Best math teacher I have ever had! Take his classes if at all possible! He is very patient and gives other examples if you do not understand the first one. Really cares about his students. If I can understand math from taking his course, you can too! Wish there were more teachers like him!
This guy is amazing-by far the best math teacher i have ever had. I used to fear math, but i did well in calculus! Do his recommended hw and ask him for help-he loves to give it. Very clear & understandable and a really nice guy.
Mr. Quail was outstanding! Very willing to work with his students, very helpful, very patient. Great personality! I really enjoyed his class, and will sign up for his math classes as often as I can.
My first college class I sat in 10 years ago. Calculus 1. Recieved a D first time then took it again with Quail back in 95 got an A. I went on to get a bachelor's in math do in part to him. The best teacher I ever had in college and in any subject. Wish i could have thanked him
Best teacher I have ever had, period. I would recommend him to everyone. I wish he taught higher level classes. Oh yeah, he's super nice and organised.
Mr. Quail was the best math teacher I have had so far at WCC. He was so clear and straight forward with his processes of answering and giving questions. His extra credit helped my grade too. Work hard and you should do really well in his class.
Wonderful teacher. explains in different ways so everyone can understand. you should take this teacher because he is really good.
Dr. Q is an excellent teacher!!! I would recommend him to anyone having trouble in any math class. He likes to see everyone succeed, and do well. GREAT TEACHER
I had Mr. Quail for Calculus 2, I wish he taught all of my calculus courses. I went on to engineering school, and Quail is by far superior to all professors I have ever had.
Probably the best math teacher I've ever had. Mr. Quail is especially great because he's extremely straight-forward. He doesn't complicate things with trick questions or topics unrelated to math, and as long as you do his assigned homework and ask for help if you need it, you'll do great. He's also pretty funny, and he's got a great personality.
Eazyiest math teacher Im taking him again next semester
He is Great!! He is really helpful and nice. He makes class really easy and he gives enough extra credit to raise your grade. He can make Boring Calculus really interesting and easy. He has a speical way to answer your questions. He treats everybody same.He will teach how to use calculator. The exams are really easy.nice guy
Great teacher. Definitely knows the material he's teaching. Treats everyone the same, and always welcomes questions. Took cal 2 during the summer so the course was accelerated. He somehow manages to lecture 3 hours of material in 30 minutes, and it's all crystal clear. Would definitely recommend his class to anyone.
great teacher. explains material very clearly, welcomes questions, gives extra credit. tests are hard but not impossible
Mr. Quail is a great teacher and an extremely nice guy. I do wish that his class was a little bit harder though. At times, it was made too easy to really prepare students for higher-level courses.
Awesome teacher! Best of the best. Extremely nice and very very well educated in the subject!
Fantastic teacher. He loves to teach and is not afraid to show it. I wish he tought calc III.
The best teacher I have ever had in my life!!!! I recommend him for all math classes especially Calculus.
I had him for Calc 1 and 2 and he is great! He's always in his office for office hours and is really helpful. The exam review he gives before each exam is worth 10 extra credit points and then he offers other extra credit throughout the semester. I would highly recommend taking Calculus with him!
Great teacher, is very helpful. He lecutres and then gives you practice sheets to do so make sure you get to class on time. Most the time you'll finish the practice way before the class is suppose to end and you can leave. His reviews are just like his test. Overall great teacher and wants you to understand, a stand up guy
Mike Quail is one of the best teachers I have had. He genuinely cares about his students. He structures the class so that you get in-class practice. Then, he provides the answers so you can make sure you're doing everything right. If not, he is constantly walking around the class providing one on one help. He welcomes questions with enthusiasm.
Mr. Quail is so sweet. He really tried to make sure you understand everything and he doesn't get frustrated one bit even if he has to sit there for an hour. He is awesome. Definitely take him!
Excellent professor. Allows you a cheat sheet for tests, random extra credit (if you deserve it) and has a genuine interest and concern for you. If you don't show up to class, it's your loss. Take advantage of his office hours, ask for help if you need it. He's very patient, and explains everything!
I thought this class was extremely hard, but Mr. Quail made this class more tolerable. He was ALWAYS extremely helpful, always in his office, and he is literally the kindest person I have ever met. When I felt like an idiot, Quail was always there to help and he never made me feel stupid. Take this guy, he's amazing. Thank you, Mr. Quail!!!
