Easy class but this prof wasn't good. Not flexible, not understanding, doesn't work with students. Seemed to almost want people to do poorly, was very hard to reach and didn't work with students. I had him Spring 2020 during online classes and he wasn't helpful at all. He actually made things harder with the transition.

Super easy class since most of it is dependent on Cerego, which is basically just memorizing terms. Lectures has instapolls for a grade, although it's not based on correctness. Quizzes are also easy, just look at the review guides. You have to attend two live jazz performances, although we listened to an album instead because of corona.

Take jazz appreciation!! Cannot stress this enough. Probably the easiest course that UT has to offer. Sailors is a really cool dude and very laid back. Online course, but he's always available and answers everyone's questions. I hated jazz but ended up loving this class. Small workload, interesting material, and an easy 3 credits. Take it!

Class is co-taught by Dr. Sailors and Dr. Hellmer. Be online for the live lectures not to miss the in-class polls. First few classes are about music forms, then it dives into the history of jazz for the rest of the sem. Content is easy. Final exam was just like the review. For covid, we didn't have live classes anymore. Take him! I love jazz now.

I took Jazz Appreciate during Spring of 2020 and I really loved the class. First of all, Professor Sailors made the content engaging. Secondly, as long as you payed attention during the lectures you really did not have to study much for the final. Lastly, this class has actually made Jazz one of my favorite genres and the live performance was fun.

Easiest class at UT. I never paid attention to a single lecture and I have a 100 in the class. Throughout the sem u have to attend 2 concerts and write essays about them, but the essays can be written in 30 minutes. Commit like 3 minutes to Cerego a day and you're gucci --don't fall behind on it!

BEST VAPA! This class was very easy and chill. Just make sure to actually do the Cerego everyday. Lectures were really interesting and it was nice having the class online. A couple of written assignments but they are easy to do.

easiest class I've taken. Just make sure to start your Cerego sets early because there is a mandatory day break (sometimes multiple days) every so many questions.

This is THE vapa class to take at UT. Super easy class with instapolls, quizzes, memory flashcards activities, final exam, and concert write-ups which was 100% manageable with a tough schedule. Very passionate professor for a game-changing class at UT

Very easy VAPA credit. There are a few times you have to attend a concert and write a paper. Most of your grade will be from online flashcards, instapolls, and in class quizzes.

Good choice for a VAPA as everyone would agree! Classwork consists of 1 cumulative final, weekly quizzes and online practice questions, and 2 writing assignments where you must attend a jazz concert in person. The difficulty is not high for any of these. Very interesting and fun class!

Definitely a light class. The class is a good experience, introducing different types of jazz and some of the historic context. You won't retain most of the information from this class, but it might just change your perspective and give you some good info to recognize when you hear it again

Professor Sailors has a very structured class. Do not get behind in Cerego because you will not be able to catch back up due to mandatory breaks the site makes you take. The essays are graded fairly and the events you attend are super fun. Overall, a great VAPA and really easy to get an A in.

Teaching style is very boring. He just tends to play a lot of music during classes and expects analysis. Also, do not expect any mercy for unforseen circumstances as a deadline is a deadline.

Its a chill class until you have an unfortunate situation and the professor doesn't care about what you went through (even with proper documentation) as the deadline is of more significance anyways.

Easy choice for a VAPA! The class is well-organized with online practice sets, weekly quizzes, 2 writing assignments, and a final. It introduces various jazz styles, and it's rewarding to recognize facts during the required jazz concert and once the class has ended. Stay on top of the Cerego sets to succeed!

The easiest class ever to take for your VAPA, quizzes and final exam wasn't bad at all, two writing assignments that require you to attend jazz shows in-person that aren't graded too harshly, lecture attendance is mandatory because of Instapolls, but you get 10 drops, make sure to start Cerego ASAP to get the highest grade possible.

Super easy VAPA if you just do the work. About 1, 5 question quiz a week and all the answers can be found word for word in the previous lecture. Majority of your grade comes from Cerego Homework which is so easy as long as you just do it. You are required to go to two jazz concerts a semester and write a 500 word paper but its graded super easy.

The class is easy as can be; however, Sailors and the TA both have this off putting ego that I could never get behind, always answering questions snarkily. Youre also required to go two jazz concert which you must attend in person and get autographs from the performers as proof. This totally defeated the purpose of an online class and was annoying.

Dr. Sailors was a great professor and made jazz fun and exciting. The part of going to concerts for a grade and writing about them was fun. Make sure you show up to every class for your instapolls there's a lot (100, graded for 90). Overall the class was very enjoyable.

This class is straightforward but the communication was frustrating at times. Having to attend and write papers on two jazz concerts was cumbersome, and it didn't help that they didn't list any on-campus options despite there being some. I found lectures to be long, rambly, and boring, but because of instapolls they are essentially mandatory.

Great music, way too much content. The summer online edition of this course tries to fit 9 jazz eras into 5 weeks. The required videos started feeling like complete noise after a point. Ridiculous emphasis on memorization. You need to know tons of artist and song names for weekly closed-note quizzes and final exam. Too much time spent on fusion.

It was a pretty easy class over all. The worst part was the closed note in-class-quizzes by far, but you could find what to study beforehand in a review he posts. Besides that you need to attend 2 jazz concerts outside of class and write a small paper for both. There is a final exam, but you can finish in the allotted time. Take it for sure!
