Ofsowitz is wild. Very humerous and lectures are interesting and engaging. The whole class loved him.
just one hilariously politically incorrect man who unintentionally offends so many people, but it amuses me so i do not care one bit
his examples of theories and whatnot are kind of subpar, but i love his personality. he is hilarious and just a good guy. i wonder what i wouldve gotten out of the course had i had a different professor though.
ofowitz is the man. he teaches the class very wildly and gets you into physc. he is kind of like doc from back to the future. sometimes you feel like your watching stand up comedy instead of physc.
Professor Osfowitz is one of the best teachers at MCC. Developmental Psych is rather boring but he made the lectures very unique and presented the material very well. Definately reccomend him...
I had a new teacher to MCC before I switched to Ofsowitz. This guy is amazing. He was popular at one point. All the psyc kids talked about him. Sometimes I forget I'm in class and more or less being a goof with friends. He is a great professor, highly recommended!!!
Ofsowitz was awesome, he makes learning fun!
Decent professor. Doesn't give notes, just talks in front of class; make sure to write down what he says, though, because he looks for it on exams. Picky grader, but tests are reasonable and not tricky. Extremely funny at times and very politically incorrect.
Compeletly unpredictable grader, but in a good way. I had a B according to grades, but ended with an A- for the class. Just make sure you participate and he'll appreciate it, he sometimes criticizes students comments in a joking way, and if you can handle it then you'll survive.
great prof recommend to anyone. keepas class interesting. he's awesome
OMG i loved him. He is fun and crazy and kept u interested. He let u know when u werent doin to good, so you can go and take the test over again to make sure that u will pass the class. He taught in a way that was fun, and tried to connect the actual concept into real life expereinced. I would highly recommend him for anyone taking Psy 101.
I know this professor has gotten a lot of good reviews, so I feel like I should show the other side. I really do not like this professor. For one thing, he hates to give A's. He's a very harsh grader. Also, before or during class he feels the need to have rambling conversations with students. He always wants to know what you're talking about, even
Professor O is a little strange. I got a B in the class (thank GOD for 3 chances at every test). I thought he could ramble at times and he seemed to pick favorites. It was overall okay but not great.
Great teacher. Absolutely the funniest. Had him for honors psych. Unbelievable amount of feedback on tests. My favorite at MCC.
Great and Hilarious, hard class great teacher, he might be crazy, good thing for three test thing
Favorite Professor off all time!! Had him for two different classes and wished all my classes were taught by him. Very thought provoking lectures and he is very intelligent.
a little crazy but hes one of the best professors i have ever had and i wish that he taught every psych! highly encourage anyone to take his classes
I know may people have said they liked him but I didn't I hated HIM!!! He goes on and on about nothing! and he likes to talk to his markers and to himself! bad teacher! he is funny I will agree with everyone on that one but teaching style sucks! I would say pick another teacher esp. for psy 101!!!
This professor is a lot of fun, he is hilarious and a little whacky but he definately makes a boring class interesting. I would definately reccommend him to my friends
AWESOME GUY,I highly recommend this professor for psych 101. He makes a difficult class not so boring.
he tells TOO MANY jokes and loves sharing stories about himslf he doesn't teach the finish by the deadlines so You have to learn a lot on your own he rewards you 4attendance and doesnt punish you 4 not showing up Hes a nice guy, just not a good teacher I dont recomend him, but hes certainly not the worst teacher you can have he cares about students
this guy liked to think that he was funny. was very easily distracted which took away from class time. fell behind in classes and deadlines which meant you had to teach yourself the material for tests. definately not one of the better professors
He is funny and makes the class alot of fun and isnt strict at all. Just do your reading and studying and work and It wont be bad! We talk about the Yankee's for 5 minutes every class. Its great!
Great professor, always willing to see you during office hours. Extends deadlines to meet students needs. Quizes tend to be a little rough, though if you know the material you should do fine. Don't miss any work or it will bring your grade down. Overall great Psychology professor.
