He also teaches precalc and calc 1...He is an excellent professor and I learned a lot from him...Very fair grader and he drops the lowest test grade and grades on a curve..Very good at explaining material. I learned a lot from him. A+
He is one of my favorite teachers at MCC!! He teaches at a slow pase and makes it easy to get a "A" on your tests. he drops the lowest test grade and is always available for extra help. AWESOME TEACHER!!!!
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST PROF AT MCC! Very reasonable teacher, drops lowest test grade, teaches at good pace, really helpful, willing to help after class, teaches very understandably and clearly, good at what he does, just do ur wrk n keep in mind calc not ez
A relaxed professor who comes off as someone whose vocabulary is not understandable to the average student. I wouldn't recommend him if you have to bet your life on it.
I just know this professor for couple of weeks but I must tell you he's the best so far. He's very explicit. He makes sense and most importantly he breaks down anything hard to simple.I just love his pace and the way he teaches. He's also not boring.
AWESOME TEACHER! Perphaps the best.
Phenomenal math teacher. He's easily the best I've ever had. Very thorough and clear. One warning--if you think the first exam was easy, don't get comfortable. He ratchets up the difficulty on subsequent exams.
He is ABSOLUTELY one of my favorite professors here in Midlesex. Hes very good at what he does and makes you feel comfortable with the subject. I highly recommend him.
done part A with him...doing part B next semester..he truly is great. never thought id actually find a math teacher id like...or even like math for that matter. he's changed that in just one semester. TAKE HIM...
Very hard, If you are not a math major, i dont recommend him, he's hard and his exams are tough... If he doesn't like you, he will fail you
Awesome teacher! Very professional and fair. He explains things slowly and goes over it a million times until you get it right. He is the only the math teacher that I have passed by myself. I highly recommend Mr. Scanlon!
he can teach; just to descriptive
Very hard. Poor examples. Wasnt clear at all. Had his "Favorites"
he's nice, but go2him when u need help, he'll sort u out :) grade depends on the results of 2 tests and the final, so study hard&keep up with the hw :p he's kinda entertaining... :D
Examples are the test questions!!! He likes those who sit in front and participate, get on his good side and it'll be easier for you.
I had him many many moons ago. From what I remember he wasn't a bad teacher.
HARD TEACHER! ONLY 2 TESTS AND 1 EXAM AS WHOLE GRADE! WITH ONLY 14 QUESTIONS PER TEST.. REALLY DIFFICULT TO FOLLOW, COMPLICATES EVERYTHING
he is an excellent prof. not a math major you are going to fail his class he expects alot from his students. and he doesnt leave a way for you to bounce back in his class. test are only 14 ques. 3 test per semester if you fail one like i did your screwed like i was. ended up taking it again
Great teacher but gives very hard tests. Goes too far in depth with some subjects giving useless information and needless proofs (needless unless you are a math major anyway). Curves tests but expect to do alot of work for an B+ much less an A. Extremely nice guy.
Very nice personable guy. His grading system is simple. 4 tests, drops the lowest grade. 3 tests are 75% and the final is 25%. Show up to almost every class, do the homework, pay attention, and you'll be fine
Very Helpful and a Great Teacher. He's very good at explaining things and makes Calculus very interesting. He's very nice, but not too nice to let people get away with stupid stuff.
Great Professor, drops lowest exam grade, and is fair, exam questions are almost identical to examples he goes through in class, so attend, its all good he is not a bore either (very funny man)
Great teacher, couldn't get through algebra. Once I took his class, getting the best math grades I've ever got. If you actually bother to take class time after his lecture to do homework, he can break down any problem until you get it.
Professor Scanlon is one of the best teachers I have ever had! He presents the information clearly his tests are fair and he is very helpful. I loved his class.
good teacher i took the class before so i wasn't really learning much but i did learn a few new things. overall he helped the class and was a good teacher
Really nice guy, gives 3 tests, drops lowest score and a cumulative final (65% + 35%) thats it! No participation grade. Tests are extremely hard! My class had a 56 avg on the 3rd test (2 ppl had 100's). Does not show you anything on the calculator at all! Very smart guy knows his stuff but grading is difficult.
