COOL TEACHER, VERY ENERGETIC!
Doesn't start out with the basics and then work up from there. Felt like I was just thrown in the deep end and never given the basics on how to swim. Doesn't follow textbook - Chapter 16 then back to 8,9,10. He really knows the subject but can't bring it down to easy to grasp level. But very friendly and willing to try and help.
Made a hard subject very easy.
Unclear and unorganized.
GREAT! shows lots of videos, open book/notes and partner quizzes, gives exam essay ?s ahead of time, big variety of pts in gradebook (9 quizzes, 3 exams, final, small paper, group project) THIS IS NOT A SLACK OFF CLASS! It's not extremely difficult IF you pay attention, come to most classes, and study the material. Good teaching style
Great teacher..!!! Very helpful!!! Go to his office hours if you get lost he will make sure you are on track!!! Very understanding and confident in his students with their success!!!! get to know him!!!!
Awesome!! Do everything you can to get Dr. Mike for a teacher - he is so dedicated to making sure his students succeed. He's always available for help and he seems to really love his job!! It's a hard class - no slacking - but if you're engaged, you will do well.
More concerned about winning spelling bees than teaching anatomy.A real clown and trickster. Grades unfairly.Plays trivial pursuit on tests by asking insignificant, stupid questions.Favors students who kiss butt. Unprepared and disorganized. DO NOT take him nor give him a good evaluation.

Very hard labs, tests are pretty good. but you have to study hard, don't slack off.Hard class but if you are interested you can get lots out of it
very interesting teacher. If you seek organization, structure, and clarity... go elsewhere. But if you don't mind a very nice instructor whose extremely knowledgeable and has a unique way of teaching, you might learn more with Reutter. Although he is hard, you learn more.
He is very unorganized and doesn't really know what is going on most of the time. His lectures are the videos that he shows to class which are horrible because he goes through them so quickly and doesn't clarify things well. If you have questions in lab or go to his office, he would just tell you to read the book. The class would be fun if he would
This professor is a nice guy, BUT he can't teach biology. It's my second time taking it and I still couldnt get it. i studied hours on end for his exams and i still couldnt pass. his lectures are the videos like the others have said and just put you to sleep. the powerpoint lecture notes as he started off were good but they just got worse over time
Caution! This class is tough! If you like a very structured lecture, then Dr. Mike is not for you. He gives alot of quizzes and work and grades sharply. He is very intelligent but does not give you many tools and the book does not help! He did give a great final and curved generously in the end after a stressful semester of panic.
Reutter is a nice person, He just happens to be a very poor teacher. Lectures are worthless, disorganized and irrelevant. Exams are easy but poorly worded. I went to about 40% of the lectures and labs, still got an A, but it was all book study. Be ready to get very friendly with your book or just take Carlson.
This guy SUCKS. He is so unreasonable with tests and grading and cannot adapt or relate to students in any way whatsoever. I had to drop the class becasue I did so bad on the BS tests. He urges you to study one section and covers it in class and then the test will be on some totally different unrelated questions.
great guy, not the greatest teacher. i failed my first time taking it and have to retake the class- this is a super hard subject over all however - be expected to eat sleep and breath anatomy
Probably one of the least organized professors I have taken. Nice guy, not so much a great professor. He is all over the place in lecture...chapter 12 then 2 then something I have never heard of and so on.. If you want to pay for a class and teach it all to yourself take him otherwise I would suggest Adams.
Try not to take class with him.
Mr. Reutter is one of the most frustrating teachers I've had. He is not at all helpful with one on one questions and he gets flustered/ angry when he thinks he's being challenged in ANY sense. His grading is unfair and based more on what he's feeling at the time than on work put in or meeting guidelines.
I went into the class excited about learning but soon I was leaving each class frustrated and angry. He had us creating the test/quiz questions and spent huge amounts of class time having us work with "our partner". I finally dropped the class and signed up for the next semester with a different professor. It was a waste of my money.
Anatomy and Physiology at Normandale: Dr. Reutter is a great teacher. He is disorganized, but less so than a LOT of prof at places like the U of M. These classes are HARD so be prepared. It's not high school; you need prior college biology experience and MUST study your ass off. At the U, Anatomy is a Junior level course and it's just as hard here.
Very Smart, too smart. He can not teach a class on a beginner level, more like he is talking to bunch of doctors, lectures are worthless. Has nothing to do with what your studying. Avoid if possible.
Seems more interested in himself and showing everyone how smart he is rather than teaching students. Seemed nice but not worth it!!! as lectures were disjointed- waste of time. Seems to be out of touch with anything except his world of science so doesn't relate to students. Ego larger than teaching ability.
Was always an A student prior, studied many hours per week but was never enough. Cares more about being tricky.. no middle ground on tests, either stupid general quest.'s or completely obscure specific questions. Doesn't seem to care if you get the big picture, wants you to learn it his way, his view. Seems to think world revolves around his class
What a relief to know it's not just me having difficulty with this teacher. My GPA is (or WAS before this class) 3.7. How could I have such a hard time with a subject I love? I am a nurse after all. No matter how much work or time my group put into lab reports, we always got very low grades. I am so frustrated not knowing what Reutter expects.
I wouldnt advice anyone for this teacher, he might be good at research but not on teaching. He is not clear to student, his exames are very confusing and hard.