He was terrible in explaining things and his grading was impossible when i took things directly from the book.
For a Psychology teacher, he is one of the best. The class never gets dull, although the everyday jokes he made tends to delay the discussion of the course material, but he does warn you to devote additional hours of reading by yourself. He is a good guy, friendly and helpful. The only class that makes your day great but SERIOUSLY, read on your own
Very good professor. Though he is understanding about attendance and deadlines, it is very helpful to be there and keep up because he explains almost everything in class. You will enjoy class discussions if you have a high interest in [social] psychology.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER get in his class if you can. Very entertaining, my favorite class I've taken yet. Very funny and animated and makes class interesting.
BEST teacher for PSY 101! I highly recommend him! My friends that took psych before I took it told me psych is mad hard. With this professor, you can learn while having fun, and you do WELL on the tests! IDK how people can say he is bad... I would rather take this guy than somebody else. And the corniness of his jokes makes his jokes twice as funny
Great guy...cool teacher. Made fun of me every time I came late to class. Love all the extra background information he gives on people and topics. If you don't minding verbally sparing (all in good fun) with him to get an A then I highly recommend him.
If you're taking PSY 101, I recommend this professor! The first time I took the class, I failed due to how boring and bland the professor was but with Ofsowitz it's the best class ever. He makes everything more interesting by cracking jokes when he can, using accents to impersonate people and just over all making the time spent in class enjoyable.
Awesome professor. I had him for PSY 101 and have taken his classes every semester since. he is absolutely hilarious. class will be a blast!
Awesome prof.!!!! I had so much fun in his class. If I ever have to take another Psychology course again, I would definitly seek him out. Would recommend Prof. Osfowitz to anyone.
Such a wonderful professor. Witty, intelligent, engaging. He is adorable, and very helpful.
I LOVE this guy. I had him for 101 and Psych of Superstitions. I only took psych of superstitions to have him as a professor again. He's hilarious and knows what he's talking about.
He's funny, but can be a little inappropriate. His tests look for recall, not recognition (no multiple choice tests!). Lucky for us all, he curves the grades. His examples are good. He knows what he is teaching. He hands out a few 1 page essay homework sheets, and a 6 page term paper. I'd recommend him.
Good guy. Very down to earth and clear on his expectations.
Had him for psy 101 and is a great teacher and definently one of the best psych teachers according to some of my friends teachers. he doesn't always get to everything but he definitely covers about the same as other teachers. and makes sure that you understood it. Definitely wants everyone to do well and will help outside of class time.
Very funny and inspiring. I looked forward to being in his class. He know A LOT, kids got shut down every time they'd question his knowledge, best teacher I've had so far at MCC -Freshman
Easily the best professor i've ever had. He is hilarious and kind and explains the material in layman's terms. If all you want is an A, but dont care about long-term retention, Take notes and you wont need to buy the book. His exams are based solely on lecture material. No powerpoints. Engaging, hysterical, kind man. All profs should teach like him
Horrible professor. Was never on topic and did very little to help out students. He mostly rambled on and constantly talked about drugs when it had no reference to the class. I am a very good student and was devastated when I received a D in the class. Half of the questions on the tests were not covered in class at all.
I love Ofsowitz - he's super funny and a bit eccentric, but he's really smart and interesting. Pretty much write everything he is saying down, because he will likely test you on it (I NEVER read the text book). His tests are pretty hard (part MC and part short answer), just make sure to be very specific on short answer questions. Loved the class!
If you do not read the book you will not pass. He is funny however he skips around subjects and is not clear all the time. there are three opportunities to take and pass the tests and only the highest score will be taken. Is blunt and for a social psychology major he has little tact. If memorization is your thing, you'll do fine.
Mr. Ofsowitz is an amazing professor!! He is extremely funny and makes it so easy to memorize the things he lectures on because of the context he puts them in and the funny spin he adds. There were only a few things he said that I, personally, thought were out of line. I wish he taught the higher up PSY classes, or that I could take this again!