He is on the most helpful teachers I have ever had. If you do your work and study you should do just fine.
Professor Scanlon is one of the best teachers I have ever had! He presents the information clearly his tests are fair and he is very helpful. I loved his class.
he is coolest professor ever!! I loved him so much!! I wish middlesex county college have more professors like him!!!!!
She is great, she works with you and understands each persons needs. She will work well and help you as much as needed.
best professor ever! extremely helpful, fun, hilarious, helps you no matter what. very caring about his students, give you many chances.
Highly recommended. If you study you get a good grade. Very friendly.
Dr. Scanlon is one of the best teachers that you’ll ever meet anywhere; a quality professor who’s got class and clarity. Take him if you are going for upper level math classes and you will get a solid foundation that will carry you through the rest of your math classes, and ten million proofs in the process.
Very hard to understand and pass the course. I studied so much and still failed. Know his stuff but doesnt know how to explain well. Tests 3(drops 1 lowest grade) and cumulative final are EXTREMELY HARD! Wouldnt take him again because he failed someone who tried!
Took calc3, pretty much straight out of the book but helpful during class with lots of good examples. Do the HW's and you get an A because his exam questions are exactly the HW questions. VERY helpful after class and during office hours. Very friendly guy. Go to class, do homework, study, and you should do well. No ti-89 though, cheat sheet tests
Very Good teacher. He explains everything to the point and if you are unsure he definitely helps you. Even though you do not have to go to class, it is a good choice to actually go because he gives homework that is not mandatory but most of it is on the test. He is always there for his office hours and explains things in detail for you to understan
Great teacher, puts it in a way that you really get it.
great teacher!!! works from the book very helpful if you have questions
Gr8 professor!!!! I took him for calc 3 and he was awesome!! He has 3 tests and drops the lowest grade...his tests can be hard at times though...but he's great!!!!
BEST TEACHER EVER EVER IN THE WROLD . HE IS A GR8 PROFESSOR VERY VERY HELPFULL. DO HIS HOMEWORKS NOT BECAUSE HE CHEKSIT BUT U GET EXACT QUESTIONS IN HIS XAM BST TEACHER
Great professor, had him last semester for Calc. Very fair, his tests are not the easiest thing in the world, however, he is very fair and teaches very well. He answers any questions the students may have and his jokes/stories also make the class interesting. Great professor, however you definitely need to work hard to earn an A in the class.
Prof. Scanlon is just a great professor. Make sure you do his homeworks and understand them and you have A guaranteed. He is very helpful if you need help. Teaches straight from the book and his tests are made from hw's. Drops lowest great. You will get a good great and you will learn a lot. He is A+
He is not good at all. His tests are crazy hard.Nothing like the problems he does in class. He gives attention to only those kids that do well. He failed me even though i tried my hardest. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
great professor ever born on this earth..who said he is hard..no he is very easy professor. he teaches very clear nd make u understand everythng.he open everyone's mind and put stuff in that.do his homework prob cuz u gona get exaccccccctly same questions on his tests.he curve frst n last tst, give extra credit stuf.i tok him for my cal1,2 and ll t
This man is THE math prophet! He explains everything with such simplicity and clarity that it makes your wonder why anyone thought math was ever hard. HIGHLY recommended. Had him for both Calc 1 and 2. AMAZING what you learn and how he breaks down physics concepts in a matter of minutes.
Great professor. Teaches the subject very well. The only drawback is that his tests are exceptionally hard. Doing your homework on daily basis is a must if you would like to pass the class with at least a C. Overall; he is the best math professor on campus.
Tests are hard, but all are based off of the homework assignments and his examples from the class. He is always willing to work out a problem if you ask him. Attend class ALWAYS, do ALL of the work and study like crazy for tests. I got no less than Bs on all his exams. He curves his exams. I used to hate math, but now I like it after this class.