This guy has NO business teaching.
Dr. Reutter is not a good teacher. His lectures are all over the place and his lecture notes he gives out for class are very hard to follow. He does not explain things well and his exams are very difficult. He belongs in the lab and not in the classroom.
i think dr. mike is a very nice person, i agree his tests are hard and confusing but in lab he is extremely helpful
3 exams/multiple choice/fill-in-the-blank/true-false/short answer! study for the tests!!8 open book group quizzes, drops 3! makes you do a stupid project w/your group! he's a nice guy but a hard teacher. easy if you read and study!!
This was a pretty enjoyable class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it helps. A large part of the grade is OPEN-BOOK GROUP quizzes! Make sure you get a good group, and it's a slam dunk. I was worried going into this class, as Biology is not my forte, but I learned a ton and got an A. Take it.
He was a wonderful professor. I was worried because of all the negative comments about him on here, but he was so helpful when I went in all the time to ask questions. He obviously absolutely loves what he does. It is VERY important to go in and ask him questions when you are confused. I had to work hard but the class was so interesting and great!!
Very Bad explainator. Make his test very difficult. He should be a research person instead of a teacher.
I had read the comments about his teaching style and it was scary but decided to try anyway and make my own opinion. well, sorry to say, they were accurate and wish I had taken the class with a different instructor. Try Deb Carlson and the proof is that her classes are always filled up.
Very nice guy,too smart to be teaching an 1100 level course. He's a scientist at heart and belongs with other scientists not college students. Specifics are crucial for Reutter and tests reflect it. Spends a lot of time with favorite students. You will read text until your eyes bleed in this course! Had 4.0 GPA for 4 semesters until Reutters class.
Wonderful instructor. Very patient in explaining/clarifying. Approaches class-time/lecture as supplementary to the work done in lab or on your own with the text. Loves science, sharing information.
Dr. Mike is great. He seems to get a bad rap on here, but he is so helpful. He is very passionate about what he does, he explains things clearly, and is so willing to help answer your questions. Anatomy is not a cake course, you need to put in your study time and be responsible for learning. I would highly recommend him.
This instructor knew the material & was available for help he didn't add value to the course. We were constantly behind in lecture do to an overwhelming amount of material. As opposed to educating he most often showed DVD's to cover material in lecture. We barely touched on subjects toward the end. Overall, students are unprepared to move forward.
Dr. Mike is VERY nice. He's willing to help you when you make the effort to ask and he's pretty flexible. You don't get a lot of extra credit opportunites and he's a real stickler on spelling...but he'll give points back on a test if you have a GOOD case. Read the text and study a ton, and you'll do fine.
He is the worst one out there...
After two weeks of not understanding what he was talking about in lecture, and the book did not help much, I dropped the class. I hope I can get in with Carlson next semester since I had her for anatomy. I would not recommend Reutter for anyone.
I really liked this professor. ALWAYS smiling. His energy and excitment about the class is contagious. Willing to answer any questions and is VERY helpful- eager to help in any way he can. Print off the outlines and attend his lectures-- he translates the book...
Do Not Take His Class...He does not know how to explain the material..Over 70% of the class dropped out..But in general he is nice person and constantly smiling..He is very helpful in lab, but not in class...He uses videos and pictures to teach the material
I'm a straight A student and I had to withdraw from his class. He has no communication skills while trying to teach people who are trying to learn for the first time. Impossible. Avoid or fail.
Reutter is very specific and his tests will reflect that. If you don't know the material inside/out & just know the basics..you will not do well. His lectures are all over the place and don't follow his outline..plus whatever is on his outline is just a taste of what he expects you to know for the exams..basically..memorize your text book to pass!
Reutter is a scientist and I think sometimes he thinks his students are too. He assumes you know more than you do so DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS! If you don't you'll fail for sure. As long as you focus, take LOTS of notes, and READ THE TEXT you'll do fine in the class. You just can't slack even a tiny bit in his class.
As much as I wanted to like this course and Mike, it was very difficult to do so due to the lack of direction provided in this course. Like the previous person said, be ready to memorize your textbook. That is the only way to do well in his class. Class can be hard to follow.
Believe it or not, we are now facing to the 3d week of Anatomy class and we have it 3 times a week and he DID NOT provide any normal lecture yet! All our lectures somithing like games in the kinder garden, he asks us questions "Tell me what is the...?" I am fine with it but...before of asking question you have to provide at least some information!
May be he is smart&nice instructor, may be he knows his stuff but he does not know how to teach and shear his information. Next week we have an exam I don't think I'm ready for it, his lectures are unhelpful, confusing. Actually, there is not such a thing as lecture, he ask us questions and he really thinks that we have to know the answer. AVOID!!!
Difficult class, but study hard and an A is possible.Very anal about lab write ups but his lectures are interesting. I recorded his lectures and ended up with A in the class.
Most of the class students are almost drop/withdrwal because he is toughest. It is almost incomprehensible lecture. Particularly, he has an old teaching style because he does not even has power point.
