great professor. taught Java Programming at a good pace. don't worry about getting the book. is willing to work with you and gives a lot of guidance on assignments.
Prof. Robinson is excellent. He goes well above and beyond to have his students understand the material. The lab hours are great, and he is willing to extend them if required. If you send him an email he will reply very quickly. I recommend this professor
Great teacher, awesome interpretation with the material. He's a really good teacher in CS.
I had a great experience with this professor. He will get out of his way to make sure students understand the material. He stays after class and helps students in the lab. I hope FIU hires more professors like this.
This class was both fresh and surprisingly fun once you got the hang of the course. The professor was helpful every step of the way, and even took his time on and off work to make sure you understood the material. I would take any other courses this professor offers if i had the chance to do so.
The course is good yet requires that you work on the programming assignments. There are 3 exams and each have extra credit. The professor is very helpful. He even has a class on Saturdays that any student can attend which will help if you miss class. He doesn't take attendance, but being in the class is the best way to learn the material. Take it.
This professor is awesome. He is dedicated to his work and his students, he will take as much time as necessary out to ensure that you understand the material. His teaching method is great, if you take this class you will not regret it...trust me!
Great Class, probably the best one ive taken at FIU. Teaches it really well and all the extra credit really helps. So long as you dont miss any projects you should get an A.
This was a great experience. This was my first programing class and I was able to understand the material thanks to professor Robinson. He is extremely helpful and patient. As long as you attend to class, take notes and ask questions you should pass the class with an A.
Easy concepts to grasp, ExpJava programmers dont need to worry about attending class. In-class material are on exams. Friendly, ability to explain and have patience with you only if he sees your engagement. Gives credit to questions if you prove you know the concepts. Truly an amazing experience. Deadlines are a must! Enjoy!! =)
This class was a easy A.
Awesome Professor! Don't need book, always available after class in lab. Assignments are easy and take home. Makes everything easy to understand. Take him, you won't regret it.
He's freaking awesome!
Explanations are extremley helpfull. Only teacher i have met so far that actually goes beyoned to help his students understand. Extra credit on the exams are a BIG help
Great teacher and very lenient, KEEP THE CURRENT CURRICULUM THE SAME. Please no more group projects.
Great professor, very helpful, will work with you to better understand the material.
Really nice and willing to help everyone. Has no problem going over something more than once if you didnt get it the first time.
Explains lessons very well. Doesn't mind helping you out and even provides extra credit sometinmes.
Great professor, very nice and lenient with assignments and very helpful in getting work done. Could talk a bit louder though, and be slighlty more organized in delivering assignments, other than that he is great.
AWESOME INSTRUCTOR! Makes everything easy!
I admire the fact that he allows a lot opportunities to do your best. He goes on saturdays EVERY SATURDAY at FIU main campus to go over any problems or doubts. Great person trully.
This professor is one of my favorite of all time. Not going to lie, it's not an easy subject but he will do his best to make sure you learn it (and you will). He is extremely understanding, patient, yet rigorous all at once. Definitely recommend you take him.
He is an amazing teacher and wants his studens to succeed and is committed to helping them. He makes himself available in the lab out of class hours to assist students.
Provides a PDF with his own notes which is extremely useful. I didn't even get the textbook! He is available in the lab and via email for help. Had 3 tests and 5 programs. I knew nothing about programming before this class and now I know a great deal more. Recommend 100%!!!
Great professor that loves to make sure his students succeed. He is available before and after class for help and has no problem answering emails. Overall very good teacher.
Took COP2250 & COP2270, great professor; dedicated to his work; felixible to work with you.
Very clear and interested in the well being of students. He will help you if you need it, all you need to do is show interest and ask :)
I have taken this course with other professors and did poorly. Robinson is by far one of my favorite professors at FIU. He takes interest in his students and makes sure you understand the concepts before moving on. If you have no knowledge of programming then HE IS A MUST! He walks you through each assignment.
One of the few professors who cares for the success of the students. Will recommend any class with him.
The class could get a little difficult at times, but the professor provides so much out of the classroom support, that you'll be ok. You can contact him via email or in person at the lab. I did enjoy his study sessions in the lab.
Let me just say, Mr. Robinson is the best of the best. His class is not easy, it's challenging. Yes, you can get A, but you will have to work hard for it. He is available certain lab hours for tutoring, and he helps with the assignments there. I highly recommend his lab hours. I consider him a helpful, funny, and easygoing teacher. Take him!
Professor Michael Robinson cares about his students, and he is very helpful. I suggest taking your classes with him. His classes are fun and i went to every class. I wish they can give him more classes to teach for Computer Science. Take him and you will love it.
Professor Michael is very helpful, always available to answer questions and he really cares about you learning the material.
The professor has plenty of patience to explain. He aims to make the students use their logic and not just memorize the answers. This class is just like learning how to play pianno, if you don't practice you will not learn. He is VERY fair when grading and makes the class fun and interesting. I trully recommend this professor.
The Java I class with Prof. Robinson provided me with the tools to succeed. This was my first programming class, and no it was not easy, but Prof. Robinson made the class very enjoyable & interesting. The assignments were difficult, so lab hours are a must. He's always willing & able to help so take advantage of that. Exams weren't as complicated.
Excellent professor that always makes himself available to the students for questions and issues.
Mr. Robinson is the best programming teacher you can get! This is NOT an Easy A, you really must work hard to get an A or a B in the class. Class=5 Assignments & 3 Exams. The exams are based on the Assignments, so you must do them! The professor is very helpful, he will even come to the lab and explain / help with your programming. He's the BEST:)
Book not required, he even created his own book for the class! Hard class but great teacher. Take him!
He was great. He has a lot of patience. Always willing to help as long as u show him that u are putting forth effort into the assignments. This class requires time and effort and I promise u will do well, I sure did. He really made my foundation in java really strong. Because of him I am now considering pursuing a masters in computer science since I'm already done with my degree in mathematics.
Professor Robinson is the best programming Professor ever.Class is easy if U take notes and do Yr assignments because the exams are similar the assignments. He likes to teach, listen to the students opinion, ask the student idea and alway want to make material simple for the students easy to understand and build their strong foundation.
Very nice professor, always willing to help the students and it takes time to do so. Class is clear and the homeworks cover a wide range of class subject. Highly recommended.
Prof. Robinson is a great professor. He is what all professors at FIU should be - patient, helpful, and interested in teaching. He takes you through every step you need to succeed in class and is great at making you understand the materials and the concepts. So many other professors don't put in the time required to actually teach their students.
Great teacher, material is NOT crystal clear, but I enjoyed the challenge. He makes up for it by being EXTRA patient (sometimes too patient) with his students; he provides excellent support outside of the class schedule. Test reviews are great, but be aware of an extra question thrown in there as a surprise. People, INDENTATION is your best friend.
Prof. Robinson has patient and passion to teach. Your effort of the assignments is the key to get A in his class. Class material was not hard and he always provide help even with his own time. Alway give advices and technology development update. He want his student have a solid fundation in CS/IT and furture sucess.
Great professor! one of the best i've taken ... Easy to understand, patient, and always available outside of class if you need help. Definitely take him if you get the chance!! Book is useless though - save your money.
Robbie's class is awesome! With new software comes new challenges. I learned how to use terminal and command prompt pretty well after taking this class. Awesome stuff! I recommend every taking professor Michael Robinson!
Unorganized teaching style. Unclear lectures. Convoluted and uninformative test "reviews". Painfully boring lecturer. If os is not a topic you are incredibly familiar with, choose another prof. Very nice man but unfortunately I will be avoiding his courses in the future.
He's great. He will stop if you have a question and don't understand and will do his best to help. Sometimes unclear but if you make the effort you'll understand. Easily FIU's best programming professor. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. He instead has his own PDF that he wrote himself which follows the class. Highly recommended if you actually wanna learn!
This class isn't an easy A, however he is always willing to help! This was my first programming class, and I am Definitely happy I took it with Mr. Robinson. His lab hours could be a little more flexible, but he is always open to taking questions in class. I really recommend him.
