If u've heard of teachers from HELL then u got to meet this one coz he's SATAN disguised as a Calc. teacher. Loves to give pop quizzes that are supposed to be easy but every mistake u make u got to rewrite it 50 times. But's he's cool and u learn Calc.!
Fantastic professor but students call him Tilli the Hun! And for a good reason. If you want to learn calc then he's your man! but if you need to slide by then welcome to hell! Tests are brutal but his explination is superb. I plan to take him again.
The best when it comes to instructors. Tests are difficult (very long). Toughlove quizzes are hell but turned out very helpful in future math classes. Be ready to work, work and study. He has a nose for knowing your weaknesses and will strike at will.

Extremely hard. He thinks all other teachers are wrong, so its his way, or no way. Tries to reteach all of your previous math in one class. Out of my class of 30 students, 22 dropped by the day of the final.
Tough Loves will get to you. Knows his stuff, but expect to struggle.
its an experience that Im sure I/you will not regret, if you can make it through that is...my advice.. study tough loves, or drop the class.
If you take him, be ready to give twice the amount of time you would normally give. Also he'll like you if you do well on tough loves. He is a great educator, class A.
This was the hardest, butt kicking class that I ever took. It feels like you're in a boot camp and Santilli has become your drill sergeant. Welcome to the TOUGH LOVE HELL. The guys is a very good communicator and very helpfull but his tests are unreasonably long and hard, and set up that you don't finish. Oh, and no curve

Best prof I've ever had. Take the toughloves, or you'll never survive the exams.
THis guy is great! I never had a teacher that has spent so much time helping students. It was indeed a pleasure to learn from him. I think I have gotten my money's worth for this class. Toughloves are important but there is no better teacher around if you're going into engineering. Eventhough I knew he was hard, I took him 3 times and did very well
Professor Santilli is unquestionably the best math instructor I ever had. He does demand a lot from his students but I learned more math in a semester with him than I did in my first 2 years of college math with other instructors. I found him funny, witty and extreamly helpful. He has the ability to explain the subject in different ways which helps
Santilli is good. I had Calc3 before many years ago and was taking his course as a refresher. It didn't take long before I realized that I new nothing about Calc 3! I now feel that I can move on in my studies in Mathematics with confidence thanks to him. I didn't think the Toughloves were that tough. He discloses questions/answers before any quiz.
This professor is the best math teacher I have ever had. Toughloves are just that- TOUGH but probably necessary. His exams are fair but long. Homework and class notes are extra credit which is worth one letter grade. If you are willing to work, he will teach you more than you thought possible. I plan on taking him for MAT 231.
Professor Santilli is one of the best instructors I have ever had in any subject and I would highly recommend any one interested in science or engineering taking as much of their Calculus sequence as possible from him. Be warned though: this is not an easy class. You'll work very hard but, at the end, you'll KNOW this material very well.
I would recommend ANY class taught by Santilli. He's passionate about math, and holds his students to a VERY high standard. I got an A in calc 2 (from another professor), but I was really PROUD of my B in calc3 from Santilli. His classes will take over your whole life, but you'll learn a lot, and discover the areas you are weak. Brilliant.
Communicates well, however he competes with other math instructors on who can design a harder test for their students. Reminds students that he knows more than they do. Very egotistical, self centered, and treats students like they're still in elementary school. Very knowledgable about math.
Students love or hate him. If you want to learn math, you'll love him. If you're lazy and plan to coast, you'll call him egotistical or crazy or unfair. I've learned more from him than in any other college class, and he's a very generous grader. If you need to use math in your career, take his class.
Funny guy to listen to but is a difficult class to keep up with if working full time. He teaches really fast, but will help if you need it. Tests are hard and he says that he doesn't curve the grades.
Prof.Santilli is an excellent communicator. Wonderfully entertaining but he has a way to make you work for your grade. I truly learned more algebra, trig and physics (and of course, calculus) from his 3 calculus classes than I did in all of my other classes combined. I even switched my major to math education because of him! He changed my life.
Santilli is an excellent math professor. I highly recommend him. Attendance and homework are optional, but both are necessary to pass. His class is a lot of work, but you'll learn the subject well. (Study hard for toughloves!)
