he is too smart to be teaching lower level math classes, and you can tell its hard for him, but he is always helpful and does stuff to boost your grades in the end
Absoulty the worst class. He is to smart to communicate to his students. Does not explain well.
He is a professor that refuses to clarify the material no matter how many students may ask him. By far, this is the hardest math class I have ever taken...we call him Dr. Math Computer.
I had him for what was described as a "math for people who aren't comfotable with math". It was hard and boring and he is just to smart to convey his ideas to peopple who have a promblem with math.
Ridiculous.
Absolutely, not worth taking his class. He is just boring and don't know how to teach.
his class was a jigsaw puzzle with missing pieces, I tried to connect his thoughts andlecture to make an overall picture but it was impossible.
Everyone says he's impossible, but I think he's an AWESOME teacher who really cares. People who fail are just lazy.
I learned more from this man faster than I ever thought possible.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! I AM JEALOUS OF FUTURE GENERATIONS OF MATH STUDENTS BECAUSE THEY WILL GROW UP IN A WORLD FREE OF DR. ROGERS!
a pretty good teacher, but his thoughts can be disjointed and therefore difficult to follow. if you're determined to put in the effort to do well and he knows it, he'll be more than willing to help you out with any problems...just dont let him know you're not interested in his class
Had I not had calculus, and done very well in it, prior to coming to oxford i would have completely failed this class. he makes things alot harder than they have to be and can't seem to put the concepts into words that people who aren't good with math can understand.
His classes are difficult, and I had to self-teach most of the time.
not very clear in explaining the material.. it is mostly self-teaching.. he is a nice person but a terrible teacher. i would not recommend any of his classes.
Worst professor in my life, I took both him and his wife, and i did bad in both of their Math classes. I tests are completly weird...often times, it's totally different that what you study in class. I would highly recommend not to take him, however, he is the only professor for higher level couses.

He is one of the worst teachers I've ever seen. His methods of teaching are unclear and make it seem a lot harder than the material really is. Don't bother with this guy...find better ways to waste an hour of your day...
Rogers may be a little different, but pure mathematics (reading Aristotle and Euclid, writing papers, doing proofs), is a good math GER. The work isn't easy (I got a B), but it sure beats calculus.
He is a damn naturalist, and stinks for the most part in class. His class was the worst class i have ever took. Tests have nothing to do with what was studied in class. I took both Rogers, as i was left with no choice, and they both simply sucks. In general Math dept. sucks at OX. Smith and Ryner were the only great professor as they could teach...
I've heard he's bad for calc, but for theory-based classes he's really, really amazing. Like, I'm an Eng major and could follow him fine. Crazy brilliant.
Don't even bother asking him a question (if you can even find him; we think he hides from us). He just gives you a look that suggests that you are wasting his time then gives you some vague "answer."
He seems to be happier if you fail. He dose not know how to teach, does not answer questions. Winner of "The worst of the worst" award.
I'm terrible at math and I think he's an ok teacher. I would recommend taking the class during the year instead of the summer (i took it over the summer) so that you can spend more time with everything. He's not as bad as people will make him out to be. His tests were short and relatively simple.
Rarely does a student get an A in his class...enough said
Does not know how to teach, how to explain, and is oblivious to what problems his class has.
Eh, he's a very smart man. He is, however, a very horrid professor. He can answer all your problems without really answering your associated questions. He confuses you and gets you ready to confuse yourself when you try self-teaching. idk, smart man, sucky teacher. I hated him.
Cannot teach. Grades harshly. Does not care at all about the students in his class.
Dr. Rogers is my favorite professor on campus!! I have him for Math 211 and 250. He is REALLY APPROACHABLE, and he has a great personality. He likes to say hi and have conversation with students. Also, he is EXTREMELY SMART. People don't like him because sometimes it's hard to follow him on class. But it's really helpful to ask him after class.
He cant teach, and he doesn't try to help you if you are not doing well. RUN AWAY!