The best prof I've had for calculus. Extremely helpful and very reasonable. If you can do the hw, you are more then prepared for the exams. Very fair, and highly recommended.
awsome proff; knows his stuff; no bull; very clear and detailed lectures; doesnt require attendance or hw but it's math so do it and you will pass. tests are NOT multiple choice and a lil hard.
great prof. teaches from the book, his tests are based on the hw. grades on a curve. explains hw and answers any question you ask him. fun teacher you can tell he loves math and makes you like math. if you study, ask questions when you don't understand do the HW you will pass.
I HATE MATH, but he is a great professor. He was able to make me understand everything clearly. He grades fairly and tries to give you as much credit as possible. Always willing to explain things to make sure you understand.
HARD TESTS!!! BUT CURVES IT.. STILL hard though. GOES really fast in class and you can barely keep up with him. GOOD LUCK
He is awesome! Took him for MAT131. Gives 3 tests and drops the lowest grade (65% of the total grade). Final is 35%. He does go a little fast towards the end of the semester. He explains everything. A must!
Excellent professor. Very clear and fair grader.
Great! Clear, mellow, helpful, and a sweet shag haircut.
The guy is the THE BEST. I wish I had known him when I took algebra and precalc. I took him for calc 1,2 and I registered for calc 3 with him. The kept telling me calc to is the hardest calc course.. not with SCANLON as a professor, I got B+ both classes and that's due to the fact I wasn't studying a lot. Must take if u want to learn calc.
Math is not my subject. He is very good at teaching it, very clear, does not mind going over things until you understand it. Class is always the same: New material, gives homework, goes over day before homework, extra help. Doesn't check the homework but all exam consisted of exact questions from homeworks. So you should do all of the homework.
He was a great teacher but I thought he was a lot harder than anyone else did!
Best teacher i eva had, really helpful. neva cheks ur homework but ill recommend u to do the homework coz all the test questions are usually from homework. he teaches u how to climb the tree he dosn't use the leader to get to the top. goes over homework almost everyday. very mild, mealow, nice and hard worker...
Lectures are taken exactly from the book. All of his notes go page for page. Exams consist of homework problems which he gives solutions for. No reason to not get an A really. Good teacher, nice guy. If you really want to be challenge, don't take him. If you need an easy A, (easy as in easy A for calc 3), then take him.
he was a nice guy and teaching was clear but made his tests different from the teaching and a bit unclear not an easy professor to take he gives his tests from the hw n expects you to memorize every hw problem for the final no study guide or anything like that
Professor Scanlon is an excellent teacher. He covered the necessary material, but was slightly rushed towards the end of the term. The hourly exams are based off of homework questions. However, the final exam is not. His course is extremely reasonable, and there is no reason why any student should not receive a good grade if the effort is put in.
Prof Scanlon is an excellent teacher. He is extremely nice and helpful with the work. Tests come straight out of the HW and problems he does in class. I don't think he ever took attendance, but for Calc it's pretty necessary that you be there. Highly recommended.
He is the best Math professor I have ever had! This guy is really good!! he is very helpful and he will explain something to you until you get it. He also has a good personality.
He is a great professor, just do the homework and the examples he does in class. His tests are based on those. Do those and you will be fine. Great teacher, highly recommended.
Best professor I ever had. Very helpful, and teaches very well. He's such a nice guys and has funny stories as well. Didn't use the book in class, just to do homework problems. You want to do your homework, test problems are directly from it. Scales and gives extra credit for those that need it. Don't miss a day in Calc or above, you'll miss a lot.
Definitely recommend Professor Scanlon! He is very clear and explains everything step by step! If you paid attention, take good notes and do the hw you are guaranteed to get a good grade. Plus he bases the exam on hw and problems done in class. As a bonus, he has a great easy going personality. Hard to hate him he is just so nice! Thanks Professor!
Great Professor. Try to get, in his class. You will learn and get good grades. The best Math professor I have ever got.
