Oremus is a great teacher. He loves to help out and is very clear. He is fun and makes the material way clear. He has a ton of patience so if you need to ask questions, he is always willing to help. He's always in a good mood and smiling!
EXCELLENT TEACHER! He makes math so easy to learn! Willing to help anyone who doesn't get it. Doesn't give out too much homework. The tests are average but helps a lot and puts together a nice study guide. Attendance is not mandatory. Would highly recommend him to anyone!
Incredible teacher. Enthusiastic. If you have a choice, pick Oremus. No one is better.
He is not a good teacher. He is not even good at Math. He sometimes gets lost while solving problems. Grades hard on the tests and makes a lot of mistakes. Very careless. I have never had any teacher who don't give any extra credits. He never does.
I had such a fun time in this class! Mr. O is so passionate about what he is teaching. He wants everyone to do well, and he goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is understanding the material. I enjoyed his class so much that I signed up to take Calc 1 from him. I would highly recommend this professor. He is so easy to get along with.
He is the first math teacher I've liked since middle school. He explains things so that those of us who are not good at math can understand.
Best math professor! Richard Oremus makes learning even the hardest concepts in math easy and fun. Makes lots of jokes, he will stay and help you with any questions you have. Highly recommended.
Awesome teacher! No he does not offer extra credit, but his grading is fair. If you're looking to float through math on extra credit you're delusional. Yes this course takes work and effort. It's calc I. Mr. O is so helpful and really cares about his students. I would highly recommend him. He's definitely on your team.
I felt behind in math when I stated his class. With the way he teaches it was easy to fill in the gaps. He is very open to questions and making himself available to help after class. While the student that says he makes mistakes is correct, these are often great learning experiences for the class. Extra credit is not needed if you attend class.
Oremus was a pretty good teacher, I understood his examples and did pretty well in the class. The only thing was he sped through the last chapter and unfortunately that was a big emphasis on the final.
Michael Oremus is just very passionate about Math, and it really motivates us, the students, to continue studying the subject. He knows that Math at times can be a bit boring, so he tries to make it as fun as possible. Definitely the best Math teacher I have had in SLCC.
Oremus is a great teacher. He knows his stuff and is super helpful. I needed extra help after class sometimes and he was very patient and willing to go over the topic again. No extra credit is given so you have to work really hard. He doesn't actually go over homework questions just checks if you did the assignment.
I have taken Oremus for both Trigonometry and Calculus. Did ok in Trig - Only because I had previously audited the class. Now, in Calculus, I am realizing how confusing he is. Lectures are primarily filled with an introduction to concepts - completely useless on homework, etc... They are also filled with "I THINK THAT..." Tests are a nightmare.
I can't say enough about this guy. He is very clear and organized. He is funny and excited about Math. having always hated math, this is the first time (calc 3) that I have actually started to appreciate it. His attitude is contagious. I think that if you do bad in his class your just not trying. Thanks for everything Mr. O!
Not bad
He makes math very simple, color codes his work on the board. He emails you almost daily to check in. Has practice tests online. He's setting you up to succeed. He sometimes gets distracted and then crams things. His tests are fair if you struggle with math he is the guy to learn from. He has a great sense of humor. homework is online; mymathlab
I hate algebra, and Oremus is by far my favorite math instructor. He wants you to learn, and isn't strict with deadlines. He's entertaining, excited about math, and good with answering questions in class or by email. He uses mymathlab for online homework, and I have never opened my textbook. Good attendance is best, but you can miss a fair bit.
Oremus is without a doubt the best math teacher i have ever had! He took a subject as complex and difficult as calc III and made it fun. His lectures are amazing for the first time my notes were my most valuable resource for passing the class and that is because of how hard he works. I only wish i could have taken all of my math from him.
You will (guaranteed) spend at least 3+ hours day on homework (7 daysweek). Makes exams very difficult and review material does not reflect what is on exam. Rarely responds to emails. Will FAIL you regardless of how hard you try and talk to him if you don't perform well on his exams. NO extra credit, no mercy. Gave first exam AFTER drop date.
i had failed math once before and thought i just was bad at it, until i took Oremus' class, he is willing to help and explain the problems i found it easy to learn, he would also make up rhymes to some equations so we would not forget, and i gotta say it helped lots during the tests. He's amazing. mostly online homework.
Mr. Oremus was an excellent teacher. He was by far the best math teacher I have had. He gives a reasonable amount of homework and his tests are fair. It is essential to complete and understand the homework in order to do well on his tests. He has always been willing to make time if help is needed. He didn't enforce attendence but it is essentail.
