Parella's a great professor. The class can get boring at times, but the tests are really easy since he gives you a study guide (and the answers to it) before the test. The test questions are essentially the same as the study guide but worded differently.

Very Boring. Dosen't use very many visuals and rambles on in his lectures. Tests are easy. Go over the study guide and the class will make more sense and you'll get a good grade.
Good teacher. Mostly lectures. Nice guy if you approach him outside of class and is willing to help. Study guides are the key to his tests.
Depending on your interest in poli sci, the lectures can appear lengthy. Read the book take some notes, then take the test. No busy work in between. His study guide sessions are helpful.
Parella was awesome. Very respectful. No busy work. Straight forward.
Do the Study Guide. He flipped out on us at the end of the year because no one would do it...because we depended on him for the questions. He will give you answers sometimes, but make sure you have some idea what is going on in the study guide and make some people do the study guide.
Do the study guide and the class is easy. His lectures sometimes doesn't answer all the study guide questions and you may miss some as he's talking about it. But he goes over it just in case you missed anything and the book answers most of these questions as well.

Lectures are MIND NUMBING, but other than that its an average/easy class. He is a good guy, repeats himself ALOT, if he didnt repeat himself so much, class would be half the time.
have the answers for the study guide memorized and youll be fine with the tests. the rest of the time he just talks. no activities and almost not even writting on the board easy class unless you dont do the study guide.

I took the online class and yes we had a study guide but I would have to say the tests are hard. Its worded differently but I mean I took summer session so it was a little fast forward but still it was not as easy as I hoped it would be.
Wording on the tests can be somewhat tricky at times but if you read a little bit and go over the study guide it'll be just fine...and he is kind of boring
Kinda boring, but easy. He practically gives you the exam questions and answers in class. He's very interesting and knows a lot.
READ AND DO THE STUDY GUIDE! and go to class.... and you'll do great. He's boring and sometimes rambles, but always lets us out 50 minutes early. To do well on the test, you need to understand what he is teaching, which is fairly easy to do.

Seems like he's lost his desire to teach and just does it for a paycheck now. I was asleep in half of his classes and did my other h.w. in the other half. He's easy, but boring as can be, just make sure to do the study guides and you'll be fine.
The class is very straight forward. The study guide is all the stuff that is on the test. If you know the study guide, it's not hard to get an A. He cares about his students, so if you have a problem with your grade take the time to talk to him about it. He has an odd sense of humor, which is entertaining :)
I had a B average on tests but I got an A in the class because he puts a lot of emphasis on participation. Do the reading and speak up. It will make a big difference.

his class may have been boring, but you didn't need to pay attention to get an A. his study guides are exactly like his tests and he gives no homework. i was barely there and i got A's on all 5 tests. just review the study guide and you should be fine. also, he may seem bitter & grumpy, but sometimes it helps to participate & be nice to him.

Boring class. So boring... Opressive atmosphere. If you make the mistake of establishing eye contact with him, he'll lecture at you individually for as long as you let him. It's pretty creepy. The study guide tells you everything you need to know, and he can be funny. Not too bad. Did a lot of neat drawing.
quite hard to stay awake in this class. he lectures the entire time and you have to stay awake and listen. he'll have a study guide for you before the test and you have to do it cuz he'll pick on random people to answer the questions. tests are fairly easy. show up to class because after like 3 absences, he'll drop you.
I took his political science class online and it is one of the most easiest classes. He provides you with a chapter outline and summary wich all the questions for the quiz/test come from. so all in all it's an easy A.
The class is fairly easy because he gives you a study guide and that's where the tests come from. He's a nice guy and somtimes can go off on tangents. It can be boring if you don't care about politics. Just study the study guide and you'll be fine.
OMG! He just lectures and talks about his years in war and gives out pop quizes, and tests. If you get bored easily don't even bother taking his class, but if your a schooly go right ahead u'll do fine.
Tests are hard. You get 3 hrs to take test on line. I always used up the complete 3 hrs and averaged a b! Read his syllabys and you should be fine.
This class ended up being very fun. At first I was skeptical but if taken with a friend it turns out to be a blast. He goes off on many tangents and if you can get him started on a subject he will speak on it for a good portion of the class. Tests are somewhat difficult but there is a study guide given for every one. Overall I say its worth it.
i took this class online and it turned out to be an easy A..my stategy was reading each chapter while completing the study guide and taking the quiz at the same time. even though theres no time limit, the quizzes were pretty hard. the tests, however, were EXACTLY the same questions that were on the study guide. online class is based 100% off book

Very easy going, found the class interesting since i initially had an interest in politics. JUST ANSWER THE QUESTIONS ON THE GUIDE USING THE TEXTBOOK AND U WILL DEFINITELY GET AN A. FURTHERMORE HE GOES THRU THE GUIDE IN CLASS.....
Super EASY! If you want an A read the book, but if you just want a B write down all the answers for the study guide the class before the exam and memorize key words. If you know the study guide, you are guaranteed a B. No homework, no busy work! And Parrella is pretty funny!