Even though he seems to be nice, BUT ..... he does not care about his students and their understanding of material. The lectures are helpless, be ready to study by your own
he will fail you, he does not care about the needy. his class is some of the hardest that i've seen avoid at all cost. i will be studying at another school than transfer there for my program to avoid taking his class or any bio related class at normandale.. stupid spelling count, C'mon we are students not your lab partner, 8 chapter test c'mon
Are you looking for an anatomy or physiology teacher? Do not choose him!!! Trust me!!! you better wait another semestr till Carlson or Bartel would be available. His test seems to be not hard, but some questions are just stupid. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!! He does not care about his students, does not care about teaching at all!
Try to avoid this teacher, I did not believe all this warnings and thought I will be fine, well if I could go back 4 mounts ago I would never take this class with him. I am doing ok in this class, the only thing I lost all my previous interest due to this teacher, he does not care about students.
This instructor destroys all motivation and is a complete downer. Avoid this instructor at all costs. He does not know how to convey information or deal with people. I honestly don't know why he is in this profession-he(and all the students)would be be better off if he worked in a lab somewhere.
Imcomprehensible,
I don't know why NCC keeps him as a teacher? Such instructors bring college's rating down He is one of worst ever professor. He does not have any teaching skills and at least 50% of the time he uses video to teach! I paid my money not to learn from video! do not recommend! avoid!
He is a worst EVER prof. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Reutter does not know what a teaching is. I hated his video. Try to avoid.
I would not advise Reutter anyone, he does not explain the material well, often time does not answer for a student's question, he will fail you. do not take
Don't waste your time and $$$, This is the worse professor I've ever had in my life. His teaching is horrible and he doesn't explain ANYTHING!
Just waste time and money
Taking his class is just about wasting your time and money
Nothing good to say about this professor. I think he should not be in the teaching, I had a feeling that Reutter hates his students with smiling face. Such a false person!
I dropped class this week because of teacher. He has no sense of teachhing business. Makes simple stuff uncomprehensive. Reutter is the worst teacher at NCC.
I had to drop this class this week because of teacher. He has no sense of teachhing business. Makes simple stuff uncomprehensive. Reutter is the worst teacher at NCC.
Yeah...I agree with all this comments about Reutter, he is the worsest ever teacher! Today is my last day of the class I am sooo happy that class over! i would never take this teacher again, I would NOT recommend to take Reutter's class.
Can't believe all the haters posting garbage here. If you actually need to learn how the body works, or may apply this info to a future career, Dr Reutter is a great prof. The class is not easy, and isn't for anyone looking for an easy A. If you are serious about learning, it isn't that hard.
Uh.. My second time taking Physiology with Dr. Mike. Let's hope I get at least a C. He confuses the stuff out of me and talks wayyy too fast, and the worst part.. Doesn't stop to explain what he had just said. But, on a lighter note, if you read the text, pay attention and take lots of notes, you should be okay.. He is a friendly guy.
If you are looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you. Dr. Reutter is a good professor however to get a good grade in his class, you have to work extremely hard. Be prepare to spend alot of time outside of class on the material.
Dr. Mike is a good teacher. He lectures well enough that I read MAYBE 15 pages out of my book and the rest was all from his lecturing. If you don't put the time and effort into learning, especially a biology class, you won't do well regardless of the teacher. If you are looking for an easy A, take a communications class!
I just finished taking Professor Reutter's summer physiology class. It was a four week semester loaded course. You have to put the work in to earn a good grade. Definitely no slacking off. Pay attention to all the details he specifies in lecture. He is very open to answering questions...and if it doesn't make sense the first time, ask again!
Dr. Mike is a great teacher. You will learn alot from him and perhaps become more inspired regarding physiology. He welcomes questions and is always pleasant. Great teacher!
after reading what everyone has said, i do agree. i will say, it is nearly impossible to get an A in his class, but small possibility. u focus on certain areas to study for on the exam because he puts an emphasis on it,but turns out to not be on the exam.he seems like a nice guy and wants to help u understand, but his teaching style is down the drai
the WORST ever teacher!!! do not take avoid! you won't learn from him anything!!! but you will spoil your GPA!
I always liked science and biology specially.I had 4 different biology classes in the prior to physiology, I never such unenjoyble class. Yes,I got a good grade, but it is because of my prior knowledge and a hard work. over all Reutter has a poor teaching tecnique and hard time to explain a simple things. I would not recommend to take him.
Mike is not the best instructor I had, he has problems with delivering the material, i guess that is why he uses a lot of video information. So, he is ok, however I would not recomend him
Dr. Mike is not the easiest instructor on campus, but he is one of the most helpful. Those that complain on this site probably don't spend much time studying and get angry when the have poor exam results. Your lack of studying is not Reutter's fault. He gives us the resources we need for success. Great instructor, good person, loves questions.
Good instructor
Worst ever instructor!!!
Mike seems to be a nice person, BUT he is a very poor teacher. Lectures are worthless, very disorganized and irrelevant. Exams are easy but poorly worded.
Absolutely nothing special, Reutter is kinda not really interested in his subject and students. Does not have deep enough knowledge to teach. I would not take his class again.
I didn't really like him at first but he kinda grew on me. It's not that bad once you get used to the way he teaches and he's always willing to help you outside of class. His tests aren't too hard which is something you can't say of the other biology teachers but he's also a lot of fun.
Easy, but soooo boring. No power point lecture, tons of video, lectures structured weak. I learn more from the book than from his lectures. I don't think that recommend him
Reutter is a very nice guy but not an easy course for anyone that is not right out of another Bio class. Tests are easier than other Biology teachers, and Reutter offers study guides for the tests. I would not recommend this class for students who have not taken a biology class in a while. Approx 30%+ dropped class during semester.