He's a great professor. He will do anything to help those who are willing to work for a good grade. The only setback of the class was that he repeated the same material several times during the first days of class and by the end we were on a rush to get through the hardest material involving arrays and constructors.
Adorable guy, signed up for his sequel classes. His lectures are a little all over the place, but if you ask him to clarify on a specific topic, he will tell you exactly how to do it. He has notes for the class that carry over to Intermedate, so no need to buy the book. All the answers are in his notes. He's fantastic. SERIOUSLY recommended.
Professor Robinson is amazing, he is so nice and funny. He teachs very well and if you do not understand anything he will glady go over it unil everyone understands it. When ever you need help just go to the lab and he helps a lot! Go to class and you will do great. There is 4 programs (hw) and 4 exams that are based exactly on the programs.
Proffesor Robinson is an excellen, helpful, caring and funny individual. His knowledge on the subject is amazing and will dedicate much of his own time to his students. It was a great class to take as I knew nothing on programming prior and left with a a lot of knowledge.
I took his class at Miami Dade and it was the easiest class I've ever taken. He is a supper sweet guy and didn't really lecture at all except for the fist day of class, it wasn't very clear but everything he said was in the book. He lets you take the test twice and let's you see the questions you got wrong so it's an easy A.
I found Prof. Robinson a refreshing teacher of the many that I have at FIU. He cares of his students ability to understand and will explain until you get it. With learning disability this is important for me. He meet me weekly to help me understand how to make 3 scripting language work together "the logic" and know I get it and can script along!
Professor Robonspn is a very humble man who will answer all of your questions and even stay an extra hour after class just to answer whatever questions the students may have. He also gives great reviews the class prior to the exam. Exams are based greatly from the projects/homeworks. I think I broke the grading scale, I got a 101.3 (A+)
Very good professor, I do recommend him. Though, you have to study by yourself a lot and read the book. Test are easy the same as the assignments plus some concepts from the book.
Professor Robinson is great. He explains really well and draws on the board so we all can get a better understanding of whats happening. Really helpful in every aspect. He gives lab hours even when its not a requirement. He really works in favor of the student. And if you go to every class you will do great on the tests.
Very polite, knowledgeable professor. Has applicable, real world experience. Really helpful to students that do not understand the topics covered immediately and very fair with grades. I will be looking out for other courses taught by him in the future.
Professor Robinson is a great teacher. He is very understanding with student's concerns. You will learn in his class but with like any other class you will need to put forth your efforts to succeed. Fair grader!
I recommended this professor. He is very helpful. Take notes in the class and you will pass with not problem. Do not buy the book, you won't need it.
The class teaches JSP, but he went out of his way to teach us the valuable php. Very understanding and introduces his students to many opportunities concerning future careers. Exams are straight forward directly from the projects. I enjoyed his class
A very nice and helpful professor who took a difficult topic and went over it until everyone understood. Will always make time to help you outside of class. Attending his lab is not mandatory but it will help you. I highly recommend you take this course with him. You won't regret it.
Excellent teacher. A little behind on the Java version, but nevertheless knows the subject intimately. Has much to say about sorting big data, owed partly to his genome research.
Greatest teacher to take Data Structures with. You will learn without killing your grade. Very helpful in class and outside class. Go to class and take good notes. Assignments are not too hard, learn and understand them fully and you will do well in the tests. 4 Assignments and 4 Exams which is the best syllabus this class could have.
He is fair grader and very helpful. Four exams and four homework programs. He cares about students and he is always willing to answer your questions. I wish I could take more classes from him.
He is not well suited for this class because he was never prepared and he doesn't want you thinking, he wants you memorizing code. You will not learn anything from this professor. He gives you the code for the assignments and the tests are a joke. If you have the opportunity. Take Data Structures with another professor, it is a crucial class.
This was the first time he taught this class. It is true most of the code had to be memorized. We used too much the API vs creating your own classes and the assignments weren't very challenging. I think it will be a much better experience for the students that take this class next. He makes himself available to help students with assignments.
Mature,well-adjusted, real-world experienced professor with realistic deadlines, sensible expectations and flexible pace that includes re-instruction of any gaps in his student base, such that you will in fact understand 100% of all course work by completion. Cares about your employable focus. Opportunity for tutoring/office hrs. Personal fave.
This calss was amazing thanks to him! He's a great teacher and really wants you to learn the material. He'll help you if you email him and will work at your pace. Very easy class with his help!
Professor Robinson is one of the best teachers you could ever take at FIU. He's very helpful, he respects each and every one of his students. He's flexible too, don't waste class time. I'd highly recommend him.
Data Structures class was an easy with M.Robinson. Easy assignments if you know how to use Java library. Tests are based on assignments and general concepts. Very easy going professor. Will allow you to make corrections to assignments and resubmit it. Thank you, professor. SUPER COOL !!!
Robinson is the best professor in the CS department. If you need a job in school, go to see him, this guy will get you the job. He cares a lot about the students, the HW's are easy and the exams are based on the HW's. However, you need to put a little bit of effort, he's not going to give away grades just by going to class. I recommend him 100%.
He's a very good professor. 4 assignments and an exam after each of them based on them. Complete the assignments, know and understand whats on them and you'll do well on the exams. Attendance is optional. He's pretty funny
He is willing to go extra miles to help you understand the material. Ask about his pdf book. It is crusial to visit his book to work on his assignments, no matter what class your taking with him. His exam are fairly easy but you have to work on the assignments. Listen very carefully the class before exams he will give you hints
Professor Robinson is a great professor. He was extremely helpful and was readily available to help whether it be before or after class, during office hours, and during lab hours. He goes at the classes pace making sure no one is left behind. I particularly liked the many real world applications and scenarios he gave. I highly recommend him.
Fantastic teacher. Really shows how much he cares about each student. Will go above and beyond to make a boring class interesting. If you want a professor who will motivate you to look for internships and CS related job then look no further. Knows his stuff.
I came into this class knowing very little about IT, and after taking this class with Robinson, I am confident in my knowledge of IT. He is extremely helpful, and even has lab/office hours on Saturdays for those who can't make it during the week. His lectures make the material easy to understand. I wish I could take him for every class.
Hes a really nice old man, who tries to help his students get ahead in their college life(internships, etc) so when they leave fiu they can get a good job, As the class goes just pay attention to what he teaches, do the homework, ask if your not sure and then study the homework since most of the content will be on the exam, but hes good take it
There are two things that are required in order to succeed in this course. Attend class and read the book. Though Robinson's methods of teaching are a little unorthodox and while the exams are fair, the best way to take the most out of this course is to show up, ask questions and attend the office hours.
Pros: partial credit cons: lacking knowledge within the given subjects, common mistakes and typos in official class assignments and tests, no test reviews, extremely forgetful, most classes you won't learn anything meaningful towards your professional career.
Class is very easy! Do the assignments and you will be fine! Answers questions when needed to! Highly recommend him!!!
Great professor! He really cares about his students and is willing to help. It's almost impossible not pass this class as long as you try. The professor even has lab hours available, so if you don't understand the assignment, he takes the time to personally explain. Very funny as well.
Great professor! He is always looking out for the students and teaches very well! If you ever have any problems, just tell him.
Great and very helpful, regardless of how many times you have to ask him anything. I will be taking his web class also. Cheers
It's hard to be satisfied with a professor, specially since the line between easy and hard is very dim with no space in between. However, Robinson does a good job in exposing a field he cares about, and if you are willing to learn and apply yourself to Computer Science, Robinson is one of the most finest CS professors that FIU currently offers.
Great teacher! I definitely recommend him.
Nice & funny guy, but can be picky grader. 4 programs/3 exams. Can be forgetful and disorganized. Among the most dedicated profs I've had in college, he holds many lab hrs for students who need help. Focus on his words in class, because exams will be similarly worded. Sometimes exam questions are tricky/vaguely worded, but he gives partial credit.
Great Professor, he will work with you. I went to every lab and ask a lot of questions, as do a lot of students who pass. Read the book it will help the most for he explains a topic then uses the book to reinforce his lecture. He is tricky but fair. Also, he is not too picky of a grader and gives partial credit. Do the work and no curve is needed.