Honestly, if you were to just use the study guide and the textbook for the tests you wouldn't even have to show up for class but attendance matters. He skips around on topics so i drifted in and out sometimes and rarely got to finish the chapter but he was funny.
Ofsowitz is a RIOT! Very funny professor. Gives it to ya straight, no chaser. The material has a boat-load of real world examples. Mix that with his brand of dry humor and the hour flys. My #1 recommendation is take the practice quizes in the learning center. There are only some many questions the staff draw from to create the A,B&C tests...
He's hilarious. My first semester, I had him for 101. I ended up scheduling my classes based on his availability for the next year. In total took about 4 classes of his. He's a Freudian so- except hilarious sexual jokes. Never read the book, never took notes. Just listened 100% to everything he said in class and easily passed. MISS HIM
Very Funny. Definitely gives you a new perspective by the time you have completed the class and is always willing to work with you. He was a great adviser as well.
he skips around subjects by rambling on about other things like personal experiences that has nothing to do with the topic, giving no full understanding or knowledge of how his format will relate during the test or quiz . Not CLEAR! in this regard.
Ofsowitz is awesome! His quizzes are based solely on lecture material, so take good notes and listen carefully and it's an easy A! Make sure you read the assigned articles too as he tests on them! He is very passionate about social psych and it shows--his enthusiasm is contagious. The homework is short and easy. Loved this class and loved him!
He's an okay teacher. Goes on long rants that aren't related to the material. Grading isn't clear. Doesn't give good feedback. Lectures will make you want to sleep. Very mono toned, sometimes hilarious.
Hes a very nice guy. His lectures are long and dry. He didn't really teach much. He gave the term and then examples never really gave definitions. The textbook was like another class. Hes is a very picky grader on tests. I did not pass one. He does not give positive feedback. You only get negative feedback.
Mom went into hospice and P .Ofsowitz took the time to help, asked for updates on mine and her health. Was totally genuine about everything. Great class, smart guy, entertaining but educational. Would love & fully intend to take another class w/ him. The class is tough but made easier by his intellect. You won't regret taking a class with him. A+
Ofsowitz is great! He sometimes goes on rants during lectures but you can tell he's really passionate about what he is teaching. He is a very odd human and likes to make light of that. He tends to make lectures pretty interesting. If you follow along the text during the lecture you should do fine! Just know that your whole grade consists of tests.
This dude is super strange. PSY 101, however, is really easy if you just skim the chapters, and you get 3 chances on every test. You'll probably never know what's going on, but I still got a B+.
Going in I wasn't sure what I would get from this class, but he made it easy to understand, some definitions he goes through quickly but he gives real life examples of what he means. He makes this class easy and the tests aren't that hard they are always 2 short answer and some definitions. I would definitely take another class with him.
A charming and corky professor. Very laid back. Just pay attention to the lectures and take notes, read material, ask questions as well as participate and you will pass.
He is my favorite teacher I've had at MCC!! Absolutely hilarious, super smart and interesting. He is great at explaining and giving real life examples so you understand each concept. The class over all is super easy, just do the online homework while skimming the textbook and you'll learn enough to ace the tests. REALLY REALLY recommend Mr. O!!
Amazing professor! You can tell that he is very passionate about what he does. He is a tough grader (and admits that), but if you pay attention and take notes during lectures, you will be fine. A few simple homework assignments, quizzes, and a term paper for social psych. He gives great examples and is hilarious!! Very beneficial course!
He was an amazing professor! has a great sense of humor. If you do not like awkward situations or talk about sex do not take him as a professor he does not sugar coat anything and that is part of what keeps his lectures interesting. Being able to have fun learning the material is great! Would love it if he taught PSY 212
He is cool and funny. He knows his stuff. He writes a word and explains it to you. There is no slide show. He might show you a video here and there. You have up to 3 times to take a test. The higher score will be your grade. There is a homework quiz every unit. 10% towards your actual quiz grade. Recommend him!!