Horrible teacher. Do not take...he didn't care about the students at all.
Bad, just plain bad teacher. He can't explain basic things, when you ask him questions he only confuses you more. I think he his knowledge is very superfacial, also he is not a good teacher
He looks like a nice person but he is not. He definitely is a horrible teacher. He is not helpful and he never cares about you and how you doing. grads really hard and has no reason for giving you an F in an assignment. do not take any classes with him.!
I received an A in his class but would strongly recommend taking a different teacher. Reutter is very narrow minded and believes there is only one right way to do almost everything. He doesn't seem to care about student's success and has made some of my bright classmates feel dumb or hopeless. He is an example why tenure should be abolished...
I agree with all comments. Reutter doesn't have a talent to explain the material, often can't answer the question and gives a very broad and vague answer. His grating is so bad, however, at the end you won't learn much from him and will have some sort of disappontment. If you really care about your learnig go with Jurney or Bartel. They're the best
Prior to Reutter's class I had Carlson and Jurney. I missed them soooo much. Even though Reutter is way easier than Jurney, there is question that Jurney and Carlson are the best. I have no words for Reutter's class. He's not sure, he's confusing, disorganized teacher. Tests're ok, there would be some stupid ???,he thinks that this is funny:(
He was confusing at times. Sometimes disorganized. Not the worst teacher in the world but not the best. He is a nice guy, will help you out if you ask.
Dr. Ruetter is wonderful. He is friendly, available, involved, knowledgeable and competent. He always has time for his students and he is enthusiastic about the material.
Absolutely the hardest teacher I've ever had! Tests are almost impossible because they cover every insignificant detail in the text. Reutter is confusing and he only teaches with powerpoints. AVOID if you can, otherwise you better be prepared for extreme studying 24/7 just to pass this class!
Mr. Reutter is a nice guy! I had Carlson before him so his style seemed a little disorganized to me. Tests can be a little challenging and hes not the fastest grader. Write down everything he says!! I will end up with a B in the class.. and I think it reflects the effort I put in.
The class is tough. Dr. Reutter presents material so that it makes you think about the concepts in a cummulative manner. He says from the beginning that all tests are accumulative. Retaining all the info is not easy, so stick to the animations he posts and attend lecture and labs. If the A&P classes were so easy, everyone would sign up. Good luck!
Hardest class EVER. Fabulous prof. He'll stick with you through the end of the earth, but be willing to work your behind off!
not sure why people keep sayning that this class hard. it is the easiest one, but the worst either. very self-teaching course, presense of Reutter in class is purposeless, he is the one who makes this class worse. Regret that took him and not Jurney, it could have been much more interesting
GREAT professor - definitely should attend all classes, but extremely helpful so ask for help if you need it. Mike is very passionate about what he teaches and his students as well - possibly my favorite professor ever!!!
Worst teacher ever! GPA killer. He seems to enjoy overloading you with information to make a hard topic impossible. The subjective parts of his tests allows him the freedom to give you any grade he wants to, which he usually uses to lower your grade. He will never tell you the class average. Definately do not take him!!!
Hard class--but it's hard stuff! I thought he was a great teacher, he just makes you work hard and you need to know your stuff. I read the textbook A LOT. Take lots of notes in class. He is very fair when it comes to asking him questions about things you may have gotten wrong on a test. If you're a hard worker, an A is possible.
He's the worst teacher i have ever came across!! not very helpful or clear.he doesn't cover anything in class, all he talks about is some stupid researches and how his life is going.he will never give out notes or helpful study guides. the way he grades is just simply awful.never taking his class again!! GPA destroyer and he doesn't care
Very knowledgeable. Can be helpful, but usually isn't. Often rude. Lectures generally are good. Multiple choice exams are straight forward. Essay questions lack context and are vague. Open notes won't help you because with no context you won't know what specifically to write about. Grading is subjective. I recommend taking Physiology at Henn. Tech.
This is a hard class for sure, but if you study hard and show up to class, then it is very possible to get an A. I would recommend this class for sure.
Decent teacher, but not easy. Puts in effort to his lectures. Pay attention, show up on time, take notes, and do the readings. Not an easy class. Makes an effort to makes class fun sometimes. Can be unforgiving and hard to work with. Pay attention to the things he draws on board in class. Can be very particular on grading.
He knows the material very well, that being said, I don't think he teaches very well. I would read the chapter and kind of understand what I'd read then go to class and leave even more confused. He is a nice guy in person, the material is interesting but I don't believe he teaches to help you pass.
While Dr. Reutter is not easy, if you make an effort to meet with him he will work with you to help you understand what you can do better. Her really wants to help students, but you have to put the time in. I don't find this unfair, you have to want it for him to want to help you!
Dr. Mike is a great instructor! Sometimes his lectures are a little confusing, but if you do the reading that he suggests on the study guides before lecture, you won't have a problem. Take notes as he goes, as you start to understand the topic, the notes are very helpful for studying for the exams. He's always eager to help!
I took Human Anatomy with this instructor in the summer. I would not recommend taking Human Anatomy in the summer. He is a great instructor and is willing to work with you to raise your grade. This is a VERY difficult class. You must attend every class to succeed. I attended every class and still did not succeed due to taking it in the summer.