Alright look, professor Robinson is a really nice guy. He will send you emails about internship opportunities and wants to see you do well, easy A, but you will not LEARN. He barely knows the material himself & wastes so much time! I am taking CDA4101 now w/ Prabakar and have learned more in the first week w/ him than I did in 16 w/ Robinson.
He is the best!! He cares about us and he is always willing to help us. His class is great and he explains everything that is going to be on test. He grades fair and tests are pretty easy if you attend to class and listen to his lecture. I will recommend him you won't regret!!
The Professor is nice and helpful, and it is easy to score well in this class if you attend the lectures and take notes. But i have heard that if you take this professor for this class, you will have a problem for the next CDA class because this professor is too easy.
This professor cares a lot about his students, helps you find internships and various opportunities. His tests are very similar to his Homework assignment. If you do the assignments and understand them then you should get an B+ or higher.
This professor is going to teach you what you need in programming world. Not a bunch of things you will never use. Show up, read the book and follow the directions to a 'T' and you will do well in this class. Remember you have to do your part. He is very helpful and always available during his office hours.
Prof. Michael Robinson is amazing. did not get high grade, but I learned. I respect his teaching methods, his willingness to help out of the office hours, and the fact that his material is of use to day and cross platfor. Thank you, Prof. Robinson, Id take your class anytime :)
He doesn't teach you and you learned by googling. Give you 3 exams, 4 programs which 2 are java programs and two linux programs. This class is operating system and not programming.
Best Prof. @ fiu, Always there to help . Only 1 that teaches PHP and other Relevant Subjects matters rather then JSP. He does expect you to do some digging.
Very good professor... will teach what you will use in the field. He will make you work for an A, but his classes are really interesting. Will take all his classes!
Hey you! Yeah you on the computer chair! Are you good at teaching YOURSELF?! Then Holy HTML! This class might be right for you! Sign up today! Dont let this amazing opportunity slip by! (*Some restrictions apply, void if CS major, see S.T.A.R.S. for details.)
If you need to have practical knowledge and be ready for the market, TAKE this Prof. I repeat, this class is an ASSET for your career. Professor Robinson knows what he's speaking about. He can be very funny too, but don't skip his class because of that. At the end you might regret it if you don't come to class and expect to receive a good grade.
He doesn't teach you and you learned by googling
This professor will help you if you ask for help. Might take away points for irrelevant stuff but at the end he will round up one point,it you got a 79.00001,he will give you an 80 which was my case. Study regular and you will do fine in his class, very good and funny professor
Great Professor, gives you all the resources you need to pass and more. He's always willing to help, but makes you earn your grade. Tells you from day one what's expected of you, I will definitely try to take more classes with him.
I got an A- which I was very proud of because I worked very hard for his class. His tests are very confusing and most of what is in them comes from things he may or may not have said. Always attend the lectures and don't bother with the book, he doesn't really use it on exams. The assignments were really easy.
Difficult class, but this professor taught it very well. Always available during office hours if you have a question or concern. Make sure to attend his lectures because he breaks down topics for you and you will learn more. I highly recommend him.
Pros: Easiest teacher at FIU. That's it. Cons: He barely knows the subject, most of the knowledge he has is outdated. He is incredibly stubborn to the point that he will not admit that he is wrong when he clearly is. He plays favorites, and he isn't good at explaining anything. Honestly, I'm convinced most students take him due to how easy he is.
Great professor although he's not the best lecturer. He makes plenty of time for his students and is always their to help with assignments, side projects, and finding jobs or internships. Follow his instructions and ask if you don't understand something. Tests aren't bad, just study and you'll do fine. Likes to joke, but can also take a joke.
Pretty easy class no matter who you take it with. Robinson's a great professor, although not the best lecturer. He makes up for it though by making himself super accessible to his students. Talk to him after class and you'll realize he's extremely knowledgeable and a great asset to your professional and student life.3 classes with him 3 A's!
This professor is pure politics. He plays the game well and manipulates people for him to keep his job. Professor? I think not. he is not a professor and is a phd candidate teaching to pay for his classes. He is Biased and unfair to students based on race and if he likes you or not. Play his game and pass the tests. Play his mind and get the A.
Hardest thing I've ever done. His class with make you stressed out and you will lose sleep over the assignments. He is a VERY tough grader and he always takes off points for everything. Stay away from him! He doesn't even teach! : (
He is the worst professor I've ever had. It may sound harsh but I honestly feel like I haven't learned anything. This class is all about surviving to keep your GPA pretty much. The STARS tutors don't even help you either. All they do is play video games and other stupid things, and when you ask for help, they brush you off. "Time is money" they say
He has no empathy for his students. It really saddens me that he has a bad attitude towards the class. He doesn't care about you at all. You feel like you're alone in class. He also makes snide comments about his students. He makes you hate the class.
Very rude, unprofessional professor. He is EXTREMELY picky on everything, and a liar. He isn't as available as he claims, isn't as helpful, and is forgetful. I've asked him multiple times for things that he never delivers. He also skips through the chapters in the lectures, assuming you know everything. Worst professor I've had. Not recommended.
I had him for two semesters and he is pretty absent-minded. The assignments aren't exactly hard but he strays off from what the web page would say and add more things to the assignments. His grading is also not very consistent so make sure to talk to him about your assignment grade once you get it. His tests are okay, better than the assignments.
Assignments are time consuming, but you'll learn a lot from it. Its a lot of trial and error; he shows you code but you learn by messing with it. Don't be afraid to ask questions. He has many office hours available for when you need help, so take advantage of it while you can (he's busier closer to due dates). You need to put some effort to pass.
Robinson is famous around the IT department for his Website construction class. 4 projects, 3 exams. Simple. If you don't want to learn HTML, PHP, and MySQL then you will not pass. He is a tough grader, but this class is easily passable if you do the work. Don't leave projects for the last second. Study the projects for the exams. Done.
Excellent professor. If you want to learn and pass the class. Take this professor, Essay A if you follow the rule and take notes in class.
Excellent professor, if you want to learn, this is the professor. Always ready to help the students. Easy A so far you take note in class.
Great professor, especially one who teaches you the skills for the workplace. Use his office hours to get better clarification on the assignments and class lectures. Always available in person. Responds well to emails regarding questions but don't bother to fix your grade through email, even though it's unprofessional it's really inefficient.
He's somewhat of a troll as he makes jokes throughout the class, whether its good or not. He sometimes rambles about subjects that are off topic, or rants about other topics. Once you get past that, he's a pretty good teacher who knows his stuff and really wants to help his students learn. Almost always in the labs (his office) when not in class.
I have taken Professor Robinson before, this has been the hardest curriculum course, however. Willing to help if you come with questions and show up to class. Do NOT wait for the last minute. He cares for his students and is always providing helpful information about opportunities in the field. Great guy, useful class, hard material.
He's a unique guy. He does care about his students, though. Sometimes he goes off on tangents about other stuff, but he's a good prof. Take advantage of his lab hours because he's there to help you. Also, don't do his HW at the last minute because they can be a pain. If you do well on them you'll do well on the tests since they are based on the HWs
Great person in and out of class.
I really like Professor Robinson. He spends a lot of time providing lab hours for students to ask questions and review assignments. The only negative comment I have about Professor Robinson is that he needs to improve his method of teaching. I find that I have to do a lot of research on my own to learn the material.
He can be very rudemean but you have to just reply the same way. He wants you to ask questions; if you don't, he assumes you know the material and won't go over it. Really tough grader. If you show him an assign. after the fact, make sure you are right because he might take pts. off after he already gave it to you. Work on assign. early to ask ?s
Spends a lot time talking about things that have nothing to do with the course. Very picky about exam answers, have to be exactly as he talked about in class. Take notes. Assignments aren't hard, but he's a bit of a tough grader. Don't bother trying to argue exam answers, even if you're right, you're still wrong. He does care about his students.
Majority of class time is spent talking about things not related to the class. He might talk about some club rather than the course content. Need help? He will just say to copy and paste from his website. You will not learn anything from him, focus on learning the content on your own. Avoid him if possible, it is puzzling that he is a professor.