He helps you a lot. Very kind and respectful towards his students. Gives no surprises!! Study questions in his notes and the homework problems he assigns because tests come from them. However, you may tend to sleep in his class because he is so soft spoken... Last thing: Failing his class is a SCANDAL! Honestly!!
Professor Scanlon teaches very well n easy to understand. He is the best math teacher i ve ever had. Take him is a must!!!!!
LOVE HIM, great teacher. thought bombed the final got an 85. Really good class, really nice guy. really easy to understand. took his class at 730pm, best choice ive made. he usually teaches late in the day but its worth it.
Low Scanlon. Great teacher. Tests aren't the easiest but not impossible. He's really funny. Know ur last few chapters bc it's majority of the final. I really liked him. He's a good guy
One of the best teachers i have ever had.
Great professor.
Excellent professor who is every bit passionate about Mathematics as much about teaching. Math majors should definitely take his class since he is big on theorems, conjectures and proofs. Non math majors will greatly benefit as well. Very compassionate and gentle towards his students. Am blessed to have him as my professor.
This guy is super genius, extremely intelligent. 4 Tests are based off problems in class & hw,drops one test grade. Calc sucks but he makes it seem very easy. Stops class for a little joke every now & then. Definitely recommend him
His lecture is clear and organized; he will go over any homework or class problem when asked. Grades are strictly exam-based, but he is a fair grader and gives partial credit. He is very soft-spoken, so keep in mind if taking him very early or very late in the day.
good teacher but goes a little fast with trying to explain. Attendance and homework are not required. Your only grades are your exam grades. Know your trig!! There will always be a trig question on your exam. Also know that your exams are hand written by the teacher not typed! Your lowest exam grade is dropped and your final is not required
he's pretty good. Some of his tests are easy but some are hard. You must do homework. Fair but not free.
Good professor, gives you study sheets and homework assignments to help you on the test. He is helpful and easy going and approachable. Tests come right from the study guides and homework. Please actually study and you will get a high grade. I made the mistake of not studying and got a low grade but still passed.
Professor Scanlon is a mathematical genius. His lectures are the best I have ever experienced. He always starts the class on time. He usually tells a story or joke at the perfect time to keep the class interested. He is the perfect balance of serious and funny. The exams are fair. Overall I am extremely grateful that he taught me calculus I.
I took him in the late afternoon and was my latest class so it was kind of boring. but overall he was a good teacher, and he works with you if you need help. he gives a review day before test day so you could ask him questions or with your class members the textbook is not mandatory at all, didn't get it and passed
Hands down the best calc professor. He was gone for 2 weeks (bc his wife was sick) & had a substitute prof who was terrible. To make up for it he gave us a take home test & made the final not cumulative. He also made our highest test score 40% of our grade, the 2nd highest 35%, 3rd highest 25% and lowest dropped. Take him. You won't regret it.
Finish all his homework he gave us in class, although it is optional. It is very helpful for the test, once you finished all his homework he assigned, you will find the tests are easy. People struggle if they only studied for the notes he gave in class without practice. So i would recommend to get the textbook for practice.
His lectures are very interesting and his tests are somewhat manageable, but you need to know your trig because he will put them on every test. Very nice and intelligent prof who will help you but his materials are a lot. DON'T buy the book, never use it, ask your classmate to take a picture of it. optional hw that WILL help u out on the tests.
Best math professor I've had yet. His lectures are interesting and he has a great sense of humor. Expect homework from him, which he calls his gifts to students. Taking him again next semester.
Prof. Scanlon has to be by far the best Mathematics professor at MCC. His tests are easy, they're essentially HW problems. He drops the lowest test score. And he is very funny, so his lectures are not boring. I highly recommend him for any math course he teaches.
Just take him. Best math professor at MCC. You won't regret it.
Professor Scanlon is one of the most sincere, caring, knowledgeable professor you could take.
If you like multiple choice tests do not take this professor! he makes you really work for your grade. In class he talks to you like you're a child. AVOID HIS CLASS.