Excellent teacher overall. Don't listen to the negative comments. From what I heard about the other anatomy teachers, he is a breeze! Some extra credit throughout the semester, and for this class, every point counts. This is a very tough class so be prepared to work your ass off. Class is equivalent to 2-3 classes, so don't overload coursework

Human Anatomy is a hard class no matter where you take it. He is one of my favorite professors I have ever had. He was always willing to sit down and explain things to me, and he was always so welcoming with questions. He actually explains things rather than refers to the book. His class is hard and you really have to work for it.
This class is a tough class, but Dr. Reutter is very approachable. He is always willing to put in his own time to help anyone who asks. He wants you to succeed. The tests are tough and you have to read the chapters and do his study guides in order to do well. I would recommend this class with him. He is an amazing professor.
Very nice and helpful professor but his class is very much self-directed. The class lacks structure and you are expected to research the material and learn it on your own, although he will always answer questions. If you do not do well in a self-directed class, do not take him. You will learn the most from writing up lab reports. Don't miss lecture
This was my fifth science class, and the one I was most looking foreword to. Sadly, it ended up being the one I least enjoyed. I'm not going to say things like he's a GPA killer or he's mean, unfortunately he is just not a good teacher. The most disorganized lectures I have ever taken part in, and an very picky grader. Take another professor.
Dr. Reutter's lectures were incredibly disorganized and at times extremely boring. He would waste up to a half hour of class time regularly to hand back papers. Study guides were somewhat helpful but they were also very vague. Reading assignments take hours upon hours. He is very picky on lab reports. A very stressful course.
The worst professor I have ever come across. Clearly GPA killer , very stubborn and picky on answers and language only he wants to see. Not at all helpful. It was as good as studying by yourself. Avoid this professor by all means if possible.
Mike is a super nice guy... But when it comes to his teaching most unorganized teaching style I've ever had! His class was so hard because I could never figure out what was going on. You have to see him in person everytime to retain something. Never felt prepared for his tests either his questions were also very confusing and hard to understand.
Lectures were disorganized and all over the place. His teaching style lacks structure. I never felt confident going into his tests because he was not clear about what information would be on them. He is very nice and willing to help outside of the classroom, however, if I were to take it again, I would take it with someone else.
This is my second semester with Mike, and he's awesome!! You definitely need to read the book to do well, but he's always willing to answer questions (as long as they're not dumb). Try to be in lab while he's there if you have the option it's super helpful!!
Overall the class is pretty easy if you put in the work, study, read your book and ask questions when needed. He is one of the most helpful teachers if you just apply yourself and really try to learn and understand the material. Never had such a great teacher and his lectures are not confusing not sure where other people are getting lost.
I went to office hours once and it was to fix an online quiz that was messed up and ask some questions about it. He had to fix a couple questions, but I don't think he ever fixed my grade or gave me extra credit for catching the mess-ups. The class went really fast.
Although I did get an A in this class, I learned very little from the instructor himself. Lab is an open lab and unless you aren't taking any classes that start after his, it is really difficult to find him to ask questions. I studied off of online sources like quizlet and google. Notes were barely ever picked up except for lab tests.
He is a very disorganized professor when it comes to lecture. He has study guides that don't really help and you have to rely on the book when it comes to studying or reading the chapters. Very tough grader. I wouldn't take Physiology with this professor unless you are a good a great reader and very self-motivating. Not availabl to talk much either
You can tell that he loves what he does and is passionate about biology. Is there to help in the lab and outside of class. He's a tough grader because he wants you to be specific. He makes learning fun with videos and jokes.
He doesn't teach at all. If you don't show up to lecture you won't miss anything. He also doesn't update D2L so you won't find out about things until they're due, maybe the day before. You need to read, but not everything he tests on is covered in the book, (or in lecture). He's very unclear and contradicts himself. Take Barni instead, he teaches!!
Disorganized lectures. Wastes 30 minutes of lecture on random and very strange YouTube videos that are not relevant. Lecture is very general, while tests are in depth. If you don't read the book, you won't make it; this is due to wasted lecture time. If you do read the book, don't depend on lecture for full understanding, there's no teaching there.
You will learn absolutely nothing from coming to lecture, you're better off teaching yourself! The exams have the most random questions, none of them coming from the lecture. He is difficult to understand what he is teaching because it is worded so scientifically.
This class is super hard. I reccomend recording his lectures and listening to them over and over and over again. Nothing is a surprise on the exam he talks about it in class, so might as well really listen to those lectures. I semi used the book for notes, just for some clarification, but the book goes into depth a lot more than he does.
I took his physiology class and he was the worst professor i have ever had. He is a really smart guy, he just doesnt know how to teach the material. I am barely passing the class with a C and i usually do very well in science classes. I walked out of class everyday confused and never had any idea what was going on. Reading the book is a must.
You have to teach yourself- so get ready to be BFFs with your textbook. I have a strong biology background and I will be lucky to get a low B. The lab practicals are ridiculously difficult- I attended every lab, asked questions, knew the material and did poorly on both practicals. He is a very nice guy but an awful teacher.
Mike is a nice and goofy guy but his lectures will put you to sleep. Half of the class only came for exams. You will learn everything on your own from the book. Barely any points in the gradebook so make sure you do EVERYTHING because it can affect your grade later on.
