I loved taking real estate finance with professor James. He was one of my few teachers who I feel I actually learned something from while UNCC went remote. I would definitely recommend him for real estate finance.

Uses resources better than most; youtube videos, laser pointer, powerpoints, microphone, take home spreadsheets, etc. On the 1st day I was scared because I knew it could be a hard course, but he made it fun and understandable. Literally like going to a motivational seminar every class. Workload was fair. Grading was fair.

I recommend this Professor in the Real Estate class. In general, professor James is great. He makes the lectures interesting. The exam is based on the homework assignments. If you want an A, you will have to work on the homework.

I took him for real estate finance and I highly recommend you take it with him!!! The course itself is hard but he really breaks down the material to make sure we understand. The class isnt an easy A but if you pay attention during lecture , study, and participate you should be able to pass. If I can pass with a B then youre guaranteed to pass!

I had M-PJ in spring 2021. He's in my list of top professors of my college experience. He does make class enjoyable and not mono-tone/lecture heavy & includes real world experience. You can tell he cares if you learn something from his class. However, with that said the material itself is NOT easy so you'll need to study & do the practice questions

He is a very great instructor, great person, and an inspirational man. Do the work, pay attention, and ask questions, and you will be perfectly fine.

Great professor who truly understands what he's teaching forward & backwards. Teaches not just the bare minimum, but also provides lots of great real estate insights that will benefit you in real life. You cover a lot of material in this class but the professor goes over everything you need to know for the exams. If you study the study guides and understand the questions, you will do just fine in his exams.

Professor James is one of the best professors I ever had during college. He has a lot of experience within the real estate realm and I certainly got a good education from him. I would take him again if I had the chance. I have no complaints for his teaching methods. He makes sure we understand things before moving on and helps outside of class.

If you're really into learning Finance not just passing it, he is your go-to professor. His assignments, presentations are designed in a way that will make you learn Finance. It is not that tough if you start working on it from the start and never hesitate to ask questions or tell him to slow down he'll definitely work with you if you participate.

Great professor in explaining the processes and the math work.

Class is definitely tough but come to class, pay attention to the problems, and youll be fine. Proctorio with webcam for tests but you get a cheat sheet.

The tests are really hard if you dont participate with him in class. I got Cs and under for each test bc I missed a class and didnt catch up but the final group project and extra credit assignments brought me back up by then end of the semester. You can tell he really cares and will try to work with you if you need help. Hard test but good prof.

Great professor, makes you work for your grade harder than any other professor ive ever taken but he is very rewarding with grades. His homework is helpful and is very easy. His tests are brutal though, you HAVE TO STUDY. This subject in general is not extremely easy so take James and youll be thankful.

Overall great professor, I learned a lot and he kept it interesting. Be ready though because he goes fast. Lots of homework, he likes to call on people, and he talks fast. One of the best professors I've ever had at UNCC. Very caring and wants all of his students to succeed. There's one exam and a final group project. Attend class and ask questions, and you should be fine. His weekly quizzes are pretty easy. He provides information/advice that will help you in the long run. Overall, a really great professor.

Professor James was THE best professor I have had at UNCC. The work load can get overwhelming but you will learn so much from him. This was by far my favorite class. Professor James aka Professor Kelly is the best professor to have for Real Estate major and honestly in general also. I already knew a good amount about CRE but he taught me so much more and actually helped me understand it. He provided excellent opportunities for all of his students. Nobody cares more about what they teach than him.

Cares about everyone passing and doing well. Sometimes it feels like he is trying to rush through the lectures but encourages everyone to ask questions.

Take him. The work is difficult, but that's because he cares and wants you to understand the material.

You have a lot of homework, class is based on average, attendance counts, you have extra credits, and the exam comes out of the homework problems.

If you are willing to feel overwhelming every single day, this is the professor you need. He is a great teacher, he would look for ways to make you learn and dominate the topic. Investment is a really hard class so prepare for several assignments due every week lots of problem sets, tests, extra credits, class meetings to work with Prof Jack.

