Good Prof, Nice Guy very Fair

He aaight, do ya work tho.

Most of his exam questions are based on the textbook and his lecture slides. If you're early to class, he'll give you a few free questions. He'll make things very clear for you whenever you're stuck on something. He's very helpful in his office hours.

Hes cool, slot of work but hes fair with it, his tests are tricky but as long as you study their good. hes funny too and has real experience that helps throughout the class.

awesome teacher. makes lecture worth going to b/c he knows what he's talking about, having real experience in the business profession. he's also very funny. the dry humor kind, which is to me the funniest. =)

This is probably the only class that I actually ever looked forward to going to. He is VERY funny and occassionally gives exam questions in lecture. He is definately one of the most interesting professors in SB and makes the class very laid-back and not at all stressful.

Easy going, cool guy - nicknamed "The Nuge". One of the best profs. at Stony Brook. Tries a bit too hard to be funny, and still fails miserably at times. Class was easy, group project was annoying though. Gives insane curves on the exams, and tells the class some answers the day before the test.

Prof Nugent is the Man, very funny and smart. His class are cutting edge and his project or simulation is very real world. He trys to make learning fun. His test can be very hard if you don't read the textbook.

Had Nugent a few years ago towards the end. Best professor in the business department, still looks like Toby Maguire.

Nugent is a great professor. He is keeps the classroom environment fun and interesting. The tests are easy if you read the text and review the notes. His class does require you to study, but you do learn a lot about the material from the projects, and reading. Highly recommended!

This professor is awesome! Probably one of the best in the College of Business. He has a lot of knowledge to share and he is a total riot. His humor is cynical, sarcastic, hilarious, and sometimes dry. Do the homeworks, pay attention during class, read the lecture notes/textbook. You'll do well.

Took 110 with him and I was very impressed, so I took 441 with him. If there's any professor to recommend, Professor Nugent is it. I actually looked forward to going to class and cut this the least amount out of all my classes. That's got to say something.

Prof. Nugent made every class fun and easy to sit through. He makes everything interesting. Keep up with the work and you should be fine. His exams were a little bit tricky but not too bad. Definitly a class worth taking. Extremely Useful!

A great, funny lecturer who keeps the class' attention. He adds interesting real-life stories. Sometimes, they take a bit too much time, but overall, I learned a lot and enjoyed the lectures. The tests are fair and a bit challenging, but there's a good curve.

this guy is my favorite teacher. the material he covered was at times not interesting but he trys hard to keep you attentive with jokes. tests are easy if you study. i suggest you attend lectures cause they help you study for the test.

He was great, he clearly told us what we needed to know to pass, however I must admit that the class I had him with was EASY. I came here to read up on how he is with more advanced classes, because I honestly do not know. In BUS 110 he did not make me write a paper.

The class is not hard. 2 Tests, weekly case study & group simulation/report. If your group wins the game, you don't have to take the 2nd test. He jokes all the time which makes time goes fast. If Ettl is not teaching this course, then take him. You do have to do all the work & study a bit to get A.

The absolute best dude ever. He is really funny, makes the letures interesting though i managed to still fall asleep every time, not because of him. Interesting subject, and an easy A. ALl you need is to do good on the first test and on recitation and your set, with out even doing good on final. I will take him for any BUS class he teaches. BEs

i feel off my chair so often in this class because i never thought it would be such a boring class for the whole hour. you'll get some joys and laughs for the remaining 20 mins or so and never thought if there's a point to go to the class at all. but..you need to b/c...he gives hints for test and seperate notes for the test. just read the book!!!

Nugent is a very good professor. He teaches well, keeps class pretty interesting, he can be pretty humerous at time. You do not HAVE to go to class, I went like 3 or 4 times after the midterm and still did really well on the hw and test, got an A in the class. HW every week, but not too hard; tests seem hard but you will do better than you expect.

He is a very nice guy but be prepared to do a lot of work. There is a lot of HW and quizzes and the TA he has grading them is a tough grader. I thought this class was difficult.