Santilli seems to have an adversarial relationship with his students. The highest score on the first test was a C! As far as lectures go, he isnt that bad, slightly above average. He stays enthusiastic and keeps you interested, but doesnt answer homework questions or respond to individual needs very well. If you want a B or better look elsewhere
Santilli is NOT the professor to take if you are just looking for the credit and/or not planning on using calculus in your line of work. He crams a lot of info into his lengthy lectures. You will learn a ton of math and will be successful in the class if you take his advice: recopy your notes, do all homework, learn the toughloves, and show up!
This professor is tops! I have never had math explained the way he lays it out. Very logical. I had him now for 4 semesters and am finding my engineering classes much easier because of him. I highly recommend him. He will make you work and he gives a lot of homework (optional) but there are no better. Very competent and confident in what he does.
if you want to understand calculus, take this class
Overrated instructor.
Very enthusiastic - demanded excellence
Great teacher. Knows his stuff. He's always available for after class help and answers any homework questions during class. Toughlove quizzes takes some getting use to but they are helping me a lot. This is the second time taking this class but I am understanding it this time thanks to Professor Santilli. I'd highly recommend this teacher! THE BEST
The best teacher I ever had. I took his Cal 1, Cal 2, Cal 3, and differential equation class. Dr. Santilli knows how to present the math. If you want an EASY A, look for some where else. This class prepare students for engineering or math major. Highly recommend!!! He is my advisor also.
It was a pretty easy A. The first time I took calc 3 and first class with him, I thought it was easy. Makes you do a lot of work, but easy to get the grade. Everyone at MCC is just way too lazy and "washed up". He's a great teacher though, should take him if you'll try. Very slow at getting things done though and getting back to you.
Tilli is a great instructor, but you will LEARN the material. There is no choice.
Best math prof. ever! Have learned sooo much from this challenging prof. Many critcs but those students are just lazy! You have to work hard to learn Calc!
He is the best math teacher I've ever had because he knows what he is doing. I heard his tests are hard, but I really don't care because I know I will have good nath knowledge after I am done with his class.
He's tough, but great!! I would continue taking his class.
toughlove
Perhaps the best professor I have ever had. If you really want to LEARN calculus, you need to be in his class. He does such an amazing job of teaching the material that I did not need to consult the textbook explanations. Yes, his class is very demanding, but it's worth it. Good teachers are hard to come by.
I had Dr. Santilli for Calc I, II, III and Diff Eq. He is a great professor and will push you to do your best. He is one that actually understands the material he teaches and is very helpful. If you need to know math - Santilli is your guy!
Mr Santilli, his teaching standard is with no doubt "MIT-ish". You will start with a class of 40 ended with less than 10 passing the class. He gives a "Toughlove" 1 point 5 questions quiz randomly from his internet handout. His tests are extremely challeging. The homeworks are not mandatory, but this is where everyone slack off and fail. Good
Tilli- He's rough, but it's all for the better good. He is able to break down the material and really communicate what is happening in the math. He really does want to see you to pass, but you're gonna have to work hard for it. No really- hard work. Absolutely take his classes if you need to know math.
Santilli is a VERY difficult teacher. DO NOT take his class if you are looking for an easy passing grade, he makes you work for your grade. He is great at teaching the material, but his tests are insainly difficult. An average of 5 people pass his class a semester. If you feel lucky or like a challenge then have fun!
I took Prof Santilli for Calc1 thru Diff Eq. He rocks! His Calc was a carrer alturing experience. Diff Eq was the easiest-most enjoyable. I changed my degree to Math teacher and I hope to take his techniques into my classroom some day. If you want to learn this material he's it. He even stays after class helping students sometimes past MIDNIGHT!WOW

This guy knows Calculus like the back of his hand, but when it comes to his tests, forget getting a passing grade. You are lucky to be in the class average. They are meant to trick you. You are better writing a bunch of nonsense just to get partial credit than actually get the right answer. Take him if you prefer a challenge
Definitely the best instructor but you'll be pushed Exams are tough but only count for half of your finalgrade. Some are take home. He lets you correct exams for points. A class for engineering majors! To succeed do ALL homework know ALL Toughloves recopy notes and do all extra credit A little secret-He'll work test problems after class!Great class
Took his Calc II & III, and Diff Eq- best teacher I've had in several years. Very clear lectures, with heavy emphasis on engineering instead of mathematical rigor. Expect lots of work, but don't be intimidated- Santilli will help if you ask. I've often seen him stay past midnight to tutor. Fantastic teacher!
Professor Santilli will teach anyone who wants to learn. He asks that you be an adult and put in the required work. As a reward, he will teach you more about Calculus than 100 tenured MIT professors. His classes are rigorous, his exams are grueling, but if you would really like to understand math in ways you never thought possible, take this class!