The guy is very nice, his style is great too. He basically spends the first hour showing you how t do them and the last hour doing "practices" so he can see how everyone learned the information and so that if you have a question, he can help you. Great guy, highly recommended!
Great guy, knows what he's talking about, has no problem working with people individually. Seems passionate about his work as well.
Mr Quail is an upstanding citizen, and he really cares about his students. He makes slightly funny jokes, such as calculating the speed of his Lambourghini, and over all I highly recommend him.
Mr. Quail is an awesome teacher. He helped in everything that required to be covered. Anything that was not well understood in other classes, Mr. Quail never hesitated to help. He cares for every student to pass his class and tests, that's why he provides all the help needed and all the extra credits. Thank you Mr. Quail, I appreciate you patience
Fairly easy class IF you try. He's got the patience of a saint and will work with you one on one all class period if necessary or in his office. All around nice guy and makes class quite enjoyable.
He's a really nice guy and is very patient and compassionate to his students. However, he's not easy and if you're not a math major his class will be difficult. He will help you as much as he can though and he wants his students to pass.
Prof Quail is the most helpful teacher I have ever had. The class isn't exactly "easy" but it's Calculus. He makes it bearable and will work with you one on one for as long as you need. He's pretty funny too. I really enjoyed the class and will be taking another with him. Highly recommend him.
Was NOT impressed. He was nice and very helpful and he gives a lot of extra credit but he skipped things in the chapter which are need to knows in higher classes. His worksheets and practice tests are easy, but the exam is super random and hard. Expect definitions and chapter titles on tests. Overall class was east but be prepared for this teacher.
Excellent teacher. Makes use of all the time given, and usually it's surprising when the class is over. Goes over the homework for 45 minutes, lectures for an hour, then gives 45 minutes for in-class practice, during which he walks around and gives individual help. Phenomenally useful. I want him for all my classes ever.
Prof Quail is one of my favorites. He is not an "easy" professor, but if you do the homework, and do the extra credit you should do well. He is probably the most helpful professor I have ever had. Took him for three courses.
He is a AMAZING teacher. I enjoyed his class so much I begged him to teach calc 3. Just go to class and do the hw. He lets you use a full page of notes for every test
not impressed. pay 100 dollars for homework or fail. I barely had money to take the class, let alone pay 100 right from the beginning or loose massive points
Great teacher. His class time is incredibly well laid out, despite it being a 2 1/2 hour math class, it always breezed by. If I'm taking a math class, I absolutely always look for him. Two classes with him so far.
Mr. Quail was a very helpful and intelligent teacher. I had him for Calculus 2 and it was a great class because he knew what he was talking about.
He's so dang nice! He cares about every single one of his students. You feel like you're best friends after you talk to him once. He's super organized with his notes, always in outline format. He is awesome at teaching one on one and will always help you. Best teacher I've ever had at wcc and prolly second best I've ever had.
Easily the best math teacher I've EVER had. After taking Calculus I with him, I easily signed up for Calculus II and III with no second thoughts. He's nice, funny, very helpful, and his lectures are so crystal clear and rock solid that they make 1000 times more sense than the textbook. Highly recommended!
He is the best math teacher I have ever had and after taking him for calc 1, I have taken him in every class he offers. His teaching style can be a little confusing, but if you don't understand anything he will help you for as long as it takes to understand. He also offers a lot of extra credit which is really cool.
Absolutely wonderful math teacher! Explains things very clearly and is very helpful if you do not understand. Class format is helpful with practice exercises in class. The BEST math teacher I have had.
Really REALLY nice guy, Uses WEB-ASSIGN which is AWESOME, Really tries hard to make his class easy and get his material across. His board notes however, are a bit disorganised, He might find it helpful to write his notes out beforehand and then copy them to the board during class - I had another prof who does this and he is crystal clear
Laid back and always willing to help. Best teacher for any math class!!!
Professor Quail is HANDS DOWN the best professor I have ever had for any class. I actually had him 2 years ago, but still think of him as the best. If you can, TAKE HIS CLASS. He really knows calculus and he explains it clearly to any student. He is encouraging and not condescending at all.
This guy is a bit addle brained - makes lots of mistakes on the board so taking notes can become a challenge. Also he expires the webassign work a few days after the class in which it was assigned. Be prepared to teach yourself as his lectures get progressively more useless as the semester progresses.