Nugent is a funny guy, he makes the class painless. I highly recommend taking the class with him. The class is easy if you do the reading and work you will have no problem getting at least a B with minimum effort.

Let me break it down this way.... This Prof. is Fun, really fun! But his tests can be pain in da butt, plus a lot of homeworksss, like A LOT! I would just go to his class and not enroll in it, cause get a good grade is not hard, its just tooooo much of a work!

Easy A. Not because the material is cake, and he's not a pushover; but his sense of humor and his knowledge of the material combine to create an educational pastry that is quite unique and slightly tangy. Those who complain about his class are those who have been forced into college by parents- in exchange for nintendo wii and tanning fees.

Prof Nugent makes learning fun. He is vary strait forward with his grading. Both of the test I took were multiple choice. If you do the work it is easy to get an A in this class. I tried to take another class with him this semester but they switched the teacher out last minute and I am very disappointed

This class was better than I expected. Prof. Nugent is funny and tries to make the material interesting. He has a lot of good analogies to help you understand the concepts. You don't have to go to class but it is definitely recommended, he'll help you out if you do.

Extremely insightful class, professor Nugent utilizes a great combination of lectures and case studies that can be applied to what we learn in theory. Professor Nugent is full of humor and keeps the class going and focused. The class material and class "load" is reasonable, hw helps with the exam and brought clarity to the subject itself.

Best professor I've had at Stonybrook. This was my second class with him, and it was just as good as the first. Work load is reasonable if you stay on top of it. It's amazing that I actually enjoyed a class that was almost 9 hours long more than some of the classes that I have taken that were an hour and twenty. Can't miss.

Point Blank, Prof. Michael Nugent is by far the best professor I have had here at Stony Brook..No Questions asked! Take Him if you can! Very down to earth professor, knows his stuff and he teaches upbeat..In fact, many professors here at Stonybrook are boring and dreadful and they should learn alot from this man!

Knowledgable, funny, and an extraordinary teacher. I've only had one other professor in my three years close to his level. I'm presently taking him for a third time. If you have the ambition to learn, this man will teach you.

I am in Prof Nugent Spring BUS330 class, I think professor Nugent is very accessible and has on three occasions provided me with help on the homework during his office hours, and twice in responding to my emails. He even goes out of his way to handout class work that is very similar to the homework. He walks during the class work to help students

He is very funny and makes 1hr and 20 minutes go really fast. However, there is a lot of work. Home work, projects, papers etc. Be prepared to really work.

I am taking Prof. Nugent's class this Spring08 and i think he is an overall good professor. He makes class interesting and is sooo helpful during office hours. He also grades very fairly. I would recommend him to anyone.

Outstanding professor. There is weekly homework and although attendance isn't taken you need to go. He is absolutely hilarious if you put in the time you will get the grade you want. ALso took his financial investment class. Same format. TAke him as often as you can

Great guy. He's one of the only finance professors where I felt like I actually learned something when I left class. The course work isn't hard if you attend class, but you actually have to do the work. I would totally take this guy again. He has alot of knowledge to share, and I just wish I had more opportunities to learn from him.

He is honestly a terrific professor. He's funny, so you're not bored to sleep in his class (even if you might not find the subject interesting). He's also a great teacher. You can't slack off though so make sure you do your work. But you actually learn something. I'm really going to miss having him next semester.

I took BUS441 over the Winter Semester 2 days a week for 8 hours a day. It's hard to believe, but it was so good! The prof made the class very interesting. I liked this class much better than regular 1hr 20min classes. I recommend him to anyone and am hoping to take another class with him in the future!! Take Nugent if you can!!

Hands down, best professor in the business school. The difference is, Nugent wants you to do well. He puts in just as much effort as the students to make the material exciting, new, and CHEAP. No other professor does that. If you take ANY of his classes, and put in the work, you WILL succeed.

Professor Nugent is an exceptional professor - I had him for 2 courses so far. He has a passion for teaching, along with a general concern for students. His real world examples and sense of humor help to make a generally boring subject fun and innovative.I highly reccomend this professor.