Very helpful during the lab hours. Goes in depth to explain all of the material. Is very specific and uses jargon. Will answer any questions asked during the lab hours. Great way to get some hands-on experience that actual FIU classes do not offer.
This summer semester, we were introduced to a hardware lab that he started up in the new PG6 Building. We got to disassemble desktops and learn in depth each component, make CAT5 cables and was shown how to disassemble a laptop. It was completely optional but as an CSIT Major, having hands on experience is important in our field. Would take again!
Computer OS class was simple enough. Summer consisted of 2 exams and 1 cumulative final. Homework consisted of 4 small programs. 1 program in java, then another 2 assignments in linux shell and windows batch scripting. Best way to do well on the exams is to come to class. He tells what you need to know. If you read your notes, that is all you need.
You can tell he really cares about the education of his students. He held a hardware lab twice a week, free of charge, where he let us take desktops apart, showed us different types of cables and techniques and even let us make a CAT5 which we took home. Tests are based off assignments so understand HW and you'll get an A.
Great professor. A littler difficult when comes to grading but if you follow his instructions, you'll be just fine. Take notes in classes, he usually says "this go to the test" and it really goes to the test. Follow all instructions to the dot when turning in assignments. Go to the hardware lab which it's very fun and will get you some extra points
Great Professor! Robinson's class isn't a cake-walk but you get what you put in. He's always there for you in terms of providing feedback, and his unique sense of humor will keep you entertained along the way. The key to passing his classes is to collaborate with your fellow peers and discuss what you're learning.
He was extremely helpful and taught very well. The topics he covered were relevant and were used at my job. Do not expect an easy A, but do realize you will learn. He is also available during his lab and office hours. I suggest you take courses with him because of his eagerness to teach his students.
Professor Robinson is a really great professor. He's extremely knowledgeable and uses his first-hand experience to help explain some lectures. He can go off-topic sometimes, but they're not bad stories at all. Mostly success stories of previous students. Optional lab but recommended. Hands on knowledge is important. Don't slack and you'll pass!
Prof. Robinson is a great teacher, he really cares about his students and is constantly trying to help them. His class structure is a bit unorthodox, there is really no book you can study from, it's all from class notes and homework. HW is 40% of your grade! His tests are tough to study for at first, but get easier once you figure out his style.
Spends most of his class time off topic marketing his students accomplishment, but of course everyone in IT must pass thru his course, it is mandatory! Please stop the show off, just teach. The HW given were average complexity, the problem lays in that he is not clear. Don't you dare having a different view and telling him, you will be in trouble!
Professor Robinson really cares about his students and will go out of his way to help them. He doesn't just hand you a degree, you have to work for it. Taking a class with him is definitely worth it.
Cant figure something out? hes not being descriptive? "I cant tell you how to do it"... Basically a teach yourself class. He gives out a puzzle to solve, but throws away the pieces in the middle of the ocean and expects you to fetch it. He gives you a hint tho! its near water! useless
I used to like computer science and information technology. Then, I took him. He made me hate my major. If there is someone that can suck the fun out of programming and learning in general, it's this guy. I don't recommend him at all. He also makes the subject more difficult than it should be.
If you email him something wrong, like a mistake in the subject line or forgetting to put which class you're in, he'll deduct lots of points. He then laughs in your face about it and makes a joke. He doesn't take anything seriously. This is my GRADE at stake. He's trouble, and seems to enjoy failing his students. Worst prof I've ever had at FIU 8(
Good teacher, goes a little off topic but knows his stuff. I struggled initially mainly because I did not take the course as seriously as i should have. Study, make some friends and study with them, and start assignments early. You should be good if you follow these tips
To pass Professor Robinson's class you must be present in all his classes, take notes of everything he says, and follow instructions. Very simple. If you do not understand something go see him during his lab hours he is more than happy to help everyone. Great Professor!
4 projects 10 points each for a total of 40, 2 exams and a final (20 points each for a total of 60 point) Grades are cumulative.
I took this class last semester, didn't really put much time into it. This semester, I put way more time into it plus ASI tutoring. And I did much better in the class. For his tests, you must put the answer that he says when he reviews the test. If not, it will be marked wrong. He also goes off topic a lot. Overall, he is a good professor.
he will give you 4 programs, two 3 exams. You need to answers all questions on the exam exactly how he said in class. He takes points off from you for everything. Bad teacher and you will not learn anything from him.
He is the worst professor I've had in my entire life. He comes late to class, takes on too many responsibilities around school that he can't handle, gets distracted easily and, makes the same jokes on a daily basis. His tests are objective, if you don't put the answer he has in mind, then it's wrong. Many trick questions. You can't argue with him.
Let me quote him verbatim: *Student inquires about something they don't understand* Robinson: "Well, I don't know, but you know who does? My friend Google." This sums up the entire class in one transaction. DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY. HE DESERVES NO RESPECT.
"Google it" , enough said.
I have taken several classes with Robinson, he is probably one of the best professors at FIU, he goes to the lab 3 or 4 times a week to see if we need extra help, he helps with the tutoring lab which is FREE and open every day. He has another FREE hardware lab several times a week. This is my last class with him. I recomend Robinson very much
He knows a lot about the IT world. Attendance is very important. He has lab hours where you can ask him questions about anything related to his assignments, GO! There's hardware lab. In the lab you learn about A+ material and there is also some hands on activities. His exams are anything he covered in class or lab. Take notes on everything he says!
He will help you if you are invested in his class not if you come the day before and you want help because the assignment is due. The hardware lab is helpful in knowing what is going to be on the A+ exam and he talks a lot about being in the field. He jokes around sometimes 2 make sure everyone is paying attention GO 2 BOTH LABS & ASK HIM QUESTIONS
He helps and guides you from beginning to end in the course. Come to class, write notes and you will be just fine. He spends lots of time teaching in the lab and provides a Hardware lab for the A+ certification in which students learn so much more. He is an amazing individual that will the extra mile for any student!
He can be a fair professor I suppose. He gives 4 programs based on cmd prompt or terminal regarding commands along with java. You have 3 exams no multiple choice and YOU HAVE TO WRITE THE ANSWER EXACTLY HOW HE SAYS if not he will deduct points no mercy, no extra credit( except for one opportunity)He's a tough grader so study and you will pass.
You have to work for your grade which is the point of being a college student. Attend class, take notes, ask questions, do your assignments & youll pass. Hes always helping students such as having hardware labs to prepare students for the A+ certification & office hours. He just published a java textbook & will teach intermediate java in Summer.
He shows you the code to make your site & goes over each part of the code. For your assignments DON'T COPY PASTE & change values it wont help you for the exams. Attend class, take notes, ask questions, do your assignments & you'll pass with an A. Don't wait till the last minute like the students who are giving negative ratings did.
Professor Robinson is really something else but, he did make me learn while I was taking this class. Make sure you attend every class and copy down everything he says verbatim. There are 4 programming assignments and 3 exams. Everything about this class is challenging so be prepared.
One of the best teachers in FIU, he is really funny as well. Everything he taught in class was useful for my career, the linux commands and specially the scriptings. I must say that he is a hard grader, and his exams are not easy, you must study. TAKE NOTES! Anything he lectures in class is useful for the homeworks and exams. He is a kind person!
Saw him regularly forget agreements he made with students. Shell+Batch scripts are useful. Go to his hardware lab. My semester he gave you a grade point for each one you went to (total of 10). I wasn't going to go learn to wire Ethernet cables when I do it at work. He never told us he was going to give extra credit for going. Can be unfair.
I never know that a Professor at University could be so disorganized. Man, that's a shame. While I'm typing this, even on his website you CAN'T find the syllabus of his class. You wanna get frustrated? Not knowing what the content of his classes is about? Take any of Michael Robinson classes. Good luck for those who rely on good comments about him!
Professor Robinson is an excellent teacher. Be ready to work because you will have several several assignments and quizzes . The exams are straight forward just make sure you know all the code for your programs. I wish I could clone the professor so I could have him in all my classes. He is truly a professor that cares about his students.
I love tutoring program offered by professor Robinson in the Hardware Lab. The tutors truly made a difference in my understanding of web design . They hold terrific tutors especially Alex Herrera. The tutors have wealth of knowledge and if you really want to pass the class and get an A I would recommend that you go to the lab every day.