Very helpful as a professor.First professor at this university where I felt comfortable talking to him like he was a human. Great professor. I took the class during a half summer semester. Take him seriously when he says the problem sets reflect the exams. I messed up an easy A at the rate I was going because of a bombed test, simply because I focused on the quizzes and not the problem sets. Went above and beyond to accommodate disabilities.

Professor James is a great professor! He is what you should expect in college. He works hard to ensure everyone understands the material, which includes taking some of his own time to tutor other students. My ONLY gripe with him is he spells "write" incorrectly, he uses "right".

Just take him. You will not regret going to class.

Don't let his score fool you, this class is for though ppl. if you have 3 hours class, expect 3+ hours of non stop information. Jack-Kelly will help you to learn and pass as long you work, come to class, participate, come to his optional meeting as well. This is a very hard class so don't expect an easy A because you will be disappointed.

Great professor who cares about his students success.

This professor is amazing. I had a great time in this class. He really makes his lectures fun to be in and interesting because he has such a large background in the real world on what he teaches. I would 100% recommend anyone that can take him. I would take him for every class if I could.

Really cool teacher, his class is really fun. However, he gives a lot of quizzes as hw, he rushes through material & his tests are pretty difficult. But he gives a lot of extra credit. There is a group project/presentation. Beware he makes mistakes on his tests, threw me off.

I loved everything about this class from the excel problem sets, to the guest speakers, to the REIT presentation! Keep your financial calculators ready and stay sharp because he will call on you randomly. He has great experiences to share that applies directly to the concepts, and has a great sense of humor! By far my favorite class taken at UNCC!

Took Professor James this past Fall of 2022 and thoroughly enjoyed his course FINN3261. Make attendance a priority because you do not want to miss any material or opportunity to network with the professionals that come in at the beginning/end of class sessions. He also wants to see his students succeed and values them as individuals. Great class.

Real Estate Finance with Professor James in Spring 2023 was a transformative experience for me. His unparalleled commitment to his students' success left a lasting impact. Professor James's Real Estate Finance class was one of my favorite classes that I have taken at UNCC. He is very passionate about the subject and encourages the class to participate and think critically. If you study hard then you can easily get an A in the class. If you do not put in the time and effort then you will not do well.

Show up to class or you will not pass his class. He gives out quizzes at every class and his lectures are very long and will last the entire time if not longer. Do not expect to get out early. Participation is mandatory. He is very wild, but super interesting and his class is fun. Make sure you know excel as well as it is used heavily.

The material is tough but the professor is great. He is one of the top real estate minds in the area so I would highly recommend taking him if you want to get in to the field. He gives you every possible opportunity to succeed so the only way to fail the class is if you do not care.

FIN 3222 is one of the more difficult classes in the Finance program and this is made clear from the beginning of the course. Nonetheless, Dr. James does the best job possible to ensure the material is available to learn if you put the effort in. Attendance is heavily encouraged.

He was great, I took Investments over the summer and it was a 4 hour class but honestly he was so enthused to be there it didn't feel that long, or that boring. The material is tough but I bombed all 3 exams & got a B so do your homework, do the extra credit, & participate as much as u can and ur golden. Spend time making ur cheat sheet for exams!

Everyday there is an in class quiz. Professor prepares you well for exams. Study hard and come to class. I took this class not needing the credit to graduate. I really enjoyed this class and it was my highest grade this semester.

If you are interested in Real Estate in any form, take this professor! He is very knowledgeable in the subject matter and is a great communicator. Quizzes are taken every day, so be sure to review the material frequently. There's also plenty of extra credit and a group project where you find a REIT to invest in. I would highly recommend him!

One of the best buisness professors there is at uncc. He can be intense at times but is always realistic and understanding class is very fun and easy to learn with as well as hearing his personal stories he has. Class may seem difficult but if you come to class and follow what he says it is not difficult at all working with others helps alot

One of my favorite professors I've had during my college experience. Beware, he does call on people at random, but just pay attention and you'll be perfectly fine. There are also quizzes every single class period, but they are only about four questions and they take less than 10 minutes to complete. He also emphasizes networking, be ready to talk!