Took this class online and was really impressed with Oremus. He was completely willing to work with me when I had to add the class quite late and was very responsive to email. Good feedback on the projects and let you do them over until you had 100%. The tests are department so you can't blame them on him. Be prepared for A LOT of homework.
He frequently waited till the last minute to put out grades, he frequently lost projects, and he was so anal about how your homework had to LOOK, not how well you did but on the outward appearance of your work. If its not 100 correct or perffect, don't expect anything less than a 0. Also if you email him, expect 4 days for a reply.
Michael is a really awesome teacher I would for sure take him again if i got the chance. He is very helpful and clear, and he made math really fun to learn. I looked forward to going to class every day. Would definitely recommend him.
No doubt the best college professor I have ever had. He speaks with a loud enthusiastic voice that keeps you engaged. Lectures and examples are clear and he always answers questions, emails, and will provide help if you ask. He grades and enters homework quickly, usually the day you turn it in. Homework is long and tough, but tests are easier.
He grades homework well even if you don't finish, but his tests are hard and doesn't give much partial credit. The test questions don't Mach the homework so the tests confuse you. No extra credit at all. Only three tests per semester so their is an overload of information to cover. He covers each section lightly so you end up having to watch videos
Michael is great at explaining concepts but his tests are ROUGH. He doesn't really prep you for them or tell you what to study so most of the time I showed up for the tests having focused my studying on the wrong subjects. The tests are 45% of your grade and there are only 3 so they cover a ton of material and it's really hard to study for them.
Michael is amazing at explaining the material. He does give a fair amount of homework, but nothing crazy for a math class, and it helps over prepare you for the tests (which are not that hard if you studied). If you have problems, just go to his office hours, as he is super willing to help. He's also super likeable and makes lecture worth it. 10/10
Great teacher, the only Calculus teacher to relate what we are working to real world situations. Uses additional software to show what he is talking about. Homework is mandatory but only skims through it. Tests were hard but manageable. Overall one of the best Math teachers I've had, and best grade I've received in a Math class.
Best math professor you will ever have! He stays on the same level with his students, and goes out of his way to make the material clear. He always graphed example problems in class so that we could understand things visually. He kept conversation going in the classroom, and created a fun learning environment.
Best math teacher I've ever had! Very approachable and ready to answer any questions students may have. He keeps the lectures clear and simple.
We didn't have a great time slot with a two day per week schedule, so test review was difficult. But he took time out of his busy day to meet with us outside of class for review before tests. He went above and beyond to be sure we knew the material. This was the only math class I've gotten a solid A! I will be taking classes from him in the future.
Oremus is perfect because he's perfectly clear about his expectations and the way he teaches the class. Some teaches make a class "easy" by having low expectations; Oremus makes it easy by making everything accessible. If I could, I would never take a class from another teacher.
I LOVED Oremus. I took 1040 this summer semester and was terrified of the idea of stats! Everyone had completely psyched me out about this class. He isn't kidding when he says you will spend 3-5 hours a day on this stuff(if you take it online.) I probably spent 35-40 hrs a week on this class. This class was so interesting. He is awesome!
Great Guy, Very enthusiastic about the subject, and a Very fun and entertaining class. However, if you're going into engineering (you're taking classes at SLCC because it's cheaper) you may want to consider taking this class at the university you aspire to attend. I found this class a bit superficial, mostly focuses on methods not concepts.
Michael Oremus is a great choice for any mathematics course. He knows what you need to know to be successful in your field. His lectures are well planned and upbeat. He keeps students informed about his course plan and expectations so you can plan your study time efficiently. I particularly appreciated the concept review sheets provided for exams.
Be ready to work hard and spend at least 3-6 hours a day on this material. It is very time consuming, but Oremus makes it clear to what he wants and is always available to answer questions. I worked my butt off for this class!
By far the best math teacher I have ever had! He goes the extra mile to make sure you know even basic concepts. This was my second time taking a math class from him. He has crystal clear expectations and makes math fun. You will not regret taking his classes.
Best teacher I've ever had, hands down. He is genuine and kind, and will be there for you in a moment if you are stuck or have questions. He won't make you feel dumb at all. An awesome captain and has amazing personally. Take every math class you can from this guy! But be careful, because he's really cute too, and that may be distracting!