Michael Robinson is a great professor. Yes he is unorganized but sometimes it benefits the student because he pushes back the due dates on assignments and test dates. You will learn a lot in his Operating Systems class and there is a hardware lab that is available with free tutoring. He is a tough grader and ask a lot of questions.
Great professor if you're able to take him because he does not teach Java every semester. I took him now in the summer term and I learned a lot. He has his own textbook which is great. He has a quiz on the same day that you turn in an assignment which is based on the assignment. He does short respond and select all that apply questions (tricky).
Robinson is one of the best Professors out there. He really does care about his students. If you work for your grade you will pass. Be ready to take notes and just listen to key words about what he says in the class and you will pass.
Honestly one of the most challenging Professor I have ever had not because of the material but because of his attitude and demeanor. Every question that is asked is responded by one of his smart sarcastic remarks, and when he does give you an answer it is very vague YouTube information which is also poorly designed and very vague. Don't take.
Great professor! I really enjoy his personality and the way he conducts his class. He's kinda sarcastic and it helps to lighten the mood in the class. A little tough at grading. Sometimes he will take points off for things that were not clear in the assignment. But overall I learned a lot in OS and am now enjoying his Web Development class.
Professor Robinson is a tough grader, but very fair if you put in the effort and time. He is willing to work with all students unless you're the type to disrupt the class. Very knowledgeable and knows most of the tricks, so I recommend not cheating. He posts online videos so I encourage everyone to take him online if possible! Expecting an "A"
The worse Professor at FIU. He doesnt grade based on right or wrong, he grades based on his opinion. So even if your work is correct, he will mark it wrong or take off points because he didnt teach it. He doesn't respond to e-mails, chooses which students he likes and treats them differently. Doesnt show general respect. He is just a terrible human
This guy is very strict on how he wants an assignment and is more than ready to take points off for the smallest error. He has so sympathy for late assignment so get them in on time. This class has 6 "programs" to turn in, 6 quiz's which are given the day you turn it in, and 3 exams. He will literally take 0.1 point off for not having comments.
No clear Grading Criteria for any assignments. Questions for project are Vague. Extra credit opportunities were given. Does not explain assignments. Never Available in office.
He's just a mess. 6 website assignments. You'll learn html, php, sql and jsp. Midterm and final along with quiz after every assignment. Take points off for the smallest error or even format. Class is easy as long as you have a group you can work with.
People have different points deducted for the exact same error. Will take off points even if the code is 100% exactly like the code he gave in his lecture and correct. Confront him with the error, it will take a week for him to claim responsibility. He will deny the error all class. He made this class a lot more stressful than it should be.
Awesome teacher. Just need to follow his directions to a T.
Robinson is awesome. I wish he taught more classes. As you can see in some comments he has a couple hiccups but for me the good outweighs the bad. The class is extremely easy. He gives you the code so it's pretty mindless work. The quizzes can be tough... if you don't study. haha. the tests way to easy, but the final was kinda a curve ball.
Professor Robinson is great! People who fail his class simply don't study or pay attention in class. All the code is given to you!! All you need to do is change some minor things. There are 6 programs, 6 quizzes, and 3 tests. Learn the code and this class will be a breeze. The code is simple to understand and you can go to his lab for extra help.
Professor Robinson is one of those teachers that genuinely cares about what he teaches. Most of the course code is provided to you and he goes over it in the class lectures. The questions on quizzes/exams are tricky so READ CAREFULLY. Come to class and do a little homework and you should have a rewarding semester.
though professor. Don't let him fool you with his "sense of humor". In fact, you'll soon realize you he is when you need your points that he takes off based on his opinions. DO NOT take his class.
Robinson is an AWFUL PROFESSOR!!!! He is unorganized, forgetful, and a tough grader. He contradicts himself ALOT and his assignments are unclear as hell. He always says to go to the hardware lab for help with his assignments.I personally think assignment instructions should be clear enough to NOT require extra tutoring for clarification. DONT TAKE
Very unorganized, doesn't provide feedback, I took him online, he said any questions about the grade to email him, I emailed him like 5 times and he never replied to any of my emails even though he DID send other emails to the whole class. EXTREMELY picky at grading. I never knew what I got wrong in the exams or quizzes because he never replied.
Buy the book or take great notes in class. He expects you to only use the knowledge you learned in his class on quizes, exams, and HW. So if you give an answer that is correct, but not something he taught, it's marked wrong. Basically, keep your work simple to avoid headaches. Otherwise, he's full of resources and anecdotes.
Great teacher, as well as great man , whenever I needed help with assignment or had a question very understanding. 5 programs 5 quizzes 3 tests. Very manageable if you stay on top of your work. Great videos, would reccommend working in groups this class. Trust me not bad and very do able, you will get through the class just fine and learn a lot.
He isn't a bad professor and he really does give all students every opportunity to pass his class. He gives tons of extra credit and is available 6 days a week outside of class. His class isn't easy but I don't think it should be and I definitely learned a lot in his class. Show up to class and take notes and you will pass.
He has good things to say and doesn't mind explaining things when asked, but most of the time he'll waste class time by rambling on the same stories all the time. Super tough grader. Even if your answer is right(for example you learned it another way) but didn't answer the question the way taught in class, you get points deducted.
I'm IT student. like the way professor teaches. He's clear and simple with explanations. He cares about his students, he want us to learn and learn it well. He prepare us for life. Also, he is the creator of The Hardware Lab, among other things , this is a tutoring center. You can get help for his class there. There are many tutors available.
This Professor goes above and beyond for his students, he is always available if you need any help. It's not an easy A, if you don't do your work you will fall behind.
Professor Robinson is a great professor I took him for CGS4854 and it wasnt difficult you just have to pay attention go to class and put in the work if you get stuck he will help you and he has a lab full of tutors that can help as well. Great professor overall.
Professor Robinson is someone who really cares for his students and he really knows what he is teaching. Other than the class lectures, he really motivates students by giving various knowledge and opportunities in the IT field. I took him for Operating System and Intermediate Java. You will learn a lot from his class. Always ready to help!!
Dr. Robinson is an outstanding professor with over 30 years of experience in Computer Science and Information technology. Many students nowadays expect to pass their classes with little to no effort, which is unfortunate. Robinson will make you earn your grade and you have the potential to learn a lot from him. He is not perfect but you will learn.
I have acquired a large amount of experience , and knowledge from participating in this internship. Professor Robinson is extremely dedicated to the concept of education. He feels a strong sense of responsibility to the students in his classes and he takes their success very personally.
Professor Robinson is the only professor who would go out of his way to get us a chance to experience the world of IT. The IT curriculum is all books and very little hands-on material. The internship was a nice experience and you get to meet a lot of great people including Robinson himself.
Prof. was more than willing to answer any questions and is really interested in making sure students understood topic. Not an easy class but you will learn.
He gave us a chance to work as actual IT equipment and materials during the VIP project and it turned out well. It was very hand-on and took the entire summer but it passed by fast and got a lot of experience out of it.
Professor Robinson is an awesome professor for giving us the opportunity to do this internship. It taught me a lot about IT Construction. If you're an IT major and haven't done an internship yet, I would definitely recommend going to him.
I have an experience with HTML and PHP and I can tell that this is the worth class ever. Lack of response/feedback from Mr Robinson. You have to do the codes as he wants even if they don't make sense. He repeats a lot and don't teach much. All the class is about going to this site copy and paste the code and modify with your fields. not recommended
I suggest not taking this class during the summer as I did because you will need the time to seek help for your programs, although, he did cut us some slack towards the end. He can get off on a tangent during lecture and almost always went over class time but he does have interesting things to say and wants his students to be the best they can be.
Don't be afraid of Robinson. People who don't do well in his class are people that don't want to work for a grade. This is the second class I've taken with Robinson and I've learned a lot from him. He gives you all the tools you need to pass his tests and gives you all code for homework assignments. This is an easy class and you'll learn a lot.
Great opportunity via the VIP program to learn and then put to use skills learned through this program. Professor was enthusiastic about teaching us and taught us real skills not taught in a typical classroom environment. He provided many opportunities to increase skills with hands-on approach. Great program would recommend to others.