He sucks! he doesn't give any help when asked questions. he is also BORING!!!!!! all he does is talk talk talk without explaining anything. I thought I wanted to major in the subject but after having him changed my mind.
If you want a B just do the study guide, he gives you the answers class before test. If you want an A read the chapters. They are long but it helps. Only hw is 2 reports which are easy. Class is way boring, he does have some good dry humor. At times the material is interesting. Try to participate in class because it does constitute a lot of points.
I took his 4 week summer school course at SCC. He gives 5 tests in 4 weeks, and provides study guides upfront in the syllabus. If you answer the study guide, and use flash cards to memorize. You will ace the test, because the test is almost word for word.
I enjoyed his class. There were some boring moments but overall i thought it was informative.

Extremely unhelpful and rude. I took Mr.Parella for an online course and everytime I wrote him with an e-mail with a specific question, he would give me a one sentence answer (usually telling me to"check the syllabus" without answering my question.He's not understanding AT ALL. I dropped his course (while maintaining a B)due to condicending emails.
class was easy because he gives you the study guide & answers, BUT overall as a teacher, not very good. kinda rude &.. spacey in the head. wouldn't necessarily recommend him, but I've had worse. he's 'iight.
Extremely liberal. Be prepared to answer all questions in the exact format of the book. I didnt read it until I was taking the quizzes/tests online and did fine.
Not very helpful and gives the impression that you are disturbing him from his ever so important afternoon nap. He even went as far as to include an announcement that if you emailed him after 8pm, he would delete the email!!! The online class consists of quizzes and tests, no other assignments, no discussion board - nothing!

EXTREMELY BORING, but definitely an easy A. I took him in a summer course, and I was bored to tears most of the time, but I passed with flying colors. He gives you a study guide and it's pretty much the key to the test. If you can handle the pressure of staying awake, take his class.
this guy just wants to retire, literally... he said that. repetitive/boring lectures, horrible notes so take the best poss notes. just show up to class, pay attention during study guide review days and u'll do well on tests. Trying to stay awake during class is the hard part.
Worst online instructor I've ever had. Here's a hint: go to the books website and take the online quizzes most of them are identical to the ones on BB. Grade is based on 160pts(quizzes) & 200pt final. His responses to questions are rude and not one bit helpful. BEWARE, he's not a good teacher!
I took this as a 4 week online summer class and had no contact with the professor, so I cannot confirm or deny students' comments below. There were two aspects of this course: 1) 16 quizzes that had 10 MC questions and 2) a comprehensive final which had 100 MC questions. Just read each chapter and complete his study guide. Simple.
SUPER easy. He gives study guides and answers before each test which are pretty much identical to the actual test. Lectures are a little boring, but his sense of humor keeps the class moving. Always seems open to students asking questions. You have to be super, super lazy to fail this class. Tests are super easy even if you don't go to his lecture.