I took Nugent's BUS 441 class over winter 2009. The class was LOOOOOOONG (9AM - 5:30PM) but he really made it worth while. The class was not boring at all, and he uses case studies to further enhance what we've learned in class. The simulation program he runs is also pretty awesome. I would definitely take him in the future for any couse.

The best business professor I've had at this school. Took 441 over winter session: two days a week, 8 hrs a day. * hours went by quick. Gives a lot of work but it's interesting material. The textbooks he uses are cheap, another plus. Easy "A" but still learned a lot, which is a rarity. He really wants his students to succeed. Take him if you can.

Hilarious teacher. Nugent says the most insane things. He usually goes off into tangents about televsion shows he watched (south park jonas bro episode), if the class likes BJs (wholesale club), and other things you would never expect a professor to say. Tests are easy, study 3 hours and get perfect grades. HWs are tediously long (5 hours).

I had him for BUS330, 355, 356 all at once and got an A in all three courses. Funny teacher that is very engaging, there is a lot of work in his classes but if you do them you will learn alot. All the material is very easy, it's just the workload that can be a pain. He's quite a smart guy although you will learn more with a Palermo or Menton.

I took 440 with Prof. Nugent over the winterim, and he made the 9 hr. class go by faster than most of my 1 hr. 20 min ones! VERY funny and helpful! I'd def. take him again, but the only con was how the groups were set up; make sure the group you're in for strategy has students familiar w/ the simulation (a lot of your grade is based on it!) A++ :)

Take him, if you really want to learn about business. i took Bus 356 with him last semester and have learned a great deal of excel. his lecture are very interesting, u would never want to miss a class, take him and be ready to work hard, but totally worth it. Highly recommended

Loved Nugent! He was so funny, and I genuinely enjoyed his classes. The class isn't too hard, but the homework can be time consuming. Lots of worksheets in class, and there's a group project that spans many weeks. Tests weren't bad, especially because he told us most of what would be on them. I would definitely take another class with him!

I only had him as a teacher once in my time at Stony Brook and that was my last semester. If I would've known what a great teacher he was I would have taken all of my classes with him. The best professor and the best class I have ever taken in college.

Great professor. Funny and down to earth. Really knowledgeable about finance. Class is mandatory or else you'll not understand the homework or the handouts, which are on the test. 1 midterm and 1 final, homework every week due on blackboard.

Best professor. Hands down. Doesn't mean you won't have to WORK for your grade. He cracks jokes and make the 1.20 min go by fast. GO TO CLASS. He goes over handouts which are IDENTICAL to the hw and test . It will cut down the time it takes to do the hw by about 3 HOURS. If you don't go to class and try to do the hw 5+ HRS Good luck.

Took him for 355 and 356, best teacher i have ever had. If you can't get an A in his classes its because you are not putting in the time.

He is a very funny professor who makes up funny situations to relate them to finance. No one would want to miss his class because he always made it worthwhile to go. We had a group project that our group ended dominating and a few tests and weekly homework that took a while to do, which wasn't bad. Take him for BUS 330, it'll change your world.

Online winter class. participate in duscussions on BB, Post case study answers on time. You will get A as far as you do good in simulation along with all assignment and test-which is fairly easy and pretty interesting. simulation really gives idea of biz strategy. He is very cool guy. One of the best in MBA dept. Don't miss the chance to take him.

Great personality. The class can be tough but if you work hard and pay attention, you won't have a problem. Understand his handouts and make sure you know them and you will be fine. He is always available to help you if you need.

The class can be tough if you aren't interested in Finance but he makes it fun. Go to class and do the handouts he gives out, they are exactly the same as the test and that prepares you well. The homework is tedious but is also great in preparation. One of the best professors I've had. He understands whats important for the students to do well.

so prof nugent is a great guy, funny, good lecturer, etc. but this class he has created is misstated. go to any other university and financial eng will involve solely cs, math, and core finance. here, it is just excel. the bus dept has to step up it's game, their degrees are worthless, there is little to learn that cant be done on your own.