I don't know how he's been doing this for so long, but barely has a grasp on organizing himself. Constantly makes mistakes and passes it off as "testing to see who catches them", has ridiculous grading based on doing things his(poorly explained and barely functional) way. Sure, you'll pass the class, but hope he's in a good mood for that "A" or "B"
He barely knows what he's talking about when describing the assignments. Doesn't even really teach you anything. Just talks you through the code on his website and expects you to just memorize it and look up what the commands actually mean. Gets lost easily, makes mistakes constantly, and grades tough on his vague descriptions. Good luck
Dr. Robinson is extremely knowledgeable . I was always amazed by the interest she shows to acquire more knowledge and leverage it in teaching. I have not seen any situation he did not have proper answer whenever I asked any questions regarding Website design .
Would not take again. Encourages students to ask questions but responds with sarcasm. Is not good at wording assignments and is unclear most of the time. Does not teach much in class besides going over his own book.
Tells a lot of unnecessary stories, very sarcastic, his assignment instructions are not clear enough, the way he grades quizzes and assignments is ridiculous and unfair. He tries to find errors to mark you down for. If you care about your grades, take a different professor. Would not take again.
Professor Robinson is a very dedicated professional, he does genuinely care about students, and runs various programs extremely important for the development of future IT professionals. Some assignments definitely were hard, but behind the class you will learn a very valuable lesson, you need to be a proactive self learner to be successful in IT.
Horrible in communicating with students. I've had friends who didnt get their assignments graded until the end of the semester after having to talk to the Dean. Does not teach well, gives students the code and basically asks you to copy and paste it into your program, which you need to learn for the exams.
His instructions on hw assignments and quizzes are usually unclear. He is often sarcastic and/or demeans students, even though he complains when no one asks questions. He's not clear about how he grades assignments and you will constantly have to argue for your grade. Take really good notes in class because what he says can contradict the book
He does have unclear instructions and he does repeat himself alot but if you talk to him he will help you out. Hes nice and he cares about his students in my experience. His test are easy if you buy his book all the answers are there. His final is multiple choice and fill in the blank. Its not that bad.
A good professor, just too old, forgets what he talked about before, so some classes feel like a dejavu. The bad thing he treats students like they already taken his class. He make his instructions clear for IT's, and treats a class like we all already IT's. This prof is for you if you worked as IT before. I have not bought his book, don't miss cla
This professor finds joy in demeaning and making fun of students, for some reason he loves being sarcastic and responding to simple student questions like a smart aleck. I love IT but he tries to make you hate it. This is one of the worst teachers at FIU, I wish I could take another professor but are no other professors that teach this class.
A great professor that prepares you for the real world. Assignments are given to you as a client would. Skills gained in this course will be applicable for the rest of life. A++
He has a Hardware Lab that has a student named Limaris Torres, she does not even have a degree, teaches security and is co-owner. She is NOT a hacker. Robinson is just promoting cybersecurity when he has no knowledge, so he can grants. Give the Hardware lab to a more productive Professor that teachers Modern things in the real world.
He isn't terrible but his teachings need to be geared towards the industry if the information is not in his lecture then it is incorrect. This class is very singular and grants no creativity in terms of learning the curriculum. Also be wary do not fall into the trap of his security lab. He needs to bring in actual professionals that know security
Worst professor I have ever taken in my college career & it is not even close (this is my 2nd degree). Vague instructions but strict grading. Teaches out-of-date code & frowned upon practices. His lectures are him reading code verbatim w/o going into detail or explanations. Schedules things randomly a week b4 due for online classes. Horrible.
He is not tough per se but just don't expect to learn anything. He teaches all from his own code, which is littered with errors. I could've learned something if he assigned a textbook but he does not. That's good for your wallet but bad for your education. His instructions are terrible, make sure you email him for clarification or lose points.
As many have stated, the class itself isn't that hard. Will you learn? No. He teaches his version of web design from maybe 1995. This class has the potential to be fun but instead your spending most of your time trying to understand his vague tricky instructions. He doesn't teach, he just goes over old code that is usually full of errors. Just run.
Lectures take some time to get use to because pacing is very slow. Programs are very dated.
The Hardware Lab needs to be taken away from Professor Robinson. He wants to promote cyber security but he lacks the knowledge. He hires entry level position professionals like Limaris Torres to teach cyber security while she brags about being a hacker. Professor Robinson just wants government grants for his "security" class at the Hardware Lab.
If you care about your grade, do not take it with this professor. Professor is the worst professor I've taken. I love computer science, but he makes you hate it! Previous students comments below are true! Outdated codes, basically tells you to copy and paste, and then expects you to memorize his old code! Horrible Professor! Lacks knowledge!
Worst professor I have ever had in my life. Encourages students to ask questions but responds with sarcasm.
It's incredible how bad this teacher really is. He basically just shows you his old code that looks like it was written in the 90s and filled with errors, expects you to learn given no explanation, tells you to copy and paste for assignments but expects you to learn the code word for word for quizzes and exams, I can go on and on, he isnt funny
Doesn't explain code used for HW and Tests well enough, he tell you to copy & paste for homework but never breaks it down and TEACHES it to students. When he does ask for volunteers he only focuses on the alignment and presentation of our code but never the actual code and why it isn't working or what we're doing wrong, he doesn't teach us anything
I took this professor 2 years ago for intermediate Java, Computer OS and Website construction and Management. He is very organized and knowledgeable about the topics. He cares about his students. He is very inspirational, but you have to study. Like any other class, you have to do research additionally. I would only tell you two things:Take him!
He's not a bad guy, but the course can be frustrating for a few reasons. A LOT of miscommunication. Test questions are tricky and multiple times found myself confused as the question was never covered during lectures or in the textbook. Homework questions are left up to interpretation, so if you don't do it how he expects it, you're 100% wrong.
Prof Robinson is a great Professor! The class is pretty easy and simple! You need to understand the code and be ready to write it down on quizzes and exams. Make sure that you read the assignments and programs carefully. If you do so this class will be an easy A . You will do some work in webpages, but at the end is worth it. Amazing Professor!
He isn't the worst professor, however, I don't think I learned much. It was mostly copying his outdated codes which were a bunch of errors that you had to find on your own. His lecture videos were mostly reading his code line by line. This was more of a HTML troubleshooting class. Be sure to memorize his codes for the exams. Not too hard.
Just read the book and write down everything he says in his lecture. I would suggest to learn the linux commands first which are in his book. Also, he doesn't give study guides for the exams or quizzes. He'll say the quizzes will be on the programming assignments, but sometimes they weren't. Make sure you read his book!!!
He doesn't even grade the exams ,quizzes, or programming assignments. He has "helpers" to do it for him. He has multiple OS classes so what he does is give you a question another class went over. Final exam has some multiple choice and is easy because it covers the previous exams plus some new material. READ THE BOOK!!!!!
Literally just quizzes you from what's in the book. Regardless of what he teaches you in class he's going to quiz you based off of whats in the book. i.e. his quizzes are more of a "definition" kind of test than testing you based off of the programming assignments or lectures.
Horrible teacher!!! Stay as far away from this teacher as possible. He wrote the book assigned to the class just so he could milk as much money as possible. Quiz questions are from his book and some arn't even mentioned in lectures beforehand. Students always correct his lectures in class due to his constant misinformation!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! He designs the class so that youre forced to buy his overpriced book. Picky with answers, can get points marked off just for not wording it how he wants even if its correct. Graders misgrade a lot of papers. Digresses a lot, wastes class time. Test material is random and covers some stuff not in lectures.
AVOID! First, the material he teaches you is outdated and useless in the real world. Second, he half teaches you the material. It's mostly copy and paste while changing a thing or two. He never truly breaks down the code for you, so you don't really learn anything. This makes the tests a nightmare. Be prepared to be on your own and teach yourself!
Robinson was a good professor. Occasionally assignments were unclear, like there would be an error he would just expect you to mark as an error without mentioning anything. Otherwise, I find that he is SUPER accessible outside of class and willing to help. You might be tempted to not show up, but GO TO EVERY CLASS. Every word could be on quiz/exam.