Unusual Dynamic professor whose can create mathematicians out of students. I feel privileged to be his student.MCC should feel the same to have attracted such a high calibre professor to be in their staff. The guy can toughlove you to death!!!A high calibre Professor!!From high inputs expect equally high student outputs. Not an easy A class!!
There so much to say . . hmmm . . BEST TEACHER EVER . .YES very Tough but there is som love as he says. . You will actually get what u pay for when u enter this class . . however . . if your don't follow his instruction precisely you'll quickly fall behind and find your self spending countless hours trying to catch up . . if you aren't already.
Best math teacher I have ever had hands down. Also the toughest. You NEED to put the work into the class to pass, but if you do all of the work and follow his studying suggestions, you will naturally understand the material. Taking his math classes will put you miles ahead of most other students who take it from other teachers.
An extremely, ridiculously hard class. If the class average of every test is like 30%, or on a better day it was 60%, then he isn't teaching correctly. Tests aren't difficult they are impossible. Only way to pass this class is to devote your semester to this class alone. Also I have seen him do things like rip up a students quiz infront of class.
Means well..only cus he thinks he's so great. This is a math class for those who never understood math. Waste of my time, I went ready to learn only to find him teaching me things I'd learned 5 times in other classes. Useless work and very hard test. If not even half the class gets a good grade then it says something bout the professor..just saying
Well I must say, I too am in Santilli's mat 220 class and I have to say in all fairness that he is currently covering a REVIEW ALG/TRIG chapter so it suppose to be review! And we don't know what his exams are like because we haven't had any yet! So far he's a great teach! really knows his stuff - but we really just started the course.
Prof. Santilli actually cares if you get the education you are paying for, not just credit for attending a class. His teaching is fast and all inclusive. This is not high school any more where the teacher excepts your excuses for not putting in effort outside of class. He gives you EVERYTHING you need to succeed and then some.
Don't listen to those who just blame Pf. Santilli. If you wanna learn and get something from the class (definitely you need to, welcome to college), take his classes. I've took his calc1 and currently taking calc2, he's the best instructor I've ever seen and gonna see. If you don't pass, give up studying or TRY hard. It's all up to how you do.
This is Calculus boot camp and only the strong survive. If you're a Math Person this class is glorious--you'll finally get the challenge you crave. If you aren't, Tilli can turn you into one of us but it won?t be easy. An extraordinary teacher who demands the same from his students. If all you want is to pass Calculus this isn?t the class for you.
Took Prof Tilli for Calc I, II, and III. Best math instructor ever for math and engineering majors. He exposes you weaknesses and makes you stronger. You learn the material so well that you start to become extremely confident in your abilities, and it makes all of your other science/math/engineering classes that much easier. JUST DO ALL THE WORK!
I've had this professor for two calc classes now, and I can easily recommend him. I am a professor myself, and specifically chose his CALC classes for a new degree. Prof. Santilli is thorough and gives you the "why" behind the Math. He bridges the gap and gives you tools to use for math/calc. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Very clear lectures, and very deep knowledge of the subject. *BUT* if you have any responsibilities aside from his class you'll be very lucky to scrape a C out of him. He is a rough grader, and assigns a lot of work with very little to no extra credit. Grades your notes along with homework, and lots of quizzes. Good, but will bring your GPA down.
Nothing in life that's worth attaining comes easy, same goes for this class and math in general. He is tough but for your benefit, if your lazy and dont like to learn dont take his class. The work you put in will be rewarding as well as the knowledge. GREAT TEACHER amazing class, very helpful and teaches you subject from A to Z. Nuff said
Good instructor, but no joke! This is a difficult class requiring enormous amounts of study time. Random "Tough Love" quiz's are brutal! Tests? Extremely difficult compared to HW. If your Algebra is weak, YOU WILL STRUGGLE IN THIS CLASS! If you don't have 3 hrs/day minimum to commit, do yourself a favor, DO NOT TAKE this course/instructor!
Great teacher... except the fact that he is frequently late and also holds the class late. BE READY TO SPEND AT LEAST 3 HOURS per day on this course if you want to pass. He is strictly a "no calculator or cheat sheets" kind of guy. Homework amount is ridiculous, tests are near impossible. Don't take if you just want to pass. VERY hard to get a C
I read the reviews here and took the class anyway. I didn't make it. It's brutal, like everyone else says. Great professor, but yes, the class can kill you. You are required to copy and organize your notes, which is graded, lots of homework, plus the exams are designed to be tougher than any homework you've done.