I really liked Ofsowitz a lot. He was funny and knew people by names even in large lecture rooms. The class and grading is pretty straight forward, it's all online. His lectures are just as important as reading the book. He's an awesome professor and if I had enjoyed phycology I would take more classes with him. He'll make you laugh for sure.
By far my favorite teacher this past semester! Incredibly interesting and freaking hilarious. Made what could have been a very dull class fun. Looking forward to Behavior Mod with him next semester!
Overall a very good professor. Funny, professional, engaging, and corky. The best part of class was the awkward situations. He would say something a little controversial every class which was hilarious. The class was actually challenging. You don't need the book so don't buy it. Just pay attention and take LOTS of notes and you'll be fine.
Very unique guy. I enjoyed him very much. Pay attention to what he says in lecture, and take advantage of the opportunities given for tests. You'll get through this class with at least a B even if you barely worked hard in it. Regardless he is very funny, and keeps your attention the whole class. You can tell he likes the field In which he teaches
Professor Ofsowitz is incredible. He is extremely friendly and fun to be around. His lectures are more like class discussions where everyone feels involved. This was my first lecture style class in college and I am extremely glad it was with him. The class has clear expectations and he is 100% there to help you.
I had him for 2 classes. The first day of this class, which is mandatory for graduation, he announced that "no students should expect an A, because no one gets one in my classes usually". He makes it known that he doesn't want to be in class and does not make it easy for visual learners who need powerpoints and actual notes. Very funny though.
This guy is a very nice and funny dude. But he has a total lack of notes, powerpoints, or other means of visual learning for those who need them. Kind of just rambles on stuff that loosely relates to the topic being discussed. His lectures are so hard to follow because of the total lack of visual learning aids.
Use all 3 of your chances to take the quizzes to get the best grade possible! Prof is very engaging and enjoyable. Pay attention in class, take notes, and read at home. The study guide is VERY HELPFUL, especially if you print it out with extra space to take notes under the questions!!
Great professor! He is funny, but can come across as offensive at times. Not much homework, and he made introductory psychology enjoyable. He is really funny and teaches the curriculum well. Would most definitely take again.
Awesome dude, very funny. Sometimes he doesn't get through everything in the unit, so prepare to read and learn a good amount on your own from the book. Strongly suggest using all 3 chances to take the test!
He's a funny professor and all but that doesn't help me learn anything in class. His lectures don't consist of anything other than him jumping from one conversation to another. He gets off track very quick. Also grades very differently so you never really know where your grade stands. I felt like I didn't learn much from his class unfortunately.
Great professor. Funny. Didn't really need the book, just pay attention to lectures and take notes and ask him whatever you want. Read the articles, he tests on those but the rest of the tests are mostly from lecture. People think he gets off topic but if you think that you're not really listening. Great examples.
He is a good person and very genuine, however, he's not a good prof. He does not use any material in class to help convey his points in class, so you have to try and hope you get all of the notes down which is very stressful. He also does quizzes that are not multiple choice, but around 4 questoins that are short answer, diffucult for no reason.
He's a good person, he is really funny and caring, however he is not a great professor. He is very old school, and just does lectures. He is also a little scatter brained and does not like grading so it takes forever to get homework and tests back to see how you did. He also makes directions vague and then grades some stuff strict, which is unfair.
One of the best psychology professors at MCC. He's hilarious and does everything he can to help you pass. Lectures are interesting but there is a lot of reading. I highly recommend taking his classes.
Probably one of the worst professors I've had at MCC. I had an online class with him and he came across very rude. The homework makes no sense and his tests are almost impossible. He also takes forever to grade things.
Professor Ofsowitz is very engaging and fun, however he is a tough grader. The material is interesting, he does a good job explaining it, but if you are not the kind of student who enjoys participation, reading a bunch and challenging exams you might have a tough time in his class.