He's a genius, but cannot teach to save his life. Relatively nice guy outside of class. However, you will often feel helpless in this class, because there is no way to get help, and the book is terrible. His problem sets will shave years off your life. The upside he is not a super harsh grader like some of the other profs.
He's incredibly smart. Hard to communicate with him, but he's not unreasonable. Work hard.
Terrible, terrible, terrible. I struggled in this class, the book doesn't help neither does the examples; always making mistakes, but super helpful when u ask go to office hours better than dr conciceao. He wants u to succeed Tries to make jokes but doesnt really
He was a really nice guy, but it takes time to get used to his teachings and tests.I got a really bad grade on my first exam, but just do his reviews and it totally helps. (I didn't do the review for the first test!)I guarantee that ur grade is gonna be really bad at first, but it's definitely gonna be a positive slope going up.Just don't give up!!
He took over our class after Dr. Chen left. Granted, when Dr. Chen was still here, the grades were pretty bad, but the whole class knew that she was intending on curving up at the end. Dr. Rogers however did no such thing. His final was impossible, and 3/11 students failed the course. My first B in a math class in years, and I've taken all the 200'
He is extremely smart and nice!! I love him! And I notice that people who complain are always from the lower level classes, and sorry guys.. he loves challenge and those "fun problems" may freak you out but ! if you really want to do math, take his class!
Very nice guy and very helpful, but he moves very quickly in class. In order to get an A you need to spend 2 hours every day and go to his office hours. He is really nice and is always wanting to help.
Dropped his class two months into the semester. He is never clear on topics and he constantly takes points off from tests for "style". At times it is hard to understand him because he mumbles and he does not answer questions fully. Do not take his class or consider going straight into Calculus.
The class is relatively hard, but Dr. Rogers is very helpful and understanding. Don't be discouraged by low test scores, just be sure to make use of his office hours. If you put in the effort, he'll curve your grade substantially at the end.
His class seems IMPOSSIBLE but if you reeeally try by doing HW he'll do fine. He puts the really hard hw problems on the tests...his final was nearly impossible though lol. I ended up with a B-, my friends got between A- and B+, he's a really nice guy and wants to help you. Go to his office hours and put in the work!
First I'd like to start by saying Dr. Rogers is a genius. He literally knows everything about everything. Stats with him was super easy. He was very clear about what he wanted us to know and what he didn't. The typed notes he put on the blog were extremely helpful and essentially were the test. If you have an option, take him.
Absolutely horrible teacher, I am angry I didn't check here before I took him for stats. One he isn't even a stat teacher so he uses other teachers work, he constantly is getting things wrong in class, won't respond to any emails and is usually talking to one he likes during office hours. AVOID THIS MANS CLASSES
I like him as a person but I do not like him as a teacher. He is just too smart to teach.
Reasonable tests if you do the homework. Just do the homework and you'll be fine. He's a math wiz, if you love math more than just memorizing steps, you'll love the class.
Dr. Rogers is an awesome teacher/person. He is fair but if you come in and ask questions, he will see that you're putting in the efforts and will help your grade at the end. He was such an inspiration to me. Just make sure you keep up(do well on quizzes) and the tests wont be too hard. Don't me intimidated by him either! He is willing to help you.
God-awful professor. Not helpful at all. Avoid his classes.
interesting
He is REALLY smart and know a lot things about physics and computer. I learnt the course material almost all by myself, but he actually taught me a lot about methodology and a way to think about mathematics. Also he is really nice to his students and very accessible.
Dr. Rogers is an amazing teacher! Though you almost learn nothing from his class and have to do many reading after class, you definitely can learn methodology. He has strong interests in both math and Physics. If you can't understand what he said, don't worry, cuz others have the same feeling... I promise you... Overall, he is nice and patient!
Dr. Rogers was the absolute BEST professor I have ever taken. I actually had him for 4 semesters. He is a genius and only wants his students to thrive! If it weren't for him, I would have never become a math major! He's a life changer and the absolute best professor you could ever have!