Love him. The work is time consuming but he makes it so that you want to learn it. Dont be lazy. Two exams, homeworks, and a group financial simulation. Hes so funny. Definitely take him.

He is a very nice professor. He really loves what he does and he wants his students to be more informative about the world we live in. My class was business simulation and he was very informative and helped the students out whenever possible. The class was easy and fun!

At first I was apprehensive to take a winter class, however Professor Nugent's class was well organized and easy to follow. Was a really quick grader, and always gave you feedback on your papers. Just need to do the work he tells you to do, and give a little effort. Just like any other class!!!!

Please take this online course. He gives you 3 Exams with each two days to finish them and 1 Hw is due every week.

Great professor who gives great feedback. Expected a lot during the second summer session, multiple discussion boards, replies, quizzes, papers, etc. Do what he asks and you will do well. Definitely take him, he is one of the good ones.

Love the class. Lectures are very clear but a bit long to watch on youtube. The term paper is a bit long, but professor gives really good feedback and helps you get a straight A.

Before class started, Prof. Nugent went out of his way to tell us that we could save money on the textbook by buying the older version. He's a nice teacher and easy grader. The textbook is only useful on the exam. It is winter session class, so we only did four cases and six discussion questions. And I love the zoom business simulation.

Nugent makes going to a 9am lecture on a Friday worthwhile. He is very reasonable with you and tells it like it is. He's very funny, and relates experiences to class material. Online hw, 3 online exams similar to hw (final not cumulative), a group simulation, and excel assignments. Go to class for help on excel hw, and prepare excel for exams.

This was a summer online class, and was honestly the most effort I ever had to put into a project in 6 weeks(if you take during the summer, be prepared to work your tail off). His lectures are spot on, and wish I took for a full semester.

Nugent is a finance genius. If you want real life work skills take this class. It is a ton of work so if you can't handle that, don't waste your time. Weekly excel team case assignments. Oh yeah, the textbook is a literal piece of garbage but is big part of your grade.

The Financial Engineering class played an extremely large role in landing my investment bank job. I was given a financial excel exam and my boss said I was hired over Ivy League applicants because I had the highest score on the excel exam.

I took BUS 355 last year to fulfill my corporate finance VEE in order to become an actuary. I took my actuary exams and did very well, I can see that many of the exam questions were based on topics from this investment class, I like the fact that Prof Nugent used excel spreadsheet during the class and took the time to go over the formulas.

I really enjoyed the class time, we worked on team projects and he provided feedback. Don't take this class if you are not a good team player! I liked the reinforcement the class provided on excel and finance. I feel like I really know how to use excel now.

The finance class was harder than most business courses, the class was large. I did feel that Prof Nugent did an excellent job lecturing the material, he used the Pearson lab for homework and tests. Which was great and provide feedback on the problems I got wrong. Warning not coming to class will hurt your grade he goes over a lot of problems.

At first I was not happy, because teamwork, mandatory attendance and alot individual homework. I did not think the class would be worth all the effort. How ever after about a month I saw some real improvements in my understanding of finance and my skills in excel. By the end of the class I can say it was the most important class I have taken.

If you take BUS 365 online with Prof. Nugent, you'll avoid some of the complaints of the comments below. Yes, it's a lot of work (reading and taking the quizzes), but there are zero group projects. You can watch his Youtube lectures if you want to, or just do all the Pearson assignments. Since the course is online, the choice is yours!

I took 356, did not have a choice, warning attendance mandatory. I usually just show up for exams and use course hero for most of my classes. By the end of this class, I was so surprised how much I learned, Nugent really helped me understand finance and cared about me getting me ready for a future career in finance. Plus I'm an excel master now!

Nugent is a funny guy. I enjoyed his remarks on various topics. Made the class enjoyable. The homeworks are challenging, but if you use the examples that will help you through. I did not care for the Zoom Simulation. It was diffcult to understand and he did not spend too much on how to do well with it. But the class is not too bad other than that

The excel taught in the course is incredibly valuable and will stay with you well after college. The most valuable course I have taken within the COB. The lectures/example videos were clear and easy to follow. I thought the CFI element was also a great addition, further enhancing excel skills and confirming financial knowledge.