5-6 Programs and Tests, 2 exams and a final... Let's just say i am happy i at least passed. The constant misinformation is true, he mixes up the questions on quizzes when you havent even gone over the material. Take very good notes, get the book. He is a nice man but you will get lost in between him trying to lecture and talk about internships
He is honestly not a very good professor. "If it's not in his lecture its incorrect." Honestly I don't think he is the worst professor at FIU, but he is definitely making a case for it. While I was at FIU he did have his favorite students, who usually worked in the hardware lab that he believed were "top Tier talent." Too funny man too funny!
Get ready for conflicting lectures, bad grading, and tests written in broken English. Here's my advice. LITERALLY RECORD HIM LECTURING!!! Listen to every word he says and be ready to use it for ammunition for the argument you're going to have with him about your test grades! His tests literally look like he writes them on notepad before class.
PLZ DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE IS A GOOD PERSON BUT A HORRIBLE TEACHER, ESPECIALLY NOT HIS ONLINE CLASSES. HIS TESTS ARE DIFFICULT AND CONFUSING. ALSO NO MULTIPLE CHOICE WHICH IS SORT OF HARD WHEN YOU ARE WORKING WITH LANGUAGES SUCH AS PHP AND CSS. DO NOT RECOMMEND
This is coming from a guy who wants to appreciate this class and the professor but I genuinely can't. Lectures are painfully uninteresting and dull. It's him displaying his code while sprinkling in some stories but otherwise no "teaching" is occurring. The exams are multiple-choice but they're deliberately tricky! Please, take someone else!!!!
I honestly don't recommend this guy to nobody, specially students that are new in the IT majors. He's assignments are extremely tough, he doesn't explain well, he gets off the topic very easily. He's jokes are pathetic too. stay away from this guy
Avoid this professor , as many people previously mentioned hes a tough grader and his assignments are extremely rough they are 1000% right!!!! If you are new in this field and really trying to learn OS dont take it with him. Hes a total mess , class never starts on time and he wants you to stay after class time ends. Never replies to emails
Bad teacher, bad class, simple as that. The course material covers IT fundamentals. All classes hand out the same tests and assignments, except Robinson. You could find an A+ course online that would cover the material more effectively than him. He's a poor speaker and lecturer. He's also old, and is now out of touch with IT. A waste of money.
Terrible. Avoid at all cost. Good person but terrible professor
Get ready to fail! his videos are just look at this copy and paste this blah hes horrible dont take him if you dont have too
Literally the worst professor at FIU. So bad, I felt the need to come back 6 years later to review. I took him for the most important class in Comp Sci, Data Structures. I didn't learn crap. I had to teach myself everything. His lectures are copy/paste. He contradicts himself. I would do stuff correctly but he would mark down cus it wasn't his way.
Stay away from this guy, He does not know how to teach. He never answer emails, Never wants to help. I passed because of the people i worked with. But otherwise this classes with this man it's insane. Worst Professor that i ever had. I had tough professors in the past but nothing like robinson, Ridiculous !!! FTN
He definitely had knowledge in the field, but most of it is outdated or not done anymore. When you ask him a question in class, he refers you to his office hours instead of answering that question which should take less than 2 minutes. Very unorganized, forgetful, and bad communication. Only take if you have to.
He may be your only option for this course but it doesn't make him any good to be honest. He is a very nitpicky grader and his quizzes are very confusing and poorly written. He also does not provide much feedback and is pretty bad with emails. Most of the code taught is fairly outdated. The course is overall pretty easy though, so it's not terrible
Would give a 0 if possible. This is hands down the worst professor at FIU. His teaching methods are outdated, website's from the stone age, and grading criteria is an absolute nightmare. Listen to what the low raters are saying because it's all true. If you have other options, take them. Don't settle for this torturous class.
Has programming assignments with poorly-made instructions that don't explain much. The class material he makes us use is outdated and have no practical use. Gives no description as to what to study in his proctored exams. Even started class 3 weeks late with no excuse! Avoid this uncaring "professor" and listen to all recent negative reviews.
He takes forever to respond to emails, and when he does, he's rude. His instructions aren't clear, typos and errors everywhere even marked correct answers wrong in exams. It took him TWO WEEKS to start the course, meaning we couldn't cover all of the outdated material he said we would. Doesn't provide good feedback. He just doesn't seem to care.
This class is the WORST!! AVOID at all costs. Be prepared to memorize obsolete code that won't even correlate to your career. His exams are filled with grammatical errors. Let's not even get started on the programs that are given, his explanations are never in-depth leaving you extremely confused on how to proceed. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS I beg you!!
He is never prepared so be ready for the first month to be radio silence from him
This professor shows very little interest for students. Worst professor Ive ever had. His class is very unorganized. His tests are FULL of grammatical errors to the point where some questions are ambiguous and confusing. He makes you buy the book that he wrote himself for 90(!!!) $ which is full of grammatical errors and terrible composition.
My god Ive never had a professor like this. 1) he basically ghosted us for the 1st month of class and popped up with no explanation 2) none of his assignments were posted on time 3) errors and ambiguity in his tests and assignments 4) condescending and not helpful when you email him. I could go on but not enough space. Save yourself and run
Robinson is OK. He gives programs which are usually due within a week or so and he has 3 exams and a midterm/final that are all proctored via ProctorU or Honorlock. He doesnt use Canvas grading and you have to count the points you have and look at his grading scale to see where you are at. He also requires you to buy his book which I recommend.
Honestly, the class and exams aren't that hard. But the professor just seems lost. He's knowledgeable but really doesn't know how to teach. He's always late to post assignments and create tests. Due to how slow he is he's always pushing back assignments and tests so that's a plus If you call him out on something he jumps to being defensive.
Not very clear in his instructions. Always goes off topic. Doesnt speak very clearly. His book has grammatical errors and its required so good luck with that.
First course I don't receive an A on and that says a lot coming from a junior. This professor knows a lot about the subject but gets so distracted during lectures you never gain much from them. The instructions for each assignment are difficult to understand and one simple mistake can lose you half the points. No extra credit
Worse programming professor ever. I'm still in shock that FIU has so few options for programming professors. This is guy is unfortunately the only option for a lot of programming courses. He is horrible, doesn't teach at all, uploads a few videos a month from like 2006, extremely picky grader. Oh btw, if you're new to coding, good luck he wont care
If you are a beginner in coding don't take his class even if you need the credit. The professor does not know how to teach, would give zeros if a program does not compile and if you're late to turn in assignments despite constantly being late on his own part. Doesn't have actual classes. Even students with A's say to not to take him!
I learned nothing in this course, I got a perfect score because I already knew Java. This professor is very hard to work with. He is dismissive, and defensive when it comes to students' concerns and small mistakes they have made due to his inability to provide clear instructions. Attendance may as well be mandatory. You won't hear the end of it.
Avoid taking this professor!!!! He is one of the pickiest graders in the world. The questions on his exams have wrong answers. And when you bring it up to him he doesnt correct his mistakes. You have to buy a book that he wrote himself with grammatical errors, outdated topics, and wrong information. You will not learn anything in his class.
He does not have a clear grading criteria and takes points off everything. He will also not provide good feedback on the programs you turn in. He does not teach anything in the lectures instead goes on tangents. He does not give extra credit so do not even ask. He is not afraid of failing all his students. You will get PTSD from taking his class.
Although not impossible to pass with a good grade, Professor Robinson is a very tough grader who will deduct an unreasonable amount of points for little mistakes in assignments. Tests are pretty easy if you study hard for them. Overall just avoid this professor if you can because he is quite condescending if you have an issue with an assignment.
I would give him a zero but thats not possible so I give him a one. He takes off points for everything on his programming projects. The class has four programming projects worth 10 points each. But it is almost impossible to get 10. And three exams worth 20 points each. If you get a good grade on anything he will say you cheated. He is also rude!
WARNING!!! Do not take this professor for operating systems under any circumstances. He punishes the whole class for the mistakes of the few and takes points off for the littlest things. Dont get me wrong he is a very nice person, but has little mercy for his students.