I love Rogers. Nothing better than Rogers' s class! I love calculus 112!!! His smile is full of sunshine of wisdom.
Dr. Rogers is a tough professor, but one of the best I've had in college. If you show him that you pay attention in class and visit his office hours, he will grade your tests much easier than the rest of the class. He is kind, hilarious, and one of the smartest people I have ever met. DO NOT take him if you aren't a hard worker.
Good professor. Willing to help you outside of the class. He is nearly always there when you need his help.
You gotta go to lecture if you have any hope of surviving this course. There are online resources to help you out if you need, but for pretty much all of the concepts I had a tough time with, I understood them a lot better once I saw Dr. Rogers approach them in class. Tests are really hard, but he'll give you problem sets so you know what to expect
He wants to help his students, he's just really awkward. You have to go to him if you want help, and he is VERY understanding when you don't get it. He goes quickly in class but will slow down if asked. When you get help from him, he is good about explaining and walking through the problem. ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT.
This review may be a little late (20 years late to be exact), but he is one of the handful of math profs that I still remember, in a good way. He is a major reason why I have my PhD today. I remember his course to be one of the most challenging, especially homework problems. But that was part of the fun. Great prof. Awesome volleyball player.
One of the worst professors Ive ever had. Doesnt explain material, moves EXTREMELY fast, veryyy harsh grader, so awkward, and is terrible at answering questions. Very condescending, makes you feel stupid. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Especially not with him.
For me, Dr. Rogers is definitely not a good professor mainly because his teaching style. In his classes, he will not make connections between what youve learnt. Meanwhile, easy things can be delivered in a way that is really hard to understand. Self-teaching is the major way how I learnt. Sorry to say that he ended my desire to go for math.
He is a really great professor! He is willing and ready to help his students. The class is challenging, but you can learn a lot. You definitely need to put a lot of effort in.
To make it simple, Dr. Rogers is not good at teaching. He understands calc VERY well. However, he's awful at explaining what's in his brain to students. The problem sets were 10x harder than what we did in class and the tests were 100x harder than the problem sets, you do the math. Take anyone other than Rogers. Please, for your sanity.
I took AP Calc in High School without taking the AP exam so I decided to take calc again in college. Worst choice... at least with Dr. Rogers. He's very intelligent but he doesn't teach well at all, only talks and writes on the board as if he is showcasing his ability to do Calculus proficiently. You need to teach yourself to pass.
I dropped the class. Half the students dropped the class. I took both AP calculus AB and BC in highschool, yet this class was much harder. Dr. Rogers knows what he is doing, however, his teaching style doesn't work for means he doesn't explain how he does things. The problem sets (HW) are so hard, and the tests are even harder. quizzes every mon.
My class started with 30 people, but now its down to either 9 or 10 ppl. Dont take if you have no calc experience/did poorly in hs calc. Once you figure out the patterns of the tests, it is passable, but you have to work extremily hard for a decent grade. They r adding extra homeworks bc the class average for the first exam was in the 50s.
The class started with 25 and now there are 7 left. After the second test of the semester I went to him to see if he give some sort of remediation like he did for the first test and he lectured me for 30 min on how terrible of a student I was and if I was smarter and more capable this wouldn't be a problem, I had an 85. I cried.
I had a decent time taking 250 and I learned a lot. He is a qualified professor and can explain math, although his class content and homework is challenging (he knows!). He can seem cold but is a good and responsible person. Tests are manageable and he gives you A if you put in the effort. Would recommend him as long as you are willing to learn
Intro to Pure Math DSC - more difficult content than anticipated, with constant reading and essays to boot (tip: office hours!). However, it was a super insightful course - and getting to know Rogers was interesting. He's very smart and has a tendency to talk over students' heads, but he's a helpful advisor with great passion for his work.