This class was extremely relevant to the field of finance. The material covered in this course is what actually allows a finance student to sell themselves as an expert during interviews. The CFI courses were extremely valuable and informative. I learned a lot of very practical, useful information in this class. The CFI courses were really helpful

That this was one of my favorite classes and by far the most useful class I have taken as an undergraduate. I appreciate all the comments Nugent gave me on the excel projects and I like that the professor had strict expectations for each project. Too many other classes at the COB are super easy with no real learning, glad I was finally challenged.

This class helped me in the interview process with every job I applied for. BUS356 played a big role in my being able to get hired at an investment banking. There are very few classes in which you finish and will actually use what you learned on a regular basis, I feel very confident in my abilities in advanced excel and financial analysis.

Amazing prof that cares about their student. Actually understands the material they teach and helps students with any question and makes sure the student understands the material. Always reachable by email and always answers questions after class ends. Take this prof and do what he assigns and you'll get an Easy A

Choose this professor if you need to take this course. Makes very informative youtube videos on his excel assignments and his lectures. Group sim project is a bit annoying but nothing too bad. Calculations on the tests are identical to the homework so write everything down.

Greatest professor of all time. I've never had another professor at SBU that genuinely cared for my success in the corporate world. If you are reading this, take this class; it's the best decision you can make. He challenges you in order for you to grow and develop a desired skillset.

He was great, I'm saving all his excel videos to use at my job! Im happy to say i became Excel savy because of this. a lot of work(summer class) so like 10 things a week for 6 weeks but he gives good feed back and wants you to learn. He was also very understanding when I was having issues and I think he could tell I was trying really hard def take!

This class was the only reason I got a job as a financial analyst making 78K a year. I used the case studies during my interview, which really impressed the interviewer. I was the only candidate to pass the excel exam needed to get hired. Highly recommend this course, be prepared to work.

Professor Michael Nugent is amazing before the semester begins he made everything available for people who want to start working on them. There are 10 homeworks & 2 exams & group project & all of them have a due date and he give plenty of times to do them because of that he does not do late assignment. Take him!! One of the best professors to be honest. Pay attention to his lectures and you will do well in his class. His lectures are also easy to understand and he will teach you everything you need to know about excel for finance. Highly recommend this professor if you're thinking about doing Finance.

He uploads the recorded lectures which is helpful. He goes through almost every slide and does well elaborating on them. He also focuses heavily on actually solving textbook problems with Excel step by step which helps for the homework and exams. Funny and chill personality.

One of the best professors at stony brook business school. Really enjoyed being in his class and pretty chill when it comes to the workload. would def take him again

A lot of homework and he is a very strict grader. But you will learn A LOT in his class, especially on how to operate excel. He teaches you useful skills that you can use in the real world and promotes team building and socializing in class as well. But do be mindful that he is strict and a lot of homework.

Challenging but rewarding class. Strict grading but you'll learn valuable Excel and financial analysis skills that are highly applicable in the real world. The CFI courses were super helpful. Definitely take this if you want to get job-ready.

Prof. Nugent is a smart guy who is good at explaining complex concepts in the context of real world scenarios. He has a very dry sense of humor which I enjoy. I took both his BUS 330 and BUS 356 classes. The 356 class definitely requires a good amount of work, but it's safe to say I learned more in that class than any other class I'd taken at SBU.

Awesome professor! Really knows his stuff and explains things clearly. His passion for finance makes the class way more interesting. Highly recommend!

One of the best professors I've had at Stony Brook!

BUS 356 was one of my favorite classes and by far the most useful class I have taken as an undergraduate. I appreciate all the comments Nugent gave me on the excel projects and I like that the professor had strict expectations for each project. The excel skills you learn make you feel more job ready.

He's a good professor and keeps the class engaged with his stories. He uses Pearson, has 3 tests but no final exam, and there's a ZoomSim group simulation project. His tests are monitored closely in class so don't try to cheat. They're easy.