Hands down the best teacher I have ever had. With all the extra credit opportunities, note sheets provided throughout the class, and great teaching methods you should be able to, quite handily, obtain an A in any class he teaches with a great amount of knowledge from the class.
Mr. Quail is super nice, helpful, and I loved him.
Excellent teacher. Second course I have had him for, going on third. Being that I am studying to be a Math teacher, he is an excellent example.
He was a really great teacher, and super helpful.
Mr. Quail is clear as to what is expected from his students. He is really good at helping students with questions and the WebAssgin homework questions. He doesn't accept late work, so turn in everything on time. Don't buy the book, I never used it. Pay attention in class, take notes, and you'll pass.
Awful at explaining! Talking to himself and the blackboard. When having questions no answers and asks back the same question me!
Prof Q is the best teacher I have had in college. he helps take a challenging class (Calc 2-3) and makes it very approachable for student. I honestly understand math so well today because of his teaching style.
Stay away from online class .. 4.0 student and he was not helpful at all. Just please stay away for your own good
Mr. Quail is clear about what is expected from his students. He is super helpful for students with questions and the WebAssgin homework questions. Take note, review them before each class and solve all the practice sheet & the WebAssgin homework. you will learn a lot in his class.
TAKE THIS CLASS! I took his class online and received an A. He is so nice and understanding. He would meet with me a couple times a week in person to help teach me the concepts and go over the homework. I don't like math but taking it with him I enjoyed it. Explains concepts very well. The best math teacher I have ever had. Thanks Professor Q!
He gives a lot of homework so it is important to keep up. That being said each assignment individually isn't particularly demanding, but it is always extremely relevant to what is being done in class. He has good warm up assignments every class that you can earn extra credit on. His lectures are on point, somehow he explains everything perfectly.
(Online class) Pros: Very hands-off, replies quickly to emails, very positive and gives good feedback. Cons: Can't think of any with an online course. MTH 176 was tough for me. A lot of time spent completing homework/exam prep. I recommend inserting past assignments on a onenote file for use during tests. Would recommend online class.
Prof Q had a very organized online class and did a great job of encouraging interaction between the students. The tests were appropriately written with a similar difficulty level to the homework. He was very easy to contact in case of questions or concerns and responded to emails within 24 hours. I would definitely take again. Good Prof.
I took his mth176 online this semester. As it was an online class, I didn't expect him to be as communicative as he was, absolutely amazing. He explains in his syllabus that it usually takes him up to 48 hours to respond to emails but it didn't usually take that long. As long as you know what you're doing you should be fine in the class.
Professor Q is the best online professor that I have ever had. He emails back extremely fast which is obviously very important when taking an online course. He was in the hospital and still managed to email me back when I had questions. The content is difficult but not impossible.
Professor Quail was a solid Calculus 3 professor. The lectures left a little to be desired, but the material itself was never too difficult if you have a strong foundation of calculus to begin with. His tests are straight forward, not too difficult, usually around 10-15 questions. You are given opportunities for extra credit, and he's very nice.
Prof Quail is probably the nicest professor I have ever had and extremely willing to help. I was always scared of calculus before this course but he made it really understandable.
This was an online Calc 11 course. Prof Q responded to every email within the day. If I didn't understand a problem he would direct me to websites and watch YouTube videos. Had a great sense of humor over our emails. Would definitely recommend. The test are difficult but he is fair, if you do all the work and discussion boards you will pass.
Professor understands material and was helpful. Responds quickly to email and will show examples of how to do work. He is there for the student. There were two to three assignments due per week, one exam at the end of each chapter. Mid-terms and finals are not lengthy, and the reviews were used as extra credit if turned in before taking the exam
Prof. Quail is a really nice guy. He tries to make the class easy and go through all the material. lots of bonus opportunities. One thing, his lectures aren't the greatest and can leave you wondering, though. He wouldn't be my first choice, but he's an easy second, and you won't regret taking him.
Quail has been the best calc professor I have had. It's clear he cares a lot about his students' success and I really enjoyed my time in his class. I learned and retained a lot of material from him. If you need calc 3, look no further than this guy.