Oremus is the reason why I love math today. I can't overstate my respect and appreciation for him. I used to be slogging my way through my math requirements, now I get excited thinking about the next class I get to take. The way he writes notes on the board is perfect and his tests are fair; you will never regret taking him
His board organization is amazing. Makes complicated material seem simple just because of his organizational skills
I don't like his teaching skills because he jumps and moves alot it gives me distract alot. i would not take this math teacher i consider you to take other teacher than him so far i am falling his class because of his fault oh lord what i do take this class is so hard
Micheal is one of the best Math professors I've ever had. He has a very casual and clear way of teaching. Of course, in order for him to be a good professor you have to do your fair share of the work. Do your homework, show up to class, and you'll be fine. He's a very nice guy that genuinely cares. Just be careful, he gets distracted easily.
This was BY FAR the most time consuming class I have ever taken; however, the online class was perfectly laid out and self-explanatory. This was an extensive class, jam packed full of information to memorize. Fill out the workbooks, gives you extra points on your tests. Watch the videos that explain how to use your calculator, HELPS IMMENSELY!!
Took the class online, and it was hard. Homework every night, Quizzes every Thurs or Fri. I probably shouldve taken the class in a classroom, but I honestly enjoyed learning Stats. He responded to every e-mail I sent, and he was willing to work with me when I wasn't able to turn something in on time. He was great!!
Everyone makes Statisics sound scary. It isn't as terrible as it seems. He is a lot of help, if you ask for it. I took it online, and am TERRIBLE with math. I got a good grade. Do all the homework. Study for the test. Use previous tests to study for the final, and you will do great. The class is a lot of work, so be prepared for 1-3 hours per day.
MR. Oremus is a great teacher. He is an easy grader and teaches in a way that is easy to understand. However, Calc 1 it's self is not easy. I took his class in the summer and it was very fast, but I'm glad I took it from him. Out of all the math professors I had at SLCC I would choose him.
Pretty good professor. His tests are not too bad one you figure out what he expects from you. He practically drops your lowest exam so that's nice. He is very organized and was willing to move the test in order to cover everything so we could understand the content.
I would not recommend. Glad I dropped his class as he gives way too much work and isn't helpful.
Mike is a phenomenal professor, I thought. I took Calc 1 from him and he worked really hard with me to make sure I did well. It was tough, but if you are willing to ask for his help he provides fantastic assistance. If you are willing to put in the time and effort, you will do very well in his class. He is very organized and explains things well.
Prof Oremus is hands down the best Math professor I have ever had. He is very passionate about the subject and really wants his students to learn. He is well organized, but flexible in his teaching schedule. He adapts to the needs of each class, even so far as to move test dates to make sure he gets through the content first.
Oremus was always amazingly well prepared for every lecture. His teaching materials (which he prepares himself) are truly the best I've ever seen. His hand-selected examples in class helped reinforce the theories we were learning. Professor Oremus was always willing to answer questions, and he made himself available for questions after class.
Oremus is one of the best math teachers I have ever taken. I recommend taking his class to anyone whether you love math or hate it. He is so passionate about the subjects it makes learning so much better. He also will show how the different topics are used in the real world. Fair grader- tests on what he covers in lecture. Strongly Recommend!!!
He is a little goofy, but I thought is was very funny. He stays on topic surprisingly well.
Awesome guy, really cares about you understanding the way he teaches. Lots of assignments cause math, but easy if you go to class. Great teacher if you have a hard time understanding. Friendly, not boring, and always prepared. I highly recommend and I hated math!
This class was the one of best math classes I have taken, even though it was sometimes hard to follow up.
Best teacher to just pass math. He knows what he's talking about, however, lectures seem to be geared toward having students memorize math. He rarely goes into proofs and reasoning, and teaches by example problems. This is awesome to get a grade, but be prepared to do a lot of self study if you want to understand math on a deeper level.
One of the best math instructors I've had at SLCC. I was very nervous taking differential equations, but he made this class very easy to understand and always gave real world examples. Very fair grading tests. Wish I had taken his other math classes. The good reviews he has are no joke, simply put, he's an incredible instructor. Highly recommend!
I thought Oremus was fantastic. I took him for Cal I and Calc II and would take him again if he taught any other classes that I needed. Homework is important and there is a homework assignment for each section. Each of his test questions are similar to problems seen in the homework so there is never a surprise. He works with students. RECOMMEND!
Oremus is one of the best teachers/professors that I have ever had. I took him for Calc I and jumped at the opportunity to take him for Stats this semester. He really cares about the subject and teaches it in a way that makes sense to students. He puts in a lot of work to make sure his class is as easy to learn as possible.
I highly recommend taking a class from Prof Oremus. His lectures are clear and concise, he does multiple examples in class that are similar to the homework, and he tells you exactly what topics to study for on his exams. He uses humor as a way to stimulate his lectures which makes learning the topics a bit less arduous. Overall, Awesome Professor.