Reutter is such a difficult teacher if you think that you're good at biology think again. He is very passive aggressive and will not help you in the class. He wastes a bunch of time in lecture and he is very poor at explaining. Over half of the class dropped and I wish I did too. Be scared of practicals there is no way to prepare for them.
He's such an amazing and electric person. His smile is contagious and he's more than willing to help you anytime. He does expect you to be on your game! Come prepared to learn a lot in class. I made outlines before lecture so I could keep up with him.
Anatomy is already hard as it is but he makes it a little easier. You cant expect to just show up to class and pass the tests. You have to read before the class lecture to know what we're talking about, you need to go to the lab as much as possible because you will not pass the class with bad lab practical scores. its hard and you have to work for it.
If you expect to show up to lecture, pay attention, take great notes, study outside of class, and do reasonably well on exams, think again. He spends 80% of lecture quizzing students on material he hasn't covered yet just to "see where students are" and literally does not teach the material. This is a totally self-taught course. Take another prof.
First, anatomy is THE most overwhelming course I have ever taken. It's tough. Make sure you have LOTS of time to dedicate to studying and spending time in the lab. Regarding Dr. Reutter, you are not likely to find a guy who cares more about your success or who LOVES anatomy more than him. He is very available and will help get you through it.
There is no way you can take anatomy with more than two other classes if you want an A. You need to read the material before you come to class, you have to do everything the teacher tells you, like read the chapter summaries. Pretty much for studying every day to memorize things. Hard class, but interesting! You really have to work for it.
Accessible and enthusiastic. Dr. Reutter really knows his stuff and is passionate about the subject. His lectures do tend to go off topic from time to time, but as long as you work hard (you will work HARD), read the material, and fill out chapter outlines thoroughly, you should do fine. Tests are weighted heavily, but D2L quizzes are available.
Very boring lectures. Exams are very hard with zero to no content from what he teaches in class. Talks in a very low voice in class, better sit closer or just record him. Be ready to study on your own. most students just show up during lab and tests.
I CAN'T BELIEVE HE HAS SUCH A LOW RATING, HE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PROFESSORS! He is a tough grader and has high standards for his students, but if you ever need help, he will answer any questions in his office or in lab. But definitely pay attention, take notes, and read.
Reutter is one of the sweetest professors Ive ever had. He gets distracted sometimes during lecture, but in lab or one on one, he is insanely helpful. Hes very willing to spend the time to make sure students can fully understand what hes talking about. He gives out study guides toomake sure you know the learning outcomes of the chapters.
Grade based on tests only. No assignments, supplementary study material, or tutoring available. Most students that made it through the course got Cs. The 2 people that had A's had copies of tests from previous semester to study from. This course is used to weed out nursing program applicants. Teacher's advice was to start a study group.
I absolutely love him as a person such a sweet dorky guy BUTTTTTTTTTT his class is extremely hard because he doesnt know how to teach. He will ask a question in front of the entire class and just because one person out of the entire lecture answers it he just assumes we all know it. Read the book, lecture is not helpful
Holds you accountable to material in book, lecture and lab. Follow along in lectures, do suggested prep work for class, and visit him in office hours. He cares about your success and comprehension IF you do. One of my favorite teachers and one of the hardest classes I have taken.
Dr. Reutter is an amazing professor! Very knowledgable in the content and connects topics to real life. Use the study guides, go to class, READ the chapters, do the quizzes and ask questions. He goes over everything you need to know for exams so pay attention. You can't expect to do well in this class if you don't put in the time.
comes off as a nice guy and will answer all questions you have. class is structured more as a discussion so be prepared to teach yourself a majority of the information. most students are not looking for a discussion mediator. if it takes you a bit to grasp concepts in lab, too bad! if you get poor grades in 3 labs you fail.
at first this teacher may seem nice and all but once class begins this guy is one of the worst teachers ever. i really regret taking this guy....
very disorganized. he focus on irrelevant things. teaches on the surface and bring deep exams. very bad in delivering lectures you only get more confused. if you are not a science student and it is your first time please stay away from his class.
Dr. Reuter is extremely nice, extremely friendly and approachable, but unfortunately the classes did not seem worth it. Anatomy is ALL memorization. Use the study guides he gives as a guide for reading the chapters, and you don't need to go to lecture. Make flashcards on quizlet for the lab exams!! tests are easy if you read the book.
He explains the subject very well and is easy to understand. if you put in good effort youll get great results
The class itself was pretty difficult but that's to be expected for any Anatomy class you take. I liked Dr. Reutter's style of lecture. I also appreciated that he would find new articles or videos that pertained to what we were studying in class, it was cool to see what we were learning being applied in real world. Great teacher that cares.
This is DEFINITELY a self-taught class. We leave lecture so confused. Reading the book is CRUCIAL to your understanding because his lecture is so disorganized. There is a study guide but even that's not very helpful. He's a very harsh grader so watch out with your lab assignments. I would not recommend this professor for this class at all.
Reutter is a nice guy, but don't let that fool you. He's a tough grader! You will have group lab assignments where you write papers. He will pick those papers apart looking for any little item missed or added that he doesn't like, and dock points. Same thing goes for exams in the essay questions. I will never take this professor again!