Prof Quail is very knowledgeable & cares about helping you do well. Doing the e.c. reviews before chapter exams was helpful, but I did not feel very prepared when actually taking the test. I took the final exam and more than half of the questions on the final exam review were NOT on there.. not sure if I did good enough. Wouldn't recommend online.
Mr. Quail is a very kind teacher and he is there if you need extra help. However, I do NOT recommend ever taking this class online, unless youre great at math. It is very difficult and the book doesnt help at all. Most students relied on YouTube the whole semester. Also, the midterm and final are taken on campus and they are not like the guide.
Professor Q was a great teacher overall! He gives you the opportunity to successful pass this class. it's just up to you to pay attention to the course schedule and do the work.
Did not seem like he cared about students' grades or concerns, was only preoccupied with assigning his in class assignments all the time.
Awful lecturer, didn't care about students concern
Never shows us a grading rubric for his exams. He just gives grades based on his whims and fancies.
Currently finishing the end of my online course with him. While at times I found the material difficult he was always very responsive to emails. It is very useful in this course to schedule office time with him once per unit to go over the material before an exam it helps tremendously! Also make sure to watch his calculator tutorials!
Quail is very nice and will help you learn. He also gives tons of extra credit opportunities so come to class. Participate and be active in class and I believe you'll do well.
Absolutely wont recommend this class. He give extra credit if you sit in the front of the class which doesn't make sense to me. Essentially the grading is not standardized. You could fail exams and pass the class because of extra credit or vice versa which I don't get.
Prof Q starts with a warm-up exercise to review concepts. If any student in the class puts a solution on the blackboard, they get an extra 2 points. The extra 2 points can make a small difference in the overall grade at the end of the semester but will not turn an F into a passing grade. Prof Q uses guided notes followed by practice exercises.
Cares about student success.
A high schooler taking AP calc can teach better than him.
Wants every student to be successful.
Work hard and you will do well. Those who do get an A or a B.
Gives guided lecture notes relating math to real world.
Offers lots of videos in his online classes. Calc 2 is a difficult course so ask for help if you need it ASAP and he will meet with you. Truly wants you to succeed.
Prof Q makes it so you can be successful in an online math class. He will meet with you on campus or in a video chat.
Makes things way harder than it should be. He is also very subjective in his grading, which you may or may not benefit from. I'd suggest going for better Profs. in the college and you'd be less likely to hate yourself.
awesome
Very helpful during these difficult times. Helping students get through the course.
Wants his students to succeed and Is helping students to get through this Pandemic semester.
Really helpful during these hard times
Available and wants to help!
Michael Quail is the best teacher I have ever had. He has spent countless zoom calls with me making sure I understand the material. Calc 2 is one of the hardest math classes and he will do anything to help you succeed, you can genuinely tell he cares about you and does not mind helping. He is a fair grader and you have 2 attempts on the quizzes.
I took Prof Q's class over the summer and I also had an internship at the same time. He did a great job of making sure that we understood everything and even adjusted the schedule of the course in order to ensure that all of us were able to complete our work. He was very helpful. I met with him over video chat & he helped me understand so much.
This Professor changed my life. He is the most caring teacher I have ever met. If you want to do well, professor Quail can help you make that happen. The work in his class is not excessive, and tests problems are very similar. If you need help, do not feel shy to ask questions. Professor quail truly cares.
Very organized course. Professor wants to help you succeed!
Professor Q was awesome! He was always willing to help me with any difficulties I was having. He was very organized, and very prepared. My class was fully so we had two web assign assignments each week and a test at the end of every unit. The web assign is a lot of work, but it is not difficult at all and you get multiple attempts on each question.
Mr. Quail was an amazing teacher, I took this class online and he gave us just enough work to make sure we understood the material whilst teaching it to ourselves. He was very understanding and helpful. As long as you actually do the work you are guaranteed a great grade. I totally recommend anyone who's taking this course to take it with him.
He's a really caring teacher and wants you to succeed. His lectures are nice because the way he has them set up, you can replay one section over again. BUT he will set up the integral and then say something like "by trig sub I got the answer 3" Dude I need the rest of the owl. I took calc 2 a year and a half ago. I need to see the integral.