He's awesome. Even cracks jokes an tells little stories to break up the boriness of the math. (Cause math is boring. Theres no way around it) Extremely helpful always available at his office if you need extra help. But gives full detail on each lesson. Can sometimes get confusing.
Probably the best math professor. He is very easy. If you think he was tough and are complaining, you didn't study. I wish he taught calc 3.
Was a pleasure having Prof. Scanlon for Diff. Equations. His lectures were extremely clear. If you can follow along, ask questions if you don't understand something, then go home and try optional homework on your own, you will do great. His tests reflect optional homework packets so definitely benefits you. Take him you won't regret it
Professor Scanlon is an amazing math professor, especially for those who are taking pre calc in 2 parts because they most likely struggle a bit with math (hence that's why they're taking it in 2 parts). His teaching method is awesome; step by step, answers any question and doesn't make you feel stupid, and his exams are straight forward. Take him!
Amazing professor, got a easy A. do the hw and you will definitely pass.
Professor Scanlon is the best math professor I've had so far. He has a good style of teaching and makes the material relatively easy to understand. I wish I had him for every math class I had previously had to take at MCC. He is not an easy A; I would definitely recommend studying for every one of his tests. I also very much enjoyed his humor.
Professor Scanlon has a very clear and easy to understand teaching approach, but grades are not many. Homework was given every class but was optional and not graded. There were only 3 grades for the whole semester. You get the grade you work for in his class.
Do not take him. I took him for algebra 2 and I had the hardest time. First off, his voice will put you to sleep. He expects you to know the work already. Please don't take him if you want to pass. Only having 5 tests doesn't help, no extra credit and no HW grades. Doesn't care if you learn or not.
Best Professor at MCC!!! Would love to take him again for Math classes. Not too many tests n amazing lectures!!!
Hands down the best professor I've ever had at mcc! I took his calc 1 class and he would crack jokes and help when you don't understand certain concepts. He makes you work for your grade, do the hw! Nothing more to say but BEST PROFESSOR EVER. If you have a chance, take him!!
Has been my favorite professor at MCC! Passionate about his job, cares about his students, and is a great educator. If you pay attention in class and do your homework, you'll pass the class and you'll LEARN SO MUCH MATH!
I had this class as a Summer 1 Class as a 7 week course. We had the 3 tests worth 65% and the final being 35% of the final grade. Homework is given but not graded, during tests he allowed as a 4*6 cheat sheet. Scanlon was knowledgable and clear-cut with the subject matter and quite hilarious. Would take him again. Do not slack of on the homework!
Prof. Scanlon is a mathematics powerhouse ! I've had many math teachers in my life but none of them was as phenomenal at teaching and explaining concepts as he is. He gives plenty of Homework problems (ungraded with step by step solutions. Do these HW problems well and you should pass with flying colors. He's also Very funny. Must take good notes
Awessoome. The only professor in Mcc I'd eagerly wait to attend his class. If you pay attention in his class you don't even need to review. Notes are perfection. Lectures are never boring. Keeps the class lively. Math becomes fun with him. Wish he taught 206 and linear algebra. Excellent prof so just take him with no second thoughts in mind.
Good professor. Math is my worst subject so it was difficult for me, but I think he's a good professor. He assigns homework after going over a section of a chapter and he does't check the homework; the homework is just for you to help yourself and practice. He always asks if anyone had trouble with something from the homework.
Definitely the best math professor I've had. He really goes into detail on how to do problems, and is delighted to answer students' questions. The homework isn't mandatory, but is highly recommended you do it because the tests are based on it. He also drops the lowest test score (excluding the final exam).
Complicates everything w math terms & proofs & goes SO fast. grades on 4 tests and they are harder than in class & hw, no E.C. opp. Assigns hw but barely goes over. He'd rather you figure out the concepts on your own instead of just saying the concepts in english. office hours at 8 am for 45 min. NOT GOOD if u aren't great at math. DONT DO IT!!!
Very nice, makes math clear and easier to understand. Homework is optional (I didn't do it), but probably helps your grade go up a lot more. 4x6 index card for the final, and best 2 out of 3 test grades. Show up to class, or you won't know what's going on. Would definitely take again if I needed another math class.