He teaches math really well and makes sure the class is in the same page. He expects you to do a good amount of homework but it really does help with understanding the material. Definitely one of the best math professors at SLCC!
This guy is an absolute must take. I've never had another math teacher that cared so much about the class. He is willing to take the time to do one-on-ones and will make sure you understand the material. He teaches in a way that makes you look forward to coming to a hard class. He's really fun and just an awesome professor.
Michael is an enthusiastic guy with decent lectures. He assigns a ton of homework but doesn't give feedback apart from whether you did it or not. He DOESN'T give partial credit on exams, which is kind of a big deal in math, and a poor choice in my opinion. Also, he's of the mindset school is a students "job" and reflects that in his courses.
I took this class last year. There were a lot of homework from the textbook. He is a good math teacher but not the best one I have had. He grades toughly, so your grade is not rounded up. As long as you know his style in tests, you'll be fine. I was surprised, how quickly students could finish his tests.
Oremus is the worst professor I have ever had. The average in my class was a D. How is that acceptable? He didn't grade anything in a timely manner. In fact, he didn't have the last exam graded before the final so how was I supposed to know what I messed up on and what I needed to study more of. If at all possible, do not take any of his classes.
I feel like this class is laid out great for an online experience. If you keep up with the homework the tests are a breeze. The teacher was extremely accessible when I had questions, I also had a work trip that was a surprise and he made accommodations for me to take a test early. I appreciate and recognize all efforts he made for the online class
Professor is good but the class is hours of mind numbing homework. Any class that uses myStatlab will suck. Probably a better use your time and mental health to not take Stats at Slcc.
Oremus is available outside of class, His tests are very hard, he grades very tough and no partial points. The homework is INSANE!. Yes, math requires a lot of practice but when the homework doesn't line up with the videos then it's double the time. We used MystatLab which u pay for and it stopped working for me and I got behind. Not worth it!
I had never in my life received a grade higher than a C in any math class until I took Oremus's class. His lectures were amazing! I finally understood so many of the mathematical concepts that other teachers had failed to explain. Oremus wants his students to pass and get the best grade they can, and I really enjoyed learning from him.
He is really good instructor for cal 1. He is flexible, clear grading criteria . In cal 1, we have 4 midterms and one departmental final exam. Easy A if you put little work.
He is a great professor who shows topics in an ordered manner. He explains the topics in a very elementary wat that makes you understand them quickly. There is a ton of homework, 4 midterms and the final. He grabs the quiz questions from the homework, so doing HW will help you 100%.
I've taken a total of 3 math courses from Oremus. I took Calc 2, Calc 3, and DiffEq/LinAlg. He is by far the best math teacher I've ever had! If you go to class and do the homework, the rest is easy. The tests are very similar to homework problems, and he has reviews before every test. I wish I could have taken PDEs from him before going to the U..
Best Math teacher I have ever had, actually the Best teacher I have ever had. He is a great person and a phenomenal teacher. Caring, funny, understanding, the works. He is great in every way and will make math fun and not stressful. I promise!
Math Prof's are hit or miss at slcc, my last prof had 4.8/5 on here and was horrible but Oremus is the real deal. Best teacher I've ever had. Explained horribly difficult concepts so easily! Hw is standard for slcc math classes and the exams usually take from the easiest questions on the homework. Easy A due to have an amazing professor!
He is amazing and really cares about the success of his students. I received a lot of great feedback from him and he is always available outside of class to answer questions.
Very practical, simplifies concepts as much as he can to ensure everyone gets them. Leans into applications quite a bit to show students how the math applies to the real world. Uses guided lecture notes as of 2021 to aid lectures and allow focusing on concepts rather than writing it all down.
Good math instructors at SLCC are hard to come by, Oremus is middle of the road. I took him for a traditional Calc 3 course and he was okay. Lectures are largely problems from the book. He does try to focus on the basics of the course without fluff or intentional trip you up stuff which is good. He is rarely available outside of class though.
I took his broadcast class. Any online class will be difficult if you aren't willing to put in the time and effort to attend lectures, work through the modules, ASK QUESTIONS, and do the work to attempt and understand the material. You get 1 page of notes for the exams that are taken at the Testing Center, and a non-graphing calculator. He cares!
This is one of the best math professors I have ever had. He is very responsive and very patient when you don't get a topic. I recommend Michael a 100%
Best teacher ever!!!!!!! This is a business math class and we ONLY went over business math that applies to real life problems. He is so down to earth and funny. This is the first math class I've felt confident in. He simplifies everything. He also has online videos in canvas. There is homework everyday but 15 problems at most. Recommend 150%.