Professor Quail has given me such a great experience within a math class, which is one of my least favorite subjects. He is always available to either email or join a zoom meeting. He will go over problems step by step and encourages you to reach out and ask questions if you find you're struggling with the material
Prof. Quail emphasises on learning the material more than anything else, and he will put a huge effort to ensure whether everyone understands the lecture (he also makes his office hours extremely flexible and easy-access). So, if you're serious on learning Calculus, Prof. Quail's dedication to his class sets him far apart from other lecturers.
Mr Quail is a great professor! I took his online class and definitely one of the best he has mini videos to explain concepts then the usual weekly homework (written assignments and webassign) only 2 test midterm and final. Definitely recommend:)
This guy expects you to understand the textbook and will not explain questions you got wrong if the textbook isn't enough for you.
Prof. Quail's class structure encourages you to learn and thoroughly understand the material. He gives written assignments with video links where he solves the problem and explains the answer, which are great for when you come across challenging problems. Sadly, the midterm and the final are each 30% of your grade, and exams are on Saturdays.
Professor Quail is definitely one of the best professors Ive had. Hes always willing to make extra time to meet with students if they cant come to office hours, and he responds to emails insanely fast. Deadlines arent super strict either; if you need an extension, just ask, hell most likely grant it. His overall kindness makes a difference
A wonderful teacher! Very caring and reasonable. A reasonable grader and flexible on due dates so you can focus on learning. I was coming back into math after many years of no math classes and he made it a great experience. He never made me feel dumb, he was always just helpful and kind.
He is quick in lectures. Talks as if you already know the material. But he will meet outside class and office hours, gives extra credit, and really seems to care that he is doing a good job teaching.
Professor Quail is my all-time favorite math teacher because he somehow made Calc 3 easy. Lectures are quick, all work is focused on making sure you know both HOW and WHY the correct answer is correct, and he encourages students to participate with extra credit. The midterm and final make up a LARGE portion of your grade (70% total), so be aware.
Wonderful professor. I ended up failing this course due to being overwhelmed with my others, but if I hadn't been, I would've done amazing. He's great, always available, and has good explanations. He also does his best to show his students the real-life applications of the work being done.
He is very kind, funny, and willing to help. I spammed him with many emailed questions and he always replied in a timely manner and helped out. I would recommend Prof Q.
Professor Quail is so kind. He is willing to help anytime and really cares about teaching. There are not enough amazing things I could say about this teacher, he is the best!!
He's one of the most kind hearted teacher I've ever met. so caring and considerate and super helpful with any questions at all times. he explains his lectures very well and is super clear with instructions. super flexible with his students too.
Took the 12 week online summer class. Lots of homework, but it was spaced out enough that it wasn't overwhelming. Exams are difficult an long. Prof provides access to lots of other resources but told us minutes before the final exam that he won't give full credit for any work that doesn't match his teaching, so what's the point in providing them?
Throughout the semester, I made good progress and understood the topics well. However, during the final exam, the professor said our solutions should strictly match his methods. He said if we use any other method, he will take 2x points off. This is why I chose not to answer several questions to avoid the risk of losing points.
Great professor, be sure to make time outside of class to meet with him and understand what you aren't really able to grasp. He will help you if you try.
Work some weeks can be excessive with some assignments hardly matching the content taught that week. He provided virtually no feedback on assignments unless you sought office hours where he was flexible in meeting students. But you receive virtually zero feedback otherwise which is incredibly frustrating when he doesn't return things like midterms.
Very flexible to meet outside class when struggling. He is very understanding when needing an extension and some extra help. Attend office hours so he has a name to a face. Will be taking again for calculus 3. Midterm and final online were more difficult than the homework given in class and the systems used were not good for administering tests.
Entirely online Calc 3: videos are recorded by Prof. Quail himself, lecture notes detail exactly how to solve the questions that show up on written assignments & the midterm/final, exams for all of his courses are open notes (as long as they're on physical paper), and he is a very caring and genuine guy.
Heavy workload. He is nice professor
Made Calculus 3 seem not that difficult - great videos and explanations. Lots of homework, but he was always there to help. Midterm and final were open note (huge help).
Super nice and caring prof. ~4 weekly assignments graded very easily, good notes/videos, and open note exams. Easy A if you do the work!
Professor Quail is very understanding. I had a personal issue that prevented me from preparing for the finals. Professor Quail was willing to adjust the testing for me.
Okay professor
Lots of Homework
Heavy workload and not tech-savvy
He is a very genuine professor who really wants his students to succeed.