Professor Scanlon is the best thing that happened to MCC. He is the best math professor I have has by far. He makes everything clear and understanding. Do your homeowrk and go to class, that simple. Ask for help when you need it; he appreciated students who actually care. Will be taking him for Calc 2.
Took him for Calc II. I didn't do any homework(doesn't grade them), just studied 2 days before every test and still got a B. However, he gives NO EXTRA CREDIT and NO REVIEW TESTS. You need to know how to do every problem on the test to do well. Most of his problems are similar to his examples, best 2 out of 3 test and the Final, 1 Flasgcard each.
Professor Scanlon is the best professor at MCC. You should take him no matter what. Amazing lectures, very straightforward, no tricks on tests. He will drop 1 lowest test score. You just do homework and study notes for the test. You will have fun.
the best math prof. I've ever had. I hate math in general but with prof. Scanlon I got A in calc1 and calc2. Just go over the homework and the notes from the class and u'll get A.
Very hard class. Refuses to give a review or a study guide. Be prepared to stay up all night to study for his exams and still get 60's on the exams
Professor Scanlon is a great guy and he's extremely smart. He has a great sense of humor and really tries to make the class enjoyable for his students. Unfortunately his downfall is that he just overcomplicates math and makes it much harder for his students for absolutely no reason. He also just lacks consideration for his students.
Hardest class you'll ever take. Class average on all the tests was 65 with a curve. No study guide, no extra credit, no consideration. Terrible professor.
Very very very good professor. Arguably one of the best professors I've ever had.
I had him for a winter class. Under the circumstances, with it being a 3-week course for a normal 14-week course, he tried his best. At times, he did overcomplicate and distract myself with stories unrelated to the task he was teaching. I would take him again during a normal semester term to see his differences without being under pressure.
Took Prof Scanlon for Calc 131 and currently taking him for calc 132. Amazing, respected, shows all work and cares for his students. Easy to contact by email. He is also very funny. Be prepared to pay attention, do the homework and copy all of his notes. Lets you use a notecard on each exam + final.
The best Math Professor at Middlesex County College. I have taken him for 3 courses consecutively and I will surely continue taking him. Makes Math very easy to understand. He also explains everything extremely well and makes very funny references and incorporates humor to his teaching.
Really kind, friendly, brilliant professor. Easy to understand. Respectful towards students, really likes his job. Easy on the homework assignments and very fair. He is very likeable. I highly recommend him, you will learn alot. I can not say one negative thing about this professor. If you can, take his class. Easy to understand and accessable.
Seriously the best math teacher at MCC. I am in calc 2 now and I still go to him during his office hours for help and I don't have him. If you can do the hw the test are easier. If you can't do the hw you are going to do poorly. He goes super slow and drops 1 test grade. The best at explaining math. I wish I took him for calc 2.
Scanlon is so caring about his students and is hilarious. Attendance doesn't matter. He assigned a normal amount of homework, if you do the homework you should be fine. He goes over homework before lecture, but only if you ask. so do it. A lot of test Q's are similar to HW Q's. Gives one or two extra credit question on exams! It helps! Take Him!
He befriends his students. Not to mention, he is extremely caring and knowledgeable. If you do your homework and read his notes properly, there is no way you cannot get a good grade. Makes the class lively by cracking a few jokes here and there. He has got an expertise in teaching.
Great professor! If you just show up to class and Pay attention it should be an easy A for you.
Professor Scanlon does everything to make sure that you understand the material such as assigning his homework to know how to do calc instead of just for a grade, in which he shows you how to do homework you struggled with. He also drops your lowest test.