Poor communication skills, ask for help and he didnt really help on ways I can improve my grade
He is a really chill guy. Note taking type of learning style, if you are hands on he is not for you. He will lecture with no powerpoint or text, notes will be from what you hear out of him speaking. Lots of discussion posts each week. Few tests, one or two papers. Not a bad professor, but you have to be self motivated for sure.
Took his class last year. Dropped out of his social psychology class after one day because his grading policy was awful and his lectures were hard to follow.
He's interesting and witty. I took this class online and the resources you receive are limited. However he will knock your grade if he doesn't find your chosen subject matter personally interesting. He is often very condescending and cryptic at times. He gives good feedback. It'd be easier to focus if he was kinder. Easy to pass if you try.
Get ready to read A LOT. His classes are entertaining, engaging and you learn a lot. However, the tests are extra hard and he doesn't really explains how the final project should be designed/written. I am not sure if I would recommend him since he can be very confusing at times.
He is ok but don't expect to learn too much from him. Most of the study happens outside his course from online sources or tutoring services NOT Prof.O. Tests are medium in difficulty and the final project matters the most- although he almost refuses to explain what exactly he wants for the final project. Cryptic and condescending at times.
He's fair and so is his grading, but his lectures are often off-topic and meandering and his feedback can be difficult to decipher bordering on rude. He expects you to read the entire textbook but you'll be fine if you skip it.
This is the worst professor Ive ever taken. Nothing makes sense and he isnt clear on an instructions he gives. Good luck if taken this class because its a guessing game of what he truly wants form him, as he never seems satisfied.
I feel like he shouldn't be teaching that course because he either doesn't understands what he's talking about OR he doesn't knows how to explain due to a lack of experience. I would say he is a tough grader but don't ask him how he graded because that's when he becomes rude.
There is a lot of reading but if you study based off the study guide then you will do fine. The homework is very time consuming. We didn't get to everything in class so definitely have to learn things outside of class but the professor is funny and makes the lecture less boring.
Steer away from him!He has a very unorganized style of teaching and very subjective way of grading. One of the worst at MCC
This is my 2nd time taking a class with him. The first time I had him on campus, he was known for getting side-tracked and taking up class time to explain stories/theories. This was actually fun sometimes. When taking his online class this semester he is extremely tough on grading and called me inconsistent when I participate in EVERYTHING weekly.
If you are not required to take this course with this professor do NOT take it! He is never satisfied with the work you turn in but never explains why. Very difficult to stay above a B although sometimes I think he just randomly grades stuff.
Professor Ofsowitz is a great professor! The main thing that he grades are the tests. If you read the textbooks, you'll do fine as you have to answer 4/7 writing questions of your choosing and define some words from class. He does get sidetracked during lectures but that's what makes them fun!. He provides great feedback on tests and is a great guy
As other reviewers, he seems to randomly grade. Not only that, but there is a big difference between grades when you share contrasting opinions with him. Ridiculous amount of work for an undergrad level and very, if any, explanations and directions on how you should do the work.
Take notes. He gives you nothing in class to take notes from, its straight lecture. He is very personable just not the best way for some people like me to learn. fire this man
This class was incredibly difficult as he would tend to ramble on and get off topic every class. One moment we would be discussing aggression and then the next he will be talking about salads. He grades you off of how much he likes you. The tests are also hard due to it only having 4 questions so there is already little to no forgiveness.
Professor Ofsowitz is the toughest I had during my time at MCC. His class is not easy and he makes you work for your grade. However, this class made me a better scientist and I feel helped prepare me for the next steps in my education and career. He cares about you actually learning the material in a real way and becoming the best you can be.
Professor Ofsowitz is one of my favorite professors. The class is very teat heavy but if you do the readings and pay attention in class they are manageable. He is very funny which makes the lectures less boring.