He is a great teacher and explians everything very well. Home work and test are the tuffest part of the class. You must keep on top of your homework to past the tests.
Not the easiest to get an A, but if you want to LEARN calculus, there isn't a better professor to learn from. He requires a lot from his students, but he TEACHES calculus. Teaches from experience of Expert Engineering background, nobody knows calculus better! Nobody teaches it better! Textbook is primarily for homework.
ProfTilli ROCKS! Amazing professor. Funny, brilliant but never teaches over your head. He can teach calculus to a child! Friends were afraid to take him but my ASU Engineering profs told me to take him rather than taking someone from their own school! If that doesn't say it all. Hard work but you'll get more out of his class than you'll put in.FACT
Very interesting professor, really enjoyed how he went through derivations on most everything. I disagree about having to hand in notes and homework, time is better spent working derviations than copying. Students that just memorize the material (the majority) seem to struggle with understanding the concepts. Math is about intuition not memory.
A challenging professor that will push you to learn calculus. He lays out the blueprint on what it takes to excel in his class, hard work! Don't be discouraged by a poor test score (avg 35%), there are other ways to make up points (quizzes, hw, notes, etc). You will walk away with real world applicability and know how to problem solve.
Don't waste his time because he will not waste yours. Commit to his class 100% and you will do fine. Know your algebra and be ready to learn Calculus. Be prepared to spend 10+ hours a week to pass the class.
He has high expectations and wants you to really learn the material. He loves teaching and math. He knows the material cold. If you want to learn math and work like never before, take his class. After making it through his class, you will be a better thinker in not only math, but all of your courses and life.
He is ridiculously hard. That being said you will learn more from him than from anyone else. He will stay until midnight explaining something to you if you need him to. Took me two semesters to pass his class but it was WELL worth it. Do the notes, homework, and toughloves and you will rock his class.
Most AMAZING MATH TEACHER,.. He is also the toughes, I took Cal 1-3 with im, lets just say I am real behind on math do to having to retake his class multiple times :<..
Most knowledgeable teacher I've ever had in mathematics, however his workload is ridiculous his exams are designed to be insanely stressful and tells you outright he will make the exam longer than the time he gives you to take it. He will not curve grades so you will work insanely hard for a 'c.' Great for understanding bad for your GPA.
Very good explanations. Very willing to work with students. Course material was very difficult.
First off, he is tough as hell, but it's worth it. I, like most, don't care much for calculus, but Santilli actually made it entertaining. So it was an odd mixture of enjoying every minute of class but dreading the hw and tests. I have since moved on to calcII and III and I owe it all to "Tony" for giving me a good base to start from.
Amazing professor, Insane expectations of previous knowledge. Earning a C is very tough. no curving, he sets his grades and you have to work to earn every point. Take him if your a genius and have plenty of time to do HW and reqite notes and spend days studying for one of his outrages exams. i mean class average was (32%)
I agree that ProfTilli is utterly fantastic but homework and exams are brutal. In fairness, he does allow students to redo exams in groups to learn from our mistakes and then gives extra credit for it. Super fun class but keep up with what he wants you to do. Toughlove material is an absolute must to know. A lot of work but definitely worth it.
Probably one of the most demanding classes you will take. But without a doubt rewarding. Don't cheat yourself by taking a teacher for an "Easy A." Chances are you'll regret it. Push yourself the entire class. Be prepared to work and spend a couple of hours each day studying/homework. No joke. Awesome teacher, fun lectures, hard work. Worth it.
This amazing teacher expects more of you than anyone else. You'll be challenged, you'll suffer, you'll work harder than ever, you'll think its crazy and unfair at times. In the end, you'll come out better than you ever thought possible. If you don't want your long journey to the middle interrupted, then this isn't the teacher for you.
Holy derivative Batman! If math is in your future career this teacher is your guy. You will learn more about math than you thought possible. You better come to class everyday and do extra homework problems just for fun; for if you do you will become a true mathematician. If your career is not math, run! ;-)
His class changed my life! I am now changing my major to engineering because of professor santilli. This instructor is unbelievably good. I now believe I can accomplish anything I want to do. He has been a godsend for me not only with math but with my career goals. He's also an engineer and looks like Tony Stark! I highly recommended him.
yeah, Ironman! He's even worked on top secret DARPA programs designing future military stuff. Stuff he would tell us after class-real cool! As far as the class, top notch and a great guy. Stays past midnight to help students. Be prepared to work your tail off. Brutal exams and lots of homework. You will learn more than you ever thought possible.