I really loved this professor. He was so willing to answer all of my questions that I had with the material, and I had a lot! He is very responsive to emails. He is a tough grader on exams and does not give out extra credit, but at the same time that is a good thing because it prepares students for higher level courses past an associate degree.
If you want to learn and understand math professor Oremus is going to be your go-to teacher. This man will give you the best lecture, clear homework problems, easy exams, and has a great teaching style. This has been the only class where I can leave the lecture and finish the homework without needing to look anything up.
The dude is extremely energetic and can get sidetracked fairly easily. You can arrive 15 minutes late and not miss much. He uses guided lecture notes ($10 at the bookstore) that are essentially a condensed version of the textbook. You'll need the textbook for homework problems. Prepare 2-3 hours a week for homework.
One if not the best proffesor I've had at SLCC. I didn't appreciate him enough while I had him after seeing most of the other professors SLCC has to offer. He is funny, engaging, very helpful, and makes you want to enjoy learning. Highly recommend taking his courses. Obviously there's homework, but he gives the opportunity to look over it in class.
He is all over the place and isn't good at lecturing at all. I had to teach myself the whole course. He complicates the math a lot.
Prof Oremus was such a fun professor, he made sure that we were prepared for exams, homework is nice because you get unlimited tries so get a high score on all your homework it really helps the grade. He offers test corrections for partial credit and is so willing to help if he can, his office hours helped me with 1 on 1 homework or review help.
He made Stats so easy. Unlimited tries to all homeworks and projects. Even if you get a bad grade he lets you do it over and over again to get 100%. Loved him for always helping me with anything I needed and super understanding. Prepped super well for exams, get to take note page front/back full of notes for exam. Def could ace this class easy.
Oremus is a great math teacher. I struggled with math in the past but the homework and study guides correlated great with the midterm tests. Stats is hard & there was a lot of homework and exams but if you pay attention, do the homework and put the work in you will succeed. You can really tell he cares for his students and wants them to succeed.
Best teacher! SOO helpful if you aren't understanding math, the materials are easy to learn from, he includes lots of helpful videos to help explain things, and he helps you stay on track and not get behind. I can't say enough good things about him!
If you're looking for an online math 1035 professor, I would highly recommend Professor Oremus. He was clear with his grading rubrics, gave clear instructions, gave constructive feedback, and gave a reasonable amount of homework. Plus, NO FINAL!!! Only 3 exams, and he gives you an astounding amount of resources to help study for the tests.
Best math teacher I've had. He's great at teaching and explains very clearly. Cares about his students and helps you understand with notes.
Oremus is the best math professor I've had. He makes math fun and engaging and he cares about his students' success. Oremus's class opened up my eyes to why math is awesome.
He is pretty good, goes off topic sometimes because he starts the lecture off with an ice breaker. He gives you good feedback on your daily homework assignments and he is a fair grader when it comes to those. His tests are hard but they are comprised of problems SIMILAR but not exactly the ones in the homework and lecture notes.
Oremus is hands down the greatest teacher I have ever had! The environment he condones in his classroom is phenomenal and helps everyone learn well. If you miss a class his guided lecture notes are very helpful for you to learn the topic on your own, and he's always open for office hours and a chat if you need.
Michael is a great lecturer and entertains his class. He's a very kind person even to annoying students!
Professor Oremus makes math fun and engaging. His teaching style and resources like Unstuck ai help simplify complex topics. Homework is manageable, and he's always willing to provide 1-on-1 support.
don't be sacred about the amount of homework assignments there are and just do them at your own pace and you'll get there. I think he was awesome, he understands the students and i think he teaches in a way people can understand so don't hesitate to ask questions because he will definitely help you.
Mr. Oremus is an awesome teacher! I have always struggled with math and he made me feel very comfortable asking questions. He was very open to working with my accommodations. The only thing that was hard about this class was the homework, but as long as you stay on top of it you will be fine. I couldn't recommend Mr. Oremus more!
Professor Oremus is a super caring teacher. It really felt like he cared more that you understood the concepts and conveyed that through your work rather than putting large penalties for missed deadlines or failed first attempts. His course was set up so that you could try concepts out until you got them.
I took Calc 1,3, and 2250 from Oremus. He is a model professor. He puts in time and thought to each class in his spare time, and is great at explaining complex topics in a clear way. You can freely ask questions in or out of class and get his explicit attention until you are comfortable moving on. He likes to have fun and jokes a lot too.
Oremus is the best Professor at SLCC! Loved his class.
