math and loves his job. He will work with you until you get the problem solved and understand the process. You must do the homework to keep up.One fault would be not being able to control the "talkers" in the class. He asks them to keep it down but they don't respect his request.He needs to ask them to leave.

Mike's cool, smart, funny and definitely a good teacher. I'd strongly recommend him for any Math class you need. If you're trying to decide between 98 and 99; 98 is pretty legit and most important EASY! I managed to maintain an A or A- the whole quarter without studying at all really. You'll have a few projects but they're pretty easy and fun.

Mike is wonderful! He cares about his students and spends extra time with you to make sure you understand, he makes math fun! LOVE MIKE!!! Very cute too!

Mike is an amazing instructor. He is loose with rules and very relaxed, but more than willing to help you with anything you are stuck on. He also takes time to work over problems and explain solutions from a variety of ways to help people that struggle with math. If you are bad at math, I highly suggest taking Mike.

Mike is a fun professor who seems like he loves what he does. I have taken a handful of math teachers and he has been my favorite one so far. His bi weekly quizzes are real easy as long as you do the homework and his exams are not that bad either. He makes math interesting and compares material to real life situations to help you understand.

OMG Mike is my absolute favorite teacher I have had so far, 1. He has a sense of humor unlike many of the teaches here, 2. You can ask him any question and he will go over it. As well as help you one on one in his off, 3. He is damn sexy! WHAT BETTER WAY TO LEARN MATH

Great personality, and you can tell that he really loves what he does. I only wish that your grade wasn't as dependent on just quizzes and tests and that homework would count for points to help balance you out but he does a good job at explaining and you should do decently if you pay attention and take good notes

If you hate math and you need a teacher who really wants to teach and make it fun then you should really think about taking Mike. He is a great teacher and makes you have a fun time in class. Is grading and test making is fairly easy and there is no homework required. One of the best math teachers I have had.

Really helpful, kind and understanding. He makes light hearted jokes and tries his best to keep you interested. No judges from him and he makes you feel very comfortable and do better in math... Oh, and he's hot.

Mike is a really really good professor. Me, and many other students can safely say that we would not have passed had we take someone else's math class. Mike is an extremely fair grader. He grades based on how much you know, rather then whether you get the answer correct or not. I am so grateful for Mike and I really appreciate him. RECCOMENDED!!

This guy is a mathematical Prophet, he explains everything clearly and if not everyone understands the criteria he will not move on until people say they understand it. He is there for anyone who needs a better explanation and makes math abundantly easier and understandable!

Mike is the best Math teacher ever. I actually enjoyed math and learned it for the first time in my life. He is willing to help his students in any way. If you do the required work and put in the study time you will definitely pass his class. tests are graded based on what you know, best system of grading around. No surprises. Highly recommended!

I hated math all my math teachers in the past have made me fall asleep, however Mike is an amazing math teacher he clear, energetic, funny, and the way he grades is a life savor. If you add something wrong and get the wrong answer he doesn't care he looks at your work to make sure you understand the concept. I would love to have him again

This was my very first class back to school since 2000! I took his class in Fall of 2014 and I hated math growing up! He helped me realize how much I enjoy math and that math can be for everyone if they just take the time to learn. He is a very nice teacher and 3 quarters later hes still helping me.

I've never liked or been strong in math until now. I took him for 85, 91 & 92. If only he could teach all the math classes! He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Plan your scheduled around his classes. His grading is more than fair, he explains everything step by step and is there for extra help. Evcc is lucky to have him.

I took several math classes from Mike. He is extremely helpful and wants students to succeed. If you struggle with math, take his class! Class is never boring and he offers help outside of class if you need it. He doesn't believe in extra credit though. As long as you do the amount of work you need to you'll get a good grade.

Probably my favorite teacher of my school career. I barely graduated high school because of math but now I'm in 141 and he teaches it in a way that even I can get an A. He's very nice and funny, and makes math fun and not boring. I would love to take his next math class if I needed it for my degree. Would recommend.

I have always struggled with math, Mr Nevins is the first instructor I have had that teaches in a way that helps math make sense, and also makes it less intimidating. He grades more based off of your understanding and less off of whether you got every detail correct. He's easygoing and always willing to help, would definitely recommend his class.