If you're wanting to take a class that's an easy A, this class is not the one to take. If you're wanting to take a class where you will learn so much compared to any math class you have ever taken, THIS IS THE ONE. I like a challenge and this one was an insane one. He's great at breaking down things so you understand them completely.
This class/professor is the class you want to be in if learning calculus to a global standard and being held accountable to that standard is what you desire. If you want an easy a, to be coddled with a generous curve, or to get by without complete and utter mastery of the material, think twice about taking it. Life-Changing class. Truly.
He is extremely intelligent and you will learn more about math than ever before. Make sure to do your homework, notes, and study tough love, otherwise you are doomed. You better know your algebra. I put more effort into this class than any other before, and wasn't sure if I was going to pass up to the day I took the final, but it was worth it.
He is an amazing teacher that knows what he talking about. He is hard and demanding however, keep up w/HW, notes, and Toughloves, and you will do awesome. He can be rude but I guess he is entitled with his achievements.
Santilli is one of the BEST math professor I've ever had in all my math LIFE! He's really tough on you but he motivates you to learn and continue trying. Everything he taught in class makes perfect sense and I am beyond terrible in math. I wish I had him for the rest of my math classes in college. Take him if you actually want to understand math!
Taking this class was the best decision I could have made. It provided me with a strong foundation for Calculus, which is crucial to my future. I could not thank Professor Santilli enough for his patience, passion, and for encouraging us to live up to his expectations.
This class provided me with a strong foundation for Calculus, which is crucial to my future. I could not thank Professor Santilli enough for his patience, passion, and for encouraging us to live up to his expectations. The course consumed my summer and was as difficult as the rumors led it to believe, it was the best decision I could have made.
I had Santilli in Spring and did not pass BUT that is not because of his teaching - he is amazing and wants you to learn. I have a different professor for summer and I know that without Santilli I would be taking Calculus again. My teacher now is horrible - he needs to take Santilli to learn what Calculus is and how to teach! SANTILLI ROCKS!
Not easy to get thru, but if you want to LEARN calculus, there isn't a better professor. Requires a lot from students, but he TEACHES calculus from experience of Expert Engineering background. Nobody knows calculus better! Nobody teaches it better! I also purchased his calculus videos and found them to be invaluable. I used them in other classes!
He is probably the best calculus teacher out there. If you have anything other than school good luck passing. This class takes dedication and you have yo put all your efforts in to suceed in his class. It might be tought but even if you fail you know you got your moneys worth and a foundation that will last a lifetime.
If you want to be challenged and learn Calculus the right way, then Santilli is the only way to go. His lectures are clear, insightful, and humorous. He dedicates a lot of time to helping students if need be. However, he expects a lot in return. As far as effort and workload, there is no slacking in his class. You'll be much better for it.
I am really sucking up an invaluable wealth of wisdom from his class. I would weigh the knowledge and outlook I have gained so far in just 2 months of Tilli class periods against my entire 2 years at ASU in terms of emergent knowledge expansion from a solid, fundamental origin. The amount of integrity and confidence he inspires is a true gift.
Awesome professor! I would take him again in a flash. Class is hard but you'll be so much better for it. For the people who complain that he's hard should pay attention! He warned everyone on the very first day. Don't take his class if you don't want to put in the time.
I learned more in one semester with Prof Tilli than all my previous math courses combined. You will work harder than you ever have before. Not only did I learn math but I learned valuable life skills as well. The refined factor analysis, curve sketch calculator, and other math tools that he created are AMAZING! This man should write a textbook!!
HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO FULL OF HIMSELF!!!!!!!!!!
I wouldn't recommend having a full course load while taking his class, this class is designed to take over your life. Great lectures, you learn a lot, his tests are beyond brutal. recommended for physics and engineering majors.
Focus on this course. He's not going to treat you with kid gloves. You will work hard and you will know you earned that grade at the end of the semester. You'll learn tons from him.
By far the best and hardest math teacher you will ever have. He will not only teach you math, you will learn math at an understanding far beyond that of your peers. His tests are very hard. More than half the class withdrew. He's extremely helpful and available for help whenever (and I do mean whenever) you need it.
