Had him a few years ago - very nice and pretty funny, but marking system is messed up; too much focus on religion (expects biblical knowledge to be common sense); easy class, can be a bit annoying

Great guy, good sense of humour about the fact that engineers only take english b/c they have to. Easy to get along with if you put in a bit of effort.

Great prof who's passionate about English, very hard on his own drawing and clarity when only his drawings are horrid. If you get a chance take his course.

awesome prof! can be a hard marker, but goes out of his way to help. great sense of humour with the engineers, as he knows they are just in there because they have to be. recommended, take english with him if you have the chance, even prarie lit. was interesting with him.

Very good professor. Although, He tends to ramble on and has no direction in his class. Friendly and approachable! Pretty much only needed to attend the class where he tells what is on the exam. Although you must attend labs.

very good prof. likes to talk alot about every thing. easily gets off topic. likes to talk about his ex wife, dog, and his boxing career alot. But he is really helpfull. Only prof i recommend for intro to uni.

He is awesome! So interesting, explains everything so clearly. Also he is soooo approachable, and is willing to help you outside of class no matter how stupid your question is. I would take any class by him again. He also marked very fair. Great Prof!

This course has somewhat boring material, but some of it is very useful. The prof is a good speaker and makes the lectures interesting.

Good prof, gives clear explanations and even though the content of the course is kind of dry he did a good job keeping students attention because of the way he presents info. Has a sense of humor too, which helps.

Mr. O.M. was a great teacher - he was funny.. spunky, made boring lectures as interesting as he could.. The content was fair, and the exams/essays were somewhat difficult, but fair. I also think he's a silver fox! Rawr!

The subject matter was sooooo boring, but he managed to make it semi-tolerable. Plus he is gorgeous!

O'Brien-Moran is a great professor, I have learnt a great deal of knowledge from especially in the area of learning and memory, which has helped me in preparing for exams and test in other of my classes.

He is one of the greatest profs I've ever had! He is amazing! I took this course a year ago and I still remember most of the things he had taught. He'll be always there to help.I'd prefer listening to his critics than to his TA's not only cause he is SO CHARMING and HOT!!! but I've found his comments clearer!

I just finished this course in April and I have to say that Professor O'Brien-Moran is one of the most charming instructors I have ever had. He knows what he is talking about and you can learn alot if you just listen. He is also very GOOD LOOKING and off the chart on the HOTNESS SCALE. LOL.

If you want to take a class that will really make a difference in your university education then you have to take this course from this professor. Not only is Professor O'Brien-Moran a brilliant teacher but he is incredibly hot. He sizzles.

Really good course to help you get better grades and give you fundamentals which will assist in future courses. Michael is a really great prof, quite humorous(esp the dog story LOL).. Really has a great command of what he is doing. You'll enjoy the course

This Prof is great! By justlooking at him you might actually underestimate how smart he is, but don't panic he is very helpful and intelligent. He is also very approachable and even bought our whole class tims! :) The only reason I got a B+ instead of an A is because it was a writing class &t's not my forte. GREAT CLASS, GREAT PROF!

This prof was awesome ! He was my first prof at u of m and im glad it was him! He tells alot of stories might be alittle dull but really helpful! Got free food on the first day with him too haha but overall great prof. I would have dont better then a B+ but his TA Steph was really hard marker but i heard shes gone now. Great prof definately

Such a fantastic Prof. This class helps transition from high school to university with ease. I highly recommend it! Going to class is not mandatory, but highly suggested. Plus, for an older gentleman, he is pretty easy on the eyes.

He's a very enthusiastic prof. He really wants you to learn in his class. Sometimes it can be boring, i wouldn't suggest taking it in the morning. But overall he cares much more for you and your success in his class than the majority of profs. He is fair in grading and a lot also depends on who your TA is. (mark wise) Easy W course!

This prof is excellent. He really knows his stuff. He has a great sense of humour, and he is hot, LOL. He is also willing to help you outside of class if you just ask.

There's 2 parts to Arts 1110, lecture and lab. O'Brien teaches the lecture and it was the easiest class ever. He told you exactly what was on the exam. I probably studied 2 hours all year in this class and got an A. The lab is a different story though; you have to write papers and if your lab teacher is a tough marker you're SOL.

Excellent prof, made a dry topic interesting. Great sense of humour that related to the topic. Helpful, kind and oh my lord I have a crush!

Clear lectures and entertaining. Content learned is very valuable - a course worth taking. Marking is brutal. Getting A's, A+'s, in high school doesn't mean you'll do so good here. If you believe content>GPA, there's no problem. GPA is likely to take a hit here. Overall: cool guy, tough marker.

A good first year course to take, he kept your attention by grabbing people in the audience or making jokes. Great Proff!

Highly, highly recommended. Easy 3 credits and totally relevant to the rest of your university career. It should be mandatory for all U1 students. He is a superb prof and makes a rather dry subject interesting and relevant. Fantastic class.

Really good prof. Good at keeping the attention of the class when teaching boring content. He often used stories to help students understand and remember things which was nice. Your grade has nothing to do with him, as the TA's mark all of the assignments so it depends if you get a good TA or not. Easy class but kinda pointless.

Notes are online so I found only going to lectures when I couldn't understand the concepts worked for me. This class is very helpful when it comes to future writing courses in university! Very useful

Great Prof, Great Guy. Very relaxed and knows what hes talking about. Sadly i slept through most of his classes because they were at 830 in the morning but i slept my way to a B+. To pass his class if you know what 'Metacognition' is you'll be fine. All those who've taken his class know what i'm talking about

Only reason he has a 4.2 now is because people misclicked the wrong buttons to rate him. Amazing professor. Great way to be introduced to university. Essays are hard work but it is definitly a course to concider taking. Strongly recomend. Kim Siwak is a cool TA too.