Mike Nevins changed my life. Please take him, he's so down to earth and approachable. A true inspiration to students and educators alike. Genuinely cares about his work and his students and that's a real teacher. Best educator I've ever had in my life, period. Mr. Nevins is a great Professor. I took this class online and am taking the follow-up class, Math 092. I wasn't able to make it orientation but, he was very accommodating. Also, you don't have to purchase a textbook for this class! I thought that was very important because books are pricey. Take this class and you won't regret it.

I took Calculus in high school and failed miserably, but with Nevins it just seems to click! He makes you actually want to be there in his class (more than can be said for a lot of other math professors), he's super helpful, and as long as you put in the work and time on the homework you're golden, but if not then be prepared to struggle.

He is very funny and it was the first math class I actually enjoyed. Exams are a big chunk of the grade but he gives fair exams that as long as you know the content you should do fine on the exams

Awesome dude. Took him for 142 and 151 and was great both times. Will use as much office hour time until you understand material you have questions on. Also, really down to Earth and understands the material gets difficult.

Mike is my favorite instructor I've had. I took him for both 91 and 92 and both classes were great. He is a good guy and really cares about his students and wants them to do well. He explains material well, and will spend time and break it down to your level until you get it. He always has a good story and seemed to like talking with his students.

He has video examples if you don't get it. I like his grading ways. His quizzes are every Friday and he has 12 questions on each. He tells specifically what is going to be on the exam and how many questions. I would definitely take him again! And I highly recommend him as well!

He's laid back, organized, fair. He uses his own online book and online program, so materials are FREE. Because it's online, it is Exam heavy. He does post a an exam review and a module to practice the problems before the exam. If you do this in addition to the HW and quiz, you should pass his exams.

This professor is awesome! He is very prompt and thorough with homework help and explanations, which is exactly what every student needs in a math class. The format of the class is great, I loved that it was something different than I was used to, it really helped me once I got used to it. Be prepared to put time into this class for a good grade.

Hands down one of the best teachers you could ever ask for. I failed one quarter of math 86 with a different professor and Mike let me walk into his class and told me he would not let me fail. Even though I am a nursing major, he opted to be my advisor because he knew I was comfortable with him.

By far the best math teacher I have ever had. We went over lots of topics I had learned in earlier classes and had not understood and I finally understood them. Do the homework when you learn it or you will get behind. 3 exams and 1 final. He uses MyMathLab which costs $130 to access which is a lot, but it comes with the textbook in online form.

Mike is a very fun professor, and at the same time very understandable. I took MATH107, and it was the easiest math class I've ever took, and he was the best math teacher I've ever met. He is very open to help you outside class.

Mike gives great feedback and is willing to sit there and go over things with you until you understand. He has office hours often or can message him. He uses his own free online textbook along with WAMAP. Weekly online quizzes and homework on WAMAP. 4 exams and a final each question receives a letter grade and he is willing to fix grading mistakes.

One of my favorite professors and EvCC. I have ALWAYS hated math. Nevins has a different approach to ensure everyone understands the objectives of the class and is very organized. He even made his own textbook, so costs are LOW for students! Very down to earth, fun guy. Highly recommended.

Provides his own online textbook and homework so you dont have to spend all your money on a book. Super understanding teacher, he let us drop our lowest quiz and retake one. He also allows 3 late passes on hw but needs to be selected within 24 hours of the hw being due. Studying is necessary.

Mike is easily one of the best math instructors I've had. Don't let the difficulty rating scare you, Calculus is hard no matter who you take it from. It's obvious that Mike really knows his stuff, and his lectures are engaging since he's a huge math nerd. If you want to take calc, this is the professor to take.

For this class, we did not have to buy a textbook (he uses his own, which is very clean and concise)! He made me realize I actually like math. He knows how to explain things and wants you to succeed. It's best if you attend lectures, but he provides many resources in case you need them. His exams are graded with a good system. Also, he's funny!

By far one of my favorite teachers at EVCC. He has an online textbook free for students to use as well as videos. Very accessible outside of class and is always happy to answer questions. Lets you drop one quiz and redo one. Understanding and also very encouraging and inspirational. Felt very prepared leaving his class:).

Mike was a very good teacher for me when I took Math 96. Just make sure you are staying on track with his videos and hw online. You do not need a textbook because his class uses a website that has one built within it. Overall Great teacher 100% would take his class again.

Professor Nevins was a fantastic instructor. He went above and beyond to engage and keep me involved with his class. He produces an instructional series of youtube videos for each chapter, he provided a free download of our textbook, and he was ALWAYS available for individual help through our well-maintained student forum.