Explains well and made the classes fun and interesting. Extra credit and he goes over the material before the quizzes and exams. Attend his classes do your homework and you should be just fine. I hated math till I found this professor. Definitely take his classes
Hands down the best professor at MCC and the best Math professor. He has such an amazing sense of humor, a great method of teaching, and assures that students understand the content in which he is teaching. As someone who despises math very deeply, he made it very easy to understand and enjoyable to come to class! Amazing professor
. 3 tests drop the lowest, 2 highest make up 65% of the grade, the final makes up the other 35%, however, you get to bring one full note card worth of notes. Test problems are exactly that of his lecture and homework, 12 questions usually. Enjoyable and entertaining lecture and more than willing to slow down to ensure you understand and also funny.
He gives very good lectures and explains material very well. The problems he covers in class are no where near as hard as the ones on the test. He makes test's incredibly difficult it's almost like he does not want you to pass. There is no review before test, he drops 1 of 3 test and there is a final. He doesn't really curve tests grades.
Pretty nice easy going guy. He's always nice to his students and explains calculus very well. I am bad at math but for some reason in his class I'm not that bad maybe because he teaches well. He cares for students and curves all tests.
Jumps straight to tests no review or quizzes. Otherwise good mathematics professor.
You are allowed to bring an index card for the exams and he drops the lowest grade. However, there is no review day or study guide for any of the exams. The only way you could study for this class is to go over the HW problems and notes in class. The exams are roughly around 8 - 12 problems. On the other hand, he is very nice and funny.
he's a great guy but his teaching style is hard to understand because he keeps on teaching but not actually has his students attempt any question in class to see where they exactly lack. Drops 1 test grade out of the 3 tests. Lets you use small cheat sheets in tests. No review at all.
Calculus 2 IS HARD. But if any professor will make you get it HE WILL. Beware though, ONLY grades exams and final. NO EXTRA CREDIT NO HOMEWORK GRADE so, if you use those to help your grade... keep that in mind. He is always there for office hours and willing to go step by step. So much effort and patience given. Do not walk... RUN to this professor
If math isn't your strongest subject then DO NOT take him. He only gives out tests, yes he does drop one test but it's not that helpful. He doesn't grade homework or give out extra credit or even a review to help you out. His tests are also way harder than the examples he gives and the homework. Avoid him
He is the best professor of the entire college. if you concentrate and attend his lectures then you're fine. He explains everything so clear and always ready to help students. He is very funny an I always look forward to attend his class. if you're someone who really want to learn math and enjoy doing math then he is the best professor for you ! :)
Give no quizzes, doesn't check homework. But will go over any HW problems at the end of lecture. He gives 3 exams and drops the lowest. 2 highest is 65% of your grade and the final is 35%. Do the homework and study the lecture examples and you will pass. He cares about his students. He also gives curves on the exams, if the class overall does bad.
calc 2 is not an easy subject you must put in work. but he does an amazing job teaching I would definitely suggest taking him. 3 exam and 1 final. out of 3 exams, he drops lowes one. if you want to get an A you have to show up takes notes then go home watch prof Lenord on youtube and go over notes that you took in class with prof Lenord video.
He is a very nice guy with great lecturing, yet this class was the hardest class that I have ever taken. The way this class is set up is very risky because you have a very small margin for error. 3 tests with one dropped for 66%, and a final worth 34%. He doesn't give reviews, just tells you to look over the homework. I would not do it again.
He is one of the most professors who knows what he is doing and giving to the students.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Coming from an english major, I can say that Professor Scanlon is highly influential by broadening different people's perspectives of Math, help them excel in their courses, and open up new pathways for students. Very caring person with a teaching style like no one I've seen before.
Has a clear grading criteria and an awesome teaching style. I'm not much of a math person but I enjoyed his classes a lot. Hw is not graded but the tests are based on hw problems. So do the hw and you'll ace the test. I recommend taking him for math!!
It's been 15 years since I have been to college and I have to say Professor Scanlon is by far my favorite professor. In no way is Calculus simple but if you apply yourself, he will make your experience great. He's very knowledgeable and his teaching style is unique. You can definitely tell he cares about his students and loves what he does.