I had never taken him before, until last semester for calc3. I knew he was gonna be hard, but I didn't know what to expect. 34 students enrolled and only 2 of us actually passed. Although I passed with an A, I wouldn't say that it was easy. He knows what he's doing and if you wanna be an engineer then this is how it's gonna be! He's the best!
In my entire life I have never respected and admire a professor more than him. I learnt more things during 2 months in his class than all my previous math classes combined and I can testify that paying the tuition for his class was one of the best money ever spend although I had to withdraw the class at the very end. Thank you for everything
Worth it. The amount of work required prepares you for the tests and quizzes.
Professor Santilli is very knowledgeable and focuses his teachings for STEM majors. He gives ALOT of homework and be sure to study the material that he requires you to understand. He gives quizzes frequently. All in all, he is an amazing teacher and I plan to take him for the rest of my math classes.
Best teacher I ever had. If you want to learn calculus take this guy! If its your last math class, stay away. He teaches future engineers so it'll be tough. No one else will teach you this material like he does. It was backbreaking, panic attack inducing, hard work, but it was worth it because now I know how to calculus.
Santilli knows and explains stuff very very well and clear. you will learn a whole bunch of things after the semester of course. BUT, THE WAY he teaches is kinda NOT SCIENTIFIC. Its more like a military camping rather than a peaceful math class. the course design force you to loose points and it is REAL easy to drop into one lower grade within week
Took for Calc 1,2,3. Best professor Ive ever had! His classes are not easy and it will require a tremendous amount of work ethic. Willing to stay and help after class for as long as it is required. Ive done so well in other science and engineering classes because my calc background is so strong. Diffy Q, PHY 131, and ECE 214 were easy b/c of him.
Santilli can be a blessing or curse for your life, depends on how you take it. Exams are tremendously TOUGH but he is fare. Key to success is-copying notes, doing and Understanding all hws, attending class and asking questions. He is hard and you might fail the class but its a quest worth experiencing. If you cant do well,it is your responsibility
Be prepared for A LOT of extra work. He assigns homework and other busy work that is collected at the end of the semester. Even though it's really tedious, Santilli really cares about his students and is there for you and your questions. He is great at going over key concepts, his lectures are great, and he can be really funny.
Very poor class instructor, not helpful outside of the class. Gets angry and defensive in the classroom when you ask questions. I did not learn well from him and consider him a very poor instructor. Would not recommend at all.
What a great but very demanding experience. I never knew I could learn so much in such a short period of time. Professor Santilli is fantastic! You will never experience a better explanation of math and physics concepts. He lays out complex topics in such a simple and logical way. AMAZING! BUT he demands 110% effort in return. Overall, none better!
AMAZING professor! REALLY DEMANDING, yes, but this is only because he truly cares about you. You get what you put in, so try your hardest (you'll only be doing yourself a favor in the end). Form study groups, try to get a hold of past exams and other course materials, and do EVERY bonus assignment! Befriend those who have taken his course before.
Hes a lot of work. His lectures are clear. I would not take him if you work or are taking a full schedule of classes.
98% of his teaching is AMAZING. BUT, I am here to warn you about the other 2%. now DO NOT take his class if: 1. you have a busy life or a demanding job: way to much HOMWORK. 2. if you dislike HOMEWORK, there is a ton! 3. if you plan on taking calc2 and ANY other class in the summer. 4. if you procrastinate, at all, your finished. none apply, do it
I took Santillis class over 10 years ago. I still refer to my notes! It was the hardest class I've ever taken. This class showed me what I was capable of. For Science and Engineering students, there is no better class. I've since become a Software Engineer, wrote 4 books and have become very successful in software. Best professor I've ever had.
Prof Tilli's Calc classes (220-241) were the most impactful classes I've ever taken. I just graduated from Stanford and he's the best teacher I've ever had, hands down. Be ready to work and learn from failure. You face adversity a lot. I transitioned from finance undergrad to engineering masters. W/o his classes it wouldn't have been possible.
Amazing professor, amazingly difficult. I wish I had him for Calc I because the information and study strategies he gives you is invaluable. I wish he taught physics and engineering courses too, but after taking him I do feel like I'll be ready to take future/harder math courses.
I have never respected someone so much in my life. His lectures are amazing and he helps you to understand the world of engineering. but his tests are impossible. First test:High score-40%. Low score-6%. Avg-12%. In the end 4 out of 35 passed his class. 3 hours a week of at home video lectures on top of in class lecture + 3 hours of hmwrk nightly.
