Prof. Schilf is fair, clear, and well organized. His lectures are easy to follow and, as long as you pay attention he gives you everything you need for the exams.Take this class sooner than later. It will help you write papers and essays in other classes.

I learned so much in this class. He is very helpful and clear. I dreaded the topics in this class but I am glad I took it now.

He is a very good teacher. He is young and relates more to the students. No bs homework, just essays throughout course, which he basically outlines for you. Minimal amount of reading. I highly recommend him if anyone is an English major! He's da bomb

Easily, he's the best teacher. First off, he really teaches. Second off, he really reads your papers and comments to help you w/ your mistakes. I had him for summer and he made the best of it cause he's soo hot.

He is great. he talks about the essay topic for 2 or 3 weeks, gives you every single thing needed to write about on essay in order to get an A. if you are good in grammer, you should not worry about anything else.

interesting class and great teacher. he gives you all the materials you need so you don't need to look for extra info (unless you want to). helpful in improving your writing, and makes you really think about the topic. very easy to contact too. hey, if you easily get bored, he's eye candy LoL

OK!!! If yr the type of person that just want's to get over with English then dont take him. IF yr the type of person that isn't a good argumentive writer dont take him. Believe me having 3 essays to write a research and a final in order to pass the class is alot of presure take someone else.

WOw, this guy is the BEST! If you want the easy A dont take him. if you want to improve & right great papers form now on to benefit you in future college courses, then TAKE HIM. This class has three essay that are based on his choice of topic and an in class final based on a novel (great book). It is not a difficult class but than again for those who do not know how to write a good paper dont expect for it to be easy. He is straight out on what he wants and expects in his class. Class is not boring i listened and learned.

Schilf has great enthusiasm. I worked for my "A," but it was worth it. I learned a lot and recommend him to anyone who is not lazy. He is a fair grader and clearly answers questions.

Mr. Schilf was the best teacher I have had all through college. He was honest and helpful. When our work wasn't that great, he found a way to help us make it better. I learned more from him than anyone at that damn school. You rock Mr. Schilf!

i started GCC at the 2nd level of ESL and aced this course. Anyone who complains about him should drop outta college and think of working @ a gas station. HE IS THE BEST. take his class if you want to learn something. Very helpful. go to his office and he will help you A LOT. BTW he is VERY HANDSOME!

Oh wow! I had Mr. Schilf's class at 6:00 in the morning and he is absolutely amazing! He is extremely intellectual and by far the most interesting and intelligent man I have come across too. Don't take him if you're looking for an easy A but if you're willing to work hard it'll definetely benefit you in the long run! The best!!!

He is very interesting and smart, but really hard grader. He makes English harder than it really is. I studied a lot, but finally got a B anyways. Hes not the worst, but take another professor if its possible. Not a lot of reading. Good luck.

Mr. Schilf is an excellent professor. He challenges his students and really helps them mature in their writing skills. His discussions are very intreasting. Plus he is easy on the eye =) I highly recommend him you won't be dissapointed!

He may seem to come off a bit harsh at first with his analysis on assignments, but everything he says is the truth. If you can't take consrtuctive criticsm then forget it. He wants the student to succeed and is always available for questions. He is very 'real' so if you are one of those 'it's all about me', types, then you won't get it.

You will learn a lot in this class! My first essay, I got a C/D, & I am an A student. He teaches you how to write great structured papers. Basically, just do the research for the arguments and follow his formula...he is not vague. He also likes to see your work improve. One of the hardest A's I've earned in my 4 yrs at college, but it was worth it.

One of the greatest English professors! You have to earn your grade but you truly learn a lot in his class.

Very straight forward and fair. He knows what he want on essays and grades them hard but once you figure out his style you should be fine. A's are nearly impossible on essays, but you easily can get points back from extra credit and quizzes (crucial). Overall if you do your end of the work you'll be fine. Go to his office hours!

If you love English you will love the class, if you hate English you will still love the class. He is honestly the most amazing professor I ever had at GCC. He is nice, caring, helpful and answers all questions. Take any class he teaches, you will not regret it. Don't buy the anthology, all short stories and poems can be found online.

Had him last year for fall. Don't know what some people are talking about. This is a college course after all. Yes, he is a tough grader, but don't be afraid & ask for help. Read the books, rewrite your essays until you get the grade you want. A good grade takes hard work. The grade depends on you & not the prof.

I don't understand the negative comments AT ALL. I genuinely enjoyed attending and the workload wasn't much, just short reading assignments and 4 or 5 essays. It's much more than just an English class; Professor Schilf really opens up your eyes to the world and raises thought-provoking topics. Really great class, really great professor. Take it.

Professor Schilf is the best English professor I have had so far; he is very clear with what he expects from his students, and as long as you follow his guidelines you will get an A. Although he is a tough grader, he is funny and his lectures are very captivating. I enjoyed taking his class and highly recommend it!

Prof. Schilf was a great English professor, and I would highly recommend him to anyone I know. He is not an easy grader, but he is fair and straightforward so you know what to expect from him. He also makes himself available to any student who may need extra help during his office hours.

Looks like Brad Pitt's twin brother. Excellent teacher, although he tends to swerve off topic and insult christianity, which ticked me off, but other than that he's really great!