These reviews don't reflect who Prof. Ofsowitz is. He's an amazing professor who gives good feedback on stuff. Yes his class is semi-hard but if you do the work and read the textbook, you'll pass the class. This is my 2nd course with him and despite being virtual this time, He's still amazing and I can honestly say he's been my favorite professor!
If you plan to go to a 4 yr college and even further to a grad school then you will really need the knowledge of this course. This is why I say that you either choose another prof or redo this course with a one that does research. Ofsowitz might be funny but he cannot explain the material properly because he doesn't has the expert skill.
I dropped this class, and I've never done that before. The professor does not know how to teach appropriately! Nothing anyone says is good enough. He constantly goes back and forth, practically arguing with students in his ridiculous amount of discussions, tearing down students' confidence. Of all my courses, this was by far the worst. STAY AWAY!!!
Quite literally the worst professor I have ever had. These discussions are mandatory but if he doesn't agree with anything you say you will be handed attitude. Also when replying to your discussions, instead of telling you why he doesn't agree, he just tells you to look at other replies, great help! Needs to learn how to care about students.
The funniest professor on campus!!!! this was my favorite class.
Professor Ofsowitz has a unique teaching style. I have taken inperson social psych and this online course under him. He only lectures and uses no visuals, very hard for someone like me who needs more than that. Very critical of assignments and seems like no one ever gives the right answers to his in-class questions. hard to grasp concepts.
As a professor he is very confusing, his grading is even more confusing and lectures make no sense.
You have to read a lot outside of class to pass the tests, and he's a very harsh grader. He doesn't use powerpoints and just yaps all class, which is good for some people, not helpful for me. You don't need a physical copy of the book even though he says you do, just get an ebook. I often love psych classes, but this class isn't enjoyable for me.
hey guys, this professor is awful. this man just rambles on and doesn't make any sense. if you are a visual learner then your screwed bc he has no power point. he grades with 90% are the module tests and 10% are homework's. if you buy a used textbook you must pay an extra $25 to do the Zap's homework's that are mandatory. no extra credit either.
Professor Ofsowitz has a unique teaching style, but I wouldn't recommend him for Psych 101. He rambles without PowerPoints and often skips textbook material, which the tests are based on. Grades are 90% exams (20 multiple-choice questions) and 10% homework, with no extra credit. Read the textbook and tune him out to pass.
Going to class doesn't help at all. He goes on and on, but you won't pass the tests unless you do all the outside reading. His unstructured style is unhelpful, and his humor leans toward outdated jokes that don't always come across as funny.
A challenging professor who cares more about learning than popularity. Use unstuckstudy alongside the textbook to excel in this course.
Words can't even explain how much I dislike this professor. This professor does not stop talking. He will go a whole hour into class just yapping about random things before he finally teaches the correct subject. He has made this class very difficult for many students. When I go to class I want to learn, not to listen to stories. 0/10
Very confusing, he makes it so hard to turn in homework and a lot more confusing than it needs to be. Talks too much about personal stories.
He can't teach and he's mean. I overheard him making fun of students and will never take another class with him again.
Constantly talks more about his personal life then the class during lectures, and then when you ask a question he barely answers it.. not too mention he makes the class uncomfortable when he talks about "wee wee's" and "pee pee's" and then laughs for a good 15 seconds after.
Doesn't use any visuals during lectures, often goes on tangents that loosely relate to the topic, and overall left me extremely confused what was going on a lot of times. Also, very odd way of grading HWs. Few tests that weigh a LOT of your grade.
Online class. Discussions on Brightspace were great. Professor O. comments back to you and really makes you dive into your understanding. He's not just silently watching he is helping you grasp these concepts and think outside of your little box. You get two attempts at the tests. Everything you need to know is on the study guide. Fav. Professor
He yaps about random stuff in the middle of the lecture. just read the textbook chapters and follow the study guide him talking doesn't help everything is in the textbook.
