This guy is a genius! He is very informative and definitely makes you think about the subject you are learning. He does grade very harshly though. For Western Civ 1750-present, we wrote 4 papers. Those are your only grades in his class, and they have to be supremely academic. Overall though, he was an amazing professor.

I took parts one and two of this course, both with professor savage. He is inspiring and makes a great mentor. A "love it or hate it" kind of class structure. Lecture based with class involvement greatly encouraged. Four essays and one group project make up the entirety of the grade besides participation.

Amazing teacher! He is not easy, but he will work with you and wants the best for his students. Grades are based on writing not tests, and you must be a free thinker and open to all ideas. Not a traditional teacher - a real University professor, not your average VCC teacher, he's better. Tough but fair.

This was my 'hardest' class in terms of academic requirements but in every way the one I looked forward to. Prof Savage had me thinking outside of school! Extremely knowledgeable, insists on class participation and encourages debate. Brilliant, I wish all my professors were like this.

I could not always keep up with this class. It was different to my others which are lecture type class with powerpoints. Mr Savage likes discussion and I sometimes missed things. He was always ready to meet with me, but it was still hard. He should make class more normal.

If you like too think things through and talk it through, this is the man. i understand more now than I ever did before. He will not give away pass grades, but if you do the work he is the best.

I so enjoyed this class. Not the easiest or most straight forward but one where i could express myself and really think about the issues.this will so prepare me for when I go to proper college. id one seminar on the Holocaust, it was worth the whole semester just for that class, totally amazing.

Great class, not at all easy, lots to think about. Prof Savage approaches things very differently,he places the responsibility for learninng on the student, this means he can concentrate on analysing and discussion in class. I will surely sign up for another class with him.

The hardest work ever for a B! It was not busy hard, although you do have to write two essays,but it was 'brain' hard. You have to really think for this man, he wants wide ranging discussion and big conversations. I did this class as a kind of fill in but now I am thinking of changing my major to history. It was cool having a brit teach American History, a different way of looking at things, same material but sometimes very different views. Completed two years here and I am moving to law school. I have taken three history professors here but Savage blows them away. He is on a different level. I do all my classes online because of my schedules. Until now all have been dull and honestly pointless. This class changed all that, it was brilliant. Dr. Savage is the best professor I have ever had. I have taken him for four classes and every class gets better. He requires you to do your own reading and research for day to day class materials. This was an elective for me and I just wanted it over when I started it. After 1 class Dr Savage changed my complete outlook. Took me aside asked if I wanted a challenge - who does that who ever cares? I took up his offer to write a research paper, he met with me every week outside class, got me through it . He's a great professor. More of a perspective class than a history class, he really concentrates on making you a critical thinker. Synopsis are due every class and two 2000 word essays. He loves to crack jokes and is ALWAYS willing to help.

Just finished a history of genocide with Dr Savage. This has to be the best holocaust and genocide class anywhere. I am Jewish and have grown up with this material but not presented like this. This is a head class! It is easy if you get fully into it. Dr Savage makes you talk about history so you need to turn up with something to talk about. Prof. Savage is an excellent history professor and a fair grader. He knows his stuff, but respects you having a different opinion or outlook on a topic (so long as you can back it up). You'll do a lot of writing and you better be ready to read a lot. You get a lot of room picking topics to write. He's British (call it GREAT Britain!and very funny.

Savage has to be one of the world experts on genocide. He witnessed Rwanda and Bosnia and he brings real experience and feeling to the class. He is way above any other professor I have had. Professor Savage gives outstanding lectures and is very reliable. You will need the book and there are papers due every other week, so if this is a subject that you're interested in I highly recommend taking him. He knows what he's talking about and have had first-hand experiences, which was an honor to hear about.

Dr. Savage was such an amazing professor. I took his Honors class and it was very tough but I learned a whole lot. There are papers due every week, but he gives you tips to make sure you do the best you can. He also knows all the students by name very quickly. He still knows my name when I see him on campus.

At the beginning he talks about the way we look at events through distorting lenses, he cuts through all of that and gets to the real thinking. This class is amazing and he is also. This class is NOT an easy A. Savage expects a lot from you but he gives an amazing amount back, I have never met a professor who works so much for his students. He looks at history very differently, he is interesting and very fair. The best and you should take this class, amazing.

The professor is very inspirational. This is one of the professors that 10-20 years down the line a student will remember. This is because he helps students see beyond the limits of just facts about history. He helps students connect the past with the present, so students get a better grip on what shaped us to the way we are today as a society.

My favorite teacher of all time. He is the only teacher I have had that is a true thinker and educator, rather than a mouthpiece for a curriculum. He expects work, but what good teacher wouldn't? Just show him your best effort and he will make sure you do what is required to pass. I am definitely taking him again and suggest the same to all others.

He was a great professor, we used the textbook in the beginning but by the end of the class we barely even opened it. He doesn't really express his own opinion, but always counter-argues everyone's.

I am in the Honors program and since joining it I have not once felt stretched or challenged. A wonderful professor! Very honest he tells you on day one what is expected and he sticks with it. The genocide class is really deep and it exposes all the complex issues in the world. I have never been so involved in a class as I was with Prof Savage. I have just signed up with him for summer.
