mike omalley is by far the best professor I have ever had. I learned more about not only the subject but about life in his classes than I thought I could even learn. I recommend his classes to.. everyone.

WoW. I love this guy; his Boston/Irish accent, along with his personality, make his class pure joy. He is so knowledgeable and animated I would sit in on his class just for kicks. Everyone in any major anywhere should learn from this man.

So I haven't had him in college, but had him in high school for AP English and he is the best! Great story teller too. He's really easy going and you can have talk with ease. Plus he let me eat in his class haha!

O'Malley was one of the most inspiring teachers I have ever had. He taught me so much about everything including life in general. I had him in high school for AP English as well as Humanities and was smitten by him after 15 minutes of knowing him.

This guy is the greatest teacher. He can make anything interesting. His stories are the best and make you laugh every class period. I would actually just consider sitting in on one of his classes without even being enrolled in it.

Hands down the best Professor I've had here at OSU. Prof. O'Malley will make you want to strive to learn more about both the subject matter and the world in general. If you have any time to simply take a class, look up whatever he's teaching. Well worth the 3 hours in a single class.

I also had him for AP classes in high school -- he made a point of teaching us as if we were in college -- and having been through both college and grad school now, I can honestly say he did a good job of that. Always interesting lectures and we learned a TON. He took the time to tutor me for hours prior to a scholarship test, too!

Prof. O'Malley makes any class interesting. Not only do you learn an immense amount. But his fascinating stories teach you about life, keep you entertained, and help you on your road through education. Everyone who has the opportunity should take a class from him. Boo ya!

Very interesting class! He really knows his stuff. He gets into these heated lectures and starts foaming at the mouth, but he gets you to think critically about things. Discussions are sometimes a bit one sided though, so make sure you're still thinking for yourself. I never used the text book.

I walked into O'Malley's class as a Public Health major, walked directly to the Department of Education office, and changed my major. He will change your life. And his brain is exploding with knowledge! :P

I have had Mr. O'Malley for 3 separate classes, and he is BY FAR my favorite teacher I have ever had. His lectures are always interesting and is one of the few classes I truly enjoy attending. Very thought provoking educator!

Wonderful teacher! He does talk very fast but he's really funny and easygoing. Work wasn't too difficult and the textbook wasn't really necessary (I would recommend just using the one on hold in the library).

Mike is probably the smartest person I have ever met, yet you wouldn't know it by just running into him on the street. He is super down to Earth yet is able to quote 50 books in a row, stating the title, author, year published, ect. all without looking at anything to help him. I took his class six years ago and I will never forget what I learned.

Super easy class... you literally only need to take notes on the teaching philosophies at the end of the term - essentialism, progressivism, etc. Don't buy the book; we only used a couple pages for our presentation.

Easily the most engaging class I've taken at OSU and this my last term! I'm a science major and I absolutely loved his TCE 216 class. Mike is absolutely hilarious, super knowledgeable, and an excellent professor and person. Take one of his classes! You won't regret it.

Mike O'Malley is constantly cracking jokes throughout his lectures, making the 8am roll-call worth it. He is a very easy grader, and participation is a huge chunk of the grade. Just make sure that you start reading your book early on when it is first assigned, because it's impossible to read it in only one weekend. Easy A if you are willing to work

Mike is super nice and his class is interesting but he talks really fast and is hard to keep up with sometimes. I skipped class a TON and I still got an A in the class. Probably the easiest class you will take. There are quizzes but he didn't put them in the grade book. 1 essay and the final is an essay. Easy as hell.

Mike O'Malley may be the smartest and funniest guy on campus, or maybe in the country. Class discussions were provocative and real, and the readings and assignments enhanced lectures. If you want a class that will get you thinking critically about your education, this is it. I wish O'Malley taught more classes.

HE'S THE BEST! Lectures really, really fast so you won't catch everything, however, he's super smart and knows what he's talking about. You'll love him, no doubt. What a guy. O'Malley has a lot of what the Oregon State faculty lack, that being PASSION. The all caps in the previous sentence don't do justice to how this class gives you a different perspective on your education but also how superb he is as an individual.

The workload is super light until the end, 2 pretty big papers. Not graded on a lot of things. Very engaging, loved coming to class and discussing issues we face today. He rushes through lectures and is always running out of time but still a great class and a great guy, would recommend to all!

Best professor I have ever taken. Mike has many years of teaching under his belt and really understands his students. Gives a few essays along with a group project but it is really easy. He wants his students to use him as a resource, so visit him during office hours. Best class, would never miss it (even though it was an 8am).

I had a chapter from the textbook that I presented to the class with my group, but I just used the textbooks that the library carries. You do not need to buy the book. Additionally, I had to either read a book or do a research project.

Great and entertaining lecturer. Very easy class, one group presentation based off a chapter in the textbook (don't bother buying it though, never used it except for one chapter), and weekly easy written reflections. No tests, just two larger papers and he does take roll every class period. Would take again!

ED216 was a life-changing class thanks to Mike. His immense body of knowledge and experience teach you so much about how the world really works, and make you reflect on the societal conditions/history that led you to where you are today and will continue to strongly influence your future. Could not recommend more. So funny!! Tells hilarious stories. Takes attendance most of the time, but honestly so worth going to class anyway. Lectures were not to heavy. No big tests either, just occasional reflection questions, weekly discussion posts, and 2 papers. So worth it!

O'Malley is an extremely passionate teacher who heavily emphasizes group discussion and being actively involved in the material. He tries to allow self-expression as much as possible and enjoys getting to know his students. My class became very close and we would often continue discussing concepts and perspectives long after class was let out.

The most conscientious professor I've had so far at OSU. He's hilarious and know how to get his students interested in the content. Attendance was taken, and there was one presentation you had to give, but as far as I know, simply doing it earns you an A. He's a straight shooter and great overall professor!

Mike has been one of the best profs I've had at OSU! He is super passionate and caring about the subject and actually makes class discussions engaging! We had to use the textbook for one assignment but other than that I never touched it and he told us how to get it at a cheap price instead of the expensive prices from the OSU bookstore.

Absolute Masterclass of a teacher. The class itself was not bad even though it was at 8 am, and it was not super strenuous with the workload. Honestly probably the best professor I have had or can hope for. If there were more than 5 stars I would give it to him. Extremely nice and understanding too.

i would lay down my life for mike. he is my favorite professor hands down and there is a reason everyone loves him so much. you can pass without going to class much, but you don't want to miss out on his lectures. he is more than happy to answer any questions you have, and is a great professor to get to know personally.

I took ED216 just as the pandemic hit. He literally passed everyone that was in his class. He was amazing and I'm so very sad he's gone. RIP to one of the greatest professors OSU ever had