Professor Rogers is a very engaging lecturer - he explains things in a way that makes me want to learn more. The material he covered in this class was quite challenging - expect to initially not understand a lot of what is going on. To account for this, he makes himself very accessible outside of class, and always slows down when prompted
NICE GUY BUT THE CLASS IS HARD BUT I GOT AN A BECAUSE IM SMART PERIOD.
Dr. Rogers is a fantastic professor who doesn't get enough credit. He is so intelligent and so kind. This class was so difficult but he made sure I understood what was going on. He cares so much for his students. He is also a staple in the Math Center and will always provide extra help when he can.
Dr. Rogers was my favorite professor this semester. He is the sweetest person ever and is always available to help during office hours and after class. His class was amazing and even if the material was sometimes difficult to understand he did his best to help us understand. He made me re-learn my love of math and is such a great person.
This class is very hard. His quizzes and tests have material not covered in his lectures or textbook. We had two tests in a single week. Two different formats. It was a living nightmare. The quizzes are absurdly difficult. The tests are graded harshly. He doesn't use canvas so you have to guess your grade. He doesn't grade quickly or efficiently.
The grading process in for the class is fast, but it is fine because he grades the tests very carefully. This course includes a lot of geometry so it would be really hard for most people. The tests are reasonable, yes, I would say they are reasonable! The lecture is somewhat uncomfortable, it is 3 times a week. Take this course if you are good.
The course is hard as f, but the format is so good, homework and attendance aren't mandatory, you can basically skip lectures and just take the test. However, his problem set is really hard, by that, I mean it's crazy! I worked by mysel,it was a horrible experience. Some of my classmates worked together(he allows it). The test is hard.
He's a nice guy even though the course was super difficult, even though low grades were dropped. Guess you have to work extra hard to get a good grade . I just didn't work hard
I had Dr. Rogers for two courses this semester and (DSC&211) and they were by far my hardest courses. The grades for 211 focus around tests and some quizzes which Dr. Rogers is really fair about giving partial credit. His lectures are hard to follow & grasp, so read beforehand! He's a really nice person, but expect this to be your hardest class.
Be prepared to teach yourself the material outside of class. Ungraded HW, weekly quizzes, 3 exams, 1 final. He's nice so he gives lots of extra points/ curves. Study in groups. Otherwise, Dr. Rogers is a really nice guy and willing to help you outside of class!
The tests are very challenging but it is possible to do well on them. He doesn't explain concepts very well in my opinion, and he is looking for very specific answers and explanations on exams. Be prepared to study A LOT for exams to do well, and use your resources (SI sessions and math center).
I don't think this guy understands what he says during lectures. About two quizs per week, even not a little relevant to what he taught. Drop the class as fast as you can
Cant learn from his lectures, quiz is unpredictable, and the exams are extremely hard. Proofs in the exam are so hard and confusing. I have to learn the course mostly by myself from the textbook. Its hard to learn even with a decent understanding of math. Think carefully when enroll the course Math 221. He also made lots of mistakes in the lecture.
Worst prof I have ever had. I had to learn the entire content on youtube because his lectures are so hard to follow and he assumes you are always following, even though I always sat in front and took notes. Tests are insanely difficult and no curve ever, and every other kid I talked to made it P/NP. No curve on grades, so many kids getting C, D, F.
Although I generally dislike math, I genuinely enjoyed Dr. Rogers's class. His explanations were always clear and tests were much easier than his lectures. Getting an A or A- in the class is definitely not hard as long as you attend the SI sessions. Dr. Rogers is one of the kindest professors I've had. Ignore the negative reviews.
I was nervous taking this class because of the negative reviews, but Dr. Rogers is the best. His lectures are well organized, entertaining, and he explains concepts clearly. The tests are straightforward. Doing well in this class is super easy as long as you do the work and attend the SI sessions. I am now a math major because of him.
Confusing lectures, mostly incoherent and rambling. Will frequently stop speaking mid-sentence and mumble incoherently. However, he is really sweet and does his best to answer questions. Tests are out of left field, but the quizzes are straightforward, and as long as you remember to do curiosity questions, you have a solid grade foundation.