I was really nervous about going into calculus with all classes online. Mike however really was prepared for this. He has an amazing set up to give amazing lectures and plenty of videos for every section. He really seemed like he wanted to take the time to help people and was very active in our group chat as well. Would 100% take him again.

Mr. Nevins is very accessible outside of class. Such that, when I had a question I hear back from him within a couple hours. We used WAMAP this quarter which was a mix of canvas and a math forum and I liked it. This made helping each other much easier.

Amazing teacher who cares about students and is passionate about math. He teaches kinda fast but everything is currently online so you can easily stop the video or go back. Professor Mike is super prompt when emailed and is very straightforward. At first he may seem a lil scary but he is just very direct. No nonsense but he is also super kind.

Nevins was a great teacher. I had him for Calculus 1 (MATH&151) and he made learning pretty easy. Since we were online, he uploaded instructional video lessons about each section we worked on. He switched off teaching a section with another teacher, who was also helpful, but Nevins was just as good. He's a nice guy and the class is structured well!

Just an overall pretty good teacher, you just have to do your part and do the homework. If you have questions on a question, in the discussions/forums, he usually will respond to students in less than 2 hours. Also, his lectures are pretty watchable, surprising for a math teacher.

Easy to communicate with and gave reasonable amounts of work. If you need help he is more than willing to set time aside for you.

A rare prof that is passionate about teaching: great videos, more than fairly grades exams and quizzes. However, the method of not using a textbook lacks coherency in lessons. ?s on WAMAP aren't always covered by lessons provided online, and subsequent ?s posted in WAMAP often go unanswered. Then weighted heavily on exams seems a bit unfair.

Pros: -Great videos -Helpful and well-communicated lectures -Clear homework and exam structure -Answered every single unanswered question on the homework forums. Cons: -A few of the homework ?s had no examples or explanations Mike Nevens cared about the quality of his classes and even conducted his own feedback from his student last class. 10/10

Mike is truly passionate about teaching. He loves his job and is very helpful if you ask questions. The key to this class is to ask and to pay attention. Lectures aren't meant to teach you necessarily but are very enriching to what you learn through the homework. Exams are key. 65% of your grade is exams and they are difficult but he is very fair.

By far one of my favorite professors. I had dropped out of Calculus the year before, but retook it with Professor Nevins instead and passed with a good grade. Instead of a textbook you will use his Calc youtube channel and it is a god send. It's up to you to keep up and do the work, but he will do his absolute best to help you.

Really cool guy. He loves math and I really liked the website he uses for Pre Calc. All of his lectures are really great quality and on youtube. They're only around 8-20 mins long. The exams can be tough but he grades them fairly. The workload isn't too bad.

Michael Nevins is an amazing teacher that knows how to teach. The homework load is quite heavy; read the textbook and answer those problems, and then continue on with the hw questions that are mandatory. This will really help you. His tests are 65% weighted, so be careful. Only allowed a 5x3 notecard for exams. There is a final, no retakes.

Definitely ask questions if you have them. He will help you. 3 Exams. 1 Final exam. You get one notecard fount and back for exams. 2 note cards for final. Homework heavy. Overall nice guy. Pretty chill.

Nevins was the greatest teacher I have ever had. I'm not bluffing, either. He just clicked with my learning style perfectly. He makes extremely high quality online videos for his students to learn from, and emphasizes learning the material conceptually over anything else. It really helps to train your brain to think conceptually. TAKE HIS CLASS!

Hey, I'm back for another review. Honestly, I liked this class even more than Calc 151, the material covered was so cool! So many applications of the things he taught us conceptually. If you are on the fence about taking his class, its going to be hard, but its SOOOO WORTH IT! You learn so much in a short amount of time, and the lectures are great.

He is the best instructor ever. If you consider to take math classes, you should choose his class. He is very welcome to all the questions you have, and his lectures are really good. There are four exams in his class, but it isn't tough. You don't need to worry about the exams and homework.

Mr. Nevins uses WAMAP which is extremely useful in teaching a lesson, he also has a youtube channel with very well-made lectures. I had 3 exams, and no final, and the way he grades them is very helpful. He grades by your level of understanding, not by correctness. Mr. Nevins is easy to reach and he's always willing to help. Take his class!!!

Professor Nevins was great. I took his class online and it was structured in a way that made it so you felt like learning the content instead of cheating through all of the homework and quizzes as is possible with online classes. 3 in-person exams that were all 8 questions!