I thank him so much because I learned a lot from him not just in math. It was an amazing 4 months. And for me he is not just a teacher but an Inspirational person and great Scientist. He is the best instructor I have ever seen in my entire life. I have a lot of words in my head to say. but it's hard for me to translate it to English.
If you want to fail the don't take him. I would not recommend if you want an A
You have to be a sadist to fit his definition of "love." 10/10 would take again.
Professor Santilli is the best math instructor I have EVER had. He challenges students and give excellent instruction. His review of Algebra and Trig helped me immensely. You will work VERY hard and come out knowing your stuff. He has a great sense of humor. Took his Summer Calc 1 class, no job, no other classes, almost failed, do it, hes amazing
By far the best math teacher I've had. He does not want to short you on ANY math concepts. My algebra skills improved more in his summer calc course than they did during my entire algebra career. His teaching standard is well above the majority of professors, it was the most challenging course I've taken. You MUST prioritize this class to pass.
Hands down the greatest educational investment I have ever made. If you're determined I guarantee you'll come out of this class far more capable than you came in. If I ever have kids I'm going to throw them into Santilli's class at the first opportunity
Bare min: ATTEMPT every HW assign. even if only submitting ONE prob./ page, MEMORIZE every single tough love (easy), attend EVERY lecture, make an effort to attend TUTORING for EC, try 2 rewrite all lec. notes but NEVER spend more than 30 min., NEVER leave a test prob. blank, make it up if needed. Study smarter, NOT harder. Strategize & Prioritize.
This Professor challenge me in ways I've never been challenged academically before. I think I learned more about study habits and dedication to school material in this one class alone than the rest of my school years previously. Truly a gem of an instructor. Highly recommend him especially if you are a STEM major. Fantastic experience!
This class was a whirlwind of information delivered by THE master! Professor Tilli is a math wizard and you have no choice but to enjoy the ride thru calculus! He is his own reality TV show. A must take class even if you have to take it twice to pass. But I enjoyed the challenge. Recommend highly.
I had the honor of having professor Santilli for cal 3. He is by far the best instructor I have ever had! He covers the material extremely well! He will make you work for a passing grade but it is worth it! Now in my upper division physics courses the math is not an issue at all, which I can't say the same for other students who didn't have him.
He is a good speaker, he can give clear cut examples. However, there is a disconnect between how he presents info in class and what is on the exams. Very straightforward examples in class, yet exams extremely difficult. I think his speaking skills are a lot of why people like him.
If you take Santilli you will understand the material better than you would've with another teacher, but you will probably have to retake it next semester anyway. Be prepared to make and memorize a large pile of flash cards, watch about 6 hours of online lecture, and do a ton of homework. Great guy, though. Classes were mostly enjoyable.
No word comes to mind but, RESPECT, when I think of Professor Santilli! This is hands down the greatest professor on the entire planet. I have never in my whole life seen a teacher who is able to teach the way that this man does! He is a math god! However, this is the hardest thing I have ever attempted! You must have a lot of time! Must sacrifice!
Without a doubt this has been one of the best instructors I have ever had. Do not be afraid to ask questions! He really knows the material and can break it down in such a way that even a baby can understand if need be. You will need to work hard but it is well worth it, putting you ahead of your peers... Definitely money well spent.
This was by far the hardest class I've ever taken. Even though I got a "C" for a grade, I got SO much out of he's class. My calc 2 and calc 3 classes were a breeze with all of the information Santilli MADE me memorize. I'll pass on taking him again but if you really want to learn calculus definitely consider taking him. Thank you Santilli ...
Every lecture of his that I sit through, I find myself in awe as the universe unfolds and I begin to understand the complexities of it all. Santilli is oft described by his students as a legend, and he has the ability to match his reputation. If you go into this class wanting to learn, I can guarantee you will get more than you could have imagined.
This guy is the neil degrasse tyson of mathematics.
PROF SANTILLI IS THE BEST TEACHER FOR STEM MAJORS! If you can dedicate time and tons of effort, he will help you with anything you need, and answer any question you have. You WILL fail a couple of exams, feel like you know nothing, you WILL be behind on assignments. HOWEVER, IT IS TOTALLY WORTH IT. Even if you drop, his knowledge is priceless
Fantastic! I now know what getting your ass kicked and LIKING IT really feels like. He's the professor to take if you really want to understand mathematics and how it all fits into the world around us. I truly appreciate and thank him for his considering approach to the subject. I didn't make it thru his class this time but I will in the fall.
