Literally the best professor and educator I have EVER had. I hope he knows how amazing he is. You can tell he LOVES astronomy and is so interesting to listen to. I'm a social science major and yet I look forward to this class each week. Expect assigned readings and lecture polls. Overall this class is amazing!!!!!!

BEST PROF EVER! Made me so happy about taking an Astronomy course and single-handedly sparked my passion for physics and astronomy :) If you are at UofT, you NEED to take astronomy courses with this guy. He is so nice and the course content is so interesting. Kinda sad AST201 is coming to an end. You can easily tell his passion for teaching!

Professor Reid is the best professor I've ever met in UofT. His lectures are super interesting and informative. Also, as a Maths student, this course is easy and kind of a relief from other courses. NO midterms or Finals!!! But attendance is important.

Life sci student here. Taking his AST251 class honestly changed my life. I always enjoyed astronomy as a general topic but I gained true appreciation for it in this class. I even almost switched my program. I wouldn't recommend it to just anyone, but if you have ANY interest in astronomy, TAKE HIS CLASS!!! It's my highest grade in undergrad.

Great Prof with engaging lectures that balance relevant course information with real-world relevant events/topics. Assignments are clearly explained and all resources can be found in the slides. Easy to reach outside of class and even puts together discussion posts for students to ask questions ab assignments in real time.

Had him for both AST101 and AST201. Enjoyable course to take, and a very good prof. Stuff are also pretty easy. I would strongly recommend.

Took AST101 and 201 last year, super amazing prof and one of my favourites in my undergrad so far. Was super passionate & enthusiastic and explained everything clearly. If I were to take these courses again, I would sit in the front just so I could participate more. I have another course with him next year and can't wait.

Dr. Reid was great! AST199's supposed to be a science class for non-STEM students, and it lived up to that pretty fairly. This class is research-heavy with assignments every week and an original research project, so get ready. Dr. Reid grades fairly, but I had some issues with TA gradings. Lastly, remember you cannot CR/NCR this class.

Dr Reid is a great caring professor exactly the type of professor you would want for a first year seminar! The class is a lot of work but not difficult work. He is a fair grader while the TA can grade a little bit more harshly for small details. Overall, great class for non-stem students.

I didn't have a good experience in his class because he thinks that he is a Rockstar like Drake but his teaching doesn't match up to the kind of ego he has

Prof Reid's AST251 is a great astronomy course, even for non-science students. Lectures are engaging, and the workload is manageable. I found unstuck study helpful for exam prep alongside the textbook.

He gives banger lectures but his assignments have VAGUE instructions and requires CONSIDERABLE amount of research outside of course content. Also, if you want to take this course because you're interested in aliens (fermi paradox, dark forest theory etc.) like me, spoiler alert: they are only discussed in the last 2 lectures.

I found the structure of AST251 frustrating, particularly the 3 projects. Each project was worth 24% of the final grade but graded out of just 12 points, leaving little room for error. The instructions were often vague, the workload was time-consuming, and much of the research felt unnecessary. A midterm and final exam format would've been better.