Lectures can get somewhat boring, but it is a great intro course for those new to University. Exams are really fair, and simple if you study well. Marking is so-so, depending on your TA or tutorial instructor.

Good prof, basic lectures/contents. Uses humor and stories to make it more interesting. Attendance necessarily not needed as he posts the straight-forward notes online and doesn't really add much to it in lecture.

Coolest professor, i think hes the professor who really reaches out to his students and forced them to ask questions. I like the way he gives out lecture, very organized, he is sort of like a mind reader and can read what people is thinking! ahah kudos!

Boring lectures for the most part. Basically just a writing course. 2 term papers worth a total of 45%, but if you don't get as good of a grade as you would have liked, you have the option of a re-write. Took this for my W requirement. Easy peasy.

FANTASTIC!

This class was a cake walk, but also very useful. I took this as a Written Requirement last fall. The lectures are optional, the labs take attendance for marks. I didn't use the course pack at all and did fine.

Even though the classes dragged by something about his teaching style helps you remember course material without actually studying at all. Show up to every class but don't worry about taking notes or studying more than 2 hours for an exam. All notes are posted online. Don't worry about reading the textbook just stay awake and you can get an easy A.

The guy says some pretty controversial things but all the material is so easy, and he explains it all very well if you can stay awake to hear it. Just go to the lab and not the lecture and do the two essays well and its an easy A.

He is pretty great. And this is a great way to know the university and how it works like studying and learning styles and how to use metacognition.

He is an amazing professor! He explains everything so clearly, and if you do have questions you can easily ask during or after the class. The lectures are awesome. It was my first year and he literally sat down with me and taught me how to learn my other courses. It's super easy to get in touch with him by email or drop in to the office.

Just have to attend the tutorials honestly, the lectures are really good tho and he's a great professor so they are worth to attend and also this class is an easy A

He always made lectures interesting so I always wanted to attend even if they aren't mandatory to get an A. He gave lots of useful tips on how to improve in other classes! He made students think about things they might've never considered before. Overall fantastic prof and I'd recommend taking his class

Great prof! Attendance is not necessarily mandatory to pass, but he made lectures funny and interesting to be at. Content is fairly easy, but can be actually somewhat helpful.

This teacher is amazing and very light hearted, be willing to read a lot, write a lot and be prepared before classes. The TA of this course marks really hard and rarely hands out A's on the 4 essays you do in the semester. Have fun, its a great course.

Took this during winter term and it was an early morning class. His teaching style is very inspiring with lots of 2 way discussion. The material can totally be connected to the daily life. it is useful for uni preparation that packed with interesting story. attendance is important as he won't give all info on it. Clear grading.

Dr. O'Brien Moran is one of the best professors that I have ever had. I would recommend arts 1110 for first year, second year or third year students who are looking to improve their essay writing. This course teaches basic writing skills and provides valuable feedback. Rewrites on essays are allowed. Excellent GPA booster.

I took ARTS1100 my first year and learned a lot useful skills for my academic success. I credit this class and prof for teaching the skills needed for writing, learning the right information taught, and being able to understand what's important in any given lecture. Would recommend Dr. Moran. He's very engaging and captivating as well!

He is very pompous and always right so dont bother trying to question him! Nice guy very entertaining lecturer but papers are harshly marked and so are finals. Do not believe that this course is easy A- I enjoyed it a lot and learned tons but worked the hardest in this course which was supposed to be my GPA booster. This prof wrote the course!

He didnt just read the slides, he had plenty more to say so be prepared to take notes. I also found his lectures funny and entertaining. 4 essays to write in this course and youre given plenty of time to write them. Very easy course if you do the basic requirements, great course to start uni

Dr. O'Brien Moran is encouraging, inspirational and hilarious professor he gives a lot of time to talk with students after class/office hours. BUT this course is graded by his TA and the essays will make you regret taking the course, she is a very tough marker, gives horrible and rude feedback and expects you to write perfect Ph.D. style papers.

I took this course in my first year at University and it was totally worth it. He was really interesting to listen to and he makes his lectures fairly interactive. There were alot of interesting class discussions. I would suggest going to meet with him and his TA. They were extremely helpful to me and they really care about what you have to say.

I took one of his courses for a summer credit, Obrien Moran is a very good lecturer and very interesting to listen to, hes funny and cares about your success. Mid-term and Final isnt very difficult, the essays marked by the TAs however can be a lot tougher than youd expect from this course.

He is hilarious, makes even boring stuff fun, and easy to remember. One of the things I really liked about him is that he connects previous information so well that it just goes into your brain. Cares about you. Interactive, easy to approach.

The class with him was good, he was really interesting and it was reasonable. The exams were straightforward, I just studied the slides and did well. The papers were decently challenging and a solid amount of work though so put in time for those. The TA marked really hard so a paper would need to be very good to get in the 70's. Test marks help.

He is very energetic while teaching! down to earth. In terms of the course, it all makes sense. I followed it smoothly, only the assignments are very time-consuming. His TA is helpful too while grading your paper! Mostly his TA that marks it and grading is fair. The course that I had was talking about adjusting to university academically.

Took this course online with friends; I loved O'BM, but a couple friends thought he was weird rather than funny. He knows what he's talking about, and wrote the textbook (which I thought was easy to read). If you're a decent writer, you'll be fine with him in this course. Lots of video lectures, but he finds a way to make them interesting.

pretty laid back course. if your a good writer this should be a walk in the park. if your not then get good or your grade will be average. michael is a chill guy though.

do it if you dont need ENGL creidt or not great at essays and want to learn about how to learn for uni!!