Drops lowest quizzes &offers EC. 4 open note exams multiple choice and numerical. Office hrs go over test problems. 4 problem sets with questions you will see on the exams. You can work together. 5min presentation.

He looks like Ryan Gosling... No he's good I just wish he was less heavy on slides because I'm not a fan of PowerPoints and he usually has a TON of info just on one slide.

overall I would recommend this prof. He does a good job teaching, the real estate finance class i had him for was difficult but he made it understandable.

This class is incredibly easy as long as you show up, attendance isn't taken but he does have a quiz every class that counts as a grade. He explains subjects as many times as you need him to, and he does everything he can to help you succeed. There are a couple of times when he can be a bit blunt, but that's just how he operates.

He goes into detail about the information he is presenting in class, and wants everyone to succeed. He has good intentions, but he can be overwhelming at times. He does not stick to the time limit in class.

Professor James will teach you everything you need to pass this class with a high B or A. He keeps an enthusiastic atmosphere which is good considering how long the class is. He never lets you out early but covers material throughout the whole class. Attendance is not mandatory but quizzes can only be taken in class so keep that in mind. It's fun!

Awesome professor and really tried to make investments as learnable as possible for all of us. He took his time outside of class to help us during office hours and made more office hours on top of that. That way we learn the material. Offers extra credit too.

I took this during the summer so it was a bit intense than regular semester. Attendance wasn't mandatory but missing class took away the ability to understand the information. Professor James really wants you to understand the work so he never has a problem explaining it over until you got it. He isn't a difficult professor the course is difficult.

Genius Professor who cares about you unerstanding the material. Because he is incredibly well versed in the topic, it can sometimes be hard to follow his lectures. Quizzes pretty much every class, exams can be a little tough, but overall a good class. If you're willing to learn he's going to do everything possible to make that happen.

Great guy, knows his stuff and gives good advice because he was previously in the field. However he talks fast and class is most of the time confusing. Easy A class because he lets you write cheat sheets all of the answers for multiple choice and how to do every numerical question on exams. Writing down your cheat sheets are essential for success.

Professor James is a great teacher who runs a fast-paced class. Tests and quizzes are open-note, but attendance is required for quizzes, which happen almost every class. Professor James aka PJ is an awesome professor. Be prepared for critiques and snarky comments because he more than likely won't sugar coat feedback. Information may be crammed into your head from time to time but he is more than willing to help and walk you through but ASK YOUR CLASSMATES FIRST. MAKE A CLASS GC ASAP!!!

Professor James was one of the best professors I have had throughout the my college experience at UNC Charlotte. He teaches his content clearly and teaches in a way to grabs your attention. Professor James is an excellent professor, there's no way you do bad in his class. His exam's are open note which help alot while taking them. You should expect to take an attendance quiz every day you have class but it's only 5 questions and he drops your 5 lowest at the end of the semester.

This was by far the greatest professor I've had during my college career. He is extremely fun, personable, uses examples that are relatable and easily understood. Inspirational and down to earth, would definitely take his class again and could not recommend more!!! Will give you real advise and be straightforward and is willing to explain further.

As long as you do the PS you should be fine. He's not the best lecturer but if you attend office hours he will thoroughly explain whatever you want. Make friends or you will fail.

Professor James clearly knows what he's talking about, he moves fast but will slow down and go through a topic. There were several rather difficult tests, but he allows notes, just prep well. Other assignments were Excel, attendance on non test days isn't counted but quizzes each class. Just come in and do the work, would definitely recommend.

There are a lot of assignments but are easy to complete and helps learn. Make sure not to procrastinate problem set. Allowed to have written notes on exams and quizzes.

if you enjoy having a quiz every class, and don't mind 30-question problem sets due before each exam, then this is the course for you. While attendance isn't graded, I wouldn't recommend missing class. If you do miss, going over the slideshow will help, but I wouldn't make a habit of it you can fall behind quickly if you miss several days in a row.