I took him for introduction to political theory, not too hard. Just pre-read the textbook for the quizzes and study a bunch for the exam.
DO NOT BUY THE TEXT BOOK! waste of money and he never used it once. Three quizes and two extra credit quizes. four test including final. Great guy no homework or papers. Easiest class ive taken the study guide is the exact same thing as the test! just take good notes thats what the quizes are based on.
I took this class online, and I learned a lot. This professor answers emails very quickly and he arranges the material so that you can work ahead if you would like to. The class consists of reading the text book and taking quizzes and exams. Everything is arranged in a very straightforward manner, no class meetings, very convenient.
He is such a cool teacher! Very funny and enjoyable to be in class with. Attend class and take lecture notes. If you complete the study guides, you will get an easy A. He made me want to switch my major to PoliSci. Great, great professor.
Took him for american government online. read the ENTIRE book, though if you wanted to, you could just do the study guide, and not read. everything that was on the study guide was on the exam. No class meetings and you can work ahead. I finished the class in 3.5 weeks (8 week class). If you do the study gide it's an easy a, and you can learn too!
Easy B. If you want an A you have to study for the quizzes. He gives out the answers on a study guide the class before the test. His notes on the white board are illegible and he goes on long tangents.
Dude, any teacher that gives out a study guide is AWESOME, he gives a study guide with page numbers where you can find the answer!!! so you are an idiot if you cannot pass this class. he might not be the most fun person during class, but i enjoyed watching how much he likes polysci. he answers your questions, gives you a heads on quizzes, LOVE!
Parella is really easy. His class can be an easy A if you actually study for his tests. He hands out study guides with all of the questions that are on the test, with page numbers of the answers as well, so you have to read and find the answers. He also tells you when the quizzes will be and also the questions, as well. Attendance isn't mandatory.
So EASY. The study guide was exactly like the test! I never even wrote down notes and passed every test. Hands down easiest class i've ever had.
Hands down the easiest class this last semester. There was no HW, no quizes, no discusion boards, nothing other than 4 tests. Your grade consists of these 4 tests which he also provides study guides for. The study guides are pretty much the same quiestions as the tests. If you can't pass this class with an A or B, there is something wrong with you.

class isnt THAT easy.attendance isnt mandatory but you have to show up to know when quizzes are. studied guides are about 4/5 of the test BUT he does change the wording which will completely change the questions
Easy class. Parella gives you a list of things to study for the tests, and follows it verbatim. Very personable professor who gives you every chance to succeed. Just do the work and you'll get a good grade. Likes to compare politics to sports. (Fall '12)
Everyone said this class was easy, but he's made it harder. There are no page #'s to find the study guide answers, we now have UNANNOUNCED quizzes and to top it all off he's mean and boring. I REALLY dislike him but I need this class. Take another professor for Poli Sci if you can. I would've if I could've, but now I'm stuck here until it's over.

Class is not my fav. subject. Its a lot of work but if you read the book you will be fine. Took online 5 exams, gives study guide. Bottom line put in the work you will get an A.
It was an easy A for me but you have to read and answer all his study guides (5) coz it sure helped me a lot. Took the online class, only 5 major tests. My computer was old and it froze when i was in the middle of the exam, Dr. Parella reset the exam for me. Recommended!!

Professor Parella is a great professor. If you come to class, read, and do your work, you'll get a good grade in all his classes. He likes hard working students and is willing to help those students with improving their grade. I found his lectures very interesting and helpful for the exams. Great professor, would recommend.
Boring lecture, which is terrible because the tests are on his lectures. If you don't want to listen to the lecture, be ready to read a textbook that is way too detailed. When he lectures he'll scribble down random phrases of what he's talking about on the board which doesn't help. Terrible handwriting. Awful for ppl w short term memory attn span.
Although his class is hard, if you show up to the lectures, and read the chapters briefly, then there will be no reason not to pass. I took his class spring of 2015 and received an A, without really studying. Would give advise of taking extensive notes during his lectures, and the future student should have absolutely no problems passing.
Was a tough class for me. Had to keep up with reading and lectures. Test questions aren't clear cut but do come from book.
Professor Parella is not as horrible as people say he is, his teaching is just reeally boring (WARNING: do not take his class at 7 am). Otherwise it's a fairly easy class. Just make sure to read and study for tests and quizzes and that's about it
Parella is awesome, I don't understand why he has negative reviews. His class is incredibly easy: lectures and tests which were identical to the study guide he provided. He also provided an extra credit paper (25 pts) which really helps your grade. Write down everything he talks about and do the study guide.
This class was very easy to maintain a good grade. He is an excellent teacher that keeps your interest throughout the lecture. He tells you exactly what will be on the quizzes and tests. As long as you study what he tells you, you will pass with flying colors.

HORRIBLE he is very strict, rude, grumpy, and mean AND unhelpful. His tests are hard you will study AND STILL FAIL. He is unhelpful Disappointed I had to drop out and lose credits and get behind even if I had extremely good grades in my other classes except this one. So this explains a lot if I was passing in all other classes BUT this one
Worst professor Ive had! He is always extremely rude to his students. He lectures off the book but doesnt even get up to lecture. He sits down the whole time while lecturing. And whatever he writes on the board never makes any sense. Save yourself the time and find another professor. I highly recommend Cale Crammer than this professor.
I literally had trouble staying awake because of how egregiously boring this class was. 30% of his lectures actually covered the subject while 70% was comprised of him projecting his political views onto the students. Humanities is a joke; I can't believe that this is on a list of mandatory classes needed to transfer.