The best math professor I've ever had the pleasure of learning from.

The exams are in person, usually Thursday at 2 pm. His quizzes are Thursdays at 4 pm for an hour. Your exams are highly weighted at 65% and there are only 3 in the summer. Quizzes are 20% of your grade. Do the homework and you'll pass the exams/quizzes. One bad grade on these though and it could ruin your grade. Professor Nevins is very helpful.

Great teacher, will always help when needed. Awesome enthusiasm. Grading is not harsh at all uses a weighted grading system very hard to do get 0 points for a question.

Mike is the greatest math teacher I have ever had! His lectures (videos and in person) explain everything super well and you will learn the concepts very well. A lot of the grade is dependent on the exams but if you do the homework and study the exams feel easy. There was a decent amount of homework but you enjoy it because of how he teaches.

Professor Nevin's class was well organized but I feel like you have to do a lot of the learning on your own. That being said I think he's still a good teacher and I appreciate the way organizes his class and puts so much effort into his videos so his students don't need to use a textbook.

Fantastic instructor! His class has become one of the highlights of my week. His quiz/exam grading is super fair. If you are going to take calculus, I cannot recommend his class enough. I took his class for calc 1, am close to the end of his calc 2 class, and will take calc 3 with him. Super easy to contact and clearly loves what he does

Amazing lectures. Nice class structure. Super fun guy! There is a sense of community in the class. If you do all the online HW you can enjoy yourself in the easy group quizzes. And when it comes to exams, just do the review hw recalling as much as you can yourself, and write the formulas on your note card. The exams aren't hard if you practice!

Nothing much to say: Mr. Nevins has been my favorite teacher throughout my 2 years at Everett, and is definitely a contender for the best teacher at the school.

I had Mr Nevins for Calculus I and II and I absolutely love his classes. great guy, solid grading, and just a fun time in class.

Pretty chill, clear on what would be on exams which make up most of your grade. I recommend getting at least a little familiar with the homework before lectures so each class day is spent practicing skills instead of raw dogging. Especially since usually the first day of the week is a lecture while the 2nd is a "quiz" that is really group work.

I had Professor Nevins for Calc 2 and 3. Excellent professor, very approachable, great at helping you figure out what you don't understand in a way that helps you learn from it. Class is extremely test heavy, but he's also very helpful during the tests. I've learned more from him and Prof. Julian in a year than the rest of my academic career.

Great Professor. Exams are worth a lot of your grade and they are often only 5 or 6 questions making one question wrong a hit. Outside of Exams he is very fair. Do the work consistently and with intension and you'll get an A.

Calc 2 is a tough class but his lectures are amazing; there's also a homework forum so if you need help on something, most likely someone else can help you!

Lectures are amazing and the OpenStax textbook was merely a supplemental/optional extra. Quiz grading not as lenient as Julian, a bit more stringent on grading. Could use more feedback. Micheal was a great instructor/professor I've never understood math failed most of math in middle/high school after doing his practice homework each week and watching his lectures I could finally understand what I was doing and I scored in the 80s for my first exam and I felt like this class is very helpful and I actually learned !! (Math146)

TOOK MATH&146-INTRO TO STATS(there wasn't an option) Mentioned it was his first quarter with stats hope it isn't his last. Uses WAMAP, but he's active online to answer questions. With video lectures, write out the demo problems. Tests in person are allowed note sheet which was awesome. Study and keep up, I don't like math but I enjoyed his class!

He had great lecture videos and although there was a lot of work, it wasn't too difficult. We came in every few weeks for exams, but everything else was smooth. His grading was fair, he responded quickly, accepted late work with reason, allowed notes on tests, and overall was a great teacher for MATH&146. Truly one of my favorites. I recommend him!

Super great experience in Math146. Mr. Nevins is a great teacher and made Statistics super fun. He explained everything so it was easy to understand the lessons. The three in person exams were very laid back, and he allowed a one-sided paper of notes for reference on the exam. Overall, I really enjoyed his classes and learned a lot.

I took him online, he was a fair grader. His statistics class was clear and concise. Hes very considerate of schedule problems and found a way for me to take my exam when I had a jazz festival.

Really great professor. Everything is in one place on the class website. On average 2-3 assignments a week that are due on Friday. Then a short quiz each week. Exams were easier than homework. Very easy to get help and available often. Lowkey so funny in person too.
