Professor Rutenberg is a passionate and knowledgable individual who offers his students as much help as needed. He is caring and kind and has greatly changed my feelings about theatre for the better. I feel he discusses his experiences to give insight. A bit of an ego, that doesnt make him a bad teacher or confidant. He does ramble a little, though

Dr. Rutenberg's experience as a working director dwarfs that of his colleagues. Although we discussed textbook readings in class, his approach is hands on, which is the only way to learn directing. Perfect. My playwriting skills have evolved quite a bit. I got an A+, but that was only done by listening and taking note of exactly what works and what does not as he critiques. He is brilliant, helpful, and has a lot of wisdom. No required text; attendance& punctuality is a must. Go to every class and pay attention, you'll learn a lot from him.

I had a great experience in Professor Rutenberg's class. He gives each student extensive attention and valuable feedback on their work. He genuinely cares about each of his students. The assignments are interesting and are designed to push you. I left this class with a lot more confidence and enthusiasm toward acting.

Loved this man. His play writing course was conducted in a casual, friendly atmosphere where everyone listened and responded to their classmates work, in addition to reading it. Old fashioned, but that's not a bad thing. He had a tendency to be unintentionally hilarious. We became friendly, hope we keep in touch. I'll treasure the memories.

I was a Creative Writing major and was afraid I would get lost in the class, but Rutenberg explains everything you need to learn about play writing and is willing to help you with the ideas you have. There are several assignments; at least 2 scenes, a monologue, and a 30 minute play, but the assignments are pretty flexible.

He is a wonderful professor who offers a wealth of knowledge in playwriting to his students. He is humorously direct with his comments, offers great advice on how to improve our play assignments in just one reading and encourages his students to do their best. His class has been my best classroom experience yet. I will miss this class dearly!

Michael Rutenberg changed my life. If he's still teaching, God bless him. To this day I employ things I learned in his classroom. He opened up original vistas. I am forever grateful to Dr. Rutenberg. I still remember that first day in director's class. He said, this is your stage, do with it what you want, but first learn the fundamentals.

I took M. Rutenberg's playwriting class multiple times. This was years ago. It was an exciting experience! I miss those classes. He has a wealth of practical experience. A brilliant man. I have taken many playwriting classes since then and none of them have been as rewarding as his class. He said many things that have proven to be memorable.