Dr. Reutter is a really nice guy, and an excellent professor for anatomy. This is a tough course no matter who you take it with, so get ready to read A LOT. You'll have four lab exams and four lecture exams (including a final), about 25 quizzes and a rat quiz in lab, which are the only graded items, but if you study hard you'll do well.
Nice guy overall. Class isnt easy, but it's still possible to do well. He isnt super clear about what he wants you to know. Dont get carried away by the side things he teaches about. Stay focused on actual material. Expect to do your own work and spend lots of time outside of class. ASK QUESTIONS. Didnt like his focus on gender pronouns
My class went online in March due to the pandemic, so I didn't get the full experience. As others said, don't just take lecture notes and expect to be ready for the tests. The lectures are 50% abridged notes you should be taking as you read the textbook, and 50% illustrative examples from the internet. I found it helpful, personally.
THE WORST PROFESSOR NORMANDALE EVER HAD! Jesus, don't take a class with this guy, he is sweet, but this isn't worth it! He is a tougher grader, doesn't know how to explain what he wants, his exams are pretty heavy, hard, and ambiguous. I took fall online classes, he doesn't have zoom meetings and not even bother recording classes and posting!
Physiology overall is difficult. It doesn't matter what professor you take it with it's a lot of work. I put in a butt load of work to get an A in this class. Use the learning objectives to guide your reading and note card making. Go to his zoom office hours and ask questions. He doesn't post lecture videos often so get ready to read a lot.
Dr. Reutter isnt the professor to take online. Anatomy with him this semester was HORRIBLE. Ive never felt so unsupported by an educator. Most people got low grades or got caught cheating. Posts nothing besides old study guides that make references to lectures from previous semesters in-person. He gets paid to make his students teach themselves.
Do NOT take any class with this teacher. He is completely disrespectful. He does not do ANY Zoom's. Makes you learn everything yourself. Unorganized/unspecific. Uses old material before pandemic. Emailed him my concerns and he basically spit in my face and backhandedly told me I'm incompetent. AWFUL! Was only in class for 10 days and got NO refund.
Are we all talking about the same professor?! He was great! The people that are saying otherwise are probs lazy pos that got mad at him for not accepting their lack of effort. Watch lectures and take notes; read the chapters. It is a science course, what do you expect. If you do those things the test are pretty easy. I'm taking him again for physi
Do NOT take this professor. He is very hard. Super stressful.
I loved anatomy with Mike. He is a super knowledgeable professor and truly cares about students. I found that if I read the textbook and could answer all the study guide questions I was able to do very well on the tests. Lab quizzes are simple; make quizlets to study outside lab. If you are willing to put in hard work, you will do great!
He’s a great teacher! I mean its physiology obviously you’re gonna have to work hard, but if you’re organized and go over the material a few times the test aren’t actually that bad. Set a pace and dedicate time everyday. It’s material you are going to need to know if this is part of your major so actually learn it, don’t memorize
This class is well organized. Read the chapters, watch the lectures, and make flash cards over topics on the study guide. The material for the test is on the study guide, he isn’t trying to trick you. Seriously I don’t know why people give him such a hard time when it’s the amount of effort you put in that gives you the grade.
He is very detailed in his lectures. He lays out the pace of the chapters on the schedule and the material expected for tests is on the study guides. This class is very cut and dry. If you can’t pass this class and then blame the teacher for your bad grades, please don’t go into the medical field. It’s only going to get harder.
It is my second time taking the class with the same professor. I thought at first that the problem was on me that I did not push myself enough, but in my second semester taking it, I realize that is not that. Reutter does not want the students to succeed, at least the ones that already fail before.
He does NOT want students to succeed! Class is just based on exams, if you have test anxiety, do not take class with him.
I regret so badly to take class with him!
He made me not enjoy anatomy. Class focus just on exams, not other way to get points!
At first it might seem very difficult to achieve but with the help of this professor with labs I was struggling with he helped me a lot in being able to pass this class. If you actually spend time and effort in understanding the material you will be able to pass. This professor is also very caring and want you to pass but a little heavy on exams.
I had Dr. Reutter for Anatomy and Physiology. He is very passionate about teaching, as he will go above and beyond to ensure you know the material before taking the test(s), but you have to be proactive and ask. It is not an easy class, you will get out what you put into it. Ensure you are utilizing the materials you learn and study efficiently.
DON'T LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS! I had Mike for both Anat and Phys, and I can say he's one of the best profs I've had. It's a tough subject so you do have to work hard, but he really cares about his students, and will do what he can to help you succeed. He makes videos to supplement material, and has clear outlines for what to know in each chapter.
90% of your grade depends on exams. I felt like I was never prepared for a single exam.
Professor Reuter spends far too much time during lectures talking about his glory days. He goes off topic during all his lectures. His class is solely graded through tests. Only take Prof. Reuter if you can teach yourself the material. As his lectures will leave you needed to learn it on your own.
MR REUTTER IS AMAZING! that being said, you still have to put in A LOT of extra work because anatomy is a hard class. He cares about his students and is more than willing to help, but you have to ask for it. He gives tons of extra online resources and extra lab time. If you put in the work, stay on schedule, and use his resources, you will do well!
He is very nice however this class isn't a cake walk. His lectures wouldn't match the study guide and he wouldn't go over them either. Sometimes I felt like I had to teach myself the subject. Quizzes helped me barely pass the class. Definitely take a lot of time reviewing the material.