Okay, this class is the furthest thing from an easy A, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. Instead of using + or -, he'll use in-betweeners (AB, BC, CD, etc) for grades. You really have to work for a good grade. Sometimes, it'll feel like nothing will ever please him, but it's all just constructive criticism. Overall, a great & invested prof.

He doesn't teach an easy A class so if that what you're looking for this is not your guy, however he is by far the best professor I had at Glendale Comminity College. I loved his English 102 class lectures so I took him again for English 112 which was even better! I wish I could come back to GCC just so I could take him for advanced screenwriting.

Prof. Schilf is AMAZING! He is hilarious, keeps the lectures fun. He is an extremely tough grader. i never got higher than a C on his essays. He explains what he wants from you. Hes more than willing to help IF you go to him. show up for the classes, you do A LOT of in class group workshops about your essays. overall, one of my favorite teachers.

I love Mr. Schilf. He is my favorite professor I've EVER had. It also helps that he's gorgeous but that's not important. He tells you exactly what he wants and if you go to his office hours, he'll loo over your assignment and tell you exactly what to do to get an A. I got a perfect grade in his class. He's great.

My favorite English teacher ever!! Mr. Schilf is a very thoughtful, intellectual person. He really helped me improve my writing and so many of his lectures resonated with me. He is a tough grader and you do have to read, participate, and write a few essays, but it's not too difficult. I really pushed myself to get an A in his class and it payed off

I'm taking Professor Schilf right now and all I can say is that he is an amazing instructor. On the first day of class he scared me so much because he was talking about what hes looking for but I stuck with him. I was so wrong to be scared. He does not demand much and whatever he is looking for is pretty doable. 100% recommend. You wont regret it.

FAVORITE ENGLISH PROFESSOR EVER! At first he seems scary due to what he expects for students. However, his readings for quizzes are interesting, and if you follow the prompts to how to do his essays, EASY A! For his final he gives you the prompt days before and then you can just work on it in class!

He honestly is not a bad professor.. he just wants all his students to go beyond what they think they can do. He will help you out with any problems you have regarding the class. If you do not put in any effort in the class and fail the quizzes you will end up failing the class. Just study and take the advice he puts on your essay.

Professor Schilf may come off as unapproachable and intimidating at first but dont be fooled. He does grade very hard and expects the best out of you. Thats one of the ways he helped me become a better writer. Hes very friendly and caring. Hes an all around great professor. If you want an easy A, dont take any of his classes.

I myself am not a good writer but Professor Schilf brings out the best in you. A few quizzes on a book, like four essays, but he expects an outline before which makes the writing part 10x easier and I ended up with an A. Really recommend Professor Schilf just put in your part and you should be fine.

Good professor! Prof. Schilf is very kind and willing to help. The class itself was just your average English class. Nothing especially hard, but you will be required to submit multiple detailed outlines and essays as well as a research project. The grading is very clear and overall a pleasant class!

His lectures are amazing like you their so unique one thing I enjoyed from the class. Hes a tuff grader tho not ur typical Grader tells u he grades as a girl,boy and its true but he helps a lot of you email him and gives good feedback. I respect Michael Schilf a lot. I took him spring 2019. I got perfect scores in every essay and outlines. Going to his office hours really helps a lot. He isn't afraid to sensor himself in lecture. His grading criteria is easy and it's simple too. As long as you pay attention, you can get an A in the class. I highly recommend his 104 english class!

Prof Schilf is a great professor. You definitely need to pay attention to his lectures to succeed in the class. I took him for Winter and it was certainly intense, lots of reading and lots of writing, but stay true to the criteria and you will excel in his class. This class was pretty fun, just be ready to put in the work.

I enjoyed his 101 class! It was my first class in many years. He believes many professors will pass students who are not ready, so be prepared for tough grading. He will not offer help, but he wants you to ask you ask for it. Don't be afraid to ask, he likes it and wishes more students would do so. He's tough, but he helped me be a better writer.

I cant understand how people give him low ratings for his 101, 104 classes. I took 101 in Fall 2019, and 104 in Spring 2020, got As on both and enjoyed the class. If you actually pay attention during his lessons and put effort, you will see how well you will do. Even to this day I use what I learned from him when I write essays in other classes.

Schilf is an amazing&kind professor. I heard bad things about him, so I was nervous to take his class. Honestly, I think the people who are giving him bad reviews have a hard time with criticism. It's tough to be critiqued, but that is the point of a class- to help you learn! His feedback is tremendously helpful, and you will leave a better writer!

Amazing Professor. Although he does not give any extensions, he gives you enough time to complete your assignments. Every assignment was very clear and straight-forward and he always gave great feedback to help me improve. 100% recommend him!!

Professor Schilf is awesome! His class seems a bit tricky at first, but he's actually super clear and easy to understand. The video lectures are unique and really make you remember stuff even after the course ends. Plus, there are loads of extra credit chances and some heavy reading involved.

By far the most lenient and caring professor I've had. He does assign a decent amount of work every week, if you actually try there is no way you'll fail. Very understanding and helpful as well. His grading isn't too strict either, just have the correct format, he doesn't pick apart your essays and give you a hard time.