Grades inconsistently. Four programs 40%, two exams and a final 60%. The tests are freebies, he just recycles questions from previous tests. ONLY reason the class is hard is because his instructions are AWFUL. Ask him for clarity and you end up more confused. Rounds your grade up 1% and offers extra credit. I recommend his textbook.
Prof Robinson is OK, but the way he grades his programming is not ideal. Makes you use terminal instead of using an IDE which can help you in a long run. You have to follow his EXACT instructions to the dot, or else he deducts points heavily. There are 4 programs, and proctored; 2 Exams, and 1 Final. Make sure to use printf and NOT println/print.
This prof does not care about his students. He may give you videos to assist with each program but they are not very helpful to trying to understand his directions or what he expects from you. Extremely tough grader and barely teaches anything for the course. Basically if you want to decipher his puzzles take his class otherwise, stay away.
He confuses himself with his own instructions and refuses to clarify. If you can decipher his dogshit program instructions you can pass. Btw the coding techniques you learn in this class are simply wrong and stupid to do. This class is not quality education whatsoever, just get the class over with and move on with your life.
This professor teaches you outdated and frankly barely anything in relation to computer os. The most of what you learn is coding terminal in ubuntu. In addition his instructions are infamously unclear and he will often over explain when you ask him to clarify leading TO more confusion, his tutors are arrogant and unhelpful, overall. DO NOT TAKE
Michael Robinson is a good guy, but a tough professor. I met with him over any concerns during his office hours, and he helped me. I met with one of his tutors for every assignment and exam question. His exams are tricky, so keep after the professor.
Professor Robinson was great for java. I learned a-lot about java and how to use it for programming. That being said, he's kind of a tough grader because he takes points off for things that don't really matter since the program works well and no one will care if you're using this for a job. Overall great professor, but very picky grader.
Professor Robinson knows his stuff when it comes to building websites from the grown up. However, he is still very picky when it comes to his online assignments. It is kind of fun because he lets you build your website on whatever you want, but still very picky about it. In my opinion his exams were a-lot harder than the assignments.
When it comes to hardware and cybersecurity professor Robinson knows his stuff. I built my first computer in this class and received credit for it. This class should be a core class for I.T majors since there are a lot of hands- on projects. If you're going to take this class, take it in the fall or spring sense the summer goes by really fast.
I'll keep it short and sweet. I've taken Professor Robinson for 2 java classes and now Web construction. Just don't take him. He takes 20% of your program grades for small things like having 5 spaces instead of 3. The videos he provides do little to no help. Lastly, he prohibits online learning, so the code you submit must be the way he wants it.
The class itself is easy and there's not a lot you have to keep up with, but you have to find your own resources to learn because his video lectures don't actually explain anything about programming in C. Make sure to turn everything in, he is not lenient at all.
If you do not understand how to do his assignments, his tutors in the hardware lab literally take you step by step through each assignment to understand it. They also guide you to how he wants his assignments done so you will get minimal points taken off. He not only has to tools to help you in your current situation, but in the future as well :)
Honestly save yourself the time and effort and don't take classes with him. Super strict doesn't teach anything about what the actual course is about. One of those teachers that get PHDs to do things their way when the world could care less about it. Unless you. have time to be at the tutors all week don't take it
100 percent worst professor ive had and i graduate in 1 year
Heard he deletes reviews, which he did so i am posting again, and will continuously do if they keep deleting. This professor is a waste of ur time. Programs are in java, done in ubuntu. U learn nothing useful. He grades hard & takes points off if it is not in his *exact* format. Videos give u 0 help. He doesnt answer emails, tell u to go to tutors.
The entry level professor from hell if you have never coding before do not take this class he does not go into depth about the material and I hope you have 8 hours extra a week for tutoring because that the only way you will pass good luck u have been warned
This professor has worse memory than Dory. His tests are full of typos which isn't really the best when it comes to CODING. I don't understand how a man can be at a school for so long yet have the more unperfected test to be seen. There's a reason why the good reviews are old; this man needs to retire.
Terrible professor. I will never take again. Apparently tutors help but i was never able to get in touch with them. I asked multiple times for help on that. The videos and his online structures contradict themselves. Dont bother asking for help. He finally emailed me back once the semester had ended. Dont bother at ALL
He did not care about legit excuses i had for not being able to complete program projects. Personal life stuff happened, says he used some faulty tool he created that shows your online activity ONLY for Canvas, i used his website, did not cover his website which says in the syllabus you can use! Stopped caring about that class after the 3rd week.
This guy deletes reviews. DO NOT TAKE HIM. HES THE WORST PROFESSOR AT FIU. Please avoid at all cost. Almost failed over super small issues in my work. He will give you a 0 for no reason. Over 5 people put a complaint on him during the semester. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST
He hands out 0s on assignments like its nothing and 1 zero on an assignment will tank your grade. He will remove points for the smallest issues. Its impossible to get an A+ in this class. His tests also have wrong answers on them LOL, and he has it marked as the "correct" answer. He doesn't care about his class and does what he wants, be careful!
The average grade for one assignment ended up being a 2.8/10 for the entire class. This should let you know everything.
He's old school so students who are used to skating by using IDE's and AI for all their programming courses, you're in for a rude awakening. He's very particular but you actually learn what every aspect of the syn
He gets a bad rep but he really cares about the students and offers tons of extra credit opportunities, is always letting everyone know of different internship and job opportunities, is very responsive by email or office hours and even created a tutoring lab with former students to help you with the assignments and gives extra credit for going.
Does not teach in class; very boring class. Tough grader, not understanding. My program saved wrong and still gave me a 0 after I explained that I did not know what happened. I even offered to stay after class to explain my program. I got a high score on his test to prove that I was not a bad student, but he just did not care.
Have taken 2 of Robinson's classes and hes an honest professor who wants people to succeed. Material is not hard to follow but he is quite particular. His instructions can sometimes be unclear since he uses his own website. Attendance is mandatory but if you are not showing up to class you probably aren't ready for IT or Cybersecurity.
Do not take this professor. 2 week response time to emails and expect rude responses if any, homework instructions are unclear and he will take points for anything, and he will accuse people of cheating regularly. Had to take him through the entire grievance process after receiving 0s for work turned in. Won the case, but again, DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Absolute worst professor I have ever encountered in my life. He has countless complaints put on him every week. He retaliated on one of my classmates last semester and gave him 0s for most of his assignments. I received 2 0s for forgetting to add 1 thing. I barely came out on top. This guy needs to be fired.
4 projects, and 3 exams. If you go to the tutoring lab, you will pass the projects, but they take long, so don't procrastinate. Exams aren't too bad as you can find quizlets for them, plus he reuses questions from previous exams throughout the semester. Plenty of extra credit chances, and cares about his students. Put in the work and you'll do fine
Professor Robinson is great. The professor gives you enough time to complete assignments. Extra credit is provided in multiple things. Tutoring is available physical and online. The class is easy as long as you focus and don't procastinate in the programs. Yes he is a tough grader but you will actually learn how to code.Just take his class.
This professor is really nice you until it comes down to grading, and you wanna pray he grades your homework. If he lets another student grade your homework highest grade you'll get is a 6.7. He deduct absurd things like new lines in a code.If you wanna make your code seem more organized the grader will deduct points for that too.
He's very disorganized in terms of his exams. Doesn't even know what exact topics are covered in his exams, because they are all over the place. Strict grader. He will take points off over anything.
Messy summer semester, four programs and three exams, programs are easy if you go to the tutoring labs but they do take time, gives good amount of extra credit, gives good feedback on programs, exams are very easy and reused questions too, don't procrastinate on the programs and go to the tutoring labs and you'll pass easily
He's so old school it borders on completely outdated. He's extremely picky with how he wants his assignments to be done, at least he does the assignments in class. There are a ton of quizlets to study for tests allowing you to get a near perfect score on the exams. While he isn't a bad person, it's just time for him to retire. He also yaps a lot.
Michael Robinson isn't the greatest professor but he also isn't the worst professor either. He is very respectable and is very nice and caring (to me at least). His class isn't hard but be prepared to be taught outdated materials. He is easily accessible outside of class. Test is not hard neither is the assignments.