Really great at teaching math, honestly couldn't have learned Calc better in any other classroom. However, don't expect to pass the class. I took it over the summer, so I didn't really "waste" a semester, but when I took it again with a different teacher it was a total breeze and also took weight off for Calc 2.
Hardest class I've ever had. Great at lecturing but very hard teacher. Exams are unrealistically difficult. Will do required video lectures over some weekends in addition to normal classes to stay on schedule, teaches more material than the class requires, and requires you to know it all, which can make the workload overwhelming at times.
By far the best teacher I have had, the class was extremely hard and had to work my butt off to pass but it was worth it. His class taught me how to study right. The grasp on Calculus I have compared to other classmates who didn't have Santilli is shocking. If you do the work you will not have nearly as many struggles in future classes.
Like anything in life worth having, his classes require time and hard work for preparation of the real world (STEM Majors). If your always prepared and stay on top of the work, the class should be no issue. Study your notes right after class, stay on top of the HW and highlight important parts. Everything else should fall into place.
This class is the most difficult I have ever taken, but his lectures are fascinating and engaging. ASK QUESTIONS, he may seem unapproachable but he isn't and will explain until you understand. One of the most caring teachers I have had, he wants you to know your stuff and you will. Every other class I have taken since has been a breeze math wise.
No other instructor has given me such a great understanding of the material they were teaching. I took his Calc 3 class (Spring 2019) after reading ratemyprofessor posts on Santilli's challenging-but-rewarding style. If you want a decent grade be prepared to work for it. Do the homework, don't miss class, study hard, and you will be rewarded.
Professor Santilli is an awesome teacher when it comes to lectures. However, he does not use canvas and the student doesn't know if they are passing until he posts their grade after the semester ends. Toughlove and exams are going to be the main factor when it comes to your grade. Only 2 people passed out of 38 students this last fall. Good Luck!
Santilli is the hardest professor you will ever take. With that in mind, he will also be the most knowledgable. His content is palatable and he is a phenomenal lecturer. But if you already have a heavy course load and work on the side, do not take Santilli. The course alone will take anywhere for 10-30 hours a week if you're doing all the work.
Probably great before online. Now a useless/lazy. Now everything he has is on video. 2.5-5 hour long videos he will go off on wild tangents. If you don't know how to work a question, he will not help you. Incredible amounts of HW (that is never graded, no idea if you're doing this right). Basically, if you take you'll have to take again. Impossible
first time calc students, don't take the class online. you don't have a professor, just a lot of videos that are 2-5 hours long. you have to watch them and learn from that, there is no lecture during the video meets. the videos are old, low quality, and difficult to watch because he goes off on wild tangents. don' know why he didn't cut those out?
Professor Santilli is by far one of the best instructors at this college. His webinars are extremely well laid out with his uncanny ability to immediately answer any question in great length. He presents the material with a humorous flair so you're less intimated by the rigor of calculus. He is a top instructor second to none. Heavy work load req.
I personally had an awful experience. He was TERRRRRIBLE with communication. Grading made 0 scenes and he does not upload anything into canvas so you are blind to your grade the entire time
professor's videos are EXTREMELY difficult to watch and are overdue for an update.. Online students beware. Taking this class just means you'll have to take it again. Mediocre at best.
My experience with Santilli made me a more passionate learner & motivated me to do better not just in his class, but set me up for success through obtaining my Architecture Degree at ASU. Because he took the time to care for me as an individual, I had the positive push to do better in life. Disclaimer: Physics at South Mountain back in 1999 or 2000
WORTH IT!!! Santilli was/is the best out there. He's skilled in ways that go beyond any logical professional on this planet. He cares deeply about his students & wishes to see them succeed, in life & his class. He is tough but you'll thank him later for it. Ignore the bad reviews!! They did poorly in the class and are biased against online learning
Professor Santilli is my all time favorite professor. He challenges the class to do the work and think critically. He is knowledgeable well beyond Calculus and excited my curiosity for mathematics, physics and engineering.
To give a reflection of this class, I must say it is not a good class to learn in. You will quickly realize memorization is paramount when you take the "tough quizzes". Their style is poor with emphases on memorization, little conceptualization, and poor explanations. Taking this professor is a waste of time, you're better of teaching yourself.
He presents mathematics in the way that many other teachers can not. If you looking to challenge yourself to learn above memorization you are with the right person. I can only be thankful for all the hard work given in his classes. Michael Santilli keep his students out of the ordinary. Halan