Easiest calculus class so far! He gives us 3 tests (the lowest is dropped) and the final exam. He tells us what to read and study each week and doesn't give any trick questions. Provides lots of sources to study from and encourages you to find more for practice and/or better understanding. I'd say his class is an easy A :)
Took an online class with Scanlon, and there wasn't any actual class. He just posted what chapters to read each week. There were no recorded lectures, no class notes. I could have read a Calculus 3 book on my own time and learned the same amount.
Best professor I've ever in my life.
Dr. Scanlan is a good professor. I like the way this online class was set up because everything was open form the beginning and could be done at your pace. Everything was set as due at the very end of the semester. The final was hard, cumulative and a lot of questions. It was pretty confusing. I learned a lot.
Nice teacher overall, and with the online classes due to covid, he has nice set up of class. There is no meeting or actual lecture but he is available to meet (virtually) to help you out. Be prepared to take three tough exams, by really staying on top of the study layouts he gives, as well as going in the textbook, otherwise you will fall behind.
He returned tests back quickly and with good feedback. But 3 tests are the only grades in this class.
The professor is available for help. He has a weekly schedule of items you need to read, if you do the homework (optional) it will help a lot for tests. You have a couple of days to complete your tests. He takes the average of 3 tests and that is your grade if you want or he can average in the final exam, your choice.
Prof. Scanlon is the best math professor I ever had. I actually enjoyed calculus. His classes are very interesting, you can see that he enjoys teaching math and this is his calling.
University-level and top-notch mathematics lectures with comprehensive notes. The focus shifts from computation to mathematical rigor. This class was my first introduction to mathematical proofs and I was completely enamored by them. He is also hilarious and amuses the class with his math memes. Highly recommended!
He is a really lovely Professor. I would definitely take him again !
What is the bare minimum a teacher can do and still teach? Now lower that bar. If you don't mind being self taught then this class is fine. A lot of the work can be done using Khan academy, YouTube and the book, but be prepared to get creative on how you find the right answers. Good thing math is systemic and repetitive.
Top 5 professors of all time. Great guy and an even better professor. Very lenient with grading and is a professor that is always there to help you out. He's on your side.
One of the best professors ever. Just go to the class everyday/ take notes and review them guaranteed A. May not be the best professor ever for you all but the best math professor you will find among other math professors.
He's very caring about his students and is more than happy to go back to previous topics if you need clarification. Explanations are easy to follow along with and there's optional hw if you need practice. Highly recommend taking him even if you're not too great at math because you will definitely learn a lot. Hes also very funny so that's a plus :)
An amazing Professor, however he only grades test so beware of that. 3 exams and 1 final and if you do good on all three tests, he will exempt you from the final exam.
He is the best professor of this college. She will not take any exams just open book quizzes every week. He will also drop lower test scores. And at the end of the semester he will take extra credit quiz. Very easy and very good in teaching professor.
One of the best Professors at the college if you can take one of his classes do it. His lectures are great and he does a fantastic job explaining the topics and it is easy to understand and follow. He also likes to joke and tell funny stories from time to time so it keeps the lectures interesting. A great math professor I would recommend to anyone.
Such an easy class, easy A. All tests were online, pdfs, so easy. Just send them a picture of your tests every like 2-3 weeks, which takes like 30 minutes to do. Easy A.
Prof. Scanlon is one of the best mathematics professors! He doesn't have midterms or finals; instead, he takes weekly quizzes, and the quizzes are NOT cumulative. Pay attention in class, and it's an easy A!
Very petty guy, will ruin your grade over a simple mistake.
Professor Scanlon was a very dry math teacher.
makes calc simpler and is a fun guy. take him .
Take him! He's truly passionate in what he does as he wants everyone to do well. His quizzes were open notes extremely easy, I never studied since I already took a class like this and had to retake it here. Weekly quizzes, no finals or midterms. I had alot of fun taking this class, I never got bored in his lectures he teaches you how to think.
I took class with him in fall 2024, he is very caring and good professor overall, explains really well, YOU MUST ATTEND ALL THE CLASSES OR YOU WON'T PASS, no finals or midterms, he does weekly quizzes.