I wouldn't recommend anyone from his physiology. All he thinks is how he could make you fall for the course even though his course is self-study and not helping you with anything. He marks wrong and gives zero when you have the right answer. He doesn't want you to ask him why the right answer equals zero if you ask he gets upset. He has no respect!
Currently taking him for Anatomy, he is very kind and approachable. Attend his open labs he is more than willing to help you manage his course. The study guides look scary but they are super helpful. His test are easy if you study as well as his lab practicals. I don't see why he has such bad ratings, you gotta put in the same work he does!
I have never been one to be good at science but I love this class! Every chapter/lab exam you get a study guide and u have 3-5 weeks in between exams to learn the material. No assignments but some pop quizzes. He also goes over everything in lab/ lecture. idk why people are hating, this is stuff you actually need to LEARN for the medical field
Although anatomy is just an overall difficult class, Reutter is always available to answer questions and likes to get to know his students. He is one of the only professors I have had that knows my name. If you put in the time with studying and such you will be able to get through the class.
Yes, anatomy is a very difficult class! Reutter is an amazing professor tho, take him!! He has a wonderful personality, takes the time to get to know his students, and was always happy to answer all of my questions. He knew my name and always had a welcoming smile. I am taking him again for physiology in the fall!
Dr. Reutter really cares about his students! He's the kindest man. Unlike any professor I've ever had, he is totally focused on his students success. He is very helpful in open lab time and is available to help students outside of class time. Anatomy is a hard class, but using the previous exams helps so much.
Anatomy is tough, but Professor Reutter really cares about students' success. His open labs and resources like unstuck study are super helpful. Put in the work and you'll do well.
You can tell that this professor cares about his students and enjoys the stuff he teaches. That said, he does often get distracted and sometimes his lectures seem disorganized and you may feel a little confused or lost, so you gotta teach yourself sometimes. But he is there to help anytime needed and he's super helpful with questions.
I really wanted to like this professor, and he is a great guy, but he shouldn't be a teacher. I understand anatomy is challenging, but he makes learning it difficult. His lectures are difficult to understand. I feel as if I'm relying on YouTube and Quizlet to get through this class. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take him, respectfully.
Anatomy is HARD, a lot of content in a short amount of time. This being said, I would retake this class again with Dr. Reutter in a heartbeat! He is passionate about the topic he teaches and cares a lot about his students' success. Always super willing to answer questions and VERY patient. No homework so your grade depends on your exams!
No homework, no extra credit to save your score. ONLY a quiz with 1 point to save you?If he's a good professor, he should recommend some solutions to improve students' grades, not just with his advice. He's always kind and helpful with students; however, the average score of students in his class is around a C and B. What's the point of his advice?
Human anatomy is very hard, and I'm not good at taking tests or science-related courses, but if science isn't your strong suit, I wouldn't recommend taking this teacher.
I have to accept that all the best time slots for the Anatomy and Physiology class during the day belong to him (it's always been this way through many semesters). This is truly lacking in diversity, and choosing him for this class really feels like something forced. All the grades are determined by the exam.
Please don't take this prof unless you don't mind teaching yourself anatomy. No homework, just his study guides, which I find unhelpful to use. He doesn't have any helpful resources to guide you either, lectures are confusing. Exams are the only thing that determines whether you pass or fail the class. Nice prof, but terrible teaching methods.
your grade relies on how well you do on lab and content exams. no extra credits. no homework or helpful guidance. during the second lab exam the overall class score was around a 50%, which is extremely low, but he didn't seem phased. full lecture room of students and the numbers dropped significantly afterwards. take his class at your own risk.
I have now had Dr. Mike for anatomy and physiology, and I do not understand the bad ratings. Are these hard classes? Yes. But that is to be expected. The class is basically just graded based on tests and a few things in the lab. Overall, the lectures are organized well, he answers the questions, and there aren't huge surprises on tests.
You can tell that Dr. Mike genuinely cares about the success of his students and about the topics he's teaching. Anatomy and physiology are really hard and it can be frustrating. Dr. Mike's teaching method can be a little confusing to follow sometimes and it's normal to feel lost but once you get the hang of it, the class gets easier to understand.
I don't understand why Dr. Reutter has received so many negative reviews, considering his dedication and genuine willingness to help. Anatomy demands full-time commitment -it's the study of the human body in depth-and unfair to blame a professor. Dr. Reutter is approachable, kind, and consistently ready to support students achieve their goals
He is very enthusiastic and kind. However, everything is graded solely through tests. There are no homework assignments or extra credits. It is very risky to take his class if you don't study regularly. If your test scores are low, nothing can save you. Study 100% on your own. His slides don't have complete information, just a few outlines. REGRET!
I took physiology from Dr. Reutter a couple years ago as a prerequisite for my nursing school. I am now graduated and have a great job. His class material and way he taught helped me throughout school to understand difficult concepts. He was always enthused to help, staying late / coming early, and wouldn't stop until understood! I'm so thankful!!
Dr. Mike is an extremely talented instructor. His enthusiasm for the subject is infectious, and he is very sweet and extremely unserious (in the best way). Always ready to answer questions, his office door is always open. The tests are challenging, requiring you to understand concepts from the ground up, but they follow the study guides/resources.
